Even though I read plenty of fics and have been doing so since I first started in 2021, this is the first time I actually noted down the names of the fics as I read them this month. I’m so thankful to our fandom’s wonderful writers for sharing these with us and it is because I read so many that I wanted to start noting them down so I can remember them. I was debating posting the list but fics have always been a source of comfort for me and if you feel the same, maybe these can bring you some comfort too.
🎃 The Serpent and the Lion by louiseparker @louiseparker [212k]
Seventh year Hogwarts AU in which Harry Styles is an asshole Gryffindor jock with daddy issues, Louis is just trying to get through the year, and Liam, Zayn, and Niall rarely ever know what the hell is going on.
🎃 Tainted Saints And Velvet Vices by Toomanytears @toomanydreamers [126k]
A self-fulfilling Hogwarts AU in which Louis is new to seventh year and Harry is the resident devil-may-care Slytherin set to make his entire experience a living misery. Due to less than favourable circumstances they're forced to forge an unwilling, tentative relationship for their own survival. Repressed emotions, decidedly unromantic ballroom dancing, Triwizard Tournament tasks, creative jinxes and twilight flying above the Forbidden Forest ensue.
🎃 You Drive Me Round The Bend by TheCellarDoor [77k]
In which Louis is a spoilt rich kid who’s always on the phone while he drives and Harry is a struggling musician making his way down the mountain. It’s just a matter of time before they crash and burn.
🎃 but me, i'm not a gamble by orphan_account [33k]
A Posh & Becks AU in which Harry is a star on the stage and Louis is a star on the pitch, but they're both inexplicably terrible at articulating their feelings. In the end, it only takes a season's worth of failed matchmaking schemes, platonic dinner dates, road trip holidays, and one very convenient David Beckham cameo for them to figure it all out. And if Niall knew all along? Well, he at least has the decency not to be too smug about it.
🎃 The Lone Hydrangea by sarah_writes @lightwoodsmagic [77k]
The post Hogwarts AU where Harry's a florist, Louis' a muggle who edits fantasy books, and they both have no say in how quickly they fall for each other.
🎃 The Sunshine Stays by quickedween @becomeawendybird [15k]
It's three years after One Direction got back together, and Harry and Louis have just come off a world tour. They're enjoying a much more relaxed schedule the second time around, allowing themselves to bask in married life. Until, one day, Louis surprises Harry on vacation, and there are some surprising consequences.
🎃 House Of The Rising Sun by @itsmotivatingcara [100k]
Witch Harry/Vampire Louis. The Originals AU.
🎃 Something Like This by multicoloredme [150k]
After leaving his boyfriend, Louis is a little sore emotionally and is ready for a fresh start in a new city. When a coworker tells him about a couple friends looking for a new flatmate, he decides to go for it. Little does he know, that one of his new flatmates is the gorgeous, captivating guy he met at a party a few weeks ago. A New Girl/Grey’s Anatomy/Relief Next To Me inspired AU.
🎃 Say That You Can See Me (I'll Speak Up I Swear) by @coffeelouis [20k]
The liberal arts COLLEGE AU where Harry knows Louis as the best friend of the boy he has been hopelessly in love with for years now and Louis knows Harry as the boy he wished would look away from Zayn long enough to notice him.
🎃 Don't You Think It's Boring How People Talk? by wildestdreams @thelavendrhaze [80k]
A Gossip Girl AU where Louis is the king of the Upper East Side and Harry is the bad boy he loves to hate until a late-night limo ride changes everything.
🎃 Magical Soup by gloria_andrews @gloriaandrews [28k]
Slytherin prefect Louis Tomlinson's seventh year at Hogwarts takes an immediate turn for the worse when he's made to be potions partners with Harry Styles, Hufflepuff's resident heartthrob and class clown. Louis has always considered Styles to be a terrible show-off who coasts by on his charm and good looks, but the more they work together, the more he questions that idea. As term goes on, will Louis be able to admit to himself that he might actually like Harry Styles after all... and maybe, just maybe, as more than a friend?
