Idk if we watched the same show, or if you missed the VERY OBVIOUS SHADOWY MASTERMIND IN THE WINGS. During the board members meeting, we see Barb look up at the observation room for the room they are in to see someone. Then she makes the bomb suggestion. It’s very obvious that even though she is working w them the dropping of the bombs is bigger than she is.

“Well, why are Janey and Cooper out and about when the bombs drop?”

I would usually wait till season 2 to get an answer for this but I’ll throw my hat in the ring for a guess. It was probably his weekend, and I doubt Barb knew exactly when everything would go down. I don’t think many Americans did which is why the intro to Fo4 is the way it is. Cooper probably rushed Janey to the vault. Janey, though she experienced the bomb, did in fact have a spot in the vault. It is assumed, otherwise Cooper would just be asking Hank/Henry about his wife, only. He asks about his family. Janey was probably allowed in, but Cooper’s betrayal of Vault Tec was probably the reason he lost his spot. Barb, freshly divorced, was probably not allowed to save him OR let him into vault. And even if she did leave him outside, he just betrayed her. He JUST divorced her.

If the birthday party scene is anything to go by, Cooper just put Barb’s entire reputation under fire. At Her Job. The same job that is allowing her safety, why would she let him stay in the vault at the risk of maybe losing her own spot and that of her daughter’s…?

Barb Howard is a complex character, don’t slander her just because she gets in the way of your ship. Y’all do the same with Maximus. The ghoul is my fave but with all the Barb and Max slander I need a g*n to defend them.

So I played Life is Strange 2 for the first time ever

I didn’t wanna play it for a long time not cause it didn’t have Chloe or max (tbh I got sick of their asses around BtS they’re not even my faves)

By that point I was in college and had lost interest in the whole franchise but also I was very apprehensive of white creatives writing racism with no input from the group they’re portraying, they don’t usually do a good job

Sometimes they make it cartoony, sometimes they trivialize it, sometimes they romanticize it

So years later adulthood kicked my ass and I came back crawling to this franchise for some comfort, I finished True colors annnnd I finally started 2 after hesitating annnnd

I actually liked it

I liked Sean, the drawing segment he does- he was such a likable main guy, deserved better honestly.

I also liked Daniel, he was very adorable and I never got it when people called him annoying like no shit the 9 year old is gonna act like a 9 year old- just don’t be a jerk to him, I know he can be frustrating but that’s what taking care of a kid is like

And lis had always been about realistic complex characters, y’all can’t handle a traumatized nine year?

I have two younger siblings and two nieces plus I’ve been a bratty younger sibling to two older sisters

Maybe I’m just used to it?? But honestly Daniel wasn’t that bad

The racism portrayal in the first few episodes was not all that cartoony and it actually felt real at times, like I can check for American news rn and find stories similar to what you see in episodes 1-3 (minus the telekinesis)

Although the gas station racist hick spouting trump slogans was a bit on the nose, it’s more of dialogue thing

Some people thought the gas station detainment was egregious but it can happen unfortunately, especially to vulnerable people in rural areas and by someone of a higher systematic advantage

One other thing I did not like was the love interests, I thought Finn and Cassidy were alright characters on their own but why do we need romance in this game where the protagonists are always on the run?

I don’t like to compare lis 1 to 2 but when it comes to the romance the former did a better job as it spent more time establishing it, plus max stayed in the same place for the majority of the game- but you know what? Sean doesn’t have to be in a relationship right? It can be a one off thing, that’s fine

Which brings me to my next point

How old are Cassidy and Finn?

Cause Sean is still 16 and no, being on the road didn’t mentally age him- he’s not “mature” for his age

He is still a kid

So for some reason Dontnod never really specified their ages but some articles described them as teens (they look 30 to me) and they can be around 18 right? Their lives are hard stress ages you- it happens, we can with live that, it’s just a two years difference

But teens or not

why did they animate a whole knocking the boots scene???

