@writing-nerdy I would LOVE to do this for you if you're still looking. I just finished Suits for the second time and Harvey GODDAMN SPECTER has not left my noggin.
Suits brain rot is real.
Looking for someone to write Harvey Specter from the TV show Suits. I'd settle for an OC (preferably a lawyer) using Gabriel Macht as the face. Below are a couple of loose plot points that have been floating around in my head.
strangers-to-lovers; legal age gap; I can't date my client drama.
Mike Ross' sister is escaping an abusive relationship; my best friend's sister; angst; hurt/comfort; think Enough (with J-Lo) or Nicholas Spark's Safe Haven.
Any takers? I'd literally sell my soul to write the latter.

Birds of a Feather- Chapter 3
Pairing: Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw x Reader
Summary: you're stationed at Top Gun with your brother's long time best friend/your forever crush, Bradley. When you finally realized that your feelings were unrequited, you settled for Adrian. But what happens when Rooster reveals the truth about the man you thought loved you endlessly?
A/N: HI GUYS! I'M BACK!! Again, if y'all didn't see my post earlier, I am very sorry for the long hiatus, I have had no motivation. But! This is one of 3 new chapters this week! Please enjoy, reblog, and give feedback! This is not beta read
Warnings: fluff, pining, cheating, language, angst
Word Count: 1,460
---------------------------
Reader’s POV
You wake up the next morning feeling more well-rested than you have in months. Leaving Adrian last night had given you such peace of mind that you were finally able to fall asleep without worrying about the man next to you. As you wake, you realize there’s an arm around your waist, but it feels different than it usually does. You feel safe. Warm. You slowly reach down and put a hand on top of the one across your belly. You hear a groan and feel stirring behind you.
“Morning, sweet girl,” he says against your hair before ruffling it, “how’d you sleep?”
You stretch for a moment and sit up, turning to look at him, “I slept wonderfully. I don’t remember the last time that happened. Thank you for everything you did for me last night.”
He puts a hand on your knee, “well, since Mav gave us yesterday off, we have to go in today. It’s pretty early, but if you want to take a shower, I’ll make us coffee and breakfast. Take your time.” He kisses your forehead and gets out of bed, leaving you to your thoughts as you bring yourself to take a shower. Once the water is a temperature akin to the surface of the sun, you step in and let the extremely hot water wash away all of the drama.
----------------------
Rooster’s POV
Once he’s changed into his flight suit, Bradley goes downstairs and starts on breakfast. As someone who can’t actually cook, he figures pancakes are the easiest option that he won’t mess up. As he assembles all of the ingredients, he lets his mind wander to last night. Now that Adrian was out of the picture, how long should he wait before he confessed his feelings? There’s probably not a statute of limitations on dating your best friend after a bad breakup, right? You had told him things had been “off” for a while. Were you giving permission? Or were you just venting? If he did tell you, would you be okay with it? Would you leave and go stay with someone else?
He hears you coming down the stairs as he finishes plating the pancakes, and resolves to tell you after work. Enough had happened yesterday that needed to be processed on its own, and you needed to be able to focus on work. He could wait.
“ROOSTER! You know you’re not allowed to cook!” You shout from the doorway to the kitchen, rushing over to see the damage.
He rolls his eyes, “listen, smartass. Pancakes are easy. I only burnt the first two, and I tossed them so you didn’t have to eat them. Now sit down and eat your goddamn breakfast before I take it back and bring it into work. I’m sure the Daggers would love my cooking. They’ll eat anything.” He brings the plate to the island counter in the middle of the kitchen, and you sit down and take a bite, immediately recoiling.
“Roo, you’re my best friend, but I don’t even think Payback and Coyote would eat these. What did you do?” You grab a paper towel from the roll on the counter and spit out your bite.
“What are you talking about? They’re fine.” He grabs one off the plate and takes a bite, then gags. “Jesus CHRIST what happened to these?” He grabs the box of pancake mix and starts scanning it for clues.
You grab it from him and look at the top flap, gasping, “BRADLEY THIS PANCAKE MIX EXPIRED A YEAR AGO!”
He shrugs and grins sheepishly, “coffee? I’ll buy.”
You grab your work bag, badge, and phone, then toss him his keys, “damn right you will.”
-------------
In the car, Rooster isn’t sure what to talk about after your coffee stop. He can’t tell you how gorgeous you look in your uniform. Your long, blonde hair is pulled back in a tight bun, and your flight suit is perfectly smoothed over. It’s still early enough that the sun is still coming up, and the light on your face is hypnotizing. Of course, Rooster is having these thoughts at a red light, and doesn’t notice when it changes to green. Nor does he notice the car behind him honking at him.
“Hello? Rooster? Green light, dude.” You wave a hand in front of his face and he shakes himself back to reality.
“Sorry, I spaced out,” he says as he continues driving. “Do you know what we’re flying today?”
“No idea. I just hope Hangman takes it easy on me today. I hate it when his WSO is out. Flying with him sucks.”
He shoots you a sympathetic look as he pulls in to the gate and shows the security officer both of your badges, then pulls through in the direction of the hangar. “Do you want me to talk to him for you?”
“Oh my God, no. Don’t you dare. I’m dealing with enough, I don’t need him finding out I’m single and harassing me for my number. I’ll just sing Chappell Roan in my head or something.”
He parks and you both head over to the building, and you hear your callsign echo from somewhere to your left. You both turn your head and roll your eyes. Of course Hangman would find you before you’d finished your coffee.
-------------
Reader’s POV
As you watch Hangman jog over to you, you start chugging your very strong coffee as fast as you can.
“Jake, please. It’s so early and I’m not in the mood.”
He smirks as he reaches you, “what’s wrong, darlin’? I just came over to offer my condolences.”
You wince, “condolences for what?”
“Well, Adrian came by Hard Deck last night. Imagine my surprise when he was looking for you because you left him.”
“Yeah, Hangman, I left him. As in, no longer together. So just tell me what you want,” you tell him as you head to the locker room to put your bag up.
