not to get on my soapbox or anything but you have given me a great corner to shout from

as a disclaimer I totally understand why people will choose not to read wips and I truly think you know your mental health and what you can stand to wonder about/think about/obsess over/NEED to know a conclusion for better than anyone else

BUT as a writer who almost exclusively posts in wips, people reading them before they’re finished is my life blood and I am so grateful and it makes the writing process so much more fun for me because I know at least someone else is invested in my brainworm of a story?? someone else is enjoying it and thinking about it and I’m putting a small amount of good into the world??

the best analogy I’ve been able to come up with is like:

when you read a finished fic you’re eating a whole meal and that’s great that’s so amazing (especially if you tell the cook you liked it after you’re done). and you’re literally always welcome to eat that meal whenever you want. finished fics are like standing dinner invitations: I am always happy to have you and I mean that very genuinely

but if you read a wip, you’re keeping me company in the kitchen while I cook. and that’s sort of priceless. in some instances, you can even tell me the food needs more spice and I’ll think about it and listen!!! you’re sitting on my kitchen counter as I bustle around my space and we’re talking about what I’m doing and also how I’m feeling and maybe how you’re feeling and it just feels like community more than anything else I’ve experienced in any fandom. like you’re with me in my space as I’m creating food I hope you like. we’re both invested and it’s amazing

and I think in general that’s why wips are a lot of fun and also maybe why the waiting between chapters is fun for you - you’ve suggested that I add paprika to the pot and you’re waiting and wondering if I will, and I’m laughing and hoping you like the soup either way but also wondering if paprika will work with the recipe, and if I can add a bit to it just for you while staying true to the dish I envisioned at the get go.

Adding Vanity Fair to the list of classic literature that I have avoided for far too long, because everyone talked about the serious parts and neglected to mention that it was hilarious.

Why was everyone telling me about Becky Sharpe, the scandalous and shocking anti-heroine (yuck), and never once mentioning the narrator who goes off on wonderfully absurd meta-tangents about the novel's structure and characters? It would be like talking about Wodehouse as if it were all from the POV of one of the scheming antagonists and failing to mention the wide cast of absurd characters and the quirky narration. Why does this kind of thing always happen with British literature specifically? Please let me know when books are funny, I'm begging you.

Never getting over this scene. the chapters right before this of gojo thinking quickly while dozens of people get killed but not hesitating in making risks. all this cool guy behavior only to be completely frozen by the corpse of his best friend saying his name. right when there’s a flashback of jogo saying not even a thousand lives could distract him, but kenjaku knowing without a doubt geto’s could.

Then gojo immediately experiencing for the first time what he just put others through by activating his domain. Reliving years of his past actions and experiences with geto (who marked his “youth”) in just a moment.

Meanwhile, Kenjaku is taunting Gojo for not getting rid of Geto’s body or forgetting Geto when we know Kenjaku fully centered their plan around Gojo being affected by Geto. And with Kenjaku knowing Geto’s memories, Gojo’s last words to him, and the throw away line that Gojo couldn’t destroy the body after JJK 0 despite acting positive afterwards with his students... It’s so heartbreaking, but incredibly written

I've been deep in the trenches of Measurements lately, so here's a sweet little moment from a forthcoming chapter.

[Liv had] always enjoyed giving massages, but doing so for a turian lover was a new experience: one that she was enjoying thoroughly.  She liked learning the feel of his plates and his hide, figuring out which kind of touch felt best on each.  From the satisfied sounds Garrus made whenever she massaged the tension out of a sore spot, he was enjoying this as well.  Liv took her time as she moved down his legs to his feet, pushing away her urge to find out if turians were ticklish.  Instead, she focused on massaging the oil into his ankles and feet, surprised by how similar the muscles and tendons there were to human anatomy.  Once she’d finished, she settled beside him, twisting to get some of the kinks out of her own back. “There,” she said, reaching up to stroke his fringe.  “Did that help?” She rested a hand on his upper back and felt the steadiness of his breath, the way he’d been quiet and relaxed since she’d reached his thighs, and realized that he’d fallen asleep.  She gazed down at him for a moment, admiring the curve of his waist and the strength of his legs, before grabbing a blanket from the closet and draping it over him, careful not to wake him. He barely stirred at the contact, but Liv waited to get into bed.  She didn’t want to move too much and wake him. He was making that purring noise again, and Liv tried to forget everything she’d read about what it might mean about his feelings for her.  For all she knew, it could have happened simply because she was someone he could relax with and had little to do with whether or not he was interested in her romantically. She reached out to stroke his fringe, gazing fondly down at him.  “I care about you too, sweetheart,” she murmured.  “Probably a lot more than I should.”

Chapter 24, the last chapter of CI: Lacrimosa, is here and this story, which took me so many years to write, is finally complete! Also, happy 65th birthday to Ray Romano today! In chapter 24, we delve more into how and why exactly Diego managed to miraculously survive in IA1's beautifully emotional ending and also includes expansions of my vignettes one and six in my 'Five Times Manny Hugged Diego' series since they are canon compliant and becos I headcanon that Manny insisted that they stay with Diego until the morning, which also explains why everyone arrives to Glacier Pass just in time to give back Roshan to his father. Also, a big cliffhanger/hook for CI bk 1 is at the end of this chapter!! CI bk 1 is coming in 2023, so I hope all my readers are excited! :)
