In Germanic folklore, Hexennacht, (“Witches’ Night”), was believed to be the night of a witches’ meeting on the Brocken, the highest peak in the Harz Mountains, a range of wooded hills in central Germany. On the night of April 30 to May 1, Christians pray to God through the intercession of Saint Walpurga in order to protect themselves from witchcraft. The daughter of Saint Richard the Pilgrim and sister of Saint Willibald, Saint Walpurga was born in Devon, England in 710 A.D. into a prominent Anglo-Saxon family. She studied medicine and became a Christian missionary to Germany, where she founded a double monastery in Heidenheim. Christian artwork often depicts her holding bandages in her hand. As a result of Saint Walpurga’s evangelism in Germany, the people there converted to Christianity from heathenism. She was hailed for battling “pest, rabies and whooping cough, as well as against witchcraft.” Her monastery became an education center and “soon became famous as a center of culture”. She died in 777 and her tomb, to this day, produces holy oil known as Saint Walburga’s oil, which is believed to heal sickness - it flows from the stone slab and the surrounding metal plate on which her relics rest. Benedictine nuns distribute this oil in vials to pilgrims who visit her tomb. people continue to light bonfires on Saint Walpurga’s Eve in order to ward off evil spirits and witches. Given that witches gathered on Hexennacht, the Western Christian Church established the Feast of Saint Walpurga on the same night in order to counteract the witchcraft. Walpurgisnacht has become a type of Halloween in Germany today. It is very different to work with a deitie and to be devote to a deitie.

Anyone can light a candle, say a pray, make an offer and hope to be answered. The deitie can answer you or not, and the person can just move on.

But to be a devote demands something that not everyone is prepared to: Compromise.

Being devote means to put your life on the hand of someone else, trusting that they will make the best for you. Is called Faith. It's one of very things that make a religion: devotion.

Most of the people who get in witchcraft is running away from a religion. We want freedom, we taste the flavor and we get addicted because it feels good. But one day we back down looking for something bigger to show us our way.

And we ask ourselves: Who will?

We are working with Gods, we are learning about the Other World, and all of the things of our craft. We are not making our own way?

Somewhere inside our minds, we know that everyone needs a guide. Not a dictator, not a tiran king, not someone to rule us, but to guide us through the darkness. Sometimes not to guide properly, but to give us strength, to be with us teaching the things that we don’t see with our little minds.

It’s were we start to call our gods more than the usual. And they show us a different side of themselves because we give the intimacy to it. And when we realize, they are parts of our lives more than just a friend, who we call to help in some rituals.

We ended up building that trust that is essencial for devotion. And we start to be faithful again. That very onw faith that we are running away in the beggining.

But, don't we get in witchcraft to run away from religion? To be free?

I think that we ended up free to choose to believe again. And the most important, witchcraft is not about running away from a religion. It's a way for our souls to search for the older ones, and make one of our own.

That thing, that devotion to a deitie, is a very personal religion. One were no one can rule us and at the same time we choose who to follow. Witchcraft is make our own religion I suppose. I'm starting to think that way.

We are free to choose who we want in our lives. The gods show us their ways and we choose by ourselves, not because a parent said so, not because everybody else do so, but because we agree with that. We define our way to celebrate our religion. We define the rituals. We define how we will exercise our paganism and our believes.

That is a religion. Our religion. Inside wich one of us.

Sometimes I find myself questioning my abilities as a witch and a divinator. Am I skilled enough? Will I actually become successful and well known?

I find myself wondering that....and I mean not even for the financial gain but more for the healing aspect of my gifts. Yes... I charge because it’s a mean to feed my child and keep a roof over our head. But I love to help. I love to heal and connect.

When you have mental illnesses they really can become such a blockage sometimes. Labradorite is my always go to. Oh such a long way to go to get back up again😅

All days after the new year i am fighting my health problems. After i started feeling better - i am experiencing a new phase of my life - the one in wich i am happy and grateful for everything i have. Enjoying simple things, like being able to walk with my legs everywhere. Isn't it magical - bad thing happened to me has opened my eyes. I am grateful for this experience. I learned a lesson, dear Universe. Thank you 💗