He pulls you to him before you can enter the locker room, “I was hoping you’d let me take you out for a celebratory dinner. And then an even more celebratory breakfast the next morning.”
“What exactly are we celebrating?” You try to pull away, but he’s got a hand on your arm.
“You finally being single, I’ve been waiting for this.”
You reach down and remove his hand from your arm, and you decide you’ve had enough. “You know what, Hangman? I am so, so sick of this shit. I’m not going to go out with you. Why do you think you’ve never gotten any luck with anyone in the Navy? It’s because we all know what kind of person you are. You’re an incredible pilot. There’s no question about that. But the way you treat people is the reason you have no fucking friends. Ever think you’d have better luck if you changed everything about yourself?”
“I just-”
“Jake, leave her alone,” you hear over your shoulder. You turn your head and see Rooster towering over you, “she’s going through a lot and she doesn’t need you all over her ass.”
“Alright, whatever. See you in the air,” Jake says as he scoffs and walks away. Once he’s gone, Bradley pulls you into a hug. It’s not as tight as the one yesterday, but it’s somehow better. You feel… safe. And the only thing you can think is that you want to feel this way with Bradley every day forever.
------------
After a grueling day of flying with Jake, who wouldn’t speak to you unless it was an instruction, you shower in the locker room and go out to wait by Bradley’s Bronco. You were usually out first, but he’s already standing next to the rear bumper in his civvies.
“Ready? I was thinking we’d pick up some pizza and beer.”
You high five him before making your way to the passenger’s side, “what a guy,” you say lovingly as you hop in. You order the pizza on your phone, then make a stop at a convenience store for beers before going to pick it up.
Once you get to Bradley’s, you go straight to the living room and put the pizza and beer on the table. You hear him rummaging around in the kitchen and grab the remote, hoping to choose something before he comes back in the room. You successfully choose “Alien,” just to see how much Bradley will let you get away with in your state. You queue it up on the Netflix screen as Bradley walks in with extra ranch and marinara and sets it on the table. He sits next to you, looks at the TV, then back at you.
“Actually, can we talk about something?”

Bradley was never usually one to get lost in a daydream. He was exceptionally good at focusing on flying when he was in the air. If he had a task to complete on the ground, he always got it done. But when he spent the rest of his day after talking on the phone with you in his bunk, he wasn't focused on much except the sound of your voice. Then he dug out the pictures you'd mailed to him so he could see your face as well. The combination of everything about you was almost too much, and he didn't know how he'd manage in person.
He still had weeks of his deployment left, and he'd never wanted to get home so badly in his life. That first date was already set. He was annoyed he couldn't give you a firm idea on when it could happen, but you didn't seem to mind too much. In fact, you told him you'd be ready whenever he got back. And that you'd take him any way you could get him. Well, as long as you still wanted him next month, you could have him.
With a smile on his face, Bradley reached for the stack of letters from your class and took the time to judge the drawing contest. All he really did was award each kid their own unique superlative. The purple jet that he thought was Violet's won the 'I Wish the Navy Liked Colors' award. Jayden's drawing of the jet with the dog named Vanessa for a pilot won the 'She Probably Flies Better Than I Do' award. And the one that looked like a dragon won the 'Fanciest Scales' award.
He wrote on the back of each picture, chuckling the whole time. Then he got to the one you drew, and he noticed something he'd missed when he first opened the newest box from your class. Next to his name written on the side of the F/A-18, you'd drawn a little heart. He was all smiles as he flipped it over and started writing.
Hey, Gorgeous,
This one's my favorite, but don't tell the kiddos, okay? The little heart really sold it for me. I can't wait to see you.
Bradley
After he packaged everything up and dropped it off to be sent back to the states, he made his way to dinner. He ate his meatloaf alone once again, but he hadn't felt lonely in months. The adrenaline rush of the phone call was finally starting to wear off, but he felt warm all over. You'd be asleep now back in California, but maybe there was a chance you had in fact emailed him that selfie before you went to bed. And that is what once again lured him back to the lounge. You had a vise-like grip on every part of him, and he was itching to know exactly what you looked like tonight while he was talking to you.
Unsurprisingly, he had to wait a bit until there was a computer free that he could use. Sundays always seemed to be when the lounge was swamped, but he didn't mind. He just sat back and thought about the way you said his name. He could imagine you whispering it. He could even imagine you screaming it.
"Shit," he grunted, hopping up when it was finally his turn, and he logged into his email account to find that you wrote to him approximately fifteen minutes after the phone call ended. And when he opened your message, he leaned in a little closer to make sure nobody else around him could catch even a glimpse of the photos you attached.
His heart started beating in that same erratic way it had when he listened to you telling him you thought about kissing his scars. Not only had you emailed him a sweet looking selfie of you in bed wearing an oversized sweatshirt, you sent a second, decidedly spicier one, too.
Bradley ran his hand over his mouth and mustache, trying not to groan as he quickly memorized every detail of that second photo. You'd removed that oversized sweatshirt and snuggled down under the soft looking sheet, and there was not a scrap of shirt fabric covering your arms or chest. Inch after glorious inch of the soft swell of your breasts was visible before the sheet forced him to imagine what the rest would look like. And he had a very vivid imagination.
When his hand dropped down to his side, he realized he was staring open mouthed at the photo. The little smirk you wore in it let him know you were absolutely intentional about this, and that was such a huge turn on for him. This is how you wanted him to see you. Fuck. He scrolled back up to the first photo where you were wearing your sweatshirt and a much more innocent smile, and he whispered, "Okay, Gorgeous. You've ruined me."
He realized as he scrolled all the way back up to your actual message that there were probably a lot of guys who got sent straight up pornography from their wives or girlfriends when they were deployed, but this had to be the hottest looking thing that ever graced his inbox. And you were still completely covered up. He shook his head to clear his mind as he started reading.
