I love being a drink gremlin. Brought three whole drinks to my campus today, iced coffee, big ol water bottle, and a fuckin root beer for lunch lol. Been here for two hours and I've got one drink down already, seven more hours to go.
Was this amount of drink to bring a little silly? Yes.
But it makes me happy for a short amount of time.

Five Star Reads from 2023:
The Georgina Kincaid Series by Richelle Mead
Urban Fantasy.
A Succubus who works in a bookshop (!) falls in love with her favourite author. But she can't be with him because even kissing him sucks the life force out of him. Honestly, I feel like you will LIVE for the connection between the two of them and the heat and all the almost moments, it's beautiful.
The Deep by Nick Cutter
Horror.
A plague called the 'Gets has claimed the world and a man receives a message from his brother who is researching a potential cure in an underwater research lab in the Mariana Trench. Heavy on body horror (this author has a thing about bugs I swear to god) but really atmospheric and I cried oh my gosh.
Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado
Short story collection.
This was so good I immediately bought her other book after reading this. A mix of urban legends and campfire stories all wrapped up with human sexuality and women's autonomy and it's just beautifully written.
Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica
Horror/Dystopian.
A futuristic world where a virus has made all animal meat toxic. As a result, some humans have started to be bred as 'heads' for consumption. The main character works at an abattoir and is gifted a female 'head'. It's really fucked up and gory and at some points really touching and I did not see the ending coming.
My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell
Literary Fiction
A woman is approached by a journalist writing an expose on her former English teacher who's been accused of assaulting a former student and heard she was treated the same way. Only problem is, the MC believes it wasn't assault; it was love.
A really interesting look at trauma and coming to terms with the reality of your past and while it shows aspects of the relationship it isn't overly explicit or romanticizing in regards to the sexual aspect.
A Certain Hunger by Chelsea G. Summers
Literary Fiction/Horror.
The story of a food critic who kills and eats her male lovers. Funny and clever and the main character is fucked up in such an entertaining way. It was just a super fun read for me and I don't know why I love cannibalism stories so much as a vegetarian.
Boy Parts by Eliza Clark
Literary Fiction/Horror.
A fetish photographer is offered an exhibition at a gallery, offering her an escape from her habitual use of drugs and booze. She becomes more self-destructive as she works on it, centered around her obsessive best friend and a shy man from her supermarket.
The Haar by David Sodergren
Horror.
An elderly woman's small home town is being bought out to be torn down and turned into a golf course. One day she finds a strange creature on the beach, and it repays her kindness in unexpected ways.
Happy reading, my love!
Thank you my love! I have added a good few onto my list!
Also, yay for Georgina Kincaid because I adore that series but haven't reread it in a while and definitely need to. It's the pining you know? The desperation and the ingenius ways that Seth comes up with for them to be together and then as the series goes on all the drama ahhhh yeah I love that series and think that Carter might be one of my favourite background characters ever?
