URGENT: 4yo Little Girl and Her Family Malnutritioned and Freezing!! (Sham and Moneer al-Anqar -- Skills Series: "Easy Piece First")
Reblog if u answer pls tysm!đ©·
There's no shame in that! In this series, I'll be sharing some tips to help us keep going strong, carrying these families throughout this brutal winter of extermination. With each post I'll be highlighting a family in desperate need.
Easy Piece First
Whether we're working at a job, making commissions, working on posts, or doing other tasks, mutual aid for genocide relief can be overwhelming. The stakes are through the roof, and sometimes the people who most want to help are the people least able to. Often I freeze in place, overwhelmed with emotion, unsure of where to start. Depression, anxiety, and AuDHD don't help!
So I hope this skill is of use to you. I call it "Easy Piece First" because that's what helps me remember it, but it's definitely not a new idea.
I started this post with the easiest small step accessible. For me, that was writing down Moneer's current blog tag (@sham-moner) in a new post. This was the easiest for me because it required no decision-making and could be done in a few seconds. Then I filled in the other parts that don't take much thought -- the GoFundMe link, the vetting, and some tags.
For other posts, sometimes I'll be making art that is unrelated and then I'll think of a post to go with it.
Lazy and Heartless, or Focused and Strategic?
Everyone is different, but trying to force yourself to start with the hardest part first (what some people call the "Eat That Frog" approach) can actually make things take longer for some people. Using "Easy Piece First," I was able to get more done with my time, and with less trouble. This makes my efforts more sustainable long-term.
On a related note, I actually take a lot of measures to not walk around with my chest constantly hurting for Palestinians anymore (though there's nothing wrong with doing so). My chest was aching at all times for months until I converted some of my worry into action and some of it into self-care -- so I could actually get more done for Palestinians, who do not need my tears but my labor.
This winter is a marathon, and we gotta see it through to the end.
Take care of yourself so you can get more done and keep helping people long-term.
Do not give yourself a heart condition.
Give Palestinians labor.
That's how I'm keeping myself out of the hospital and maximizing what I can do for people, but we all have our own strategies.
But that's enough about us -- let's talk about these two amazing kids.
Moneer and Sham
Palestinians are just regular people. That's the horrible reality. It's the exact same as if people from your own background, even your own family were getting tortured and killed.
Like, Moneer is a 19yo who had recently started university when the genocide began. Sham is 4, Mohammed is 16, Rana is 21, and Rasha is 22.
What were you going through when you were 4? How would you have felt if you saw people getting blown up at that age? What if your house was blown up and all your toys and friends were lost, and you had to live outside in the winter, scrounging for moldy bread and polluted water?
What if you lived with the smell of rotting bodies when you were 4? Did you know what that smelled like as a little kid? I still don't know what that smells like. I didn't really know what death was at that age. She does.
This small child is in critical need of food and water!!
She is starving!!
Sham will die this winter without more donations!!
This is a call to action for an extremely urgent campaign!!!
It's been 2 days, and it was 2 days before that! This is far too long!!
Moneer is still recovering from major surgery. He is in a lot of pain and is also malnutritioned and in need of clean water and warmth.
Moneer is very close to his family and dearly loves his mom, Amani (39). Amani is in a lot of danger because she has asthma in a dusty massacre zone without treatment. It's killing Moneer to watch his mom go through this.
Drink some water, take a rest, and keep putting one foot in front of the other, using whatever tools work for you.
We are not letting these kids and their family die this winter!! We can do this!!

"I didnât know whether to laugh or scream."
Siege and Storm- Chapter 15
Oh nein! Mal has issues! With consequences of his actions he should be grateful for, and his girl not sharing every waking thought with him, when her worst worries spring from his most hated topics- the Darkling and her role in politics.
And Alina once again feels responsible for his feelings.
Yeah, this would have a bit more weight, if Alina didn't do it only for appearances' sake. Or if she granted the position due to merit, not random pick of what she views as the lowest low. Or if she didn't continue speaking as if she were a narrator of wildlife documentary, describing a new species of animal that just appeared.
Not necessarily, but it's one of Alina's less far-fetched deductions.
Aleksander could've been aware of David's fascination with Morozova's work. He could've picked the most skilled in bonework or the one most experienced in forging amplifiers- they're supposed to be rare, so not many Fabricators will have that.
*mumbles* And somehow we're to believe this pragmatic man chose to follow Alina, because... ? She's the good one, or whatever?!
*chants* Double agent Kaminsky, double agent Kaminsky!
Alina: Why would you want to kill this man! How horrible! At least question him first!
She would make a delightful morally flexible character, if she were acknowledged as such, and embracing that quality.
Says who? Zoya?
He KeEpS mE So BuSy!
Saints, Alina, you can't believe everything people say about themselves!
Alina: I'm not sure my three months of training are enough, but I can do like two things with my powers, so let's focus on increasing them further AND on the mythical forbidden art that created my goal no. 1 in the first place. I bet nothing can go wrong...
Only signing? Not reading to get into picture? And who prepares them?!
Bureaucracy, baby!
Welcome to responsibility!
I would sympathize with Alina much more, if she showed genuine interest in those she doesn't know. If her motivation weren't merely "Do the opposite of (what I think) the Darkling did". I she truly believed in her own philosophy.
Shocking!
People forced to sit next to half-strangers they're not used to interact with, create unpleasant atmosphere!
My work experience considered- you're lucky there's no visible enmity- you could've made the wrong people sit next to each other and tableware could've ended up in wrong bodyparts.
Also: How is Nadia sitting next to Marie? I thought breaking up already existing friend groups was a point of this whole exercise.
They're not gifts, Nikolai. They're just your father's property, but let's remember the Darkling didn't wait for the Queen to request a specific one's service, and turned it into a gesture of his own thoughtfulness. Fuck his strategems!
Alina's misplaced sensibilities are incredibly frustrating.
She wants to lead Second Army, but not order them, not assign them tasks directly, because that would somehow make her a bad person, instead of efficient leader.
What if no one will volunteer? What if weak, incompetent Squallers will? You don't look at special assignment and think- Yeah, whoever wants to do it... You PICK the most capable person with both sufficient skills AND suitable personality.
Awwww!
Poor granny deserves an Oscar!

Info!
Hey! I'm Vance, a transmasc guy who likes to draw and listen to music. I use he/him pronouns. I AM A MINOR! I'm 13, so I'm allowed to be on here, but I'm still young and kinda stupid. I don't interact with stuff 18+ because I'm savouring my childhood innocence before it gets shipwrecked through health class this year ^^. If you're accounts a minor dni account but a normal post, like fanart that's not dirty, if yours shows up on my for you and I interact with it, I probably didn't click into your account and see that, so don't block me or do block me, idc, just don't yell at me or smth. Idk, anyways- this is just some info about my account and what I plan to do here. Sorry if my grammar is bad, I'm a reader, not a writer. I also type very fast.
As a little summary if you don't want to read all this,
I draw (horribly), listen to music religiously, talk about my opinions on things and my hyperfixations. I'm currently pretty into Rick and Morty, Gravity Falls, and RTC.
Now for the essay of details. Yay!
I mainly draw my hyperfixations, which I'll talk about next. I only draw people because I suck at drawing animals and objects. I'm still learning since I literally just picked up drawing again after not drawing since I was 10-ish. I can't really draw anatomy and hair is so complicated! I try though, and if you have any art tips, please share! They all help! I mainly do traditional since my tablet is small and I have little to no experience with digital art. I've been trying to save up for a drawing table but money's tight :<
Ah yes, my hyperfixations. I'm in quite a lot of fandoms, so here's a list of the main one's that I'm into right now,
Rick and Morty
The Outsiders
Bully SE (yes, I know it's a video game from 2008, I don't care, it's fun to play)
South Park
Heartstopper
Astronomy (yes, I count astronomy as a fandom, sue me)
Good Omens
RTC (Ride The Cyclone)
And many more! I take requests for these fandoms.
I'm heavily indulged in music, and I'm not exaggerating, I have a 60+ hour playlist. Speaking of which, is on Spotify and is called, A Transmasc Guy's Favorite Songs đ«. It has a Crowley meme as the cover. Very funny. If you're interested in finding new music or playlists that can go from Hozier to Ghost to David Bowie, then this is your playlist! Just a warning though, I've had this playlist since I was 11, so some songs might get outdated. I'm too lazy to go through it and remove songs. Maybe one day I will. I welcome music requests with open arms! I love finding new music. Also, French music is soooo good.
Link: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5vH1LV9iBSPWgoe9sOxSMs?si=UuVuFMwmSkeqlx-5fp1a-A
Last, but certainly not least, is questions and requests! I'm open to asking questions about myself and opinions on fandoms, music, games, stuff like that! Please don't ask anything political or be rude (transphobic, homophobic, racist, etc.). For requests, I accept art and music requests! As I stated under fandoms, I draw my hyperfixations listed, but I draw others aswell, depending on the fandom. Feel free to leave a request for any fandom and I'll do it if I can. Requests might be slow, but I promise I'll get to it! You can also state if you just want line art, a colouring, shoulders and up, full body (might take a long while) and if you want traditional or digital! Just a heads up if you do, my drawing skills aren't the best, especially with anatomy and hair, so be aware. I also have limited colouring supplies for traditional and ability for digital, but I'll try my hardest!
And remember, I am a MINOR.
Thank you for reading all this and if you're interested, then follow, if you'd like of course. I know basically no one is going to see this, but for those who do, I hope you stick around. Obviously just don't be rude it disrespectful. Have a lovely day! - Vance, aka StarmanGeek

Iâm devouring your fics on ao3 and⊠idk how I have lived without reading ânice to meet you, where have you been?â
the whole fic is complete perfection!!! đ„șđ
I was twirling my hair and kicking my feet the whole time while reading it!!! giggling like a high schooler!!!!!! đ„șđ„ș iâm such a sucker for fluffy stories and your work is honestly my favorite of all iâve ever read!!! if you have any more ideas you didnât write out for this world Iâd love to hear it đ„șđ„șđ„ș
feeling like a little goblin just reading every work you published there!!
Iâm also so happy I found your blog so that I can share with you how lovely your work is!!! the whole story is a fluff fest but you still put little things that add to the underlying struggles that eddie and steve have faced in their life without overshadowing the fluff and it makes the world build so so so incredible!!! if you ever decide to make a patreon or anything similar you can bet Iâll be there to support you!!!
I have a big passion for writing and seeing someone so sweet and nice with such amazing writing skills makes me want to support your work anyway i can!!! just idk if this is just a hobby but if you ever do decided to make it more than that Iâll be your #1 fan!!! đđđ
if flowercrowngods has 1000 fans, Iâm one of them!
if flowercrowngods has 10 fans, Iâm on of them!
if flowercrowngods has 0 fans, Iâm dead!
(you know the meme? hehe)
much love đđ
iâm horribly embarrassingly late to answering this but i just wanted to hold on to this a little longer.
i love that you really really liked my lil tattoo shop au, i think itâs the fluffiest thing iâve ever written for this fandom? because itâs like unadulterated joy, very little heaviness woven into it đ„č
i donât actually think i have more for it? just that chrissy has this bakery and steddie almost had their morning after date there. eddieâs gonna introduce them, though, because the second he meets robin he thinks âwow i think you can be the love of my platonic soulmate, i need you guys to meetâ. buckingham is a no-brainer for me.
robin also draws the most obscure tattoos and dares steve to tattoo them â either on himself or on costumers he deems worthy. the binder, remember? Upside Down tattoos, etc. she makes steve draw on her skin, too, because sheâs afraid of needles still but loves his art, and they spend some of their nights like that, with music on and just drawing on each other.
i also love that you found my blog :D and i love even more that i found yours first, way back when đ€ the thing about you asking if i have a patreon or just claiming that youâd support me there has taken me out for real, i swear. thatâs. thatâs so đ„ș unbelievable idk, i canât put it in words; what that means to hear someone say this 𫶠especially because like. this ainât my first language. so really all the compliments etc just feel so much more special for it đ„șđ€
anyway iâll stop gushing now, iâm just really really touched. thank you thank you thank you đ„ș iâm so glad youâve been enjoying my words so far, the happy and the sad ones đ·
#i love thinking about the tattoo shop au. itâs just a little bit unhinged. and steve has wings :D#and everything is tinged in golden light even in my thoughts about it so thatâs just a kinda safety this story exudes to me#((even if it always makes me miss the person i wrote this for))#nice people being nice to me#bitchysunflower#đ€#fav

