Considering his upbringing as a Greek demigod with a relatively present godly parent and an apparently open-minded mortal mother, with only a brief part of his childhood spent in fascist Italy, Nico is not very likely to have what we call “religious trauma” or “catholic guilt”.
Will, born and raised in the south of the USA in the early 2000s, on the other hand…
#I think the headcacanons about Nico’s experience in the other century and how they affected him are great!#internalised homophobia and guilt caused by growing up religious is a very interesting subject that many people can relate to#but for Nico specifically I don’t think the way the fandom portrays these ideas is accurate to his character#yanno?#nico di angelo#will solace#solangelo#pjo#riordanverse#percy jackson and the olympians#maria di angelo#hades pjo#religious trauma

There’s a very easy way to get around the fact that Assad is unable to pass for a teeenager if the show wants to adapt TVA and that’s to rely on the theme of unreliable narration. Armand begins retelling his history and according to him, he looked like he was in his early adulthood. No older than twenty four, for sure, but also not any younger than twenty. And then, just when the audience has bought it, just when this version of events has been presented as the truth for long enough, someone questions it. Asks if he really looked like that. Asks if he’s being honest with himself. And for the briefest moment, we flashback to Amadeo, the age he was when Marius first saw him. Beaten, shackled, afraid. And undeniably a child.
#allows you to have a TVA storyline where an age appropriate performer is acting it all out#since we CANNOT have Armand’s story portrayed by an actual child#but you just know Armand imagines himself as an adult. he blames himself. he was grown he had agency#but the truth is he was a child. a child who was abused and assaulted and forced to endure horror on horror#and this way you get the story AND the impact of ‘oh. you were a child. this happened to you and you were a child’#and you know he’s lying but this time it’s sympathetic to him. he lies because he has to#because admitting the truth will just shatter him#and I don’t think it should be Daniel to say ‘that’s not true. is it?’#(personally I think it should be Louis. who knows him so incredibly well. and that can be the place for forgiveness#for a reminder that Armand is horrible because of the horrors. and Louis accepting that and being properly let in for the first time.#77 years but only now and here is when I properly see you. and now we can love each other right.)#iwtv#interview with the vampire#Armand#tva#the vampire armand

#persona 3#persona 3 spoilers#minato arisato#makoto yuki#ryoji mochizuki#aigis#ryomina#lizzy does art#HELLO EVERYONE!!! march 5th is upon us again so i bring... my contribution for this year. my third year drawing for it!#i made the thumbnail for this a few weeks after last year's graduation day#i thought it would be fun to lean into the ryominaigis angle of graduation day (you could read this as minato/aigis if you like-#but i feel like most people would read it as ryoji/minato)#IN ANY CASE working on this made me very emotional over this game :') (specifically minato)#i really enjoy how p3 ends it's such a nice way of wrapping up the narrative's messages and themes#working on this. minato's kindness was at the forefront of my mind throughout the piece#and i really wanted to capture how. ultimately it was his decision to sacrifice himself- to do the great seal#while to an outsider's perspective it is. sad that minato passes. i think becoming the seal is something that minato-#actively welcomes. in the same way that death (ryoji) is a comfort to him because death was housed in him for Ten YearsTM#AND I ALSO GOT REALLY SAD OVER AIGIS TOO. i still get fucked up over how in fes's animated cutscene for 3/5 they portray-#her as human and not drawing the robot parts so i wanted to do something smilar here...#but also i am very sad on aigis's behalf because she discovers her humanity through minato and realizes what she-#wants to do and then. well. minato is like. he's ready to pass on (even if he's scared) and im like. OH MY GOD THIS TRIO GETS ME MESSED UP#this was more coherent in my head LOL BUT ough i like drawing p3 and working through my feelings about it...#anyway! happy (in quotations) march 5th. i love this game to bits. it's so fun to draw for this day every year and see how i've improved#if you've read all this thank you :) lizzy appreciates you all very much. mwah! <3

Peter Weir: ok this is the big finale and probably the most important moment in Todd’s whole story, showing the audience his growth from the shy awkward kid who couldn’t speak in class or participate in anything into this changed person
Ethan Hawke: don’t worry, I got this
Ethan Hawke: 🧍
#I love Ethan hawke but that was so silly the way he stood was so awkward like bruh 😭#you can feel Todd’s slight regret from acting out this rebellion and his awkwardness yet him pushing through it to take a stand and idk#it feels so Todd; like as much as I jest like Ethan hawke did such a good job portraying Todd as a character where he feels real even in#moments like that; like he is awkward and he may be doing this big thing but that doesn’t make him less awkward and like I think that’s an#important message for the audience that you can’t wait for confidence to take a stand; you just have to do it scared#you have to be vulnerable even if you are awkward about it because vulnerability and awkwardness are two sides of the same coin#dead poets society#dead poets fandom#dps#dps fandom#todd anderson#ethan hawke

