Yasova Dragonclaw

she tames animals and made peace with atarka just by feeding her a mammoth carcass.

Happy birthday to Yasova Dragonclaw (FRF), who's turning 9 years old today! I loved the wedge hybrid cards they did in this set.

MtG Month of the Ship Day 22 - Wild West
(Not sure if this is wild west enough. Thoughts on the matter are welcome ;) )
“Sheriff! Sheriff!”
Yasova heard the shout, clear and urgent, all the way from her desk in the back room of the county office. As a younger woman she would have come blazing out the door in seconds. With the experience of years, she knew to gauge the level of danger before leaping to action, and to gauge based on more than a single panicked voice.
So she readied herself, straightening her badge of office and tightening the straps of her belt. A minute later, Baiva, her deputy, rushed into the office, rambling and breathless from running.
“Sheriff, it’s…it’s the Dragon Wing Gang! They’re heading straight…straight for town, and they’ve got the big boss with them!”
Yasova nodded, sliding bullets into her bandolier. “Are the folks up the hill still getting ready for the festivities?”
“Yes ma’am.”
“Good. Go run and make sure they stay calm. And the big boss…how far away is she?”
“A couple minutes, I’d guess.”
Yasova stood and hefted her rifle over one shoulder. The “Dragonclaw” was as much a sign of the sheriff’s office in the town as the three-clawed badge pinned to Yasova’s breast was. Long as a grown woman was tall, with a dark wood handle and a barrel etched with dragons in flight, it was handed down to each new leader to hold the office.
“Well then, let’s give her a nice warm welcome.”
Yasova’s boots thudded crisply across the wooden deck of the county office, each step punctuated by the jangle of her spurs. She marched straight down the steps and onto the dusty road, staring down the slight slope of main street toward the cluster of riders charging toward the town on horseback.
Town folk and visitors from other counties stood nervously on either side of the street. Bald-headed traveling monks from the Jeskai county whispered amongst themselves as Yasova passed. Silumgar merchants with snakeskin boots and tiger furs clutched at their coinpurses. A small girl with a white dress than Yasova could not place skulked outside the general store, nibbling a cookie. Quite the audience, but they gave the sheriff all the space she needed.
The high noon sun made the frontier grasslands below glow with a golden light. The main road through town led up from the lowland fields and exited out the other end on a path toward the grazing and foraging lands among the foothills. The gateway to Temur County territory.
Yasova’s own corner of the world to protect.
The riders slowed to a trot as they passed the first buildings in town. About a block away from the county office, the group stopped, and their leader swung down from the saddle to surveil the town.
“You’re keeping the place looking real nice, Yasova!”
Alesha “Big Boss” Deathgrin pulled off her hat. Her long hair fell in braids all the way down to her belt, which holstered the two biggest six-shooters Yasova had ever laid eyes on. Even from a distance, Yasova could feel the other woman’s eyes cutting into her.
Alesha started forward, long confident strides carrying her swiftly up the main street.
“Why so quiet, sheriff? I thought this was a party!”
“You’re all a bit early for the spring feast,” Yasova called back, digging the heel of her boot into the dirt. “The townsfolk are still making preparations up in the hills.”
“Wanted to make sure we didn’t miss a second of the fun,” Alesha called back. Even from the distance, the white of her wide-toothed smile was evident. She stopped in her tracks, about twenty paces from Yasova. “Hadn’t gotten an invitation, can you imagine that? What kind of neighbors don’t invite you to the biggest shindig of the year?”
“Neighbors who know you’ll show up without one.”
Alesha’s laugh was a sharp bark, one that quieted the last of the town folk’s murmurs. Her grin widened. Yasova returned the smile with a tight-lipped smirk. The sun was casting short shadows on everyone out in the road, and Yasova could feel small beads of sweat starting to form on the back of her neck and start the slow roll down her collar.
A vulture-aven screeched somewhere overhead and out of sight.