Happy back-to-school yâall
Iâve attended and worked at a couple of super liberal universities. I avoid the gender studies departments for obvious reasons and I still had a lecture in which the female prof gave a brief overview of TERFs and proclaimed her hatred of JKR. Being openly critical of gender ideology, the porn industry, kinks, and âsex workâ are the kind of things that can ruin your future in academia. Not to mention the fact that any speech or actions that could be labelled transphobic (ie. defining woman as adult human female) can get you a suspension according to many universities anti-hate-speech policies.Â
So, hereâs a list of small and smallish (small in terms of overt TERFery, some may require more effort than others) radical feminist actions you can take as a university student:
(this is a liberal arts perspective so if youâre a stem gal this may not apply. but also if youâre in stem maybe you can actually acknowledge that women are oppressed as a sex class without getting kicked out of school. idk)
(Note for TRAs hate reading this: One of the core actions of radical feminism is creating female networks. This is not so that we can brainwash people into being anti-trans. This is because female solidarity is necessary for creating class consciousness and overturning patriarchy. It is harder to subjugate the female sex when we stand together.)
Take classes with female profs. Multiple sections of a class? Pick the one taught by a woman. Have to chose an elective? Only look at electives offered by women. When classes have low numbers they get cancelled. When classes are super popular, universities are forced to consider promoting the faculty that teach them
Make relationships with these female profs. Go to office hours. Chat after class. Ask them about their research. Building female networks is sooooo important!
Actually fill in your end of year course feedback forms. Profs often need these when applying for tenure or applying for a job at another university so it is very important (especially with young and/or new profs) that you fill out these forms and give specific examples of how great these women are. Go off about what you love about them! Give her a brilliant review because you know the idiot boy in that class who wonât shut up even though he knows nothing is going to give her only negative feedback because he thinks any woman who leaves the house is a feminazi b*tch.Â
(note: obviously donât go praising any prof - female or male - who is blatantly racist, homophobic, etc.)
(Also if you have shitty male profs write down all the horrible things they have done and said and put it in these forms because once a shitty man gets tenure they are virtually untouchable)
(also also, leave a good review on rate my profs or whatever other thing students use to figure out if they want to take classes. idc if you copy paste your feedback from the formal review. rave about the class to your friends. do what you can to get good enrolment for that prof for reasons above.)
Participate in class. Talk over the male students. Say what you mean and mean it. Call out the boys when they say dumb shit
Write about women. If you have the option to make a text written by a woman your primary text in an essay, do it. Pick the female-centred option if youâre writing an exam-essay with multiple prompts. (Profs often look at what works on their syllabus are being written about/engaged with as a marker of whether to keep those texts the next time they teach the class. If there are badass women on your syllabus, write about them to keep them on the syllabus) Use female-written secondary sources whenever possible.Â
(pro tip: many women in academia are more than happy to talk to you about their papers. expand your female networks by reaching out to article authors through email and asking them about their cool shit)
Get your essays published! Many departments have undergrad journals you can publish in. This will ensure more people read about the women you write about and will demonstrate to the department that people like learning about women
Consider trying to publish your undergrad essay with a legit peer-reviewed journal. If you can do it, your use of female-written secondary sources boosts the reputations of the women who wrote those secondary sources. Also this helps generally to increase scholarship about womenâs writing!
Present your papers at conferences! Many schools have their own undergraduate/departmental conferences that you can present at. Push yourself by submitting to outside conferences. Bring attention to womenâs works by presenting your papers. Take a space at a conference that would otherwise be reserved for mediocre men
Talk to your profs and/or your department and/or your university about mandating the inclusion of female works in classes if this isnât something they do already
Sit next to other women in your classes. Talk to them. Make friends. Form study groups. Proofread each otherâs essays. Give each other knowing looks when the boys are being dumb. Just interact with other women! Build those female networks!
Be generous with your compliments. A female classmate and I were talking to a prof after class and the classmate told me (out of the blue) that I always have such interesting things to say. I think about that whenever Iâm lacking confidence about my academic skills. Compliment the women in your classes for speaking up, for sharing their opinions, for challenging your classmates/profs, for doing cool presentations, etc.
Talk to other women about sexist things going on on campus. Make everyone aware of the sexist profs. Complain about how there are many more tenured men than tenured women. Go on rate my professor and be explicit about how the sexist profs are sexist
Be active on campus and in societies. If a society has an all male executive or is male-dominated, any women who join that society make it less intimidating for more women to join. Run for executive positions! Bring in more women!Â
(Pro tip: Many societiesâ elections are super gameable. You can be eligible to vote in a society election sometimes just by being a student at that university â even without having done anything with the society before. Other societies might just require that youâve taken a class in a particular department or attended a society event. (Check the societyâs governing documents.) Use those female networks youâve been building. If you can bring three or four random people to vote for you, that might be enough for you to win. Societies have trouble meeting quorum (the minimum number of people in attendance to do votes) so it is really super achievable to rig an election with a few friends. And donât feel bad about this. The system is rigged against women so you have every right to exploit loopholes!)
(Also feel free to go vote ânon-confidenceâ/âre-open electionâ if only shitty men are running. Too often people see that only candidates they donât like are running and so they give up. But you can actually stop them getting elected)
Your campus may have a LGBTQIA+alphabetsoup society. That society definitely needs more L and B women representation. It may be tedious to argue with the nb straight dudes who insist that itâs fine to use âq***râ in the societyâs posters and that attraction has nothing to do with genitals, but just imagine what could happen if we could make these sorts of societies actually safe spaces for same-sex attracted women and advocated for our concerns
Attend random societiesâ election meetings. Get women elected and peace out. (or actually get involved but Iâm trying to emphasize the lowest commitment option with this one)
Write for the campus newspaper. Write about what women are doing - womenâs sports, cool society activities, whatever. Review female movies, books, tv shows, local theatre productions. Write about sexism on campus. We need more female by-lines and more stories about women
Get involved with your campusâs sexual assault & r*pe hotline/sexual assault survivorâs centre/whatever similar organization your campus has if you can. This is hard work and definitely not for everyone (pls take care of yourself first, especially if you are a survivor)
(If your campus doesnât have an organization for supporting survivorâs of sexualized violence, start one! This is probably going to be a lot of hard work though, so donât do it alone)
Talk to your student council about providing free menstrual hygiene products on campus if your campus doesnât already do this. If your campus provides free condoms (which they probs do), use that as leverage (ie. âsex is optional, menstruation is not. so why do we have free condoms and no free pads?â)
If youâre an older student, get involved with younger students (orientation week and such activities are good for this). Show the freshman that you can be a successful and well-liked woman without shaving your legs, wearing heels, wearing make-up, etc. Mentor these young women. Offer to go for coffee or proofread essays.Â
Come to class looking like a human being. Be visibly make-up less, unshaven, unfeminine, etc. to show off the many different ways of being a woman
Talk to the custodial staff and learn their names. (I know there are men who work in this profession, but it is dominated by low-income women) Say hi in the hallways, ask them about their lives, show them theyâre appreciated
Be explicit with your language. When you are talking about sex-based oppression, say it. Donât say âsex workerâ when you mean survivor of human trafficking. This tip is obviously a bit tricky in terms of overt TERFyness, so use your best judgement
Thatâs all from me for now! Feel free to add your suggestions and remember that feminism is about action

Presenting my revised redesign for Griffin the invisible man from Hotel Transylvania!
As I'm starting to get into the Halloween spirit, even though it's the end of August, I felt like revising my version of Grif. There's not too many differences from the version I posted in January. but I just wanted to share the ideas I developed in the months since and flex my improving digital art skills (I now have a Huion tablet so it's a lot easier!) As I did before, I tried to retain the art style from the movies. I also clearly am not the best at drawing slightly crusty middle aged dudes but I tried. I thought it would make sense and also be funny if his hair got really long over the course of the movies and came down to the middle of his back or longer by the time the fourth movie rolled around. I feel like he'd be the kind of guy who grows his hair out just because he likes it that way, and also, being invisible, he'd most likely forget to cut it or not worry about getting regular haircuts. I did consider putting a few gray streaks in there, but I'm leaving it as is for now. My version also has invisible clothes that he was able to make using his invisible serum - here's my reply on someone else's post where I go more into detail about this.
For all those coming at me and saying I'm fat shaming, being superficial, etc. because I drew him as a slimmer and more attractive man, hear me out:
I was honestly expecting a dude who physically looks like he's middle aged and past his prime - he's voiced by David Spade FFS, who is nearly 60 now - and I wouldn't have minded if he were balding or graying or a little out of shape. But what we got was not only absolutely painful to look at and anti-Semitic, at least according to some people, it completely disregarded all the hints that were dropped about Griffin's physical appearance and outline in the first three movies - TRUST ME, THEY'RE THERE. It's like the writers and character design didn't even watch the previous movies, and it was obvious enough due to the fact that they Drac and Johnny learn to appreciate each other all over again instead of further developing their relationship. Regarding Griffin, there were several instances in the first three movies where the outline of his body was hinted at, whether he was wearing visible clothes or wrapped in glowsticks, and ALL of them portray him as a slender man of average build and average height. There's also some promotional material for the first movie where he's wearing clothes and we can clearly see that he has a slimmer figure. We also saw that he has a jaw and neck, and even saw a partial outline of his head and face in HT3. NONE OF THIS lines up with what we got in HT4.
I have absolutely nothing against body representation in the media. In fact, I am ALL FOR IT. But if the HT crew wanted Griffin to be fat, they should have established that from the beginning. They just went ahead and completely changed his entire body, both his size and his height, just for cheap laughs and shock value. I should also say that Griffin's larger body in HT4 was NEGATIVE representation. They had him dressed in these horribly undersized clothes, including a shirt that looks like it was made for a little girl, for the bulk of the movie, and didn't even have him in proper clothing ONCE. Also, it all seemed to connotate that fat was equal to ugly. It all just felt extremely mean-spirited. Oh and did I not mention that he was much taller here too! He towered over Wayne, Murray, Drac, practically the whole gang, and he was just a head shorter than Frank if I remember correctly. AND it made NO SENSE that he didn't know he was balding!! He has hands, it's not like he couldn't have touched his head every once in a while! OH, and his torso was way longer and he had these little stick arms and legs! You know what, I'm just going to have to make a drawing comparing what he was supposed to look like and what he looked like in HT4 just to make it clearer.
But yeah, they messed him up badly, just for the sake of unfunny jokes, and he. deserved. so. much. better.
I'm hoping to tackle the other three guys (Murray, Wayne, and Frank) soon! ESPECIALLY Murray, because they did him just as dirty as Griffin.

I haven't played TGAA, but I find the double standard in the way Barok is treated vs the way Miles, Fran and the rest of them are treated kind of strange. Barok is supposedly insufferable, plus he's racist and xenophobic. I ain't excusing that, but that's just how 19th century England was.
Miles and Fran have most likely sent innocent people to jail or even landed them the death penalty, simply because they cared more about securing a guilty verdict than actual justice. Godot is a literal murderer, and I've heard some unpleasant things about Simon and Nahyuta as well.
Yet, all (or most of) these characters are redeemed. Barok's biggest crime is...upholding the views of everyone else at the time. And that somehow makes him irredeemable, despite him actually warming up to Ryonosuke later. I'm not saying everyone should like Barok, but if Barok is irredeemable, so is every other prosecutor in AA.
This has been pretty much my point ever since they announced GAA's localization.
Barok is obnoxious, that is undeniable. Nipponese this, Eastern island that, his mocking of Ryuu easily crosses a line that leaves the player uncomfortable, as it should, because if his xenophobia doesn't bother you it says more about you than about the game.
But. Being obnoxious is all he does.
He does not present forged evidence, or use loopholes in court, or coach witnesses, like Edgeworth and Franziska used to do.
He's never ever physically violent against the defense, unlike Franziska, Godot, Simon or Nahyuta - he breaks his own glasses and bottles when frustrated, but he never harms anyone. (it says something that the entire series so far had only three prosecutors who are decent human beings)
His objective as a prosecutor is simply to find the truth. While he pushes very hard to prove the guilt of the defendant, it's clear that it's because he genuinely believes in his case - once Ryuu manages to convince him his theory makes sense, Barok drops most of his hostility and helps him. Unlike Edgeworth pre-heel face turn and Franziska, he couldn't care less about his own record, which means that he never deliberately gambled with the lives of potentially innocent people for his own ego. He is biased towards Ryuu, not only because he's Japanese but also because Barok admits to personally taking his cases even if they're banal, but he's not completely driven by a petty grudge like Godot - like I said, he'll help Ryuu win if he does a good enough job in his book, no matter his personal feelings towards his learned Japanese friend.
Both he and Edgeworth post-heel face turn share the same goal of finding the truth. However, Edgeworth has hurt at least one person in his quest, infamously Adrian Andrews when he threatened to reveal her mental illness in court and even said "if you kill yourself, that is no concern of mine". Compare this with Barok, who has shown himself capable of kindness as soon as his second appearance, when he (spoilers for Case 4 of GAA) subtly implied he would allow Roly Beate to keep his job despite tampering with the crime scene, because he could empathize with the poor man wanting to spend one day with his wife.
He's genuinely competent in his job, relying simply on cold hard logic to dismantle the defense's arguments as a good prosecutor should - to be honest, it may be the different writers, but Klavier, Simon and Nahyuta never struck me as being especially good at their job, with Klavier having to deal with a rather incompetent Apollo in AJ and Simon and Nayhuta happily abusing the old "attacking the defense" and "asking evidence for every word you say" tricks. (to be fair Simon gets to demonstrate his interesting manipulative skills in one case... Turnabout Storyteller, when he's Athena's ally. Also, I can't remember anything particularly horrible he does beyond being an ass like usual, in fact he may be the best prosecutor of the second trilogy)
Speaking of Nahyuta, the reasons I can't stand him while I love Barok are that Nahyuta is nothing but repetitive, unwitty, painfully realistic obnoxiousness propped up by a shallow twist revealed at the tail-end of the game; he has no real character development, because "sowwy guys i was good all along" is not development; he prosecutes simply to win even if it means insisting that a young girl committed murder in spite of the defense's reasonable arguments; there is no in-game justification for shit like him tormenting Athena in Japanifornia, or even him being an asshole in Japanifornia at all; and there's no weight in the realization that he let hundreds of innocent people being sentenced to death while he stood aside to protect his sister (like, that has got to mess you up a bit right? Can you show me that, game?). Barok not only has a much more fleshed out, drawn out backstory that explains most of his behavior (although I have my reservations at tying his racism to One Trauma); not only he slowly (... very slowly) warms up to Ryuu; not only he has humanizing traits like feeling horrible about being branded the Reaper of the Old Bailey, like it would happen to anyone being rumored to be a death bringer; but he is, most important of all, an overdramatic bitch and the contrast between his intimidating demeanor and the shit he pulls behind the bench is infinitely more hilarious than being told for the umpteenth time that you're a putrid lawyer who's going to hell. It doesn't sound like much, but a good AA game masters the art of "love to hate".
You know how Klavier is a base-breaking prosecutor because some consider him too nice? Barok is what happens when you take Klavier's honest, well-meaning demeanor and give him enough presence to be hated and loved at the same time. I completely understand if people find him too annoying (he's testing my own patience lmao), but I still think he is one of the best prosecutors in the series, both as a job and as the role of the rival.

