Naruto Modern AUs

Modern AUs of Naruto plague my brain.

Mafia? Every Clan is a mafia family and civilians are police. Uzumaki were destroyed via Gang War. The Sabaku siblings are part of a different mafia family based in another city. The Hokage is the DA of police/military.

High School? Rich kid school that only accept Naruto (orphan, has terrible grades) because his uber wealthy mother (again, Clans = Old Money) put it in her will. Her family founded Konoha High? You're going to deny that? Sakura's parents spend a lot of money to ensure she gets the best education and she's on a partial scholarship.

Similar thing with University aus that keep me up at night, although those are easier to handle. Personally.

Flower shop is exclusively the Yamanaka Clans. Sorry, I don't make the rules and it's usually tied in with the Mafia somehow.

Spies is a weird one where they're trying to prevent a number of issues but the information broker will always be Yamanaka Ino.

You barely heard the rest, your heart pounding for reasons you didn’t understand. When his eye met yours again, it lingered. It wasn’t just him looking at you—you could feel something, faint but undeniable, like recognition. Kakashi felt it too, though he masked it well.

“Any questions?” he asked. No one spoke. He hesitated briefly, then added, “You don’t have to be perfect. Just willing.”

His gaze locked onto you again. You hadn’t realized your nails were digging into your arm until he spoke directly to you. His gaze didn’t waver, and for the first time in years, someone was waiting for an answer—not a mission, not a kill order, just an answer.

“What’s your name?” Your throat tightened. Danzo’s ANBU didn’t have names.

“I—” you started, voice breaking “It doesn’t matter”

“It matters,” Kakashi said softly, his tone meant only for you. “If it didn’t, you wouldn’t be here.”Something in his voice broke through your defenses, but you barely understood why.

“I’ll fight,” you said, shaky but determined.

His eye softened as he nodded. “That’s all I needed to hear.”

He turned away when someone else spoke up, but the moment lingered. You felt his gaze on you again, quieter now, almost searching.

“We all have something to prove,” he said, almost to himself, but his words clung to you like a mark.

You didn’t know what he’d seen in you. And you weren’t sure which scared you more—that he saw you, or that you felt drawn to him, even now.

The war had ended, but its echoes still lingered in Konoha. Lives were rebuilt, alliances strengthened, but scars—both seen and unseen—remained. Kakashi had taken on the mantle of Hokage, stepping into the light as the leader of the village. You and the remaining ANBU were reassigned to serve under him, remnants of shadows that had once moved for Danzo.

Your interactions with him were professional, minimal, and always masked. Yet, there was something about the way Kakashi spoke to you during briefings or in passing. A subtle attention in his words, the way his gaze lingered when he spoke to you directly. He didn’t know who you were under the porcelain, but you could tell he remember you, the rhythm of your speech. It set you apart in his mind, though you doubted he fully realized it yet.

Kakashi wasn’t the figure of legend to you—the "Copy Ninja" or the "Child of the Leaf." You saw him as something else: human. A man who carried burdens heavier than most and rarely let anyone see how much they weighed him down. And that… that seemed to intrigue him. The subtle moments between you were fleeting, but they were there. A pause in his words when you answered, his brow shifting almost imperceptibly when you offered a thought during a strategy meeting. You didn’t think he noticed these things, but you did. Still, you kept your distance. The mask wasn’t just a necessity—it was a shield.

Weeks later, word came of an urgent intelligence-gathering mission requiring Kakashi’s direct involvement. ANBU was to assist, but when you heard the details, you froze. Your unique telepathic ability made you the best fit to support him, but you had no intention of volunteering. The others knew better.

“She’s perfect for the job,” one of your teammates said, breaking the silence during the briefing.

You shot him a sharp look beneath your mask, but Kakashi tilted his head, intrigued. “Is that so?”

Your voice betrayed none of the turmoil inside as you replied. “I’m sure there are others better suited, Lord Sixth.”

His single visible eye regarded you with quiet scrutiny, his tone lighter than expected. “If they were, your team wouldn’t have volunteered you.”

His response left no room for argument. You had no choice but to agree, though tension tightened in your chest.

Later, as the mission drew closer, doubts plagued you. Danzo’s voice still echoed in the back of your mind, his shadow twisting your thoughts. You didn’t deserve to stand so close to Konoha’s light. Not after what you’d done.

But Kakashi, perceptive as always, seemed to notice your hesitation. Before you departed, he approached you, his tone relaxed but steady.

“You don’t think you belong here, do you?” he said, his words catching you off guard.

You said nothing, and after a moment, he continued, a small smile tugging at his lips.

“Who better to protect the light than someone who’s lived in the shadow?” His words cut deeper than you expected, but there was no judgment in them. Only understanding.

The mission was fraught with danger. Kakashi, as sharp and composed as ever, relied heavily on his Kamui ability to navigate critical moments. Despite the odds, he’d retained his Sharingan after the war, a secret few knew. You’d learned of it during a previous briefing, your sharp mind piecing together details others had missed.

When the time came, you didn’t hesitate to use your telepathy.

Kakashi, wait. There’s a trap ahead. Two meters to your left.

His body tensed at the sudden intrusion in his mind. You’d expected as much—he hadn’t been briefed on the specifics of your abilities. Kakashi’s steps faltered for just a moment. The voice in his head wasn’t his own, yet it felt oddly familiar. His muscles tensed, instincts screaming at him to trace the source.

He responded quickly, but even as he shifted left, avoiding the trap, his thoughts lingered.

Who the hell…? But he adapted almost instantly, shifting his position without hesitation.

‘You might’ve warned me you could do that’, he thought, his mental voice sharper than his usual tone, despite the fact that he don’t exactly know to who is speaking.

‘Would you have believed me?’ you replied.

A brief pause. Then, the faintest hint of amusement in his response. ‘Fair point’

The telepathic connection became seamless after that. You guided him through the mission, your words precise and calm, though his curiosity about you grew with each interaction.

At one point, he paused in the middle of the operation, his mind brushing against yours as he spoke telepathically.

´Your voice… It’s familiar. Have we speak before?´

Your chest tightened, but you masked your thoughts carefully. ‘We’ve met in passing, Hokage Kakashi.´

He didn’t press further, but you felt his curiosity linger.

Kakashi stepped into the room, his tired gaze scanning the group before landing on you. The mission had been long, and the weight of it was clear in his posture, but there was something about your presence—calm, unwavering—that seemed to ground him.

"Anything you need, Y/N?" Kakashi asked, his voice a little softer, like he could tell you were holding something back.

You paused, not expecting him to single you out. "I... I need the details from the mission. The full report," you said, trying to keep it professional.

Kakashi nodded and moved closer, handing you the necessary scrolls. As he did, he couldn’t help but study you. There was something in the way you responded—calm, collected, and yet distant. It reminded him of the voice from the mission, the one that had guided him with such precision.

