SILENT HILL 2 UPDATE: I am still on my diagnostic practice run, which I’ll end before I get too far. We started with James stuck in the parking lot for half an hour because I have never played a video game and didn’t know how to move using the camera. I am GOOD at moving now! I’m so good! I RARELY run James into walls now and I ALWAYS point him towards the doorknobs. My first fight was ugly but I won! I replayed that tutorial and the second time, it was CLEAN. Took NO damage. ON STANDARD DIFFICULTY.

I took James out into the streets. I honestly did pretty well! Apparently my combat style is telling monsters to come get me and luring them into more advantageous spaces. This was a good instinct on my part, because I finally died ONLY when the game boxed me into a small area to get a key and swarmed me with lying figures. And I know the game did it to me on purpose because I immediately died again when it forced exactly the same thing to happen AND ALSO turned my back to them. And then a third time. But I TRIUMPHED at that point.

And then I also realized that standard combat difficulty is just not a sustainable level for me. I gave it an honest try (five hours! I’m not even at Woodside Apartments yet) and I am gaining skills rapidly, but I also know from my YouTube viewings how shit is going to ramp up throughout the game. Enemies will dogpile you, and I haven’t even gotten to the leg monsters yet. So, when I ran a poll a while back, 85% of y’all voted for me to embrace that I am baby and play on easy. I have decided to take your advice; I do think that I’m getting agile enough that I can handle the game in general. Just think—I couldn’t even get through a door a week ago! I’m gonna go water my Hello Kitty flowerbeds to decompress now.

January 4th 2011 saw Scotland lose one of it’s most talented singer/songwriters when Gerry Rafferty passed away.

Gerry Rafferty came across as a shy, introverted performer, he did little publicity and promotion for his music, preferring to place himself inside the recording studios, and letting the songs speak for themselves.

His introverted ways even went as far as to preferring art work for his albums depriving fans of photos of himself, although ‘Night Owl’ did feature some pics of Gerry in the studio on the LP’s sleeve. He was unlike any 'pop’ artist of the time, Rod Stewart, Elton John, Billy Joel and Paul McCartney were singers whose images were front and centre of their music and fame. Gerry struggled with fame and with alcoholism and depression and the increasingly erratic behaviour they spawned. Perhaps his upbringing didn’t help.

Rafferty was born in Paisley, an unwanted third son. His father, Joseph, was an Irish-born miner. His mother, Mary Skeffington, whose name would provide a Rafferty song title, dragged young Gerry round the streets on Saturday nights so that they would not be at home when his father came back drunk. They would wait outside, in all weathers, until he had fallen asleep, to avoid a beating. “If it wasn’t for you, I’d leave,” Mary told Gerry. Joseph died in 1963, when Gerry was 16.

Alcohol often played a part in Gerry’s songwriting, “One Drink Down”, “Baker Street”, and “Night Owl” at the time of writing these his marriage was struggling, it eventually ended in divorce in 1990 but they had been apart for some time, his ex-wife Carla said: “There was no hope. I would never have left him if there’d been a glimmer of a chance of him recovering.”

In July 2008 while staying in the five-star Westbury Hotel in Mayfair he began a four-day drinking session that left his room extensively damaged. Speaking to The Independent newspaper later, the hotel’s director commented: “It was such a shame. In person, Mr Rafferty was a really nice man, he kept himself to himself and didn’t bother the other guests but he was clearly on a downward spiral. He was in self-destruct mode.”

Conflicting reports and statements from his solicitors included a stay in St Thomas’ Hospital suffering from a chronic liver condition, brought on by heavy drinking, a newspaper reported that the hospital said he had left the hospital leaving all his belongings there and he had been reported missing, this proved to be false and the truth was he was moving from one London hotel to another. During this time, he met Enzina Fuschini, an Italian artist living in Dorset. Rafferty and Fuschini rented a large home together in Upton, near Poole, Fuschini claims she cared for the singer during 2009 and tried to help him overcome his alcoholism, and that he proposed to her at the Ritz Hotel in Paris on Christmas Eve that year.

