My Stand-In Episode 9

I have like 10min to ejaculate some emotions before I have to run again so lmfao /types hard and fast I adore that after twisted coercive action after twisted coercive action, Ming almost almost almost had his Kinn moment where he lets Joe go. He came SO close. But he couldn't stick the landing. He's going twisted coercion to the VERY END, BABY!!! And I do think in many ways that's a clue about whether he would have been able to let Joe go when he asked in the first life, before the baseball bat, if Joe hadn't gotten the call from Sol and given Ming a justification for spiralling into delululand. I really do think he was close to hearing Joe then too, and honoring his desperate requests to let go. But "close" means letting him walk across the street and then chasing him, not actually releasing his grip. Ming will always be so very Ming <3

Wut pissed me off throughout this ENTIRE episode but I am trying not to relapse to "the NARRATIVE doesn't UNDERSTAND what it's DOING" reactions to characters with his framing and actually just take what's on the screen in good faith. And what's on the screen is a man who never truly acknowledged his own role in getting Joe killed, doomed to make all the same choices and mistakes all over again. While carrying himself with so much unearned self-righteousness and avuncular "wisdom", augh I hate him but yeah. He thinks what he did wrong in Joe's first life is like not yell at him hard enough to keep him from driving off a cliff. Not push an abused, financially desperate man into further isolation with nary a moment of considering trying to support him or even just giving him companionship for the night while he recovered from being fuckin kidnapped. So yeah, it's not surprising he's consistently making the easy choices, the "it's not REALLY my problem" choices, that put Joe back in Ming's grasp again and again. Like okay thank you as a plot device Wut (yes I am a sick and twisted hypocrite lmao), but fuck you fuck you fuck you as a human being.

However! SOL THIS EPISODE! Oh my god this is why I needed to quickly post! The duality of this character! I made FUN of Ming for thinking that Soljoe as a branded pair was any kind of threat, but episode 9 Sol was like "no actually. Audience shipping is reality if we try hard enough to make it be so." The way the lines are so blurred for him between just desperately desperately wanting to be there for Joe and desperately desperately wanting Joe to see that Ming is the wrong choice and Sol is the right choice, and I have strong doubts about how fully conscious the latter is - he knows he still wants Joe, sure, but I think he sees his (nonexistent, sorry baby) romantic eligibility as an opportunity to get Joe away from Ming. If Joe had a partner who wasn't violent and dangerous, I truly believe Sol would back off while harboring his feelings more quietly. But if Joe is single or with Ming? Sol has to try with everything he's got and cannot see the ways that that compromises his support for Joe.

And yet! EVERY time he called out Wut for facilitating Mingjoe (SERIOUSLY WHAT THE FUCK WUT) I was cheering for him. Helping Joe with (Joe-on-Joe) crimes??? Being his lookout??? The crowd ROARED! And there's something to be said for Joe in the middle of the grieving process for his body and life, and Sol being the one who comes by to accompany him the next morning. Again, it's that duality: he is coming because they have a music video to promote, he is coming because he's giddy about selling them as a branded pair and maybe making Joe see him as a romantic option. But being very frank, I think it matters that Joe had someone who knew what happened and knew he was in the middle of grieving be there at his side that morning. I don't think he struggled to wake up when Ing shook him because he was sleepy. I think he was carrying something a lot heavier than that, and you need community to help you carry that burden. And there's nobody trying to or thinking of offering that for Joe except Sol. For partly selfish reasons, again, that's the juice of the character, that that duality is always present for him, but for ME it still matters as a kind of material support.

Lastly, the little glimpse of Yim being bitter and fucked up about Joe's death, and how that went over Joe's head, because he doesn't expect his CHILDHOOD FRIEND to remember him and grieve him. Delicious little detail.

saw ur post about going incognito into spaces and stuff and i wanted to add my own thoughts about my experience of basically being stuck in places where proshippers r hated (not against wut ur saying! i definitely agree that theres no benefits and honestly its not that fun)

the fandom that im currently in is.. very toxic. someone got harassed to the point of having to delete their account bc they "supported" a proshipper (it was literally just them saying that u shouldnt harass this person just bc theyre proship-). a lot of my friends were very supportive of this person and agreed that ppl shouldnt be harassed over shit like that and many of them seem to have similar viewpoints as me (anti harassment and all that) but prefer to stay away from that stuff

the fandom is basically ran by antis. theres a small corner that some ppl have made where they talk about proship stuff freely (love those ppl so much theyre genuinely so nice) but overall its. not the best place to be if ur proship. which is interesting to me bc theres actually a shocking amount of proshippers that just... dont say anything. on my side blog ive had multiple ppl interact that i thought were anti (or at least just. not proship in some way) but would literally go and like all my posts about incest ships of the characters.