hi yes hello i would like to hear you talk about the parallels between Alfyn and Darius please
O_O I never expected an ask like this, so it kind of sucker punched me and I'm in shock. I was expecting anon hate or something because that's what usually happens when I get asks out of the blue. Thank you anon you're so sweet!
Warning: Possible Spoilers
Okay, so first off, the best part: A lot of this has a decent chance of being entirely intentional because of how Octopath handles its storytelling, which I'll get to later.
Also, getting the most obvious parallel out of the way: They both wear green. Which seems silly and like a coincidence, but when you look at the other stuff it becomes suspiciousTM.
The biggest thing, obviously, is their personalities and relationship to Therion. Even if you don't believe Therion's relationship with either is shippy and are entirely platonic, Therion is still a key component of why they parallel. (Speaking of, Therion also parallels Miguel a little bit, which is some minor evidence to why this whole thing was intentional)
Darius doesn't trust anyone, he's shady, he's dishonest, disloyal, and he threw Therion off a cliff after acting like they were brothers for years. Anytime Darius opens his mouth and seems friendly, he's just trying to use that person. When they're no longer useful, or something better comes along, he throws people away. He's greedy to the 10th power and beyond.
Alfyn though? He doesn't have a dishonest bone in his body. Anytime someone mentions that he could get more by taking advantage, or hell, even just doing the bare minimum and making all his patients pay him, he just goes "but why tho" like this is some foreign concept to him. Even the customers he does charge (which he does occasionally, when they're not poor), he still undercharges them. He attaches himself to people like the most clingy of puppies and people happily accept him with open arms. That's how his 'inquire' skill works. Even having Therion tell Alfyn during his chap 1 all about his plans to rob Ravus is justified, because Alfyn can inquire shady criminals too! Cyrus' works kinda like he's being sneaky with his questions and interrogating people into spilling the beans, but Alfyn's is literally just 'I'm nice and lovable, answer all my questions'. Alfyn's 'worst' behavior was just pricking Venessa with slumber thorn and giving her horrible guilt induced nightmares, which is just mildly mischievous compared to her crime of knowingly almost murdering several people including children, or Darius' crime of getting close to Therion (for years!) only to throw him off a cliff for money.
Also, here is the thing: Most of the travelers have dialogue in their travel banters with Therion that denounce his life as a thief in some way. The ones who don't are A) Primrose, who is out to murder some fuckers and would be a hypocrite, and B) Alfyn. He's wholesome and supportive to Therion in every damn banter. He tells Therion he has his back in both Therion's chap 3 and 4 banters. Unlike Darius, he means it. Even in Therion's chapter 2, Alfyn is impressed by Therion and trying to crack into that prickly, chestnut like exterior, not denouncing his occupation (and in chap 3 Alfyn says Therion/Therion's job has a time and place in the world too, while Darius told Therion he wasn't useful and was meant to be thrown away)
Now we get into how I know all of this shit is likely entirely intentional: Octopath puts passive character behavior into fucking everything. Have Olberic challenge most of the people in his starting town, and instead of reacting in terror or being confused, they know who Olberic is and most are like "sure dude let's tussle". Cyrus believes knowledge is to be shared. His special ability has him figure out an enemies weakness because he's such a smarty, and what does he do? He immediately shares this knowledge with the party.
So what does that have to do with Darius and Alfyn? Easy, Darius' weaknesses as a boss. Darius is weak to both Axes and Ice, the things Alfyn can use without subclassing. Sure, Cyrus can use ice and H'aanit can use axes, but neither have both unless they subclass.
But we're not done with that yet! Because his OTHER weaknesses are spears and wind. Tressa's natural abilities. The other natural parallel to thieves are merchants (so Tressa parallels both Therion and Darius). Why choose Alfyn's natural weakness exploits if Tressa was the only parallel? Because Alfyn is a parallel too! To Darius specifically. Alfyn has been supporting Therion this whole time, being exactly the kind of honest and loyal person Therion needs after being betrayed. You think it was Cordelia and Heathcote doing that? Fuck no, they interacted like 6 times tops for 5 minutes his entire story. It was Alfyn and the other travelers who defrosted Therion, and Alfyn being a natural counter to Darius in the boss fight, plus all this other shit, tells me Alfyn had a lot to do with it. If they just wanted you to bring a healer, they could have had Darius be weak to staves and/or light too, but no, they picked both weakness exploits of the healer who already has parallels him. You're meant to bring Alfyn.
They also get paired up often in outside material. They're together as a spirit in smash bros, white day had Therion comforting Alfyn, there is an entire novel with side stories that group up the travelers into 2s, and Alfyn and Therion are their own group, in a chapter titled 'trust and betrayal' with an illustration to boot, and there is a group art where Alfyn has his arm around Therion and Therion seems to passively accept this rather than being angry or trying to shove him off. Outside material stresses their bond with each other, and the other person Therion was shown to have a strong bond with (tho unknowingly one sided) was Darius. It's all clearly very intentional that Darius and Alfyn are meant to parallel each other, even if they don't properly interact in game.
Hopefully this pleases you anon. I tried to remember everything.

Honestly, I'd piss him off on purpose. (Namjoon x OFC)
Pairing: Namjoon x Original Female Character
Genre/Warnings: Smut, Angst, Fluff, too tired to beta
Tags: Artist!Namjoon, Yoongi and Tae are the best flatmates, Enemies to Lovers I guess... more like brats to making out in the storage unit, OFC is an idiot.
Summary:
"Wow. Is that that grumpy artist behind you? Jesus. He really looks like a bit of a dick. And you are right. He really is hot..." Oh no. Speakerphone. Namjoon was standing behind me and was staring at me. Then at my phone. He let out a little laugh, then raised his hand to wave at Tae and Yoongi outside who were now also staring at him as if frozen, before turning around in unison. As if that would help. As if he couldn't see them. Or better even... couldn't hear them.
[...]
Mister Darcy has nothing on Kim Namjoon - that new and upcoming artist you probably already heard of (You haven't? How dare you? At least have the decency to pretend you have!). He is cold, serious, and rather good at making other people believe he is a prick. Especially Elizabeth Bennet - uh... Charlotte - is about to lose it because of him. Maybe in a good way. Man, I'd literally piss him off on purpose.

CHAPTER 1
Even the sound of my own nails rhythmically tapping on the top of the counter was annoying me. To be fair, it didn't need much today to blow my fuze that had never been particularly long in the first place. But after a week consisting of being belittled by old white men and endless hours of unpaid overtime I about had it. Welcome to the art world. You know well before you enter that the hours are horrible and the job market is more than frustrating, but you love art and you have good organisational skills, you are resilient, charming when it counts and tend to romanticize things even when you know you shouldn't. It's too late to turn around now.
"That is why I don't use an agenda or notebook. If something is important enough for me to attend I simply won't forget. I know you youngsters are all about the bullet journaling and expressing yourself by mapping out your life but it really is just another way to procrastinate instead of getting to actual work." For a second I considered throwing my damn notebook in the buyer's face, but that probably wouldn't have helped my CV and the new job I would have to look for starting tomorrow. At least I should have screamed at him a little. Mainly, that I didn't care, that I was on my period and my shitty shower in the shitty flat i shared had broken and no dry shampoo in the world had fixed my hair this morning and that god damn it, how the hell was I supposed to remember every phone number, every call my boss had to take, every art handling transport I had organized if I couldn't write it down somewhere. Instead, I smiled. Died a little on the inside and complimented him on the gift of his exceptional memory and asked whether he would like another cup of coffee.
"What a dick." Samantha murmured, more to herself than me, after the guy had finally left, which made me snort under my breath. She usually didn't say much but when she did it was usually pure gold. In the end, it didn't matter that he was. Didn't matter that everyone at the gallery thought the art he had bought from us over the last couple of months had neither been smart nor impressive purchases. Mainly expensive. And flashy.
"Doesn't matter now." I said in a sigh after a quick glance at the clock. It was Friday night and we were about to close. Since it was my birthday on Monday I had taken two days off, about the longest break I had had this year and I was looking forward to being the lazy slob for a few days I was maybe always meant to be. In silence we answered a few last emails, tidied up the desks and counters so that potential buyers that would come in over the weekend wouldn't have to suspect anyone was actually working here. - A white desk. A huge Imac on it. That was all they needed to see, folders and pens and apparently especially agendas to be hidden away in drawers.
At five to eight I threw on my coat and Samantha just gave me a tired smile. Probably happy for me, just exhausted. "Have fun then? Don't get too wasted?" "Oh..." I said with a huge smug grin on my lips. "You have no idea... gonna take a bottle of Moët with me from the bar and drink it in my bathtub after eating a huge pepperoni pizza by myself and dancing to only the finest of 90s Euro Trash." I couldn't help it, apparently, I felt it necessary to give Sam a little demonstration, waving my arms up and down while swaying my hips in a way that I'd probably would not have if it hadn't been for a bit with an audience of a single person. Or maybe two?
A quiet scoff behind me and I quickly turned around, slowly lowering my arms, Sam biting her lower lip at the sight of me standing there like an idiot in front of HIM of all people.
Men didn't have to be old to annoy me. Or white. Yes, those were the ones that pissed me off most usually, but no one had managed to do so as much as Kim Namjoon recently. And now he was standing there, looking me up and down and stopping at my hair. The crazy too-much-dry-shampoo-because-the-shower-broke-hair. "Nice." He just commented and then looked over at Sam. "I'd like to take a last look before Sunday's opening if that is okay?" I stood there, my shoulders dropping, completely ignored.
"Uhm, actually, my babysitter has to leave in about an hour and I will have to be home before that." Samantha replied and I was impressed by how calm she stayed. "Of course." Namjoon said and gave her a slight smile. "Anyone else still around? Chris maybe?" Of course Chris hadn't been in today. It was Friday and unless important guests had announced themselves the owner of the gallery wasn't around on Fridays... "I am afraid not. But maybe Charlotte has a few minutes?" Well. Thanks. Thanks a lot. I felt a little betrayed. "Wouldn't want to keep anyone from their important Moët-Pizza-Dance Party plans." Namjoon replied before I could say a word. His voice once more dropping to a hushed, deep disapproval and his hands buried in the pockets of his rather expensive looking coat. Silence for a few moments and then he just walked off towards the room his exhibition had been set up all week. Showing without a further word that I would have to stay anyways if he wanted it that way.
"Well thank you for pushing me under the bus like that. Really appreciate it." "I am so sorry. But I was serious, I can't lose this babysitter. She got Jamie to eat vegetables. VEGETABLES!" Samantha suddenly seemed in a rush, grabbing her jacket and purse and showering me in promises she would make it up to me. Even though we both knew that wouldn't happen and wasn't necessary. Suddenly having to stay longer was normal. I just hated that it had to be today. And because of him.
I heard the door close behind Sam and I stood there for a second before putting my bag down again. Usually, I would have followed the artist, asking if I could somehow help, but nahhh... my ego was bruised up enough now, especially remembering the little dance. I closed my eyes. Fucking hated the guy. Always had. Well, not quite. I had thought he was cool for about five minutes when he had come in the first time. We had heard about him for quite a few months before, I think I had even seen pictures of him at some point, but those were nothing compared to him in real life. He came in all cheekbones and sharp chin and an all grey outfit, quick pace, observant gaze. Incredibly hot. He had also completely ignored me.
That's how it had started - a bruised ego. He couldn't know that it was my weak spot. Having studied art and its management and now feeling like a better secretary at times, when my colleagues and I were doing all the behind the scenes work while Chris worked very little hours and ended up with all the money and recognition. I was aware this wasn't the only field of work where this was the case, but it still frustrated me... I had imagined my life in the last years of my 20s to be a bit more glamorous than living in a tiny apartment on the outskirts of the city... spending my Friday night waiting for some rude artist dude to leave so I could lock up.
But what I perhaps hated most about him... was that I admired him. - Purely for his art. Really. Even the fact that he kept acting as if I wasn't around every time he came in didn't mean I couldn't admit that. At least to myself. The stories behind his huge colleagues were clever and thought through, but even without context, the pure aesthetics were mesmerizing. It was the kind of art that touched something deep inside of you and standing in front of it I always had a hundred questions. Whenever he brought in a new piece I was the first one to sneak a peek in the back rooms before it was hung.
"I don't get why you have such a problem with him. He is just... quiet. I think he might even be shy... stop being so sensitive and just ask him out already." I had almost strangled Sam for that comment a couple of weeks back. Stop being so sensitive. What did that even mean? Comments like that made me want to cry and scream at the same time, which probably would have been perceived as even more sensitive, but when had insensitivity become something to strive for? I had only kept quiet because I liked Sam and I knew what she had tried to say. At least I thought so. That I might have given less of a shit if I hadn't been rather attracted to Namjoon. Even though I had never mentioned it, she just knew. She knew if I didn't care about something I didn't waste my time on it. But if something made me angry or upset there was usually more to it. I hated that she could read me that easily. But he was still a dick and I still wanted to go home.
He took his sweet time. After an hour I walked up to him, a little speech prepared in my head about how he could come back first thing tomorrow. But when he turned around he just raised a hand between us to keep me from interrupting and turned away again. I hadn't seen that he was on the phone. "No, it's nothing, just one of the gallery employees." I heard him say and okay... if I wasn't about to explode before I was now. I stood there for a minute, fuming, and then simply walked back to the office area, my hand shaking when I started turning off the gallery lights one by one. It wasn't as satisfying as I had hoped but still felt good. Two minutes later the only lights still on were the one above my head and the one in front of the door. I would at least give him a clear direction where to head, he seemed to need it.
When Namjoon appeared out of one of the dark corners he looked even more annoyed than usual. Looking my direction through squinting eyes and his tongue pushing against the inside of his cheek. "Seriously?" he yelled my way and almost walked into one of the little flyer shelves. Wasn't the first time I had seen that happen to him though so maybe that had nothing to do with the light.
I felt oddly triumphant. By the time I had put on my coat and turned off the remaining lights, ready to finally lock up, Namjoon had almost found his way, standing in the open door, still on his phone. A little groan from my side when he didn't even notice that I was standing behind me went by unnoticed. Or simply ignored. But instead of the appropriate clearing of the throat or the maybe less polite squeezing past him, I just put my hands on his back and gently pushed him forward a bit, until his feet hit the pavement and he turned around. Dropping his hand with the phone in it, for a second he looked like he wanted to push back. Or trample me.
"Okay, what the hell is your problem, Charlotte?" His voice was hoarse. His eyes dark. God, he was hot. I hated him so much. "You." I simply replied and stared at him for a second, then turned around and locked the two locks on the door before stepping over to the alarm system. I couldn't help feeling smug because apparently, he knew my name. I imagined him staring at the back of my head because he was flustered, but couldn't be sure. All I knew was that when I turned around again a minute later he was still standing there, his arms crossed in front of his chest, his lips pressed together forming a straight line and watching me.
"Do you always act like that at work around people who could get you into trouble?" He was right, he could get me into trouble. But I was too fired up now, my heart racing. "Is that a threat?" "An observation." "Only around the ones I don't like." "Cool." "Great." "Enjoy the dance party. Sounds shit."
And with those words he had turned around, coat flying open in the wind, unfortunately making him look really cool as he walked away and I ABSOLUTELY HATED HIM. I kept my mouth shut and just walked off in the other direction, realizing minutes later that my car was parked the other way, but I kept walking for a while before I finally turned around. It took a while to calm down and only cuddling up to my cat on the couch to trash tv finally did the job. But by then I had realized something I wasn't sure I liked too much. Yeah, I thought he was a prick. And yeah I should have just played it cool. Would have been much smarted in many regards. But I also had somewhat enjoyed myself in the most fucked up way.
Seeing that stern look, that intense posture as he was towering over me... man, I'd literally piss him off on purpose.

