I've said a couple times on here that I stand by the fact that TOTK isn't rewriting what happened in past Zelda games (specifically Ocarina of Time and Skyward Sword) and I've only just realised that there's more to back this up.
if you read past here and nothing makes sense feel free to ask for clarification <3
How many sages are in Ocarina of Time? Seven. How many are in TOTK? five.
two sages don't have a counterpart in this new Hyrule, and a whole new sage is added instead.
In Ocarina of Time there are seven sages: Light, Forest, Fire, Water, Shadow and Spirit, with Zelda simply being called "Seventh Sage" and having no defined title in Totk? there are five: Light, Fire, Water, Lighting and Spirit. Zelda is also seemingly a Sage in totk too, given the title of Sage of Time (I think)
So that's Saria and Impa who have no counterpart as well as a whole new sage being created in TOTK- lightning, that role is taken up by the Gerudo but in Time, the Gerudo take the title of being the Sage of Spirit. Saria/Forest not showing up in TOTK makes complete sense, wouldn't be much sense in having a Regional phenomenon based on Korok Forest & having a Korok sage wouldn't make as much sense as just cutting the Forest Sage completely.
Shadow makes a little less sense to cut, there's the Depths for one, which could easily house a shadow temple (it already houses the Spirit and Fire temple) and with the ring ruins falling in Kakariko village with knowledge of the sages, it'd make sense to have a sage of Shadow be a sheikah like she is in Time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~ this isn't even the first case of the Sages showing up more than once, In Spirit Tracks the Sages show up as a collective of people from the Lokomo Race, where there are Six of them
They appear in Twilight Princess as a group of Six ghostly men who guard the mirror of Twilight,
and in "Link Between Worlds" there are also Six of them, transformed into paintings by Yuga.
and also wind waker, where things get a little messy since Makar, a Korok is a sage of Wind and Medli is the Sage of Earth.
anyway, Sages appear all over the Zelda timeline with no set race or powers representing them, the only important thing about them is that they all play a role in defeating Ganon/aiding the Hero of Hyrule and the Hylia reincarnate.
okay i got an idea, do you think this works?
sages past:
fire = goron water = zora wind = rito thunder = gerudo spirit = mineru light = rauru time = sonia shadow = / earth = / - ((ganondorf)) (the plan wasnt yet finished so the search for someone suitable was still ongoing when the end started)
sages present: fire = yuno (fire boom thing) water = sidon (long range attack/ or just adding element on weapon + damage boost) wind = tulin (wind gust) thunder = riju (lightning strike) spirit = purah (guardian laser? or sth related to tech) light + time = zelda (she has a shield, you get time gimick) shadow = koga (teleport)
((earth = ganondorf, cataclysm + general tree theme with miasma))
keep in mind i just want to make it seem plausible, theres no way to put anyone into a clear role and im taking the enigma stones as just a power boost to whatever magic someone wields rather than anything super divine (in this game)
so again its just supposed to be believable, i could match koga for almost every single one of the powers tbh, im taking feedback on this of course, but still theres no perfekt solution sadly
Who knows what Gerudo culture or fashion would have evolved into by 'Rule's time but it's nice to think about him getting to experience a bit more of it in another universe... Before BLYGanon sours it for him... Also been thinking about that Great Fairy of the desert...
#the more i think about Rulie details and lore. the more fun little bits i find about if he were indeed Gerudo#walks death mountain without fear of the heat. no thought for swimming but can sail#that spark of magic- fire like koume. lightning like urbosa#the red Triforce mark. an attunement to Power even if he's got courage in spades too....#lu hyrule#or. blood like yours! lu Hyrule. BLYrule if you would.#my art#alt text#first picture is more first game rulie. second is more post sequel i feel#pulled from the game sprites and then the guidebooks art for the first one#which was interesting#since the first couple of players guides were made years before any games with the Gerudo planned#id honestly want to describe the aesthetic of Impa and the Sages- what we'd later assume to be Sheikah#to learn more... Gerudo tbh. colors and drapes. which would have interesting implications to what happens to them in the downfall timeline#as opposed to them in ww tp or fsa#but here i gave impa more sheikah colors to contrast with Rulie's#anyway. hypnotizing nin10do to give us a Gerudo link..... any day now....#none of these designs are set in stone or anything. im just thinking out loud... spinning this idea around because i guess i didn't enough#already lol.......... pls make 'Gerudo!Hyrule (Linked Universe)' a tag..... pls look into it's potential.......#also yeah. been calling him BLYrule in my head but! once other aus use it it too! will have more options and branches and nicknames#gerule? no i dont like that#someone give a better name than that#huh. these colors look different on my computer from phone.#these were not all drawn the same day. or even week. so inconsistency yeah...