Bradley,
Thank you for the phone call. I'm sitting here kind of regrouping while the butterflies are still going crazy in my belly. I can't pinpoint exactly what it is with you that sets them off, but hearing your voice for twenty minutes straight has turned me into a boneless heap on my bed. I'm almost afraid of what might happen to me if you touch me.
It's gone. I deleted my profile and the entire dating app. I'm no longer looking for single guys with jobs who are between 30 and 40 years old. I'm just looking for a 36-year old Naval aviator who wants to take me to the beach in Coronado to watch the sunset with Thai food and Prosecco.
I hope you come home soon. Do you have any idea how much longer you'll be gone? Why isn't the Navy taking into consideration the fact that you and I have a date to go on? I'd just really like to see your face in person as soon as possible.
I'm attaching two photos, probably against my better judgement. Maybe it's just my excuse to get you to call me Gorgeous again. I can't wait to see you.
Your favorite pen pal
He wanted to wait until he had some gym selfies to send, but he couldn't leave you hanging. Not when those two, flawless photos caught his eye again. So he started typing up a response, and soon he found that he wanted to talk to you on the phone again badly enough that he was going to go back to one of the admirals to see if there was any way he could.
----------------------------
You had such a hard time falling asleep on Saturday night after talking to Bradley. It was like your body had accepted the inevitable before your brain had. You were completely enchanted by him, and the call made it so much worse. Hearing him call you Gorgeous through your phone speaker was almost more than you could handle. You were turned on and too warm, even without your sweatshirt. You couldn't believe you sent him that photo. You couldn't believe you trusted him enough to keep it private.
He probably dated women in the past who sent him things that were way more explicit than a selfie where they were covered up, but you were still a teacher who wanted to keep her job. You loved your class, and you knew nobody else could handle your kids as well as you could. But you wanted to give Bradley what you could for now.
It was the description of the perfect date and the promise that he'd kiss you as soon as he saw you that kept playing in your mind. And you let it keep playing on loop, because he lived in Coronado. And that's how you finally dozed off. When you woke up on Sunday morning, you had a brand new email in response to your selfies.
Gorgeous,
I'm thrilled to hear the app is gone. All of the other single guys aged thirty to forty are probably at home crying right now, and I can't blame them. I'll just sit here with a smug look on my face.
That phone call was one of the best of my life. The way you say my name is somehow better than I imagined it would sound, and I'd been spending a lot of my free time thinking about it. Hearing your voice and seeing you in these photos is a privilege. That second one had me staring with my mouth hanging open for a few minutes. I think I just about memorized it, but I'm going to check one more time before I log off. Okay, maybe two more times. As much as I love it, I don't want to feel pressured to send me things like that. But dear god, Gorgeous, I mean it when I say you take that word to a whole new level.
You don't need an excuse to get me to call you Gorgeous. Hopefully by next month, you'll be hearing it so much in person that you'll be sick of it. And it's not a matter of if I touch you, it's a matter of when.
As soon as I have a better idea of when I'll be back in San Diego, that information will be in your inbox immediately.
I can't wait to see you,
Bradley
You couldn't wait that long. You would never make it. Your sheets were brushing your bare skin as you thought about him calling you Gorgeous so many times that you got sick of it, but you knew that would never happen. You were going to need another hobby or maybe five to help you pass the time, but for now, you decided to work on your lesson plans for the coming week.
Your kids would probably be happy to learn that you were planning on extending your aviation lessons to the end of the school year. Or at least until Bradley got back. What you wouldn't give to have him visit your classroom. Just the idea of him standing in front of the board, maybe in his flight suit, left you light headed. You already knew your kids would be absolutely delighted to meet him after writing back and forth so many times.
After you managed to distract yourself for a full day, you were just getting into bed when you heard your phone ping with a notification. "Oh god," you groaned in pleasure. When you opened the new email from Bradley, you were met with the promised gym selfies. One was of his reflection which was taken in a long mirror that seemed to cover most of a wall. You could see some other people working out in the background, but front and center was Bradley curling a massive looking dumbbell in snug shorts and a shirt with the sleeves ripped off.
You dropped down onto your bed and zoomed in on his biceps. "Dear Lord." Your heart was hammering in your chest now. Did he not know what he looked like? Did he not know that his body was absolutely flawless? The second photo was even better. The half-smirk, half-smile and the peek of pretty, white teeth. The slightly messy hair. The chocolatey brown eyes. The scars with the beads of sweat running down them. "Unbelievable."
And then you read the short message.
Two gym selfies, as promised. You asked for a nice closeup of my face, and that's as good as it gets. Talk soon, Gorgeous.
You were still looking at the photos when you fell asleep.
-----------------------------
Bradley shouldn't have been surprised that another mission was in the works. He'd been so caught up in you, he almost expected smooth sailing and a direct path back to San Diego so he could get on with his personal life. But no such luck. After several days holed up in planning sessions, the only real happiness he found was in each new email from you.
There was another class photo in one. There was a selfie of you at a Thai restaurant in another. And there were always a lot of fun details about your day, too. But it was the bits where you let him know you were thinking about him that made him a little weaker for you with every passing day. His favorite was when you told him you donated all of your DVDs of movies with spiders in them. He also loved it when you told him that your students wanted to meet him.
If he could just get back, you and he would be watching all the spider-less movies together, and he'd be more than happy to visit your classroom. But, fuck, this deployment was dragging. He was tired, but he wasn't sleeping well. And there seemed to be cabbage rolls every evening in the cafeteria. When he finally made it out on deck a few days before he was supposed to fly the mission, he ended up talking to Marty.
"You need a hand with that?" Bradley asked the mechanic as he worked on taking apart an engine.
"Sure, Lieutenant," Marty replied, handing Bradley some very greasy bolts and a wrench. "Just hang onto those for me."
Two minutes of watching him work, and Bradley wished he'd brought his phone with him to record a video for your class. "The kids would love this," he muttered, and Marty chuckled.
"You still sending stuff to that elementary class back in San Diego? The pen pals?"
"Yeah," Bradley replied. "I think I've kind of adopted them. Or maybe they've adopted me? Either way, I've been writing to them this entire deployment. And... you know how you asked me if I was dating a teacher a few months ago?"
