The latest episode of the 5-9 Album of the Month Podcast is here and it’s a big clash of rock giants both old and new! For our latest episode, we look back at five big releases from August and the albums vying for recognition this time around are:
Romance by Fontaines D.C.

Album & EP Recommendations
Ness by Hayden Thorpe
“When going on a sonic journey into the wild, who better to chaperone than former Wild Beasts frontman, Hayden Thorpe. Six years after the disbandment of the acclaimed art-rock quartet, the singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has since firmly established himself as a solo artist, thanks to the stark balladry of ‘Diviner’ and the synth-soaked majesty of ‘Moondust For My Diamond’. Now back with his third solo album Ness, an adaptation of author Robert Macfarlane’s book of the same name, Hayden has successfully crafted his most magical and ambitious project yet. Hayden Thorpe’s Ness ends up being more than just another album. Where Macfarlane’s book was part-novella, part-prose and part-poem, Hayden too has crafted a piece of art that blurs the lines between music, audiobook, spoken-word and classical composition. It’s simply a one-of-a-kind auditory experience, one that whisks you away to a place full of historical dread and natural wonder, which feels all too relevant for today’s world. Through Hayden, Ness Speaks – and it’s quite unlike anything else you’ll hear all year.”

Someday, Now by Katy J Pearson
The evolution of British singer-songwriter Katy J Pearson has been quite something to witness. From her solid debut Return back in 2020 to her ultra-impressive follow-up Sound of the Morning in 2022, Katy has taken sizeable steps forward and matured her songwriting with each new release. So, it is no surprise then that not only is ‘Someday, Now’ her best record to date, but it’s also one of the year’s best too.
Filled wall-to-wall with soaring, string-tinged indie-pop anthems, this is without a doubt her boldest collection yet, where the production throughout is exquisite and the vocal performances remain as sublime as ever. The orchestrated delights of Save Me and It’s Mine Now dazzle early doors, before the jittering riffs of Grand Final and the stripped-back majesty of Someday light-up the back half. However, Pearson arguably saves the two best songs for last, from the melancholic sway of Siren Song to the triumphant, bluegrass finale, Sky.
Overall, this is another all killer, no filler release from Pearson, one that perfectly fits the Autumnal weather, to the point that I can’t seem to stop playing it. A magnificent record that sees Pearson continue to go from strength-to-strength.

Cascade by Floating Points
We have been spoilt for incredible electronic records in 2024, but this new one from Samuel Shepherd, AKA Floating Points, is right up there with the year’s best.
After his much-acclaimed collab album with Pharoah Sanders (a record I personally found quite underwhelming) I’m pleased to say Shepherd has returned to the club for his latest album. ‘Cascade’ is a fitting title too as listeners are treated to an avalanche of sonic splendour, beginning with the dizzying Vocoder club mix and pulsating Key103, before the vibrant euphoria of Fast Forward and throbbing, distorted beats of tracks like Afflecks Palace and Tilt Shift. That said, the pick of the bunch is the enchanting, near 9-minute sonic journey Ocotillo, which begins as an understated dash of ambient electronica before morphing into a racing barrage of static synths.
All in all, one of the year’s best from the genre and an incredible listening experience that will pull you back in for repeat spins.

Dance, No-One’s Watching by Ezra Collective
When your last album not only wins the Mercury Music Prize but also makes history by being the first jazz record to do so, you better believe there’s going to be some pressure on the follow-up. However seemingly not phased at all, the quintet that make up Ezra Collective have returned a year to the month with their joyous third album ‘Dance, No-One’s Watching’, which I’m pleased to say is every bit as dazzling as its award-winning predecessor.
A celebration of music that makes you dance inspired by their triumphant 2023 world tour, the mosaic of global influences is condensed into this incredibly satisfying, groove-tastic concept album, set around a liberating night out. From the West African rhythms of Palm Wine, the gospel guided duo of Hear Me Cry and Everybody, to the cherry on top features from the likes of Olivia Dean, Yazmin Lacey and Moonchild Sanelly, it’s another captivating work from Ezra Collective that will just put the biggest smile on your face.

HOPECORE by Rahim C Redcar
You may not recognise the name Rahim C Redcar, but you may be familiar with his former musical pseudonym, Christine & The Queens. Now officially releasing music under his chosen name, ‘HOPECORE’ is a debut album of sorts for this new identity, after it was first introduced on Christine & The Queens’ projects, Redcar les adorables étoiles (prologue) and Paranoïa, Angels, True Love.
Sonically this new release isn’t a million miles away from those projects, boasting a hypnotic collection of synth-soaked sonnets enriched by theatrical, live-sounding production. This rawness of the production is the big fascination point, helping to supercharge these songs so that the impassioned vocal performances and aching lyrics pour out of each bar.
Like it was on Paranoïa, Angels, True Love, at times it also sounds like Rahim Redcar just riffing in the studio, giving these tracks a magical, improvised nature. None more so than on the album’s phenomenal 20-minute centrepiece, OPERA – I UNDERSTAND, which will certainly test the patience of some, but also blow the minds of others. Add in other sensual sensations like ELEVATE, DEEP HOLES and RED BIRDMAN EMERGENCY, and what you have is another towering work of art from one of alt-pop’s true visionaries.

Stream of Life by Maxïmo Park
For more than 20 years, Geordie heroes Maxïmo Park have been one of the UK’s best manufacturers of certified indie bops and, as a result, one of my sentimental favourites. While not all their records have completely hit the mark, their output has generally been solid over that period and their last outing, Nature Always Wins, was one of their best yet.
Now back with their eighth studio album ‘Stream of Life’, the band are looking to build on their creative purple patch with a new record that digs into the complexities of the modern world and human existence. Now, what was special about listening to this record for the first time is that I got to experience it first in a live setting, as the band played the new album in full at their recent show at Metronome, here in Nottingham.
It was a revelation, making me wish more bands would do a pre-release album launch show, rather than a post-release album launch show (although I appreciate this helps more with the chart battles). So rather than reviewing the album here (which in short, is fantastic!), I thought I would share my review of that night at Metronome and experiencing the album for the first time.

A Modern Day Distraction by Jake Bugg
“After his revelatory self-titled debut made Bugg a star, earning him a Mercury Prize nomination, critical acclaim and legions of fans the world over in the process, his subsequent efforts have admittedly been more of a mixed bag. While each of his four albums since have had their fair share of moments, none have had the consistency of his brilliant first outing. Seemingly recognising this, Bugg has gone back to basics on his new album ‘A Modern Day Distraction’, abandoning the more pop-influenced sounds of his previous outing ‘Saturday Night, Sunday Morning’, to instead return to the blues-inspired indie rock & roll that brought him to the dance. While it may ultimately be a solid rather than sensational listen, this is an enjoyable sixth outing from Jake Bugg that marks a reasonable return to form, while also providing more than a few strong highlights. By getting back to what he does best, this is a sizeable step in the right direction, with ‘A Modern Day Distraction’ easily his most well-rounded project since his beloved debut.”

Idiot EP by Bored Marsh
“Bored Marsh, made up of Joe Need (Vocals), Brad Westby (Guitar & backing vocals), Jade Bowman (Bass guitar) and Paul Mason-Smith (Drums), formed during the height of lockdown. At a time when the music industry was facing an uncertain future, these four friends were sharing demos and bonding over a shared love of Oasis’ ‘Be Here Now’. While it may have started out as just a hobby, once Bored Marsh were able to get out and start playing their music live in front of crowds in late-2022, their popularity in their home city of Nottingham quickly blossomed. Fast-forward to today and their reach is now expanding well beyond the NG postcode, playing industry showcases in different cities, festivals further afield and getting their name on national lists of the country’s best unsigned bands. Now with this their debut EP, they are ready to officially make their introduction to rock fans across the UK and beyond. Everything that has gotten Bored Marsh attention so far is laid out tightly on this EP. From Joe Need’s passionate vocals to the dynamic and stylistically varied guitars, the appeal of Bored Marsh’s sound is evidently clear from this first collection. Reflected in Broadmarsh’s recent rejuvenation, Bored Marsh have ascended from the bleakness of lockdown to present the confident and assured band found playing on this EP. While the music itself often remains dwelling in the darkness, the hopefulness is carried in their massive, soon to be realised, potential.”

Song Recommendations
Alone by The Cure
Autumn has arrived and after 16 long years, the gothic kings are back with new music. Their much-anticipated new record ‘Songs Of A Lost World’ drops on the 1st of November and our first taste is the album’s near 7-minute opener. Typically dreamy yet aching with melancholia, it’s an outstanding return from one of music’s true greats.

