Thank you for your support, omg I’m sorry I’ve been on an unofficial break and had a lot to return to! Thanks for understanding with the GN reader since that’s what I’m most comfortable with! 

I tend to write separate headcanons for them but tbh, at this point I’m going to write them together. I’ve seen the animation (donghua) and the live action, currently reading the novels! The animation and the drama are a bit different, in the drama the Wen Clan was a part of the event the Gusu clan held but in the animation, that wasn’t a thing so I’m going to stick with the animation. WWX did meet Wen Ning during the sunshot campaign if I remember correctly? Regardless, the Wen clan are slightly hated at this point. Minus the exceptions (Wen Ning and Wen Qing’s small branch), the Wen clan is full of arrogant and ego full assholes who nobody likes. While you try your hardest not to be like them, people still lump you with them. 

I like to think that LWJ doesn’t exactly hold any negative emotions towards you, you’re just. . .there. WWX however, is a mix. You’re apart of the Wen clan so at first he may be a bit like on guard, but he’s not one to judge too quickly so he waits to see how you are before affirming his belief. Once he deems you’re not a threat and just misunderstood, he tries to do that playful teasing. 

“You’re a sight for sore eyes, normally the Wen clan is full of inexperienced yet proud members.” 

While he may be correct, it hurts to have your name disrespected. You try to avoid WWX as much as possible and focus on your mission, but he’s always around. I think the main point is what you chose to do when the Wen Clan tries to take control. Are you going to stand up for the others or are you going to assert power. LWJ, I’m gonna be honest, I don’t see him liking anyone other than WWX, so while I have written headcanons for him in the romantic sense, he’s doing it for WWX. LWJ may end up forming platonic feelings, but probably not romantic. So having that in mind, I think LWJ would enjoy knowing that even in the Wen Clan, there are still some good people. He’d probably give advice or support you, try to guide you into doing the right thing. WWX is probably the person who probably thinks power dynamics are somewhat attractive. He loves assertion! I don’t exactly have much to add, during the battle they probably hope you haven’t died or on apposing sides. When the small Wen Clan branch is being murdered they also hope you have gotten to safety. WWX would probably try his hardest to ensure you survive. LWJ would also, he really admires the strength you have to go against your own clan even if it’s wrong (secretly until after WWX dies because he did go against his clan and received I think 300 slashes?)

I won’t leave you if you stop.” He nods and hugs you despite the blood staining your clothes “Thank you love. I promise I won’t do it again.” With that confirmation you knew you weren’t sure about it anymore. Who was he even, why is he like this?, obsessed.. You began to ask Wei Wuxian for help in Jiang Cheng’s condition right now but of course he never knew as he never acted like this.. “He was never like that.. I neved knew he had this side.. I ran away because I would be accused for something I never did..” Thoughts circle your brain through the night when Jiang Cheng held you closer to him as if that was his last hug. You weren’t allowed to do anything unless you ask him for permission or atleast with him. “Wanyin can I go shopping with Yanli?” In truth you actually wanted to meet with Wei Wuxian and Yanli about what to do incase he kills someone again.. “Sure just let me go with you.” You nod and instead you text Yanli about it and said to schedule it another time or use codes. You didn’t want him to go to jail or leave you, but after this incident you make sure to keep an eye on him.

‘‘Wh-What have you done...” Your eyes never lifted from the corpse who lay at his feet, mangled and tormented before his death. ‘‘This thing? Don’t tell me you’re worked up over this heathen, Y/N.” He let go of his now dead adoptive brother’s hair. His breaths were uneven, his eyes soulless as he stepped towards you.

You wanted to scream, you wanted to run, perhaps shout for help. Yet you were frozen in spot, rendered immobile. Your eyes widening once a hand enveloped your neck and tugged you forward. 

“Oh Y/N... Oh my dear... Precious, Y/N...” Wei Wuxian’s voice laced with malice as his hand brought you closer despite your strangled plea. “Don’t shed tears for him... Now that he’s gone, won’t you finally be mine...?” The words brushed against the side of your ear. His voice sounded nothing like it usually did. It wasn’t the bubbly, upbeat one that you fell in love with. Instead it was full of wickedness. 