🎃 King Of My Heart by wildestdreams @thelavendrhaze [80k]
A Red, White, and Royal Blue AU where Hollywood elite, Louis Tomlinson, finds himself falling for the closeted Prince of England.
🎃 And What If I Were You by @jacaranda-bloom [100k]
For Louis, will losing his sight give him the clarity to realise what is right in front of him?
For Harry, will losing the love of his life give him the strength to finally open his heart?
And can they find their way back, before they lose each other forever? A story of love. A story of loss. A story of fighting for each other, no matter the odds.
🎃 Tell me when you're ready (I'm waitin') by insufferablelovebirds [17k]
When Harry's love letters to his old crushes get sent accidentally, one recipient, Louis, offers to help him fake a relationship but it gets complicated when feelings get involved.
Or an au loosely based off to all the boys I've loved before.

☀️ East of the Sun and West of the Moon: Old Tales from the North edited by Noel Daniel, illustrated by Kay Nielsen
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
A collection of Northern European folktales, taken and adapted from the original 1914 publication with art by one of the golden age illustrators- Kay Nielsen. These stories center around trolls, witches, lindworms, and magic.
This is such a lovely book that encompasses the beauty and fun of Norse/Scandinavian folktales. We’ve got classics like “Three Billy Goats Gruff” and some I hadn’t read before like “The Three Princesses of Blueland”. I liked how in the back of the book there was a note on the usage of some terms referring to Christians so, as a reader, I can understand it better.
My top three stories in this book were “East of the Sun and West of the Moon”, a total classic; “The Three Princess of Whiteland”; and “Prince Lindworm”. These stories, paired with Kay Nielsen’s famous art, were such a great combination of nostalgic storytelling. Obviously, some of the stories in this collection have some problematic themes common in many European fairytales, so I took some of it with a grain of salt.
The reason this book wasn’t Five Stars for me was only because about four of the stories became repetitive at the end and weren’t very engaging. I wish they had chosen some with differing themes and plots.

A hc of reader sister (little sister) who loves using memes sound effects to communicate with the family instead of her talk like " bruh " or " why are you running? ".
And it's fun because it makes everyone laugh.
Meme!Younger Sibling
RotTMNT & gn!reader
Warnings: swearing, platonic fluff, what you say is in green
A/N: They are meme connoisseurs, Raph doesn't understand, but is supportive. Coloring the words took way longer than I thought... I have a 6 hour car ride to the hospital so ask away!
Previous | Next
You got your taste in memes from your brothers
Leo and Donnie definitely have the most knowledge in memes
"Tight! So let me be, I'm here to give you customer service. and I'll set you free! (right)"
"Reese's Puffs! Reese's Puffs! Reese's Puffs! Reese's Puffs! Eat 'em up! Eat 'em up! Eat 'em up! Eat 'em up!"
It's almost completely random
They've learned not to ask what you're doing...
"Hey, what are you doing Waiting for them to play Gangnam Style..."
Mikey and Leo participate the most
At one point you were really into Bully Maguire memes
Raph was terrified of you
"I'm gonna put some dirt in your eye... W-What!? What did I do?"
Remember that video of the country guy standing on his truck with Nunchaku?
Yeah... That's a you and Mikey staple
"Daisy Dukes, bikinis on top. Sunkissed so hot it'll melt your popsicle!"
You, Leo, and Donnie are the most chaotic about it
Raph and Mikey are a little annoyed by the meme bond you guys have
"I got a plane! I got a plane! I love the fame! I love the fame! You know my name! You know my name!"
Being the 2 youngest, though, you and Mikey have something you will never have with the others
and that's having unlimited meme potential
"It's wizard time, motherfucker! Fire Ball!!"
Raph was very upset about this... ^^^
You are probably the only one allowed to chill in Donnie's lab because of your shared love of certain memes
He vocally stims in his lab and I have a feeling a lot of those are memes
"Wow... Your raps are too wack to handle. Let's do this like we do on the Discovery Channel!"