The Lighthouse by Stevie Nicks
Speaking of musical greats with new music, rock icon Steve Nicks has also recently returned with her important new single, The Lighthouse. Written in the wake of Roe v. Wade being overturned, it’s a hopeful and inspirational track centred on women’s rights. Powerful and hard-hitting in every sense, it shows Stevie still has the gift of shaking the earth when needed.
Listen here
SPEYSIDE by Bon Iver
Announcing a new EP for mid-October, Justin Vernon and Co. have also returned with this utterly stunning new single. As beautifully moving as even their best work, SPEYSIDE marks a return to the understated and stripped-back sound that made their early work so special, with Vernon’s vocal performance as goosebump-inducing as ever.

Living A Lie by The Amazons
Watching Reading-based trio The Amazons grow from promising indie upstarts to one of the best rock bands in the country has been one of my biggest musical pleasures over the last decade. Now back with a seismic new single that marks the start of their new era, Living A Lie may be their most accomplished track to date. With outstanding guest vocals from Ella McRobb, a rumble of stomping drums and typically scintillating / jaw-dropping guitar work from Chris Alderton, it’s just an absolute triumph.
Listen here
The Silence That Remains by The Horrors
After ending their last album with Something To Remember Me By and then giving us nothing but radio silence for the past eight years, I had come to terms with the fact that psych-rock outfit The Horrors may be no more. So you can imagine my joy this week when the band finally returned with news of a new album, ‘Night Life’, due for release in March next year. This first taste is vintage The Horrors too, showing that despite the time away and changes in the line-up, they can still deliver the goods that fans expect.
Listen here
Otherside by Maribou State & Holly Walker
A group that has been away almost as long as The Horrors, electronic duo Maribou State also finally made their return this week. With Chris Davids thankfully recovering from the brain surgery that forced shows to be cancelled and their new album to be postponed, the vibrant and joyous rhythms of Otherside are an early sign that new record ‘Hallucinating Love’ will be well worth the wait, as regular collaborator Holly Walker also once again lends her sweet vocals to the track.
Listen here
Oh Boy by Oscar & The Wolf
With his new album ‘TASTE’ only a few weeks away, Belgian superstar Oscar & The Wolf has been ramping up the single releases in the build-up to the 25th October. The standout has been Oh Boy, the devastating closing track on the album which, based on the singles so far, seems to deal with a tough break-up from a toxic relationship. This song is only made more impactful by the striking music video that accompanies it, featuring home footage of singer Max Colombie in a stirring dedication to his mother.
Watch the video here
Human Frailty by One True Pairing
Another artist continuing the build to his new album is Tom Fleming, former member of Wild Beasts and the genius behind One True Pairing. This latest single continues the sonic shift from the soaring stadium rock that made up his solo debut to a more stripped-back and folk-inspired sound. This latest single is one of the best yet of the pre-released singles, featuring stirring acoustics and a tender, self-aware message of acceptance.

All My Freaks by Divorce
For folks of Nottingham like myself, one of the most exciting album announcements of recent times. In March next year, fast-rising local quartet Divorce will finally release their debut album, ‘Drive to Goldenhammer’. The first track to be revealed from the debut is All My Freaks, with the country-inspired indie-pop track representing everything that is so wonderfully captivating about this band. Get ready for a Nottingham takeover of UK Music in 2025!

Nightcall by Kavinsky, Angèle & Phoenix
And finally this month, while I don’t have a cover for you all this time around, I do have a fun reimagining of a classic. You may know French producer Kavinsky’s iconic single from either Nicolas Winding Refn’s film Drive, or possibly London Grammar’s atmospheric cover. Well now, as first heard at the Paris Olympics back in the summer, the new version with the addition of French indie rockers Phoenix has officially been released, bringing a fun new spin to this old favourite.

Bokumono Survey Results
hello, a little while ago i made a bokumono survey and posted it to the ranch story discord, and then a while later i posted it here to tumblr! it received 102 responses! wow! check under the cut to see the results from it! it's a long one.
Age: 79.4% of responders were 19-30, 16.7% were 31+, and 3.9% were 14-18. No responders were 13 or under, which makes sense, given the survey was posted on two places that require you to be 13 or older. Mainline Games:
Tumblr media
Wow that's a lot of bars! The most interesting pieces to me are the most played games and the least played games. The most played game is DS/DS Cute, followed by the Friends of Mineral Town remake, and then a tie between the original (More) Friends of Mineral Town, all versions of A Wonderful Life, and A New Beginning. And the least played is Hero of Leaf Valley, by a very notable amount. Only 12 people out of 102 played it! The next least are Harvest Moon 2 and 3 for the Gameboy Color.
Spinoffs:
Tumblr media
Not many folks have played any of the spinoffs! Only 48 of 102 played at least one of them. The most popular is Puzzle de Harvest Moon, and, as expected the least popular were the Japan only Satellaview version of the first game, and the Japan only free to play browser game, with one person each. (Two separate people by the way! It wasn't just one person selecting everything) A note, Doraemon Story of Seasons 2 isn't here because I actually set this survey up and started taking responses before it was even announced! I just brought it to tumblr rather late.
Rune Factory:
Tumblr media
Rune Factory 4 (or Special) has been played by more responders than every Bokumono game other than DS/DS Cute?? This was wild to me!
Natsume Harvest Moon:
Tumblr media
Unsurprisingly, the first Natsume Harvest Moon is the most played. From my memory the attitude at the time was a cautious "Well we can give them a shot?" The least played is the mobile only entry.
Favorite Game: The graph for this is almost useless with just how many slices it has. Only 4 games weren't picked as at least one person's favorite, those being Harvest Moon Gameboy, Harvest Moon 2, Hero of Leaf Valley, and Grand Bazaar. The most favorite votes goes to Animal Parade, with 20.6%, followed by Wonderful Life with 14.7%, and Trio of Towns with 11.8%.
Least Favorite Game: Another graph with too many slices to be at all legible. Only 3 games weren't picked as someone's least favorite, those being Harvest Moon 2, Harvest Moon (More) Friends of Mineral Town, and Hero of Leaf Valley. It's amazing to me that 75 responders played (M)FoMT and not a single person said it was their least favorite. The most least favorite votes were given to Harvest Moon A New Beginning with 19.8%, followed by Story of Seasons Pioneers of Olive Town with with 13.5%, and Harvest Moon Magical Melody with 11.5%.
Favorite Bachelor: Almost everyone gave a different answer! Wizard from Animal Parade had 11 votes! Gray had 10 votes and Cliff had 9, though many specified different games for them in which they liked them more, since they've both been in many.
Favorite Bachelorette: Again, almost everyone gave a different answer. Muffy had 12 votes, Nami had 11 votes, Celia had 8 votes. Yes, the top three were all A Wonderful Life Girls. No, Lumina did not get a single vote.
Favorite Part: Mostly different answers, but a whopping 39 people listed the social mechanics or characters as one of their favorite parts! 12 people said farming.
Least Favorite Part: Mostly different answers, but 7 people said fishing, and 7 said mining. Though some specified they only dislike mining in certain games, no such specification was made for fishing.
Rival Marriages: I figured this would be an interesting question as it's a mechanic that's been removed due to people not liking it. However, at least for these survey responders, that doesn't seem to be the case. 75.2% like the rival system, 15.8% like it in concept but haven't liked the execution or pairs in previous games, 6.9% would be okay with it as long as they can turn it off, and only 2% outright disliked it.
Special Candidates: 68.7% of responders like special candidates (such as Jamie, Inari, Wizard, etc), 25.5% don't mind having them around even if the special candidates aren't for them, 5.9% dislike the extra requirements that these candidates come with, and 1% don't like having special candidates in the game at all. There were also two write in answers, one saying they love them and their ridiculous requirements, and one saying that they love them but would like their genders to stop being changed to make the marriage straight (ie, Jamie and Inari) and yeah both of those are a mood.
Game Ending: 62.7% of responders are okay with Bokumono games having an ending as long as they can either keep playing afterwards or just avoid the ending, 14.7% are okay with it as long as it provides a new game plus option, 10.8% like the idea without caveats, 4.9% are neutral about it, and finally 2% dislike the idea no matter what.
Other Games: Finally, we have people listing what other games share the same charm as the Bokumono series to them! If you can believe it, the response that was put the absolute most was Stardew Valley, with 40 people saying it. 2 people specified that Stardew Valley did not share that same charm. 21 people said Animal Crossing. Some other semi popular responses were Fantasy Life for the 3DS, Spiritfarer, and interestingly, Fire Emblem. Oh and to the person who said Moon: Remix RPG Adventure, you win the survey /lh
So that's all! Thank you all for responding, and for the little jokes and whatnot you all wrote in. This was a lot of fun, and some of the responses were so kind out of nowhere and really made me smile. My favorite thing about Bokumono has always been the community, and this survey just put that into sharp focus. It's such a kind group. I hope this was as interesting to you all as it was to me.