‘‘W-Wei... Y-..iing... I-I ca...n’t....!” 

“You can’t what? Can’t stand being away from me? Can’t live without my touch? Aww, Y/N... My sweet, sweet Y/N...”

His free, blood-drenched reaching up to brush against your cheek. Your strangled cries were muffled when his lips crashed against your own, his teeth sinking into your lower lip. The kiss was not sweet. It wasn’t warm and full of love.

It was demanding.

As he parted from your barely conscious form, blood trickled down his chin from the wound he left on your now blue-tinted lips.

I’m so sorry for making you wait my mental health just declined for no reason but nonetheless, here we go!! 

I really couldn’t be a mythical creature to save my life because all were interesting and slightly different, so I guess I’ll just do general headcanons for an unspecified but still mythical creature! Okay, as a non-human in this world, it’s quite easy to be confused with a ghost or a fierce corpse. You’re probably on someone’s (Jin Guangyao) hit list. Despite that, you still manage to avoid cultivators and hunters alike so they’re getting real desperate for your capture. Not WWX and LWJ, they’re smart and because WWX has had let’s say a past with ghosts, he knows you’re not one. You don’t really pose a harm unless provoked because you have emotions and a free will. I have the feeling that while you’re on the run, you stop by Cloud Recesses for a break. Well, someone’s spotted you and have alerted the Lan clan of Gusu, resulting in LWJ and WWX coming out to see. When they first get there, LWJ spares no time in trying to dispose of you (sorry y’all) but WWX quickly realizes something is wrong. You’re not reacting like most ghosts so it’s possible you don’t exactly pose a threat. After investigating, you’re in the clear and going back with them because they need to keep you safe. 

They clear your name and slowly start to rebuild your life with them. Casual conversations with LWJ and chaotic energy with WWX (he’s just like me fr). It’s a casual friendship where they defend you a lot, because I know the word doesn’t spread like crazy just yet and some are skeptical. I guess, one way to ensure your survival, is to keep you near WWX and LWJ who can kill you if needed. They of course, won’t do that. You’re just so much fun and I know LWJ being the responsible one ends up reading about your lore to understand you better why WWX prefers the old trial and error, asking you directly, and observing you naturally. As far as their yandere tendencies, they go really overboard. They’re both super overprotective of you because everyone isn’t exactly on board with you still living because you know them, always afraid of the unknown. So if you go out, it’s with one of them. Even around the estate, when they go on missions they drag you along because they don’t want to risk anything.

Again, like I’ve mentioned countless times, I don’t like to split up Wangxian so this will be a poly relationship! 

Wei Wuxian/Lan Wanji 

For starters, this is one of the tamest yanderes you could be with if you listen. If you follow their few requirements you’ll forget that you were even kidnapped, they’re very chill but. . .let’s say that you didn’t listen to them. It was simple, stay within the house perimeters and don’t go out. The entire Lan Clan is happy with you being here for the two and happily welcomed your daughter. I can already see WWX and LWJ shedding tears at the birth/adoption of your daughter. Their newest addition to the family! 

Once they were brought in, rules were added for both your protection and your daughter! Think of if with the Lan brother’s and their mother. She was given a home but could not leave it. You could walk around the entire sect, you just couldn’t leave. Well, that’s exactly what you did and you got punished for it. They were really disappointed with your behavior but I think what hurt them the most would be seeing your daughter upset. 

Maybe they weren’t harsh on you, but you were scared of the possibility of them being angry. It’s been like that for years. You know they’d never hurt you but you were scared of being left alone because I do see isolation or maybe WWX calling up a ghost for scares might be a usual punishment to make you realize, you NEED them. Anyways, your daughter is exposed to this, it doesn’t take long to realize that this behavior isn’t exactly ideal. The next time they scare you or lead you into a panic your daughter stands up. She talks about how she can’t have a stable relationship with either of them because she knows that they’re bullying you. They are hurting you, they are causing you distress and to them, it’s an eye opener. 