Alesha broke the standoff, sprinting all-out toward Yasova. The sheriff tensed. She could see the townsfolk on either side of the street do the same.
Five feet from where Yasova stood, Alesha hollered and leapt at her, throwing both arms around her neck. Yasova wrapped her free arm around the shorter woman and pulled her in for a kiss and embrace that nearly knocked the sheriff off of her feet.
The town around then erupted into cheers and shouts. Alesha’s gang was hollering as well, as they made their slow way further into town. It was all noise to Yasova, her attention firmly set on the warm lips and strong hands of her nomad lover.
“Glad you could join us,” she managed at last, when they finally pulled their faces apart.
“Glad you’re having us back after last time.” Alesha squeezed Yasova around the waist. “I thought for sure we’d been too rowdy at the last spring festival for your tastes.”
“Never rowdy enough, personally speaking.” Yasova pulled Alesha into a side-hug and started off toward the stables. “Whole town’s been nervous that you wouldn’t bring enough of that spiced fig-liquor this year.”
Alesha barked out another laugh. “No fear there. I’ve got riders half a day behind us with enough to drown all your mountains in.”
They turned past the general store, and Alesha dropped her hat on the head of the girl in the strange white dress. The girl let out a giggle of delight and grabbed at the brim. Yasova turned around for half a second to get a better look at the little stranger, but the girl had already disappeared into the crowd with her prize.
No matter. Yasova ran a thumb along one of Alesha’s braids. The town had a whole night of fun ahead of them, and she had her sweetheart at her side, at least for a little while.

In Today’s Magic Story...
Chronicle of Bolas: The Unwritten Now
Last time, Naiva succumbed to Bolas’ mind control! Today, can she overcome it, or will my foreboding predictions come true...?
Well the title is obviously misleading, because this story has been written, now.
I’m pretty sure no twin would do this to their twin, even if one of them was magically special. But then again I’m not a twin, so I won’t assume.
Good on ya, Ugin. Detox Bolas’ presence from her brain.
And now you’ve made Granny Yasova angry. Great.
"Of course I have not forgotten you. I cut you two out of my daughter's dead body with the knife you were holding to your sister's throat.” -- Yasova Dragonclaw
Holy f*cking shit. That... that’s... oh my god... yeah no wonder she’s furious... yeah I’d be too...
Again, why does Bolas want Yasova? In any event, having Naiva attempt to kill Baishya is a good way to get her angry enough to confront him.
"He killed Ugin by turning the minds of all the dragons against their own progenitor. He's a Planeswalker, ancient beyond measure. So yes, I must assume he can destroy Tarkir if he decides to do so." -- Yasova Dragonclaw
Give it a few decades and he’ll lose that power to the mending. Actually he’ll be mudered by Tetsuo Umezawa. Hope you brought rations!
Listen. Naiva. You live in a world of dragons and magic. Hell, you live in a world where the Sultai/Silumgar exist! You know dead things can come back! Or, oh I dunno, just throwing it out there, THE F*CKING ABZAN AND THEIR KIN TREES YOU DINGUS!!!
I hope we get to know why Ugin is the soul of Tarkir. We know the legend from Tarkir, but not from Ugin himself.
"Why does that matter to us? Why not let Bolas have what he wants so he'll go away?" -- Naiva
Idiotic self-explanitory rhetorical questions Award, that’s what this goes for.
She smiled at her sister's face, twin to her own, the mirror she'd looked into for all of her life.
I mean, apart from that cut you just made on your sister’s neck, but yeah.
Okay seriously tho WHO’S THAT GIRL???
Don’t be so hard on yourself, Ugin. Bolas is a b*tch, period, end of discussion. It’s not your fault.
A bright flash like the rising of a second sun spills a splash of gold across the still waters.
Okay, show of hands, who else is tired of all the second sun imagery used for Bolas? Anyone?
You know, for as much as this story was meant to be an origin for Nicol Bolas, it’s really diminished his image in my eyes. He’s just a petulant brat now, not a cryptic mastermind, and it’s sad.