and sometimes i think about it and how theres actually a bunch of proshippers but we're so heavily harassed and silenced that we just- dont say anything. but the fandom is small and we cant exactly separate ourselves from it if we really like the show. and i feel especially bad for some of the bigger blogs that ppl love and adore bc i know wut would happen if somehow ppl found out and made some big post or wutever.

i dont pretend to be antiship but i dont outright say im proship unless i really trust that person

im currently trying to make my own lil space with some friends so at least if anything goes wrong i at least have a few ppl but its a bit scary to think about honestly-

Although it can be full of snot-nosed superiority complexes, I do recommend using the AO3 Subreddit in order to find likeminded people for your fandom. The very vast majority of the AO3 Subreddit is proship or at least proship neutral. Antis are generally eviscerated on sight whenever they try to poke their nose into it.

If you have any other fandoms that you are active in or have friends within, there's also no harm in introducing them to your small fandom.

From what I understand the Marvel fandom did kind of the same thing you're describing with the Starker shippers, but they flourished and supported each other anyway.

I know its easy for me to simply say 'do it anyway' as someone who generally could not give a fuck about anyone's opinion of me, but honestly. Do it anyway. Form your little collective. Support each other. Learn how to write and draw and make GIFs so you feed your own portion of the fandom. You physically do not need those people, it just unfortunately takes a bit of effort and means potentially a bit less content until you start really generating your own.

Fandom spaces do not start out from nothing. Promote the shit out of your fandom. Draw people in. Comb through the proship tags and send asks to blogs like mine asking other proshippers to check out the source material.

People in small fandoms are easy to bully because you're so enclosed into this circle of the exact same people. They happen to be the majority in the room and they're weaponising it.

Force them into a bigger room.

🌟 Wish: A Disaster? The Worst Disney Movie EVER? Thoughts from a Magnifico Fan 🌟

After watching almost every YouTube review, I was finally able to watch Wish because they turned it on at my office. and do I think it's an absolutely horrible movie? Do I think Asha's the worst Disney heroine ever?

No and no.

Wish isn't a 'bad' movie and Asha isn't the worst Disney heroine ever. Both were just very badly handled.

I know this is a pro Magnifico blog but let me explain. Asha's not a bad character. She's actually very pretty and has a great VA. Her character 'development' was just like crayons scribbling all over paper.

She not only opens the movie happily providing commentary on Magnifico's system, but SINGS ABOUT IT, then demonizes THE SAME SYSTEM she celebrated just MINUTES BEFORE.

Fast forward to the interview. She and Magnifico share a beautiful, heartfelt talk about her father. It's short-lived and not followed up on. Magnifico confides in her about his wish, only for her to completely ignore him and be like 'ey, so like, grant my Saba's wish yo'.

Maui and Moana had a prettier friendship.

Then of course the whole 'hey, Magnifico, I just sang about your Wish system like FIVE MINUTES AGO but I hate you, you're a MEANIE'.

I'm pro Magnifico but you can hate him for all I care. I think you have to admit there's way more heart and substance in Bolt than there was in Wish. There's way more substance in WALL-E and the two main characters BARELY TALK 😭

Then there's Magnifico. I 100% agree with everyone that said his descent into evil happened so quickly, it was rushed and he felt like a completely different character. Amaya did very little to intervene on her husband's behalf. He pretty much went into a panic attack over Star's arrival and had absolutely NO ONE assure him everything was going to be a-okay.

Magnifico made several mentions as to how everything he did was to keep Rosas safe, and prevent the past from repeating itself. Asha even told him 'that's why I want to work with you' but then they fell out because ??? I don't know? PLOT?

The whole thing about Magnifico's spell being unbreakable was BS considering the entire Disney empire was built on the foundation of true love and friendship and blah blah blah.

The people of Rosas were perfectly content before Asha took down Magnifico's system. Her grandfather said so himself right before she sang 'This Wish'. Outside of Simon, there was zero indication of the people living in torment.