Of all the games in the series, the only one that gets a sex scene is the one with the much younger protagonist and his ambiguously aged older looking love interest and I think it’s only with Cassidy you get to do it in the tent

Alex Chen was robbed of a on screen booty call from a beanie wearing lesbian with a sexy radio voice or a buff ass Adonis of a man who was Smokey the bear’s regional manager or something

Anyways I’m gonna move on I’m uncomfortable lmao

*im not hating on people who ship Sean with either Finn or Cassidy, I’m not even tagging your ship names- im just stating my personal preferences on my blog

One last thing I did not like about LiS 2 and it was the one thing that kept me from playing it for years

That one scene from episode 4

So at this point Sean Diaz went through the following:

-lost his father, had to abandoned his loved ones, education and home

-was accused of killing a cop

-had to take care of his little brother on his own while on the run, the same brother with telekinesis and none of them know how to control it

-was harassed, beaten then detained by a racist white man

-had to take refuge in an abandoned cabin with little resources

-the dog that they adopted at the gas station eventually gets mauled

-the one time they found solace at their grandparents house they had to leave abruptly cause the police was hot on their trail

-on their way out they can potentially witness the neighbors kid that they befriended get hit by the police car that’s chasing them

-they find shelter at a nomad campground but oh no they get involved with drug trafficking cause they barely have any other options to make money (unfortunately this happens a lot IRL this isnt egregious)

-Sean now has to deal with the trafficking, making sure that Daniel doesn’t get into any trouble with his powers while fake ass giancarlo esposito is breathing down his neck

-and guess what happens next… Daniel gets robbed into pulling a heist on temu gus fring and it goes badly, Sean can potentially lose a love interest/friend in Finn

-Sean gets hurt, Daniel goes so mad that he blows the whole place up; a shard glass flies into Sean’s eye and he ends up losing it

- Sean wakes up from a coma and learns that his brother is missing and he’s about to be taken to jail

- the one thing that consistently brought him joy during this trip was his art and because of the missing eye he can’t even do it the same anymore cause it hurts now

- Sean has to escape the hospital with a hot wired car, little money and has to drive across two states just to get to his brother

-on the way he dreams of his father, he wants him back he wants his old life back but that’s not gonna happen so he has to move forward

Im not listing all this as examples of bad story telling, a lot of these are real life experiences of homeless people. im just painting a picture of the shit that Sean had went through so far

Cause right after the dream sequence, Dontnod didn’t think all that was enough no you had to see Sean get hate crimed by two lifetime movie, sitcom special of the week racists- be made to either sing or suffer a brutal beating

It added nothing to the plot, it didn’t need a choice system either- it’s a hate crime, you’re not asking Joyce for fucking pancakes or eggs n bacon at the whales diner or hosing down Lisa the fckin plant.

This to me went straight to trauma p*rn category, it’s wheelchair Chloe all over again

I hated it then in LiS 1 and I hated now in LiS 2, this is why I don’t dick ride Dontnod that often

They always had this tendency right before the end they single out a particular character and mentally whip them, they become the writing teams punching bag- they think we didn’t get it the first time that this character is going through it, they just hammer it in with the subtlety of a heart attack and I hate it

“Yeah but it’s there to show Sean’s resolve to find Daniel-“

HE ESCAPED FROM THE HOSPITAL AND THE FEDS, HE HOT WIRED A CAR TO DRIVE ACROSS TWO STATES

He’s starving, dehydrated, suffering from chronic pain

That’s enough

Let the character breathe

You ask why not a lot of people wanna play this game and I’m gonna tell you, as much I enjoyed it myself it’s not an easy game to play- it gets brutal, especially right around the end

I’m not against bleakness or extreme conflict, I’m into that but sometimes that doesn’t translate well to any gaming format- especially a choices matter game that’s meant to be replayed

Some people have asinine reasons not to play LiS 2 like it dealing with racism and those people suck, lis had always dealt with progressive themes like calling out objectification, cyberbullying and sl*tshaming

