MY DAY ISNT OVER SO ITS STILL LNY AND NOW IM POSTING IT YAY - today was just coloring it, drawing was done over the weekend for the most part :’)

Other art obligations required attention first~ and also y’know, my 8-4/9-5 😔 (just writing my silly little code that I don’t actually know how to write on my own or test on my own yet because I don’t know how all of our microservices work …yet… I swear I’m learning, it just takes me awhile to process and learn)

oH also the last panel!!!! Guilin is short compared to Qiuniu. He has to stand on a chair to be tall enough to reach like that hahahaha. Qiuniu is 7ft. Guilin is 5’6ft.

finally got to sit down and draw my interpretation of Penelope, queen of Ithaca, from epic: the musical

also as a bonus, her namesake duck

#epic the musical #epic penelope #so. i got a few things to say as usual when i work on a design #first i knew penelope had a namesake duck. because her name literally means duck #there's another interpretation for her name but i couldn't ignore how wholesome it is. allegedly there's a myth around it too #where she was cast away by her parents and thrown in the water but was saved by ducks who carried her to shore #so her parents accepted her back. and not gonna lie i really liked that story #so i knew i would choose a hairdo that could specifically recall the feathers of a duck. and wouldn't you know #studying greek hairstyles and accessories i saw this hairnet the women would use. that makes the hair do just that #so that was the first clear thing i had in mind for her. next i looked at her namesake duck. and seeing its patterns i knew #that i had to give her freckles. and brown hair and eyes obviously #next is about her being spartan. i know stuff could change once she married odysseus. but also i didn't want her to separate too much from #her origins. so i like to think of her as fit and simple in style #i like to think she prefers to show through words and wits (matching her husband) that she means business #not through jewelry or fancy clothes. so she sports some jewelry but not too much #i also sneaked a duck in one of her brooches. because why not #and yeah i mean. i struggled picturing her shorter or same height as odysseus. i made him a short king and you'll deal with it #my art

dgaf about egg jokes they're harmless and at worst mildly stereotypical do your thing im sure ive made one before. however. i do feel like the whole discourse was kicked off by that "egg behavior to wear women's deodorant as a man" tweet and we all collectively need to agree that that tweet was dumb & stupid and women's deodorant is objectively superior to men's. actually men's hygiene products in general just suck more except razors. apparently its manly to smell like shit and have dry skin. if i had my druthers id force every cis man to use dove deodorant. id mean id still do it if it made them transgender but i see it as more of a public service in terms of smell than in that regard.

#men's clothes also are all Fucking Beige.#they fit better and are better quality material but fuck me they're boring unless you're willing to drop major cash #also i don't really get the egg thing bc i came out at 11 #so for me being an egg was just like i want to crawl out of my skin and i can't picture myself as a happy adult woman #but that's puberty right? oh.#and all these jokes are way more for like early 20 somethings that didn't have an inkling i guess #and i just don't get it bc i was always mixing male and female stuff growing up so i didn't care or see it as a sign #but if you DID have a gendered childhood and adolescence then yeah small gender experimentation like buying different soap would matter #i also did have some experiences more similar to what trans women seem to recount though so idk #like i used to privately (chastely) crossdress and take pictures of myself #and i don't think ive ever met another trans guy who did that unless they were from a strict religious backgrounf #or like religious women trying on jeans for the first time #anyway. I think it can reinforce gender roles a lot but not horribly so. Like mostly idc. Maybe don't say that to ppl you don't know well

IT'S JUST SO...!! savior's wardrobe scrubbed clean of her original culture and preferences #replaced with the foreign garments of her captor's nations.....in line with this. i love how her kokoshnik and khaenri'ahn earrings are big #and attention-grabbing. you can't look at her without taking note of those accessories. it begs the question:: how many times has savior #looked at the mirror after being dressed up in snezhnaya and was unable to recognize her own reflection?? :'>#also shoutout to some details aine shared with me: 1) the face marks are inspired by weeping angels 2) the kokoshnik was traditionally worn #by married noblewomen BUT the veil was normally for unmarried women so savior's outfit can be seen as a form of compliance + rebellion #(though later on in history it became accepted for married women to also wear that veil. also my apologies if what i said is inaccurate)#lastly shoutout to savior's expression!! very poised and mysterious....due to her emotional state or pierro's rules on how to act as his #spouse in public?? we'll never know~ the first drawing hits even harder when you compare it to the next one!! such an interesting contrast~#savior in her plain attire. casual and domestic with a smile on her face....i'm guessing this is her pre-fatui version?? she looks so warm #and friendly. and i can definitely understand why pierro fell for her smile <3 #also i fucking love the caption. sorry pierro but you are cursed to be a loser/ simp/ pathetic man in all of my fics and AUs xD #NOW ONTO GODDESS! #the flattened silhouette was pretty short-lived and by all accounts not much enjoyed because that's just uncomfortable and bad for you #and some women said fuck that and just didn't #there weren't a lot of real rules in the 20s when you got right down to it #like the books will show you how to fit clothes and alter patterns to get the fashionable silhouette #but it was also very up to the individual how things fit #don't look like you're wearing either a bag or a sausage casing was the general advice

Since that gothic anthy piece I've been thinking about a whole gothic rgu au... I'd really have to dig in deeper into indian-british history in order to develop this further (and to dress everyone more accurately) but I'm tentatively placing this in the 1830s... Akio could be an indian nobleman who worked with/for the east india company... Maybe did some shady stuff for it and was rewarded with a lavish mansion in the uk... Utena is some plucky orphaned girl who becomes his protégé... Anthy is the woman hidden away in the attic... But utena glimpses her at night... Mrs rochester core...

My logic/HC for why Lady dresses the way she does is that she figures any demon who hurts her will be able to hurt her regardless of whether she's wearing armor or not, so she might as well go for something with mobility to keep from getting hit in the first place. No point in wearing something that would restrict movement if a demon claw could tear your leg off whether you're wearing clunky armored pants or some easy-to-move-in shorts!

(Yes I know the real reason is that the devs like sexy minimally-clad women but let's just imagine it's the in-universe explanation okay)
