Courage (supercorptober ficlet)
“You can scream at me if you like, I know I deserve it.”
So Kara did. She growled out how so many she loved could die that day, because Lena chose to work with a man who would love to see her dead and the world fallen. How all she had ever done was keep a secret, and yet Lena had found ways to betray her over and over again-
But she halted.
Lena stood in front of her, fighting a trembling lip, simply trying… to take it. Gone was the woman in the forest of Juru who had snapped back at her about her real name. Gone was the woman in Eve’s hidden lab, calling Kara out for seeing red whenever she felt vulnerable. Gone was the woman in the Fortress who yelled at her for being two-faced.
Where is her anger?
Kara gazed at Lena, remembering the last time Lena had stood in silence. It was, perhaps, during the one time in Kara’s life when she let her own vulnerability out. When she had confessed to being selfish and scared, to not wanting to lose the woman in front of her. Rao, look how that turned out… “The encryption,” Kara muttered.
Lena nodded, turning around to sit at her computer again. Kara stared at the floor, her fists clenched as her mind hopscotched across their relationship. There was the first day at LuthorCorp, when Kara wondered if it was possible for a super to have a different relationship with a Luthor than what her cousin and Lena’s brother had created.
She remembered the day she had asked James to search her vault. She remembered saving Lena from Metallo, and Lena saving her from Agent Liberty. She remembered Lena handing her the anti-kryptonite shield in Striker’s prison, and remembered Lena trapping her in kryptonite in the Fortress. Lena had used her and betrayed her, but Kara knew she herself was no angel - it had never been just about the secret. Life wasn’t that simple.
She glanced up again, to the trembling Luthor in front of her. She was brave enough to knock on my door, Kara mulled. She’s trying to build the suit, to keep me safe, trying to do the right thing. “I said I made just one mistake,” Kara murmured. “I know that’s not true.”
Lena turned part way back to Kara, and Kara’s heart twinged at the tears that the Luthor was trying to hide. “I don’t know if we can fix this,” Kara said honestly, “But I know it took courage for you to come back.”
Lena swallowed harshly. “Thank you.”

The mark of an excellent engineer is predicting the unpredictable. Anticipating how a user might misuse or abuse a product before they’ve ever laid eyes on it. Preempt the mistakes and the fringe use cases and design them into insignificance with failsafes and redundancies.
Lena is, by all accounts and conferred degrees, an excellent engineer. She designed the anti-kryptonite suit to withstand, well, everything. It’s built to handle abuse ranging from unplanned space flight to close contact with a nuclear warhead.
Most engineers don’t exactly take into account how their product might inadvertently abuse them, however. And in that respect, Lena is no better than the rest.
She watches Supergirl peel off that technically perfect helmet, not a splash of sickly green on her golden skin, and Lena expects to feel triumphant. Proud. Accomplished.
Instead, she feels affronted. There’s no other way to describe the physically oppressive tightening in her chest when the hero shakes out her hay-colored hair, helmet in hand. The headpiece comes off, gorgeously windswept curls tumble out of it, and Lena gapes as her last remaining brain cell goes up in smoke.
It’s like a goddamned motion picture. Down to the way Lena’s jaw hinges open, slack and completely outside of her control. Blonde waves cascade over the armor Lena hand-built for those broad shoulders and all her insides collectively squeeze. A wayward strand catches on a passing breeze and alights on a delicately flushed cheek, framing Supergirl’s handsome jaw. Lena huffs—at this point it’s just offensive.
She’s bordering on furious with herself for not considering the obvious danger in her design (irritatingly perfect hair, an ill-advised sapphic crush, and a glorified motorcycle helmet do not a productive match make). Unintentional harm or distraction to anyone—wearer or not—is simply an unacceptable failure mode in battle. Of course her irritation isn’t enough to keep her from raking her eyes appreciatively over everything that her suit emphasizes on National City’s beloved Kryptonian.
Lena’s debating alternative head coverings in her mind—throat still dry, eyes still roving, fingertips still itching to learn how soft those golden waves truly are—when Supergirl glances her way. She smiles and it’s like the sun catches on all of her at once. Light glints off her suit (Lena’s suit, that she made for her), illuminates her hair, dances in her smile and suddenly Lena understands why people worship her as a god.
The super is radiant as she walks over. “Lena,” she breathes, tucking the helmet under one arm. Lena’s sheer disgust with this entire cliché is the only thing that keeps her from moaning outright at the way her name sounds from that mouth. “You saved me.” Supergirl’s blonde head ducks bashfully and—oh, she gets to be cute now too? How dare she. A chuckle rumbles through the crest that Lena placed on her chest. “Again. You saved me again.”
Crystal eyes lock on hers and Lena’s awareness of anything outside those deep, searching blue flees her entirely. Struck dumb, Lena holds Supergirl’s gaze, chin lifted, until the hero finds whatever she’s looking for.
An irresponsibly cocky smirk curls at the corner of Supergirl’s mouth. It pushes her a step closer and the proximity shoots a wave of instability through Lena’s knees.
“Is there any way I can repay you?” The super says, voice low. Lena wonders briefly if she’s been transported to the set of a low-budget porno. As if on cue, her brain fires off three filthy responses in rapid succession. This cannot be happening. She swallows hard to keep those thoughts sequestered in her head where they belong.
Possessed by some force greater than herself (perhaps Luthor composure, roaring through her veins from a family she normally loathes to emulate), Lena straightens. One of her eyebrows arches and Supergirl’s smile grows.
She bites the inside of her lip thoughtfully and watches in delight as the Kryptonian stands up a little taller, expectant.
“There’s no need, Supergirl,” Lena purrs, right on script, reaching out to swipe her thumb over a smudge on the suit’s chest plate. Keen eyes track the movement, so Lena allows her touch to linger. She retracts her hand slowly and meets the hero’s eyes once more. They are eager, focused entirely on her, and a shiver of satisfaction bolts through Lena at the attention.
With a heavy flutter of her lashes, she drops her voice. “But now that you mention it, I would love to get my hands on that suit of yours.” She pauses, allowing the implication to swell in the air. “I have several ideas…” she casts her gaze down the Kryptonian’s front and up again, “for improvements I’d like to make. If you’d allow me, of course.”
Supergirl’s eyebrows near her hairline as she stutters, “Y-yeah, totally,” her voice a whoosh. Then she shakes her head, sloughing off her apparent stupor, and her grin is back in full force—sexy and blinding at once. “Seeing as this is your creation, I’d say I’m all yours.”
She pierces Lena with that clear-eyed stare. “Actually. Are you free right now, Miss Luthor?”
Lena bites down a smirk and savors the goosebumps that tickle the back of her neck. She nods once, quick and to the point. Supergirl’s smile blooms across her face, replacing the self-assured swagger with such genuine delight that Lena is battered twice with attraction and endearment. She mirrors the hero’s expression and loops her arm around the elbow offered to her.
They turn to leave at a leisurely pace, ignoring the long-suffering voice of Agent Danvers yelling after them.
“Hey. Hey! Where the hell do you think you’re going?! Ka—Supergirl! That suit is DEO property! Hey! Hey! Don’t you walk away from me!”
Supergirl laughs, eyes never leaving Lena’s as an agitated “motherfucker” echoes in their wake.

Vigilante
thank you thank you to @2-the-moon-and-2-saturnfor betaing <3
“Kara Zor-El, what the fuck were you thinking?”
The sound of Lena’s roar is quickly followed by heels snapping against the linoleum floor. Alex and Kara both shoot each other looks, like two kids about to get caught screwing around by the principal.