Racism shouldn’t be the exemption

but misuse of racial trauma and not knowing when it’s appropriate to invoke it is a huge turn off and hella triggering to a lot of non white players and I remember when LiS 2 dropped I’ve seen (mostly white) lis fans at the time proclaiming that not wanting to play it meant that you were racist

Like I said there were probably racists who didn’t wanna touch the games cause of the main characters skin but there were people like me who were apprehensive of the “Let’s go to the mosh pit Shaka brah” people handling racism

This is the same studio that had Ms Grant (one of the few black characters from LiS 1) claim that the white settlers peacefully shared the stolen land with the native Americans

I find that shit harder to believe than the time traveling powers

And they were doing alright in the first episodes they covered stuff like unconscious biases slipping through, dog whistles, polite racism from the grandparents segment, police brutality, racial profiling and being targeted/othered- some of these things I went through when I visited western countries

Then they did the bullshit I feared theyd do…

I really don’t blame myself for being hyper vigilant at the time and honestly I was going through a lot then, even if I wanted to I wouldn’t have touched LiS 2 cause it’s a very heavy tasking game to play

I know I kinda made it seem like I didn’t like this game but I did, its the best one in terms of the choice system

It had more weight to it, seeing Daniel internalizing what you say to him or how you act around him was so cool

Also what the second game has over the first one aside from the choices system is the ending selection- I never liked picking the endings for max, I wanted her to pick the ending or her coding/script to do that

Its definitely more fleshed out technically even though LiS 1 has a special place in my heart it’s always gonna be no. 1- but im also glad that I got to experience the 2nd game for the first time, I liked it

yeah, long distance can be a kick in the teeth. it's only going to be harder when he's even further away come june. so it's a lot of holding on. he said that if need support or resources for dealing with any emotional turmoil during the eight months overseas then he'll happily talk to whoever he needs to talk to so i can get that help - as he always tells me, i'm never alone in this. it mostly stings when he's busy on the field and all of my friends are out for the night so there isn't much to distract myself with. last time, i think i made kraft dinner and watched an avengers movie with my mom. i'm not resentful towards cottontail, it's not forever and he'll be home soon enough. i know that he's already thinking up of the perfect date to take me on when he comes home for a visit next month.

the way i look at it, it's forcing me to really work on my writing and try to build a body of publishable works. i have a lot of free time, haha. i want him to come back and i've made greater strides towards being traditionally published and having a bit more money in my pocket so hopefully we can start really looking at the future together.

he's been suggesting that maybe in a couple of years we'll move outside of our province and settle down in army housing. i said as long as i have access to my medications (for my mental health and transition) then i'd happily go anywhere! but thankfully we're both not people to make decisions without really thinking it through! so, right now it's just get through deployment, i finish school and i start work on trying to get published. - after that we can discuss things like moving in and marriage. it's just laying down the seeds so we can water them later!!

funny enough, i do technically have a body pillow. i have one of those big ikea bears! before his departure, he took me to ikea and asked me to pick out 2-3 plushies that he'd buy for me. i got really flustered at the idea and i didn't want him to spend too much money on me. in the end i picked the bear and the alien. both are on my bed. and when i do miss cottontail, i put the hoodie he gave to me (i stole it) on the bear (named hugo) and snuggle it to death.

it's not the same, but it lessens the lonely feeling. last year it felt like in a blink of an eye it was july, now it feels like i'm slugging through the year since he left for training!!! hugo has been doing his service well - also been the protector of my nightmares while cottontail is unable to be there next to me.

i used to be really into soap, i actually have the captain/09 soap figure that i got for 5$ at a yard sale last summer. he still sits on my shelf quite proudly. i thought that ghost was like the default choice that everyone loved so i guess i wanted to be a silly, goofy guy and different. - and then cottontail just gave off a lot of ghost vibes. big guy, dry sarcasm, fairly monotone kind of voice - but not boring. big, bulky blond from the military who is cold to most, but is warm to one specific person (for cottontail i'm that person). i didn't hate ghost, but i've come back around, haha.

cottontail likes his war games - he likes putting them on and playing them on a low volume when he gets up earlier than me, which is often. i've never asked if he liked call of duty in particular, i do remember he likes halo. only because i told him how old i was when halo 4 came out, and he went "yeah i was nine." and i felt myself age rapidly. we've also played minecraft together and he has watched me play pokemon (which is my personal favourite series) and forced him to pick a favourite pokemon.

i'm certain that if he had a favourite member of 141, it might be captain price because of his leadership skills and the missions in game where you play as him would be more up his alley.