I LOVE WILL WOOD!!!
we shifting the status quo a bit as i present something new: a non art post!!!
i’m on a long car ride and decided to have a little fun. i took the titles of songs from each will wood album and formulated ludicrous stories out of them! all the titles are there, some very on the nose compared to others :0)
-reads the notes - oh you also headcanon Linebeck to be related to the sage of spirits?? Who's the family member or is he just related to Nabooru?
Oh, yeah- in Phantom Hourglass specifically, (and for the purposes of my post-ph concept) I headcanon him as being a distant descendant of Nabooru.
It's a slightly more recent headcanon? I've been on the fence about it for a while and just a couple months ago decided to actually tack it on as another headcanon.
📖 being a sage
Journal Entries || Open!
It happened again. At least this time it wasn't in public.
I was reading Ganondorf's journal and I came across some passages that mentioned a being called Demise. I only experienced a split-second of confusion, wondering why the normal word was being treated as a proper name. I didn't even have to read further to understand. To know who this being was and his importance in Hyrule's history. The blanks were automatically filled in with knowledge, perhaps even memories, that are not my own. I had to stop reading for the night. Just the information subconsciously supplied to me made me...less eager to keep going. That curse...I feel like I know where this is going...
It was no less jarring than the last time this happened. Perhaps moreso since the last time was just that I could speak on a historical context I never knew about in a meeting with the rest of the Sages. Maybe I should ask if the others experience this, too. If they do or have in my presence, they don't seem as perturbed as I do. I've never seen them become a wolfos whose tail just got slammed in a door...
✨ Wisdomverse x Smash ✨
< Prev | 15 | Next >
Masterpost
It’s time.
I finally get to talk about Smash and the Zeldas :).
How this wacky little fighting game series represents the LoZ gals and influences them in Wisdomverse— explained under the cut!
Exactly four Zeldas make an appearance as playable characters in the Smash Brothers franchise, spanning different games and decades.
[OoT] Lullaby: Melee (Zelda and Sheik), Smash4 (Sheik), Ultimate (Sheik)
[TP] Dusk: Brawl (Zelda and also Sheik somehow), Smash4
[ALttP/ALBW] Fable: Ultimate
[ST] Phantom (a special case): Smash4, Ultimate
Funnily enough, there have also been four Links in Smash, although they’re not quite from the same games as the Zeldas.
[OoT/MM] Time: SSB64 (Adult), Melee (Adult and Young), Brawl (Young), Ultimate (Young)
[TP] Twilight: Brawl, Smash4
[BotW/TotK] Wild: Ultimate
[WW/PH] Wind: Brawl, Smash4, Ultimate
Now, Smash is just about as non-canon a game as Hyrule Warriors— and we all accept Wars and Artemis. And some Zeldas arguably have more of a chance to display their skills in Smash than in their own games.
Therefore, I’ve peripherally incorporated Smash into Wisdomverse:
Characters who have met each other in Smash will sometimes recognize each other from there, as if they’ve met in a vague dream. They may also forget. Such is the ephemeral world of Smash to its players.
To keep things fair, Smash connections and story will not be relevant to the plot of Wisdomverse.
Each mainline Smash Zelda also gets one of the three Golden Goddess skills from their Smash moveset to use in Wisdomverse, based on their personality and events from their actual games.
Charismatic, dramatic Fable gets to blow things up with Din’s Fire — like how Fable and the sages blast through Ganon’s barrier in ALttP
Steady, calculating Dusk gets to defend against attacks with Nayru’s Love — reminiscent of the twilight pyramid encasing her in Hyrule Castle in Twilight Princess
Quiet, stealthy Lullaby gets to teleport short distances with Farore’s Wind — like how Sheik (technically Requiem, not Lullaby) vanishes ninja-style in Ocarina of Time
And there you have it! Rebalancing the Zeldas, one skillset at a time :).