Marty looked at him and laughed. "Let me guess. You fell for their teacher?"
He nodded and sighed when he thought about you. "Yeah... it's just been a lot of emails and letters and one phone call, but now I can't wait to get back home."
"Damn," Marty grunted as he removed another bolt. "Some guys have all the luck." Bradley ended up helping him lift some heavy parts from a crate as Marty told him, "I have a ten minute FaceTime call scheduled for later this week if you want to use it to talk to your new girlfriend again."
Bradley was ready to jump at the chance to see your face and hear your voice at the same time, but instead he said, "I can't take that from you, but thanks, man."
Marty shrugged. "I'll just end up talking to my sister again. You can have it."
Bradley stared at him for a few seconds. "Yeah? You're sure?"
"All yours."
Bradley stayed long enough to get the details and help Marty unload everything else he needed to finish his project, and then he got cleaned up and went to the lounge to email you. If you were able to talk to him over FaceTime, it would be everything he needed to get through this last flight mission and end his deployment on a high note.
--------------------------
"Lieutenant Bradshaw said my drawing is the funniest one!"
"Lieutenant Bradshaw likes the rooster beak I put on my jet!"
"Lieutenant Bradshaw said mine is the least realistic in a good way!"
You were trying not to laugh as you looked at each of the little messages Bradley wrote on the backs of the F/A-18 drawings. They were all somehow well thought out and personalized. It was as if he actually knew these kids. But you supposed that in a way, he did. You kept going back to your desk to look at the note on the back of your drawing.
Hey, Gorgeous,
This one's my favorite, but don't tell the kiddos, okay? The little heart really sold it for me. I can't wait to see you.
Bradley
Seeing him was all you could think about now. You were almost completely convinced that your feelings would translate well from virtual to personal interaction. How could they not? He was as sweet and sincere over the phone as he was through his writing.
When you checked your phone after your kids were dismissed for the day, you tapped on a new email from Bradley before you started packing your bag to head home.
Gorgeous, any chance you have ten minutes you're willing to spend on a FaceTime call? Tomorrow night around 8:00 for you?
You squeaked in delight at the mere thought of it. His face and his voice and his words and his attention all at the same time? Ten minutes of it?
Yes! I'll be ready!
Now you had to wait. You also had to get your friends to bump up the Friday night dinner reservation to 5:00. And you needed to make sure you looked nicer than you did when you were usually lounging at home in your oversized sweatshirt.
So when Friday evening rolled around, and you barely made it home from dinner by 8:00, you were a little frazzled. You wanted to take the time to fix your makeup, and you wanted to change into a cuter shirt that your friends would have definitely called you out on if they saw you wearing it to dinner, but there was no time. Your phone was already ringing at 8:01.
This time, the butterflies erupted as soon as you accepted the call and saw Bradley sitting there in his flight suit with a hesitant smile on his face. He didn't even have to say a word to make you feel like you were going to float up to the ceiling even as you tried to sit down on your bed.
"Bradley," you breathed softly, and his smile grew exponentially.
"Hey, Gorgeous."
You bit your lip as you took in all the details of his face on your tiny phone screen. His brown eyes were wide as he did the same to you, and you couldn't stop yourself before you said, "Hey, Handsome."
His cheeks immediately flushed with a pink tint, and he looked down at the table in front of him with a bashful smile. You wanted to climb through your phone to get to him, settle yourself down on his lap, and feel how rough his flight suit was against your hands. You wanted to tip his face up so he was looking at you again, and when he did that on his own, you almost screamed in delight at what he said next.
"Damn, Baby. You didn't need to get all dressed up just to talk to me. You look beautiful right now, but I'm also partial to your sweatshirt."
You looked down at yourself and then back at him with a little laugh. He was staring at you in awe as you said, "I always look like this."
"You always look like this? You always look this hot?" he asked, that little grin you liked so much dancing around his lips. "Seriously?"
"Well, I mean, I didn't do anything special. I wanted to, but I ran out of time, and I definitely didn't want to miss your call."
Your heart was thudding as he really scanned your face and let out a low whistle. "I guess I'll find out for myself soon enough. About two more weeks to go, and then I'll be home. I just got that information today."
"Two weeks!" you exclaimed, nearly dropping your phone. Images of beach sunsets and Bradley's big hand holding yours filled your mind. "That's better than I was hoping for!"
You watched him run his hand through his hair, almost like he was nervous now. "Same. So what do you say? Two Saturdays from now, as long as everything goes as planned, you want to go on that first date with me?"
"Yes, Bradley," you replied immediately. "If you want to spend your first day back on dry land with me, then that's absolutely what I want to do."
His voice was deep and raspy as he said, "Then it's a date." But his eyes still seemed uncertain, and you knew instinctively that there was more going on as he asked, "You think... maybe we could talk about date number two for a minute? I was thinking we would go out to a restaurant so I can prove to you that I clean up okay."
You had to press your lips together for a few seconds before you said, "I have no doubt in my mind that you'd look just as good in a tee shirt as you would in a tuxedo."
That made him laugh as he scratched along the stubble on his jaw. "Humor me, Gorgeous? We would end up going out on a second date, right?" he asked, and somehow you could tell that something else was on his mind. "Maybe we would even go on a third?"
"Would?" you asked softly. "Don't you mean will?"
"Shit, I'm sorry," he said, leaning in a little closer. "Yeah. We will."
You and he studied each other as you asked, "Is there something wrong?"
He leaned back in his seat, and your heart started beating a most uncomfortable rhythm. "Damn it," he muttered, closing his eyes briefly as he took a deep breath. "We only have a few minutes on here, and I'm fucking it up because I'm nervous." You noticed he was rubbing his palms along his thighs, and he looked you in the eye as he said, "I really like you. All I can think about is getting home and doing all the things I promised. I don't usually feel like I have anything special to look forward to in San Diego. Or at least I didn't before we started talking." He cleared his throat and added, "I'm flying a final mission here in a few hours. It's a sensitive one, and... I just wanted you to know that I'll be thinking about you until I have to put my head down and get to work."