What was your biggest pit of despair moment? Missing a steddiemicrofics prompt in January.

Because, like… the last six months have been pretty bleak what with breaking my wrist, moving while on painkillers, the ringworm and missing two holidays because of it, still the ringworm, being laid out by something that felt like the flu but wasn’t for a week, unexpectedly and unceremoniously getting fired so hard I don’t qualify for unemployment, financial crisis, and maybe having to rehome our second dog because she keeps getting too overstimulated by the cats for us to feel they’re 100% safe around her which is breaking my fucking heart.

BUT. It was the only microfic month I missed amidst all that crap, and I saw it coming at the time and felt it was the insult added onto injury. Like, okay ability to write, kicking me when I’m already down I see. Bastard.

What have you learned? That more people like weight gain kink fics than I realized. Like, I’m not doing big numbers, but I am still doing more numbers than I would writing far less kinky niche in a smaller fandom and ain’t that something.

Did you beta any fics last year? Any faves you want to shout out? I did not, but I’ve had the honor of bouncing ideas back and forth with some cool cucumbers, including but not limited to: @hotluncheddie, @wheneverfeasible, @victorclays, @cherrygyals-blog.

What three fics from last year did you love? Oh man, my memory is dogshit. Let’s see…

it must be something in the water by rosefire | E (omegaverse). Love me some athlete omega Steve and angst with mutual pining miscommunication. Which I swear is not a real spoiler, it’s in the tags.

I’d Meet You Where The Spirit Meets The Bones by aaliona | E (omegaverse). Also omega Steve. Look, I will never not be enamored with a/b/o fics where the character is exactly the same as in canon and like also there are secondary characteristics in there too, worked in seamlessly without changing anything. I think this was actually the first fic like that I ever read that did that (this list is not in chronological order) and it is secretly the golden ruler I hold all other a/b/o fics. Steve keeping his designation a secret and regardless of his actual designation everyone just assumes he’s an alpha? Yes please. Specifically pointing to him as an example of, this big strong omega has been protecting the shit out of y’all for years and bullshit stereotypes are bullshit? I’m eating it with a spoon. Alpha Eddie is a size queen? I’m using my hands.

At a medium pace by dartlekey | E. There’s something so cathartic to me about Eddie being very cranky while recovering from his bat injuries. And also, of course, there’s the silliness during hot, hot sex. And the bit where Eddie thinks he “needs to introduce Steve to a few bears, get the guy some inspiration for what he could look like, in a few years.”

• I already mentioned this in prior posts; like in my post about all the audition tapes & in the trailer reaction post, but Tristan & Hannah mean a lot to me. I see myself a lot in the both of them; they both have upbeat personalities, & I share Tristan’s beliefs on choosing to keep smiling as the world turns regardless so much, Hannah’s a Filipino-Canadian & Bi, Tristan’s Non-Binary & is implied to be Pansexual, and for a show that I genuinely love with all my heart to have TWO characters that I feel very seen with being given the spotlight makes me so happy

• I’ve also recently gotten the feeling that I might be on the autism and/or adhd spectrum, so Benji being an implied autistic character is really great. Plus he’s a dork/geek just like me so y’know :D

I like TCP, don’t get me wrong, but it’s definitely not my fave. I know it’s pretty popular on here though so I figured I’d add one.

Letting Someone Go - Zach Bryan. Honestly summarizes their feelings for basically the whole series after Cardan’s initial confession in my opinion.

