welcome! this is both an introduction and a general announcement post for wuwa's upcoming release. all info is under the "read more" button.

this post includes what wuthering waves is, when it releases, things to know, and about this blog generally.

what is wuthering waves?

wuthering waves (or wuwa) is an upcoming open-world gacha game by developer kuro game, most often recognized as the developer behind punishing gray raven.

the game has equally large focus on story, exploration, and combat. though its core functions are very similar to another game, genshin impact, wuwa strives to create its own fully unique take on the formula, with a post-apocalyptic and sound-centric world accompanying an almost souls-like combat system at certain points.

when does it release?

wuwa has been in development for approximately 3 years, seeing two separate closed beta tests and various other smaller scale tests along the way. but luckily, the game releases on May 22/23, 2024!

(22nd for PST, while most other timezones will likely see a release on the 23rd. the exact time is not yet known)

things to know

it's recommended that you pre-register for wuwa if you're interested in trying! at the time of writing, there's an event in which all players can receive in-game benefits depending on the amount of pre-registrations.

about this blog

this post (and blog's creation) is following kuro game's program from march 29th, 2024, in which they showed off new trailers, responded to feedback from the last closed beta test, and announced the release date!

i created this blog pretty much entirely for personal use and housekeeping, but it'd be great if this blog ended up as a resource for others as well. :)

I saw PrettyBusy's Recent Announcement on their News section and I have some opinions...

1.)

Whomst the fucketh is upset??? About the datamining specifically??? That shit's outta left field cuz what the fuck??? So amongst the sea of emails complaining about the Pancake Shop and consecutive Nightmare Pass and lack of Main Story content, they zeroed in on the datamining 'issue' that's been 'upsetting so many players'. Ayo what??? And that's not including the possible emails about bugs and all that.

I don't have definite proof of it but my gut feeling says someone's been snitching.

Also notice that they didn't mention Twitter/X. It's possible they consider other social media sites as external communities since they mainly post on Twitter/X. But if this is such a serious and important issue, why haven't they made an official post on it over there??? (as of making this post, they still haven't made an announcement) My theory is that most of their JP and KR players are on Twt/X and they might agitate that fanbase cuz they were also upset about the recent changes to the game.

3.)

Enhancements on the game client, sure. But there's still the storage issue??? I forgot the specific term for that problem im sorry, but like, WHB is 8.48GB on my tablet. Wuthering Waves is 13.08GB. HOW??? And I haven't even updated the game since the Nightmare Pancake update.

I refuse to give two shits about their compensation for this "issue" because that's not what the players have been asking to fix/address.

PrettyBusy is slowly, legitimately turning the game into a hellscape for the players.

Each and every update takes away the joy imo. The simp and thirst is strong towards the characters but that doesn't mean we're gonna take all their bs without complaint.

We've tried to voice our concerns but it looks like they wanna keep shooting themselves in the foot with a shotgun.

Still, please be respectful when emailing them. Let it be as strongly worded as you want but don't send threats.

wuthering waves: small-scale beta (april 2024)

this post includes information on a newly announced small-scale closed beta test.

the official wuthering waves discord (join link) has announced an upcoming beta test for feedback on localization starting april 18th through the 24th! please see the original post:

this test is not to outsource localization fixes or anything similar to testers, and is more-so to receive feedback on the localization quality (varying from, of course, typos all the way to whether certain sentences or tooltips make sense, flow correctly, and generally do not sound strange in a given language).

the survey to apply (which you can take here) closes on april 7th, and asks information such as what devices you can take the test on, whether they meet or surpass the game's spec requirements, how much time you can devote to the test, your current occupation, and what interests you in wuwa / in applying.

you do not need to be a discord member to apply (as far as information currently shows), but you do need to be 18+

I know someone already made this joke but i wanted to see it as a drawing – i mean, id say it’s a perfectly accurate portrayal of percy’s situation as we approach act 2 so i’d say it’s fitting for an anniversary gift lol. i wanted to add anubis too buttttt the initial sketch was done before i found out about his announcement so i didnt wanna adjust the whole thing again :,)) BUT, he shall be in a separate fanart <3

It’s not as polished as I would like it to be but it's already been a week I think T-T ? and there was the anubis fanart too so i rushed this one a bit. i didnt wanna be too late. my gachas already got me too distracted T-T

How I feel about Wuther waves...

To be honest, I don't know how to feel about the game. I want to like it, because I have been waiting for this game since it was first announced; I was so excited for it.

I played it since the launch and... Up untill the Moonchase festival. I was a quite disappointed.

I tried to like it, I was told that it's going to be better just like PGR, and was told to wait. But, the jarring issues surrounding the writing and its execution (which is the biggest disappointment) , the fanservice, the world building, and the characters, are all fall flat for me.

I don't know, it feels like I am playing a very different game than what it was marketed before the launch.