Gabo said something about Asha killing her family and I was like 'wut' 😭🤣

Valentino was just there. So was Amaya for the most part, especially in comparison to Disney heroines like Pocahontas, Rapunzel, Mulan, Elena of Avalor (from a tv show), etc

Asha at one point was like 'this is all my fault, I started this', which was correct, then later on said 'this is all Magnifico's fault'

Evil Magnifico got his magic powers but then just used them to poke people. Disney doesn't really do death often but if he was supposed to be like a classic Disney villain...I mean Gaston DID stab the Beast sooo...

Honestly, the two best characters were Magnifico and Dahlia.

Am I saying all of this because I'm a 'poor widdle Magnifico' simp? No. I'm 100% pro Magnifico but I'd have the same opinions even if I hated him. Or didn't care about him. You can fight me on any of this but

SPEAKING about Sun, SUN/MOON YEHAHAHAHAHAH!!! and oh ohh i TOTALLY agree with the Super Small thing. i think it was a fell first, fell harder situation with Specifically Sun and New Moon. Sun has to be on Moon's lap at least once everyday or else he'll be Pouty.

People who want attention... don't need to pretend to have people in their head to get it. And the attention you would get for that is often going to be negative because a lot of people are sanist and pluralphobic. But as you mention, it's not even the best way to get negative attention when there are so many actual troll-y things you can do.

You can find hundreds of communities online with people who will support you and give you attention for your takes on various topics! Or you can find hundreds more who will hate you if you push the right buttons!

Like I said, I think Ming playing it cool their entire relationship did not do him any favors re: convincing Joe at this late and chained-up stage that he was actually cared about lmaooooo but I am also torn between thinking that if Ming HAD been able to convince Joe he loved him in that moment, Joe would have sincerely fucked him with the chains on, and let Ming keep him there indefinitely as his basement boyfriend... and between thinking Joe's all-or-nothing reaction to Ming's affections was self-protective survival instinct, getting him the fuck out of there even if a small part of him not only wanted to believe Ming but did believe Ming in that moment. Okay so first, take this FWIW, which is, you know. Possibly not a lot!

I think of tumblr as kind of like a mosaic where the borders bleed into each other, so fandoms overlap. There are many different tumblrs.

Probably the most important thing to remember (IMO) is that you are 1000% in control of your own experience here, so curate the fuck out of it.

I think it depends a bit on what you're looking to get. If you're looking for community (fandom based, I guess I'm assuming), it's important to interact. Reblog stuff, that's how we get a rich ecosystem. I personally LOVE when people reblog with tag commentary! Don't forget that unless you're a girlie porn bot, there are real people on the other end of these URLs.

Here's how I do it. When I get something stuck in my head, I tend to search out some blogs to follow. My bar to following is exceedingly low but, and this is key, so is my bar to unfollowing (and blocking). I'll mass follow and start weeding out as I go. I also make VERY VERY liberal use of filtering both tags and content (on desktop, click the lil person top right, then settings and scroll down and it will have a list of what you've got filtered and you can add things there - just know that it's very literal. So for example. I've filtered the word 'cum' but that ends up filtering every post that talks about, say, a documentary - there's probably a fix for that? I just haven't bothered to work it out).

Learning to let shitty takes scroll by is an important skill here. I cannot tell you how many things I see that make me roll my eyes. But, I also do not engage with content that I don't like, which is a personal philosophy as I do not have time, like on the cosmic scale, to hate-read and hate-interact. If I see things I really don't like or make me uncomfortable, I unfollow, and maybe block. Filter the word or tag. I'm all about letting people follow their hearts, this isn't about judgement, but it's my job to take care of myself

tumblr search sucks horribly, but you can directly search for things tagged in a specific way. So like, say I want to find posts tagged as "my writing" - I put in this URL (on desktop): https://www.tumblr.com/tagged/my%20writing (you can just type the tag with a space and tumblr will put the space formatting in) and then you can sort by latest or top. I've never had luck clicking on a tag - like I've literally posted something, clicked on a tag and tumblr's been, like, WUT NEVER HEARD OF THAT BRO TOO BAD SO SAD.

At the end of the day, for me anyway, this is about having fun and choosing where I spend my recreational time. Not to say it's not real life, I've learned a ton here and made some of my closest friends in the world here, but also. Fandoms are just that, fandoms. You're in control of your experience here!