WWX and his biological family are unknown, but the family that he had with the Jiang Clan meant the world to him. He can’t stand the fact that his own child hates him and neither can LWJ. LWJ cherished the time he spent with his mother, so to some degree, the both can see what their daughter means and realize, it’s time to change. The both come to terms that they should listen to what their daughter says because they don’t want their child to grow up motherless or to some extend, feel like they grew up too quickly with shit parents. 

WWX would opt to separate the two of you for the time being. Give one another time to heal and then properly apologize for what has happed. Bringing together the entire family and talking the situation and striving to change. Granted as their daughter gets older they might add some rules towards them to protect of course. LWJ would try his best to show his daughter their logic and reasoning, but I feel like maybe he’s emotionally manipulate his daughter, tell her of their upbringing and why being a parent is a hard task. 

Jiang Cheng

Aside from the angst I’m about to spill I know for a fact that his daughter would be best friends with Jin ling and he wouldn’t grow up sad because his daughter would stand up for him when they bully him for it. 

Just like his relationship with Jin Ling, he’d love to show emotion but he feels like that would be weakness. He has strict rules on you for sure and those same rules apply to your daughter as well. He’s scared to lose the both of you without a doubt, but does he have to say such harsh words? It almost sounds as if he doesn’t even want you around! His daughter doesn’t waste any time in speaking against him. Sure, growing up with someone like that is tough, because you were somewhat scared of him, but this is about their mother! 

They speak their concerns and thought to Jiang Cheng it doesn’t seem like it means a lot to him considering he dismissed his daughter away, the thought lingers in his mind. He does this to protect his family, both his parents are dead, yanli is dead, and he can never face Wei Wuxian again because of what happened. He understands where they are coming from though, its the same with his mother. His mother loved and cared for him, she had a rough time expressing it and a rough way, but all he ever wanted was his mothers approval. This is where it gets interesting, it will take time but he’ll start slowly changing. 

He’ll let himself indulge in certain feelings from now on. Making it easier on his daughter so she doesn’t try to seek his approval, but he also awaits the moment he can hold your hand and admit his love for you. He loves you and his proud of you and your daughter, but he’s so afraid that the moment he looks away or seems weak, someone will come in and take you away from him like the Wen Clan took his family. 

Lan Xichen

I think I mentioned that worst case scenario your child will live separately from you if things went south, but let’s say it did. Your child only gets a few hours of visitation a couple of days until you start craving more. Lan Xichen uses this tactic to make it so that you plead and beg him to bring you back to him. Your child catches on to this and tries to negotiate with him. He sees her side and begins to think, she’s right. As much as he knows that his plan WILL work, he’s been thinking of breaking you down for a perfect family instead of trying to create a perfect family. Well he did raise a smart girl after all. 

It would have been a shock to him when his daughter comes to tell him. She hates what he’s doing to you because it’s not good. It’s not normal and he’s going to break this family if he keeps trying. I honestly see his daughter attempting to manipulate him into releasing you or changing his behavior towards you. While he doesn’t fall for the manipulation because he finds it amusing, he does come to understand her side and agrees. He starts to see that he enjoys a family who is together as opposed to one that is far away.

Yandere Wei Wuxian Headcanons 

These are my interpretations of his persona and none of these are 100% accurate. I don’t condone any of these actions in real life and all of this is purely fictional and should be taken as such!

These are based on the drama and anime, still reading the novel y’all. Anyway, without further ado let’s get into it! Wei Wuxian is a very complex character and while these are separate headcanons, I still say this relationship should be poly because I really don’t wanna split those two up. I’d feel hella guilty. So in short, the yandere type I see him as is manipulative, possessive, clingy and overprotective. 

Wei Wuxian is a character you could say I kin, his personality and mine are so in sync, very taunting and teasing but never too hard. Sacrificing ourselves for the greater good and for practically everyone and oddly enough being everyone's scapegoat. Anyway, enough trauma dumping but Wei Wuxian is someone who is VERY loyal to his family. Never faltering from his own beliefs even if people have different opinions about it. He’s a great character ngl.

