Man, I'm really sitting here having to decide which martial art (more specifically and almost certainly form of Kung Fu) I plan to probably dedicate AT LEAST the next year maybe even the foreseeable future depending on how much I like it and how life goes cause - for the first time in my life - I don't really think I plan on moving anywhere SIGNIFICANTLY far away from where I am now for a while and while moving around this city and maybe even the state might mean Id have to change dojos and martial arts again like... in my current plans I don't have any certain demands that I'd have to so its completely reasonable to assume I can probably dedicate to one style for at least a year or two for once and I'm just like

Man...

Like I *really* loved Wing Chun and of all the martial arts I've tastes and explored (Karate, Kendo, Aikido, Muay Thai, Boxxing, BJJ) Wing Chun by FAR is my favorite by like LEAGUES and on one hand, if I could dedicate several years to Wing Chun and maybe even one day become a Sifu with the time dedication, I'd be SO fucking happy.

That said, the Wing Chun dojo near my place is of a more traditional-value Mo Yat Lineage where as the one I was practicing before was of a more modern-value driven Leung Chung Lineage and if it was the SAME dojo I did a year ago, I'd easily dedicate forever back to it. The dojo I checked out this weekend has a very notably different and almost inverted focus which has a lot more of a focus on the forms first THEN drills and sparring (traditional learning style vs the previous dojo that started with the drills, then sparring, then forms which is considered a more modern learning style for those that just want to learn the practical basics) and a lot more of a silent and quiet learning style, which is actually really neat, but it is different from what I am used to and it would take some culture shock to adjust into and relearn what I've learned in my first Wing Chun Dojo. And so I am a little hesitant to fully commit to taking on that adjustment to learning style, culture, and method. I have no real issue with the change in approach cause honestly, if I want to dedicate long term, focusing on the forms and what not is probably better to getting a genuine and more whole understanding of the art as well as the culture within it.

But TLDR on that, I'm very interested but hesitant and scratching my chin at it because its different and so while it'd still get me there, it does nerf a bit of my innate "OH FUCK YEAH IM IN" vibe

But there is a SECOND layer of consideration that makes this a complicated decision, but my area also has a Shaolin Kung Fu dojo which has me ALSO interested cause a far off not REALLY genuine bucket list but arguably the only thing on my bucket list other than making the comic is to do the one month monastery program at the Shaolin Temple and I am very interested in the Shaolin style which I haven't done much of and so my eclectic martial arts loving self is very curious and my XIV brain is so torn because Shaolin Kung Fu is WAY less practical than Wing Chun so thats a bit of a boo, but it also is way more ACROBATIC than Wing Chun and performative which is a bit of a treat so it makes my XIV brain go ASDFKLjdskfjls WHY MUST CHOICES BE MADE

But also an interesting thing that has me interested in Shaolin Kung Fu is that where as Wing Chun is pretty hard to seperate from the very aggressive, very "lethal" focus - Shaolin Kung Fu is hard to separate from Buddhism as Shaolin Kung Fu was one of the OLDEST forms of Kung Fu made originally to defend Buddhist temples from raiders back when those temples were considered some of the most valuable locations. And for those that don't know I love my Buddhism and the Buddhist culture and atmosphere, so I'm kind of interested to see how those two can fuse better and I'm like hmmmmmm

8. i have answered!

17. what do you do when writing becomes difficult? (maybe a lack of inspiration or writers block)

usually if i can’t write it’s because i’ve done the autism neglect thing again. a total lack of interoception means that i will sometimes go for too long without performing body-maintainence. so, when i’m struggling to write i go take a nap or i go outside or go get my ass kicked in karate.

i (for better or worse) have many different ideas on the go at any given time, so if one won’t happen for me i just switch to another, tap out little bits. usually doing that will let me trick myself into working on a story properly.

and of course sometimes i’m just not ready to write a scene. i think i’ve not been ready to write ligaments for a few months just because of what specifically i have to write, and also second-person being both addictive and difficult to transition too, with a totally different structure (in terms of how i have to think about composing sentences) than close third. sometimes a scene is too personal, or i don’t really understand the emotions in it enough to describe them, so i need to spend time dipping my hands in the blood of a scene to figure out what it’s made of.