The thought lingered in his mind as you unrolled the scroll, your hands steady but your eyes focused on the contents, as if you were searching for something. Kakashi’s gaze shifted, and the faintest recognition flickered in his eye.

The only thing Sai is confident in is his gift giving skills. He loves to draw art for you, pretty much everything he sees inspires more art to give you. It's gotten to the point that you have a whole room filled with them (Sai keeps telling you it's okay to get rid of some, but you refuse! They are so pretty!). On special occassions, Sai loves to bring his drawings for you to life, enjoying the look of amazement on your face

Ino Yamanaka - Gift Giving

This girl is gonna treat you RIGHT, believe that! She's is incredibly open with her feelings, especially when it comes to flowers. You will be getting flowers for every occassion, sometimes just randomly. She'll buy you other gifts like jewelry and clothes and books, but her real love language is flowers. Her bouquets aren't just randomly put together either, Ino carefully hand picks each one and take in mind the meaning of each one. The longer you date you will soon learn the different meanings, which makes her so proud. Although she doesn't really expect anything back every time, make sure to get her a lil something for special occassions, she'll appreciate it~

Shikamaru Nara - Quality Time

We know Shikamaru is a lazy bitch, but that's what we love about him! He may seem distant and seemingly uncaring, but if you look closely you can clearly see how he shows affection. Sure he may not wash you with praises or get you expensive things, but he stays by your side. Always. Somehow he always is in the same room as you, even if you are doing two different things. You're always together in some sort. He'll definitely deny it, but you notice he doesn't leave still. It's kind of like a cat, ya know? Shikamaru gets especially clingy when you're in bed together. This man doesn't get up for hours, and you aren't getting up either. You will lay and sleep with him for 3 more hours, no discussion

Choji Akimichi - Acts of Service

Just... just so sweet. My boy is such a sweetie oh my god. Choji is quite nervous in your relationship, both due to low self-esteem and just anxiety in general. Just you surprising him with a hug is enough to fluster him for a solid minute. Since more direct ways get him anxious, Choji prefers to do things for you, and his favorite thing is to cook for you. This man can COOK like no one's business! You guys will go out to eat on the weekends (there is nothing like fresh barbecue), but through the week he is in the kitchen cooking your favorite meals full of love. Seeing your giant smile and hearing your satisifed eating makes his heart soar. Also, you are one of the only people who he'll always share his snacks with, no hesitation (the other is Shikamaru, obviously)

Kiba Inuzuka - Physical Touch

Kiba is a toucher, hands down. He LOVES to just touch you all over. He is always in contact with you no matter what, appropriate or otherwise. Hands on your waist, head on your shoulder, fingers in your hair, sometimes he will just randomly pick you up to get a reaction out of you. Let's be real, Kiba's a dog through and through, and dogs adore attention. Whenever he wants your attention or love, Kiba will poke you and bug you until you give in and cuddle with him. Spooning is his absolute favorite position. Give this man his head pats and belly rubs god dammit, and don't forget Akamaru!. Oh and uh, warning, this man is also perverted. Quite perverted. Your cuddle sessions will devolve into him dry humping you 50% of the time. You gonna get manhandled and groped quite a bit (every touch full of love <3)

Hinata Hyuga - Words of Affirmation

You thought Choji was shy? You haven't seen nothing yet. Hinata was already a sweating mess when you were just friends, the moment you asked her out she literally fainted and collapsed on the floor. Thankfully she is better now (and didn't get brain damage), but it's still nerve-wracking to be in a relationship with you. You're just so... perfect. And Hinata wants you to know that. Throughout the day she is normally very sweet and appreciative, but whenever you are on dates or cuddling in private, she lets all her feelings out. She shares her admiration for you, her appreciation for you, and just how happy she is to have you in her life. It always makes you cry, which makes Hinata feel bad, but you always assure her they are happy tears

Shino Aburame - Acts of Service

Shino is a man of little words, and you knew that going into a relationship, so you have no issues with that! It makes the times he does speak up mean even more. Since he's inexperienced with relationships and romantic gestures, Shino's main way to show he cares is by protecting you and keeping you safe. He always is ready to defend you in public, and whenever you go somewhere alone he gives you one of his bugs so he can know you're safe. Anyone who even tries to harass or injure you is getting shot down immedietely. Losing you or you getting hurt is one of his biggest fears, and he'll never let that happen. Rock Lee - All of Them

You can call this a cop out, but let's be real, Lee is the embodiment of EVERY love language. He never stops gushing to you about your beauty and skills, and screams how much he loves you from the rooftops. Anything you ask him to do will be done in record time perfectly. He loves to give you extravagent gifts for your anniversaries and random occasions. Spending time with you is his favorite thing in the world, especially when you train together. And physical touch? He is always happy to hug and kiss you all over. Lee is just full of love for you!! He knows he can be a bit overwhelming at times and will calm down if you tell him. He just is so grateful to have you in his life, and wants you to know that every day for the rest of your life

Neji Hyuga - Words of Affirmation

It may come as a shock to most due to his sharp tongue, but the way Neji shows his love is by words. To most he is aggressive and stand-offish, and ocassionally is to you too. It's just how he is unfortunately. But unlike with others, he is noticabely incredibly soft with you and is much more open. Neji isn't afraid to compliment how you look or give praise when you succeed at something. Even when he gets annoyed he doesn't raise his voice or throw insults at you, he stays respectful. The fact that he calls everyone an idiot except you says a whoooole lot about how he feels about you. Wear that honor with pride

Tenten - Quality Time

Tenten is pretty easy going and prefers a partner who is the same. Of course some spice and excitement is greatly welcomed, but at the end of the day she just wants to sit back and relax with her partner. So spending time together means a lot to her. She loves going on dates where you guys try something new (just no long hikes, please) but if needed will default to the local weapon museum. By the way, everytime one of you has to go on a mission, Tenten will act cool but will secretly pout the whole time until you meet up again

Gaara - Physical Touch

As he's grown, Gaara has turned into a real sweetheart. With you he is incredibly gentle and cares for you deeply. You are his treasure, you deserve the world. He still is dealing with social anxiety, and can be a bit awkward sometimes. But Gaara is always comfortable touching and holding you. His touches are gentle and kind, and sensual when he wants. He likes to give gentle kisses all over you throughout the day, and whenever he leaves for work he gives you a loving kiss before he leaves. Gaara also really values cuddling together. This man is touch starved like no one else, everytime you hold eachother he feels like a part of him is healing. Please reciprocate, he deserves it

Temari - Words of Affirmation

Temari is fiery as hell, and you knew that the moment you met. And her words are just as sharp! She isn't afraid to tell off people who annoy you guys (especially when you are on dates, they are DEAD). With you she is still mildly aggressive and intense, but in a more lighthearted way. She just gets so worried about you, she can't help herself from scolding you for being an idiot. Every word she says (positive or negative) comes from the heart. When you manage to not be a fool Temari is vocalising her approval and pride. Oh, and she has a habit of openly bragging about how amazing you are to your peers (much to your embarrassment)

Kankuro - Quality Time

This man is a teeeeeease (in a good way or bad way, your decision). He is constantly joking and making fun of you, reveling in your cute annoyance. He even likes to annoy you physically like blowing on your neck or pinching your butt. Kankuro is quite playful pretty much 95% of the time, but the other 5% he's actually quite sweet. Spending time with you is his favorite thing in the world! Yeah it's fun messing with you, but he likes to just have genuine connections and going on more mature dates. His favorite thing is dancing surprisingly, and he honestly is quite good. Holding you close and swaying makes him content ... Until he sneaks in one of his puppets halfway through, scaring the shit out of you in the process (he slept on the couch but it was worth it)

Do you see a future where we can give a trans person a shot and have their body start making the correct sex hormones (eg testes change to make E, or ovaries change to make T)? How far off? What things need to be accomplished to achieve it, and what tools do we already have?