Ugin takes the only path left open to him, even if it means Nicol will brand him a weakling and a coward for it. He walks out of the Meditation Realm and through the darkness to drop into storm-wracked Zendikar.
I was gonna make a comment about “Hasn’t Zendikar suffered enough???”, but this is before trapping the Eldrazi, so apparently not.
Ooh, Kephalai! This was where Chandra stole the scroll that led to Zendikar!
Also, Ravnica’s urban sprawl hasn’t encompassed the entire plane yet.
Also, I just want to imagine what’s going through the peoples’ minds as two dragons suddenly appear out of nowhere and then vanish just as fast.
As the thought washes over him, he sees in his mind's eye the still waters of the Meditation Realm. He sees himself reflected in that liquid mirror, down to every detail. What is the Meditation Realm, really?
How many hearts do dragons have anyways?
Also can we get a dragon planeswalker? Not an elder one like Ugin or Bolas, but just a young dragon who’s really friendly please?
Okay, so the death of Ugin is close to how Bolas described it.
A moment passes. A year. A generation. A millennium. Or maybe, no time at all.
Make up your mind! Magic’s timeline is already hard enough for us Vorthos fans to line up as it is.
So here Ugin becomes the spirit dragon thanks to the Meditation Realm. Which Bolas uses. So even if he’s killed on Ravnica, he could come back as ghost Bolas. Ooh, Scary!
Again, Bolas is devolved into a petulant destructive dragon, and not the mastermind he was built up to be.
Oh hey, this scene again. What up, Azor?
What’s with that claw there?
Wait, what? You’re sacrificing your shaman?
Baishya is right. Shamans have access to blue mana.
"Why do you lie?" the dragon cried. "I saw him fall! I saw his body hit the ground. Your own granddaughter confirmed it. Little Naiva, is it not true? Ugin is dead!"
And you saw him die before. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, that’s bad character writing for a villainous mastermind.
Side note, I do like seeing people stand up to powerful planeswalkers again.
Oh good they’re alive. And that plan will hopefully keep Bolas from Tarkir forever. Now I have to figure out another way the Khans of Tarkir will return...
Ah yes, the flirting. Go ahead.
That’s right, Yasova met that rascally Sarkhan and his time warping. Though I’m 100% sure he’s part dragon now through sheer force of will.
Aw, looks like Tae Jin won’t be staying with y’all.
Naiva, Yasova just told you about what-if’s. Seriously.
And they all lived happily ever after.
And we did it! We finished Core 2019′s story! And it was...
Okay? It was okay. It was obvious to see where the plot was being railroaded to, what with Naiva’s rivalry with her twin, but I stayed along for the ride. And in the end, it was pretty good. The ending really brought everything together, and I liked the Tarkir side of the ending.
Bolas’ characterization, on the other hand, is what I dislike. Before he was a scheming mastermind -- and granted, as this is in the past, he might’ve changed -- but it’s jarring going from that to toddler-levels of temper tantrum. Especially when it comes right before the block where sh*t’s about to go down (I know they’re not doing sets but if they’re on the same plane they’re blocks in my book).
All in all, it was rough, but we got some neat lore and history, and it was alright in the end. I wouldn’t call it Bizarre, for there wasn’t enough to call good. It was a ride, and despite all the twists and turns, ups and downs, I still quite enjoyed it.