(USA based sorry)
I’m definitely speaking into an echo chamber but like.
Nearly every algebra student I tutor ends up with a word problem involving the gender wage gap. And they’re all confounded by it and have no clue.
And a guy in my fucking Calc 3 class was like “wait you guys were serious? That’s real?” When it came up. BRO YOU’RE ABOUT OLD ENOUGH TO DRINK???
It’s amazing what is and isn’t common knowledge. Feminist history isn’t taught past “and then women got their right to vote :)))))).” With occasional mentions of Title IX and the late 1900s waves of feminism. Of course only in in-depth history classes, not general Ed. Wow.
I am not in training to be a historian or a history teacher, but by all that is right in the world I hope it becomes more normalized and common to speak about shit that is LESS than 100 years ago in depth when it comes to American History & culture. Wtf. I swear even when I took AP history* the professor was afraid to touch on that stuff. For some reason (happily) my English teachers were a lot more willing to teach about modern history & minority stories.
And this is just what affects my white anglo cishetallo abled-passing housed female life personally. I cannot truly imagine the feeling of personal erasure & irritation one of comes to other identities & issues that have only relatively recently been resolved, addressed, acknowledged or even only pointedly ignored. I am fucking angry FOR you and can’t wait for things to change. You ALL deserve better. Don’t forget that.
It’s not your job to educate these people or their children (unless you’re literally a history teacher or something) but I want to shake the people who decide these what gets taught until the cowardice & insecurity & thoughtlessness & malice & election-based anxiety shits out of their assholes and leaves their hearts hungering for intelligent, thoughtful & interested discussions on modern issues and genuine history that should not be squeezed into the last pages of textbooks out of fear of offending paper white & paper thin pride.
Human rights deserve attention. Human rights should not have to be a radical talking point. It should be both as natural and expected as breathing clean air & as ingrained and knowable as to be accessible in math problems.
There is so much to be done. And it is exhausting. But please know that you are not alone.
*interesting tidbit below but basically irrelevant to the above post
I took AP america history to learn about the parts of American history that are never, or barely, covered in history classes throughout the grades. Basically, if it happened outside of the Puritans-WWII, it’s got a poor chance chance of in-depth coverage. And while the class did teach me good analysis skills and some interesting facts, it mostly covered the exact fucking periods I mentioned above.
And you know what? Literally right before we took the AP test, our teacher told us “study up on periods 2-7” (im pretty sure there are 9 periods of American history, forgive me it’s been like 5 years) “they never test on 1, 8 or 9”. Guess what the essay questions were on. And guess what time periods 1,8 & 9 are? If you posited precolonial america, the mid 1900s and modern day, ding ding ding you’re the winner! :))))))
(AP classes are worth it if you’re bored and/or trying to cut down on the amount of classes you’ll take in college & thus save money. But a lot (not all) of the AP certified teachers will try to convince you it’s the be all, end all of learning in high school. Also the weighted GPAs are a scam. No one looks at those. If you’re worried about keeping a good average, stick to the class level that fits within both circles of ‘not boring’ and ‘not going to wreck your life’. You can take an AP test and have it count and not take the class. Just be warned it is genuinely difficult.)

You turned off the TV; the news continued to talk about the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D., as well as Brock being wanted; they had already caught Jack.
"Are you all right?" Steve asked as he took control of the TV to turn it off.
"Sure, I was just thinking about everything that's happened; it's... shocking," you said. That was never supposed to happen.
"I know it's all very confusing, and you must be disappointed." Steve took your hand.
You nodded.  The only good thing was that no one suspected you; they still believed you were one of the "good guys." You needed to find Brock, and then...
You still had to think about what you would do; you were going to twist the information as much as necessary to save the love of his life, and you would protect Brock as necessary.
Even if it meant using your powers—powers that neither S.H.I.E.L.D. nor Hydra knew about. The only one who knew your secret was Brock.
You also knew how Steve felt, though you didn't care; you just planned to use all that to your advantage. No one knew what was between you and Brock either, except Jack, of course.
Tumblr media
Escaping from the compound was very simple; no one would notice your absence, and in case they did, you had an alibi; you had communicated with Clarice before; she covered for you, and no one was going to oppose you helping other mutants.
Of course, you used your powers to get Clarice and John to help you find the love of your life.
You finally managed to get into his apartment; of course, it was a place where no one would be suspicious, although it probably wouldn't be easy for him to sneak out, or maybe it would; you didn't know.
There was no one there when you entered. You sighed; he wasn't supposed to be living in those conditions.
Somehow you were going to make it all better; you cleaned up the place a bit; it was a mess.
You took one of the candles you found in a drawer—you had given it to him on an anniversary—and you lit it.
Everything seemed to indicate that somehow Brock had recovered his things before S.H.I.E.L.D. or someone else did it, which reassured you a little. Maybe they could never get evidence of your relationship with him, so no one suspected.
Brock noticed the recently extinguished candle; the aroma was unmistakable. He had to take precautions because there was a possibility that Rogers and the others were there.
"You have nothing to worry about; I'm alone," you said, coming out of hiding.
"Y/N? " Brock was perplexed; he didn't think he would see you again. Even when he saw the news, he was happy that you had not been discovered. Several times, while he was in the hospital, he kept wondering and worrying about not having been able to protect you. What are you doing here?" Brock was not upset, but worried. If no one was looking for him or had evidence against him, he was not going to let you put yourself in danger, especially not because of him.
"No, what are you doing living in such a terrible place?" you questioned, looking around the horrible place.
"I think it's obvious; they can't find me," Brock replied grumpily.
"They took Jack to the Raft."
"I know."
"Half of this city wants you dead."
"Wow. A month ago, the whole city wanted me dead. Things are looking up."
"I can make that change," you said.
"Y/N, don’t..."
"HYDRA abandoned us, I know that, but I also know how to get everyone on our side, so no one would try to assassinate you, nor would you be wanted," you continued speaking.
"Even if you did, how are you going to explain what they did to me?"
"I know who can fix it; remember, I have my contacts; it could be one of the Morlocks or the Underground." "You have nothing to worry about," you assured me.
You would probably be exhausted after trying what you thought, but it would be worth it.
You waited until it was dark so you could go to the old X-Mansion, which was abandoned, but there was everything you needed to make your plan a success.
Tumblr media
After a few hours, you decided it was a good time to return to the compound; it was time to test if your plan had worked or not.
As soon as you crossed the gates, you smiled; you had changed history, and now no one would know that you had been part of the enemy.

A break from our normal broadcasting
“Alright, alright, alright,” I say, mostly to myself.
In a sense, I am a hurricane, some frazzled-looking twenty-something year old, the very image of a young director, with a haircut that can be accurately if not crudely described as “vaguely gay.”
You? Well, you’re the poor, unfortunate fool caught in my gale force winds. There’s no point in describing how you look. You’re you. In paint-smeared linen trousers, sure. But you, nevertheless.
“This is your first time?”
You nod. “Uh, yeah.”
“Okay, great.”
The storm pauses for a moment as I look you over with a critical eye. “‘Kay, it looks like you’ve been to hair and makeup. That’s good, that’s good.” I gesture over to the set where the crew is scrambling about to get last-minute shit in order. “Right. So what you’re gonna do,” I begin, gesticulating with the cadence of my words, “is just. Go on out there. The idea is that you’re an artist—you said that’s something you can relate to?”
“In a sense, yeah,” you say with a shrug that doesn’t really earn anyone’s vote of confidence. It smells like sweat and broken dreams on set, but that’s just a feature of the trade. It definitely is. You don’t know this yet, but I do.
“Perfect. So I’m going to need you to channel that, alright? Because—I mean, you’ve already read all about this, I take it, but whatever—you’re going to be a novice artist. Y’know, a little uncertain but with an undeniable eye for beauty. Yeah, a keen eye. That’s big.”
In your mind, you’re probably taking notes, if that screwed up expression on your face says anything. You might’ve taken them on paper, but you don’t have any paper. This is good because I would have judged you for it, but not so harshly. You nod along, though, looking really, really, really attentive.
I don’t show it, but I sort of appreciate it. Good talent is hard to find in this industry, and my bar is quite low.
“Yeah, because what’s gonna happen is this guy—you don’t really need to know much about him, because your character doesn’t. You two are perfect strangers, okay? So he comes in and he’s the live model for this figure drawing class, okay?” I pause and, in a rare moment of non-exasperated emotion, smile wryly at you. “A nude figure drawing class. Yeah, you’ll get an eyeful, but don’t worry—there are very uh,” I cough, “nice things to see. You’re okay with this, right?”
You’re a bit eager (I won’t remark on it, though) as you nod in the affirmative. “Yeah, totally okay with me.”
I roll my eyes in an aside to myself only. “Good, because it was in the job description. Alright yeah, so just stare thoughtfully at his body, like you’re really seeing to the core of him as you sketch out his features. Shit like that. Don’t worry about the art, though. We’ll use swap-ins from a real artist as needed.” I pause to think about my next words and entirely miss the wounded sort of expression you pull.
“Anyways,” I continue, “the camera’s mostly going to be on your face. Also on him. There are gonna be a ton of flashbacks and shit when all’s said and done, so really, this isn’t about you.” I give you another once over as I catch my breath. You fidget uncomfortably. “Which is a good thing. Low pressure for your first rodeo, and all.”
On set, someone in a worn baseball cap calls me over, and I yell over to them that “I am coming , fuck.”
“Alright, kid,” I say with some kind of finality. “Get on out there”
And so you do. I’m too busy chiding the crew to see you fight back nerves as hair and makeup has its wicked way with you for last-minute touch ups, and then when you fight the nerves even harder (because they get stronger) as someone behind the scenes calls for quiet on the set . I assumed, and started assuming long ago that the camera is breathing down your neck, metaphorically speaking.
“Action!”

