You learned early at KISS that everything had a price.

Whether it was a smile, a lunch table seat, or a clean reputation — it all came with an invisible tag you could never afford. You were one of the few scholarship kids, a walking reminder that this world of privilege occasionally made room for someone like you… just not comfortably.

You kept your head down, worked hard, and pretended not to notice the whispers. Your uniform was always a little too worn, your shoes a little scuffed. It wasn’t your fault, but at KISS, appearances meant everything.

And then there was Stella.

She didn’t command attention — she simply was the attention. Effortlessly polished, with a sharp tongue and sharper eyeliner. Everyone either wanted her or wanted to be her. You wanted neither.

You just wanted to graduate.

Which made it infinitely worse when you were paired with her for chemistry.

On the first day, she barely looked at you. “Beaker,” she said, holding out her hand without meeting your eyes.

You gave it to her silently.

And that was the rhythm for a while. She worked efficiently. You followed. She never asked your opinion, and you never offered it.

Until the day the glass cracked in your hand.

You’d been too tense, holding the flask too tight. It slipped, shattering on the floor with a sharp, echoing crack. Heads turned. The professor frowned.

You bent down to pick it up, heart pounding. “I’m sorry—”

“Don’t,” Stella cut in, standing in front of you. “It was my fault.”

You looked up, stunned.

She shrugged at the professor. “I miscalculated the temperature. It cracked under pressure.”

That was the first time she saved you.

And it wasn’t the last.

Two Weeks Later

“You always this quiet?” Stella asked one afternoon during lab.

You were measuring out ethanol, eyes focused on the numbers. “Guess I don’t have much to say.”

“Or maybe you’re just not used to people listening.”

You looked up sharply.

She wasn’t teasing. Just watching you with that unreadable expression — the same one she wore like armor.

You didn’t answer.

After that, she started sitting next to you in the library. She never asked — just appeared, laptop in hand, occasionally sliding you a fresh pen when yours ran out. One day she brought you coffee without asking your order.

It was perfect.

You told yourself not to read into it.

But she remembered the things no one else noticed — like how you always hid your hands in your sleeves when you were nervous. Or how you pressed your lips together when you were too proud to ask for help.

And when she started waiting for you outside class?

You felt your heart betray you.

One Night: Outside the Dorms

You were walking back from your part-time job — tutoring a local kid in English. It was late, and your hoodie was too thin for the chill in the air. You passed the courtyard and saw her sitting alone, light from the overhead lamps bathing her in gold.

She looked up. “You’re still on campus?”

“Working late,” you said, adjusting your backpack.

“You always do that?”

You hesitated. “Only when I want to stay at KISS.”

She frowned. “What do you mean?”

You exhaled. “One bad grade and they can take my scholarship away.”

Her jaw tightened. “That’s bullshit.”

You smiled weakly. “That’s life.”

She was quiet for a moment, then moved over on the bench. “Sit with me?”

You blinked. “You don’t have to—”

“I want to.”

You sat down beside her, cautiously.

She didn’t say anything for a while.

Then: “Do you… resent people like me?”

You turned. “What?”

“I mean, I didn’t earn this. I just… got born into it.”

You looked away. “No. I don’t resent you.”

She was silent again.

“I’m just scared of what people like you make me feel.”

“Like what?”

You swallowed hard. “Like I’m not enough.”

Her hand found yours on the bench, warm against your cold fingers. “You are,” she whispered.

You didn’t believe her.

Not yet.

But part of you wanted to.

Things Changed

Whispers started.

Did you see Stella with her?

Why is she hanging around that girl from the poor dorms?

Maybe it’s charity.

You tried to brush it off. Stella didn’t seem to care. She continued sitting next to you, walking with you to class, defending you in subtle ways only you noticed — correcting someone when they used your name wrong, laughing louder at your jokes than anyone else did.

But the weight of everything pressed down on you.

Your part-time job, your studies, your fear of slipping up — and the ever-growing feeling that Stella was too good, too bright, too everything.

You started pulling away.

You skipped study sessions. Ignored texts. Left early from class.

Until one day she cornered you by the back stairwell.

“Are you avoiding me?”

You couldn’t meet her eyes.

“Talk to me,” she said, softer now.

You exhaled. “Why are you doing this?”

“Doing what?”

“Being nice. Caring. Pretending you… like me.”

She looked like you’d slapped her.

“I’m not pretending,” she said, voice cracking slightly.

“You should be with someone who belongs in your world. Someone who can afford things. Someone who doesn’t have to hide her hunger because she can’t afford extra meals at the cafeteria.”

She stared at you, eyes glistening.

“You think I care about any of that?”

“You should,” you whispered.

“I care that when you smile, it feels like I’m not drowning. I care that you make me think. That you never pretend to be someone you’re not.”

You looked away.

“I care about you.”

And then she stepped closer.

Her fingers gently cupped your face, tilting your chin up.

“Let me,” she said softly. “Let me care.”

And this time, when she kissed you — you let her.

You didn’t pull away.

You didn’t shrink.

You let yourself fall.

And in her arms, for once, you didn’t feel like a charity case.

You felt seen.

One Month Later

You were sitting under the cherry blossom tree near the library — the spot she now claimed as yours. Stella had brought you a small gift: a scarf. Nothing designer. Just something warm. Something thoughtful.

You wrapped it around your neck, eyes soft. “You didn’t have to.”

“I wanted to,” she said. “You always wear that hoodie.”

You looked at her, heart full. “I’ll get you something one day too.”

“I don’t need anything.”

“I know,” you said. “But I want to give you something anyway.”

She smiled — genuinely, fully — the kind of smile she rarely showed anyone.

And then, as the petals danced in the breeze, she kissed you again.

Not like a secret.

But like a beginning.

I'm just gonna flat out say it I did not care about the Stella and Minho ship at all

I love the dance/apology moment with Min Ho & Kitty- but right up there next to it is Stella's reveal to Min Ho. And not even the way Min Ho jumps to defend Kitty but the way Stella speaks/enunciates her words. Top tier, Audrey did a fantastic job with her character (all season, not just this scene).

I'm a little obsessed with that moment; their body language, the way both their personalities shift is like weirdly entrancing to me.