BUT
Can the gatewatch patch up Ravnican politics enough to get the entire plane to fight Bolas? Is Ajani actually bringing friends or is he just going on a farewell tour? Will Jace get his character straight in time? Will Chandra discover better uses for file under Jaya’s tutelage? Will Gideon still believe in Liliana even after he sees her at Bolas’ side? Will Teferi or Karn pull a Sarkhan on Ravnica as the ultimate deus ex machina? Will the Sylex be used? Will Vraska be ready to do her part? What part will Ral play? Will we remember Domri Rade after so long, or will he be another forgotten gruulwalker? Can the Selesnya work together without everyone being under their banner? Will the Boros actually stop crimes? Can the Golgari survive another coup with the zombies the kraul are unleashing? Izzet time for Mizzet to bite the dust? Will the Dimir get a better mechanic, and a better guildmaster? Will the Azorius rise above the precedent set for them by their parun? Will the Rakdos kick it up to eleven? Can the Gruul get a better identity than ‘savages’? Will the Simic create more ooze monsters? Will the Orzhov use their room where the guildpact doesn’t hold sway to turn the tide?
And for the love of god--
--WILL FBLTHP BE ALRIGHT???
Stay Tuned for Ravnica 3: Electric Boogaloo!

Commander Challenge: Pre-Dragon Khan's Dancing All Night - The Golden Also, an announcement on Commander Challenge
Hey all, Gryffnwing here. So Commander Challenge has been doing well, and has received some great feed back. Now when I started the polls, it boomed. Still is. Well, I have to say, but the articles can no longer be published on Tuesdays. See, I’ve been jobless since I started the polls. Well, this week I have an interview, and expect a few more in the upcoming weeks. Which means I will most likely be work 4-5 days a week, and more likely on Tuesdays. So while I want to continue making the articles and posting some really sweet brews, I must move the day. Starting with the double deck tech. Commander Challenge will be posted on Saturdays. So the way this will work is, I post the winner of the previous poll, then right after, the weeks previous winners, then the new poll. Awkward, right? Ok, so this upcoming Saturday, I will be posting the winner of this poll, followed by the Gods deck tech, then the brand new poll. Next Saturday, I post the winner of the next poll, the khans article, and a new poll. Brace yourself, the spamming is coming. Posting all this on Saturday, will also let me work on other articles during the week. Also, I know I misspelled Yasova on the poll...I just can’t edit it though. I apologize! Onto the show! We doing the old Khans! You know who I mean! If you do, come here to vote. If you don’t, go below to find out~
First off, Alesha is our first open Trans character. She broke waves with her story, and her card is just astounding. She can be built with an infinite combo, warrior tribal, just bum rush your opponents with creatures. Not only will she break waves, but she’ll break through the lines! Deck Budget $150
The one who settled with the Dragons, left traditions. Daghatar plays with the fun of +1/+1 Counters. He’s a non-bo with Amonkhet’s -1/-1 counter theme, but I’m sure we can make it work. Deck Budget $100
The not so silent tiny leader (That format still a thing?) In Jeskai colors, the tempest hits hard when droping small spells. Will he combo off, or will our combos beat our opponents? Deck Price $110
People think Tasigur is the guy on the throne. Really, it’s the banana’s. So we got delve on this guy. So we got self-mill things, and an ability to let our opponents return something to our hand. Well, at least he’s got them sick gold chains...oh..he becomes one...my bad... Deck Price $100
She has a kitty! She’s the Temur general that isn’t “broken”. We have a theme of dominance over the opponent; he effect displays this greatly. At 4 power, she can take most hings, and generals. We can build around her to make her strong, or make our opponents creatures weak. Still, she has a kitty. Deck Price $150 Remember, you can vote here. As always, thank you all for participating, and giving feed back. Now there can only be one! Khan battle perimeters ready! Fight! Until the next article, Gryffnwing~

Strange Bedfellows- Yasova Dragonclaw
There are many, many available ways to fill a Command Zone. 797, to be exact. (687 Legendary Creatures, 105 combinations of Partner Commanders, and 5 Planeswalker Commanders.) Some of them, like Kaalia, Atraxa, and Meren are instant smash hits with the adoring masses, and find their way onto every kitchen table and roundtable rivalry in the known universe. Some, in the vein of Atarka, World Render, Talrand, Sky Summoner and Horde of Notions become beloved niche Commanders, and go on to see just as much, if sparser, play. Some, like the Commanders I aim to discuss in this series, really just never quite get that level of popularity. With this series, I aim to explore some of the lesser-played (from my perspective) Commanders available in the format and offer card suggestions for a new, and unique, Commander to add to your arsenal.