░L░I░N░K░
“This your first time?”
“Why—”
“You seem nervous, is all.”
“I’m fine.”
“That’s good. Come here…”
“...Fuck.”
“Fuck...”
“Mmh—”
“Get undressed.”
“...”
“...”
“Okay.”
“...”
“...”
“...”
“...”
“Fuck, you’re sexy. Let me…”
“Oh—”
“Mmmhh-hhh”
“Fuuuuuuuuuuuck”
“You like that?”
“Fuck…yes. Yes, yes, yes.”
“How about this?”
“—God! Oh, fuuuuck. Ghost— ”
“...”
“Wait—”
“Who the fuck is Ghost?”
“No—no one.”
“Sure, sounds like it.”
“...”
“...”
“I should go.”
“You don’t have to.”
“I should go.”
“Right.”

Another break from our normal broadcasting
“Action!”
That’s the cue for the main character to walk onto the set. He strolls in all comfortable, natural, but still poised for eyes—a real actor—and yeah, quite good to look at. Broad. Broad all over, from his build to his jaw, which somehow more than makes up for his height and stupid mohawk. Miraculously, he still looks hot in spite of it. The director wasn’t lying.
You’ll be seeing him naked in less than an hour, you remember, and the thought has you blushing. Almost. Or it feels like it, so you very intentionally look at the sketchbook in your hands and then pantomime readying it along with your pencils. Hopefully the camera didn’t pick that up. Or maybe it would add to the performance, you reason after a moment or two.
He’s stage whispering to the fake art instructor—something about positions or timing. You’re not really listening—by the time your last pencil is sharpened and tidy, and you try to embody this tired, passionate artist as you settle it into perfect place with a few taps of your finger.
From the corner of your eye (because you don’t know if you’re actually allowed to look), the man peels off his shirt, folds it neatly and places it by his bag on a nondescript table, and then does the same with his blue jeans. You forcibly throw your gaze even further off-target when he dips his thumbs below the waistband of his boxer briefs because, well, that feels private.
Slowly, without fanfare (because does he really need it?) he ambles to the center of the room and you do your best to project some kind of nonchalance. You’re an artist who goes to these sorts of things all the time. This wouldn’t phase you. Or would it? Do artists get all shy when the model is sex on legs?
Sex on Legs, fucking curse him, sinks back on his haunches and then lowers down to his knees.
Good god.
The hands are relaxed onto the tops of his thighs, but he shakes out his shoulder anyways, like there’s tension there. Then rolls his neck and eventually settles on cocking his head away from you. Fucking curse him again, he brings his gaze to land softly somewhere on the floor in front of you. He stops moving then, so you assume this is how he’ll stay for the session.
“Cut! Fucking brilliant,” the director calls out, seeming pleased enough but not without any comments. “Stay right there,” they call out before the actor has a chance to turn and face them. Instead, the director walks onto set and hunches down with him, gesticulating around as they explain their vision. You manage to catch the words “thoughtful gaze” and “sort of melancholy” in between nods and head shakes.
All the while, you haven’t really moved. You’re not too sure you’re allowed to. To distract from the feeling of the camera flaying you open, you nudge your pencils in and out of alignment, trying to find something that looks natural.
“Don’t do that,” the director says, somehow having snuck up right beside you. “It fucks with continuity,” they explain, not exactly harsh, but not exactly nurturing either. They run a hand through their gay-looking hair and sigh, “Chill, it’s not a big deal. It’s just. Actually, whatever. Who the fuck even gives a shit? I came over here to tell you that you’re doing—you’re doing pretty well, actually.”
You frown minutely.
“Yeah, the whole shy thing you’re doing is really nice,” they explain, looking away in consideration. Sex on Legs seems to be doing some sort of breathing exercise. Deep in and then hold and then out. In and hold and out. “Yeah, it’s subtle, y’know?”
In and hold and out.
Subtle.
In and hold and out.
“—Lived-in. I want you to bring that to the drawing sequence, alright?”

░I░N░
“What do you mean, what’s your problem ?” John snaps. A fly lands on his forehead and, smart little thing, fucks off before his gloved hand can swat it straight to God.
Ghost shrugs, probably. John is too focused on the image through his scope to check, but his inflection says enough. “Seems like you’ve got a problem, is all.”
“Well, I don’t .” Perfectly imperfect timing, the soreness between John’s legs acts up, and he only manages to half-restrain himself from shifting in the dirt. He’s dealt with worse.
A snort passes over the comms, and then a beat. “If you say so. Can’t say the mission report will look too nice if we get made because you’re too busy dry humping the ground.” Jesus . “Sergeant was overwhelmed by ants in his pants .”
“Focus on the mission,” John grinds out.
“That’s my line, Johnny.”
He had sworn to himself to not let this become a problem. As if it could be anything else. Stupid, stupid, stupid. There’s bare little to distract him from the discomfort—physical and emotional and whatever else. All’s quiet on each and every damn front. Guards passing through the window of his scope, right on schedule, the whole enemy base ticking along like clockwork despite the overbearing humidity.
It’s by no means a challenging mission (“Sitting around in the sun all day. It’ll be like a holiday in Ibiza.”) but that’s what makes it a challenge. Low-stakes bullshit, gathering intel, the waiting and the watching. No action to fill his mind with something other than the unique torture of being a specimen of pathology under a microscope (“If we’re looking for intel, let’s look for intel. An HQ like that’s bound to have something. We’d be wasting our time out here.”)
(“Easy, now.”)
(“Well that’s the fucken problem, now isn’t it?”)
“Got sight of an unmarked lorry moving in from the East.”
John glances across the compound, sees the blessed chariot shudder along the dirt road. “Finally some good fucking news. Civilian?”
“Hard to say—tinted windows. Let’s let them approach.”
“More waiting and watching. Bloody brilliant.”
“What, want to make some new friends, Johnny?”
“Something like that.”
░B░I░O░
Damn, damn, damn.
His leg is pure fucked, there’s no doubt about it. Price is right to give him leave. It’s not like he’ll be back on his feet in any less than 3 weeks, anyhow.
“I’ll let you know if anything comes up sooner, but I wouldn’t hold my breath,” Price explains, arms crossed over his chest. That pleased, fatherly expression is long gone by now, replaced instead by something more exasperated.
“Do you have to fight back on everything?” he had asked.
“Only the stupid things,” John had responded.
“I could be running drills. Don’t need my leg much for that,” John tries as a last-ditch effort. The crutch digs awkwardly into his armpit, but it’s fine. He’d be fine.
Price rolls his eyes. “You’re like a dog with a bone, son. Take the bloody leave. I’m sure your folks at home would be happy to see you.”
John makes to protest, but Price cuts him off. “This isn’t a negotiation, Soap. I’m going to need you to stand the fuck down.”
“Is that an order?” John says tightly. His molars creak, threatening to shatter into dust.
“Can be,” Price shoots back, leaning forward to cut John through with a no-bullshit glare. “But does it need to be, Sergeant?”
“Negative, sir. ”
“Glad to hear it. Now get out of my office.”
“Aye, sir.”
The door to Price’s office is slammed closed more than shut, which is bullshit, John knows. There are no surprises here. He tears down the hallway, crutches tapping and squeaking along, making him feel just as silly as he ought to. By God’s good fucking grace, he doesn’t pass a single familiar face on his way to his room, the door to which is also slammed shut.
Training be damned, his rucksack is thrown onto his bed, the toiletry bag thrown in, too. His shirts and trousers unfold, sloppy, as they get whipped into the bag, as well. John lobs a boot in next, and loses his balance as he tries for the second.
“Fuck,” John hisses, catching himself. “Fuck.”
He could just lie. It wouldn’t be lying exactly, either. It’s not like he plans on calling anyone up to say “Heya, I’m not going to be back home for a month. Just wanted to let you know.” That would be lying.
No, he could just fuck off to anywhere but base, lay low. Maybe go to a museum. If anyone calls, he’ll say he’s on base. That would be lying, but who’s counting? If Price calls, on the other hand, well. That would solve everything, wouldn’t it?
His right hand massages his brows, those small muscles burning as he abuses them. Subconsciously, or maybe not, his fingers seek out the secret little point of contention. The flesh above his heart still aches, but of course it fucking does. It’s no more than 4 days old, and the mark hasn't faded enough to be indistinguishable. It is quite clearly two rows of teeth, inconveniently placed well within the protection of his tacvest. Rather hard to explain that, not to mention the other two bite marks across his chest, and harder yet, the ones trailing up his inner thighs.
That’ll be a detail to add to his profile. “30, 170cm, discreet. No biting or bruises.”
Fucking charming.
Hindsight is twenty-twenty. Felt damn good in the moment, though.