Disclaimer that none of this is gonna be all that scientifically robust, the terms used are gonna be descriptive rather than technical, and that I'm just woke up and these are the ravings of a woman gone mad.

A single shot is ambitious, but I could see a course of several months or a couple years that, after those several months, lasts a lifetime.

How far off? I mean, wildly dependent on funding and focus. Unfortunately, nothing related to trans healthcare is gonna see a serious push I would think. With an actual, serious push, I would give it a few decades of research (if that)(this is blisteringly fast btw) until it's punted over to the FDA. At that point it's outside of my knowledge to know how far things would move forward.

But honestly, it's part politics, part luck of the draw on what people research and push forward. Might happen in our lifetime, but don't hold your breath. Research is grindingly slow.

This is mostly based around the possibility of inducing transdifferentiation. Tldr:

-stem cells are exciting bc they can become any cell type. They haven't "locked in" their cell fate yet.

-most research on cellular differentiation centers around deprogrammed differentiated cells, reverting them to stem cells, and then reprogramming them into something else. The deprogramming is actually well studied (shoutout Yamanaka factors) but I don't see something like this reaching a medicinal, in vivo use soon.

-in extremely rare and induced cases, however, you can force a fully differentiated cell type to become another fully differentiated cell type *without* that intermediate. This is likely way easier to pull off in vivo, even though the initial molecular triggers are much, much rarer and more difficult to study.

Which brings us to the two theoretical dots that we can use here: prostatic metioplasias as a result of testosterone (for transmascs) and the role of DMRT1 for transfemmes.

Broad tldr of each of these points:

-there was a study that studied vaginal lining of transmascs who had been on T for several years and gotten hysterectomies. They found some prostate tissue intercalating the vagina.

-removal of a particular gene (DMRT1) allowed testes to slowly become ovarian tissue and produce estrogens. This gene is responsible for maintaining testes cell fate- keeping the lock, locked.

Neither of these provides a direct basis for actual medication. They show avenues for what will work, however. What's necessary here is to understand the upstream signals that control the expression of genes like DMRT1, which can then be exploited to force expression or stop expression in vivo, in a human.

Basically, the way transdifferentiation would work here is blasting the appropriate cells with enough of these signals, over enough time to ensure that everything actually undergoes TD, to reprogram everything you want to reprogram.

(yes, I know about the crispr transfemme who targeted DMRT1. No, I don't think that's real. I've posted about that before.)

The fandom negativity around trial three while understandable is really ruining everything that's been built up so far. Behaving as though things suddenly got magically worse trial three when several people were physically assaulted and mentally tortured due to the verdicts between trial one and two is wild to me. this guy’s the reigning king of shitposting. he’s got a knack for calling out anything he deems “overrated,” and he doesn’t hold back. his feed is a never-ending stream of complaints about everything from minor inconveniences to full-blown disasters. you might see posts about how his ramen was too hot or things like pineapple on pizza. he’s the kind of troll who wouldn’t hesitate to pick a fight with kids on roblox, turning every argument into a battle that leaves them in tears and scrambling to save face (konohamaru). he would also be the type to start internet beefs over the most mundane things. if you’re ever scrolling through your feed and see a heated argument about why a certain trend is lame, chances are he is behind it.

haruno sakura

the feminist and activist extraordinaire! she’s the type of woman who not only supports human rights in every way possible but also cheers on the LGBTQ+ community with gusto—because, spoiler alert, she’s part of it. she’s someone who’s fully aware of the impact social media can have and is determined to use it to amplify her voice and make a real difference. i also think she has multiple social media accounts like a pro—there’s her private twitter account where she rants about how messed up the government is, her ao3 account where she writes fan fiction with a side of social commentary, and of course, her tumblr where she’s a curator of memes, political discourse, and everything in between. god, bruh. this dude is basically a social media ghost—he hardly ever posts anything, but when he does, it’s like the internet has just won the lottery. he’s that guy who seems to do absolutely nothing yet somehow manages to grab everyone’s attention. he’s not really into posting on social media, but when he does, it’s always so aesthetically pleasing that you’d think he has a personal stylist and a professional photographer on speed dial. he doesn’t even try to make his posts look good; he just rolls out of bed and somehow manages to be effortlessly cool. man could post a picture of his breakfast and it would still get more likes than your entire feed.

nara shikamaru

this lazy ass (me) would probably end up being a streamer, posting about his win streaks and achievements in every game he plays. despite barely lifting a finger to do anything else, he’d be all over social media, bragging about every victory and high score. he’s the kind of guy who’d stream his gaming marathons from the comfort of his bed, racking up followers while casually lounging around in sweatpants. If there’s a leaderboard, you can bet he’s at the top, and he’s not shy about letting everyone know it.

yamanaka ino

girlie is the famous influencer! she’s always buzzing with posts about the latest fashion trends, beauty tips, and social events. like, you know, the kind of Instagram girlie who’s always flaunting her ootd and setting style standards. she’s practically a fashion icon with every outfit she wears. she’s also the type to post inspirational messages like “wear whatever makes you feel good” or “your body, your choice.” she’s incredibly popular across all her social media platforms and has a tiktok account—she’s all about those thirst traps and dance covers.

akimichi choji

my boi would definitely be the type to either watch mukbangs obsessively or become a mukbanger himself. he’d spend hours trying to replicate recipes he’s seen online, turning his kitchen into a culinary experiment zone. and you can bet he’d be posting all about it—sharing his attempts, successes, and occasional fails. his feed would be full of mouthwatering food shots and videos of him devouring his creations, proving that he’s just as passionate about cooking and eating as he is about sharing it with the world.

hyuga neji

this dude, much like sasuke, is totally indifferent to social media. he doesn’t bother with frequent posts but when he does, they’re thoughtful and deliberate. you might see him sharing reflections on life, articles he’s stumbled upon, or insightful news about everyday occurrences. he avoids jumping into pointless online drama or trends, yet somehow, he’s always clued in. that’s thanks to lee and tenten, who can’t stop talking about the latest gossip and social media happenings. despite his apparent disinterest, he picks up on all the chatter and remains surprisingly well-informed about the buzz. so, even though he’s a low-key user, he’s never completely out of the loop.

