It does kind of make sense that divine intervention still works though. Death didn't stop when the Raven Queen became mortal. Crops flourished, lies and betrayal still abounded. The language used in Downfall was pretty specific about the fact that most of what made the gods the gods was left behind, for them to later reclaim as they broke each seal. Their mortal forms were but an aspect of them. The parts left behind are now just power sources though, where they once were people. The people are down on Exandria. But the power that made them gods stays out of reach by them or anyone else. The divinity is within them as it is within everyone on exandria and that's always been the case. It's just the power that was removed - from the gods, not the world.

I think the worst thing about the c3 finale isn't just the utter lack of consequences - because let's be real, we were all kinda expecting that. It's the fact they actively went so far as to undo consequences from the previous campaigns as well. 10 years of wordbuilding, big choices and huge swings and nuance... all just ignored or undone for the sake of telling a neat and pat 'happy ending' regardless of what the established lore or basic logic would dictate.

And I know a lot of people are hanging onto the silver lining of "oh but what a fun future wordstate" but that just feels... flat to me. Like, why would I bother get invested in future campaigns if I know CR as storytellers are willing to ignore their own lore? That when push comes to shove, they talk about taking big story risks, but refuse to let any of their characters actually live in those consequences? What's the point of any of it?

Campaign 3 was always their weakest, but I still had hope for future campaigns to be good. And to be clear I still think they're CAPABLE but honestly after the finale my faith that they actually WILL is at an all time low. Maybe their choices made sense as friends at a table. But as storytellers - which they bill themselves as - frankly, those choices were cowardly.

She's from a moderately warm climate, so she definitely prefers that to being cold! That said, she's thick and hardy, so actually the worst thing about a cold climate would be having to wear BOOTS

‘Here’s my advice: when someone thinks the worst of you, you prove them wrong.’ <- unbeknownst to me until way after the fact, this whole conversation changed the trajectory of an entire arc by setting an NPC who had abandoned hope and was set to betray his friends on a path of redemption instead, and I have So Many Feelings about it

1) big fight with that fucking prick Roscoe at the Cricket, and the even bigger fallout with her family afterwards; 2) offering to investigate the strange noises in the manor just outside the town of Storm Ridge, a choice which ultimately led directly to her death, and to the strange resurrection(s) that followed-- the ramifications of which we're still untangling; 3) encountering Herself, brought to life by the lich that killed her, and finally understanding the full weight of what that means

So how Abel? 🤔 What's your interpretation of Sera reaction to Adam's behavior? And where's Eve?

Divine Intervention AU (yay)

This is going to be long thanks to my inability to give information without rambling about everything else.

1) Abel.

I designed this version of Abel long before he was introduced in HH, and I took a lot of inspiration from SCP-076. So, my Abel is very different from the canon version.

Abel is on Earth as a wandering soul. Initially, his goal was to take revenge on Cain for his murder, but after a few centuries, he kind of move on. Now he has a more important duty as a guide to the other lost souls.

But for old times' sake, Abel sometimes decides to be annoying and appears to Cain to kick him out of a place if he thinks he's been there too long.

In terms of power level, Abel is below his parents but slightly above the rest of his younger siblings. His main ability is to possess multiple bodies at once. He has more, but that is the strongest one.

2) Sera

In short, because their history is a complete mess, Adam and Sera have a terrible relationship and an even worse opinion of each other.

In this AU, Sera is a minor antagonist. Not in the same way as Lucifer or the Sins, but because her priorities constantly clash with Adam’s, and it has forced them to fight on multiple occasions.

At first, they were indifferent to each other, but their relationship changed after the Great Flood and Adam’s ascension to archangel. It only got worse from there. At one point, they outright hated each other, but because of the conflict with Hell and the exterminations, they reluctantly agreed to work together to keep up appearances.

As for Sera’s opinion on Adam’s behavior, she understands the cause-and-effect chain that led him to become the way he is, but she can’t truly empathize with him. Because of that, she can’t help him, and honestly, she doesn’t want to.

I know I’m making her sound awful (and yeah, she kinda is), but really, they’re both exhausted. If they could, they would go their separate ways and move on with their lives but they can’t. At least not yet.

3) Eve

She’s in Hell as a fallen angel. She fell long before Adam ever got to Heaven and has been trying to stop the apocalypse for centuries, even before the exterminations started.

Eve is just as strong as Adam and has the same abilities, but instead of an axe, her main weapon is a bow and arrows made of holy light. She also has the ability to influence people’s moods with her dance, rather than her singing.

I’m still working on Eve’s story, but I’ve got the basics figured out.

While this disappointing campaign plays out (I'm still listening to it because of job + European time zone) I do wonder what the Betrayer Gods will do now that they seem to be under the same rules as their Downfall selves/consecuted souls. Vecna surely still knows his Rites of Profane Ascension and so will surely attempt to reach apotheosis again, rendering Vax's sacrifice and all of Campaign 1's final arc moot and leaving one singular divinity to rule Exandria.

Will the other Betrayer Gods learn their own Rites of Ascension? Will we see a conquering host rise in the Iron Authority under the command of their Strife Emperor, sweeping over all of Tal'Dorei and placing it under his divine rule? Can the same be said for the Ruiner's many gangs, tribes and clans? Will the Lord of the Hells, Spider Queen, and Cloaked Serpent hide in the shadows and pull as many strings as they can to undermine their Prime siblings?

What of the Chained Oblivion (oh, what of the Chained Oblivion)? Why drop in the eleventh hour that all of the gods did not want it freed because it's not like the rest of them? Does the lack of divinity make its thanes easier or harder to break? It's still a source of divine power! And it's got one hell (or Abyss) of an opportunity to break its chains now that no god can oppose it.

Or, just like the rest of this campaign, will nothing interesting come of the Betrayer Gods' catatheosis and a Second Calamity will not occur because this campaign has twisted itself into unsatisfactory knots to avoid any and all negative consequences for Bell's Hells' actions? Because gods forbid Bell's Hells have to face a single negative emotion for longer than a few hours; gods forbid they realise that the rest of the world matters beyond what it can provide them materially; gods forbid they realise that while Ludinus loaded the gun and cocked it, they shot the damn thing and culpability lies with them!