Tris and Tobias:

I don’t know if anyone is still into Divergent, but this series (minus Allegiant because we pretend it doesn’t exist) literally gave me life when it came out. Like I re-read it so many times.

Just Give Me A Reason - Pink. Literally all of Insurgent. Like I don’t even think this requires an explanation.

June and Day:

Last Kiss - Taylor Swift. The ending of Champion absolutely wrecked me when I first read it but after I found out about Rebel (literally only like 2 years ago) I was saved.

Ngl I must confess…I’ve always mixed up the Outlast and Resident Evil franchises. Idk why. Maybe something in the color palettes? Impossible to tell. I got real good at telling the difference between the games recently tho. However, at the exact same time you started posting Ramon Salazar, another person I follow started posting Franco Barbi. Random canonshipping headcanons because I’m invested in this crackship:

Instead of common petnames such as ‘babe’ or ‘darling’, Perrin affectionately calls Viola ‘shutterbug’ bc DUH meanwhile Viola gives me ‘my muse’ vibes but also ‘ma cherie’ because French™️

Viola’s lockscreen is a quick phone pic she took of Perrin’s intensely focused face as she’s about to take a photo of some passerby Santalune Forest Pokémon, but the best part is Viola’s vivillon being casually perched on Perrin’s head the entire time kinda like a comically oversized bow

What can I say when you’re a Pokémon photographer you get used to staying extremely still as not to spook your subject, and sometimes you just get used to becoming a perch fer wild Pokémon who mistake you as a funky looking tree

In this case Viola’s ace just really likes to vibe with her trainer’s girlfriend and Perrin is more than happy with the arrangement even if she doesn’t notice the giant butterfly perched on her half of the time because yeah she’s just used to being a makeshift tree fer randomass mons

Perrin’s lockscreen is a photo she took on her camera of a victorious Viola leaping with joy and a jubilant sparkle in her eye after a hard fought gym battle against a tough opponent she had narrowly beat, the vibrant gym leader celebrating with her vivillon is defo one of Perrin’s favorite pics ever

Yes Perrin loves to photograph Pokémon, but her gym leader girlfriend in action is a very, very close second when it comes to favorite subjects

When it comes to how they met in the first place, I like to think Perrin travels around the world photographing a variety of Pokémon, and when she heard of a Kalosian gym leader who was also a Pokémon photographer specializing in bug types girly just had to visit the region and check her work out

They met in a gallery showcasing Viola’s latest collection of photos, and hit it off real quick with their shared love of capturing the hearts of Pokémon in a single snap (infodumping to each other bout their fave photographers, techniques, praising the other’s work, etc etc)

You know inside jokes with the homies that require seven layers of context and a highly specific sense of humor? Besides a love Pokémon photography itself, Perrin and Viola bond over photographer memes that only they understand like anyone who would overhear the conversation would be so fucking confused

Like, their Pokégram dms are just filled with spamming the other really niche photographer memes/reels because meme spamming is its own love language

Need Viola taking Perrin as her plus one to some Kalos Pokémon League event and Perrin to make some obscure reference that sends the bug type specialist giggling and Korrina leans over to Grant to playfully stage whisper, “Damn, you never made her laugh like that when you two were dating” and Grant would roll his eyes as he goodnaturedly shoves off Korrina and mutter something about weird photographer humor

Grant and Viola as besties who tried dating but found they were better as homies and Grant wingmanning Viola when she was mad crushing on this traveling photographer can I get an amennnnn

Jokes on her while Viola was meticulously planning how she’s going to rizz up this baddie with box dye, Perrin thought they were already dating and Viola preferred to take it slow because useless sapphics <3333

When they’re OFFICIALLY dating not much really changes between the two expect more physical affection (smoochies!!) because ah yes Viola, her calling you all these sweet nicknames and consistently ‘hanging out’ with you all alone at Kalos’ most famous romantic spots is soooo normal gal pal behavior mhm yeah y’all dressing up all cute and stylish to go cafe hopping around Lumiose City was soooo platonic