Leo is the one you go to if you want to recreate some dance you saw on TikTok
And he's very good... It should be a crime
Leo also quotes the Pedro Pascal edit that went around...
"How would you like to ride home on a real cowboy? I got a 6 pack of cold ones all nice and my roomies out all night, so you can scream my name as loud as you need to, sugar."
Is anyone surprised by that though?
"Aren't you excited? You're going to the airport tomorrow! Ehrpohort? I'm not going to the ehrpohort."
Although Raph isn't that knowledgeable in memes, he does know some
"Excuse me, brah. You're excused.... But I'm not your brah..."
Just random things they'd quote:
"I'm almost proud of you... That's the most proud of me you've ever been!"
"Give me back my gamer girl!"
"Material girl!"
"Just got diagnosed with cool guy syndrome... Now I take Adderall!"
"Ugh, you can't sit with us. Actually, Leo, I can't sit anywhere, I have hemorrhoids..."
"Look at all those chickens!"
"Is this an internal dialogue? I can't see the end of the horizon... Hastune Miku!?"
"Its really cute how you're going to defeat me with the power of friendship, but again, I am da Devil... From da Bible..."
"Hey~... What's up... It's me!"
"Whopper. Whopper. Whopper. Whopper. Junior, Double, Triple Whopper. Flame Grilled taste with perfect toppers. I rule- I rule this day!"
"You're an asshole, Leo. You are what you eat, Donnie." I'm so sorry...
"Freddy, you're supposed to be on lock down... VanessaAAAAAA!" When he's been working in the lab too much
"Nah, nah, nah nah. Nah, nah, nah nah, yeah. You're are the music in me! You know the words 'once upon a time' make you listen... There's a reason!"
"HOLD ON! HOLD ON! SO HER SISTER WAS A WITCH, RIGHT!? AND WHAT WAS HER SISTER? A PRINCESS! THE WICKED WITCH OF THE EAST, BRO... I'm gonna stab him..."
"Laloyd? That's right! It's me, your son! And it's Lloyd, Dad! No. L-l-o-y-d. I named you. You ruined my life! How can I ruin your life? I wasn't even there!"

I was tagged by @jouissants to answer these book questions. Thanks, friend!
An estimate of how many physical books I own: Too many and somehow still not enough! My guess is somewhere in the ballpark of 150? 200 maybe? Probably no more than 200.
Favorite author: WHO can pick a favorite. My usual answer to this is Wally Lamb, but it's been so long since I've read one of his books, I'd have to think about whether that's changed.
A popular book I've never read and never intend to read: Pretty much any blockbuster YA novel, but to pick something theoretically more in my wheelhouse: One Hundred Years of Solitude. After white-knuckling my way through Love in the Time of Cholera, I just can't do it again.
A popular book I thought was just meh: The Night Circus. That book was all concept and no execution, to me.
Longest book I own: Probably either The Stand or It, not sure which is longer. Stephen King loves to put out a crazy-long book.
Longest series I own all the books to: Stephen King's Gunslinger series, which I actually still haven't read, oops.
Prettiest book I own: My mom just bought me an edition of Anne of Green Gables that has a really pretty illustrated cover.
A book or series I wish more people knew about: Ummm I don't know, I'm so bad at ~discovering niche books on my own. Most of the time I'm reading books that are either classics or well-reviewed or talked about a lot. I guess one book I really enjoyed that I haven't heard many people talk about is The Inn at Lake Devine by Elinor Lipman. I think I saw it on a list somewhere as a recommendation for people who like the movie Dirty Dancing, and it ended up being so unexpected and really, really great.
Book I'm reading now: Just finishing listening to Lie With Me by Philippe Besson on audiobook, and I checked Weyward by Emilia Hart out from the library, but I haven't started reading it yet.
Book that's been on my TBR list for a while but I still haven't got around to it: So many, because I'm very slow at reading lately. I've started reading East of Eden approximately 20 times and never managed to finish it, so let's go with that.