I skimmed through the ep 11 preview and it seems so dramatic, goddamn.

Now I have to wait for like 5 more days for the next ep but the worse part is that I'll have to wait 7 days after ep 11 for ep 12 and then I'll be at in-person work, so won't even get to watch it until many hours after the finale is released.

Y'know ep 9 of Wandee was released yesterday and I haven't watched it but what I've heard about the treatment of SA irritated me, and I'm really hoping this show doesn't disappoint in its last 2 episodes. We're in the final home stretch and I've enjoyed what the show has to offer so far.

I wrote this in the middle of episode 7 and I think my thoughts are still similar: Seeing people say they want revenge is so interesting because I didn’t expect that from this drama, so I’m not disappointed. I’m treating it like Vegas/Pete where Vegas is Extremely Shitty and the show knows he’s Extremely Shitty (as is Ming). However, they give him some stuff that makes him pitiful (hedgehog and abuse from his father. For Ming, it’s missing Joe and playing house while hoping he comes back ig and whatever backstory they'll give him) and while Pete or Joe want to leave and resist, they can’t for long. Vegas doesn’t really get his comeuppance for the stuff he did to Pete (the random guy shooting him doesn't count for me because Pete didn't do it and it wasn't because of what Vegas did to Pete) but in the end, Pete goes back to him anyway and even takes care of him in the hospital. I expect that something similar will happen with Joe; he’s seriously soooo like soft and wants family and doesn’t seem to want revenge, he’ll probably just try to resist Ming but obviously won't be able to, both because he loves him and because Ming's persistent. I hope Ming does Some graveling though; I enjoyed Vegas begging. I know that most people want the before-relationship to be the intense/dramatic part and when they get together, things are solved and, often I’m also in that boat like don’t get with somebody who majorly fucked up before discussing and fixing the fuck up but in the Vegas-Pete and Ming-Joe case, these relationships are way too fucked and unhealthy to neatly patch things up and just Be Good from then on. What I enjoy for VegasPete is Post-canon fics where Vegas fucks up again or we see the toll that Vegas’ treatment has taken on Pete or how they try to figure out their relationship (and their sex life). I think maybe I’ll also be into post-canon MingJoe where Ming’s treatment has fucked Joe up and how they try to fix it or have a relationship because even if Ming changes, it's not like you can just... Forget.

Addition from ep 9: I literally need Tong fucked up so bad though omgggg I cannot STAND that man but I've heard that he doesn't really have anything happen to him in the novel + Mek said the director told him to think of Tong as a good person who is ambitious, so they probably won't give him the villain comeuppence treatment agh.

There are people who still dislike Ming and don't want Joe to end up with him but for me, I feel like me liking or not liking Ming doesn't have any bearing on whether I want Joe to end up with him. Joe fully knows what sort of man Ming is, the show and the audience also know - it's not like some other shows where the love interest is a creep, but we pretend it's romantic or that he's a green flag through and through (forever side-eyeing Prapai in the first few eps of the PaiSky arc and people's reaction to Prapai even though I'm a PaiSky fan). So if Joe wants to stay with Ming even after that, I'll be curious to see how it goes, you know.

I had liked Sol and Joe for a few episodes earlier on but stopped once I saw him fight Ming and not stop even as Joe kept getting hurt while trying to stop the two of them. Ming I know is shitty but if Sol also hurts Joe without caring (and also he's just way too pushy for me - another trait he shares with Ming), then why would I root for Joe to get with him (esp when he doesn't like him romantically) while Joe knows how shitty Ming is but still loves him? It's kind of like Love Mechanics where the characters and some of the audience were talking about how Nuea's a better match. I didn't think Nuea was as much of a stand-up guy as people were saying because he seemed a bit skeezy and very pushy to me (though I can't actually remember much because it's been like 2 years since I watched it). So, I didn't want Mark to choose Nuea or Joe to choose Sol because I don’t think these people are like Good even though they’re better people than Vee and Ming. Might as well get with the toxic man you love and give me a compelling story if the other man is also unlikeable.

Also, I want Joe to top Ming just once. I loved Ming being willing (after kidnapping Joe) and I don't need all my fictional gay relationships to be vers (and I don't necessarily think they would suddenly become vers if Joe tops once lol) but I think it could be interesting.