"Oh," you gasped, suddenly more aware than ever that he had the kind of anxiety inducing, adrenaline spiking job you could only ever dream of. Your fourth grade classroom was tame by comparison. Your students were nothing compared to opposing fighter jets. His career was dangerous.
Tears filled your eyes as he groaned a little bit and whispered, "I'm sorry, Baby. I kind of killed the vibe."
"You didn't," you told him quickly, studying the concern written on his features. Then your voice got even softer as you asked, "How will I know you're okay?"
He cleared his throat and said, "Sometimes they close off communication as we get closer to port. Of course I'll email you if I can, otherwise I'll let you know when I'm back in San Diego." His brown eyes flicked to the side and then back to you. "I'm going to have to go in a minute here."
There were a lot of things you knew would have to be left unsaid for now, so you told him what you could. "I really like you, too," you promised him, and some of the worry melted away from his face. "And I'm thinking dinner at an Italian restaurant for our second date. That way you can get cleaned up nice, and I can wear a dress that I'll be stressing out about all night long. And you can tell me that I look gorgeous while my foot keeps intentionally bumping yours under the table." He was smiling now, so you decided to go for broke. "And you kind of promised me takeout on your couch with a spider-free movie. I was hoping you'd play a song on the piano for me. I was hoping to cover both of us with a blanket and kiss you senseless. How does that sound?" You were gripping your phone a little tighter, hoping you'd be able to hear his response before he said he had to go.
"That sounds perfect, Gorgeous," he said, looking a lot calmer now. "Let's do that."
"Please, be careful."
"I will."
And then he was gone.
-------------------------------
Bradley needed to make it home, because he decidedly had a lot to do there. Nat was expecting not one, but two dinners out of him now. There were eighteen fourth graders he wanted to meet. And as he ended a FaceTime call with the woman of his dreams while she had tears in her eyes, he knew he wanted to go on those dates more than anything else. If he never got to meet you in person... well he couldn't even think about that right now. He was supposed to report to his jet on the main runway in an hour, but you kept popping up in every corner of his mind. You were more emotionally open with him over a ten minute call than Vanessa ever was.
"Bradshaw!" He turned to see a petty officer coming toward him with a box. "Last mail call."
"Thank you," he replied, already smiling as he recognized your handwriting. His nineteen pen pals were here to keep him company once again, and his heart swelled with something he didn't even want to try to identify at the moment. All he could do was drop the box off in his bunk and tell himself he'd open it when he got back after nightfall.
---------------------------
Vulnerable Bradley is nervous just thinking about what might happen. He's starting to feel like Gorgeous could be be the one waiting on the San Diego end of all of his deployments from now on, but he needs to get through the rest of this one first. Maybe they can meet in the next part? Thanks @beyondthesefourwalls

I hate the whole discourse of: "fanfic writers need to accept criticism so they can improve". Look, I did not post 5k of men blowing their loads so that I can become Hemingway or something, just don't read it if you don't want to, or do read it and drop your damn thanks in the tin.

I just want to make sure I get something right so you allow minors as long as they don't read the smut right?
Yes! All of my smutty posts should be restricted.
PSA If you're a minor, please don't read the smut. I would hate to have to completely block minors from my blog. I'm trying to be nice and trust y'all. Please don't make me regret that!

300 Awkward Blind Dates Later...
Pairing: Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw x Reader
Summary: You go on a blind date on your birthday so you don't have to spend it alone, but it ends up going better than you expected.
A/N: Hey friends! This is a little birthday drabble for my buddy @roosterforme. Thank you for being such a help and inspiration, you're the best!
Warnings: fluff, maybe swearing, a whole lot of sweetness so book your dentist ASAP, allusions to smut (bc I can't help myself), spice
Word Count: 2,617
----------------------------------------------
You take a deep breath and fix your hair in your rear view mirror. You look down at your dress and check your phone one last time. You'd thought your ex would at least act like he cared that it was your birthday. He wanted you back, and yet he couldn't be bothered to text you on your birthday. So, that's why you were on a blind date on your birthday.
You put your phone away and walk into the restaurant, sitting at the bar. The bartender immediately comes over and you order a soda, presuming this date won't last long enough for you to finish any alcohol.
Once you have your soda, you let yourself relax a little bit. You let yourself get lost in the bustle of the bar at happy hour. That is until you hear a voice startle you out of your daze.
"Excuse me? Do you mind if I sit here, ma'am?"
You snap your head to your left to see the hottest man God has ever created. He has curly brown hair and a gorgeous mustache to match. He's got chocolate brown eyes that you could easily see yourself getting lost in-
"Oh! Yeah, sure." You turn to look at the clock to see that your date is 40 minutes late. You pull out your phone and see that your date had cancelled because you didn't sound like his "type," and he didn't want to waste your time. "I've been stood up, apparently, so I should probably go anyway."
The stranger frowns and takes the seat next to yours, "well, apparently it's a blind date."
"How'd you know that?"
He smirks, "if he knew what you look like, he wouldn't have stood you up. You're perfect."
You blush and as the bartender takes the stranger's order, you ask her for a refill on your soda. Before you can take your card out of your wallet to pay out, a rough hand covers yours.
"You can add it to my tab. Both of the drinks." You look up and meet his incredible eyes.
"Are you sure? You don't even know my name."
He laughs and turns your hand over to shake it, "well, I'm Bradley. Bradley Bradshaw. And you are?"
You introduce yourself, and you notice that although you're not shaking hands, neither of you have let go. There's something... right about how his hand feels on yours. It feels like you're home. You subtly roll your eyes at yourself before dropping his hand.
"Well, Bradley, why do you insist on paying for my drinks?"
He grins, putting his arm around the back of your chair, "well, miss Y/N, my mom always told me to pay for a lady's drinks on a date."
"You're awfully bold to assume this is a date," you raise your glass to your lips, smirking at him over the top.