2. Look at YoonA’s latest projects line-up, everything is going well for her ㅋㅋㅋ 7. All are doing really wellㅋㅋ 8. I thought YoonA wasn’t good at acting when she was Saebyuk (in her first lead drama ‘You Are My Destiny’) but these days her acting is really good. Not just as an acting idol, but she's just good at it (acting). ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ I thought IU was good since the drama ‘Pretty Man’ that starred Jang Geunsuk, and for Suzy, Anna, is the best... 9. I watched YoonA well in ‘King The Land’ ㅋㅋ She was a perfect fit ㅋㅋ 11. What? These are all the people I like!!!!! Everyone is pretty and their acting is great. By the way, Yoona's recent works are crazy, they're all successful ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 12. YoonA was so cute in ‘King The Land’ and her acting is so good ㅋㅋㅋㅋ 13. I watched all three of YoonA's latest projects. They were all good. So good. ㅋㅋㅋㅋShe is soaring especially in ‘King The Land’. 15. YoonA is also good at acting and is building up her filmography well. 16. Wow, just look at YoonA’s recent works ㅋㅋ 17. YoonA is really good at comical acting
19. YoonA, you acted so well, so natural ㅋㅋㅋ I'm looking forward to your next work. 20. I’m convinced (I agree) ㅋㅋㅋㅋEveryone's acting is good, and YoonA's batting score (percentage of her success rate) is especially good lately. 22. Wow, it looks like there aren't any (i)dols to remove (meaning OP agrees with all on the list). But it is surprising that Jung Eunji and Sooyoung aren't here.. I guess it's because there are a lot of female idols who are good at acting. 26. YoonA acted so well in ‘King the Land’ㅋㅋㅋ 27. Wow, 1st place for both men and women are ‘King The Land’ male and female leads ㅋㅋㅋ 28. It's freaking that both YoonA’s dramas and movies did well. The line-up of her recent works is insane ㅋㅋㅋ 30. YoonA’s latest works line-up are insaneㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 31. Yoona’s career is insaneㅋㅋ 32. It’s the same with male idol rankings, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places are the ones that always come up when acting idols are mentioned ㅇㅇ 33. YoonA's works line-up is insane 34. I really enjoyed watching Yoong’s ‘King The Land’, it’s my life drama ㅠ 35. Only the people who should have been chosen were chosen. 36. Nodding (in approval) ㅋㅋ 39. Oh, there are all these people who I thought they were good ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 40. They all act well... 41. Agreed 42. They are all good at acting and pretty 44. Her latest work ‘King The Land’, ‘Big Mouth’, ‘Confidential Assignment’ shivering (because of the awesome line-up) 45. YoonA's acting was really good in ‘King The Land’. She was just like Cheon Sarang herself👍 47. It feels like the differences in acting skills among the actresses aren't that big. The 5 people seem to be famous enough to be in the top 5 in terms of influence and reputation. 48. Do well, everyone 49. YoonA is really good 50. I acknowledged 51. They are all well-known faces. 52. I saw YoonA for the first time through ‘King The Land’ and she was really good. 57. YoonA was really good in ‘King The Land’. 63. I clicked in the article shouting ‘YoonA’ 65. Lim Yoona's latest work is insane...;; 68. These are all people I like 69. The votes are more evenly distributed here, so the difference in votes is not that big... The male idols were overwhelming. 71. I came in thinking YoonA would be here, but she ended up in first place ㅋㅋㅋ. 72. (Comment deleted at time of translation) 74. YoonA's acting in ‘The K2’, IU’s in ‘My Mister’, and Suzy's in ‘Anna’ were really, really good. I'm curious about the acting of this three people in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. 76. But this was released yesterday morning and suddenly both articles (male and female) came out as ‘hot’ topics. 79. To be honest, I was sad because I thought YoonA's (drama) filmography was bad, but these days, everything is really good.. ㅜㅜ And the movie filmography is good too. 80. I acknowledge everyone in this article, but it's a shame that Jung Eunji, Han Sunhwa and Sooyoung weren’t included. I really enjoyed Sooyoung's ‘Not Others’. 85. YoonA seems to choose her works well. 88. (Comment deleted at time of translation)
90. Lim Yoona’s form is crazy!!!!!!! 92. (replied to 69th comment) Oh, it looks like they got votes from all over. Female acting idols are also good at acting. 94. Oh, they are all good actors ㅋㅋㅋI also liked Jung Eunji, Sooyoung and Sojin ㅋㅋ 100. YoonA, IU and Suzy's singing and acting careers are all top notch 101. I acknowledged all of them 105. I thought about Bona, but the acting idols in the article are all very good 106. I also thought about YoonA's ‘EXIT’, but it is not her most recent work. 107. I enjoyed everything YoonA has released recently. 108. I came in the article thinking of YoonA. 109. YoonA❤️ I like her very much 112. King-jeong (t/l note: It is a slang to of 킹 (king)+ 인정 (agreed), to describe being full agreement of something) 113. I approved 115. YoonA’s recent career seems really good 117. Approved approved. 119. YoonA and IU, king-jeong. I want to watch Suzy’s drama, why isn’t it coming out yet? 120. We selected the acting idols who showed the greatest success this year and who we are looking forward to in the future. ----------------------- This is the survey topic. 121. I think YoonA’s career is so good 122. I heard about ‘King The Land’ being a huge hit on Netflix and ‘Big Mouth’ also did well, hence it is a back-to-back hit. 125. I acknowledged it 127. (replied to 120th comment) It is in the text ㅋㅋ 128. As expected, YoonA! 129. Ah, YoonA’s acting is good. 130. I acknowledge all of them 131. Approved 132. Ah, I approved of everyone listed here 133. YoonA is good 134. YoonA seems to be in good form these days. Personally, I think Suzy’s ‘Anna’ was the best ever, so I hope Suzy do another such genreㅠㅠ 135. Good 136. Approved 137. I acknowledged everyone listed here, there are people who I am disappointed that they are not on the list, but there is also no one in the list that I objected too. 138. YoonA’s filmography is good. All her works are very good, and she acts very well too. 140. Everyone's form is good, but the acting skills of the female idols are ambiguous. 141. I like YoonA so much 143. (Replied to 140th comment) What?;; As expected, all the malicious commenters are like sh*t. All the 5 females here have a besting acting of their life for at least once, so what are you talking about? 144. Yes 147. IU and Nana are good. No, all the 5 people listed here are goodㅋㅋㅋ 148. For the female acting idols, the votes are considered more evenly distributed. 149. (Replied to 140th comment) ? 152. I’m looking forward to YoonA’s movies and dramas doing well. I’m also curious about the ‘2 O’clock Date’! 153. I agreed with all listed in the article, Nana’s acting is really good. 156. I like Lim YoonA to the point of dying ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ 157. King-jeong 158. YoonA is good. I thought her acting was good after watching her works recently 160. YoonA is so likeable these days. I've seen all of her recent works. Now, she is a ‘trust and treasure’ actress.
161. Wow, all of them are K-pop talent. 163.The 1st place for both male and female are Junho and YoonA, ‘King The Land’ couple is really good ㅠㅠ I hope they both do better. The chemistry was good, and their acting was good in ‘King The Land’ 167. King-jeong to all on the list
168. Wow, 1st place is YoonA, congrats congrats!! 169. The movies and dramas YoonA starred in, all received great success, so amazing 171. I clicked in the article shouting YoonA ㅋㅋㅋㅋI hope things go smoothly~ 175. YoonA deserves the 1st place. Her drama and movie careers are all good. 176. Regardless of her career, Yoona really showed off her acting chops with her ‘Confidential Assignment’ and ‘EXIT’, and she did well in King the Land as well. Nana and Kim Sejeong are rather unexpected, and I think Han Sunhwa or Jung Eunji are better. 178. All of them have improved a lot in their acting so it’s even better 180. I feel like all the idols mentioned in the original text and Sooyoung and Eunji are good at acting. 185. YoonA 189. YoonA has a good way of choosing projects ㅋㅋㅋㅋ 191. These are the actors who were active 'this year', but it seems like it includes only those who can be included... YoonA did well in ‘King The Land, and IU and Suzy are the queens of immense popularity who respond right away in surveys like this even if they didn't have any hit films or activities this year. (Just like stars who are ranked even if they are inactive that year when Gallup selects the best OO of the year...) Nana becomes popular because of ‘Mask Girl’ recently. 193. YoonA! 194. Even though Nana is really good, I recognize all 5 people there. 196. (Comment deleted at time of translation) 197. YoonA was such a perfect fit for ‘King The Land’ this time, so pretty 198. I'm waiting for YoonA's next work 200. YoonA! 201. Acknowledged acknowledged 204. I agreed with all the line-up here 205. Waiting for YoonA's next work 208. Line-up approved... 209. No, initially I thought how could Sejeong be in 5th place only, but as I scrolled lower (to reveal the top 4), the more I understood. 212. I only saw YoonA's works for a few seconds in passing, so I had the prejudice that I couldn't get into the character because I heard YoonA's voice that I used to hear.. I recently watched Exit belatedly and was so surprised that it turns out okay. I finally understand why her movies are so successful and how she gets casted so consistently. 214. YoonA is good! Han Sunhwa too!! 215. YoonA is really good 216. Even though I’m not a fan of all five of them, I acknowledged. 217. Oh.. everyone who are good are gathered here 218. Soshi is YoonA, but I was also surprised that Sooyoung was better at acting than I thoughtㅋㅋ 219. ‘King The Land’ influence is huge. Both sides (male and female) came in first place 220. YoonA is really good ㅋㅋㅋㅋ I watched ‘Big Mouth’ and ‘King The Land’ recently, and she did well in both dramas. YoonA would be a perfect match for a little bit of ‘Big Mouth’ – ‘King the Land’ – ‘EXIT’, a bright, cheerful, confident and u undaunted not in a villain way character 221. The experts voted but there are people here trying to start a fight so ridiculousㅋ What is it? ㅋㅋㅋ 224. They are all good 225. YoonA’s latest line-up projects are really awesome ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
226, Everyone are gathered here, they are all good 227. Oh, YoonA approved 229. Really, YoonA is really good. I think she has star quality, good screen control, and acting skills. 231. If its YoonA, its king-jeong. 232. YoonA is building up her filmography for movies and dramas well. Her acting in ‘Confidential Assignment’, ‘Big Mouth’, ‘King the Land’ were really good. I admit her acting in ‘Miracle’ was also really good. 233. (Replied to 232nd comment) All same as you and ‘EXIT’ too!! 235. Oh my, YoonA's acting was really good. 236. YoonA, approved 238. Agreed 239. YoonA, approved approved 240. YoonA, approved 241. YoonA, I really enjoyed ‘King The Land’. So lovely ㅠ 243. Hehehe YoonA>< 244. All are good 245. Acknowledged 246. YoonA, approved 248. YoonA, approved 249. Oh, they are all good. And popular too. 258. Even if there are people who should be added in, but there aren’t people that should be removed. I went ‘King-jeong King-jeong’ while scrolling down the list. 259. I watched every project of YoonA that comes out after ‘EXIT’. Really, she is good at acting in both movies and dramas. 260. Agreed 261. It's a shame that YoonA keeps getting underestimated because of the disgusting keyboard warriors. 263. I clicked in thinking of YoonA. 264. Didn’t YoonA filmed a drama in the early days of her debut, she did really well in that too. 265. Agreed, YoonA and Suzy are good at acting 266. YoonA and Suzy are both good at acting 267. Agreed 268. YoonA did really well 269. Agreed for all 270. When will YoonA's next work come out ㅠㅠ I want to see it soon 271. YoonA has become someone that can be trust and treasure (to watch). I am waiting for her next work.