68. what, if anything, do you do for inspiration?

oh well my favourite form of inspiration is to just go and do some research. today it’s numismatics, dental science, king louis XIV. but sometimes that doesn’t work, or more often it’s useful when i’ve already got ideas.

i simply cannot plot anything out while i’m sitting still, so for that flavour of inspiration i go out walking in the plains, where you can stare all the way to the horizon or go visit the tower my dad used to abseil down the side of when he was sixteen. there, i’m under no pressure to think about anything at all, save not accidentally chasing sheep out into oncoming traffic (they are so stupid and so scared).

oh but probably the greatest source of inspiration itself comes from my friends and from communities i’m a part of. writing in isolation is something i find quite difficult, though i’ve done it before. it is by and large much more fun to write in a space where you can go on endlessly about your ideas to other people. inspiration from love or something i suppose.

Leave it to Rihanna to leave the internet in disarray (and spark engagement murmurs) over a TikTok of her feet.

The Barbadian billionaire made her second TikTok, joining last year's adorable reveal of baby RZA. In the latest, Rihanna struts in a pair of Amina Muaddi x AWGE heels while wearing a 9-Karat toe ring by XIV Karats.

The caption? "Quiet luxury."

While I'm still trying to figure out if this was shade towards the quiet luxury trend (which is quite loud, if we're being honest), let's focus on the things that matter: the fact Rihanna is just casually flexing a diamond on her toe which is reportedly worth $1 million.

Rihanna doesn't even wear it on her Morton's toe, or second toe. Nah, she saves her $1M flex for the middle toe — a subtle reminder of her savage ways of giving zero f*%ks. In case you didn't get the memo with her Y-Project earrings.

In the Tiktok, which now holds over a million views (like the price of her toe jewelry), you'll also notice a few flashes of white fluff from Rihanna's outfit — it's the same iconic Chanel outfit worn ahead of the Met Gala.

While we were hung up on how Rih nailed the theme before the red carpet even opened, gemstone wholesaler Julia Hackman Chafé made a Tiktok, dedicated solely to the Barbadian billionaire's XIV Karat toe ring (the same jeweler made her bespoke "Mom" diamond ring, by the way).

"When someone asks me what success means, I'm gonna tell them success is not about money, it's not about health, it's not about happiness. Success means wearing a 9-karat diamond on your toe and not even caring enough to post about it," Chafé stated in her video shared on May 1.

25 days later, it appears Rihanna does care enough to post about it. The rumors of celebs (and their teams) watching our videos and reading our tweets just might be true.

A few comments seem to believe the bad gal just quietly announced her engagement to A$AP Rocky by way of her whopping diamond ring icing out her toe.

If true, I can't say I'd be surprised by this move from the stylish couple who once fictionally (or was it?) said "I do" with custom grills. Not to mention, Rocky's already got a ring made in Rih's honor.

If we've learned anything from the two's mic-drop baby announcements (like this year's Super-Bowl-turned-baby-reveal), it's that the pair is full of surprises.

At the same time, does this mean Rihanna made toe rings fetch again just in time for summer? I mean, it's no secret she's an influential fashion icon (she undoubtedly revolutionized maternity style).

(tw: mild allusions to physical abuse cause that undeniably shaped how we all approach things irl and was a decent part of our childhood trauma, 3/4 parts have roles directly related to protecting that)

((EDIT: We actually group 3/4 of these parts by their differing aspects in how the three of them pretty much took over our household and basically beat our dad growing up into not being physically abusive.))

OKAY so heres the breakdown. Our system has a few pacifists / not as combat charged parts that wouldn't be fun so while me and Lucille front regularly and have participating in trainings and can fight, we are generally not confrontational enough usually to really have much of a spotlight on us in this question - vulnerable parts that haven't expressed interest in participating in this blog won't be included and parts that don't front regularly enough / haven't participated in combat IRL for us to have a judgement on will not be included as we aren't sure how much their personality matches with their irl fighting style and all.

We are actually into combat sports, we are not gonna play with egos, we want to judge on actual known and proven facts on irl situations.

With that in mind, we have four main players always up for debate here.

In CORNER 1, we have Aderis. The original primary protector and original person to respond to physical abuse in the household, she has the most established experience as the archaic feral tigress turned mother bear. Having literally made terms with the possibility of having to murder our dad in self defense at the young age of 3, she has very little moralistic qualms when it comes to life and death as well as survival of the fittest. Having started at a young age in an informal environment, she has very little direct methodology to how she throws hands and cares very little for theory of practice of combat. Smart with knives and clawing, pulling and biting - law of the jungle is her way of going about things.

