I have!

Most prominently, I have written three reader-inserts for Melody Pond until now, one featuring River/Reader, one Mels/Reader and one both. And in each the reader is very much not the Doctor but human.

But if we are only saying actual characters from the show, then I have only written fics where River was romantically involved with people additionally to the Doctor, but River/Doctor has always been a part of it.

There are The Husbands of River Song and Somewhere in My Memory which are both taking place in the same universe and have as a main ship River/Ruth/Lee Clayton. So that is kinda without the Doctor, at least for The Husbands of River Song, but they still get mentioned a lot.

And then there is my dancing with the stars AU Dancing with the Doctor which has River/Jack as one of the main ships. But the parts that touch on that have not been published yet and when I wrote the published part, I wasn't sure yet that I wanted them to be romantic, so - it exists on my computer.

Also, I am currently working on a 'River turns into a cat' AU and well. She's still trapped inside a cat so for now the only ship is thasmin. But once she's out of that body this will definitely feature River/Yaz, too.

Exactly one and it's long and in German. It's called Mary Shelley's Murder Mystery Invite Only Casual Travel/Journey For Friends Diary (because of course it is) and it is basically Mary and Emily enjoying their new afterlife touring Europe and meeting other famous authors (and musicians). And then suddenly, plot happens and Emily gets abducted and Mary has to save her.

It's really fun. I mean, it flows super weirdly because for the first 70% nothing happens and it's pure fluff and then suddenly everything happens and it's super tense. But both parts were so much fun to write!

may 2024 watched list: recap & review✨

legends of tomorrow (2016) | dead boy detectives (2024) | baby reindeer (2024) | senior year (2022)

1. dc's legends of tomorrow (2016)

— status: dropped after season 1

— rating: 3/10

• for this show, CW bands together the least-relevant characters from arrowverse and puts them on a flying time-ship on a quest to stop vandal savage

• the show is simply bloated with too many characters for viewers to care about (eight main characters), and the show tries to explore all of these characters' backstories as well as their current budding dynamics within the new team

• there isn't enough breathing room for anything. moments that should've been "big" were rushed through, and we are expected to care about literally anything that happens in the show (i didn't)

• for example, there's a whole subplot of ray & hawkgirl's struggle to readjust to the Legends' lifestyle after spending 2 years of domestic life together. but we barely see any of this "normal" life, and we don't care.

• overall, it's a show of pointless shit going on and cumulates to [SPOILER] snart's death for some reason at the end. character deaths can be useful to a story, but this one just felt completely unnecessary. they also killed off one of their more interesting characters and better actors.

2. dead boy detectives (2024)

— status: completed, waiting for season 2

— rating: 10/10

• edwin & charles are ghost detectives, who find themselves trapped in a new town, fighting off new and curious adversaries, after a case with a living medium brings them there.

• absolutely fantastic worldbuilding — from minor details like mirror hopping and talking cats, to the major parts like the afterlife's structure, trapped ghosts, and demons

• refreshing take on growing and evolving relationships. on finding yourself, and learning new things about yourself.

• overall, also a very fun watch that has very high rewatchability. it's the gift that keeps on giving — the more you watch it, the more you notice little details and easter eggs carefully planted by the showrunners

• the directing is also a masterpiece: from the beautiful camera shots, use of music and sound, to the jump cuts to text on-screen.

3. baby reindeer (2024)

— status: completed, waiting for season 2

— rating: 10/10

• donny's small act of kindness invites a years-long ordeal of brtual harassment and stalking. as he struggles to resolve this crisis, his past trauma rises in the periphery to exacerbate the situation

• brilliant, raw, and bold. richard gadd (creator & star of the show) really shows the bleak reality of how abuse-begets-abuse. how patterns of maladaptive coping repeat themselves, and how people exist in the moral gray.

• the show doesn't hold back on showing you the ugly. as foul as the other characters are, you also see how donny's own insecurities and struggles with his mental health creates a vicious self-trapping spiral.

• pacing is incredible. you truly can NOT look away at all.

4. senior year (2022)

— status: completed, but not without skipping throughout

— rating: dog shit /10

• rebel wilson's cheerleader character gets into an accident and wakes up 20 years later, determined to win prom queen in highschool

• very cringey, and uncompelling. you might have to be braindead to enjoy this

• the side characters are so much better than the main character, but they barely get any screen time or development. joshua colley absolutely slayed as yaz

• the main character is an absolute asshole, who you can't seem to give a shit about or empathise with the whole show

G:L Season 2 Episode 2 Re(Cap/View)

Better than the premiere. Not gonna waste time:

Dri and Roberta

I loved their plot but the slap was a bit much. Dri is great in this episode, and she's pointing out the obvious flaws in her mother's philosophy. Lines like "He's fighting them" just hold so much weight to me. I'm not exactly sure why.

Roberta has a very believable quality to her faith, they all do. She embodies a very common (and annoying) parenting sentiment: The "I'm the parent so my beliefs are ultimately most important" Clause, and its corollary "Fine. You don't have to believe me but here's a ridiculous ultimatum that will either force you under my heel or irreparably alienate us to one another." I think alot of religions play into such a binary system, and I think the Union is most fun when it is finding the commonalities between how religions present higher powers.