"You were already here on a date. It's not my fault I had to step into that clown's shoes. I'm just taking a shot."
"And if I said this wasn't a date?"
"Well, I would be crushed. I think you're great. You're funny, you're hot, although we do have to have a talk about stranger danger."
You scoot your stool closer to him and start drawing circles on his leg with your finger. The second your fingertip touches him, you feel him tense up and you smile softly, "I'm hot?"
He leans in closer so his lips are almost touching your ear, "baby you're the hottest person in the whole damn bar. As soon as I saw you, you were all that mattered. Especially because I would really, really like to see you again. Tonight. In my bedroom. Preferably under me. "
You bite your lip and stand, heading for the door. You go out and stand next to your car around the corner and wait. Not even 30 minutes later, you hear the restaurant door open and close, followed by footsteps on the concrete. Bradley turns the corner speeds up, jogging toward you.
You open your mouth to speak, but before you can ask Bradley to follow you home, his arms are around you and his mouth is on yours. You moan into the kiss and back up against your car, letting your lips dance with his. His lips were coarse, but in the best way, where it feels like static electricity.
He pulls away and immediately blurts out, "do you want to come home with me?"
"Let's go. I'll come get my car tomorrow."
"No, we'll come get your car tomorrow. I don't plan on letting you go."

Birds of a Feather- Chapter 2
Pairing: Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw x Reader
Summary: you're stationed at Top Gun with your brother's long time best friend/your forever crush, Bradley. When you finally realized that your feelings were unrequited, you settled for Adrian. But what happens when Rooster reveals the truth about the man you thought loved you endlessly?
A/N: HI GUYS! I'M BACK!! This is my new series because i am an absolute hoe for Rooster, so I'm gifting this to all of you. I will be coming back to Anything But Free as well, I just needed to get this out of my head. I promise I will try to make the other chapters longer!
Warnings: fluff, pining, cheating, language, angst

-------------
Rooster’s POV
Rooster hadn’t slept for more than an hour. When he finally did fall asleep around 4am, all he did was dream of you. By the time he woke, he had resolved that today, he would tell you everything. There was the possibility of losing you, sure. But even that was better than watching a cheating pig like Adrian use you over and over again. He got dressed into his running clothes so he could at least jog to your house to plan what he was going to say. As he stepped outside, locked his door, and began running, the intrusive thoughts returned.
There was no easy way to tell you that the man you’d loved for so long couldn’t care less about your feelings. The man you’d given so much, and from whom you’d received nothing in return. The man who broke your heart over and over again while Rooster picked up the pieces and put you back together. His brain was so full of thoughts and anxiety, he hadn’t even realized he was at your door.
Reader’s POV
As soon as you open your front door, Rooster envelopes you in one of his famous Bradshaw hugs. The moment his arms are around you, something inside you snaps and the dam breaks. You start sobbing, and Rooster picks you up and carries you to the kitchen. He sets you on the counter, staring at you.
“Are you- Do I smell biscuits and gravy?”
You laugh through your tears, “I made it for Adrian since it’s our anniversary but he won’t be home for breakfast. I was going to bring it to work for you.”
Rooster shakes his head, laughing with you, “you’re the best. And I will eat it later if you still want me to. But right now, I have to talk to you before I chicken out.”
He stands in front of you, taking your hands in his. “What I’m about to tell you is a big deal. If you never want to see me again because I’m the one telling you, I’m okay with that. I just couldn’t forgive myself if I let this go on any longer.”
You watch him cautiously, cocking an eyebrow, “Bradley, you’re freaking me out.”
He takes a deep breath and lets out in one breath, “Adrian is cheating on you.”
“He’s what?” You let out a nervous laugh, unsure of how else to react, “what are you talking about?”
“Like eight months ago, remember when you had pneumonia and you wouldn’t let anyone come over because you didn’t want them to get sick? You were upset because Adrian said he was working or some shit and he wouldn’t bring you soup. Well, he wasn’t sick. He was at the Hard Deck.”
Your heart sinks like it did earlier when you received Adrian’s text, “why would he lie to me about that? He could have just told me.”
“He lied because he didn’t want you to know he was there. He was there with another woman. I caught them fucking in the bathroom. He saw me and told me that you’d never believe me. And if you did, you would never trust me again because I ruined your relationship.”
You sit in silence for a few minutes, staring at your shoes and avoiding your best friend’s gaze. After a few minutes, he speaks up again.
“Do you want me to leave?”
“No.”
“Do you want to stay here?”
“Where else am I gonna go, Roo?” You finally make eye contact with him, his eyes pleading with yours.
“You can stay with me. I’ll help you move your stuff, we can carpool to work, it’ll be great.”
You feel warmth in your cheeks, but your smile falters almost immediately, “Why would he do this to me? Do I deserve this?”
Bradley wraps you in his arms again, kissing your forehead like he always does, “of course not, sweet girl. You only deserve happiness. He did this because he is spineless, and he doesn’t understand how wonderful you are. You are sunshine. When you walk in the room, everyone smiles. Adrian is selfish. You deserve someone who will take care of you.” Someone like me, his inner voice chimes in.
You take a deep breath to steel your nerves, “we should get ready for work.”
“I already called Mav and explained everything. We’re off the hook for today. He told me to take care of you. So, what do you want to do?”
“I think I need to leave him, Roo. I’m so tired. All this time he’s just been tolerating everything I do for him. I can’t do this anymore. This is the end.”
He squeezes you tightly one last time, “I’m gonna call a moving truck and have them come meet us here while we start packing your stuff. You’re gonna stay with me. It’s gonna be great.” Rooster picks up his phone and heads into the other room, making arrangements. You slowly slide off the counter and walk around the home you shared with the man you thought would be your endgame. You run your fingers along the walls, looking at the photos you’ve taken together. With Rooster’s bombshell, you’re noticing new details. How Adrian’s smile never really reached his eyes. How, on the few times he put his arm around you, it was possessive, like he was holding you in place. On the other end of the spectrum, there were photos where you were leaning on him, and he wasn’t returning the affection at all. He was simply supporting your weight.