In CORNER 2, we have Ray. The primary gatekeeper and recently forfeited physical abuse protector. Originally being the part driven most intensely into formal and structured martial arts in 2012 with Karate and returning us back into it in 2020, Ray is very calm and controlled with how he fights. Taking a much more defensive and controlled methodology and a philosophy of do no physical (and legal) harm but maximize psychological damage, Ray - while able to pack a punch - is best at restraints and knocking people prone, often resorting into moderately long term damage should simple restraints not work. Even so, preferring in the simple yet sufficient boxxing as a style (paired with BJJ) he still picks a good punch. However, despite his philosophy, he is hardly a pacifis; afterall, he is well known for his first line to our fiance being "I am considering whether or not I should break your arm".

In CORNER 3, we have Aya / The Crackhead. Our local little and other primary gatekeeper is deceptively adorable, but for as young and small as she is, she is a viper. While not suited specifically for handling physical conflicts, she herself holds an intense ability to hold grudges and territorial nature that, when paired with her intense hyperactivity, makes for an intense fighter. In practice and while walking she has time and time actually displayed some of the best innate form and fluidity which works well with her inherently chaotic and rather random ways of doing things. While the least experienced of the three, her dexterity and lack of predictability makes her a valid contender to the professionals.

In CORNER 4, we have XIV, the local lycanthropic hemophiliac (technically Aderis is too, but). Often joked as the nightmare love child of Aderis and Ray as well as "Riku's Dark Side", XIV has an intense drive for combat and once started, has an active blood thirst. Driven by an instinctual drive to maim and dominate, XIV doesn't think much when he fights so much as he goes with what feels right. The place where this differs from Aderis is within his active special interest in combat methods and extensive intent and interest in training his body as well as the particular interest in Wing Chun Kung Fu that capitalizes on muscle memory for both defensive and offensive purposes. With one of his earliest functions as a part being the domination and intimidation of a long running abusive father, XIV has a high intimidation stat and is almost entirely dissociated from the emotions of fear as well as having a heavily muted awareness of body pain and strain. This often leads him to have the double edge sword of being hard to beat, but also prone to breaking his own body in the process. Where XIV lacks is formal experience and self control. Being as his role centers on intimidation and less on actual fighting, XIV has been in less actual head to head serious fights compared to the elder fighters in our system of Ray and Aderis. Additionally, as a result of his lycanthropic nature and excessive domination drive, he is prone to falling into a status of "pisser" where - according to Ray - he becomes "stupidly predictable and aggressive", the same condition which has driven him to walk out at 2 AM hoping to get jumped.

And so with that in mind, we USUALLY say XIV or Ray would take the cake on any hand to hand fight solely because Ray has strong defensive capabilities and keeps a very cool and collected head, and that XIV actually has that AS WELL as the feral aggressive nature as well + being completely fine with the concept of murder and maiming.

However if this allowed for weapons it would probably be XIV or Aderis and they are the only two that practice weapon combat and know much on bladed weaponry.

Aya is rarely genuinely considered but she's always in the corner of a "what about the wild card".

As for the most interesting XIV against literally any of the other three would be great to watch. Cause Ray with anyone else would be a shut down since Ray is really good and specialized at shutting down rage fighters (Aderis) thanks to our Dad and Aya PROBABLY couldn't beat him unless MAYBE in weaponry. Aderis wouldn't fight a child.

But XIV vs Ray would be great cause they're specialists and refined active martial arts people. Ray is called XIV's "coach" for a reason, so it would be Coach VS Disciple

XIV vs Aderis would be great cause it would be the fight of the wilds

XIV vs Aya would be great cause of the sheer chaos of it. (That plus the two are factually the funniest parts in our system so it would have the oneliners and zinngers and jokes of a fucking WWE / AEW)

XIV vs Ray would be hard to call a winner on

XIV vs Aderis would *probably* lean towards XIV since Aderis has been entirely retired for 3 years and XIV is too nerdy about combat.

XIV vs Aya I can't really predict cause thats too much chaos.

But ANYWAYS, this is a long running discussion we've had for years among the system and this is the general breakdown.

XIV, Aderis, and Aya would do a fight to the death. Ray would probably try to avoid a fight to the death and would likely just go for a restraint until the other person gives up and the show gets boring XD
