I always got a bit sad when it was revealed that Natsu's actual GIVEN last name was "Dragneel"

As when first getting into Fairy Tail, I thought that he gave himself his last name.

As think about it. This kid grew up with a fucking dragon. What is a surname gonna do for him? It's most likely that he would just be "Son of Igneel" or the "Fire Dragon Prince".

I always LOVED the idea of when he was brought to the present and people kept asking for a surname. And, apparently, "Son of Igneel" did not suffice.

So he came up with Dragneel on the fly. As it's combination of "Dragon" and "Igneel". I always thought it was endearing as it was him honoring his father in a way.

But then Zeref has the same last name and yeh. :/

i think perhaps the most annoying thing about my brand of autism is that I mimic the speech patterns of people if i listen to them talk for more than an hour (the longer, the more obvious). i think it's less that people own them and more that they're tagging along for the ride for funsies. i mean some of them are literally gods yknow. like I don't think some random kid named N currently owns a giant electric dragon god that could kill him in one hit, I think the giant electric dragon god is just vibing in this realm and probably enjoys a good spicy poffin that that kid can supply easily. IDK why the legendaries usually choose the child vigilantes to hang out with but my guess is that they're like, oh this child was traumatized by having to fight terrorists singlehandedly. they can have a little godly company, as a treat