Within the second, Alex has hopped off of Kara’s bed and is carefully backing away.
The med-bay door slides open and Lena enters, her arms folded across her chest and brow raised. For a moment, she remains quiet as she takes in the scene. Kara’s lying in her suit on a stretcher, surrounded by red sun lamps, and connected to an IV drip.
Lena nods to herself and draws in a breath, shooting Alex a look before turning back to Kara.
“Two days,” she remarks and holds up two fingers. “You couldn’t wait two days for the kryptonite suit to be finished?”
Kara goes to respond, getting out a meek ‘I know, I-’ before realizing the question must’ve been rhetorical because Lena’s already cut her off.
“You promised you were going to lay low until it was done.”
“I didn’t know he’d have kryptonite!” Kara exclaims. (She regrets it as soon as she does.)
“Well, I don’t think that’s something criminals like to advertise.”
“Look, she took a calculated risk,” Alex interjects. “Maybe not the smartest one. But this is what she does– there’s always a chance of this happening, it just comes with the territory.”
Lena raises an eyebrow. “The territory? Kara’s life is not collateral, Director. It’s not worth the risk.”
“I’m not saying it is.”
“Then stop treating her like she’s indestructible. You know, I’m getting really tired of this vigilante shit and the DEO acting like–”
“Woah, this is not vigilante shit, Supergirl is a nationally recognized hero. She’s basically a member of law enforcement!” Alex argues.
“NCPD officers always have back-up. If Supergirl is a cop, then where the hell is her team?”
“Right here! The entire DEO is behind her, she–”
“Alex–” Kara cuts in. “Both of you, just stop.”
Lena retracts. She rubs her palms together and looks down at the floor.
“Could we just have a minute?” Kara asks, looking over at her sister. “Alone?”
Alex hesitates. She looks from Kara, to Lena, then back at Kara.
“We’ll be fine,” Kara adds and tilts her head towards Lena. “I’m okay.”
“Okay.” Alex exhales. “I’ll be in the conference room.”
Kara nods. She folds her hands together and scrapes the dried blood from beneath her fingernails as she waits for Lena’s rant to pick back up. After all, it isn’t like she doesn’t deserve it. She made a promise and she broke it. Broke Lena’s trust after years of building it up.
But the spiral never comes. Lena’s silent as her eyes graze the med bay again, watching the monitors on the wall, and the cuts on Kara’s chin.
“I… I’m sorry,” Kara speaks up eventually. She looks up with round, worried eyes, trying to feel out a response before she continues. “I didn’t want to make you mad.”
“I’m not mad,” Lena responds. She drops her arms by her side and then picks them back up again so she can tap her thumbs together. She needs something to do with her hands so the pent-energy circling inside won’t start to seep out again. “I know, with the yelling, but…”
She pauses and approaches the bed, sitting on the edge beside her girlfriend.
“I’m not mad.”
“I’d understand if you were,” Kara says. “I told you I’d wait and I didn’t.”
Lena nods. She gestures with her hand, her expression softening. When she goes to speak, all that comes out is a sigh.
She looks down and folds her hands together. They’re shaking– it’s practically imperceivable but they are. Kara reaches out to gently cover them with her own.
“You know, for three years I’ve been Supergirl without an anti-Kryptonite suit and I’ve always made it out okay,” she says. “And today was bad, I- I know how bad it was. But I’ll bounce back. I’ll be safer.”
Again, Lena nods and her eyes gloss over.
“I know.”
She smiles as she says it, the way she always does when she’s fighting back tears.
“But you’re…” Sniffing, Lena reaches out to trace the area by Kara’s scrape with her thumb. “You’re all cut up. You’re– you’re bleeding. You never bleed.”
“I’m okay,” Kara whispers.
But Lena doesn’t believe her. She shakes her head and sets her hand down, beginning to fidget with her fingers once more.
“You’re hurt.”
“I am… a little.”
“I don’t like seeing you hurt.”
“You’ve seen it before.”
“And I didn’t like it then either.”
Kara sighs. She reaches out to take Lena’s hand in hers, giving it a squeeze.
“I’ll be okay,” she says again. “I promise.”
“Yeah… you better be,” Lena says, her voice shaky. “Because I’m really fond of my girlfriend and I’d hate to lose her to some anti-Kryptonian creep.”
“You’re not gonna lose me.”
“Sure.”
“You’re not.”
Lena looks up and meets Kara’s eyes.
“How am I supposed to believe that?” She asks. “All I asked for was two days to finish your suit… and you went out anyway.”
Kara averts her gaze, drawing her bottom lip between her teeth.
“And I know you’ll be fine this time. But what if next time is different? I don’t…”
The words get caught in Lena’s throat. They’re heavy in her mouth, she wishes she could swallow them.
“I can’t do this without you.”
She isn’t sure what this is referring to. These relationships, these friendships, this job.
All Lena knows is she’s gotten used to her life and for the first time in as long as she can remember, she really fucking likes it. She likes that she gets to come home from work to her best friend and the penthouse they made a home together. She likes that there are two toothbrushes in the holder on her bathroom sink, and a pair of sneakers next to her heels by the front door. She likes that when Kara showers, she can hear her singing in the other room, and that they have Fast Food Fridays because, at the end of the week, neither of them ever wants to cook.
So maybe it’s all of it. Lena likes her life– loves it, even. Kara is the one person she can’t imagine doing it without.
“You won’t have to,” Kara breathes. “I promise.”
Lena doesn’t say anything. She soaks in the silence until Kara feels ready to continue.
“Today, when I fell and the wind got knocked out of me… I felt this… this rush. Like… you know how people talk about their life flashing before their eyes?”
Lena nods.
“It was like that except it wasn’t my life, it was like, I was seeing what I’d miss if… if something really did happen. It was all of these moments a- and all I could think was, I can’t miss this… I can’t not live it.”
“What did you see?” Lena asks, her voice hardly above a whisper.
“So much.” Kara smiles and sits up, leaning her weight on her hands. “It was me and you in this big house. And we had pets– a dog and a cat. And we were so happy.”
Lena draws her bottom lip between her teeth, the corners of her mouth curling into a smile. She’d be lying if she said she hadn’t had similar fantasies.
“That sounds nice.”
“Yeah,” Kara agrees. “And then I… I hit the ground and I knew I’d messed up. And I- I regretted it so much– I still do.”
Lena looks over at her. She wants to ask what that means, what all of it means. The flash forward and the regret, what it really is to mess up. But again, she’s quiet.
“I want that life with you,” Kara continues. “And I was so stupid to risk it today when all you’d needed was two more days.”
“You’re not stupid.”
“I know. But the choice I made was.”
Lena nods.
“I want the big house and the dogs and all of those moments with you. Supergirl is… I love Supergirl but you are my family. She’s just a job.”
“Kara… what are you saying?”
Kara smiles. Her heart’s beating so fast it could burst right out of her chest, but this feels right. It feels good.
And before she knows it, two more words have slipped out. “Marry me?”

Supercorptober Days 29 & 30: "Stars/Magic"
Kara is seeing stars, and not the good kind. As she struggles unsuccessfully to pick herself up out of the rubble from the wall she was just blasted through again, she takes stock of her condition. Her head is spinning, there’s a sharp pain shooting down her left side, and she’s pretty sure she tastes blood. She’s having trouble focusing, but even if her blurry vision makes it hard to see the telltale green coloring her veins, the agonizing burn of the kryptonite currently coursing through her body is an all too familiar sensation.