One of my favourite moments in da2 is when, right after you go looking for Anders for the first time, you are confronted by a group of civilians who are fully prepared to kill you because they think you're wanting to harm or expose Anders. Like just completely normal, average people who have banded together to protect the guy who protects and cares for them all. Imagine being such a positive and well-loved force for good in a community that you have regular people so ready to die or kill to keep you safe and hidden. It's beautiful
#Genuinely like incredibly heartwarming#I will forever be salty they dropped off portraying Anders's role as the lowtown healer by act 3#Anders#Da#& if he knew these ppl were doing it I feel like he'd be touched but also tell them not to bc he wouldn't want anyone in harm's way for him#Which makes it even better cause like. He definitely didn't ask them to defend him. At most he asks ppl not to tell outsiders he exists#But they defend him anyway because he looks out for them#Gahhh Anders I love you so much.

genuinely curious how the writers and larger dragon age audience would treat thom rainier if instead of being appropriately* repentant and putting himself in prison he blew up a major orlesian government building to instigate a chevalier rebellion or tried to have someone do some necromantic blood magic ritual involving uncertain danger and possible sacrifices to bring the innocent children he ordered killed back to life
#*appropriately as in showing the expected amount of remorse in the appropriate way in a society founded on guilt and shame#i think blackwall actually tells us a lot about how dragon age's writers conceptualize justice and deservedness of punishment#im glad we get the option to forgive him but why do we get the option when anders is exiled at best?#and later characterized as a villain by dai#when solas is willfully imprisoned at best and trapped in a horrifying psychological torture chamber at worst?#blackwall gets a full redemption happy ending if inky so chooses#and im not saying he shouldnt#i forgive him every time#but its so interesting to me that narratively speaking#he seems to earn his happy ending through submission to punishment via imprisonment#as does solas but blackwall is portrayed far more sympathetically overall#there isnt the same meta-level narrative slander and clear agenda on behalf of the writing to make you feel a certain way about his crimes#as there is with anders and solas#why? whats the difference? what did he do to buy himself that narrative goodwill?#put himself in prison? why do the writers love carceral punishment so much lmfaooo#mine#if you wanna screenshot these tags and add them to the reblog feel free#im realizing i prob just shouldve put all of this in the post but its too late now#i think theres actually a strong argument that thom does not do nearly ENOUGH to right his wrongs#where is his effort to reform the orlesian military? where is his criticism of orlesian imperialism?#how does serving in the inquisition have a direct impact on the people he harmed? it doesnt#when you compare him to someone like roy mustang#yes im comparing him to roy mustang this is my blog and you are never going to escape roy mustang comparisons here#roy's political ambitions following his war crimes are directly related to those war crimes#and his goals directly benefit the same group of people he harmed#their ancestors and family members literally#meanwhile blackwall just kind of does vague “good” deeds and gets a full redemption#he really does not make much effort to repatriate the harm he did as a soldier#he just moves on#which again.... no shade to blackwall. my inky forgives him

Elvish art genre that definitely exists in Middle-Earth: the captivity of Elrond and Elros (mostly just Elrond, especially after Elros dies)
The paintings– done mostly, but not always, by Sindarin and anti-Feanorian Noldor artists– are usually studies in contrast– Elrond as the bright, innocent child dressed in white; often portrayed as a small, frightened elfling, frozen at the moment he was taken from Sirion. Sometimes he is shown bravely resisting the cruelty of the Feanorians, other times he mourns for Sirion, or bows and prays to the gods for deliverance. Sometimes, he's given wings, both to stress his connection with Luthien and Elwing and to make him look more angelic and pure in comparison to the fallen Feanorians.
Maedhros and Maglor are the dark monsters the oath made them, with teeth, and claws, and harsh armor. Some of the more daring artists just portray Maedhros as an actual orc. While few of the paintings actually show the Feanorians' crimes, they're often portrayed with blood on their hands or swords, or simply surrounded by fire and destruction. They often demand, or threaten in the pictures, towering over Elrond and casting long shadows on him.
There's a few different sub-genres of these paintings. The ones that explicitly compare Elrond's situation to Luthien's kidnapping by Celegorm. The ones that feature a grateful Elrond being saved from the horrible Feanorians by whoever the artist is looking to valorize– Gil-Galad, Galadriel, Oropher, Eonwe, etc. The ones that show Elrond, locked in a dark cell, staring longingly out at Gil-Estel rising in the night sky. Some of the strangest are the ones that draw connections between the Silmarils being kept in Morgoth's crown and the twins– often with Maedhros playing the role of Morgoth.
Elrond hates almost all of these paintings. He feels like they take away his ability to define his past the way he wants to– to tell his own story. Most of them are grossly inaccurate, but most people don't know that, and dredging up all those really painful memories to try and correct people's assumption is hard. Sometimes, even when he does, people won't listen. Some of the paintings also seem... weirdly gleeful about the idea that Elrond suffered because of the Feanorians? Like they're trying to martyr him even though he's alive, and doesn't want to be martyred. It all makes him really, really uncomfortable.
There is one exception. It's not a very traditional example of captivity paintings. Elrond is at the center of the frame, shown not as a small child but as a young adult. Maglor and Maedhros are mostly unseen in the background, each with a bloody hand on one of Elrond's shoulders. Unlike the other paintings, instead of looking off into the distance or staring demurely at the ground, Elrond is looking straight out at the viewer His expression is hard to place. Anger? Acceptance? Defiance? Pity? Accusation? It's a very odd picture that unsettles almost everyone that look at it.
Elrond insists on hanging it in Rivendell.
#silmarillion#silm headcanons#silm meta#elrond#elrond peredhel#eldritch peredhel#maglor#maedhros#i think a lot about how the elves would've turned their history into art#and i can very easily see Elrond becoming a muse for a lot of different types of paintings#including ones he'd really rather not be included in#it's hard because he knows that many of the Sindar have every right to see Maedhros and Maglor as monsters#but it's still really difficult for him to see them portrayed that way when he cared about them both deeply#the Maedhros and Morgoth comparisons are especially uncomfortable for Elrond#and he knows they would've been really upsetting for Maedhros#kidnap fam#kidnap dads