Today’s subject is Yasova Dragonclaw. 1000 years ago, Yasova was Khan of the Temur, and a woman whose strength and ferocity were said to rival those of dragons. Below the cut, I’ll be discussing just what makes Yasova such a Ferocious (see what I did there) way to head up your 99.
So, let’s begin with a list of Yasova’s qualities. -Yasova is a low-CMC creature with high power, low toughness, and evasion. -She has a repeated, triggered ability which impacts combat. -Yasova’s ability checks based on the the target’s power being less than Yasova’s. What those things mean is that we have a Commander who is good at coming down early and swinging, and wants us to pump up her power to allow her to steal ever-bigger things. Her Trample means that all that power-pumping can go right to our opponents faces, and we can let the 21 take care of them for us. With that criteria in mind, I can think of three categories of cards we want- cards that pump Yasova’s power, cards that allow us to trigger Yasova repeatedly, and cards that allow us to profit off of Yasova’s trigger. CARDS THAT PUMP YASOVA Okay, this is a fun category. I want to set a few bars, though. First, since Commander is a format with a *ton* of big things, we want to be able to pump Yasova up a lot with only a few cards. Bonesplitter and Darksteel Axe are okay, but we can do a lot better. I’m talking things like Empyrial Plate, Butcher’s Cleaver, Hero’s Blade, Loxodon Warhammer, O-Naginata, Tenza, and Godo’s Maul. Oh, and that’s just Equipment. There’s also some sweet Auras like Boar Umbra and Gaea’s Embrace, which can help protect Yasova, and Wolfir Silverheart, which both pumps Yasova and adds a second huge nasty to the board. Honestly, there are dozens and dozens of ways I haven’t listed all through Magic’s history, so for this one, I’d encourage you to do a little bit more digging of your own. Suffice it to say, making Yasova unreasonably big is going to be a snap. Ooooh, I can see their life totals dropping already. CARDS THAT ALLOW MULTIPLE YASOVA TRIGGERS This category comes with a warning- You have to pay the mana for EACH Yasova trigger SEPERATELY. To steal TWO CREATURES, you must pay SIX MANA. Do not make a fool of yourself like I did. Still, there are a bunch of good ways to get several Yasova Triggers, from Extra Combat Step cards like World at War, Savage Beating, Relentless Assault, Hellkite Charger, Scourge of the Throne, and Seize the Day. Oh, and my long-time friend, Strionic Resonator! Even if you don’t have the mana left to steal a second creature, you can attack again with the first one! Adding extra combat steps to this deck is a lot like taking *the* most important part of your turn twice. Beautiful. CARDS THAT PROFIT OFF OF YASOVA’S TRIGGER
What if I told you that the world as you know it, isn’t real? What if I told you that, not only can you *take* your opponent’s creatures, you can keep them... and generate sick value doing it? You can choose *not* to pay the trigger cost, wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. Or... you can pay the trigger cost... and see just how far this rabbit hole goes. No, really. There are a *lot* of ways to get out of giving your opponents their creatures back. Sacrifice outlets like Greater Good, High Market, Shivan Harvest, Culling Dais, Ooze Garden and Evolutionary Leap, plus one-shot effects like Life’s Legacy and Momentous Fall can kill off your opponent’s creatures after you attack and netting you sweet value in the process. Here’s the dirtiest part of all of this, though. The secret tech. Are you ready? Drumroll please... It’s... This disgusting piece of cardboard, right here. See, Conjurer’s Closet does something unique. It returns whatever you exile to the battlefield under *your* control, not under the control of it’s owner. In other words- On your end step, you target the creature under your control via Yasova’s ability. Then, it exiles the creature, and the creature becomes a new object. Yasova’s effect will no longer give it back on the cleanup step, and you keep the creature until it leaves the battlefield. Yes, we’re awful. Yes, we most certainly do love it. As for the rest of the deck, you can fill it with value creatures, land ramp, card draw, and ETB creatures- anything that strikes your fancy. I recommend a few of those good-old-fashioned ETB creatures that can show up, provide value, and get blinked or sacrificed to your value engines later on. Also, Yasova can get mana-hungry, so having a tonne of land ramp can be hella useful. Well, that’s all for today, everyone. I hope I’ve introduced you all to somebody you might not have seen at the top of the 99 before!