Where did they even get kryptonite? Kara still can’t figure it out. With the resources of the new DEO behind them, the team had been able to thoroughly scour all of Lex’s old hideouts for any remnants, and Brainy had run signature traces for any they may have missed. And as far as she knew, Lena was the only person left alive who knew how to make synthetic kryptonite - unless someone else had finally figured it out.
Lena. Where was Lena? Kara squinted her eyes through the spots dancing in front of her and tried to find the brunette. She never would have let Lena come if she knew there was going to be kryptonite. How is Kara supposed to protect her if she’s incapacitated? (Much like she is now, unfortunately). Not that Lena necessarily needs Kara’s protection as much as she used to, not now that she has gotten so much more comfortable with her magic, and can definitely hold her own in a fight. But still, it’s Lena.
Kara is just barely able to make out the distant movements of J’onn’s blurry green, black and red form. Nia’s bright blue dream energy streaks across her view, then a flash of yellowish orange in her peripheral she knows is from Alex’s favorite blaster (her favorite one this month, anyways). Suddenly two concerned jade eyes swim into her vision.
“Supergirl, are you okay?” Lena’s voice is a balm to her ringing ears, the comforting familiarity of it soothing her ever so slightly. Kara maintains eye contact as best she can and manages a small nod, even as her features involuntary contort into a grimace. There’s a hand pressed firmly to her chest, followed by a faint whirring sound as Lena activates Kara’s anti-kryptonite suit. “God I need to upgrade your suit, this really should be a standard feature,” she hears Lena mutter with a hint of exasperation in her voice. Then a gentle command - “Just stay put while the suit does its job. We’ve got you covered.”
Lena quickly turns around and casts a protection spell to shield her from any further kryptonite blasts. Kara marvels at the wall of shimmering golden energy that materializes in front of her. Rao, this woman is amazing. As she feels the suit beginning to combat the effects of the green poison still weakening her body, she thinks about the many times that Lena has protected her or saved her life. Even though Kara is supposed to be the one doing the protecting. Has Kara saved Lena as many times? Honestly, she’s lost count of both tallies at this point. What she does know, with no uncertainty, is how lucky she is that her harrowing journey through the stars all those years ago somehow led her to this life, to this incredible woman now fighting by her side.
After what feels like forever, the superhero is finally able to stumble to her feet as the pain of the kryptonite subsides and her strength and other abilities slowly start to return. Just as she’s trying to get a read on the situation so she can rejoin the battle, she watches Lena’s protective wall of magic dissipate into the air. She realizes that while she was still down, the team had managed to subdue the criminals, and now J’onn and Alex are working on securing the hostile weapons while Nia dashes off to do a perimeter sweep. Still a little weak, Kara wobbles shakily when she starts to walk, and then Lena is by her side in an instant, arm wrapped around her waist to steady her.
“Hey you,” she says with a tender smile. “You had me worried for a minute there.”
Kara smiles back, even though Lena can’t see her face through the dark visor of her helmet. “I’m going to be just fine, thanks to you :zhao.”
“Khap :zhao rrip vahdhah.” Lena leans in and plants a light kiss on the front of Kara’s helmet, as the swirling blues and purples of a portal appear next to them. “Come on darling, let’s go home.”

What is my absolute favorite of their scenes and why do I love it so much?
Oh I don't know...there are many good classic scenes. For the sake of spicing it up I'll talk about a moment that I don't often see people discuss and that is actually from an episode that I otherwise don't really like, namely: the scene in 5x19 where Kara is on the ground with kryptonite coursing through her veins and then Lena's anti-kryptonite device flies in and attaches itself to her suit and before it's even started working, Kara smiles and laughs. Just...the fact that Kara is in (if we are to believe her assessment in S3) incredible pain and that doesn't even matter to her because Lena's on her side again. I think that's a really sweet moment and it captures a lot of what I wish S5 & S6 had been about for them lol.
8. Am I most interested in fics about them that focus on fluff, angst, humor, smut or actual plot?
Angst, humor, & plot are all good with me. Fluff & smut tend to bore me.
9. What is my ideal endgame for them?
Hm, I could envision several good endgames for them (none of which include Lena being a witch or Kara becoming editor-in-chief or revealing herself to the world lol). I think ideally Kara would eventually become known as Superwoman and maybe would become more of an independent freelance journalist, while Lena would run the Lena Luthor Foundation which presumably funds Good Things. Lena would keep kryptonite on hand in a secret vault in case of emergency and Kara would be cool with it, and Lena would also design all kinds of suits & accessories for Kara (sorry Brainy but your Supergirl suit design was not very good). I like the idea of Kara having a longer, more stately cape especially as she grows older and more confident.
I do think they'd both want to get married, probably in a Kryptonian or Kryptonian-inspired ceremony. I think they should get a cat or a dog or both. I like lena-in-a-red-dress's fic where Lena adopts Dex-Starr the Red Lantern cat so let's say their cat is Dex-Starr. And their dog can be Rex from sango-blep's comics. Rex is cute.
I like the idea of them having kids, though I also think they'd be OK without them. If they did have kids I think the kids would be Luthors, not Danverses or Luthor-Danverses. They would also probably be created via birthing matrix or a similar technology invented by Lena because I can't imagine either Kara or Lena wanting to get pregnant lol. I like Leo Alexander as a name for a boy. I'm less sure about names for girls (maybe Sasha? Elizabeth? Linda?) but I don't like Lori, I know that's popular because of an old comic where Lena has a daughter named Lori but I am not a fan.
16. What are three of my fic recs for this ship? And (in the event that I’ve written something for them) one of my fics involving them that I’m most proud of?
Catfishy Business by whythinktoomuch is an iconic and deeply funny fic.
lena dies on a wednesday by karalovesallthegirls is a GREAT time loop fic that ingeniously puts us in the shoes of someone who doesn't know they're in a time loop. I think you've said you've read it? Still, it bears re-reading.
There are so many other great fics I could rec but I'll rec one that is a little bit lesser-known, since I've already named two very well-known fics. Which is and darling (is there a cure for this hunger?) by m_oliverfan, aka There Are Consequences To Sending Nyxly To Eternal Torment Land, Actually.
I've only finished one fic for SC so far which is laid in thine enemy's grave? - in truth, i dig it, which I believe you've also read. ^_^
20. How and when should they have gotten together?
I think in a better S5 where they started talking to each other sooner -- end of 5x13 would've been a good time -- and had some time to work through some stuff, I could see an end-of-S5 confession or kiss working. In terms of the actual show, which was never very good at writing romance, I think a Korrasami-style 'they end up together or are implied to end up together as part of Kara finding herself' would've charmed me.
#me? saying something positive about 5x19? it's more likely than you think#sideguitars#up up and away#duck's impeccable fic recs

ALL Chapter 13 Closing thoughts
Normally, I would have done this in the author's notes at the end of the chapter, but I was feeling too much from finally getting to the end of my very first fic, and also I think I may have had too much to say it might not have all fitted. Anyway, I'm doing it now, so consider this your spoiler warning for my fic if you haven't read it. If so, I would definitely consider doing so, especially before you read this bit, as it discusses the final chapter https://archiveofourown.org/chapters/149705248
So, with that out of the way, let me get into this. This chapter has always essentially been about establishing the new status quo after the tumult of the past three chapters. Everyone had gotten started on their healing journies by chapter 12, but some of them (cough* Alex *cough) still had some ways to go. So, I had to give them enough time not only to finish those journeys, but also to settle into the new way of things once they had done so (and wrap up whatever lingering plotlines that were still hanging).