SOMEWHERE IN NEVERLAND (ICHIRUKI AU)
Here it is! My first and probably last entry for Ichiruki Month 2021... to be more specific, itâs for Day 11 with the prompt âWhat do you dream of?â Â
I think the last time I participated was like, what? Five years ago? Yikes. I didnât even improve haha and okay, I know somewhere, sometime ago, someone has already done this AU though. And this was based off the amazing work of jon-lock from deviant art so this would look like crap next to his work. I mean I suck at coloring and at a bunch of other things, I know! But I just really felt like doing this.Â
I was actually thinking of writing a fic about it, but if Iâm the one doing it, itâs probably going to be multi-chaptered and I just canât commit to that. So if you know of any fics or fanart with the same theme, hope you can link them to me đ Iâd really love to dive myself in them.
But despite saying that, it didnât stop me from writing this silly one-shot called Somewhere In Neverland feel free to read and review there, if you have the time.
And now, if you read through all that, thank you so much for your time! Be safe, hope you enjoy the rest of your day and the rest of Ichiruki Month :D
And now for some more story time, you donât need to read through this. It will be just me sharing some personal stuff⊠So feel free to move on with your life without this. Seriously. You can stop here if you just accidentally pressed the keep reading button, you are forgiven đ
Oh⊠youâre still reading? Okay, then. So Iâve been really depressed lately, more on because my current job sucks, I just lost the opportunity to get my dream job, the pandemicâs still on-going and I just feel like nothingâs really going on with my life (T.T) Iâm broke AF, itâs hard to fall asleep, my face is all pimply, Iâve gained a lot of weight and basically, this is just a low point for me.Â
Okay, I know that there are other people with much bigger problems than what Iâm going through right now so I just try to deal with it on my own. I made a fanart, just to feel like Iâm focusing on something and I actually finished the thing just to ease my mind of my worries. It was kinda therapeutic and I kind of like the feeling of actually accomplishing something. And I even mustered up the courage to join the discord server for IR. My anti-social ass was proud of that. I was even thinking of posting this fanart there just to show everyone that I really appreciate them for welcoming me but at the last minute I chickened out but ended up posting it here? I donât know either. Iâm weird like that. Even though everyone there seemed really fun and supportive, I just⊠didnât want to ruin the vibe with my negative aura (the latest chapter was enough to trigger everyone. Didnât wanna add to that).
Anyway, thinking about these past horrible days and listening to some really sad songs, because why not add to the drama? I was listening to one song about running away to âNeverlandâ and it got me thinking wouldnât it be great if I were to just stay a kid forever? That way I wouldnât have to deal with the pressures of adulthood. Then I thought about Wendy from Neverland and somehow I remembered that on that 2nd Disney movie, she grew up. And to confirm it, I just had to search for that clip on youtube. And yes, it was the part where Peter saw her as an adult and oh god, I kid you not, I started bawling. One, because I didnât realize that I ship them⊠oops⊠and I wondered if Wendy, even as an adult, ever thought of what itâd be like if she had stayed in Neverland. Then I also found this deleted scene from the live action movie which showed Peter reuniting with her, hoping to take her back but he couldnât anymore because sheâs all grown up, and he was so heartbroken by it but then she introduces him to her daughter, with who he takes with him (weird? Maybe that was why it was deleted haha).
And so, Iâve been thinking about it a lot and as always I ended up thinking about Bleach and IR because of the new chapter and all (which wasnât released yet back then). And I wondered what would it be like if they were in Peter pan and Wendyâs shoesâbut first off, I didnât think Ichigo would fit the role of not growing up because I donât know, despite being a teen, he looked matured and kinda scary? Kids would never go with him. Heâll be better as the Grinch of Christmas because kids would probably feel like theyâll be bullied even though heâs a nice guy. And so I realize, oh itâs better if we switch them up and make Rukia Peter Pan because sheâd be looking young forever while Ichigo grows old (which was what I was expecting from Bleach but somehow they all seem to be aging at the same time now, with all the marriages and the making babies or whatever) And to parallel the manga I realized that maybe having Ichigo live his life (in the world of the living) and have a family would probably be something that Rukia would be really proud of and would be happy to see (Okay, hold up. Just to be clear, I still donât like the ending for so many other reasons but if it had to go down with Ichigo making a family WITHOUT Rukia then this better be the damn reason for it and thatâs to protect him by making him live a normal and safe life before they reunite again in SS. I rest my case.).
And so I connect all this to Day 11 â What do you dream of? Because, well, since the prompt really is up to interpretation⊠it can be like a âdreamâ in life? Or just maybe a dream at night? Anyway, this is what I dreamt of literally. Again, Iâve been thinking about it all the time lately so I had to let it out. And of course, in relation to IR and in this AU setting, they probably dream of being together too (both in life and at night haha) <3
And thatâs about it. I just want to leave this long message here so that when the time comes that I feel so much better, Iâll know what I was going through behind this not-so-good-but-a-little-better-than-my-other-works-so-far fanart and that one-shot that I tried my best to write despite my writing skills being very rusty, and know that it will be alright someday and that Iâll probably get through it whatever it was that Iâm going through at this moment.
If youâve reached until the end then wow. Bless your kind soul really and hope you have a great dinner and of course, thank you for lending me your ears or eyes (since you had to read). I may not know you but I really, really appreciate your time đ

The Sims 4 Paranormal Stuff: Developer Blog (Part 1)
SimGuruConnor has released part 1 of the Sims 4 Paranormal Developer Blog series.
Hello Simmers! Welcome to a small 2-part Dev Blog about our newest Stuff Pack, Paranormal Stuff! This pack has been an absolute blast to work on, and Iâm excited to share what this pack is all about!
Iâll try not to reveal too many spoilers for the pack either, so Iâll keep things somewhat brief. Our topics for today are the new Scared Mood and the Haunted House Lot Type, plus an interview with our Audio Artist too!
Get Scared
Sims can now relish in the mortal dread of the Scared Mood! The Scared Mood affects Sims in a variety of ways, with my personal favorite, the new Scream Incoherently interaction, where a Scared Sim runs up to another Sim to scream their lungs out. This can result in the other Sim calming down the Scared Sim, or resulting in both Sims becoming Scared. This can create a Scared Mood wildfire if youâre not careful!
Whoa, whoa, whoa, it's okay!
Sims afflicted with the Scared Mood also have trouble communicating with others, the urge to panic-run everywhere, and are slightly more prone to accidents. If no other Sims are around to help calm down a Scared Sim, they might just have to Hide Under The Covers for a while.
But if being Scared just isnât your Sims style, consider purchasing the new Brave Trait. This Satisfaction Reward Store Trait will rapidly reduce the incoming fear a Sim feels and help Sims regain their composure faster. While no Sim is totally fearless, this trait should help mitigate some of those creepy feelings.
The Scared Mood and the Brave Reward Trait are all base game features coming with the Paranormal Stuff patch on January 21st. Tons of previous Uncomfortable Buffs are now becoming Scared Buffs, such as the âStartled By Ghostâ Buff or the âThalassophobiaâ Buff from Island Living.
While being Scared might not be a common occurrence in your everyday Sims life, living in a Haunted House is a whole different storyâŠ
Happy Haunts
Introducing the Haunted House Lot Type!
The Duplantier Dwelling, created by Doctor Ashley! This âcanonâ Haunted House will be available in the gallery!
Theyâre like regular houses, only haunted! Although unassuming during the day, at night, these places get super weird. Your Sims may notice things like flickering lights, pipes rattling, or even creepy dolls staring at them in the corner. All are totally normal occurrences in a Haunted House, but it may take some time for your Sims to adjust to their new surroundings.
Sims living in a Haunted House will also be introduced to floating apparitions known as Specters. Theyâre cute little critters, but their motives arenât entirely clear. You can try talking to them, or even offer them presents in hopes of establishing a good rapport. If they like you, theyâll drop special loot for you and your family. If they donât like you, well, youâve been warned.
o o o (> â u â )>
Learning to get along with your new ghostly inhabitants is crucial in a Haunted House. Things like botching seances, neglecting Specters, or letting accursed objects invade your house will have a negative impact on its spiritual serenity. There is a delicate art to co-existing with the entities of the house, and thankfully youâll have an expert on the matter to assist you!
Meet Guidry
Claude RenĂ© Duplantier Guidry was a seasoned Paranormal Investigator in his previous life, but now he exists to help anyone brave enough to live in a Haunted House! Youâll probably run into him eventually living in a Haunted House, but donât worry, heâs a nice ghost!
Guidry will gladly offer his wisdom to those who seek it. If youâre confused, alarmed, or slightly uncomfortable by your new haunted surroundings, give Guidry a holler and he might be able to help. He can also offer valuable objects to help your Sims, too; all you need is to reach out!
Still got it.
All Guidry wants in return is to crash at your place for the time being. Sounds like a fair deal, right? But if youâd prefer to fly it solo, you can always disable his nightly visitsâhe wonât be too upset, maybe.
As mentioned before, Guidry was a Paranormal Investigator before his untimely demise. If he sees potential in you, he can certify you with a Paranormal Investigation License, granting access to the Paranormal Investigation Freelancer Gigs. Only those who are qualified enough can join the ranks of Paranormal Investigators, but more on that next time!
Be Brave!
Living in a Haunted House adds a layer of risk and reward for your Sims, and each successful night yields Reward Store Satisfaction Points for everyone in the Household. Specters can also drop treasure that can also be collected, consumed, or sold to an Oddity Collector. So although your Sims might go through a bit of peril, theyâll thankfully be compensated.
One of my favorite pieces of haunted treasure is the new Sacred Candle. Not only do they look cool, but they also help protect Sims from paranormal influences. Place them around your house to make sure Sims are properly shielded!
A properly protected Sim.
Things like Sacred Candles and performing ceremonies at the SĂ©ance Table are integral to keeping your Sims happy in a Haunted House. Without using these paranormal tools, the entities of the house might get a little bossy.
And while it might be in your Simsâ best interest to keep the spirits of the house in check, watching things go horribly wrong in a Haunted House can be just as fun too. So whatever works for you!
Like Tiny Homes, this Lot Type can be toggled on or off at any time. So whether youâre a casual thrillseeker who wants to spend a couple of nights in a Haunted House, or a seasoned Paranormal Expert who wants to take on a new challenge, this Lot Type should offer something for you!
Crosspack Stuff!
Pets get to share the fun too! They especially love the accursed objects that show up!
I think theyâre gonna get along great.
As mentioned before, a ton of old Buffs from multiple packs are now being converted to the Scared Mood. I think 70 something Moodlets were converted? Honestly, I lost count. Anything that seemed more appropriate for the Scared Mood was transferred over.
Oh, and you might remember an old Lot Trait from City Living called Haunted. For clarityâs sake, it needed a name change, so now itâs the Spooky Lot Trait. It also benefits from being combined with the new Haunted House Lot Type and will have an increased chance of spawning Ghosts at night. So use both for maximum haunted-ness!
Audibly Frightened
Last but not least, Iâd love to turn it over to our Audio Artist for this pack, Briana Billups! She did a killer job bringing Haunted Houses to life! Trust me!
Conor: Can you tell us what an Audio Artist does on The Sims 4?
Briana: Big, broad picture: an audio artist decides what everything in The Sims 4 sounds like. We record, create, and edit sounds to the art and animation of the game. Little, very detailed picture: creating the actual sounds is usually one of the smaller aspects of our job. We are meeting with other departments, like design, animation, and VFX, to understand the overall vision of new game features and how we can fit in sonically. We are meeting with each other to make sure all our new content still keeps the very fun and quirky vibe of the Sims. We come up with new tools and implementation where necessary.
Conor: What sort of things go into the creative process for creating audio?
Briana: Every audio artist/sound designer has their own creative process, but I like to make a âsonic mood boardâ of sorts. I typically like to have a good idea of what I want something to sound like in my head before I record or edit it, so itâs nice to have sound effects or music to refer to that represents my original inspiration or ideas. When I was in college, I would make Spotify playlists for whatever I was working on. I would listen to them once a day, adding and editing as necessary, so when I actually got to work, I was in the right headspace. Now Iâm usually less formal about this sort of stuff, but for this pack, I would refer back to things like Vincent Priceâs demonic laugh from Thriller or Casper the Friendly Ghost Cartoons and the looping soundtrack from the queue of a horror ride at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk (Ghost Blasters)
Conor: What were you most excited to work on for this pack?
Briana: Definitely all the haunted house sounds! Good sound design is the crux of so many horror movies and video games, so even if we were keeping things more âCasperâ and less âPoltergeist,â I still wanted to give a good scare here and there. I actually scared myself one day while playtesting another feature in the game!
Conor: If you had to choose, what is your favorite audio clip youâve ever added to The Sims 4?
Briana: I would say my favorite SFX were the sports arena loops in EP08: Discover University. When you visit the arena for the soccer/esports match or graduation, you can actually listen to the whole game or ceremony. It was great to craft a whole story from start to finish using just sound. I also snuck in a lot of developer names when writing the scripts for our voice actors.
Thanks, Briana!
More To Come!
That about covers this first foray into the Paranormal Stuff Pack! This pack has been a ton of fun to work on, and watching my Sims flee in terror has been more enjoyable than Iâd like to admit.
Next blog, weâll focus on the SĂ©ance Table and developing your Medium skill, as well as the new active freelance career Paranormal Investigator.
Big thanks to the Stuff Pack team for helping this pack come to life, and thank you, Doctor Ashley, for building our featured Haunted House!
Until next time, SimGuruConor

