October 20th is National Day on Writing! Created by the National Council of Teachers of English, this day was established to raise awareness to the variety of writing styles Americans can engage in and to inspire future writers.

Prior to the creation of Johannes Gutenberg’s printing press in the late 1440s, all documents, even books, in Europe were hand written. Printing allowed for the mass production of information. Printing presses were still rare, however. The first press in California arrived in 1835 but Augustín Zamorano was the only printer in California until 1846.

For today, Howard decided to take a different direction for National Day on Writing. Why write something when you can print it? Howard typeset and letterpress printed “Writing” in 48 point Brush Script font. This font was selected because the typeface mimics cursive handwriting. The Brush Script style of typeface was designed in 1942 by Robert E. Smith for the American Type Founders. This was printed with pink rubber base ink using our Washington hand press.

By happenstance, Vix was there, setting up for a book signing when he spotted WR looking lost and awkward in the romance section. He caught Vix’s eye in more ways than one, so of course he had to go fluster the shit out of WR. WR explodes and fucking dies because a McDonald’s sprite would kill that Victorian man, but also because Vix wants to see him again, so he handed WR a copy of one of his spicer books he’s published, and on the back he wrote “we could make such a beautiful library together”. It’s then that Wolf-Rayet learns that he is actually the author of that book signing before bolting out the doors in embarrassment 😭

• He and Wolf-Rayet speak Latin together!! Vix learned it because he’s a sucker for dead languages and WR picked it up because he’s old as fuck medical terminology is heavy with Latin roots

gavin & freelancer headcanons ♂🎀

gavin and freelancer go on walks every so often and pick flowers to put in each other’s hair and they giggle like little kids 

sometimes when freelancer does anything gavin finds remotely cute, he just softly kisses all over their face.

gavin never fails to fluster freelancer by flirting with them

however, for an incubus, gavin gets flustered quite easily. freelancer ruffles his hair and kisses the tip of his nose? he's blushing. freelancer tells him he's beautiful? he's blushing. freelancer laughs a little too hard at a joke he made? he's fucking blushing

they get insufferable if they’re not around each other for more than a day

they can have little conversations without actually saying anything, just by making little faces at each other (damien sees them do it all the time and he's so confused)

freelancer likes wrapping their fingers around gavin’s pinkie (when they’re on dates, at home, in bed, while hanging out with the gang etc.) and gavin thinks it’s cute as hell

whenever freelancer feels uncomfortable or hurt by anything, they almost never say anything about it. they just ignore whatever it was by laughing and move on

gavin can tell (because he's a demon but also because he's just that observant with them) and stops what he's doing immediately to figure out what's wrong

caelum likes asking freelancer about gavin because of the smile that overtakes their face when talking about him

gavin feels like a part of him is missing when freelancer is gone for too long (and immediately returns to normal after they return) ((damn squad witnessed how bored he was the entire two days they were away once and the second he saw them again, he was all smiles))

freelancer also gets really down whenever gavin is away from them for too long (dear deadass thought they were depressed the first time they witnessed it but gavin hugged them once and they were back to normal)

freelancer and gavin have necklaces with the other’s initial/name on it 

sometimes gavin lays awake at night just staring lovingly at freelancer while they sleep, admiring how far they’ve come and how he got so lucky with them (canon)

gavin and freelancer both take any opportunity to slap/fondle the other’s ass

freelancer has a habit of saying "is it casual?" whenever gavin kisses or does something romantic for/to them and gavin hates it so much because it is very much not casual

they argue every once in a while, mostly small pet peeves (such as gavin leaving his shoes everywhere, freelancer's lack of self-care, just getting annoyed with each other) that escalate into bigger fights

they usually resolve them quickly just by talking because the both of them are excellent communicators

they don't ever yell at each other when they're angry

however, freelancer gets very petty when they're mad and they can stay mad for a while. so even when they're no longer fighting with him, they can stay angry (pouty) for like an hour

gavin doesn't mind, he knows they're not really upset and he takes the opportunity to tease them

sometimes gavin scolds freelancer for not caring about their health or their personal needs. he does it very gently while rubbing their back or massaging some part of their body and without sounding like a parent. freelancer pouts the entire time but they try to listen to him i was in such a specific mood when i wrote this oh my god

both of them get babied by the other when one is having a bad day (or even just for no reason)

freelancer bakes for gavin whenever he's upset or stressed. gavin loves eating freelancer's desserts

freelancer loves teaching gavin children's hand games (like rock paper scissors, patty cake etc.) and they have a handshake

the first time gavin witnessed afab!freelancer on their period, he genuinely thought they were going to die