Brother Tate

OMG thank God he actually believes in what he's saying. I don't think I could take it if "The Flow" had no merit to it at all. I'm sick of stories that present the "religious option" as just crazy people. Now is it a death cult? Yea, kinda. But there's no self-serving motives. Unlike the Polity, who is legit just making things up, the Union actually thinks they are humanity's salvation. The truth in that is....well it's unclear. And I appreciate that the show doesn't jump directly to the villainization of the Omnifaith.

Chase

Thematically Chase being the cornerstone of the Union is SO good. Julius Caesar, Jesus, I mean Brother Tate's speech at the end perfectly summed it up. Chase's idea of heroism is filtered through his suffering, and the horrifying revelation is that without death, there is always more of himself to lose. The truest of horrors of war stories.

However Chase lacked the emotional depth he needed in this episode. MBJ does a phenomenal job voice acting him for the most part, he shows a remarkable amount of emotion. But the way the show implements it feels uncanny somehow. I can't exactly describe it but the editing is off.

Yaz

I find it very gripping how the Union converts her through breaking her. It's honestly kinda sucky that the nature of the Union -- and many (especially Abrahamic) religions, too -- presents itself as the one and only option. It's such a morbid and cynical servitude. No one is actually concerned about convincing her, they just keep guilting her until submission. And when she finally gives up? The flow keeps her alive? I don't quite know. But yea this recontextualizes alot of her behavior in Season 1 in a positive way (narratively speaking of course. I don't feel good about it).

I don't think the show is in a place to explore this, but I appreciate the irony in the "you have no proof of the afterlife" line from a person of (presumably) Muslim faith. It may have been an oversight, but it's one I feel is thematically appropriate.

(I think it would have been more interesting if she did believe in the Omnifaith itself, but not as literally as the suicide pact demanded by it's organized religion. But I digress.)

Polity

Nice save on Marin, there guys lol. It's too late, I already think she's a bad guy.

I think one thing that makes this show so viscerally unsettling sometimes is its sheer willingness to connect itself to modern day Earth. When I heard that the Polity was a rebranded (and equally useless) UN I legitimately buffered for a moment. How horrifying. How likely. It's almost as if G:L the show itself is prophetic of what is to come. Speculative fiction at this point is just a reality that hasn't happened yet. And from that standpoint, I'm with Chase. I'm scared.

TLDR: The Union is some AMAZING world building. This G:L crew is truly making the best of this mess of a production that they can, and I appreciate that.

Final Score: 7/10

oof. i mean, i’ll pretend this is a hard question, but daisy. hands down. i mean, not only is she gorgeous, she’s really unconventionally smart, super powerful, and full of longing to have a family.

um. i mean, if we’re talking about davies!who, i don’t really... have a least favorite character? i love them all a lot, and they’re all super nuanced and it’s just... really wonderful

the inkeepers. it’s hands down the funniest episode in the whole show.

HA. huh. uh. four-ish years, i think? yeah. it was around the time that i discovered queen, and i would play bohemian rhapsody on repeat as i read fanfic (which means that now, sometimes, i hear a certain queen song and am hit with a very strong, very specific urge to read 10rose fic for the next 72 hours.)

my mom made me watch it at first, and i was hooked by the first episode. it’s just... so smart, and so fast, and i love it very much.

Ok so is this a 2 part finale or another stand-alone before the finale?

Dad was asking what they do about food and clothing when traveling on the TARDIS, now Graham’s talking about his cheese and pickle sandwiches. Oh she’s blind. OK. No reflection. Ok. Alternate dimensions? At least she’s holding on to the other side instead of stepping all the way into the portal.

Oh ok good, I googled it, the actress is actually blind. I had a feeling she was, but then I was like but maybe she’s just a very good actress who can fake it... but good she wasn’t faking.

This lantern guy almost looks familiar... “Payment on delivery. And leave the knife here.” Smart. Flesh moths... cool...

Yaz: What if you did something it hasn’t dealt with before? Reversed the polarity or something? Doctor:

Literally, reversing the polarity is the most Doctor thing ever. That’s literally the key to the Doctor’s heart. Ok, so everyone just has to make it angry. Ohhh... pure white... we saw promos for this scene right? Hmm... Animatronic frog. Just like Old Who. WHY DOES THIS ALMOST SEEM LIKE WHITTAKER SAYING BYE IN GENERAL. Yep, we’d seen her blowing the kiss before. Oh god walls closing in no me gusta. Yeah dude, read the writing on the ceiling and feel guilty that they thought you were dead. IS GRAHAM GONNA ASK TO STAY IN NORWAY? “I see the sheep have moved on. Probably off plotting.” Amazing. HE CALLED HIM GRANDDAD. AWWWW. We have a grandfather and his grandchild in the TARDIS. Just like the Doctor and Susan.

I liked that episode. The frog was weird. Hoping it was a throwback to Old Who. I was so happy to see Nanna Grace again. For the minute or so of happiness before it was revealed to be a trap. But Ryan and Graham had a nice moment. And a conscious universe is something new. A conscious universe taking the form of a frog puppet.

 “I can’t remember my name.” OH MY GOD - wait no. I’m dumb. I forgot it was “I don’t know where I am” in Season 7. Never mind. Thought there was a connection there.

Looks like it’s not a 2 part finale. I’m excited to see if the finale is stand alone or if it’s a culmination of everything so far. Chibnall said the season would not have a ongoing theme like past themes. I’m not sure I believe that.