chapter four: symbiosis
symbiosis: interaction between two different organisms living in close physical association, typically to the advantage of both.
VIRGIL
âUh,â Virgil says, scrambling in the face of his motherâhair wrapped for the night, blinking the sleep out of her eyes, her arms crossed, âMyâmyself?â
Technically true, he guesses, according to some of the sensateâs personal beliefs about the connections they share with their clusters, according to Logan according to Dot. Like having other selves scattered across the world.
Andisiwe frowns. âAt this time of night?â
Virgil shrugs weakly.
She frowns deeper. Then:
âYou know,â she says, looking at him very intently, âyour grandmother used to talk to herself at all times of day, too.â
Virgil stays silent. His mother crouches to sit with him on the floor, settling with a long sigh.
âAbout anything at all,â she continues. âSheâd talk about the snow when this country hadnât seen snow for ten years. Sheâd laugh when no one told a joke, cried when nothing sad had happened. Sheâd make recipes Iâd never heard of before. You remember her pitha?â
Virgil nods, confused. Of course he remembers her pitha. Theyâd have it at every large family gathering.
âThatâs an Indian dessert. Sheâd never left South Africa in all her life, but she knew how to make pitha and speak Tamil like she was born in Bangalore. Just like you were speaking a language other than Xhosa or English just now.â
Oh, Virgil thinks, then, oh.
âSo unless you started taking language lessons while studying for your doctorate,â she says, staring at him.
Virgil chews at the inside of his cheek.
âNo,â he says hoarsely. âNo, I didnât.â
She nods, accepting this. âHow longâŠ?â
âI donât know,â Virgil admits. âA week and a half? Two weeks?â
âNot long at all,â she murmurs. â I suppose it might skip a generation. She told me once it started when she was a child. A horrible headache struck her, and once it let up she had seven new friends all around the world. When they were all ten, maybe.â
Ten, Virgil thinks, mind whirling. God, to deal with all this at the age of ten?
âSensates,â Virgil croaks. âWeâre called sensates.â
His mother offers him a smile.Â
âI know,â she says. âTell me about them.â
âOneâs here,â Virgil says, and he looks at the big, tall, tattooed man. âI donât think I got your name last time.â
The man walks from his plush apartment rug to sit on the hardwood floor.Â
âPatton Taumata,â he says with Virgilâs mouth, offering a bright smile to Virgilâs mother, sitting beside him. âMÄori, New Zealander.â
And then Virgil feels what Patton does nextâpull seems too strong a word, but itâs the closest he has.
Sitting across from him, looking vaguely disgruntled to find himself on the ground, yet still sitting at his desk in his home office.
âJanus Slange,â he says. âLondon.â
He slides out of Virgilâs body to find a spot to sit thatâs a bit more refined.
Patton turns his head, and Virgil turns his gaze to follow.
âRoman Regio,â the actor says, looking up from his script to gesture beside him. âAnd my brother, Remus. Who is currently on his way to Mexico City, which he should have done as soon as he got accused.â
âThis is such a dumb plan,â Remus groans, resting his head simultaneously against the bus window and Virgilâs bed. âI want all of you batshit hallucinations to know that I donât come up with plans this stupid. My plans are refined in the way they cause utter chaos.â
Sitting in his bed in the barracks and beside Virgil, so close their thighs almost touch, giving Virgil a thrill that shoots all the way to his fingertipsâ
âLogan ZieliĆski,â he says to Virgilâs mother, careful to sound respectful. âI was just here. Iâm Polish, but Iâm currently studying in Antarctica. Space research.â
Theyâre here. All of them here. But Virgil sees Patton reach againâ
EMILE
âand Emile beams at the sight before him. Patton turns to grin at him.
âWell done!â Emile says, filled to bursting with pride.Â
Patton! Reliably being able to pull them all in to visit together! That kind of skillâcoupled with the fact that Patton, back in his apartment in Auckland, is peaceably planning lessons with a sitcom in the backgroundâcan take other sensates months of practice to truly achieve.Â
âIs this your mother?â He asks Virgil.
Virgil says, âUm, Mom, myâcluster parent?â
Emile makes an eh handwavey gesture followed by a thumbs-up. âWhatever youâre comfortable with, Iâm comfortable with!â
ââis here right now. His nameâsââ
He speaks at the same time as Emile does.
âDr. Emile Picani, hi thereâ!â
ââand heâs American.â
Virgilâs motherâs brow wrinkles in distaste, but she does a good show of trying to hide it.
âThatâs fair,â Emile says. âAmericans areâwell, yâknow. Youâve seen the news.â
âThis is my mother, Dr. Andisiwe Nkosi. My grandmother was a sensate too, apparently.â
âOh, thatâs lovely!â Emile exclaims. âThere are sensates within biological families, of courseââ he gestures to Roman and Remus, ââbut things are still up in the air about if and how being homo sensorium passes down.â
âDot said the number of sensates is rising due to epigenetic factors,â Logan says.
âOh, youâve met Dot!â Emile says delightedly.Â
âShe answered many of the questions I have,â Logan says, and for a blip, theyâre all sitting in the barracks in Antarctica as Logan reaches for a notebook and pen. âBut I still have many questions.â
âEntirely understandable,â Emile says.
âWait, you got your questions answered?â Roman demands, and theyâre all sitting on Romanâs apartmentâs massive balcony overlooking Mexico City. âI just got this oneââ he points accusingly at Janus, âtelling me hey, surprise, youâre not actually losing your shit!â
Janus shrugs, and theyâre all surrounded by monitors, blinking with so many different points of data it makes Emile a little dizzy. âHe just showed up in the mirror while I was shaving.â
âWell,â Emile says, and theyâre all in Emileâs apartment at home. Emile puts a kettle on the stove. âIâm here now. So what questions can I help you answer? Or, at least, activate the Archipelago to get some kind of answer for you. If you can think of some kind of subject, thereâs probably a sensate that knows something about it, but I suppose we should probably start with the sensate-specific questions.â
Remus puts up a hand and asks, loudly, âCan I use the psychic connection with other sensates to have some kind of insane worldwide orgy?â
ROMAN
Sasha is out for a key art photoshoot, so Roman has the whole apartment to himself. Which is good, because he got a bit busy last night with the whole explanation of what exactly it is thatâs been happening to him, and then yelling in disgust when Remus asked gross questions about it.
Romanâs considering if he wants to paint his nailsâitâs not like he can keep it, if solely for movie continuityâjust to have something to do with his hands when the door cracks open.
And in steps Remusâabsolutely filthy, staring at Roman incredulously, a fake mustache plastered above his real mustache that he immediately rips off.
âIt worked,â Roman says gleefully. âIt worked!â
âFirst of all, cops ainât shit, I probably should have expected literally every police officer to sleep on the job when seeing someone suspicious board a bus, but Jesus fuckinâ Christ, your security munches ass,â Remus declares, âThey let a murderer get into your apartment.âÂ
Roman bursts out laughing.
âItâs not funny!â Remus says, pulling off the fake beard heâd donned. âIt took five pesos of stolen fake beard and mustache to fool everyone, are you fucking kidding meâ?!â
Roman slides off the couch, gripping his stomach, heâs laughing so hard.
âWhat?!â Remus demands, throwing off the overly large trench coat heâd been huddling under.
âYou,â Roman wheezes, then, âyou said the plan was stupid and it wouldnât workâ!â
âIt is stupid! I come up with way better plans than this, youâre telling me that you came up with the stupid kid movie plan and I didnât?! And it shouldnât have workedâRoman, stop laughing, your fangirls are fucking batshit crazy, could you imagine what kind of weird Wattpad shit theyâd get up to if they knew how easy it was to break in here?!â
Roman is screaming with laughter, because literally all they needed was a fake mustache and beard, and ooh Roman can tell that Remus is pissed that Roman came up with this plan first because itâs such a perfectly Remus plan. He isnât sure how much of it is a sensate thing versus a twin brother thing, but all the same, Roman knows that Remus is absolutely fuming, which makes it even funnier.
Remus storms off, shouting, âJust for this, Iâm going to use up all your fancy shampoo! Iâm going to take the biggest, nastiest shit in your bathroom! IâmâIâm going to eat all your soap! I will! Iâll do it! Iâm eating all your soap!â
LOGAN
Itâs still a little startling to look over at his notebook and suddenly find himself in South Africa, but heâs gotten a little more accustomed to it since the night before. Heâs been feeling a pull to South Africa all day, like an ache deep in his chest. He isnât entirely sure why.
Virgil glances over at him and smiles, just a little. Logan smiles back. Virgil clears his throat and returns his attention to the textbook before him.
âRomanâs plan worked,â he says.Â
Logan huffs, shaking his head. Honestly. Itâs like those American movies when three children stack on top of each other and wear a large trenchcoat and a fake beard to gain access to the movies, but it actually worked.Â
In retrospect, Loganâs sure that Remus would have foregone his escape into the wilderness if heâd known that donning a disguise and having his rich brother pay away the arrest troubles and their psychically connected lawyer argue before the court would have worked so neatly.
However, considering that nearly every aspect of that plan is absolutely off the rails ridiculous, the escape into the wilderness must have seemed like a prudent measure to take at the time.
âHowâs your research?â Logan asks, sitting down on Virgilâs bed.Â
âPretty good,â Virgil says, his tone very casual. âI think the fact that abrus precatoriusââ
âThe scientific name for rosary peas,â Logan assumes. He is rewarded by a nod from Virgil.
ââisnât native to Mexico and the fact that Remus hasnât traveled for years on end is a pretty good basis for Janus to go on. Plus, abrinââ
âThe toxin?â Logan clarifies and receives a nod.
ââis incredibly toxic, to the point where anyone ordering rosary peas would probably get pinged under some kind of monitoring system. So there wouldnât really be a way for Remus himself to get them. Miguel Contreras, on the other handââ
âThe murder victim?â Logan says, startled.
âYesâon the other hand, he went to Florida very recently. He got back three days before his death, in fact.â
âI thought they were native to Asia and Australia?â
âYeah, they are, but rosary peas are an invasive species, and theyâve been clocked in the pine rocklands there,â Virgil says. âSymptoms usually occur pretty quick, but it can take up to five days to show up, depending on the method of ingestion. And considering the seed of just one pea could be fatalâŠâ
âThen the cause of death could very well be found in Florida!â Logan says. âAnd the only thing they have on Remusââ
ââAre threats, exactly,â Virgil says enthusiastically. âAnd considering the way Remus is as a person, Janus could probably get those hand-waved away as being under jest, rather than an actual threat to kill him.â
They smile at each other again, Virgilâs lips twisting wryly.Â
âIâve been wanting to visit you all day,â he says abruptly, and Logan feels that flutter in his stomach again, the one heâs been feeling since they first met; heâs willing to admit to himself that it most certainly isnât unease, now. It is a near antonym of unease.
âI have too,â Logan admits, trying his very best to keep his voice informal.
Virgilâs smile softens, a little. âYeah?â
âYes,â Logan affirms, and the flutter in his stomach intensifies.
They stare at each other. Virgilâs eyes, Logan notices abruptly, are objectively beautiful. Framed by long lashes, his eyes are so dark a shade of brown theyâre practically black, so easy to stare at, admiring the way a sudden shift in the lighting would illuminate the subtle honeyed depths of them.Â
For a moment, Logan gets a flicker; heâs looking at his own eyes, blue and framed by his glasses, but the emotion in him doesnât change, the fleeting thought of look how gorgeous, and suddenly he is back to looking at Virgil, and, as one, they look away.
Virgil coughs awkwardly. âThis sensate thingâweird, huh?â
For the first time, Logan wonders if the feeling in his stomach is not entirely his own. If it is something shared.
But, Logan thinks, sneaking a look at Virgil taking notes, twirling his pen idly over the backs of his long fingers, he supposes that neither of them would be able to tell that, anyways.
REMUS
Remus is bouncing his leg so much that the cop near him is giving him a disdainful look.
Or maybe the look is because the cop thinks heâs a murderer. Whatever.
âAre you sure this is gonna work,â Remus mutters out of the corner of his mouth because he hasnât gotten the hang of visiting someone in his cluster and going about day-to-day life like a normal person, the way more experienced sensates can.Â
âPositive,â Janus says. Heâs sitting crossed-legged beside Remus in his holding cell, where theyâre waiting to be transported to the courtroom. Remus is pretty sure most lawyers shouldnât turn up to court in pajamas, but considering that to the rest of the courtroom Remus is going to play at being his own lawyer, itâs all fine.Â
âAll they have on you is proximity and threats,â Janus continues. âAnd considering the voice in your novels, along with the parts in your dust jacketsâ where you literally threaten your readers, I can get that set aside no problem.â
Remus inhales heavily and exhales just as noisily.
âRight,â he says. âRight.â
Roman flickers into sight just long enough to shoot Remus a thumbs up, and as Janus resumes spitting legal jargon, Remus feels his shoulders relax.
PATTON
âBe careful with our bezzie Buzzy Bee!â Patton says brightly. Heâs crouched before Sophie, having helped untangle the string. âLetâs make sure we donât tangle him up again, eh?â
âI will, Mr. T!â Sophie shouts, already on the run with the toy, and Patton huffs ruefully. Itâll probably be tangled up again by the end of the day.
A brief chill across his skin, and Patton shivers before he refocuses on the sunny afternoon, here, in Auckland.
By the time heâs stood upright, Loganâs beside him, in a white lab coat.
âDo you really need that much air conditioning down there?â Patton says. âSeems a bit overkill, mate.â
Logan shrugs, closing a door, hiding away some kind of equipment that looks very finicky and complex. âIâm not the one in charge of the facility.â
âFair enough,â Patton says. âIâm pretty sure Iâll be asked to join in on some kind of game, soon. You like rugby?â
âItâs not exactly popular in Poland.â
âHm. Guess not,â Patton says. âProbably shouldâve known that already.â
âThe whole sharing knowledge aspect of this does seem to be rather dependent on a variety of factors,â Logan says thoughtfully. âI donât think I automatically know the minutiae of New Zealand history and culture just because you might; I think we have to be doing something to trigger that sharing of knowledge.âÂ
Patton huhs thoughtfully.
âIf you didnât know how to drive a car, for instance,â Logan theorizes, âand I did, and you sat behind a wheel and needed to drive somewhere, I would probably be able to impart that knowledge to you.â
âI can ask Emile,â Patton says, ready to turn and look in on Florida, but heâs stopped by Loganâs frustrated, âhow do you do that?â
âHm?â Patton says, turning to look at him.
âThis seems to come so effortlessly to you,â Logan says. âYou drop in and seem totally at ease, you could control if we all came to see Virgil a couple nights ago, and by the reactions of those around you, you donât seem to be talking to thin airââ
âWell, weâre mostly, surrounded by five-year-olds, they wouldnât be too phased by the concept of me having an imaginary friend,â Patton points out. Logan doesnât seem particularly amused by this.
âI donât know,â Patton admits. âEmile thought I was just very communicative, for a sensate. That might be it; Iâve always been pretty chatty. It also might be because MÄori have beliefs about how we are all connectedâpeople, nature, all living thingsâso maybe I was a little more prepared to accept that I was literally connected to other people because I grew up with that as a sacred ideal.â
They watch children run and play for a few minutes; Manaia, diving to catch a football in the game of rugby that had assembled; Sophie, racing between everyone with her Buzzy Bee clack-clack-clacking behind her; Oliver, shyly joining in on a game of hopscotch.
The grass sways in the light breeze, the sun had peeked out from behind its clouds, leaving the entire playground awash in light and warmth. The laughter of children carries on the wind. Pattonâs coworkers occasionally look up from their tiny charges to smile and wish him a good day.
âItâs really rather nice here,â Logan says quietly. âIâve never been remotely near this continent. Coming to research in Antarctica is the most travel Iâve ever really done.â
âDo you miss home?â Patton asks.
Logan considers this.
âSome things,â he says. âKluski, makowiec, honey mead. Newspapers written in my native language. The coffee shop I studied in throughout all of university. Proper herbata gĂłralska. My mentors. The ability to go to a grocery store. My mother.â
Thereâs a beat of silence.
âBut I love the research I do here,â Logan says firmly. âItâs a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be able to study down here.â
âIt sure seems like it,â Patton says, his admiration clear in his voice.Â
âThis whole situation threw a bit of a wrench in the works,â he says.
âI think it did for all of us,â Patton says. âNot all bad, though. Remus would probably still be on the run if he hadnât connected with Janus.â
âNo,â Logan muses, a soft flush touching his cheeks. âCertainly not all bad.â
Unbidden, images flash in his mind; black coffee, an expanse of wide sunny road, the sensation of dirt under his fingernails, purple jacaranda blossoms.
Patton tries his hardest not to grin. Butâ
âWhat,â Logan says defensively.
âNothing,â Patton says, not hiding his smile, and Logan huffs irritably.
âYou know,â Patton says, âEmileâs been dating someone in-cluster for, like, nine years? They were the first people that they saw, of the people in-cluster. In-cluster relationships are apparently pretty common, which I guess makes sense. Sharing feelings, knowledge, everythingâit sure can bond two people together.â
Loganâs flush deepens.Â
âJust sayinâ,â Patton offers cheerfully, and he goes off to join a game of hopscotch, leaving Logan with his thoughts.
JANUS
The language is different. The procedure is different. The situation is, most definitely, different.Â
Heâs used to English, English law, English crimes. Heâs been a barrister for years, jumping from one firm to another because the latter had seen partner potential in him; it paid much better, too, which certainly hadnât been a negative. Janus had become a well-polished lawyer, a viper in the courtroom, a boomslang to his rivals.Â
Heâs good at it, is his point. Heâs always been good at it.
He stands, surveying the judge. A different uniform, but a similar dime-a-dozen judge. Heâs seen this type dozens of times. He could debate them in his sleep.
But as he looks to the sideâRemus sitting, Roman beside him, the rest of the cluster in a line past them, just peeks of their profiles past the twinsâhe remembers why he started to study law, too.
Because he wanted to be able to get himself and his brother out of any and every sticky situation they could ever stumble into.
Janus stands when he is bid to. He takes the oath, Remusâs mother language tripping off his tongue like itâs his own. It is now, Janus supposes.Â
Roman reaches over and grips Remusâs hand. Remus pinches Roman as hard as he possibly can, but Roman doesnât flinch.
Janus begins smoothly, âYour honor, ladies and gentlemen of the court...â