I don't know if someone has already asked this, but what is your favorite commander? Mines Yasova Dragonclaw.
Oooh Temur is a very fun color combo and there are some very silly plays you can set up with her
Well, I think I might have answered this before, but my favorite is good old Experiment Kraj.
It may be one of the weakest Simic commanders, but it is just so fun to play around it and just copy stuff from all around the board
Opponent played an Arcanis? Put a counter on it, play a ragworm and you get Ancestral Recall on a stick
Someone played a Krenko? Put a counter on it, get a changeling on the board and BOOM you have a goblin army
There are just so many unique scenarios and fun combos that you can do with it
Also it was my rare from my first booster pack ever so Satan’s Grape Jelly here has a special place in my heart

Yasova, Pack Leader
Hello everyone and welcome to another week of Shattered Perceptions, the series where I attempt to redefine the use of off-the-beaten-path cards in Commander through the lens of general of the week. As I prepare for the Dollar General festivities as Grand Prix Minneapolis this weekend, everything has become somewhat hectic, leaving me with less time to do the solid research I like to do on colors…

Dank-Jank Spotlight: What’s Yours Is Now Mine
Do you ever just wish you could have all of your opponents fun and cool toys and not have to give them back at the end of turn? Well boi... do I have a combo for you! And it’s a super easy and simple combo to run as well being very splashable. Let’s snap to it Will Henry!
The Combo
For this recipe you’re gonna need 3 ingredients: Archaeomancer, Ghostly Flicker, and an ability or spell that steals permanents your opponents control. For this example we’ll use Dominus of Fealty.
Using Dominus’ theft ability during our upkeep, let’s say we steal a land from our opponent. With an Archaeomancer on the field, we cast Ghostly Flicker targeting the stolen land and the Mancer. When the spell resolves, we flicker the land and Mancer, returning them both to the battlefield under your control and you get to return the Flicker back to your hand with Mancer’s etb. And what’s key is the wording of Ghostly Flicker. “Exile two target artifacts, creatures, and/or lands you control, then return those cards to the battlefield under your control.” UNDER YOUR CONTROL. Even tho your opponent owns the land you stole, it was under your control when you cast the Flicker, and the Flicker returns it to play under your control. No more “until end of turn” effect on it, it is your permanent now. With Archaeonmancer, we get to consistently bring back the Flicker to our hand after we cast it. Since the combo is mono blue (Archaeomancer 2UU and Ghostly Flicker 2U) you can easily splash this into any deck with blue that likes taking things. Commanders that enable this are Rubinia Soulsinger, Merieke Ri Berit, Yasova Dragonclaw, Zedruu the Greathearted and Empress Galina (although it should be noted that Ghostly Flickering a Commander can just result in the owner of the Commander sending it back to the Command zone when it hits exile before it gets returned to the field.)
I particularly love the Zedruu interaction of taking control of your opponents permanents and then gifting them to other players. Can make games very chaotic and fun if your playgroup is very casual about it.
This can also be splashed into other colors with cards like Puppeteer Clique.
Cast Puppeteer Clique, bring back a creature from your opponents graveyard and then Ghostly Flicker the returned creature and Mancer. That creature is now permanently yours. You can later Flicker the Mancer and Clique to reset the Clique if it dies. Red is infamous for it’s Threaten type effects and cards. Zealous Conscripts comes to mind with Molten Primordial.