Honestly, I'm not totally someone to reckon with the fallout of things outside the scope of the fic I am interested. There is a lot to be said about the press and public's reactions to what's happened in this fic and many others, wrangling with keeping Kara's identity secret from her coworkers or the DEO and government. There are dozens of inconsequential actions that any number of the characters do that could be overheard or witnessed that would have far-reaching repercussions, but I don't really dive into them unless they directly interest me or there is something I want to directly address. So yes, someone could totes have seen Kara superseded out of CatCo and figure out her identity or some rando at the DEO overhear Alex call Kara by her name instead of Supergirl, but will probably never happen in my fic because I don't care about that sort of thing.
Now, you may be wondering why I am bringing this up. I bring it up because that is exactly what I am doing in the opening of this chapter. Normally, I wouldn't really bother with any sort of negative outcome between Kara and the government, or at least wouldn't give it it's own dedicated scene. The reason I did this time is specifically because of a fic I read some time ago that never sat right with me. I won't say which, and really this isn't about why that fic is wrong (I don't think it's wrong at all, it just didn't jibe with my personal interpretation of the character, nothing more, nothing less. Everyone is free to write how they please). Anyhow, in that fic, Kara did something similar to what she did in chapter 10 of my fic, and when the president started talking down at her about it, she just let herself be cowed and was like, "yeah, won't happen again. My bad.). I certainly understand this reaction, especially in the context of how Kara can be in both Canon and Fanon, but that's not my Kara. My Kara stands her ground, especially when it comes to Lena. I will admit beyond that, I do deeply enjoy this scene, and I don't regret adding it at all. I did also briefly set it up back in the beginning of chapter 4 when Kara the president's visit (just more so that they had met, so it wouldn't be out of the blue when they talked again in the end)
Another thing from this scene that's more of a mention and less of a feature, but you just know that Lena made Kara a kryptonite resistant suit, and I don't know why the DEO never invested more effort in that. I have a series of headcanons about Kryptonian powers and Kryptonite, so let me know if you want to know more about that, as it is directly involved with how it works in my writings, and also how things like how anti-Kryptonian and anti-Kryptonite technologies work.
Let's talk about titles. For the longest time, I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to title this fic. This is legitimately one of my greatest struggles. I seem to be able to name other people's fic pretty well, but when it comes to mine, I just don't know. For the longest time, my WIP title was Supercorp Secret Marriage which just doesn't make any sense as an actual title. Then, for another long stretch of time, I thought the title was going to be Prime, as the crux of the fic is really when Kara goes Prime mode to rescue Lena (I'm not super duper familiar with the comics, but my understanding is that there are some comics where the supes get a ridiculous power boost, and they are typically called supergirl/man/boy prime. Could not be quite right). Anyhow, that was the best I could really think of, but it never sat quite right with me. Partly because I think it's sort of boring, and also because I was petrified that someone would somehow guess where the story was going, and I wanted to do my best to shock everyone.
The other title I briefly considered was The Day the Sun Fell to Earth. This falls in the same line as a title surrounding chapter 10, specifically in reference to how brightly Kara was glowing as she descended to the DEO, it looked like the sun was falling to earth. I thought that might have required a bit too much of a leap to put together though (I did include it as a bit of a fun reference in this chapter, regardless of the fact no one would really get it but me). This title and the previous had the same flaw in my mind though, because while that scene was really the keystone of the fic, the title only related to that one scene and had nothing to do with anything else in the entire fic.
This is something that was bothering me the entire fic, from the time when I barely had the outline completed. In the end, as you all know, I went up going with At Long Last. These words are from the very final sentence I wrote for the whole fic, and as soon as I wrote them I knew that I had my title. Because, while the first scene of chapter 10 was what I built the fic towards and around, there is so much more to it now, and this sentiment fits so perfectly with what I had already written about Kara's thoughts and feelings about the secret that I was once again struck with the idea that I couldn't have planned it better had I tried.
The build up of this theme really started in chapter 2, before Kara even got together with Lena (as a brief aside, this makes me feel like I'm in school again writing a book report using quotes to support my argument, except for I wrote it and I'm explaining my own thoughts instead of someone else's). I'm just going to post the timeline of quotes as this theme develops.
Chapter 2:
If only he [Kal] would let up on Lena, she thought her life might be perfect, or at least as close to perfect as anything could ever come with the gaping hole the loss of her planet had left within her.
Chapter 3:
“So, it falls to me to preserve my culture, my language, my people, but I feel like I am failing them. For so long I have held them tightly in my heart. No matter how much I love Earth, how much I love the Danvers, Krypton has always been my home. Now, Krypton isn't my home anymore, you are,” Kara pulled back to look at Lena with pleading eyes, “Does that mean I've failed them?”
Chapter 13:
“There‘s a time you might have been right, when that's what I would have seen, but that was before I met Lena,” Kara said, her tone almost wistful, “She helped me accept that Krypton was gone, but still with me. For years while I was in the phantom zone, then on earth, I struggled to even comprehend the death of Krypton, the loss that it caused me. There were times, even after I had been on earth for years that I would wake up and forget what had happened, despite the fact that I had watched the whole thing with my own eyes. “Some days in that moment just before I opened my eyes, I expect to see my bedroom, to be able to look out over the skyline of Argo and see the red skies beyond it, and every time I woke to see our bedroom in Midvale, or my apartment, every time the window showed me National City's skyline and skies of blue, I broke all over again. And while I love you, I truly do, and Eliza, and everyone else I had on earth, it couldn't plug the whole that the loss of Krypton had made.” Kara paused for a moment, looking out of the window with a far-off expression on her face, as if in that moment she was seeing the cityscape Krypton out past the glass, but it lasted for only a moment before she continued speaking, her attention returning to her sister as she did so, “Then I fell in love with Lena. She was the first one to even come close to filling the void within me. She learned Kryptonese, not to help me acclimate easier to earth, or from some sense of idle curiosity about where she had come from, but because she knew how much it meant to me, how much it gladdened me to hear it even while it tore the scars off my wounds. Little by little, piece by piece, even before I realized she was doing it, she filled that void, until one day there wasn't a void anymore, there was only Lena. The pain was still there, but it was no longer debilitating. I no longer woke in the wrong bedroom, or on the wrong planet, I woke up to her.” ... “What I want, more than anything,” Kara said, bringing Alex's attention back to her, “Is for my family to accept my wife. I didn't need the black mercy to tell me that.” ... Kara looked around, her friends and family surrounding her, laughing and joking, drinking and playing. Lena was tucked into her side, completely at home amongst everyone, her wife was laughing openly at something her sister had just said, and finally, at long last, everything was perfect.
This theme is really what brought so much of this fic together in the way it did, and it weaved throughout my preferences to form new headcanons and all the lore about Kara and Kryptonians that helped me so much to sell this story. I love all the ideas that came from this fic so much that they have just become my default settings for Kara and Krypton going forward. This is my Kara, even more so than the one I came into this process envisioning, and I think that theme was much more worthy of the title than just that one scene (I still adore that scene though, don't get me wrong, but even it is so much better in light of the headcanons this story helped me build).
Well, I've already written so much, and I haven't actually even started reading back through the chapter yet, so I think I am going to do that so I can go back to the more "normal" word vomiting I usually do.
If anyone was curious exactly what Kara was implying when she was talking to the president right at the end, she was totally telling her that while her disguise might have been fooling everyone else, it was not fooling her. Kara totes knew she was an alien, and if the president was going to go mucking about in her family, Kara was more than capable of firing back. It might not be a morally great action, but I've always viewed Kara as someone who's family comes first over anything else.