The fanservice is too jarring, and the writing of the characters, to me, felt shallow and trope-like. Like, I haven't rolled for a single character since the launch, and the character quest didn't help to convince me to pull. I only got the beginner starter, and the free compensation starter. Xiangli Yao was for free, so there's that. I was only rolling for weapons.

The combat is fun, I would say it's a little easier than PGR, less intense. The bosses are fun to fight. But, combat alone can't really carry the whole game, at least for me, and the open world isn't all that interesting to explore, with fun mechanics or worldly secrets and lore.

It felt like, there isn't much to do besides fighting bosses and grinding. The events are a bit lackluster, it's pretty much recycled combat challenges and modes in each patch.

The overall experience was...medicore, and just entertaining enough at best. The writing was really killing the gaming experience for me, and the fanservice is really the nail in the coffin for me to quit the game. Maybe I am not really about the waifus and husbands for Wuwa?

I couldn't take this game seriously, and I don't know do I have the heart to get back or continue with it.

I really want to enjoy the game and like it, as I can see other people do, but right now, I feel like I am the only one feeling this way? I have held back this opinion to myself because I know Wuwa discourse can get very heated. Especially, with its more hardcore playerbase.

Idk, how to end this? Maybe I might finish up some Wuwa fanfic I have in mind, just to complete it.

Hi it's me. Finished playing main quest in Wuthering Waves so lemme give you a few thoughts on it, and development with the game in general.

First of all I like the length of the main quests so far. Long enpugh to tell the story in proper parts that feel concluded, but short enough to not lose my attention. Overall gameplay for me for most parts of the story so far was like 2 hours I think? Very good length.

The final chapter focused more on Jiyan and the Threnodian more so than the Fractsidus, since their active involvement kinda came to a stop when Scar got arrested. They focused a lot on them in the previous chapter so that was alright with me. They'll save mlre important stuff for later, which is totally alright with me.

Something that WuWa does that I really like is giving us complete trial teams for certain parts of the story, so it felt even more immersive going thrpugh the battlefield with Rover, Jiyan, YangYang and Jianxin. Still a big fan of the combat in this game, I wonder what future characters are gonna be like gameplay wise and how they'll influence the playstyle and meta.

I like that we get scraps of Rover's identity and backstory pretty early on. They make it no secret that Rover woke up on the world before and had a previous life? And also the girl who wakes Rover up/gives them life or so in the very forst scene in game being explained pretty early on is very helpful. I wonder where they will take this story.

Also love Aalto and Encore. Kinda a sucker for quirky child with adult extroverted guy as their guardian who do shenanigens together. They were very fun.

The story boss fights don't feel too hard, which is very nice for someone like me who is only slowly getting a hang of the battle gameplay on mobile. Still have a problem coordinating my exact thumb placement at times. Me problem.

Final boss was cool. Havoc MC is very cool, too. Just MC on general. Still haven't taken her off my team, probably won't for a while. Slays with either Spectro or Havoc. Very refreshing. In hyv games I dropped MC at around level 50 and only took them again later (genshin with dendro and hsr with harmony now).

I'm quite curious to see where else they'll take the story now. The threat of the Threnodian is quelled (for now?) so the one enemy we have remaining is the Fractsidus. There's also the Black Shores ofc, who seem to know A LOT about the world and Rover'a origin. Very funny how I first thpught Chamellya was with the Fractsidus. Must have been the colour palette lol. Loved her though, but I'm curious to find out what her deal is and what she wants from us. They did tell us a few basic informations about Rovers origin and backstory, but its still very little.

There is still Jinhsi and the missing Jue. She will be playablw next patch and apparently Jue will be a new boss? Curious to see where this will go.

Thid leads me to talk a bit about current changes to the game. Because of certain improvements the devs want to implemdnt sonner rather than later they have pushed forward content by 1 week and already gave us Yinlin banner and second phase events. I understand that to a certain extend but I was really worried I wasn't gonna be able to pull Jiyan in time 😭 SO I decided to pull then and there and got an early, which was Jianxin. Wasn't gonna complain but I was kinda losing hope. Jiyan came through for me at like 40 pulls. This game has blessed me with lots of early 5stars until now. Idk if I'll get Yinlin, her gameplay is really cool tho. Gonna take some time to think. Bit since I habe decided to take WuWa more casually than hsr and genshin, where I am careful with who I pull for, I might just make a few pulls on her banner and see what happens.

I'm now at level 31 in the game and still have basically the entire map to explore still. They have announced that controller support is gonna be a thing for mobile in future patches, which means it won't be implemented in 1.1. It's okay, though. I have gotten a good understanding of most controls now and I'm starting to level my characters and look for good builds. There's just so many layers to the character leveling, and having the bosses cost 60 waveplates for the 2 drops you get feels kinda expensive. Apparently they will work on that too? Implement a system tp save excess waveplates when you have reached full storage of them like in hsr and stuff.

Overall having good experiences with the game so far! Really looking forward to future patches, maybe I might also save for Scar? Idk.