Possibilities are endless. Enjoy.

In Today’s Magic Story...
Chronicle of Bolas: Whispers of Treachery
*punches through the ground*
*emerges from my coffin*
I LIVE AGAIN! They thought they could kill me by taking a week off of Magic Story, but I live! In all seriousness I was going to post a poll for you lot to choose my new icon, but real life got in the way of things. Both my siblings are back from college and the stress/anxiety/tension is real.
But enough about that, let’s get back to teenage drama and dragons! (btw totally claiming Drama & Dragons for my fantasy-based dating sim)
Since Fourth of July interrupted our regular festivities, let’s super abridge Things Unseen!
Dragons of Tarkir is still the worst timeline.
Yasova & Co. escape; Atarka dragon kills Ojutai dragon whilst teenage drama ensues over Tae Jin.
Nicol and Ugin both learn some new tricks.
Dragon-hunting villages have been set up around the twins’ birth mountain, one for each color, and you can’t convince me these aren’t Sarkhan’s ancestors.
Tae Jin knows ghostfire. Hypocritical granny asks why it’s still around when it’s supposed to be outlawed, despite having a seer grandaughter.
Your grandmother still is a formidable woman. She can still fight, as we’ve seen moments ago.
Loot the body. Actually wait, this is Dragons of Tarkir: don’t loot the body. Make some burial arrangements or season it with spices for the other Atarka dragons.
Again, your own grandkid is a forbidden seer; why are you so hung up about this ghostfire warrior?
I mean we already know from Narset that the old ways survived, but good to know they still do.
You still haven’t mentioned who your master is, Tae Jin. Why do I have the feeling it’s going to be a big reveal later on?
"Ugin is dead." Naiva thought she would have to repeat herself forever. "Isn't that right, Grandmother?"
“Oh I set up the trap to kill him, and I would’ve gotten away from it too, if it weren’t for that meddling Sarkhan.” -- Granny Yasova, probably
The dragons may rule you now, but give it a thousand years or so and I’m sure something will happen to bring the clans back. We will have our wedge plane back!
I’m surprised something of her cat survived. I thought Atarka ate it.
Reminder that on Tarkir, it doesn’t rain cats and dogs: it rains motherf*cking DRAGONS!!!
"It's a dragon tempest, and it's moving in fast," Fec added. "I know their scent and taste well."
...as loath as I am do ask, just how do you know what dragon tastes like?
Oh yeah, I forgot the Temur had ainok with them.
"Don't you want my help, Grandmother?" Baishya asked just as Naiva said, "I'd like to see what the insides of a dragon look like!"
Another runner-up for the Non-Sequitur Award!
Heart of the Earth flowers is such a neat name, like forget-me-nots. actually, forget-me-not flowers also go by Scorpion Grasses, which is way more hardcore. You have a punk significant other? Don’t just give them flowers, give them Scorpion Grass!
Mmm, I’m loving this descriptive language. A bit out of place, but I’m not complaining at the description of his muscles.
I thought you called it Heart of the Earth, or is this a different herb? Anyways, All-heal is a more boring name. To the point, but boring.
I mean I know we’re supposed to equate Naiva to Bolas, but I’m really starting to dislike her here.
Tarkir has sheep? I mean, I get it, but I’m surprised they weren’t hunted to extinction.
Oh wait it’s goat’s wool. How different does that feel?
Their mountains are borderered by plains and islands. Yours have islands too, but also forests, Naiva.
I love story magic, just in general.
I wonder what that poison is, and if we’ll see it again when fighting Bolas.
Don’t worry, Ugin. As long as that knight isn’t enchanted or equipped, all it can do is defend.
Oh shit! It’s Chromium! Awesome!
"Do what?" asked the biped, who appeared outwardly as a pregnant human except for the way his eyes shone like sapphires, refulgent with a dragon's power.
... I’m not gonna even begin to comment on this. Someone out there got their wish, I’m sure: the rest of us have to deal with it.