Of course that test ask went through fine, lol. I literally don't even know what would've been wrong with the original ask I wanted to send, I just wrote up a short thing giving personal examples between good/bad gameplay vs good/bad story. Sure is a webbed site that we are caught in
Anyway, I think a lot of people have a break point either away. I've put dozens of hours into games with throwaway stories because they were just really fun to play, yet I'd never force myself to endure something like typical WoW-style MMO mechanics even for a story that people are praising from the rooftops (I'd much rather just watch a synopsis, a cutscene compilation, or a let's play)
i mean for sure. my personal reason for making the poll was because dd2 was kind of a disappointment to me in terms of story which soured my opinion on the game of as a whole. the gameplay itself is really good, but the game dropped like 2 points for me from a 9/10 to a 7/10 just because of how awful that story was. but i hate watching people play lets plays bc i feel like the story is more impactful to me if im the one personally experiencing things. which is why i still feel like i don't really "get" pathologic bc i only made it up to day 3 or whatever.
the parameters for voting are whatever people want, frankly

This is probably just TikTok being TikTok and I mean feel free to unfollow if this post bothers/upsets you in any way
I haven’t commented or shared much stuff about Palestine because I am only taking in the bare minimum of info about it atm for my mental health. It is absolutely awful what’s happening but I also don’t want to respond/add to commentary when I am not fully versed on the subject
Anyway, today I see a TikTok talking about Osama Bin Laden’s letter to America and between the creator and the comments I saw/heard mentioning of getting “teary eyed” and how of course we shouldn’t have trusted things from the US lens back in the day etc I was like “wow okay I’m going to go read this because maybe he pointed out a lot of things wrong with the US that were accurate and still accurate to this day?”
So I read a good portion of it but I had to stop because I was getting mad/annoyed. Yes, he calls out then injustices that Palestine and middle eastern countries have suffered. I don’t even begin to deny that.
But the rest of the letter reads exactly like what he was: a religious extremist. He points out several times the shared features of Abrahamic religions but continues to point out Islam is the “best” because it includes all of the prophets. He consistently has a negative tone towards Jewish people the entire letter. And lastly the part that got me the most was he insulted the United States practice of separating religion and state/law.
Not to mention he said American citizens are complicit for everything our government does because we vote them into office. Honestly, the way it read was “all those people who died in 9/11 were guilty so lol bye”
So the fact that Osama Bin Laden even if only for his commentary about the injustices of countries who majority follow Islam is being framed as a good guy?
It’s so gross. He was an extremist and a violent man.
He is and was just as disgusting as the Christian extremists within the US that are constantly trying to change our laws and sink us back decades in progress that we’ve made.
Anyway that’s my like religious/political/whatever commentary for the rest of the year.

Ok. Wow. Boys Planet. ZB1. Many thoughts.
Very happy for our 9 shiny boys! Unfortunately there was no 12 member lineup twist, I knew it wouldn’t happen but part of me thought just maybe it could lol.
Before I discuss the lineup I just wanna say it was so nice to see all the eliminated trainees. WOONGKI BOY!! Haruto!! Seunghwan (and the banner of his own face that he brought lol)!! ollie wonka with two functioning arms!! Wang Zihao!!WUMUTI TI TI TI!! The NINE.i boys!! Chen Kuan Rui, esp his reaction to Hao’s ranking!! And everyone else as well. Boys planet truly would not have been the same magical experience without all of them, even if they weren’t performing on the final stage.
Im so sad for Keita, Jay and Park Hanbin especially. I really hope they get scooped up by wealthy, well connected companies and continue on having successful careers in the kpop industry. I’d def be there to support them! pH-1 is already joking abt working with Keita on Instagram and even tho that’s obviously not a concrete promise of anything I’d love to see something happen between Keita and H1ghr Music lol.
I’m gonna go thru member by member now, in an attempt to organize my thoughts.
1. Zhang Hao
Holy shit !? Hao P1 !? Absolute slayage. I was so surprised. Tbh, this week I was stressing about how his rank might drop because of losing filler votes, but here he is ranked #1 :D congrats to him for making history as the first foreign center in produce/planet history!
2. Sung Hanbin <3
Mother is debuting!!! Not in P1, which was a twist, but still with a very high rank. This man has a really bright future ahead of him and I’m so happy that I get to support him along the way!
3. Seok Matthew
I was genuinely concerned as to whether or not he would debut, Matthew p03 had me gagged fr I was so happy for him. He’s such a ray of sunshine and has great chemistry with literally everyone he interacts with.
4. Ricky
The SCREAM that was SCRUMPT. Would not be surprised if my neighbors had called 911 honestly. So happy for him!! Honestly, it’s between him and Zhang Hao for my bias in the group. Ricky has grown on me immensely since I started watching the show, also I think he has the best fan edits in the whole fandom like not even just ZB1, of Boys Planet contestants in general. For some reason I feel like the group name really suits him? Like if u showed me a picture of Ricky and said “he’s in a group called ZB1” that would make sense.
5. Gunwook
yet ANOTHER pleasant surprise! I obviously knew he was in the conversation but I was expecting him to be up for like 8th or 9th, esp after he dropped in the 3rd ranking. He started the show with such a tough guy image, but he’s really such a softie and I love it.
6. Kim Taerae
Main vocal slay :) can’t wait to hear more of his high notes and see his big smile onstage. Also I feel like the new dark hair really brings an edge to his image that we haven’t seen before. He might be a reverse Gunwook, seeming very soft and cute at first but actually being tougher than anticipated lol. I was nervous for him after seeing he was 11th in the interim, but clearly the voters pulled thru.
7. Kim Gyuvin
I have not been the biggest Gyuvin fan in the past, but I gotta say he’s really growing on me. He’s like a big goofy puppy dog that can dance really well. His reactions to seeing the other trainees winning (especially Yujin) were so endearing! The other day I watched his en garde fancam on loop aksjfgh he does have a very interesting captivating energy and I appreciate that.
8. Kim Jiwoong
Our hyung <3 so happy for him, he’s been through so much with his previous debut but now he’s finally done it. It’s also nice to see someone who is so clearly openly supportive of the queer community in the final lineup. Not to say that the other trainees aren’t ofc, I think they r all allies (if not queer themselves), but like, jiwoong acting in BL and being friends with Holland, the literal only out k-pop idol, is a different kind of support that I’m happy to see. Most idols tiptoe a bit more, but jiwoong actually does things that r clearly in support of us yknow.
9. Han Yujin
Our maknae :) seeing him drop so much was really surprising, for a moment I thought he wouldn’t make it tbh. I’m fairly neutral on him, I think he’s an amazing dancer and has so much potential, but if I’m being honest he wasn’t necessarily one of my picks. I’m not mad that he’s here by any means tho. I know ZB1 hasn’t even debuted yet so it’s kinda silly to be theorizing about what he’ll do after, but hes young, talented and popular enough that I think once they reach the end of the 2.5 year contract he’s gonna redebut and reach success all over again.
So, that’s it! Boys Planet is over! The lineup is announced! Zhang Hao, Sung Hanbin, Seok Matthew, Ricky, Gunwook, Taerae, Gyuvin, Jiwoong and Taerae. Our Bep1er- now officially known as ZEROBASEONE :D it feels so surreal, but I’m so excited to stan these boys.