Something else about this that no one may realize though, is that Kara does still hold them to a high standard of morals and behavior. There is one little tiny word choice that really shows that in this conversation she has with the president. When Kara is laying down the law, she says, "...if the DEO or any other agency of the government does come after Lena without valid reason." Notice, Kara specifically says, "without VALID reason," and that is an intentional word choice by both her and me. Kara would not let anyone, not even Lena, do anything morally corrupt or villainous and let them get away with it just because they are her family (She also does say this with complete confidence that Lena would never give valid reason though). She would probably still prefer to take care of it herself than let the government step in, but I digress. I talk about things like this a lot as absolute, but these are more guidelines for me, and I totally might bend them for certain fics in the future to get out an idea I have though.
I threw Lucy into this scene for no other reason than because I wanted to. Really there was nothing else behind it.
You all just know that Lena was waiting for that moment at game night where she finally got to stake her claim in public, really hammer it home even though everyone technically already knew. Speaking more on that scene, as much as I don't like certain characters (James and Mon-El) I do try not to take out my biases, valid or not, on them in my writing. I did definitely sideline them since I didn't care to write much about them than was needed, but I don't feel like anything I wrote about them was either untrue to their character nor unrealistic in an effort to justify my choices. I stand buy it. Actually, as a matter of fact, I almost convinced myself that Mon-El wasn't as bad as some of the things that sort of get glossed over in canon. In the future, I may just exclude them from my fics, though without Mon-El in this one, we wouldn't have gotten that scene where Lena was possessive and jealous.
As much as I don't necessarily care for Winn as a character (I don't dislike him, but neither do I have any particular fondness for him, nor do I think he should have come to the DEO in season 2 (hence I brought brainy instead)) He did do me a solid in this chapter and chapter 5 by giving me a path through some difficult-to-write interactions.
So, I will readily admit that I definitely just brushed CADMUS and Lillian aside without much thought or wordcount. I never really cared too much about that plot by itself. It was definitely the B plot. It only really served to push the secret relationship agenda forward by butting Kara and Lena into odd spots where the cracks started showing a bit (by making Kara act up, so that Alex would notice it essentially), then obviously they put up a big part of the plot by getting Lena arrested. After that was done though, their role in the story was over, so off they went into the sunset without much fanfare.
I love the little call back I had to chapter 3, when Alex was thinking about Kara and Lena, and she was like, "I bet if Lena pushed Kara she would just fall over. It's a ridiculous thought though." I cackle every time I read that part, no matter how many times it's been.
I could probably write a full TED talk about every paragraph in this chapter, and every other chapter for that matter, and I think this post is already ludicrously long, so I will try to only hit the main parts I wanted to address here, and maybe pick up some of the other bits when I do the further posts I have planned.
That being said, there is maybe my second favorite scene in this entire fic that I've yet to say anything, and that is the moments between Alex and Lena after Lena saves Alex from the kidnapper. I won't lie, I definitely lean a bit more towards Kara than Lena, but this scene is something that I just love more than I can express. I love to see that protective side from Lena that we are used to seeing from Kara, and Lena finally got to say her piece after so long spent holding it in. It was very hard to get that scene to flow well and I spent at least an hour writing just those few lines of Lena's dialogue. I think part of it may be that Alex just seems to never be held accountable for any of that. Some of the scenes I included in the flashbacks were just to justify having Lena bring up all these points and hold Alex accountable for it, and don't even get me started on that threat she leveled at Alex. I wrote that and it still gives me the chills every time I read it. I love literally everything about this scene, down to the smallest detail.
Anyway, I think I am going to call this here. I still have some plans to go back through and make a few more posts. There are still quite a few details and such that I packed in there that no one has, as far as I know, noticed. I wanted to go through them, since I love them, and bring them to everyone's attention so they can enjoy them like I do. Secondly, there is so much that I feel I learned in answering everyone's questions, where I feel like I know twice or thrice as much about all the characters and their motivations than I did when I started, and I want to parse back through all that. If I may brag for a moment, I think my greatest strength as a writer is how cohesive everything is, and by answering all the questions you had I learned more about my fic then I know when I posted it, and I love just how perfectly it all fits. Anyway, if anyone actually made it this far, let me know if any of that is of any interest to you

Idk if you've seen the latest episode of My Adventures with Superman...but now would be a great time for the OTHER Luthor to show up with uh...some anti-kryptonite suits. (Cue that "where is she?" scene of Lena just rocking in like she owns the place.)
If only, my friend. If only.

Kara gasps at the sight of the suit Lena is proudly standing beside, a positively attractive smug look painted across her face.
“Lena, it’s incredible.” She moves closer tentatively with her arm outstretched. The moment her fingertips brush against the fabric, she starts grinning. “Can I try it on?”
Lena shrugs. “Well, it is yours so it would be rude of me to say no.”
Kara’s face is the picture of wonder and Lena just can’t take her eyes off of her, not having it in her to get her to hurry because the team is still out there fighting against the Lexo-suits. Kara takes her time in looking the suit over, her hands running over it several times over as she takes in every tiny feature of it.
“I have no idea how you found the time to do this but it’s incredible. You’re incredible.” Kara takes the helmet in her hands. “You do realize that I have a head of steel though right? I don’t think I need a crash helmet.”
“It’s to lock in the suit because when you have the helmet on, you’re in an environmentally controlled space and that means that you are protected from Kryptonite as long as the helmet is on with the suit,” Lena explains. “Now, are you going to try it on? I think that there are a few people outside that would love to see your new look.”
In response, she gets another grin and then Kara speeds away with the suit in tow. She returns not two seconds later wearing the suit with the helmet tucked beneath her arm. “How’d I look?”
“Positively incredible,” Lena answers, her eyes taking in the assets in front of her…the assets of the suit that is. Totally.
Kara nods. “Awesome. I’m gonna go test it out and get the others back here. Back in a jiff!”
As she practically skips away to leave The Tower, Lena has to resist the urge to roll her eyes at Kara’s choice of words but it would be a shame to break eye contact with the curve of her ass and her thighs that are no longer being covered by a pesky thing like a cape.
Kara rounds the corner and just like that, Lena snaps out of her very obvious gawping and kicks herself back into gear. There’s a war raging outside and she can’t just waste time staring at a very attractive ass rather than working.
With a bit of pep in her step, Lena makes her way back to the monitors to see what is happening outside and keep track of where the team is before she goes and starts working the synthetic Kryptonite so she can destabilize the cores of the Lexo-suits.
Kara’s tracker moves quickly, Lena’s eyes following the little blue dot that marks Kara’s location as she soars across the city. Through the CCTV footage, Lena can see the Lexo-suits aiming for her with their kryptonite blasters which have little effect other than a slight impact from the force of it. The suit is absorbing it all though, just how she designed it.
Supergirl lands with her hands on her hips, her helmet shielding her face and stopping Lena from being able to see what her expression is but she’d say that it’s a fair assumption that she’s probably looking either like an excited puppy or an overly confident, smug alien with one hell of an ego boost. It’s probably somewhere in between though.
Alex is looking up at her from her hiding spot with a shocked expression. That’s a feat in and of itself because Alex isn’t one to wear her emotions on her sleeve, especially in the middle of her fight, always keeping as much of what she’s thinking to herself as she possibly can just in case it can give her an advantage.
Her eyes drift up and down the figure in front of her, the glyph on their chest giving away their identity right away.
“Supergirl?”