Ah so that’s why they were so eager to drink the dragon’s blood and eat blood-soaked dirt. Again, are we sure they aren’t related to Sarkhan?
Salting their fields may be good and all, but Sowing Salt just removes a nonbasic land from a player’s board, hand, graveyard, and library. For 2RR. You can do better than that.
I love how much I hate Bolas for continuously twisting Chromium’s argument. This is the Nicol Bolas we all know.
But our elder brother's rage flared in a flash of staggeringly bright blue light. The air around us swirled. A strong gust shoved me backward like a blow. When the blinding-white haze faded, Chromium Rhuell in all his draconic magnificence loomed over us, shining like a mirror ablaze with light. His wings were spread wide and the flat crest of his face reflected the sun in my eyes so I could barely see. "I hear what you are doing, Nicol Bolas. You twist words to whatever shape you wish them to make, then twist them again to suit your wishes. You are the least of us, last fallen, not even a whole dragon but only half of one, bound as you are to Ugin. Do not ever again attempt to challenge me or you will regret it." -- Chromium F*cking Rhuell
I’m making a new award for this. It’s the Dovin F*cking Baan award, for supreme badassery and ownage.
Even as a kid, Bolas is leaving his horn markings everywhere. Soon people will be getting it as tattoos and putting it up on architecture.
What about going up to the mountain, Nicol? Did you forget that?
Btw, this is how Draconic Sorcery probably came to be in Dominaria.
Is this Nicol using more mind magic?
Nicol casually biting off the head of a messenger. It reminds me of a Nicol Bolas ripping off someone’s arm just to slap them with it.
Ah, so it is Nicol’s mind magic!
How is Ugin hearing all this mind magic? Through his bones no less?
I know I haven’t been commenting on the whole ‘Nicol manipulates everyone into fighting each other’ thing, but it’s just so good.
Yes Ugin! Get out of that abusive relationship! Let your spark ignite!
Ugin first planeswalked to Tarkir!
Oh come on I couldn’t not use that gif. Where’s the rest of Ugin’s story???
"This was no tempest-born dragon. This dragon vanished in a flash of golden light, like a second sun.”
I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE
Does everyone that see a hedron know instinctively what it is? Otherwise Yasova shouldn’t know that word.
A ptarmigan is a type of game bird, like a grouse.
"First Mother, you'd best come see."
And that’s the end of another Magic Story! And what a wild ride it was! From teenage drama to manipulation and finally freedom! We got ghostfire! Hypocrisy! Family drama! Cat pelts! Dragon storms! Dragon harvesting! Muscles! Scorpion Grass! Parallels! Goat wool! Land jokes! Travelers! Disguises that are best left discussed! Twisting words! Chromium layin’ down the pwnage! Nicol Bolas, Puppeteer! Fly-by decapitation! Ugin realizing what Nicol thinks of him! Ugin’s ignition! End of scroll! Allusions!
But will Yasova & the grandkids make it to Ugin’s tomb? What landed outside their cave with such a loud noise? What will Ugin do on Tarkir? Will he create the dragon storms, and if so for what purpose? How soon will Nicol pick up on planeswalking after seeing his twin do it? What will become of the other Elder Dragons? And will Wizards d*ck us over again by not posting a story next week?
Stay Tuned!

I think Doug Beyer said it all the way back during KTK, but I think it must have been a video or something because I cannot find a written comment. However, in the KTK story “Victory,” Zurgo refers to Sarkhan Vol exclusively as “Vol,” and at one point says “he called himself Sarkhan,” and in context implies that the Temur were offended that he called himself their overlord. Then again in “Unwritten,” Yasova Dragonclaw mocks Sarkhan when he introduces himself, calling his name “ridiculous.”
Yeah, I posted that as a reblog to an earlier ask. Tumblr’s system isn’t great for that kind of thing! I hate when story content is revealed in videos and nowhere else, because it’s mostly just IMPLIED in the stories themselves.
