New review: #PracticalMagic by #AliceHoffman Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

I love the movie Practical Magic and was absolutely floored to find out just how different it is from the book!! I’d been holding off on reading the book until I’d read the prequels, since that’s just how I am, and while the book does not disappoint in its excellence, it was quite the surreal read since I’ve seen the movie at least 104 times. 😆

However, it was cool to discover this ‘new’ story, Sally and Gillian’s 'real’ story. It still revolves around Sally, Gillian, Jimmy and his death, and Officer Gary Hallet, of course. But that’s about as far as the book and the movie match…

#Spoilers to follow!! . . . . Sally’s independent, even after the death of her husband, and her girls are actually into their teens when Gillian shows up on their doorstep with her already dead psycho partner. What happens after is similar to the movie, although it all takes place at Sally’s, without the help of a big coven of friends. And there’s no floating down from the roof at the end… 😉

It IS nice to know that each sister gets the love of their lives in the end because I’d always wondered about Gillian at the end of the movie.