inuzuka kiba

his socials would be about random rants and memes. he’d post exaggerated complaints about the most trivial matters. his feed would be a fucking mess of humorous and offbeat content—think sarcastic comments, goofy polls, and plenty of memes featuring akamaru. he’d frequently stir up controversies, posting impulsively and diving headfirst into debates. his online presence would be a whirlwind of arguments, especially with naruto, where they often argue over who’s the dumbest between them.

hyuga hinata

she’s the type to be a crocheter, the kind you see on tiktok with an account just for her yarn creations. her feed would be packed with posts showcasing her latest crocheting projects—everything from cozy blankets and stylish scarves to adorable amigurumi (crocheted plush toys). she’d share detailed photos and videos of her work. her account would also feature tutorials and tips for fellow crocheters, helping them improve their skills. she might post about her extensive yarn collection, offer free patterns, and give followers a peek into her crafting process. whether she’s showing off her latest masterpiece or sharing a behind-the-scenes look at her studio, her feed would be a inspiring hub for all things crochet.

aburame shino

the random entomologist on your feed. he would be all about his shit for insects and the natural world. his posts would feature photos of various bugs, often accompanied by educational captions about their behavior, ecology, and characteristics. his feed would include updates from his fieldwork, observations on insect behavior, and informative posts about conservation efforts. while he might occasionally share glimpses of his other interests or hobbies, the focus would remain firmly on nature and entomology. whether he’s showcasing a rare beetle he’s spotted or sharing insights on preserving insect habitats, his content would be a treasure trove of knowledge for fellow nature enthusiasts.

I feel like milgram fans often have this need of pathologize(?) every little trait and behavior from the characters and like, while a lot of the times it's warranted, sometimes people forget the actual circumstances they're in

I think its harder for us to read, for example, some of Futa and Mu's behaviours in t2 and t3 (respectively) as traits of Narcissistic Personality Disorder when their circumstances condition them to limited types of reaction. Picture yourself in their shoes for a moment; You were taken by some form of magical prison that makes no sense, they say they'll judge you and your actions. You definitely did something, but you're rightfully scared because this isn't regular prison or how any country's justice system functions. You deny, or heavily justify yourself, because you don't think you should be judged this harshly— Although, the guard sees right through it, so you kinda move on for now, afraid of what's to come. Then, all of the sudden, you hear VOICES. You dont know whether they're real (and later learn your inmates hear them, too, but you dont all hear the same things. So it still feels isolating) and they're driving you crazy. It's like your guilt, that little voice in your head telling you what you did wrong all day, now was LOUD and REAL and UNAVOIDABLE. But that's not all! Pick your poison: You get beat up to the point of BLINDNESS and fractured ribs, with minimal medical attention because you are in PRISON, along to an inmate that almost DIED, or you get completely TIED UP from hands and feet in uncomfortable positions and get a dangerous device put over your head and also your friend DIED in front of you.

Is their anger, their blame shifting towards Es, really all that unjustifiable that it has to have an explanation through a disorder? This isn't about them denying their crimes when they weren't all that affected— That, I get. I see traits of BPD in both, as well, and I'm sure people have more reasons than this to read them as NPD. But not everything they do will 100% have to be explained through traits from any disorder, because their circumstances are not normal. Their reactions are proportional to the stress, fear and pain they are put under.

Another example from a different media: Powder, from Arcane. She clearly shows symptoms of a developing BPD in childhood because of her circumstances, which are realistic. We see a scene of her crying, screaming, throwing things around— From her sister saying she needs to go on a mission and can't take her. Although us as the viewer know it was a big deal, Powder doesn't, so this scene can very fairly be used as an exaample of Powder showing BPD symptoms from perceived abandonment from Vi even if shd was gonna come back. But then we have another scene of her having a similar reaction, crying and screaming— After she blows up a whole building with a magical orb bomb and her whole family dies. This scene isn't her showing symptoms of a disorder (although there are some bits and pieces that could point to it, the overall behaviour here is a direct consequence of an event), this scene is the TRAUMA that further affects her psyche and her reaction to it is one any child would have. Do we see my point?

This isn't to come after anyone's analysis or headcanons! Again, I read Futa as a borderline, and have my reasons both with canon basis and for comfort. And it's totally fine! I also dont think Yamanaka wrote these characters with an specific disorder in mind— And do consider, some traits may overlap across disorders. I am making this post because I think this can quickly turn into heavily scrutinizing these characters, who are frankly victims of their CURRENT situation, and taking weight off the genuinely scarring events they've experienced because of MILGRAM.

In a way, this is also part of the project though, isn't it? Getting so caught up in analysis of their behavior and putting names and words onto their traits, that we ignore the abuse they are going through. Specially with the stigma surrounding Cluster B disorders(in this case. Lets not even get into characters like John), people may not realize that in assigning symptoms and traits in the DSM-5 to these character's very natural reaction to their very intense circumstances, we are playing a vary dangerous game that can fall really quick into victim blaming. I bring this up because Futa and Mu are quick to be labeled as unforgivable and any attempt from them at gaining sympathy is immediately labeled with big therapy talk words, and it is just not fair. We are not in real jury duty, we are seeing a group of people be abused and tortured because some higher force decided they were sinners... heyyy this happened before

I like your take, but I will say that while many fragmented personality states do not experiences discrete differences, some brains do. Yes it seems "performative" but sometimes brains do that becauae drastically different behavior/views are sometimes required for survival. It's as annoying for the person experiencing it as the person witnessing such a "switch" irl, because both parties are thinking "this seems totally fake."

The whole thing the brain is doing is convincing itself that the thing it is experiencing isn't actually real. Most people don't have distinct parts because the opposite is necessary. However, sometimes parts are extremely distinct because it is necessary.

How this manifests in 09 is completely up to the viewer so your interpretation is completely understandable and valid. However, do understand that overt symptoms don't make someone a sideshow freak. A lot of people carry that sentiment, but it's not true. It's not something that doesn't happen, it's hidden because it scares people.