He’d be overprotective. In this cruel world where corpses and untamed ghosts run free, you need to be protected at all costs. While they won’t mind any darling, they’d probably notice you a bit more if you were a cultivator since there would be more interactions. If you were just a normal individual who was not a cultivator but rather a villager, you’d have to belong to the Lan or Jiang Clan for more exposure. Regardless, at the start things turn south real quick. In the drama the Wen clan arrived and started trouble with literally EVERYONE. That scene was just so *CHEFS KISS*, they were all mad and Meng Yao (at the time) stood hella overprotective over Nie Huaisang and just GOSH. Shit had me trembling. Then we had the water ghost, then we had yin iron/tiger amulet, then we had more corpses, the tortoise of slaughter, the Jiang clan ELIMINATED, literally everyone ELIMINATED, like everything went south real fast. There is no doubt that Wei Wuxian would be very concerned for his S/O. If you were from the same sect he’d ensure that you’re with him or part of the group of him, Jiang Cheng, and Jiang Yanli. If you were from the Lan Clan he’d probably try to gather information from his adoptive father and through some connections to the outside cultivating world. He and Lan Wanji would without a doubt make the ultimate sacrifice or have their S/O stand back in safety while they dealt with the issue. 

Possessive. You’re his and his only. Thinking back to that ONE SCENE, “If I, Wei Wuxian, want to kill someone, who can stop me? Who dares to stop me?” LIKE AJFRBSFHF THAT SCENE WAS SO FUCKING SICK AND FOR WHAT!? No but yeah he’d definitely make a mockery of someone who dares approach you and make them instantly regret it. If you’re in the group with Jiang Cheng and Yanli, then he’d make it as a way of simply looking after you. If you’re from a different clan, he’d make it so that they seem like they have bad intentions and he just noticed it quickly. The manipulation also plays into this. Now hear me out, while HE CAN be manipulative, doesn't mean he WILL all the time. I see it as a last resort or if you’re too stubborn to understand that he means well and the other’s don’t. 

Clingy. Like hella. He’d more than likely always want to be by your side all the time. Again, if you’re part of the trio which is now a quartet with you, then he’d be by your side NONSTOP. This man would play it off as being bored and you’re the only entertaining person. If he isn’t there 25/8, then how will he protect you? How will others know that you’re his? You’re his lover? Lan Wangji’s lover? How will they know that they can’t do anything without him knowing if he isn’t the shadow behind you? Thing is, I see him and Lan Wangji as being the stalker type. Wangji can gather information or just stare at you from a distance whereas I see Wei Wuxian out here slipping through the shadows and staying behind you like 2 feet. 

Yandere Lan Wangji Headcanons

I see him as obsessive, possessive, overprotective, and stalker. I won’t side track and rather just get into it so that I can give SOME of them together. Overprotective. Like I mentioned in the WWX headcanons, he and WWX are such a great duo. Not only do they have the strength to back it up, but they also have the brains to strategize. He’s known as the Twin Jades of Lan, he’s got the talent y’all!! Following the Lan Clan’s principles and rules he’d be a lot more weary and make it known. As opposed to WWX who would probably go along and then act out, he’d make his intentions known asap, which is protecting you. When the Wen Clan is present and in Gusu, he’d probably advise you to be careful. Small comments and pieces of advice here and there. Maybe even asking one of the members of the clan to look after you. When going on night hunts he’d try not to make it too obvious but would try to hunt near you so make sure he can reach you in time if something happens. If you’re not a cultivator, he’d stop near your house. He’d probably say that he is here on a mission/night hunt and you’d believe him because why would he lie? Using that excuse, he’d examine the situation to make sure that you are safe and sound. 

With that in mind, I see him being obsessive. While I haven’t finished the novel, one can tell his feelings for WWX. He waited and looked for him for 13 years yall, mf is OBSESSED. He had his favorite wine prepared and set aside for his return, he was waiting for him and keep in mind, he didn’t know if he was really coming back or if he was staying 6 feet under (in this case under a mf cliff-). His S/O and WWX mean the WORLD to him. He’d do anything. LWJ is observant so without a doubt he’d instantly know if something is up with his S/O. He’d memorize your facial expression and what they mean. How you present yourself, what you’re thinking, how you really feel. He’ll know, trust me. Being a stalker and all, he’d follow you around. In some situations he’ll be near, trust me. Something goes wrong on a night hunt and mf bichen coming at you full speed ahead. He’ll offer to walk you, go with you on night hunts, invite you out, etc. Of course WWX is there with y’all. 