“That’s me! Look at the awesome suit Eagle One made me, it’s anti-kryptonite!” Kara gushes, doing a little spin that is definitely not how she should be acting whilst there are Lexo-suits still actively seeking to murder her.
Alex’s head bobs up and down, mostly just because she’s in shock because they have been trying to figure out a way to protect Kara from kryptonite for years and have never managed to come anywhere near as close to protecting her to this level before. The best they did was when Winn made her a kryptonite shield that gave her some protection from it and Brainy later boosted its power of it but it never stopped it from hurting, not the way this suit must be because she’s watching Kara be pummelled with blasts and she’s not so much as flinching.
Alex ducks back down where she has been taking cover behind a truck and urges Kara to come and join her. When Kara slides next to her, she grabs her wrist. Do you have contact with our friend in The Tower?”
Kara nods. “Yeah, the comms in my helmet work.”
“Cool, then Eagle One, I’m totally buying you a bottle of something good for making this suit for this dummy.” Alex leans closer to Kara and raises her voice to make sure that Lena can hear her.
Lena chuckles to herself. “Supergirl, please tell Sentinel that she’s very welcome and I will gladly accept that bottle.” She laughs harder when in response she hears Kara whine in annoyance.
Kara bumps her shoulder into Alex’s. She said she wants the bottle and that you’re welcome.”
Alex grins. “Tell her—”
“No!” Kara holds up a hand. “I am not doing this. We have to get to the others and we have to get back to The Tower. We have to make a plan because this is all a mess.” She gestures up to the Lexo-suits that are still blasting away around them.
Alex looks up at the sky and then at the destruction left behind by the Lexo-suits, the rubble of what used to be important buildings. It’s sad to see and it tugs at her heartstrings but there’s no time for that right now. “I know where Kelly is, she’s a couple of blocks away, she was helping people trying to escape.”
“Hold onto me and tell me which way,” Kara demands while wrapping an arm around Alex’s waist and shooting up into the sky before she can fully register what just happened. She gains her bearings rapidly once they are in the sights of the Lexo-suits that immediately start firing at them, Kara turning her back to them and taking the brunt of the blasts.
She points Kara in the direction of where she saw Kelly last before they were forced to split up so they could try and get any civilians that have changed their minds and want to leave after earlier refusing to out of the city, or at least out of the city centre where a lot of the destruction is being targeted towards.
Kelly is found really quickly, her gold suit helpful for spotting her, something that’s a good thing when they are the ones trying to find her but not so good when it’s enemies trying to target her. They land right beside her and she looks at them with a face full of relief. The civilians are nowhere to be seen so they either took off or are hiding again and taking cover.
“Nice suit, Supergirl.”
“Thanks!” Kara grins beneath her helmet and offers her a hand. “We’re reconvening at The Tower so grab hold and then I’ll head out to find the others.”
Kelly finds herself quickly scooped up by Kara with a hand around her waist and Alex in the same position opposite her. Even though she knows that Kara has got her and that she couldn’t be in safer hands, she still keeps a good grip on Kara’s shoulders, her knuckles whitening from how hard she’s holding on.
Kara drops them off just up the block from The Tower. “Here, head right on up and get filled in on what we know. Any idea where the others are?” Kelly shakes her head just as Lena comes in through the comms, telling her exactly where to find Nia, Brainy and J’onn because she can see them on the CCTV footage. “Thank you, heading out now.”
Alex and Kelly figure out who she’s talking to right away and wave her goodbye whilst heading for the entrance to J’onn’s PI office since they have to get inside through the ground floor since it’s on lockdown. It’s a good thing really because the second they are inside and the elevator doors shut behind them, they feel instantly safer and can actually catch their breaths without being shot at.
Kara, on the other hand, is actively being shot at whilst searching for the others. She finds them dutifully fighting away across town, Nia creating a protective shield out of dream energy whilst Brainy uses physics in a very odd yet effective way to lure the Lexo-suits in closer to him so he can study them for any signs of weaknesses. It’s not great news though because he has yet to see anything.
J’onn is flying high above them and using his pure strength to rip them apart. It’s somewhat effective but it’s a slow process and with the sheer number of them, he would be here for months trying to rid the city of them if he was to stick with this method.
Kara aims for him first and she takes him by surprise enough that he grabs her by the shoulders with a decent amount of pressure before pausing when he realizes that she’s not an enemy.
“Sorry.” He apologizes right away, releasing her.
“Don’t worry about it. We’re heading back to base to make a plan. I’ll get Nia, you get Brainy.”
J’onn nods resolutely. “Got it.”
Kara doesn’t give Nia any warning before flying down and scooping her up, laughing when she squeals softly and drops the badass persona she was donning just a moment ago.
“Hey, Dreamer. I got a new suit!” Kara boasts.
Nia recognises her voice and relaxes into her. “Holy shit, you scared me. Jerk.” She swats at Kara’s helmet with the back of her hand.
“Hey! Don’t hurt my totally cool helmet.”
As she’s flying, purposely flying high up in the clouds to try and avoid as many of the Lexo-suits as possible, she turns her head to see J’onn and Brainy flying just behind them, very obviously using Kara as cover for when they occasionally get shot at. Kara’s not sure if she’s offended by being used for cover or not but she’ll figure it out once they are safe and the fight is over.
She flies right into the office and heads for the wall where the elevator is hidden, only setting Nia down when they are all inside the tiny space and on their way up to the others. The rest of the team is waiting for them when they arrive up into the main part of The Tower and they all share a brain cell for a single moment when they roll their eyes at Kara’s dramatic hair flip after pulling her helmet off and tucking it under her arm the same way she did earlier.
“Show off.” Nia mumbles.
Kara, having heard it thanks to a little thing called Super hearing, smiles at her with a shrug. “Sometimes you’ve just got to.”
Nia can’t help but agree with that. Sometimes she just has to have her diva moments too and if she didn’t then she’d be the most boring person on Earth…or maybe the grumpiest. Sort of like Oliver Queen.
Lena fills them in on her plan to create synthetic Kryptonite and has them all clean up and fuel up while she makes it. Alex insists on helping her so it’s done quicker and also bans Kara from entering the lab whether she has her new suit on or not because it’s so unstable that she doesn’t want to take any risks with her little sister.
Since the others have been left to their own devices, they decide to try and come up with their own plan to stop the Lexo-suits but there’s not much they can do because they don’t know exactly how Lena is going to merge the kryptonite cores of the robots with the synthetic kryptonite.
Brainy just can’t stand not knowing something so he ends up heading off to the lab to join Lena and Alex so he can help out and get answers to all of his questions, in complete awe of Lena’s handiwork and thrilled that he gets to work with a human that can almost compete with his twelfth-level intellect.
J’onn and Nia end up going and doing what Lena told them to do, taking it in turns using the bathroom to clean themselves up of all of the dust and grime they have been covered with, or in J’onn’s case, oil. He’s gotten himself covered in it because of the way he was tearing the Lexo-suits apart.
Nia goes for a nap too, very fitting of a woman called Dreamer. J’onn doesn’t do that but he does go and meditate afterwards.
Kelly stays with Kara though. They find themselves sitting on a couch just staring ahead into space whilst trying to come up with solutions they know they won’t be able to come up with but try nonetheless.
A whole lot of staring and silence goes by before Kelly flops her head back into the couch cushions and turns it to face Kara. “I really like the new suit by the way.”
“I do too. I don’t know if I’ll use it for day-to-day stuff because it’s very high-tech and well, as cool as it is, my other suit is a bit more casual for everyday usage, or as casual as I can get with a superhero costume anyway, I really love it though, I’ll have to come up with a way to thank Lena for making it for me.”