The language we use to discuss these things is very valuable, and your input is deeply important and well-put. The language many communities use to discuss these things is unhelpful, and catering your discussion experience how you like is great. Still, no one who is truly expressing symptoms like "stereotypical" DID is enjoying their brain's performance. We hope more people can understand that, too.

i think there's some misunderstanding here. analyzing the overarching systems in place that developed Mikoto Kayano in all his complexities isn't casting aside his differences, it's - instead - focusing on what caused X or Y etc. to manifest in Mikoto (which ofc includes whatever caused Z-difference to manifest); analyzing the macrofactors of the world that molds its inhabitants rather than analyzing the expressions of the microworld within a single human being. if you need an analogy, think of anthropology vs psychoanalysis: one is the study of a group of people/community and the other is the intimate study of a single person — patterns within many vs singular expression of individualism. once more, i really could not give a single modicum of fuck about how Mikoto expresses himself, freely or not. i care more about the Cause-Effect in the Cause-Effect-Response continuum when it comes to analyses. everyone's free to focus and approach analyses from whichever angle they choose to, i just happen to like thinking about the more overall structure of things - the panopticon of society itself and its effects en masse rather than the individuals. if you know the foundations of what causes something, it's more effective in changing more things - the structure of things - ergo affecting more people for better or for worse. genuinely if you want to analyze 09 and his psychology, by all means you've always been able to. all i'm yapping about on this account is wanting to see other topics of conversation about him- discussions that aren't just focused on MILGRAM's unethical abductive-reasoning diagnosis of the DID of Mikoto Kayano. i'm all for expanding discussion, not stopping or limiting them lol. and if prohibiting a few words makes it so people have to think and come up with their own ways to phrase things, it would expand the diversity of conceptualizations, understandings, and perspectives all because of phrasing things differently- all because you place yourself in the variety of lenses that gives meaning to the world that different words offer through its usage.

i can understand the frustration of the symptoms of a stigmatized disorder being seen as a "circus performance" and displaying overt symptoms being seen as "freaky" since that's just dehumanizing but there are ways to help destigmatize it. one of many ways is figuring out the language that stigmatizes or destigmatizes because meaning, thus image/stigma/preconceptions/nuance, is constructed in language. it's one of the basal instruments that is actively perpetuating or changing the current mores of thought, thus philosophies, thus people through its usage that is as essential as breathing. why do you think some people have a notion that a disorder like DID is "circus"-adjacent or "freak"-adjacent if not because of the language used to talk about it? words have nuances and if enough of those words-with-nuances surround a community enough, become embedded with it, it affects how its speech community members and outsiders/most of the population will understand it. now, how do you deconstruct stigma in language? (1) be critical of existing language; (2) educating and making speakers understand the meanings embedded in what they say; (3) once that's achieved, it's up to those persons to choose what to do with that further insight and if they'll be more deliberate in how they say things. this can apply to the individual or a/the community that's affected that deliberates what they will do with that language and how it's be approached and transformed to their will. language is a living, communal and mutual instrument that requires the effort of many individuals within the speech community to exist. language isn't static nor are thoughts nor people. things can change for the worst or better.

On your grocery trip, you and Itachi were about to reach for the same tomato and Sasuke was behind him? You smoothly turned your hand to reach for the closest vegetable beside the tomatoes and quickly payed for the goods without making eye contact with either Uchiha and skedaddled. You might be eating your most disliked vegetable for dinner, but nothing tastes more delicious than avoiding canon.

You leisurely walked through Konoha’s streets, celebrating your clean record of six years by eating your favorite candy. Last year, you had sakura mochi.

Keeping this streak will be easy as pie! You and your new family will definitely die from old age. Accidents? No, you only see yourself dying wrinkly and content!

They were laughing. Laughter was supposed to sound innocent, free, and represent joy. But it wasn’t.

It was mocking. Sadistic. With the intent to hurt. This was the type of sound you’d never expect to come out from a kid’s mouth.

This wasn’t the first time you’ve seen Naruto getting bullied. From adults, teenagers, and kids the same age as you and him— they can be very horrible and cruel to someone more helpless and vulnerable than them. Even with the Nine-Tails in him, the current Naruto doesn’t fight back against them. (Not yet anyways.)

He was just a kid. A kid taken advantage of by ignorant masses solely because there’s no one better than him to take accountability for the casualties of Konoha during the Nine-Tail’s rampage.

It wasn’t his fault. It really wasn’t. Even if he knew anything about everything— about the beast sealed in him, his parents, and the village’s stupid reason of discriminating him—

And again, you watch him become the outlet of their rage and sorrow.

In defense of Sasuke Uchiha (Blank Period)

Another rant post of mine. Hoo boy.

Like, I don't know about you guys, but, honestly, Sasuke should have returned to the Leaf village, regurlarly, after the war. Not after months or years, and here is why: Sasuke may have chosen to leave the village and become a rogue ninja, but never forget...

...he is as much of a victim, as the rest of the entire Uchiha clan (safe for Madara and Obito), and the Leaf village, in the grand scheme of things. He was never the problem.

Remember, Sasuke wouldn't have even defected in the first place, had the Konoha elders not been such an ignorant and stubborn bunch, that is both stuck in the past, and unable to move on. Remaining bitter towards the Uchiha, until they get laid to rest in their coffins. ...Our totally trustworthy leaders, everyone! Would you still apply for a job with them, after what they had done to the Uchiha?

Here is a thing, if they were fine with the Uchiha getting sacrificed to "maintain peace" and wiping everything under the rug, too, where should we draw a line? Where does it stop? What other clan might have been next, had the Uchiha not been the ONLY ones to agree with a coup d'état? You really mean to tell me, neither of the clans, that had sensory abilities like the Hyuga, the Yamanaka, or even the Inuzuka, were ever made aware of this? This. Was. A. MASSACRE. This wasn't a spy operation, innocent civilians were slaughtered in the process, remember, not every Uchiha was even able to unlock their own Kekkei Genkai, so, the only logical conclusion is:

Either, Danzo might have blackmailed the other clans to shut their mouths about this incident, because, come on, NO ONE can tell me, the screams from men, women and infants, along with blood splatters, could have been missed so easily, I know the Uchiha were shoved into the very edge of the village, but what are the chances of this just getting ignored, just like that? Especially if you have the Byakugan, or you have a hound with you, like the Inuzuka?

The elders from each clan in Konoha were all in on this, as an orchestrated, planned event, choosing willingly to ignore it all, because hey, it's so convenient to just look away, when it doesn't concern your own clan, right?

This isn't the face of an "irredeemable piece of trash war criminal, who doesn't deserve forgiveness". This is the face of a man, who has seen and been told some shit, that cannot ever be unseen or unheard. Imagine being born into a world, where, the very second you drew breath, everyone hates you, just for existing, for things, you didn't even ask to be burdened with. Much less, when you were still a kid, too. And doing it in SECRET, no less. Dude. This doesn't take a genius to understand, how fucked right up this is.

Plus, am I the only one who finds it insanely shitty from either Naruto, Sakura or Kakashi, to never make any efforts to publically criticize or oppose the elders for what they have done to the Uchiha clan? Wanting to bring the truth about the entire clan to light, and put the elders and feudal lords on the spot? Just for the fact alone, that they never once tackled this subject during the Blank Period, is, to me, a very shitty thing to do, especially since Naruto prides himself the loudest on having made Sasuke come back to his senses, and yet, never once, does he challenge these old farts? Really? Maybe I am missing something, feel free to correct me, but from my memory, neither he, or Kakashi, when he was still Hokage, made ANY efforts to publically apologize to the Uchiha clan, or even so much as trying to build memorial stones for the deceased Uchiha, or hell, even Itachi (I think?). And yes, I know, the clan was at the verge of starting a civil bar, but again:

NOT ALL OF THEM. WERE FINE. WITH IT. ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING, IT ALL MOSTLY STEMMED FROM MADARA BEING A SORE LOSER, AND TOBIRAMA BEING A RACIST PIECE OF GARBAGE. AND A HUGE PORTION OF THE UCHIHA WERE NOT EVEN ASSIGNED SHINOBI. PRAY TELL, KILLING EVERYONE, BECAUSE OF A FEW ROTTEN APPLES MAKES EVERYTHING OK THEN?!?!?!?!?!