Hello unforth! Thank you for your wonderful blog, and the the untamed art blog!! I followed you years ago for destiel, and you were one of the people that got me into the untamed. I watched it last summer and have been binging various cdramas ever since!! I had a question for you about reading. After watching the untamed I read the novel, and didnât enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I think youâre someone who prefers the show, but if not, sorry if Iâm remembering wrong⊠hoping you understand. I want to try reading other novels but I found the romance in mdzs to be kinda off. I guess Iâm wondering if you have a recommendation for the best novel youâve read so far? It would be great if itâs one with fanfic but if not Iâm still curious to try! I hope this didnât come off as rude about the untamed, itâs just a personal preference. Thanks in advance, and thanks again for all your work in fandom!
Howdy! *waves*
You have not misremembered, I definitely prefer the Untamed to the novel of MDZS (and I'm with you, no shade on people with different preferences, of course!). I also didn't enjoy the novel of MDZS as much as I thought I would, though I think some of that was because I read the Exiled Rebels Scanalations translation which - again, no shade, translating that was a HUGE job and kudos to them - but I do here from native speakers that some questionable translation choices were made, which can detract from some people's enjoyment of the novel (and can enhance other people's, it just depends how those translation choices relate to each person's personal likes and dislikes).
Now, I can tell you what I've read and what I've thought of each one, happily - I don't know what turned you off about MDZS specifically, beyond an aspect of the relationship dynamic, so it'll be hard for me to say which of these might appeal to you more? But, here's a list of which danmei novels I've read, and my opinion. The list is shorter than you'd think - danmei novels are long and I read slow, lol.
Note that all of these end happy, for various definitions of "happy," and the main ship is canon in all of them. Also note that I tried to avoid spoilers, but sometimes it's hard to even talk about the ship dynamic without some mild spoilers.
These are (roughly) in the order I've read them; I just finished the last a few days ago. All art is by the official artists, but I'm not always sure what their names are, sorry - I've tried to figure them out for my art blogs but it's REALLY hard.
1. Mo Dao Zu Shi, by MXTX.
(since I'm writing this post for you, and you're already familiar with it, I'm not putting in TW and plot)
My take: I figure knowing my opinion of MDZS will help you assess all this? There are things I loved about MDZS, including the book, but MDZS is still obviously trying to figure out pacing. Whereas in SVSSS, the storyline doesn't always flow that smoothly and the ending is rushed, in MDZS in my opinion the biggest issue is that she clearly didn't plan some things ahead. For example, Miangmian and Wen Ning are both introduced within a few pages of when they'll be needed to Do Shit. It shows that she hadn't quite worked everything out as she was going, and every once in a while was like, "shit shit I need a character for this thing" and hastily added them. The plot itself is better paced, though, though I could have wished for a less talky denouement. When it was the only one I read, I also often thought, "this author doesn't understand consent," and, "this author has kinks I don't share." Now that I've read all three of her books, I completely retract the first one. MXTX absolutely understands consent, and was intentionally playing with it in MDZS. Not sure if the evidence of that got lost in translation, or what, but...yeah.
Relationship Dynamic: ...the second of those opinions, I still kinda feel. The consensual non-con is just not really my thing, like I'm okay with it in small doses? And I don't love some aspects of Lan Wangji's domineering attitudes and Wei Wuxian's act of bare tolerating it. And don't get me wrong, now that I'm more familiar with her work, I think it was an intentional writing choice and I also think they're both largely roleplaying it a lot of the time...but I still don't personally enjoy it much.
2. Scum Villain Self-Saving System, by MXTX.
Genre: modern transmigration into a fantasy xianxia world.
Where to find it: English translation by BC Novels | donghua season 1
Trigger warnings for: graphic descriptions of suffering, non-con of the "fuck or die" variety, and body horror...I can't think of anything else rn?)
Plot: SVSSS is MXTX's first novel, and is a satire of classic stag harem novels. Shen Yuan, the protagonist and half the main ship, is reading a serialized web novel by "Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky" about a demon named Luo Binghe who has a harem of over 3,000 women and has done all kinds of ghastly awful things. He hates this novel but has read all, like, 3 million words of it or something, and trolls every chapter...until one gets him so angry that he dies...and then he wakes up in the book right around when the book starts, in the body of one of the early antagonists, a cultivator named Shen Qingqiu who abuses a young, innocent Luo Binghe physically and emotionally and, ultimately, is horribly tortured to death. Shen Yuan, in Shen Qingqiu's body, thus sets out to not be horribly tortured to death by Luo Binghe. Hijinks ensue.
My Take: In terms of my opinion of it...SVSSS secured for me that MXTX is a much more brilliant author than I thought when I'd only read MDZS. She understands tropes and subverts them brilliantly throughout the story, and from a writing standpoint, I was impressed with her. However, from a plot standpoint...she's got all the ideas but hasn't, imo, yet figured out how exactly to bring them all together. The pacing is off at times, and the ending felt abrupt to me. It's also the only danmei I've read where I ship a side ship more than the primary one (which is, of course, Shen Yuan (as Shen Qingqiu)/Luo Binghe. (also, oops...I read SVSSS after TGCF and just put them in the wrong order, oh well, not gonna change it now.)
Relationship Dynamic: In terms of relationship weirdness...it's hard to sort in that regard, because, like, it's supposed to be weird? I think it's a really interest book but I'm not sure I'd recommend it in your situation. Bingqiu's main dynamic is...uh...tolerance and obsession? They're kinda hard to describe. Shen Yuan often seems like he's just kinda putting up with Luo Binghe, whereas Luo Binghe is...god. So hard to describe, lmao. He's a big clumsy ox in a museum full of porcelain dishes and he really, really loves his Shizun. (also note that Shen Qingqiu is Luo Binghe's teacher. They don't get together until after they're not master/student, but if that's not your thing, another reason to avoid.)
3. Tian Guan Ci Fu, by MXTX.
(art is by Starember)
Genre: historical China (loosely), xianxia (note that I'm still figuring out exactly how stuff gets classified so sorry if I get one wrong, but I think I kinda get it???)
Where to Access It: English Translation by the astonishing yummysuika | manhua (this is an official translation by Bilibili! It's a few chapters behind the actual release, but still...) | donghua season 1 is on Netflix | a live action adaptation is juuuuust getting started on script reading and filing
Trigger warnings for: MCD, temporary MCD, body horror, graphic violence, epic levels of mind fuckery, uh...genocide?...again, racism/colorism, probably other stuff, sorry, I can't take as long as I'd like to for this post so I'm not being as thorough as I oughta be.
Plot: TGCF is about Xie Lian, an 800 year old man, and it commences at the moment when, unexpectedly, he ascends to godhood...for the third time. Unfortunately, when he ascends, he accidentally does some damage in Heaven, and he has to repay that, so he gets sent back to earth to deal with a ghost who's been causing some problems. Hijinks ensue...and then fucktons of angst ensue...then more hijinks...then more angst...and basically it broke my heart like four times and I am grateful for it every day? The main ship is Xie Lian and a ghost named Hua Cheng, but it's hard to even talk about without some spoilers because of some identity shenanigans. (they're VERY mildly identity shenanigans, but still).
My Take: So, you asked what my favorite of the danmei novels I've read is? It's TGCF. TGCF is one of my favorite novels ever, and it has a growing fandom, a donghua that's on Netflix, and a live action that's just starting to film. TGCF is the culmination of the skills MXTX developed through her first two works, imo. She clearly plotted it out all from the start, and while Book 1 especially often seems kind of random - lots of elements are introduced and then kinda...apparently...forgotten? And never explained? But she actually DOES bring it ALL together and it's flat-out masterful. I'm a big fan, obviously.
Relationship Dynamic: it again depends on your preferences and what you didn't like about MDZS, and there's no way to talk about it without spoilers, so consider yourselves warned. Xie Lian ascended to godhood first at the age of 17, and right around then he also saved the life of a 10 year old boy...and that boy is Hua Cheng. Hua Cheng is a follower of Xie Lian's, in that Xie Lian is literally a god, and Hua Cheng is literally one of his followers. However, they're separated for almost 800 years, so the age difference is largely irrelevant, and while some people complain about Hua Cheng's behavior being stalkery and obsessive, I honestly think they're dead wrong. It's more like when you read a celebrity/fan AU, and it starts weird, and then they really genuinely fall in love. Like, the fan may have been in love the whole time, and how they felt about the celebrity before they really met might feel slightly ooky, but it's how they act AFTER they meet their idol that matters more, and...yeah, Hua Cheng is great, they're both great, antis fight me. Xie Lian is easily one of my favorite characters EVER, he is all my favorite tropes in one horribly, wonderfully fucked up martyristic idealistic sweet kind laid back package. I would kill for him, lmao. In terms of their relationship dynamic...they love and respect each other? There's really nothing that weird about it other than the aspects of the "fan" Hua Cheng that get revealed over time - and he's always terrified that when Xie Lian realizes what a fanboy he was, Xie Lian will be upset or disgusted, but of course Xie Lian never is. They adore each other. It's glorious. Highly recommend. :D There's also no explicit content in TGCF (unlike MXTX's other two books).
4. The Husky and His White Cat Shizun (aka 2ha) by Meatbun Doesn't Eat Meat.
Genre: original world, xianxia, time travel, dimension hopping, it's so many things, 2ha is so hard to describe lmao
Where to Access it: English Translation by the amazing yummysuika (things are complicated, though, and it's not finished) | a manhua is in the works and should be out this year | a live action called "Hao Yixing" or "Immortality" is already filmed and could theoretically air literally any time cause it's completely ready, but when will it actually come? Who knows!
Trigger warnings: all of them. Literally. MCD, temporary MCD, murder, suicide, suicidal ideation, suicide attempt, rape/non-con, abuse, manipulation, gas lighting, torture, graphic violence, body horror, literal graphic onscreen horrible blood murder of a small child (I had to skip that chapter), teacher/student relationship sort of but not exactly, probably other stuff, this book is dark as fuck, and a lot of these tags apply to behavior of one half of the main ship toward the other, but...it's complicated, and there are reasons things happen, and those reasons aren't "well they're just a bad person."
Plot: This is another one that's hard to describe because there's sooooo much mind fuckery going on, but I'll try. 2ha is about Mo Ran, who rises to be the Emperor of the World, Taxian Jun, but slaughtering all who oppose him...and who is so miserable that he commits suicide, only to wake up in his 16 year old body. This is pretty much perfect from Mo Ran's point of view, because he's gone back so far that the love of his life, his fellow disciple Shi Mei, is still alive. He has a chance to fix everything that went wrong, starting with preventing his awful evil Shizun, Chu Wanning, from letting Shi Mei die.
Spoilers: the main ship in this book is Mo Ran/Chu Wanning.
Hijinks do NOT ensue. There are no hijinks in 2ha. It is all pain all the time (but I swear it ends happy).
My Take: ...well, from a structural standpoint there are some pacing issues. The book is incredibly long (over 300 chapters, over 1 million words) and there are definitely some chunks that could just be excised and it'd still be fine. However, other than that, it's pretty amazing and absolutely masterful how it's plotted. As a reader you'll spend 100+ chapters thinking you know what's going on, and who the good guys are, and who the bad guys are, and how they relate to each other...and then Meatbun starts in on revealing what's ACTUALLY going on and she then spends 200 chapters repeatedly punching you in the face! Like, I went in knowing a LOT of spoilers, because the tags were so dark that I felt that for my mental health it was important I have a general idea what was going on, and I STILL ended up sobbing my eyes out (and I am NOT an easy crier and don't usually cry at books) over something I knew was coming.
Relationship Dynamic: That's about the only thing that the title accurately conveys about this book. "The Husky and His White Cat Shizun," sounds so soft and fluffy, right? That's how they get you, ha. But, Mo Ran is absolutely a big dumb husky who wants to do the right thing (well, sometimes he does) but just completely fails depressingly often. When he sees someone he likes come in the front door he WILL jump all over them and bark in their face as his way of trying to communicate affection. And Chu Wanning is equally absolutely a cat. He is emotionally constipated, poor at expressing himself, uptight, touch starved, desperate for affection, and so lonely my chest hurts when I think about him. And for how they relate to each other...well, picture that big dog greeting a loved one at the door...except that loved one is the most hide-bound proud white cat you can imagine.
That's their dynamic.
(However, also...there are multiple timelines at play, and Taxian Jun does some truly awful things to "his" Chu Wanning in the original timeline, and many of these things are graphically described, and while it's ultimately all explained, it still all HAPPENS, so if you're going to have trouble reading fucktons of abuse between the main ship, I would not recommend this book)
5. Thousand Autumns (Qianqiu) by Meng Xi Shi.
Genre: historical China (like, references actual people, as far as I can tell), xianxia
Where to Access it: ...reading Thousand Autumns is HARD, it's split over like four websites/translators. This Carrd can kinda help? I can get you the rest if you want | donghua season 1 | I heard there's a live action in the works? But I don't know more than that.
Trigger warnings: graphic violence, mentions/threats of sexual violence (but it's all stopped before things really go wrong), starvation, description of child death (from starvation), near-death, emotional/mental abuse, major semi-permanent character injury, god, minor character death, they're major characters depending on your pov, I can't actually think of others, after writing about 2ha it feels positively fluffy). Note that there's not really any explicit content, just implications of smut, and not til basically the very end and extras.
Plot: Yan Wushi, sect leader of a demonic sect, has just come out of an extended seclusion to improve his cultivation when he and one of his disciples come across a man who is wounded to the point of near death. This turns out to be Shen Qiao, the sect leader of Mount Xuandu. When Shen Qiao awakens from his wounds, he's lost his memory, AND he's blind, and Yan Wushi decides it would be great fun and an excellent use of his time to fuck with Shen Qiao by trying to turn him evil - because Yan Wushi is certain that ALL people are inherently evil, and shattering Shen Qiao's veneer of righteousness will just help prove that.
Spoilers: it's not a veneer.
Not spoilers: Not many hijinks ensue, but there are a few hijinks, and even when it's not hijinxed, it's still not that painful...usually.
My Take: despite that synopsis, a lot of the plot of Thousand Autumns is actually political, and I like political plots, so I liked that aspect of it. However, it has some serious pacing issues imo, and it's also hard to read in English atm because it's not fully translated; it's close, now, much closer than when I read it a few months ago, so it'll be easier to read soon. Or maybe I shouldn't say it's pacing problems, but rather, it's more of a sequence of multiple major plots, strung together, with the growing relationship between Yan Wushi and Shen Qiao playing out in the background. I think if I'd known there was no "one big plot" that would have actually helped me, because it kept feeling like, "Oh, THIS is the main thing," but it never was. Things would feel climactic...except then there'd be more. So it's probably better to actually think of it as more...episodic? And the episodes/stories build, and interrelate, and do have a culmination, but not all of them directly tie in, and not all the threads end up coming together/getting resolved.
Relationship Dynamic: early on, Yan Wushi is definitely abusive and manipulative, intentionally so, and I would argue that, imo, Shen Qiao falls for it. However, mid-way through, there's some big reveals, and after that when they're reunited Shen Qiao no longer takes any shit and Yan Wushi continues to act like he doesn't care even when he clearly does. They're not a typical ship in ANY WAY, and I'd say their relationship is more founded on mutual respect than on love. Indeed, in the author's notes at one point MXS actually says they doesn't see them as the kind of couple to ever exchange love declarations, and I thought that was really interesting and it really helped me to understand how they worked together because I'll own I struggled with at times. Yan Wushi is self-interested, often cruel, and ethically and morally dubious. Shen Qiao, on the other hand, could probably ascend to Daoist godhood, he's so pure. Yet...they DO work. I'd say "opposites attract" but that's ALSO not their main trope, not exactly. They're a VERY hard ship to explain, and I know some people who've read the whole book and still don't really...get them...and I've had to really think about them to wrap my head around them...but the more I've thought about them, the more I like them.
6. Those Years in Quest of Honor Mine by Man Man He Qi Duo.
Genre: historical fiction set in either actual China or make-believe China, I'm not sure if this is directly incorporated any real people
Where to Access It: English Translation by Perpetual Daydreams | manhua (untranslated, I'm not sure if there's anyone translating it into English) | I think there's a live action in the works? Not sure beyond that though.
Trigger Warnings: suicide attempts, suicidal ideation, drug addiction, drug abuse, chronic illness (different character than the drugs), manipulation, abusive, awful parents and parental figures (not all, but definitely some), some homophobia (but way less than there could have been), probably other stuff
Plot: After 7 years away, Zhong Wan returns to the capital of the Empire with the three children of his benefactor, the seven-years-dead Prince Ning. Prince Ning was executed for treason against the previous Emperor, and Zhong Wan has done all he can to protect and raise the three kids, but he's got a lot of worries about returning to the capital and what could happen to his charges if they get pulled into the politics surrounded the Emperor. But, even worse, he's got even more worries about being reunited with Yu She, nephew of the Emperor, with whom he has more than a little history...and about whom he has been lying for the past 7 years, claiming that he is Yu She's lover, in a bid to help use Yu She's reputation to protect Prince Ning's children.
Hijinks ensue.
And so does a political nightmare.
My Take: TYQHM was a hard book to get into because there are just so many characters and it's all about politics - this is NOT a xianxia or wuxia novel, and these characters are NOT cultivators. There's basically nothing supernatural in the whole book; instead, it's about Zhong Wan and Yu She figuring out their own histories, and accepting each other, while trying to survive in a political world that increasingly wants both of them dead. However, I adore political plots, and when all was said and done I really enjoyed it, and I'm trying tooth and nail to claw other people into the fandom with me, so far with basically no success. It only has like 15 works in English on AO3. And so not only does it not fit that requirement of yours...
Relationship Dynamic: ...I think you would also probably not like the relationship dynamic? Zhong Wan is a bit like Wei Wuxian-as-Mo Xuanyu, except more...genuinely? Like, it's his actual personality, not an act, in quite the same way. I don't mean the "flamboyantly gay" part...usually...he definitely has his moments...but he's just...like, he's been through so much that he'll basically say anything, and drag himself entirely through the mud, to distract people who might hurt the three kids (they're like 16, 13, 13, now I think? It was never THAT clear to me, tbh...certainly, all are at least 10...) and, later, Yu She. He has zero face, and doesn't mind having negative face when he feels the situation demands it...and Yu She, on the other hand, has MAJOR depression issues, is sure he deserves nothing, and mostly wants to destroy everyone around him and then kill himself, at least until Zhong Wan starts giving him a reason to live again. But, more than that...Zhong Wan is like the fucking epitome of a bratty subby bottom. He wants to get fucked SO bad. And Yu She is an incredibly reluctant dom, hilariously so at times, uncomfortably/manipulative so at others. When all was said and done, I was pretty fond of them both, but there were definitely moments that made me grimace, and given what you say of how you felt about MDZS, I think this one is less likely to be to your taste?
Bonus 7: Guardian by Priest. I never finished the novel version of Guardian because the translation had some issues that caused me not to enjoy it, so I won't get into it too much, but again, Guardian is a very different book than any of the others, because it's modern fantasy(ish, like, it's still deeply embedded in Daoist-related tropes but it's more "magic spells" and less "cultivation." Like, in terms of what it's like, it felt more like Japanese modern Onmyoji style stories, to me, than it felt like the ancient Chinese wuxia/xianxia cultivation stories.). I'm not gonna get into lots of details, because I read part of the book more than a year ago, and have seen the show (which is VERY different) like three times, so I can hardly even remember what they're like in the novel. There was definitely some weirdness, though? If you're potentially interested, I'd suggest starting with the drama instead. The plot for that is...
Plot: Zhao Yunlan heads a Special Investigation Unit in the human world tasked with maintaining a treaty between humans and the dixigren ("undergrounders") who are (in the show) aliens (in the book...it's the world of the dead). While doing this job, he keeps running into this professor, Shen Wei, who definitely knows more than he oughta.
Hijinks ensue.
And then it murders you with feels.
The live action streams from YouTube - here.
(Warning: uh, I don't want to give spoilers, but my "guaranteed happy ending" does NOT apply to the Guardian TV show...but it does apply to the book, as I understand it.)
*
Anyway, this was a terrible use of my time but it was definitely more fun than what I should be doing, and it's probably way more information than you wanted or needed, but since I wasn't sure what exactly you had in mind, I figured...might as well be thorough?
(Today's hyper-focus fail: this post, ha...)
#unforth rambles#i'm not gonna tag the fandoms because i give my own opinions#some of which aren't all THAT positive#i think it's best if I don't just dump that into the main tags