Kelly snorts. “I can think of a way she’d probably like to be thanked.”
Kara’s head whips around to look at Kelly and she actually gasps at the devilish glint in Kelly’s eyes. She doesn’t often see this side of Kelly and when she does, it’s usually at the same time Alex has her disgustingly dirty mind out to play and she ends up being traumatized right after. This is different. This is Kelly teasing her about Lena, this is new.
“Kelly!” Kara’s mouth is dropped open in shock. “I cannot believe you just said that.”
Kelly just shrugs, “Oh come on, Kara, we both know that with how much you’ve been showing off that suit, the one that Lena made to show off your ass by the way, and you’re totally going to show her how much you appreciate it later on. She is your girlfriend, it’s not like it’s a shock to anyone.”
The last sentence makes her splutter the most and she shakes her head furiously. “She’s not— She’s not my girlfriend. We’re not at that point.”
Kelly snorts again, an undignified sound that rumbles dep from her chest. “believe me, Kara. She is. You might not have made it officially official but you are. You’re exclusively dating each other and eye fucking every moment you can, that’s not even counting the physical aspect of your relationship.”
“Am I being psychoanalysed right now?”
“Nah, I’d charge you if I was doing that. I’m just pointing out that the pair of you are idiots because you’re dating without making it official because you’re too scared of having too much on your plate when really, you’d have the same amount because you are actually together in all but the name of it. You should fix that, she seems to do her best work when she’s happy, just look at the calorie powder she made you and the suit. She has a soft spot for blondes.”
Kara’s cheeks flush but Kelly’s words do make her think. There is definitely some truth to her words and really, it wouldn’t hurt to just have the conversation with Lena once the fight is over and if she’s in a good place afterwards because they are fighting her brother so it’s not exactly the best time to be asking her to be her girlfriends. Or maybe it is. Maybe it is a good thing. She’s not sure but right now is not a good time.
“I’ll think about that. For now, I just want to stare at that wall a little bit longer until my head is blissfully empty.”
“Now that’s a plan I can get behind.” Kelly stops looking at Kara and refocuses her eyes back on the spot she was staring at mere moments ago. “Just don’t think about it for too long, you’ll think yourself in circles and never actually do anything.”
“I never do that.”
“You always do that.”
-
If Lena weren’t so good at what she does, it would be a hard task for her to make the kryptonite. She’s lucky enough to be blessed with the skills it takes for her to be able to create it with ease, almost like she had done it a thousand times before. In fact, the entire time she’s been making it, Alex has been watching her with thinly veiled intrigue because this is the first real time she’s seen Lena in her element like this, working away with quick hands that couldn’t be surer in each action. It’s fascinating to see.
Despite Lena’s speed and expertise, making the kryptonite isn’t as quick as she would like it to be. She’s just barely finishing up now and it’s been two and a half hours. Two and a half hours in which the Lexo-suits have been methodically destroying the city and based on the way masses of them are all swirling around the sky over on this side of town, it won’t be long until the fight is brought to them.
Kara and J’onn have tried to buy them more time by drawing the suits away, flying over to the docks and then doing what J’onn was doing earlier, manually destroying each suit by ripping them apart. Slowly but surely, they get covered in oil just the same way J’onn did earlier and that makes him puff in annoyance since now he’s going to have to shower again to get all of the grime off of him.
It does give Kara an idea though and she started using her freeze breath to try and freeze the oil inside the suits that is essentially lubricant so the Lexo-suits become unable to move and it makes them easier to handle.
The problem she found is that the suits are rigorously temperature controlled, that is unless they take a good whack to the left side of their chests, that must be where the regulator is so they end with J’onn punching and then Kara freezing. When they do this when they’re flying, it stops the suits from moving and flying too so they drop to the ground and essentially destroy themselves.
It’s not something that they can do for every suit, there are simply too many of them, but it’s a great way to buy Lena some time and it works well.
Lena calls them back in once the kryptonite is ready, a plan of action in place so she can get it out into the Lexo-suits, one that includes the pair of them wrangling an arrant Lexo-suit back with them, a bag is thrown over its head. They know it’s risky because they are essentially giving away their location by doing that but this is their best shot and they trust Lena.
Kara is shooed away and J’onn is left to struggle to hold the suit alone, Nia uses her dream energy to help as much as she can when she spots his battle. Lena doesn’t want Kara in the room when she does this, even with her new suit, she just doesn’t want to risk it, so she’s sent off to go and take cover in another room.
With the kryptonite heart exposed so that it can shoot beams of energy at them, destroying a good portion of the room’s décor in the process, Lena simply jams the new kryptonite into the old one, the two moulding together quickly because she has created the new, artificial kryptonite to bond with original kryptonite, making it unstable but also making it become drawn to each other.
This is how it will spread. They will release the infected Lexo-suit out into the streets again and the artificial kryptonite will draw other suits near and infect them too. Within a few pulses of their blasters, the kryptonite will be so unstable that it will blow up and take out any Lexo-suits in the surrounding areas with it. It’s a win-win.
That’s one problem actively dealing with itself now, there’s one very big problem still lurking over the city. One that is a ship with spider legs that is still somehow pumping out new Lexo-suits, probably to replace the ones being destroyed. At least they aren’t coming out in the same influx as they were originally though, that would be a mess, now it’s just a few every now and again. It’s…manageable.
“Kara, it’s best you stay here until the majority of the Lexo-suits have destroyed themselves. We don’t know what that kryptonite could do to you, it was already synthetic and weird before I got my hands on it and changed it up, I didn’t have time to test it so there’s no saying what effects it could have on you. I don’t want you to get hurt.” Lena spouts out, her hands on Kara’s shoulders as she blocks her path to the elevator as though she could actually stop a Kryptonian if she really wanted to.
Thankfully for Lena, Kara stops when she feels the pressure of her hands and stops trying to make her way out so she can join the fight at this stage. Lena is grateful for that because her shoes are nowhere near grippy enough for her to not just go sliding right across the floorboards with Kara’s powerful strides.
“I trust the suit you’ve built me, Lena. I’m sure I’ll be fine.” Kara argues gently, her voice soft. Earnest even. Lena shakes her head. “I built that suit to protect you against pure kryptonite, not whatever weird form of kryptonite I’ve just created. It could affect you for all we know and we don’t know what it could do to you. How it could hurt you or change your psyche or a whole laundry list of other options. You need to stay here for your own sake as well as the team’s sake.”
Kara knows Lena has a point and she really managed to deliver it home with the point about it potentially changing her psyche. Red kryptonite was one of the worst things she’s ever had done to her, not because it caused her physical pain but because it made her hurt the people she cares about the most.
Her shoulders drop and the tension lifts from pretty much every muscle in her body. Lena feels the change beneath her palms and finds herself relaxing too.
“I’m sorry. I know you have a good point; I just can’t stand sitting on the sidelines, not again, I already did that earlier and I wasn’t expecting to be benched again so soon after getting the new suit.”
Lena smiles at her, her hands moving to gently rub from her shoulders down to her biceps soothingly. “I know. I’m sorry to be making you sit it out again but it’s just for a while. I don’t think we’ll have to wait too long anyway because the kryptonite infection is spreading rapidly and the Lexo-suits are being destroyed at an alarming rate really, you will be out there in no time. Until then, you’ll just have to put up with me for a little longer. Think you’ll manage?”
That makes Kara crack a smile. A reluctant one, but still a smile. “I think I can suffer through it.”