One of my favorite Astarion lines when you select him has to be the “More like Drizzt DON’T’Urden!” one. Not because it’s actually funny, but because there’s never anything Drizzt Do’Urden related happening whenever he says it. He’s just Thinking About Him.
#astarion#baldurs gate 3#bg3#baldur's gate 3#babblestar#bg3 astarion#drizzt do'urden#The way Neil portrayed Astarion’s fangirling over Drizzt in the High Rollers one shot is 100% canon.#like he just Thinks About Him Sometimes#blorbo from that time he saved the world#i bet Astarion has had the same thoughts about Drizzt that we have about Astarion#and good for him#baldur's gate iii#baldurs gate astarion#baldurs gate iii#baldur’s gate 3#baldur’s gate iii#baldur’s gate astarion#i know Neil’s favorite is ‘careful. i bite.’#and that’s a damn good one#but I love that my blorbo has his own blorbo

TW: rape
Something I really appreciated about The Sunshine Court was its nauseatingly realistic depiction of rape culture.
Jean’s (repeated, violent) sexual assault isn’t treated as something horrific; in the toxic environment of The Nest, it’s normalized. The real story — Riko ordering 5 male players to rape Jean as a sadistic way to ‘break him in’ — is quickly twisted by his abusers; Jean is seen as a calculating vixen who slept his way to the top, for a Perfect Court number:

They continuously mock and taunt Jean with senseless jokes about it. There is an element of jealousy at play; Jean is a prodigy player, and, as he says himself at some point in the book, his older teammates didn’t enjoy being shown up by a child. They certainly enjoyed knocking him down a peg, though, by humiliating him and creating an illusion that he only got his spot on the team for sleeping around, not his talent:

Even one of his rapists, Grayson, continues this false narrative despite knowing the truth (or maybe he even convinced himself this narrative is the truth; that Jean ‘seduced’ him for a spot on the starting lineup):

Other ravens who don’t know the truth seem to quickly believe the narrative that a 16 yo chose to sleep with a bunch of his superiors for a personal gain; that is certainly easier than entertaining the thought that your teammates (friends?) are capable of something this horrific. Or maybe they simply don’t question it too hard; after all, Jean can’t tell his side of the story.

The rumors eventually spread outside the Nest. Jean’s reputation is tarnished to the point that this is one of the first things strangers on the internet learn about him:

The most heartbreaking detail about it all is Jean’s age. He was a 16 boy on the college team, the youngest player on the lineup; a foreigner who couldn’t even speak English when he arrived; an outsider. Despite the fact that his young age is something that even the ravens find particularly scandalous about the whole situation, Jean’s agency is never questioned. He’s not seen as a minor who was taken advantage of by older, superior men — and most of them are quite significantly older, having already graduated by the time Jean’s 19; Grayson seems to be the youngest of them and he’s at least three years older than Jean.

As many victims of SA, Jean had no choice but to continue living with his abusers side by side, pretending like nothing happened. Knowing there’s absolutely nothing he can do.

The first time someone voices concern over the questionable circumstances surrounding the whole situation happens in this conversation with Jeremy (to be fair, it seems like Jean's age isn't public knowledge but the ravens obviously know):

And as many victims, Jean internalized his experience as something he deserved on some level:

TLDR: Sexual assault is, unfortunately, a very big part of our culture; it’s not just something that happens in the dark alleys; rapists aren't just scary strangers. They're also your friends, peers, teammates. The way the Nest (and the general public as a whole) turns a blind eye at best and mocks and humiliates the victim at worst is a microcosm of how SA is largely treated in real life. It was genuinely fascinating to see it depicted so realistically, even though it made for a heavy read at several points. I hope Nora keeps up the good work, and we'll see further exploration of the topic and Jean dealing with his trauma in the next book.
#there’s also the queerness of it all#and the ways in which jean’s queerness is used as a tool to punish him#but that’s for a different post#anyway#thank you nora for doing a great job depicting this#i know many people compare it to a little life#which i did too lol but!#tsc was actually so much better in how it portrays SA and the ways in which it affects people#despite being way campier on the whole (a little life is dead serious)#aftg#all for the game#tsc#the sunshine court#the foxhole court#tfc#jean moreau#grayson johnson#lucas johnson#kevin day#thea muldani#jeremy knox#riko moriyama