Whyâd It Have to Be Hermione?
Summary: Your boyfriend and best friend suck. Based on the song Hailey by WRENN
Pairing: Ron Weasley x Girlfriend!ReaderÂ
Word Count: 2,030
WARNINGS: Swearing, cheating, angst I suppose (I don't think I'm very good at making things sad outside my own brain oops)
Same day, same night
Always feeling our fights
Like a fire in an empty house
Gone off somewhere
All I know is youâre not here
You think Iâd have learned by now
You had had a premonition that this birthday wasn't going to be as pleasant as the last three with Ron had been. Maybe it was the rain, though you usually rather quite liked the rain, or maybe it was the screaming match you were currently having with your boyfriend of four years.Â
âAre you kidding me, Ronald? It's my BIRTHDAY!â Youâd been with Ron since your days in Hogwarts, since 5th year, and he had never missed your birthday before.
âBloody Hell, Y/N, it's not like I can control it! It's an emergency meeting, I have to go.â
âYou promised we would spend the whole day together.âÂ
âAnd we will! Just not right now. I have to go.â You watch Ron grab his wand and bag and head towards the door, âIâll see you later.â
âFine. I love y-â The door slams, effectively cutting you off. âGreat. Best birthday ever.â You let yourself fall backwards onto the bed you shared with your boyfriend, âThe Dark Lord is dead. What the fuck could they possibly be having a meeting about at 6A.M.?âÂ
You stew in your thoughts, your anger slowly subsiding. Maybe you were being unreasonable. Ron was right, he couldnât control when they had meetings. You were just hurt because he always had meetings and had canceled many dates for them. You just wanted to spend your birthday with him, to have one day where he spent the entire day with you and all his focus was on you for once.Â
Eventually you sit up and mope downstairs to make yourself coffee to wake up. There was no point in trying to get a few more hours of sleep, not after a fight with Ron. They always left you feeling empty and you were left sitting alone in a desolate house.Â
It was awful. Constantly fighting with Ron about the littlest things, about the stupidest things. It had been going on for months and it was always the same. Ron would either miss a date or one of you would do the littlest thing, then youâd fight, heâd leave and go somewhere, and youâd cry yourself to sleep in the spare bedroom. He would come home eventually (he always did), though you never knew when and if youâd ask he would say he went to the pub and then things would go back to normal between you two.Â
But when you would do laundry the next day, you'd notice his clothes would never spell like the cigarettes and beers that normally came along with a trip to the pub.Â
The fights would eat you alive. For days after you would feel awful, like you were being burned from the inside out. The arguing left you feeling empty inside but as if you were on fire. You were like an empty house on fire, nothing inside to burn but the structure was slowly but surely succumbing to the flames.Â
âWhy havenât I learned?âÂ
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Ron finally came home, six hours later. There was no way in hell a meeting lasted six hours, but you were tired of arguing.Â
âHey, Baby.â Ron grins at you as he walks in and kisses you on the lips.Â
âHey!â You smile tightlipped at the man you love, âHow was the meeting?â He seemed to be in much better spirits than he had been this morning.
âIt was fine.â Came the simple response.
âOh, what was it about?â
âY/N you know I canât tell you that.â
âRightâŠâ You trailed off before you remembered your original plans for today and became excited again, âWell do you still want to go to the art museum? I want to see the new exhibit on Picasso!âÂ
âIâm tired from the meeting and I just want to relax. Iâm going to nap before dinner tonight, Babe, you go without me.â
âWhat? The whole point was⊠Okay. Fine.â You accio your wand and wallet and apparate to The National Gallery in Muggle London. âFucking piece of shit,â you stomp into the gallery, but the sight of the paintings quickly erases your anger. You had always loved art and were impressed by the skills that some people hold. You could see their passion in the brushstrokes and the feelings poured into the paint.
 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Eventually you made your way to the exhibit on Pablo Picasso. Something about his art just spoke to you, you werenât sure what it was.Â
An hour and a half later, you thought you had seen all his work encased in the exhibit until in the back corner of the room you saw it. A painting you had never seen before entitled The Melancholy Woman.Â
You stood staring at it with an air of familiarity, though this was the first time you had laid eyes on it. You realized it was because you had been sitting in the same position all this morning. After getting your coffee you had spent several hours sitting on your couch facing the window but not looking out. You instead wallowed in self-pity wondering what had happened between you and Ron that caused all the fighting.Â
âOh my god.â Faced with the reality of your own sadness you all but ran out of the gallery and to a good spot to apparate home.Â
 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
You say sheâs just a friend, well okay
Whyâs she showing up at midnight on my birthday?
Whyâs she crying in your arms looking a mess?
And youâre looking at me like you gotta confess
Not the first time you held her
You were home now and were curled up next to Ron on the couch watching your favorite movie. Ron was stroking your hair and you felt lighter than you had in months. You and Ron had had a wonderful evening at dinner, for the first time in a long time. You went to your favorite restaurant and laughed all night long, but the sense of foreboding from this morning lingered. You shook off the feeling and thought maybe your premonition was wrong and you were just being silly, nothing bad had happened after you came back from the art gallery.Â
Then the doorbell rang.Â
You and Ron look at each other weirdly, who was showing up at your house this late at night? You both pad to the door, Ron looks through the peephole and then opens the door with hesitance, âMione? What are you doing here? Itâs nearly midnight.â Hermione, your best friend since second year, looked like a mess, her hair was knotted, and clothes wrinkled.Â
The foreboding feeling that had been licking at you all night was now crashing over your entire body.Â
Hermione was crying and was well past ruining her mascara, âI... I don't know.â Then she threw herself into your boyfriend's arms and started sobbing violently.Â
You were too shocked to move. What do you do in this situation? Your best friend was sobbing in his chest at midnight on your birthday. You were about to ask if she was okay when Ron looked at you and the expression turned your blood to ice. He looked like he was about to confess something horrible to you and you knew then that this wasnât the first time this had happened. This wasnât the first time he had held her, crying and not.Â
You took a step back, shaking your head, âNo no no no no. You didnât. No-â
âY/N let me explain!â
âNo, you fucking didnât. This is a lie. This can't be real. Did you really? Are you serious? With her?â
âBaby please,â Ron untangles himself from Hermione and leaves her on the floor to approach you.Â
You hold out your hands to stop him from getting closer, âDid you even have a meeting today? Or were you just with her? Were any of these âemergency meetingsâ real or were they just excuses to go see her?â
âY/NâŠâ
The sound of your name on his lips told you everything you needed to know, âThat's what I thought.â You glare at him with more anger and sadness than he thought possible, âAnd on my fucking birthday. Fuck you, Ron Weasley.â You dash upstairs to the bedroom you once shared with your boyfriend.Â
Mascara stains dripping down your t-shirt
Now Iâm packing a bag, but I gotta ask
Out of everyone, everyone else
Whyâd it have to be Hailey?
You throw clothes blindly into an old, ratty backpack while ignoring as Ron begged you to stay. As you pack you stew in your own thoughts, wanting to scream at him, wanting to punch him in the face, stomp on his head, and just ask why.Â
âI gotta ask⊠Whyâd it have to be Hermione?â Your brain was stuck on the mascara stains on his shirt as he stood in the doorway of your bedroom. She ruined everything, both Ronâs shirt and your heart. She was your best friend, how could she? She knows how much you love him.
âW-what?âÂ
âOut of everyone, everyone else in the entire fucking wizarding world, why did it have to be Hermione?âÂ
âY/N, IâŠâ Ron trails off, he doesnât know the answer to your question.Â
âI mean I guess that explains what I heard in the back of Harry and Ginnyâs birthday card to me,â you open your bedside table drawer and take out an envelope with a card in it. It's one of those cards where you record a birthday message in your own voice for the recipient. You throw it at your boyfriend and cross your arms. When he opens it, the sound of Ginny and Harryâs voices yelling out greetings and the lyrics to Happy Birthday to You burst out. After their offkey rendition that had initially put a smile on your face, in the background there is the faintest conversation going on.Â
âAre you gonna tell her?â The first voice asks.Â
âThereâs no point.â The second responds.Â
âSheâs gonna find out eventually.â The first voice presses.Â
âI mean it doesnât matter if she does at this point.â The second voice concludes. Then Harry and Ginny finish their well wishes for you and say goodbye and that they love you. When you first listened to it you thought you were hearing wrong, but after this⊠There was no mistaking it now, those were the voices of your boyfriend of four years and your best friend of seven years.
You say that Iâve got it all wrong, but I think I know you better than myself
Donât you get tired of always playing the victim and running your mouth?
âNo, Baby, no. You- youâve got this all wrong! I wouldnât-â
âRonald, we have been together for too long. I know you better than I know myself sometimes and this is one of those times. You would because you did.â
âNo Y/N I didn't I swear!! Hermione came onto me! I love you; you know that! I wouldn't cheat on you, it was an accident, I swear!â
At this point you couldn't hold back the tears and were openly sobbing, âIt wasn't an accident, Ronald.â
âYES, IT WAS!â
âMaybe it was an accident the first time, but you chose her over me every time after that. It was a choice that you made and now you have to live with it.â And with that you shove past him, bag and wand in hand and sprint down the stairs. You pause to stare at Hermione who no doubt heard your entire conversation. âI hope youâre happy, Hermione. You got what you wanted.â
âY/N/N, Iâm so sorry-â
âSave it. I do not care what you have to say. I hope you and Ron are very happy together.â You step over her body on the floor, out the door, and out of their lives forever.
Whyâd it have to be Hailey?
Whyâd it have to be Hailey?
Out of everyone, everyone else
Out of everyone, everyone else
Whyâd it have to be Hailey?
Whyâd it have to be Hailey?