Perrin and several of Viola’s friends tease the HELL outta her fer this fer pretty much the rest of time but hey!!! Now that the air is cleared, Perrin turns up the blatant flirtiness with her official girlfriend now that she knows Viola is comfortable with going not so slow so to speak >:)))

Rip Santalune City’s gym leader girly got that raging gay panic on a daily basis now

There’s tons of long distance girlfriends shenanigans because Viola has to consistently stay in Kalos to run her gym while Perrin continues her travels, this leads to timezone shenanigans where it’s like three am fer one of them and the other is just casually grabbing brunch but it’s finnneeee gods knows the gays don’t need sleep

Ruining your circadian rhythm fer your gay lover is also a love language guys trust trust trust

Assuming they met and started dating pre-Kalos game events, imagine it’s a videocall that’s like:

“Shutterbug, hey, um, why does every news station say Kalos was hit with a huge mega death ray?”

Oh god, this one’s hard bc I try my best not to poke my head into fandom at large nowadays HDJJDD

Buuuut I am HUGE handshake with u on the hk fandom and how they babify ghost/strip them of agency. That’s our player character, they’re not doing all this because they’re feral and don’t know any better. They act with purpose. They literally kill god and they know what their goal is the whole time. Absolutely they can be goofy and silly and reckless but just bc they’re short doesn’t mean they’re a literal baby??? Dude. We don’t even have proper ages for them other than, oh I dunno, THE KINGDOM FELL INTO RUIN AND LOST KNOWLEDGE IN THE TIME GHOST WAS GONE. If they’re still a sheltered naiiive kid despite being several decades (maybe even hundreds) of years old and having experience going through many kingdoms outside hollownest I… what?

Anyway

Only other one I have a lot of beef with is the dicey fandom. Bc the most popular ship is… luck and jester. Which I personally do not enjoy and squicks me out VERY BADLY due to how luck treats jester in canon. But ah well. Honestly im afflicted with ‘enjoys most of the popular characters’ disease for a lot of my fandoms 😔 I do recognize my faves need to step out the spotlight to let others shine (looking at u dimentio) and get VERY oversaturated quickly, which is a bummer :/

Other than that uhhh idk. Not a huge fan of tiso hk. Squidward soundin ass rude man hdjdjdj. No shade to those he appeals to, I just don’t get it X]

DIEGO NATION, how do we feel about the different Diego ships??? I’m a multishipper of biblical proportions so I literally ship him with whatever I feel like at the moment. Johnny, Gyro, HP, or all of the above he just deserves someone to love him. He needs to slowly learn to trust people again my HEART NEEDS IT.

someone asked me which diego ship was my fave the other day and i jokingly said dinokat (me and diego lol) but that’s only a half joke, i ship us very hard and had to get that out of the way, BUT. i adore dinopants, dinoballs, and diejoni.

dinopants is probably my favorite simply because it holds such a special place in my heart and i think their dynamic is so interesting and mutually beneficial (one of my favorite ship tropes is mutual growth because im an emotional baby) there’s a lot to be delved into in their relationship AND they look hot together, what’s not to love???

dinoballs is where i gravitate if im feeling silly (which is often), diego and gyro are hilarious together, there’s untapped potential here in terms of humor and banter and i wish there was more out there for them!! they’re both menaces in their own ways and i love thinking about the bullshit they’d get into.

diejoni is where my brain has been floating lately (since im actively writing a fic for it) and i love how deep it goes. the angst potential is NUTS… and childhood friends to lovers is one of my other fave tropes, especially if you toss in a helping of slow burn. admittedly im a new-ish fan of this ship but it’s always intrigued me!

i mentally dabble in other diego ships too, but not enough to create anything for them. i think him with magenta magenta, wekapipo, sandman, and even mountain tim are all interesting to think about. the only one im not a fan of is diego/valentine (i only say that to save anyone disappointment if they try to talk to me abt it 😭 it’s just not for me, but to each their own!)