“Good.” Lena smiles back at her, all teeth and softness. “Want to come and watch some footage of robots blowing up with me?”
“Sounds like one hell of a date, I’m in.” Kara offers her hand and Lena takes it, pulling her instantly in the right direction.
Kelly sits across the room, her hand curled around her mug of tea and her guardian helmet and shield abandoned next to her feet. She shakes her head at the pair of them. “These absolute idiots.”
The others just keep doing whatever it is they’re doing to prepare for the fight to come, the one where they figure out how to fight an absolute unit of a ship. They’ve seen enough of Kara and Lena together at this point to know that they probably don’t want to know whatever it is they’re talking about because it’s either something they don’t want to hear because it’s traumatizing or it’s something they don’t want to know because it makes them facepalm because they are so oblivious to the ways they are just completely obsessed with each other at this point and yet unwilling to admit it to the other.
They can’t wait to get out of here and get stuck into the fight just to get away from their pining. Well, that and to save the city but tomato, tomato.
Standing side by side, Lena and Kara lean into each other slightly as they watch Lexo-suit after Lexo-suit get blown to smithereens with each blast from their kryptonite hearts, the unstable kryptonite taking much less time than the original synthetic kryptonite before it explodes.
Because they are so grouped together, when one goes, at least three more are taken down with it and in one lucky chain, Kara and Lena find themselves enthralled and grinning as they watch a chain of about two dozen exploding one after the other, the flames filling the sky and the broken pieces left from the robots raining down onto the city like a mechanical rain.
“Well, that’s something.” Kara marvels, the sky clearing faster than she imagined it would.
“It certainly is.” Lena agrees. “And I think that we should start planning to take down the ship because it won’t be long before we are set to head outside.”
Kara nods happily, glad that she won’t have to wait long before being able to join in the flight. J’onn, Brainy and Nia have already started out towards the ship, scouting it from both the ground and the air whilst being very careful to not get caught up in any of the blasts.
“So, have you figured out where we can get inside the ship?” Kara asks Lena when the woman leaves her side to go and survey the board where the drawings of the ship are hung.
Lena’s eyes flick over the drawings, her brain going back and forth because she just can’t decide, Lex is a smart guy. She’s smarter but she’s smart enough to know that at some point in every smart guy’s life, he has a genius idea so she can’t just assume that she knows best.
The part of the ship that she assumes is just a dud filtration system makes her panic a little because while she has a strong feeling they are just that, dud, she can’t help but get a strong feeling in her gut that just maybe, it’s not and it’s made to look that way and the ‘real’ filtration system is actually the dud. Either way, they have to aim for them to get inside.
“No, I need to see if for myself to know.”
Kara’s head shoots up. “You mean in person?”
Lena groans. “Unfortunately. Would you mind flying me over there so I can take a closer look? After that, I will happily come back and take cover and let you people do what you do best and kick ass, I don’t want any part in that nonsense.”
“It’ll be really dangerous.” Kara simply replies, her eyebrows pulled together in concern. “You could get really hurt out there and who knows what your brother would do to you if he knew you were out there?”
Lena shrugs. “I know. I would rather not go out there either but I can’t know for sure what is happening without being able to see it with my own two eyes.”
Kara turns away from her and for a second, Lena thinks she’s going to refuse to take her and waste time they don’t have to argue with her and come up with another plan but she sees Kara’s shoulders sag and her head tip forward. When she turns back around towards her, the bridge of her nose is pinched between a finger and a thumb.
“Ok. I’ll take you but first, I’ll go and get the spare body armour we have from storage. If you’re going out there, you’re being as protected as we can get you and I’ll grab Dreamer too on the way so she can create a shield around you guys should the need arise.”
Lena’s eyes twinkle in delight. “Sounds awesome.”
She really wasn’t expecting Kara to go along with it but a little childlike part of herself is thrilled that she’s about to go and fight with superheroes, even if she’s not doing the fighting. She’s not particularly excited to be in danger but knowing that Kara and Nia will have her back along with the rest of the team, that eases her mind greatly and she just knows that she’s not just going to remember this day for the terrible destruction that has occurred and probably still will occur.
It’s going to take a long time for the city to recover from the damage, both physically and mentally, but they’ll get there. She knows they will because looking around at Kara and then at Kelly and Alex across the room, she knows these people are the best in the city and with them in the corner of National City, they can only thrive.
Lena’s eyes meet the sharp blue of Kara’s. “Alright, you get the armour, I’ll make a plan. Let’s get ready to take Lex’s ship of horrors.”

Imagine if Red K!Kara had a power suit. Looks like the Anti-Kryptonite suit, but instead it empowers her with Red Kryptonite and the mask is like Bane's mask that injects her with Red Kryptonite

Anti-Wage-Theft Laws Are Kryptonite to Dishonest Bosses | The results are in on Denver’s pioneering anti-wage-theft law, which has already helped thousands of workers recover millions of dollars in stolen wages. Cities across America should follow suit and stop thieving employers in their tracks.

Round 1 poll 14: Lena Luthor from Supergirl vs Silence from Arknights
Entry propagnda:
Lena Luthor
I'm in love with her and she's canonically a genius and her family issues lead her to make terrible mad scientist decisions
Katie McGrath
She’s a genius scientist! She’s a hacker! She’s an engineer! Not only has she repurposed her brother Lex’s inventions for good, she’s also successfully created synthetic kryptonite (something even Lex couldn’t do) AND created multiple iterations of an anti-kryptonite suit for Supergirl. Speaking of which, it may not be canon, but she’s so gay for Kara Danvers aka Supergirl! The lip bite in season 2 episode 5 when she invites Kara to the gala! Their little lunch dates! Filling Kara’s office with flowers after she proved Lena was innocent of breaking her mother and Metallo out of prison! The anti-kryptonite suits! And then she found out Kara was Supergirl and took a turn into mad scientist territory because she felt so hurt and betrayed, inventing mind control technology in an attempt to forcibly stop all lies and violence on Earth. Eventually, however, she realizes her plan will just hurt even more people, and risks her own life to save Kara’s, before spending the rest of the show working with her.
Silence
Incredibly divorced from her dilf wife

Howdy folks,
I’m trying to find a Supercorp fic that I read forever ago.
I can’t remember everything that happens but I know it’s set in early season 4, with Kara trapped in the anti-kryptonite suite and Lena’s at the deo working on getting rid of the kryptonite in the air.
Kara panics due to the screen being black and claustrophobia so Lena connects it to like an educational childrens game from L-Corp- I think it’s like the player is in a human heart and has to destroy viruses or something.
Anyways Lena ends up figuring out Kara is Supergirl based on her reactions whilst playing the game.
That’s all I remember, any help is much appreciated! :)

prime earth confusing canon: the graves siblings didn't release kryptonite in the air, so lena didn't use the nanobots to clear the air and only create the anti-krptonite suit till end of s5. lena used the nanobots to track kara's dna in s6 so meaning she did acquire spheers industries and most likely jack is dead.
Aha! Thank you. So her connection to Jack *sob* and his company stays the same in either timeline.

All of Bruce's anti-kryptonian schemes involve kryptonite or red sun energy. Kara was the brightest scientific mind of krypton, and in almost every continuity there has been anti-kryptonite armor.
If they don't have prep time she blitzes him before he can react, and if there is prep time, Kara is going to arrive in a suit of anti-kryptonite power armor the likes of which we've never seen because she’s going up against the Bat and she knows his reputation and would go overkill.
There is no way that batman is winning this fight.
Batman VS Everyone
If Batman gets prep time, so does everyone else