When you reach your bedroom, you grab your suitcase set from under your bed. It was a gift from Adrian for your one-year anniversary when you’d made plans to go to Cabo together. A trip that had never happened because he’d “had to work.” Now, you wondered how many times he’d used that excuse on the phone with you with another woman’s tongue down his throat.
You went to your closet and started mindlessly packing your clothes into your suitcase, dissociating from the activity. Every so often, you find a t-shirt or hoodie of Adrian’s in the mix of your stuff, and you carefully fold it and put it on his side of the bed. You know with every fiber of your being that if you allowed any part of Adrian to slip through the cracks, you would forgive everything he had put you through.
You don’t know how long it’s been when Rooster puts a hand on your shoulder, making you jump.
“Sorry! I just wanted to tell you movers will be here soon. They’ll bring boxes for everything and pack it really carefully and bring it to my house. When we finish packing your clothes, we can get lunch and drive to my- our house.” He gives you a sweet smile before helping you continue to pack. When you fill up your largest suitcase, you move onto your smaller suitcases and pack your lighter clothes and accessories in them. Periodically, Rooster will hold up an article of your clothing and ask if you think he can pull it off, earning a small smile from you. Otherwise, you work in silence, both of you unable to fill the void that you feel in your heart. Eventually, the movers arrive and Rooster lets them in and explains the situation, then returns to finish helping you.
—------
Rooster’s POV
He’s helping you pack your last few items, when suddenly you speak up.
“Roo… Why are you helping me?”
Because I love you! His inner monologue screams. He bites his lip, continuing to fold your clothes.
“Because you’re my best friend. I care about you. Because I should have told you sooner. And… because it’s what my dad would’ve done.”
“Oh… Well why did you think I wouldn’t forgive you for telling me?”
Rooster takes a deep breath, putting your last pair of pants in your suitcase. “Adrian… He got in my head. He told me that if I told you what was going on, you would blame me for your relationship ending.”
You bite your lip, letting a nervous laugh slip out as you look around the bedroom which was now devoid of your belongings.
“Bradley… You realize that’s silly, right? He’s the reason the relationship is ending. He cheated. He just can’t handle taking the blame for something for once in his fucking life. He knows you’re too good to not tell me, so he manipulated you. That’s what he-” The sound of a car door closing cuts you off, and you look at your best friend with wide eyes.
“It’s okay, we have all of your stuff and the movers are gonna finish up. We can go. You don’t have to say anything to him.” He takes all of your suitcases in his hands with ease, and you follow him to the staircase.
“Baby? Are you here?” You hear your now-ex call from the foyer.
You shrink behind Bradley as you round the corner and begin your trek down the stairs.
“Y/N? What’s going on?”
“I-” Bradley shakes his head, turning slightly to give you a look.
“What the fuck does it look like, Adrian? She’s leaving you. You fucked up for the last time.”
Adrian scoffs, sending shivers up your spine, “yeah? And I suppose you’re gonna take care of her, big man? She’ll never forgive you. You did this.”
Bradley starts to say something, but you dodge around him and come face-to-face with the man you once loved.
“He didn’t do shit, Adrian. He didn’t cheat on me. He didn’t abandon me when I needed him most. He didn’t laugh at me with his friends. He didn’t ditch me on anniversaries, birthdays, when I was sick, just to fuck someone else. Bradley is the only one in this house who cares about me. The only thing he did was spare me from thinking you were my forever. Fuck you, and fuck everything I ever let you put me through.” Holding back tears, you pull out your favorite photo of the two of you, from your very first date at the Santa Monica Pier. You rip it into pieces while maintaining eye contact with him, then drop it to the floor.
You walk out of your house and hop in the passenger’s seat of Rooster’s car, and the dam breaks. Every emotion you’ve felt today comes pouring out, and you start sobbing. The loss of everything you thought you had comes crashing down, and you struggle to breathe between your sobs. You hear Bradley close the tailgate after loading your stuff, but your body won’t let the tears stop. He opens his door and when he sees your current state, his face falls.
—----------------
Rooster’s POV
“It’s okay, sweet girl. He can’t hurt you anymore. He can’t touch you. I won’t let him get near you ever again.” He continues whispering sweet nothings against your hair until he’s sure you’ve stopped crying. He drives you to his house with a determination you’ve never seen before and gets there in record time.
He steps out of the car and comes around to let you out, scooping you up in his arms and carrying you inside. He takes you up the stairs and sets you in his large master bathroom. He scuttles around, grabbing various bath products and towels, then turns on his bathtub faucet.
“Take a bath, take some deep breaths. I’ll get your clothes and some pajamas. Do you want to sleep in the guest room or my bedroom? I can sleep in the guest room if you want my bed, it’s more comfortable honestly.”
He can see the gears turning in your head as you weigh your options, then meets your gaze when your head moves up to look at him. “Can I sleep in your bed with you? I just want to cuddle… It’s okay if not I don’t want to bother you, I don’t want to make you uncomfortable I just don’t want to be alone and you’re my best friend-”
He cuts you off with a hug, and all he can think is that he’s screwed. Completely, totally screwed.
—-------------
Reader’s POV
Bradley’s quiet for a moment as he holds you, and all you can think is that you should have never overstepped. You know immediately you fucked up by asking him that, and nothing would ever be the same again.
He steps back with his hands on your shoulders, looking you directly in the eye again, “of course you can. It won’t bother me, it won’t make me uncomfortable. I know you need affection, and I’m your best friend. I’ll always be here for you. Now, I’m gonna go get your stuff, I’ll leave you some pajamas outside the door. Take your time and just breathe.”
You nod and thank him before stripping and slowly sinking into the tub, almost moaning at how surreal the water feels on your skin. Your mind wanders to when you were living with Adrian and how he never wanted you to take baths because it was time spent away from him. You couldn’t go out with friends, you couldn’t go on walks without him suspecting something was going on. He truly did trap you into thinking you were safe with him.