Hi~♡ please allow me to me to rank and analyze the entire list of writing propositions you put out while I avoid the last chapter of yamqn because I am keeping it to a moment when I can create the perfect atmosphere to read it properly.
1° werewolf!txt au full fic - that one is a little special to me cause the basis for that one was the first of your writings I ever came across
2° necromancer!oc and TaeGyu - the plot just sounds really really interesting and I love the little touch of classic horror and morbid themes i am getting from this one. that hint of a 70's horror sexploitation vibe
3° teaching your best friend Gyu how to fuck full fic - how not to love this one? it's guaranteed quality enjoyment. THE safe bet
4° bear!hybrid Gyu - the little excerpt you posted a while ago got me mad you ended it there. I want more. and bears are very much to my liking in hybrid fic for the contrast of being stupidly fluffy and cute but at the same time deadly dangerous
5° puppy!gyu getting teased by kitten you full fic - love how the synopsis basically implies that we are the pet's pet 💀. aside from that it's a perv!gyu fic with a bonus of fluffy ears and tails.
6° fox hybrid!Jun and owner!Bin - the synopsis got me interested in the dynamics with yeonjun. the idea of him being a arrogant fox for being highly desired and at the same time a cheap overused sex toy for rent... sublime.
7° puppy hybrid!Gyu and best friend kitty!Oc
8° YAMQN priest sequel - let's go sexy priest! the religious macabre is a special kind of subtle horror aesthetic, I love it... the juxtaposition of divine and corrupt, salvation and oppression, inconditional love and eternal existential doom (yes, I was raised catholic lol)
9° YAMQN barista sequel - it has potential, but I feel like something is missing. maybe it's the word barista that is tricking me into seeing this as more basic than it really is.
10° yandere soulmates TaeGyu - for some reason the synopsis reminded me of another fic that had a very similar theme, I really did not enjoy reading that one. I mean, if anyone can do it right it's probably you but I don't know
11° arranged marriage prince!Gyu - I don't think I will be able to read a prince!gyu fic and NOT think of yamqn for a while
12° perv!Soobin - too close to the cannon version of him I have in my brain 💀 (sorry, soobin biased people... don't take that as offense please)
13° senior Oc and yandere!tyun - when I was reading the title the first thing that came to mind was "senior oc" as in senior citizen Oc! straight up retired rich old lady Oc with her young hunk trophy husband that only married her for her money and is secretly trying to murder her... now I want the version I imagined more than the one you propositioned lol
14° stepbro!Tyun full story - not my type of porn category. as someone with giant frankstein of a family tree that has more divorces and remarriages than people... it's a bit uncomfortable.
15° best of the best - not txt
16° high stakes - found myself frowning while reading the prompt for some reason
17° ceo son!leeknow - not txt. and every fanfic that features a ceo or ceo son as the romantic interest reminds of fifty shades 💀 so no thanks
(I already voted on the poll hihi)
~♡anon
good idea. i honestly haven't even read it again after posting it (which i usually do to give myself perspective on what the hell i just did) because i'm scared lmao. let me comment on your comments
so many people came to my blog from that fic wow it's honestly so surprising as that fic was almost like an afterthought that i didn't really expect to get back to
yup we love horror sexploitation in this house lmao. though i'd definitely need ideas on where to take the fic as other than the original premise and the dynamics between the characters, i don't know here to ultimately take it
definitely a safe bet. fluffy smutty goodness
i love this much a lot too but my only reservation is that it's pretty similar to the yandere puppy gyu cabin fic i recently posted. both involve oc getting tricked into mating with her crazy best friend
it is a perv!gyu fic and it is soooo cute. weirdly enough it's inspired by this video of a real life cat and dog lmao
this one was an ooooold request but yes owner soobin basically degrading jun for being an overpriced dildo and jun being offended that this dumb vixen isn't falling for him like all the other vixens is just yum
exactly lmao
this one can go alright or be super dark and disturbing depending on the version you guys choose (if this option even gets chosen)
oh believe me there is nothing basic about it. that's just a front to lull you into a false sense of security before unleashing the classic gyu moves of manipulation and gaslighting and convincing reader she's insane as the story gradually devolves
oh this is actually inspired by one of my favorite fics that i've read. give it a read i'm sure you'd love it too
fair enough, but this gyu is super sweet and adorable
i fail to see the issue 😌😂
lmao i'm all for older readers (since i'm older than all the boys) but not to the level of senior citizen lmao. but i did think of making a sugar mommy au
makes sense. i never had a step sibling so i don't share the same trauma lmao
😂😂😂😂
really? it's actually more of that campy sexploitation horror than even number two since it's inspired by an episode of buffy the vampire slayer
tbf i was considering changing it to gyu (because ofc I would) and it's nothing like fifty shades of grey at all. it's peak bratty sub idol and oc putting him in his place