And Kakashi bears Obito's Sharingan, he is living evidence too, of what public scrutiny and scapegoating can do to a person! His life, is essentially no different from either Naruto or Sasuke, and yet, despite having taught Sasuke, and still loving him as a teammate, no, as FAMILY, he NEVER ONCE HELPED HIM GETTING HIS NAME CLEARED?! What the FUCK, Kishimoto?

Also, can I be honest? I hate Boruto, as a follow-up story, for a different reason altogether. That being:

It STILL pretends as if the Uchiha are "evil, by default", and the elders are still, somehow, by some twisted "miracle", "in power", during Naruto's and Kakashi's rule. I mean, just for the fact, that these dried up twigs still have any say, WHATSOEVER, even the tiniest bit of presence in ANY capacity, after all the vile shit that they have pulled, by siding with Danzo, and making backhanded deals with other villages, is enough of a reason for me to more than sympathize with Sasuke's decision to never truly consider this village home, because WHY WOULD HE? These assholes ruined his life, way before he was even born, and yet these same jesters expect Sasuke to live in seclusion, and in shame, over what his heritage has done, but taking accountability for their own actions? Pffft, noooo, why would they? Their reputation as "village leaders" is more important than confronting their own shortcomings...

So, no, after the war, Sasuke should have been given some form of leniency, with either Naruto, Sakura or Kakashi having gone off to spread the word to other nations that what he did, cannot easily be pardoned, but they at least, THE BARE MINIMUM, deserve to know and understand, WHY he did all this. This. THIS course of action would have been a serious love letter to Sasuke, a sign of appreciation that, no matter where he went, he will always matter, even if he believes himself to be undeserving of it, because: It just isn't productive to be leaving an already scarred individual like him in the mold of "all Uchiha, bad", because that just won't work out. Paying for his wrongs is one thing, but putting him, for the rest of his life, along with his future descendants in the "square of shame", is just plain pathetic. Sasuke deserves to have some peace and quiet, too.

Moral of the story: DO NOT. LET HISTORY. REPEAT ITSELF.

Look, this post is not meant to excuse anything Sasuke has done, I am only providing more context that explains, why I feel like, the story was doing him dirty, especially near the end of Shippuden and during the Blank Period. You can think whatever you want about him, I don't care, all I am saying is, even someone like him deserves some well-deserved closure, because, that never happened. The stigma has not disappeared, and it wasn't Sasuke's doing, it was Madara's, don't get that confused. Besides, go on, keep ignoring the concept of "from action, follows a reaction", just so you can keep twisting and turning it, to always make Sasuke appear like the bad guy. Keep doing. You're doing great. In exposing how stupid and ignorant you are, frankly put.

Sasuke deserves to live in peace, he deserves to be happy, and not live in another illusion of supposed "peace", when really, nothing has changed, he deserves better. And look, we can judge Itachi all we want, but in the end, he still loved his brother, and that remains forever, all he did, was for him, as twisted as his method ended up being. It still ended up saving lives. No one else deserves to bear such a burden. Which makes it even more imperative to not wipe something as important as this under the rug, because "the truth is too unpleasant". Case closed.

They have similar personalities (Sakura is just a bit softer spoken, while Ino is a bit softer in behavior), they play very well of each other and I love me some girl power!

Ino is everything I love in a character:

1. She is SO DAMN SMART.

The fact that Shikaramru is a strategist of the group is such a waste.

12 yo Ino pulled one of the biggest Uno reverse cards in manga, and people forget about it because they disregard Sakura vs Ino fight, which is a BIG MISTAKE.

Ino was aware that Sakura knew her technique well, and she still played Sakura like a toy. She pretended to have a full-on mental breakdown to make everyone believe the fight was over and that she had "lost it"

Just to fulfill a genius strategy she made up on the spot???

She was 12, and she fooled EVERYONE (including Shikamaru, who has the highest IQ and should see right through it).

That was and forever will be ✨️ Iconic ✨️.

Even during the written exam, she had one of the best ways of cheating (only Shinos and Sakuras (because she didn't cheat at all lol) were better):

Ino is amazing, and I hate when people disregard her. Is she as strong as Sakura or as smart as Shikamaru? No, but she is still incredible and a force to be reckoned with.

She is definitely one of the most incredible and one of the strongest (in her own right) femal characters.

She wouldn't win with Sakura or Temari in one on one, but she would smash both Hinata or TenTen and be a big trouble for the rest of Kunoichi.

(Also, that girl is so damn pretty, I can't ✨️)

Sakura, Temari, and Ino are my personal favorites, but:

Tsunade is also absolutely incredible.

Mei is not in my top 10, but I'm all for strong female characters, so I like her too.

Konan is not my favorite - her personality is meh for me, but I can admit she is well written and crazy strong.

TenTen is not in manga enough, for me to have many feelings about her but... TenTen with Bashōsen??? Queen ✨️

Chiyo had a great character arc.

Anko, Hanabi, and Shizune are awesome for me too - their introductions always get me SHOCKED, and I love it for them.

Kushina and Kurenai are a bit reduced to "I love my man/family" so I'm not as interested in them as individual characters, but I like them well enough.

I respect Karin, Tayuya, and Karui for being honest. I hate a hypocrite, so them being so unapologetic in their behavior makes me at least respect them. I like Karin's character development, and I love me a smart and strong woman so 🤷‍♀️

From the new generation:

Sarada is fire. How can you not love her? She's a girl boss (so far) as well, also a child of Sakura and Sasuke??? GIMME MORE.

ChoCho is a fun character with an interesting idea, I hope she gets more development!

I just hate that one boring and rude character. One that makes my blood boil and my feministic heart bleed with RAGE, but that's not the focus of that post, so 🤷‍♀️. Oh, and I dislike Himawari for what she did to Naruto on the day he became Hokage. I usually try to update once per month. This month won't see an update, though, seeing as I am recovering from an emergency surgery and have been feeling very poorly the last few months, and have thus not written much. Hopefully, i should recover without much problems from here.

Hmm, my inspiration for starting HtS. It's been a while now, but... I have a friend, who was writing an SI fic and it was very unlike any other kind I had ever stumbled across in the wild. I was intrigued by her approach to the subject and quite spontaneously decided to give it a try for myself! I had never been interested in SI stories before, which is a bit amusing at this point. Either way, Hear the Silence grew quite exponentially and I was completely captivated and now it's been been almost 8 years XD

The biggest thing I didn't see coming.... to be entirely honest? How much people seem to like it. How popular HtS has gotten. I was very sure when I started writing that this would be very niche and very much different from what this fandom is used to and I wrote it - and still write it - entirely after my own heart, interests and inclinations! I didn't think there would be many people along for the journey other than myself and my friends, but it has been absolutely incredible to be proven wrong.