You shake off the thoughts of your ex and sink deeper into the water, letting your mind roam to thoughts of your best friend. He had done so much for you, and you had no idea how you would ever repay him. You’d had feelings for him years ago, and having him take care of you now was making those feelings resurface. It had been so long since someone had genuinely cared about you, listened to you, or made you feel appreciated. And here Bradley was, doing all those things like he always did. Ever since you had started dating Adrian, you could see that Bradley was concerned. You’d thought it was just a friendly kind of concern, but now you suspected it was more than that. Could this be the catalyst you needed to finally be with someone who showed you he cared about you every day? Could you confess your feelings without Bradley thinking it was an impulsive decision based on your current situation?
As you wash up and finish your bath, you resolve to tell Bradley in the morning when you were clear headed. Tonight, you would just bask in the affection and the knowledge that despite Adrian’s best efforts, you did have someone in your life that cherished you. And that was what mattered.
You get up and dry off, then turn to see your pajamas on the counter, along with a pair of underwear. Your eyes widen, embarrassed that he went through your underwear, until you realize that if the clothes are in the bathroom, that means he saw you in the bathtub. You blush at the thought of him seeing you naked but regretting you didn’t get to see his face. Did he linger to watch you? To appreciate you? You shake off the intrusive thoughts and get dressed before leaving the bathroom to see Bradley laying in his bed in shorts with no shirt. He extends his arms to invite you in, and you don’t waste a moment climbing into bed and snuggling up to him. He rolls the both of you onto your sides, still holding you close.
“Is this okay?” He asks softly into your hair, and you feel him start to stroke your arm.
“It’s perfect,” you mumble back, his touch lulling you into the first peaceful sleep you’ve had in months.

-------------------
"(Y/N)! You're doing such a good job, baby!"
You blush as your boyfriend of two years, Adrian, hugs you from behind as you win your second consecutive game of pool.
The tension lifts as you spin in his arms and plant a kiss on his lips.
Your brother whistles from across the billiard table, "YEAHHHH, GET IT Adrian!!!" And Adrian deepens the kiss, moving his hands to cup your ass.
"Alright, get a room. Nobody wants to see that shit," mumbles Rooster.
Rooster was…. Well, he was Rooster. Full name Bradley Bradshaw, Navy brat through and through. He's always been competitive with your brother, from grade school to Top Gun. If you were being honest with yourself, you'd thought in high school he would've asked you out. He went to your prom "as a friend," but you'd always thought it would turn into something more. Then, once you'd all sailed through the Naval Academy and he still hadn't made his move, you decided to move on. You had Adrian now. And Adrian was great. Right?
You shake off your inner monologue and excuse yourself to the bar. Penny pours you one last White Russian before closing out your tab. She makes it a double before shooting you a wink and returning your credit card.
"Really? Out of all the alcohol in this bar, you're drinking what amounts to a chocolate milk?"
You roll your eyes at the familiar voice and down about ¾ of your drink, turning to face Rooster.
"Listen, Rooster. I don't need your shit tonight. I'm going through something-"
"With Adrian, right?" He asks, his voice drenched with disdain. "it's always fucking Adrian."
"Bradley, I swear to god-"
"Everything okay over here?" A voice inquires.
Rooster spins on his heels, towering over Adrian, "yeah, just talking about you. Funny how that works, isn't it?"
You groan and step around him, taking your dutiful boyfriend's hand in yours. "just talking about our anniversary tomorrow, i can't wait to see what you have planned."
Adrian pauses for a moment, then looks back at you, "you ready to go home, angel?"
You smile sarcastically at Rooster before greeting the rest of your group goodbye and heading home. The last thing you see as you pull away from the bar is Rooster shaking his head in the rear-view.
—-------
Rooster's POV
Every time Adrian puts his hand on you, it takes everything in Bradley not to gag. He doesn't deserve you. He'll never deserve you. Hell, no one probably deserves you.
That doesn't stop him from desperately wanting to call you his. He can't stand knowing what he does about Adrian and not being able to say a word.
He thinks back on the day he found Adrian in the Hard Deck bathroom with another woman when you were home sick. He remembers Adrian laughing and telling him, "she'll never believe you. Even if she does, she'll never forgive you for telling her."
The thought of losing you was the only thing that kept his mouth shut. But tonight, seeing his hands on you and watching you go home with him? It made him question whether or not he could live with himself if you found out from somebody else. Or worse, if you never found out and just stayed with him.
These thoughts had kept him awake for months, and it was starting to affect his every day. That night, he decided he had watched you drive away from the Hard Deck with the wrong man for the last time.
—--------
Reader's POV
The next morning, you wake up cold and alone. Adrian's side of the bed is made, but there's no note on his pillow like there usually is.
Y/N: Hey my love, where are you? The bed is cold without you :(
Seconds later, your message is marked read. The typing bubbles appear for a brief moment, but immediately disappear.
You shake your head and put your phone down before heading to the bathroom to get ready for work. You hop in the shower and use the fancy, special occasion body wash that Adrian had gotten you for your birthday, rinse off, then hop out. You put on your skinny jeans with that camisole he likes and start preparing his favorite, biscuits and gravy. While you start preparing the sausage gravy, you text him again.
Y/N: Hey, will you be home soon? I’m making breakfast before I have to head in.
This time, the message shows as read immediately, but the three characters that show in response to your question gives you a sinking feeling.
Adrian <;3: No.
You take a deep breath, fuming, but continue cooking. You pull the biscuits out of the oven and stick them in a Tupperware with the gravy, fighting tears the whole time.
As you put the food in a lunchbox to bring to Rooster, your phone buzzes with a notification from your Ring doorbell. You swipe the app open to see none other than Bradley freaking Bradshaw, looking into the camera with those beautiful, deep brown eyes.
“Hey, Sunshine.”
You sniffle and wipe your eyes, even though you know he can’t see you. “What do you need, Roo?”
“I need to talk to you. It’s about Adrian.”