freelancer isn't allowed to say "it's because you hate me and want me to die" even as a joke (because gavin will get upset, he takes their mortality so seriously)

whenever freelancer laughs, gavin stops just to stare at them with the fondest look in his eyes

freelancer calls gavin a lovesick puppy. gavin wears the name with pride

gavin's eyes glow pink ever so slightly whenever he talks to or thinks about freelancer

freelancer gets irritated quite easily and doesn't even realize it sometimes. gavin finds it funny and just nudges them a little to whisper, "you're so mad right now"

they make out at least three times a day

everytime they're in the pool at damien and huxley's house, they're kissing away in a corner because "he's so sexy with water all of over his body" (the crew is so tired of them)

they're borderline codependent (not in an unhealthy way), freelancer comes home early from classes all the time because they miss gavin

gavin gives freelancer anything they want. if they want snacks or an item or need something fixed, he has it done before they can even finish the sentence. they mention something once and suddenly there's twenty of them on the counter

no matter how many times he does this, freelancer is still surprised

gavin has all of freelancer's favourite songs memorized because they're always singing around him

freelancer forgets they have magic sometimes and asks gavin to grab things for them. gavin taps their head lightly to demonstrate their psychokinesis for a while until they go "oh" and laugh

freelancer says "i love you" for everything, they use it almost as sentence filler

they are both such homebodies (when gavin's not looking for some poor soul to fluster)

gavin helps freelancer dye their hair all the time

freelancer says gavin's name a hundred times a day (he counted) ((it's because they 'gavin' like 10 times at once to get his attention))

it's worse on text (they spam his name)

freelancer used to s3lf-h4rm and they relapsed right after the inversion. gavin always found them and cleaned them up while reassuring them he wasn't mad and they deserved to heal

they feel so comfortable and safe with each other, they don't ever hide their struggles/relapses. always seek the other out for help and comfort

they go on double dates with damien and huxley all the time

imagine growing up, always feeling out of place, having this hole in your chest that you can’t fill so you do whatever to distract yourself from it. some of these distractions are impulsive, some are just plain stupid, but they always end up getting you in a lot of trouble with friends and family. you can’t voice your frustration with words, so you turn to violence because it’s a universal language. you speak with your fists and never your tongue and soon you find yourself surrounded by evil people because that's what you think you deserve. your friends call you tank. indestructible, a war machine, and you can’t blame them for seeing you this way because that’s the only way you know how to act. it’s all you’ve known. 

then he comes along, and while covered in blood with an anger in your eyes so palpable he could taste, he looks at you and calls you darlin’. it was sarcastic at first, but the way it made your heart feel was so foreign you thought it must be from the blood loss. the more you see him, and the more he sees you, to your surprise, he keeps calling you that, darlin’. all traces of sarcasm gone, it becomes sincere. you became his darlin’, and before you knew it, he became your mate.

angel & david hcs because i always miss them

- whenever david wakes up before angel, he’ll fold over his side of the blanket onto them so they’re extra warm

- sometimes angel smells so good david has to fight back the urge to bite them (and vise versa)

- angel often does david’s eyebrows. when they straddle him, he will always run his hands gently up and down their thighs. when they accidentally pinch his skin with the tweezers, angel will rub the spot with their thumb, whisper “sorry sorry” and softly kiss it better

- david has one of those thick ass otterbox phone cases. when angel teases him about it, he’ll scoff “shut up. it’s practical”

- david watches knife/spear making videos while angel showers. when they finish, without even turning his head to look at them, he’ll open an arm, allowing angel to snuggle in close and watch with him

- every single time angel helps david shave, he kisses their face with shaving cream still on his lips. they eventually learned how to dodge his attacks, forcing him to get creative (which results in full-blown shaving cream fights)

- angel likes to rub their head and face on david’s bicep like a cat

- david will cut angel’s favorite fruit and hand them the plate wordlessly, along with a tiny fork stuck in one of the pieces. if they’re occupied, they’ll let out a demanding “ahh” to instruct david to reluctantly feed them

- when angel picks something off the floor while sitting, david will ALWAYS cover the table’s corner to protect their head as they sit back up

- angel likes to spin david’s wedding ring while playing with his hands. they also enjoy bumping their ring with his just to hear the little *clink*

- when it’s time to deep clean the house, angel sets them back an hour by stopping to look through photo albums. after the wedding, one hour became two

Sam / Darlin Headcanons

[In no particular order]

✩ Sam has stretch marks on his hips and across his back from growing so fast after leaving Mont Blanc