Possessive. Like with WWX, he’ll make sure that everyone knows you have him in your corner. While WWX is a bit more touchy in public, LWJ is there next to you or behind you. In some way he is near you, nobody will get close to you because he’d silently drag you away from them. The difference between WWX and LWJ is that WWX is more teasing/confrontational whereas LWJ is straightforward and silent. He’d drag you away when needed or tell you in his soothing voice, “[Reader], we are waited at Gusu.” 

Between the two of them, I say that WWX is a bit more scary because to scare someone away he raises the spirits and murders them in the most gruesome way. LWJ would bring up something they did in their past to humiliate them and ‘warn’ their S/O when in reality they want to make their S/O uninterested  with the individual they were conversing with. Together they are a strong duo who will without a doubt WORSHIP their S/O. They worship each other so you’ll be pampered no doubt. Constant praises, lingering kisses and touches. WWX and LWJ will love and spoil you to perfection.

He’ll for sure win unless you super talented and strong, but regardless I don’t think he’d stop. You lose the duel and you’re now his so congrats. You’d make a lovely edition to the clan and he can’t want to start a family and move forward with the relationship. Or. . .you manage to win the duel. He’s a bit surprised since he didn’t think he’d lose but oh well he lost. Now his buddy, Jin Guangyao might pull some strings here and there to get you in trouble. Who’ll come to your aid with a big smile, ready to help and defend your honor? He will. Maybe in terms of strength you’re fine, but in terms of the cultivation world and making a name for yourself? You need all the help you can get but don’t worry, you’re in great hands. 

Lan Wangji? Nah bro, I don’t think you’re winning that one. Especially if WWX come and helps him, bro bye. At this point, forfeit the fight cuz it ain’t gonna happen. WWX would laugh no doubt, probably tease you and comment on your boldness, whereas Wangji would simply nod and go along with it. At this point, you’re fighting them both. If you don’t win, don’t be surprised since they are talented individuals but together, they make an unstoppable team.  Let’s say by some chance you DO manage to win, these mfs are DESPERATE. Will not stop until they have you and I honestly think that they’d both be willing to break their end of the bargain and take you away. That’s more of a WWX thing, but LWJ would get help from his brother who’d pull a similar stunt. You just can’t do anything without LWJ standing up for you can you? Almost got hurt in that night hunt? Good thing WWX was there just in time to protect you! 

So in short, you’ll be their lovers regardless. Just make sure it ain’t Jin Guangyao cuz bestie I’d fucking dip. Take my ass on the nearest sword flight out of there

But I was wondering if you could do a Wei Ying X Lan Zhan where Wei Ying is getting bullied by some people and saying really hurtful things and some of the things actually hurt Wei Ying. He starts blaming himself and feeling guilty closing off for anyone. He avoids Lan Zhan because he doesn’t want to burden or bothering him. But when Lan Zhan walks into Wei Ying getting bullied he becomes all possessive and protective of him? Again no rush and by no means you have to but thank you. Also sorry again if I didn’t do the request the right way.

Don’t worry you requested just fine! The only thing is I don’t tend to do character x character so I’ll add x reader too, hope you don’t mind! 