I know this wasn't quite what you asked, you asked about plot changes, but I have always had a relatively clear picture where this story is going and the broad strokes of things 😊Perhaps Katsurou is the biggest surprise, though. The only thing I knew about this man when I started writing him was that he was a Yamanaka and his general temperament/personality, and everything else has slowly been revealed to me as it has become relevant, and I don't think I had any idea just how important he would end up becoming to Kyo and to the story overall, when he first stepped into that Academy classroom to collect his team.

🌑 Considering that Clans like the Nara, Akimichi and Yamanaka relocated into the Hidden Leaf Village after it's establishment, I can see darling also being part of a similar Clan. There's no major interest in any of those clans, Madara only cares about the fact that all those clans will make Konoha a very strong nation but I do see him being interested in the secret arts of all the clans. He can technically copy them, including the ability to shrink the own body if we're going to assume that it's not a kekkai genkai but a secret art passed down within the clan. The only reason he's refraining from it is because Hashirama tells him to not dig into the secret of those abilities since it will damage the relationship between the village and the clan. His darling would have to be special among their own clan to stand out to him, maybe they're just exceptionally talented and smart and get paired with him on missions a lot.

🌑 If Hashirama notices that his somewhat grumpy friend works well together with you, he'll definitely put you two constantly in the same team. Madara's not complaining though. You caught his interest, obviously he'll use every excuse to get to know you better. I do feel like he would feel somewhat weird during missions where you have to use your abilities and shrink yourself to the size where you can easily fit into the palm of his hand. The look he gives you the first few times where he witnesses it is priceless before he learns to mask his mild shock. Occasionally you make him mad on purpose and in such moments he threatens to squash you, you know that he's just kidding though. The Uchiha already have a good idea what's going on when he starts forcing you to spend time with him in the Uchiha compound, that doesn't make the following discussion with the eldest of the clan easier though, considering that Madara is stubborn. There's nothing holding him back from courting you although an arranged marriage will be held if you should refuse his advances.

Hashirama Senju

🌳 Considering the kind of man he is, I can totally see him trying to help literally every clan that settles into Konoha with the built of their compound, even if his brother reminds him that he has other things to do. For Hashirama it's important to take this time to strengthen the relationship between the clan and the fairly new village and connect with the people who will from now on call this place their home. So that's how you two meet when he pays the compound of your clan a visit to ask if everything so far has been working out and if there's anything he can help with. He's just walking up to you and begins talking with you as if he isn't the Hokage of this village. That makes it easier for you to talk with him though as you don't feel any pressure or stress like you'd feel normally if someone in a high position talks to you. So you engage him with your own quips and wits and before he knows it, he's spent far too much time talking with you. He couldn't help it though, you were just that great in talking. You don't think that it's weird that he visits often, you've heard from other clans that he does the same with them.

🌳 You think it's nice how much he cares and you often wait for him to visit again. The time you two talk together when he comes over gets longer and eventually you take strolls together through the village where he excitedly shows you everything that the villagers have worked on and that he plans to do in the future. Then begins the phrase where he suddenly starts giving you flowers and beautiful kimonos as his mind seems to only revolve around you. The times Tobirama has caught him grinning like a lovesick fool whilst sitting in his office is far too much to count on all hands and feet. It's so easy to realize what is going on with Hashirama and whilst his clan initially hesitates a bit, they at least figure that you have a special jutsu. When your clan receives the offer of an arranged marriage between you and Hashirama, they seem willing to accept it, knowing that it would greatly benefit their clan. You search for Hashirama in shock who wasn't aware of the schemes of his clan either although he did plan on asking them for your hand in marriage. Seeing you so devastated with the thought of marrying him breaks his heart though, do you really hate the idea that much?

Tobirama Senju

🌊 Tobirama isn't such an emotional fool like his brother is, he just wanted you and your clan in the village to have as many strong people in Konoha as possible to have an advantage over the other nations. The comfort of those clans so that they stay in the village is obviously also important to him so makes arrangements to ease any tension and doubts. The people from your clan are mostly used for spying and collecting informations as your hidden jutsu suits such tasks perfectly. Eventually you get choosen personally from him as a new member of his own team of trusted and skilled shinobi so you often tag along when he goes out on highly dangerous missions. It's a huge honor for you and your clan so you dedicate your everything into helping him to succeed every mission. As someone who is rewarded with his trust, you realize that beyond that grumpy and serious facade is a more caring and loyal man than some might think. Tobirama just doesn't seem to be fond to show such a side of himself often.

🌊 Everything goes well until Tobirama starts acting weird around you. His newfound obsession disturbs him and he tries his best to not let it have a bad influence on your teamwork as he tries to keep it professional. Yet his feelings are something he can't beat with logic and worst of all, he realizes that his change of attitude hurts you and it awakens guilt inside of him. You still try to not let it get too you during missions, something that only makes him admire you even more. You don't see him very often outside of missions anymore as you just assume that he needs time alone, in reality Tobirama is watching your every step very closely. Be that with the help of the Anbu or with his sensory abilities, you can never escape him like this. Not even if you shrink yourself as he can always track you down. He doesn't want anyone to find out, the shame would be too much to bear for him. I do see him as less opposed to suggest an arranged marriage between his darling and him since he knows that your clan would all too happily agree if it means having a better relationship with the Senju. Only if you refuse him of course and hurt his pride.

Pain

🌧️ You live in Amegakure and are the last one of your family alive, meaning that you're also the last one who knows about the secret art of your family. It seems like this jutsu will die down together with you, that is until two very mysterious people approach you and ask you if you'd be willing to work for their organization. You lack the courage to reject, your guts telling you that it would be a bad idea to refuse their request. You've heard about the rumors of the god and the angel of Amegakure and just sort of know that the people in front of you are those legends everyone keeps whispering about. You're less responsible for catching any Tailed Beasts though as you're only given few information about the goal, origin and purpose of the Akatsuki. Your only job is to infiltrate, to spy and to collect certain pieces of information before reporting back to Pain and Konan. You never dare to run away or betray them out of fear that they might kill you as both always seem to figure out your location, even if you shrink yourself.

🌧️ You find it strange when your missions decrease and you're instead often kept in the tower where you just sit around before helping those two with whatever you can do within the tower. Pain's Rinnegan never seems to leave your form, something that gives you shivers as his unwavering gaze on you creeps you out. It's especially terrifying if Konan isn't there and the thick silence engulfing you two threatens to stop your heart out of sheer nervousness. There are times where he tries to break the silence by chatting a bit with you but it only does little to soothe your nerves. You don't know what's going on inside his head and it's only on the day where he suddenly tells you that you won't leave this tower anymore that you finally get an idea of what's happening. A few of his other bodies stop you from leaving as you glance at Konan, pleading silently for help before you see that she looks away guiltily and you understand that she won't help you. You can try to escape by making yourself as tiny as possible but Pain will always find you. Hopefully you know that already.