✩ Darlin has a high pain tolerance so they literally don’t realize when they’re seriously injured sometimes

✩ Sam has a lot of faded scars on his hands

✩ Sam is the oldest brother, Darlin is a middle child - they both had to leave their younger siblings behind and still feel bad about it

✩ The younger pack members think Sam is the absolute coolest even though they don’t get to see him very often

✩ Sam still has David’s name saved as Mr. Shaw in his phone

✩ Since Sam convinced Darlin to start eating actual food they are BUILT - their muscles aren’t super lean and defined anymore, but they’re noticeably stronger

✩ Occasionally when they’re stressed Darlin will shift and lay directly on top of Sam like a wolf-shaped weighted blanket

✩ Sam hates the question “are you a tea or coffee person?” because people rarely accept his answer of “both”

✩ Darlin was very uneasy about any kind of physical touch after Quinn, especially skin-to-skin, so they almost exclusively wore clothes that covered their entire body for about a year - they feel safe enough to wear tank tops and shorts now

okay so most vampires don’t have scars, due to the super fast healing and shit, whatever injuries they might’ve had healed before they could scar. all except for the mark where they were bitten to turn.

it’s usually just your casual two circles, and normally they’re pretty neat, and intentional looking. Most vamps embrace/don’t try to hide it etc.

but Sam’s is messy and looks incredibly violent, because when he was fighting her she had to bite down multiple times to get a good grip. The bite where she eventually got deep enough to drink is a lot wider usual.

he covers it up the best he can.

Lots of Headcanons #1

Due to recent events I'm writing lots of mini headcanons to liven the mood, starting with my very BESTEST FRIEND @cyc-chilla

Avior

Avior has a drawing tablet he uses whenever he gets stressed, which is a lot.

He specializes in backgrounds, landscapes, and designs/patterns.

He prefers digital art rather than traditional art since it’s more forgiving, but he still dabbles in watercolors a lot.

Avior doesn’t often eat human food since it’s not necessary but when Starlight speaks about their favorite foods, or cooks anything, he usually tries the food, whether it looks appetizing or not.

He played tic-tac-toe almost 100 times to entertain himself in “hell”, and he lost to himself more than half of that amount.

Sam

As a kid, Sam would usually hang out in the nearest park, away from home, and try bringing home critters from there. Whether it was a squirrel, bugs, rabbits, stray cats, didn’t matter. He liked picking them up and trying to take them home. It worked a few times but someone would always find the animal and toss it back out.

Sam was a cowboy for Halloween from the ages of 7-12, and he regrets telling Darlin’ about it every passing day.

He hasn’t bought a new iPhone since 2018.

The only holiday his family spent together was Christmas, and he missed it greatly when he moved to Dahlia. He didn’t celebrate with the House for a number of reasons, so the first one he spent with other people since moving was when he started dating Darlin’ and he felt emotional during the entire day.

Butter Pecan is not his favorite ice cream flavor, he just says it is to make people mad. He still likes it, though

He spent an entire summer when he was 11 selling lemonade and water in his local park to raise money to buy a SNES. He never did have enough to buy one but he had a shit ton of money for an 11 year old.

Him going to Six Flags in Cali was the first and only time he’s ever been to an amusement park.

Porter

When she was alive, Porter got his mother a bouquet of flowers every year for mothers day, with differing handwritten notes. Even after his presumed death, she’d get flowers sent to her home every mothers day, and to this day a bundle of flowers and notes are put on her grave.

He uses a flip phone when calling people he doesn’t like so he can hang up on them by slamming it shut.

He finger guns himself in the mirror

Porter cried when the Queen died

His love-language is gift-giving, so Treasure just has a bunch of real expensive jewelry in one of their drawers because Porter gives them so much of it.

Although he prefers physical touch, and Treasure always delivers it.

Porter wears eyeliner.

Caelum

Cannot color inside the lines of a coloring book

Caelum does not like feeling constricted, so whenever he’s on Elegy he makes his form wear flowy and loose clothes to give himself space

Whenever he drinks kool-aid he rushes to the nearest mirror to look at his tongue changing color

When using a coloring book, he usually draws with a single color crayon, no two colors unless he’s drawing it for his siblings, Freelancer, or Gavin.

He finds bunk beds adorable until it’s time for him to sleep on one

Caelum cannot sleep on a normal day. He can try, and he can pretend, but if he’s not doing it to help someone else, he can’t just “go to sleep”, he’s too excited for anything and everything.

Due to accelerated energy, Caelum (and most Empathy Daemons) flies faster and for longer than other demons.

He gave his physical form braces once, took them off almost immediately.