WIP fic release
In which one Madara is the manager of the black metal band called the Akatsuki and shares a History with the Mayor of Konoha.Â
@enquiringangel this might be slightly cheating as this oneâs fairly recent and I might actually continue it if my brain cooperates.Â
Madara wakes to a harrowing headache. He squints against the light, doing his best not to be sick and wishes he remembered to draw the curtains closed last night. It takes him some time to realise the pounding doesnât only come from inside his skull - someone is knocking on the door of his hotel room as well.
He lurches to his feet and stumbles to the door to jerk it open.
âWhat,â he barks âis so urgent?â
âWow, boss. You look like hell,â Obito takes a long look at him as he stands there in nothing but his boxers. âI could have lived without this sight.â
âThen go and bother someone else,â he tries to slam the door in the younger manâs face, but Obito holds it open with a hand. Madara feels too sick to fight, so he just wanders back to the bed and slumps down on it. âLet me die in peace.â
âCanât do,â Obito says cheerfully. âItâs 10 already, we need to check out in an hour and we have to discuss the next steps of the tour before.â
Madara groans and pushes a pillow against his face. He then remembers itâs a hotel pillow, and who knows when it had been properly washed, so throws it away.
âArenât you supposed to be my assistant? Do something on your own for a change. Iâm dying.â
âAre you hungover?â
âI wish I was. I hardly got to drink anything last night, as Kakuzu and Kisame got into a fight at the bar and I had to smooth things over.â
âA migraine then.â
âYou donât say.â
âWhere are your meds?â
âSmall bag in the big bag.â
Obito fishes the pills out and pours him a glass of water. He also wets a towel and handles it over to Madara, to lay it on his face. Madara likes him a bit more than he usually does in that moment.Â
He approached Madara about half a year ago, asking him to hire him. He was family - which was a good enough reason in itself to decline him in Madaraâs opinion. But he had that kicked puppy look in his eyes when the older man told him to get lost. He just couldnât go back home, he said. Not after all that happened.Â
He would have been a handsome guy, if not for the ugly scar on the right side of his face. There was some tragic love story in the background. In the end Madara was weak and offered him a job if he promised he would never again bore him with the details. He doesnât want to be involved in the woes of a twenty-two years old. He has never really gotten over his own heartbreak from his early twenties, so he was hardly a suitable person to give any advice.Â
âYou will get over it,â he told him. âOr maybe you wonât. Either way, I couldnât care less about this Rin and Kakashi, so never mention them again. Hereâs your contract. Money is shit, but then, I donât really have anything for you to do.âÂ
Obito signed without any questions and here he was now, giving Madara his painkillers, proving to be useful in the end.Â
âAre the circus freaks awake yet?â me mutters from under his wet towel.
âI heard Hidanâs yelling, so probably they are.â
âGo and check on them, wonât you? It would be great to keep the schedule for once.â
âIâm more concerned about you. Have you considered you are too old for this life?â
Madara pulls the towel off his face and raises his head with an effort to glare at Obito.
âIâm forty-seven you disrespectful little shit. Iâm not old.â
âWhatever you say, gramps. Do I need to help to get you into the shower?â
Madara scrunches the towel into a ball and throws it at Obito. It hits him on the neck with a satisfying wet smack.Â
âKeep your hands to yourself and run me through the schedule.âÂ
He gets to his feet, feeling marginally better as the painkillers start to kick in. He definitely feels the age in his back and he stretches, but he is careful not to wince as Obito is watching. He leaves the bathroom door slightly ajar, allowing the voice of his so-called assistant to carry through. He doesnât listen as he knows everything by heart, but he might as well let him play being important. Madara, as the meticulous person he is, doesnât forget the details of the tour plan. Itâs a useful trait to have for the manager of the band, although it probably would come as a surprise to the fans who remember Madara as a chaotic rock star.
He used to be quite famous, being on the stage for a good fifteen years. He had a carefully built image, with everything in the book - the sometimes sensual, sometimes rude and shocking lyrics, the wild guitar riffs, a voice that had a classical education but was put to the best use when screaming into the mic. He used to have the looks, with his long mane of hair, the wiry muscles on his chest and arms that made him look good shirtless on the stage.
The rumours, the gossip and scandals that came with that lifestyle never bothered him. They had very little foundation - outside his stage persona, Madara has always been a reserved man, but that wasnât what the fans wanted to see and in his opinion everybody was entitled to the illusions they preferred.
Madara has always been a smart man, too. As he passed fourty, all that came with the show, the tours, the gigs, the albums, the photo shoots started to get too much. So he just quit it, without any plan in place with what he wanted to do with his life.Â
He didnât enjoy retirement, but then, it lasted about two months. He was approached by Yahiko, or as he became known on his stage name, by Pain, offering him the role of the manager for his newly formed black metal band, The Akatsuki. He already had the members, he explained, just needed someone with experience in the industry to help them break through.
Madara agreed to meet the band and realised that Yahiko-Pain, with his numerous piercings, spikey carrot-red hair and well formed messiah-complex was the least weird of them all still. He thought they wouldnât last a month, but out of boredom he agreed to be their manager. It would be a laugh, he considered, some trash band with a manager who had no idea what he was doing.
Almost seven years have passed since. The Akatsuki have become surprisingly successful within their genre and Madara is still managing them. He didnât even like them - on some days, like today, he outright loathes them - but he couldnât figure out what else to do with the rest of his life.
By the time he checks out in the lobby, he feels mostly human again. The horrible migraine quilted down to an annoying, but bearable headache. He has his jacket zipped up to his chin, his hair up in a ponytail and large sunglasses covering most of his face, and nobody spares him a second glance.Â
âMadara, you fucking bastard,â Hidan, the guitarist shrieks at him when he approaches their bus. Madara doesnât even wince - he has accepted years ago that Hidan is incapable of speaking in a normal tone or without unnecessary swear words. While his skills on the guitar are mediocre at best, he is a vital part of the show. One can always count on him to be shocking, offensive and obscene. Heâs a considerable contributor to the spotlight the band gets on the media. âLast night was fucking awesome, man! The crowd just ate it all up! Where are we up next? Iwa? We will rock them! Haha! Kakuzu, you limp dick, do you get it? Rock them, as Iwa isâŠâ
âActually weâve been in Iwa half a year ago,â Obito interrupts, as he still didnât learn to just ignore Hidan. âThatâs where we started the tour, remember. Our next stop is⊠Konoha,â he looks sour and Madara makes a mental note not to sit next to him on the drive. Itâs going toÂ
be a long one and he canât bear listening to him go off about Rin-Kakashi-Rin-Kakashi-Rin-Kakashi again.
Especially as heâs not the only one upset by going back to Konoha. Itâs not the first time Madara will be back of course - he has left over twenty years ago, and the town has become too prominent to miss out on tours. He was a nervous wreck on all occasions before and heâs not sure this time will be different. Well over two decades have passed, but Madara is not very good at moving on.
They all climb into the bus, which is getting rather small or rather, their team is getting too big. The four members of the band, Madara, Obito, Painâs lethargic girlfriend slash occasional keyboardist and the âartsâ team who are responsible for everything that happens on the stage thatâs not music, from pyrotechnics to setting up equipment.
Kakuzu, their bassist, is behind the wheels as he claimed a driver is just a waste of money and the others couldnât care less about who was driving. Madara sits down next to him on the front seat as the man at least doesnât talk much. They all settle slowly, Pain and Konan in the back, so they can make out as they usually do, Hidan bickering with the blond arts kid, Kisame, the drummer, grumbling something about ergonomy as he tries to fold his tall frame into the seat. Obito sits next to him, seeming ready to start off his tirade about his bloody annoying love triangle.Â
Madara puts in some music so he doesnât have to listen to any of them and decides on feigning sleep on the majority of the trip. He can already feel anxiety setting down inside his very bones. Going home isnât something he looks forward to.