Shisui Uchiha

🍂 Both you and Shisui are part of the Anbu and you've been part of his team since years now. The reason is the simple one that you two make a very good duo together and always get the job done, no matter how difficult or bloody the task at hand might be. You can rely on each other and often know what the other one is thinking by simply looking into each other's eyes. Even outside of missions you two spend a lot of time together, you know Itachi and Sasuke very well because Shisui has introduced you to both of them already. You merely see Shisui as a really good friend of yours though whilst Shisui's feelings have changed throughout the years. A simple crush which he never told you about because he knew that you didn't feel the same as he did have turned over time into a deep obsession he's unable to get rid off. It's only because of his amazing amount of restraint that he hasn't done anything yet. You're part of a well-known clan in Konoha and a famous Anbu after all, not to mention that he admires and respects you so much. He would like to avoid underhanded tactics when it comes to you.

🍂 Yet there's this brooding feeling inside his chest as his patience runs with time thin as he starts wondering why you've never considered him as a potential partner for you. He's seen you crushing on so many people before and can't help in some emotionally vulnerable moments why you would choose them over him, someone you've known for years now. Why not him? The only saving grace is that you never went out of your way to ask any of those people and Shisui is partially to blame for that. He has stalked people that caught your interest, has observed them and memorized their routine and their tiny ticks and everything that he can use to help you lose interest as he points out why you wouldn't like that person or why you wouldn't be permanently happy. Even if you try to hide that you have feelings for someone, Shisui always finds out as he knows more about you than you're aware of. For the time being he holds himself back as he stalks you, waits for any sign that you might hopefully return his feelings one day. He's waited so long for you after all, he won't give you up to anyone else.

Itachi Uchiha

🍡 The history between you two starts as you join the ranks of the Akatsuki and get paired with Itachi for a new mission as Pain deems your abilities to fit perfectly for retrieving important information and scrolls, looking on how you've perfected your jutsu to the point where you can even shrink objects around you. Itachi is picked because he has experience as an Anbu and knows how to be stealthy so he is supposed to help you infiltrate the village and steal the scrolls. To your luck he's very silent and not as intimidating as you expected someone from the Akatsuki to be. The mission goes to your luck well as both of you exceed in teamwork as something about Itachi manages to ease your jittery nerves. As you collect more experiences with other members, you soon realize that you work best together with Itachi and Pain notices that too and puts you two permanently together. You feel relieved about it and even Itachi seems weirdly peaceful about it as you're one of the few members he's met who doesn't kill people out of fun or is necessarily happy to murder.

🍡 There's some sort of innocence surrounding you and he soon realizes that you're only here in the first place because you didn't have a choice, looking on how you're the last one of your family who knows the secret art of shrinking yourself and things around you. Almost as if to preserve your innocence, he starts hurting and killing others just so that you don't have to as he has already no chance to make up for his sins. He protects you from doing something you can't bring yourself to do and you appreciate it. Both of you bond like this as your bubbly attitude around him in peaceful moments is a breath of fresh air for Itachi, the last ray of sunshine in the world he has resigned himself into. Love isn't something that he deserves nor did expect to find so imagine the sudden paranoia he feels whenever you go on missions, the fear that you might get hurt. He tries to rationalize his fears, tells himself that you got chosen for a reason yet all it'll take is one miscalculation from your part which will get you seriously hurt for Itachi's paranoia to blind him. You don't belong into this world, so he'll keep you away from it.

Sasuke Uchiha

💙 A trophy of Orochimaru is what you are now, he saved you from the brink of starvation when he found out about your secret art that only you know about now as all your other relatives have been killed in attempts to figure out the Hidden Jutsu. It's not like you want to be here but you know that the man would otherwise either kill you or use you as a lab rat so you choose the less gruesome outcome. By the time you join, Sasuke is already there and your intial hopes of befriending him so you feel less lonely are crushed when you figure out how much of an asshole he is, rude and only focused on his own training. He doesn't bother with anyone who can't help him gaining more power and so you're left completely on your own with little to no choice but work on your own jutsu. Orochimaru expects progress from you after all and it's only when Sasuke finds out about your abilities that he seems to be a tiny bit interested. To your demise, Orochimaru for some reason wants you to train with him together looking on how the both of you are of similar age. He seems convinced that you'll benefit from your training with Sasuke.

💙 The training does pay off as you get significantly better in ninjutsu and taijutsu but it comes with the price of ruthless attacks, scars, wounds and many sleepless nights as Sasuke forces you through hell with the training. You don't know why he's all of a sudden that invested since he didn't want to spare you even a single glance before but now all he focuses on are his own strength and you. He forces you to tag along with him all the time, there's rarely a moment where you two are separated from each other and you can always feel his hardened eyes following you around, his grip on you tightening when something bothers him or he simply wants to warn you to not do something that will anger him. Sasuke himself is equally confused about the uprise of those foreign feelings as he wonders what it is about you that made him this way. Maybe it was your strength, maybe it was your surprisingly tenacious side at times. The only thing he does know is that you're close to his heart and that he will never allow you to leave his side for that reason.

Sakura Haruno

🌸You start training your medical abilities shortly after Sakura has been made the new apprentice of Tsunade and both of you end up spending a lot of time together for that reason. Sakura has known you before that too of course, you're from a clan in Konoha with the special ability to shrink yourself and even people and things you touch. That's about all she knows though so she decides to use the chance to get to know you better now, looking on how both of you train to learn medical jutsu. Sakura has an affinity for healing though which is why soon enough she is able to move on to the more challenging stuff whilst you're still struggling with the basics. You're not afraid to ask her for help though nor is she arrogant that she's better than you, instead both of you begin studying together. At one point you even show her your jutsu when she expresses her curiosity and in the end Sakura can only stare in amazement down before carefully letting you jump on her palm and lifting you up. That's when she starts wondering if it would be possible for you to use your jutsu to shrink the wounds of people which would be of great help. 

🌸 Both of you are at one point inseparable as you're constantly seen together. You study together, you train together, you take your meals together. Tsunade has pretty much made you her second apprentice because both of you stick together like glue but also because Sakura has told her about her idea how to use your secret art which the Hokage figures out might be possible. Honestly, people already wonder whether you two are a couple or not and Ino has teased Sakura about it already a couple of times, triggering a blush to bloom on her friend's cheeks. Sakura's behavior does not make any of this easier though as she essentially acts like she's your girlfriend. She's really affectionate, prepares questionable medicine for you if you're sick and even insists to nurse you back to health when you fall ill. She's delusional so obviously she doesn't shy away from her feelings as she doesn't view them as wrong, she's initially just a bit flustered with her growing crush.