In November 2010, Rafferty was admitted to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital where he was put on a life-support machine and treated for multiple organ failure. After being taken off life support, Rafferty rallied for a short time, and doctors thought that he might recover. Rafferty died of liver failure at the home of his daughter Martha in Stroud, Gloucestershire, on 4 January 2011.

A requiem mass was held in St Mirins Cathedral in Paisley on January 21st, attended by many politicians, and musical friends through the years, people from all over the world came to Paisley and listened to the mass, a spontaneous round of applause rung out as his coffin was driven away to the towns Woodside Crematorium, Gerry’s ashes were taken to the Holy Island of Iona and scattered, a sad loss to Scotland.

The following year Barbara Dickson Jack Bruce and the Proclaimers joined others along with the Rafferty Family for a tribute performance held Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow.

“We have to do something about your cold hands if you keep touching my face like this.”

“I can stop doing that if you want.”

“Don’t you dare.”

“Then come here and let me kiss you a little more, we can do something about it later.”

“Mhm, okay.”

It took Aiden some persuasion, but in the end even Talon had to admit that they would probably both catch a cold if they didn’t stop making out in a pile of snow.

Maybe they could continue that somewhere warmer.

“Your fingers are even colder than before,” Aiden scolded as Talon took his hand on their way back.

“We’ll definitely have to get you a pair of gloves and a hat. And a scarf maybe.”

“Nope,” Talon shook his head.

With his free hand he reached for the red scarf around his neck.

“I’m keeping this one. Forever.”

He meant it. He wanted to hold on to it for as long as he could.

Just like he wanted to hold on to Aiden as long as he could.

Sooner or later he needed to find a way to tell Aiden the true reason he stayed in Woodside in the first place.

And hope that he didn’t hate him after, though that chance was probably pretty small.

But for now, he pushed the thought aside.

He knew it was selfish.

But if this was all he’d ever have with Aiden, he wanted it to last at least longer than half an hour.

“You are lucky that you look so cute with it. It’s one of my favorites and I wouldn’t part with it for just anyone.”

Talon put a hand over his heart. “I feel honored.”

Aiden smiled. “You should.”

He tugged at Talon’s hand to put him to a halt, just like before their kiss.

“What, got another confession to make?” Talon asked amused.

“No,” Aiden said. “Just that I really really like you.”

He got in his tiptoes to kiss Talon’s nose.

“Thought we established that already when we made out earlier.”

Aiden laughed. “That’s true. So you’re not gonna say it back?”

“It back.”

“Very funny, Talon, did Celene teach you that? Cause that’s really-“

Talon cut him off with a kiss and Aiden shut up immediately.

“Of course I like you,” Talon said as they pulled apart, caressing his cheek. “I like you really damn much. In fact, I think you are my own personal Christmas miracle.”

Aiden smiled widely at that. “I’m flattered. If you could please be so kind and take your cold fingers off my face now.”

Talon shoved him playfully. “Yes, sir. Can I at least hold your hand?”

Aiden looked like he considered it.

What a brat.

“I think in this case I can make an exception… wait! I have an idea!”

He pulled off one of his own gloves and offered it to Talon.

Frowning in confusion, Talon pulled the glove over his left hand.

It fit, luckily, sitting only a little tight at his fingertips.

Proof that Aiden’s hand fitted perfectly in his, it was only a little smaller.

Aiden watched him with a pleased smile, then he took Talon’s now gloved hand in his own.

“Better,” he said, hiding his glove-less hand in the pocket of his winter jacket and continued to walk.

“Put your hand in your pocket, too, we can’t have it freeze off,” he instructed.

“Yes, sir,” Talon mumbled and did as he was told.

Like this, hands warmed by the gloves and heart warmed by each other’s presence, they made their way back to Aiden’s house.