Well, since my novelette Cancel Toby Chalmers! (copyright me, now) has been sitting around, completed, for nearly 16 months, I’ve decided to share it for free, until it’s later released as part of a Toby Chalmers collection.
Here are Chapters 8 and 9.
Chapter 8
Yet again, his grip on his dwindling optimism weakening by the moment, Toby visited his Amazon Author Page. Only self-published efforts met his gaze.
He’d released improved edits of Fleshless Fingers and all of his bizarro books, and put together another collection, Mementoes of Madness II, to showcase his short fiction. Not being particularly artistic, he’d culled his cellphone gallery for drunkenly-shot photos of landscapes, spoiled fruit, stars and roadkill, and fashioned makeshift cover designs from them. Sadly, none of his efforts had resulted in so much as a single sale.
There’d been plenty of ratings and reviews, though, both on Amazon and Goodreads, each bearing but a single star out of five. None of the reviewers had bothered to read so much as a word of his prose, it seemed. They wrote, “Don’t buy from this racist,” “Each dollar spent on Toby Chalmers’ fiction gives Hitler’s ghost a boner,” “Nazi writers, fuck off,” and similar single-sentence contributions. Many listed black authors who consumers should consider, as if Toby was actively attempting to oppose such individuals. Some of the reviewers’ names he recognized, editors and authors now united against him.
Toby had deactivated his every social media account, hoping that his detractors would find someone new to disparage. But successive searches of his name continued to summon fresh vitriol. Alleged anarchists wanted him arrested. So-called liberals were calling for his suicide.
Only black-hating racists, none of whom had the slightest bit of interest in reading his fiction, defended him. They seemed to have adopted Toby as a member of the far right, though he’d never so much as registered to vote, out of disgust with both political parties.
“Don’t do it,” Toby muttered now, even as he visited social media and searched for his name yet again. The top result, new to him, had already attained over two million views, hundreds of thousands of likes, and thousands of replies and reposts. Wow, that’s the smuggest avatar photo that I’ve ever seen, Toby thought. This dude looks like he had his own cock removed, just so he could blow himself every time he sits down to pee. Why’s he wearing a dashiki? He’s whiter than I am. Joseph McCarthy Jr., huh. Runs Transylvoria, apparently. Didn’t I send that magazine a review copy of Fleshless Fingers all those years ago? Never heard back from ’em, or read an issue of theirs, for that matter. What’s this douche have to say about me?
He read:
A CALL TO ACTION
Hello, hi, and howdy again, my beautifully diverse followers. ’Tis I, your ally in all equality efforts, your genial genius, your longtime pal-o-roony, Transylvoria Joe. By now, you must know that I’d never let a single day go by without connecting with you, my horror brethren. And boy, do I have a sermon for you now.
Remember those terrible days when the literary community eschewed censorship? Straight, cisgender, racially challenged males filled books with their rightwing ideology and profited, flaunting their collective privilege in everyone’s faces. Perpetuating white supremacy, gender inequality, heteronormativity, and even worse, gender binarism, they gave us heroes only they could relate to. Ooh, I’m shaking just thinking about it.
When those authors filled their books with hate speech, claiming that they were practicing idiomatic realism, we, as a society, actually nodded our heads and said, “Well, I guess that makes sense.” Boy, were we ever wrong.
Those straight, cisgender, racially challenged males had us all fooled, you see. They wrote bigoted characters so well because they’re bigots themselves. Those of them who became editors only published people just like them. That’s why we at Transylvoria, along with countless likeminded horror fanatics, have spent the last few years pushing those has-beens aside, so that diverse authors can finally stand up and take their well-deserved bows.
Indeed, we’ve taken great strides forward in abolishing literary inequality. But if you think that it’s time to rest on our laurels, to abandon our egalitarian efforts and let the old guard strike back, I say to you not today!
Think about it for a moment. Sure, most straight, cisgender, racially challenged, male authors have seen their books go out of print. And most right-thinking publishers will no longer consider such men for publication. The problem is, with the self-publishing tools available these days, anyone can invent a publisher on the spot and self-publish whatever they want.
This means that straight, cisgender, racially challenged, male authors can reprint their old fiction, and even print new fiction, with impunity, and steal sales away from the far more deserving diverse authors. It’s sickening, really. One Stephen King is enough!
The onus is on us, united, to balance the scales in the horror lit scene. Books by straight, cisgender, racially challenged, male authors other than Stephen King must be removed from circulation, permanently. Libraries and book retailers, both online and brick and mortar, must be urged to destroy all such books in their possession immediately and never restock them.
No longer should straight, cisgender, racially challenged, male authors be allowed to self-publish horror fiction. No longer should they post short stories to their blogs or social media accounts. Their books’ Goodreads listings should be deleted, as should all mentions of them online. In fact, these guys should never be allowed to refer to themselves as authors again.
We can erase the literary scene’s past mistakes, one straight, cisgender, racially challenged, male author at a time. For our first target, I nominate Toby Chalmers. The man unequivocally stated that he hates black people. Well, we love black people and hate Toby Chalmers.
Contact Amazon today, all of you. Tell them that you’ll boycott their company if Toby Chalmers’ books aren’t removed from publication. Start a petition. March in the street. Recruit others to our cause. Silence anyone who stands up for Toby Chalmers.
As always, Transylvoria pride forever. I platonically love each and every one of you. Air kisses all around.
“Air kisses all around,” Toby muttered. “What a piece of shit.” Can this man and his lickspittles really do it? he wondered. Can they erase every trace of my fiction, make it as if I never wrote anything?
As he read reply after reply praising Joseph McCarthy Jr. and his position, and denigrating Toby as if he was Hitler reincarnated, the notion seemed far less than impossible. All of these insane, wretched fascists masquerading as liberals, he thought, shaking his head. How did society ever devolve to this?
My books can’t just disappear. I’ll beat cancel culture, somehow. For the moment, I’d better stockpile author copies of my books while they’re still in print. Guess it’s time to spend some money on this career” of mine. Yippee.
Chapter 9
“Hey, Shadrach, someone’s callin’ me. Why don’t you run into the store and grab us some juice boxes and pickle-flavored cashews. Here’s twenty bucks. With the leftover money, you can buy some candy or a magazine, or whatever you want.”
“I don’t hear your phone ringing.”
“It’s on silent mode.”
Suspiciously, Shadrach squinted at his least favorite person, as Joe slid his phone from his pocket and pressed it to his ear. “You’ve got Joe,” he greeted. “Oh, hey there, buddy. What’s the good word?” His free hand made a shooing motion.
Reluctantly, Shadrach emerged from the Prius. What’s this psycho up to now? he wondered. His phone screen was dark. No one was calling him.
Thus far, Joe had limited his domination games to his own private property, but there was a first time for everything, and Shadrach didn’t trust him one iota. There were fourteen vehicles in the parking lot. Would anyone protect Shadrach if Joe went on the offensive again?
He entered the supermarket and grabbed a shopping basket. Rightward, flies buzzed in the produce section. Leftward, oldsters lingered to converse with cashiers, though their groceries were already bagged. Those sonances seemed strangely subdued.
The pickle-flavored cashews and juice boxes were easy enough to find—Shadrach had accompanied his uncle on many a shopping errand—and he wasn’t in the mood to purchase anything for himself. Still, the air conditioning felt good on his skin, and he was in no hurry to return to his uncle’s side, so he wandered from aisle to aisle, avoiding the eyes of his fellow shoppers.
Suddenly, just as Shadrach strode past shelves of dry noodles, a stiff forefinger met his shoulder. “Are you gonna buy anything, nigger?” hissed a voice in his ear.
Reluctantly pivoting on his heels, the boy beheld his uncle. Joe had changed his clothes in the car. The black hat and zipped-up windbreaker he now wore were emblazoned with the word SECURITY. Coiled tubing ascended from his collar to a phony earpiece.
Blushing furiously, more embarrassed than he’d ever been, Shadrach begged, “Please don’t do this.”
“I asked you a question, boy! We’ve had a report of theft on these premises! Do you plan to pay for those groceries?!”
Other shoppers had drifted over to observe the spectacle. Shadrach couldn’t read their expressions through his sudden tears.
“I…I have twenty dollars,” he whined, pulling the bill from his pocket.
“Dirty, stinkin’, thievin’ nigger! Twenty dollars was the exact amount reported stolen! I knew by the look of you that you were no good! Put down those groceries and put your hands behind your back!”
“Oh…I’m sorry, Uncle Jojo. I’ll be good from now on. I’ll only laugh at what you say I can laugh at. You don’t have to do this to me.”
“Save it for your court date, nigger! Put down those fuckin’ groceries! Put your fuckin’ hands behind your back! Right fuckin’ now!” Joe now brandished handcuffs and grinned from ear to ear.
Supermarket employees joined the shoppers at both ends of the aisle, swelling the audience to two dozen Caucasians, all of whom crept steadily closer.
“Um, excuse me, what’s all this about?” one elderly mop-gripper queried, squinting through cat eye glasses.
“Oh, don’t worry,” said Joe, “this here’s my nephew. He was actin’ like a racist so I’m teaching him empathy for black people. He’s experiencing but a taste of what they’ve endured in this country for so long. Soon, he’ll love his fellow humans as much as I do.”
Surely, someone will stand up for me now, Shadrach thought, sniffling. They’ll call over a real security guard and get my uncle the help he needs. Maybe my mom can leave rehab early and take care of me again.
But as the grocery basket was torn from his grasp, as his arms were pinned behind his back so that his wrists could be handcuffed, as he was led from the store and shoved into the back seat of his uncle’s Prius, all Shadrach heard was a slow clap evolving into full-blown applause.
* * *
After lunch, after dinner, after tearful trembling in the bathtub until its water grew chilly, Shadrach raged his way across Joe’s guestroom, shrieking into a pillow that he held over his mouth. Grace Jones’ Vamp character bared her fangs on framed posters all around him. Shadrach wished that she’d climb into reality to make a meal of his uncle.
The room, which he’d been staying in ever since his mom entered rehab, always smelled like rotted onions and bad milk, no matter how wide he opened its window. If ever it had been vacuumed, he’d never witnessed it. Neither had the bedsheets been washed, nor the cobwebs swept from the ceiling corners, since his arrival. Shadrach wouldn’t miss the place, he decided.
He’d swiped a garbage bag from the garage, which he now filled with clothes, everything but his hated Transylvoria attire. With grim satisfaction, he kicked the window screen from its frame. He wanted to punch holes into the walls and urinate onto the carpet, but feared that his uncle would burst into the room at any minute and chain him to the bed.
“Fuck you, Uncle Joseph,” Shadrach muttered, climbing out of the window, into the night. “I’ll hate you for the rest of my life.”