Starting off, I do see WWX being bullied a lot. I mean, after everything they see him at fault for many things. Things are going great, he has LWJ and they both have you. He’s doing his own thing, maybe in town shopping and looking at things to gift you. That’s when he hears comments here and there, how if he never existed then Yanli and Zixuan would still be alive. JIn Ling would actually have parents had it not been for WWX. The death of Jiang Fengmian and Madam Yu? Everyone would talk about how it’s WWX fault, yeah it’s a common occurrence that people talk about those instances in the series to hurt him, but it still hurts. I kin WWX mostly due to these reasons, we talk, laugh and brush it off but the idea that we’re at fault linger. That same day, he goes on with what he came or he simply returns home and states, “there simply wasn’t anything worth giving”. There, LWJ knows something is wrong and after being in their life? Yeah, something happened with WWX. When it comes to outside folk, why bother on them? It hurts more when WWX is walking by Cloud Recesses and one of the Lan disciples say something. Luckily LWJ is nearby and hears, a simple glare to them and they shut up real quick. They’ll know better than to speak about that topic ever again. He gets the idea pretty quickly, after everything that has happened things will never be the same. Even though Jiang Cheng doesn’t hate WWX anymore since he knows the truth, the damage is already present. All they really have left is to move on, if they want to bond once more by all means they can, I just things are too awkward to at the moment. His family is dead and even though he can finally rest and live a decent life again, it’s not like he can fully block what’s been done or said. With that in mind, LWJ and you decide to talk to him about it. Don’t talk outright but bring it up after a bit, in a calm setting explain your true feelings about him and the situation. After the conversation, you’ll agree to go out with WWX more often and the moment you hear anything you’ll turn around and tell the people on the street to move on. Give them your piece of mind, while WWX may have conflicted feelings at first he’d feel reassured that you care for him just as much as he and LWJ do. LWJ without a doubt would show his feelings in a more subtle form. He’d ensure his duties are all completed and would treat the two of you to dinner. Small talk here and there, but the main thing is that he’d make you both feel at home. As if this is what should be done, this is how things should be. All three deeply in love (that is if you aren’t still fighting cuz then it’s only 2 deeply in love with each other and you) with their whole lives ahead of them.

WWX the OG goth so don't worry, they won't find it too weird. If you come from a world where cultivation isn't a thing, then they'll be in for a surprise. The Lan clan would without a doubt be confused and probably not approve, how indecent! Cover up! How can you wear that? They'd probably think you're a ghost and try to exorcise you tbh. But I think that between the two, WWX and LWJ, they'd love and cherish you no matter what. Like I mentioned before, WWX is the OG goth. Not only does he wear a lot of black and dark clothes, but he would probably be hella into it. He'd ask you for tips on how to style either ALT/Emo/Goth fashion and without a doubt he'd enjoy it. LWJ might be a bit confused on the fashion but he'd support it. He'd try his best to support you two and his face would light up with a smile when he sees you playing around with WWX hair. His heart swells when he sees WWX laugh and smile with you, helping you accessorize and piece together a fit. LWJ would glare at anyone who threatens these moments and anyone who has anything to say about you guys. He'd compliment your outfits and fashion. It's one of the things that makes you unique that he loves!

Of course there are different timelines, one where he is known as Yuan and is like 4 or when he is Sizhui and is a cultivator. Either or, when I started to see Sizhui I lowkey joked that it was Yuan and when it turned out to be him I was like bruh. ANYWAYS, it was such a sweet moment especially when they played for a little bit before Wen Ning and Sizhui departed together I was sobbing bro. 

When he was Yuan, I see WWX’s darling being so sweet to him. If they are part of the Wen clan that sought refuge with him or another cultivator that took his side it doesn’t matter. What matters now is that he is just swooning over you spoon-feeding Yuan. Sure, he can feed himself but you’re gladly doing it for him. Playing around and picking him up and brushing off the dirt. Holding his hand in public or when WWX and you go into town for necessities and you guys both hold his hand and kinda swing him across (PLS THIS IS SO SOFT). When WWX scolds him a little and he comes running to you, you’d spoil him and tell him that WWX is at fault while he is standing there offended. Reading him books and playing around with him. When he is a cultivator, depending on the route we want to go. You were captured, punished, revived, etc. He would look up to you a lot, you’re just so kind and caring that he can’t help but be reminded of a certain someone who took care of him in childhood. Smiling softly at him when he tries to correct a mistake or assisting others. Spoiling him he most among the other juniors, guiding them in their path to becoming cultivators and clan leaders. Treating them out to eat but also not being afraid to scold them for acting so reckless and not thinking before storming into danger. WWX would only smile, you certainly haven’t changed and he knows that if he ever wanted another child you’d be a great partner along with Lan Wanji because I’ve decided to kinda make this a poly relationship because I didn’t want to break wangxian :(. I can see Wangxian trying to find a set of rules that you can follow, like following your heart and instinct. Helping you get your morals in check and telling the rest of the Lan Clan that you *technically* can be considered part of them. I can see there probably being a dilemma, do you want to take on the Demonic Path or if you want to take on the Spiritual path. Granted I think it’s a given that you’d probably take on the spiritual path but considering how LWJ and WWX have similar opinions on both, they’d be okay with whatever. Granted demonic cultivation doesn’t require a golden core so they’d suggest the normal spiritual path. Granted if you do want to indulge in the Demonic arts they’d probably get a bit worried, but would try to somehow make it happen. I know for a fact that they’d let you pick out a specific color scheme that you’d own as a cultivator. They’d support and help you pick out a name for you sword, they’d gladly take you out on mission and would be there to help you no matter what. They have each other’s back but now with you? You all have each other’s back. Granted if a ghost or a monster comes after you, well they’ll be furious. Angry as hell as they exorcise that spirt in the most cruel ways, but not as cruel as they’d torture any other cultivators if they dare judge you. I can see it, some other cultivator would judge your fashion, style, martial arts, your path, etc. Never WWX or LWJ, those two will cheer you from the sidelines and protect you, always.