Extra:
For the truly dedicated folks, here’s a further analysis of interesting (and intentional on the part of the devs) Smash x Zelda facts:
Despite clearly looking like Dusk and not Lullaby, Brawl Zelda is able to turn into Sheik in both the plot of Subspace Emissary and in battle in Brawl. She loses this ability and goes back to normal in Smash4.
Despite clearly looking like Twilight, Brawl Link is shown with Navi in Subspace Emissary.
Wind is clearly Wind, and not Spirit, because he has the Wind Waker as a taunt in all three Smash games he shows up in.
Wind uses some of Legend’s attacks. And some of Time’s attacks. Wind is a dirty rotten move stealer (affectionate).
Phantom isn’t technically playable, but both Fable and Dusk summon a phantom to fight alongside them, and neither of them have seen a phantom in any of their games. Also, while their phantom summoning skill is recharging, they have a purple glow around their hand. Therefore, I’m inclined to believe they’re literally summoning Spirit Tracks Zelda (Phantom), like Robin summoning Chrom for his Final Smash, and you technically control her, so close enough.
In Melee, Young Link is clearly from MM, while Link is from OoT. This means Young Link is older than Link (just Time things).
Always a bit puzzled by people saying that anyone who wanted long-term consequences for TotK Zelda's sacrifice are "edgy".
I'm not even particularly in the camp that she should have remained a dragon forever (I think this should have been Ganondorf's fate, it would have been sooo much more impactful than to explode him and move on but anyway). To be honest, I wish the rules for turning back would have been 1) clear 2) active gameplay on the player so that it feels like it's something we have earned, and 3) not make her have amnesia about it and/or at least having her gain some crucial insight because of the experience.
(also: doesn't she crave knowledge? isn't that insanely mean to have her watch over every civilization and every bit of history ever and then take it away from her? kind of dislike how totk privileges the comfort of the player's feelings over what the characters would actually want or need tbh)
To be perfectly honest, I fully expected us needing to turn her back before engaging Ganondorf so we would fight him together, especially since Zelda as a compagnon exists in the game code already (though in a very subdued state). It feels very very strange to me that all of this mechanic of Sages following us existing and yet we never have the very climactic cool Zelda-staple moment of facing Ganondorf or Ganon together (OoT, WW, TP, ST and probably more that I'm forgetting all did this in some way --even BotW had Zelda more involved than in TotK). I'm not sure Mineru was a compagnon that was needed over Zelda honestly, especially given the kind of non-insight she gives us on the zonai (even if the idea of the mecha is cool, it really could have been Zelda using her zonai + sheikah knowledge to pilot one for us or something).
But anyway: yeah, even if this isn't what I would have wanted personally, I think wanting Zelda to remain a dragon is kind of arguably more respectful of her relationship to Link, in a way, that what the game ended up doing. When she enacted this sacrifice, Zelda decided to trust him to such a extent that she lost herself, reciprocated his trust in her and his devotion to her, and now the future of Hyrule exists beyond her and beyond what Hyrule once was, but she trusts them to follow through and be happy and she will watch over them from the stars moving on. It's fine if we manage to save her from that fate, but even if we don't, honestly this sounds like a beautiful story/tragic romance to me, if you want to read it that way. Tragedy doesn't necesserily involve edginess. Fictional pain isn't always mean, or out to get you.
Some people get SO mad about Aus where Ganondorf is a good person are so weird.
Ganondorf suffers racist writing. "The man in the desert" as your main villain is kinda..hmmm..racist! But even in zelda, Nintendo (before botw/totk) gives MANY hints that the royal family is DEEPLY racist that abused and used sheikahs (to the point of near extinction in oot!) and kill gerudoes for shits and giggles. The royal family is a murderous death cult that uses the other races. Gorons were insanely racist because of the royal families' influence. Daurina literally says he hates gerudos. (The chamber of sages was tense when Naboruu entered, I'm sure)
If people want to reclaim Ganondorf to make him a good guy (or hell, keep him evil) they can do that. It really rubs me the wrong way when people get uppity over an Au. "Ganondorf has to be the big evil! He's the worst! He's the BAD GUY" Bro, that's boring! He can't always be the bad guy cause even fans lament they want more of what Wind waker showed. A man apart of an oppressed race who wants to save his people. That was LITERALLY his goal (atleast oot/ww/twilight princess, totk Ganondorf has rather shit writing)
Ganondorf is so much more than a villain, and the royal family should be challenged.
Please just..think.
