What makes me extremely happy in this year of the Black Man is we do not need anyone's permission to continue what Marcus Garvey has started. Daddy Dashiki says it is the proper thing to do and he is a man of honor and integrity. I grant the remainder of my speaking time to my father, the most intelligent man I know. I am certain that he will never lead us down the wrong path. Here again is my Dad.

Daddy Dashiki: Thank you, David. I'll start right in. People we do not need any one's permission to want to improve themselves. In fact, in America that initiative is highly respected. What is beneficial to the Black male is wonderful for America. I have had small meetings with some of you because of the fear that this declaration that 2024 is the Year of the Black Man appears to be too frightening for America to swallow all at once. Gentlemen, No one asked for special permission to suppress our vote, send us to inferior underachieving schools and even deny us jobs when we were even more qualified than the applicant selected. We, brothers, seek not conflict or confusion, trouble or terrorism. Rather, we honor our Constitution and pursue the opportunity to better our situation and condition in our country We discussed the methods we might use to inspire and motivate our children to read more and that we as Black men have the responsibility and duty to develop strategies to assist our young men to desire and expect more of themselves. We made it abundantly clear that we are the creators of our children. We demand more of ourselves and them. We will never again shrink from the role of parent and first teacher. We don't have to explain the reason for any action we take. The Constitution, written by leaders of the country, to which we both swear allegiance requires that we start our project with a fight against ignorance. An uniformed electorate is a malignant cancer, stage 4. It , ignorance, has divided us, It has created in us the fear to act even as we witness our children fail in school through no fault of their own, are subjected to a lack of scholarly instruction and are consistently relegated to life in special education classes throughout America. Our children suffer these mis-adventures daily. It is time for a change. It is time that we relieve the pain of learning from our young people. We need to increase their opportunities for happiness and success. This is our responsibility. We choose this year 2024, to fulfill our obligations.

Thus, it begins, the struggle for equality. We start as we promised we would, with a war on ignorance. It is all about READING. The foundational literature comes from the writings of Marcus Garvey. Reading is the most powerful tool WE can possess in the war against ignorance, illiteracy. In this 2024, the Year of the Black Man, we shall explore as many genres or pieces of literature and we deem necessary to declare our children independent, liberated, fluent and competent. Does your Tav have a treasured item with them? If yes, what is it and why is it special? If no, how do they feel about item sentimentality in general?

Yes, their lute. It was lucky Envy was going to a job when they were taken from the Baldur's Gate area, because then they had their sword and lute with them. The lute was one they had saved up for and purchased while still together with Astarion, before they were forcibly separated three years ago. Envy had bought the instrument used, but it's pretty, well-cared for, and has sentimental value because Astarion helped them pick it out.

Envy's a pretty sentimental person, as is expected from a bard. They have a few other treasured items at their rented room in Rivington. They fear that those items will have been thrown out by the time they get home, since they weren't around to pay the rent.

How does your Tav feel about giving and receiving orders?

Envy gives orders easily and comfortably. They don't mind being put in a position of leadership, and would actually rather do the talking and be the "face" of the party because they know they're a smooth talker. People take them seriously because they're confident and carry themself well. Envy is also really opinionated and stubborn, so they like making the decisions for the party (though they're willing to hear and consider input from the others).

As for receiving orders, Envy doesn't do that well. They have a general dislike and disrespect for anyone in authority. If they feel someone is looking down at them, they will talk back or do something stupid in retaliation. They would probably just do what they want anyway, unless they agree that the "order" is the best course of action. But then, Envy would insist that it was their idea and they were going to do it anyway.

How well does your Tav function under pressure?

Envy thrives under pressure. They find that a sense of danger or urgency makes a task more interesting or fun. In fact, Envy tends to procrastinate or get distracted if there isn't some level of urgency to a task, which is another reason they bounce from job to job in their life before the nautiloid. They get bored easily in slow or tedious situations, so they often need a deadline or some impending consequence to light a proverbial fire under their ass.

What advice would you give to your Tav?

I think I would advise Envy to see the people around them, and realize that family is not necessarily a traditional nuclear unit with a mother and a father and a bunch of kids. They are so focused on the family they lost when they were 6 that they repeatedly fail to realize that they can make a new family from the people they care about around them. Sometimes a family is your vampire boyfriend, a nerdy wizard, a demonish folk hero, a sweetie pie barbarian, a lost lamb cleric, an angry githyanki, a few druids, a dog, and an owlbear.

What are your Tav’s intentions/goals after the end of the game?

Envy wants to take advantage of their "Hero of Baldur's Gate" status to perform and gain a solid following as a well-known bard in the Baldur's Gate area and beyond. They'd like to eventually leave the city - maybe head to Waterdeep since they know Gale there. Envy thinks a change of scenery might be good for both them and Astarion, to leave behind all the bad memories and start fresh. They figure Astarion would like it if they both became crime-fighting vigilantes of a sort, to sate his bloodlust and give him a wider menu than boars, bears, and the occasional Envy-based snack.

Along those lines, Envy also wants to adventure with Astarion to find either a cure for vampirism or at least a way for him to walk in the sun again. Envy is a little doubtful such a cure exists - especially one that would not corrupt Astarion like the Ascension would have - but they'll do anything to make Astarion as happy as he can be. After all that Astarion has suffered and worked through, Envy wants to spoil him as much as possible, to show him the happiness life can provide.

History of International Happy Goose Day

The background of International Happy Goose Day can be traced back many centuries but its origins start in the 5th century with the name Michaelmas. This day likely began in Rome when a basilica church was built and dedicated in honor of St. Michael, the Archangel. The official day was on September 30, but the celebrations began on the evening prior, which was September 29. Some church traditions also celebrate other archangels on this day, including Gabriel and Raphael.

During the Middle Ages, Michaelmas was celebrated in England as a way to mark the time of harvest as well as the time when accounts were tallied and collections were made for the year. Eventually, this turned into a time when landlords would be collecting rent from their tenants and, when they did so, the tenants began providing them with a goose so that they would secure their lease for the following year. Many historians believe this is how Michaelmas began to be called International Happy Goose Day.

But, an additional legend that associates the goose with the day is centered around the story of an Irish king who choked on a goose bone that he had eaten in a feast, and was then brought back to life by St. Patrick. In celebration, the king is said to have ordered the sacrifice of a goose on every Michaelmas in honor of the saint.