Two hundred and seven.

There were two hundred and seven candles within the confines of the Yiling Patriarch’s palace and they did nothing to mask the dull, pervasive stench of rotting corpses and blood. The scent had become so commonplace it was almost laughable rather than disgusting, and yet, your stomach twisted every time he pulled you close, for the scent of fresh air and newly-harvested crops clung to his clothes as if to specifically mock you. You’d cling to him during these rare occasions where he desired nothing more than a hug, his scent offering a momentary respite from the paranoia and loneliness.

“Xian...how much longer must I stay here?” You mumbled into his shoulder, soothed by the earthly scent of his hair and skin. “I...” You desired nothing more than to go outside, leave this place behind for a few hours and enjoy what little light found its way into the Burial Mounds. You desired to see the faces of your friends so dearly you almost said it out loud; you felt a pang of disgust wash over you. You couldn’t leave. He needed you here, he needed to know that you were safe at all times. Locking you away was the only way to ensure that. He always told you that -- how could you be so selfish as to forget?

He looks at you with a momentary confusion, but doesn’t ask you to finish your thought. You were relieved to see his expression soften, becoming almost unbearably vulnerable. “I don’t know yet.” He whispered, ashamed. His voice seemed to grow more distant and more aching with each passing day. He was falling apart before your eyes, piece by piece, and you could do nothing but watch. It was numbing, the days you’d spend isolated from a world which hated the Yiling Patriach, hidden from the Wen remnants who revered him, hidden because he could not bear to lose you too. 

“You don’t like it here?” He smiles sadly. “I thought I made it pretty comfy for you.”

“I-it is, and I do like it here! I do, but I just...” You stuttered, feeling him shift in the embrace. “I just...m-miss everyone.”

And by all the gods, you missed the boy you used to know. You missed the man he was before this calamity, you missed your clan, you missed Cheng and Yanli so much you swore you heard their voices when Wuxian left you by yourself. The Wen remnants, not even Qing or Ning, were allowed to speak with you unless absolutely necessary. It was truly lonely, and yet, it was nowhere close to the loneliness he felt. You were his sanctuary. You were one of the few who truly believed in him, who saw past his reputation and saw him for the scared boy he was. 

He was justice, and justice had never been lonelier. The least you can do is love the man he’d become.

“I know.” His smile held a nostalgic tenderness, fragile and wrought with months of self-hatred and self-doubt; you reached out to touch his face before you could stop yourself. To your surprise, he let you hand stay cupped around his cheek, allowing himself the luxury of enjoying your warm presence for a few moments.  He hummed softly when you rubbed his head, a familiar hum on your lips. “I’ll make it up to you someday... You don’t hate me for this, do you?”

The question sounded so broken you’d wondered if you heard it right, but the desperation on his face was enough to make your heart hammer. You were quick to shake your head, appalled by the very thought of hating this man of all people. “You are my lover, my savior, and my soulmate. I could never hate you, Xian.”

It’s been so long since he’s cried, holding you so close yet so gently -- as if you might break; you found yourself crying with him, your sobs breaking the silence of a place you’d come to call home.