Do you have any books in a language other than English: I have many, because my husband and father-in-law buy me books in other languages whenever they travel somewhere out of the country. I have the first book in The Witcher series in Polish, the first three Harry Potter books and Alice in Wonderland in Hebrew; Pride & Prejudice and Jane Eyre in French; and The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe in Japanese.
Paperback, hardcover, or ebook?: When I buy a physical book, I prefer hardcover, because it bothers me how beat-up paperbacks get so quickly. These days I almost exclusively read ebooks though. It's just so much easier to have them in my phone, and I'm out of space on my bookcases anyway, ahaha.

𓂃₊☁︎ A VICIOUS/EO VERSE. . . THE STORM WITCH OF THE EAST 𓆩 ' 𝘢 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘦𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘰𝘯
▍note: it has admittedly been a while since i have read the villains books so there are bound to be inaccuracies here that i will probably go in and edit once i get around to a re-read. that being said i don't really plan on having zoya's verse interact with the overall plot of the books outside of her run-ins with EON which is still mostly classified information. this also means that zoya's main arc takes place in a post-vicious timeline after stell conceives of EON in response to eli and victor's appearances.
⊹ CONCEPTION. growing up in the rural russian countryside zoya is scouted as a figure skater by valentin grankin at the tender age of twelve. coming from an impoverished home zoya's competition money is what kept her family afloat and she quickly becomes the main breadwinner within a few months of performing. grankin agrees to fund the young prodigy's education and training in what he sees as a sound acquisition. entering into a contract with the businessman zoya's unwittingly signs away her autonomy. the partnership does not last long before grankin begins to expect unsavory favors from his investment. after he makes an advance towards zoya she kills him while squabbling to escape and has to flee her hometown as a result.
her aunt and adoptive sister come to her rescue at the rink. escaping in a car they are pursued by grankin's security detail and they run the family off the road during a raging thunder storm. veering off course the pursuit ends in a devastating crash seemingly killing everyone in the vehicle but that is not the case. zoya dies with rain water in her lungs and rage in her heart and when she rises again she has the power of the sky at her behest. lada garin, zoya's sister technically survives as well and is later rumored to be an eo on her own right. the only victim that didn't rise again was zoya's aunt, liliyana
⊹ GATHERING ALLIES. as a teenager zoya survives off of secrets. initially she couldn't find any subtlety to her newfound abilities. she would bring rainy weather to notorious dry towns and violent winds to the most mild of villages. in time she learns that she can use her manipulation of atmosphere to bend sound waves and she begins to gather intel about other EOs via whispers. forced to move from place to place in order to avoid further suspicion this constant storming around earned her the title of burya vedma ( storm witch ). this is when she meets david and genya two eos with an affinity for technology and disguises respectively. they had followed the gathering clouds towards her and the three from a tenuous alliance.
⊹ MOVING TO THE U.S. zoya is nineteen when she finally catches wind of information in regards to lada's whereabouts. rumors of a alleged pyromancer from her hometown fittingly dubbed, the firebird. at this point zoya has amassed a coalition of EOs… a small army of sorts. she has created a safe haven from them and swears to continue her mission to protect any EOs she comes across and keep their true identities masked from the public. she takes a fraction of her allies with her when she immigrates in pursuit of her sister. she spends years on the hunt for information in her search she has amassed a network of EOs in the U.S. and internationally who become loyal to her cause. the larger her legion grows the more attention she draws towards herself. already EON agents are beginning to put out hits on her and others who are her close allies.
𓂃₊ VERSE NOTES ( TLDR )
zoya's EO abilities encompass a broad spectrum of atmosphere manipulation. as i said above she is prone to using her powers in more subtle ways to help maintain her cover. such as employing acoustic anomalies to spy on her enemies and gather intel on EOs in the area.
her more offensive skillset is reserved for emergency situations. this is the customary calling of lightning, wind and rain. the more subtle way this skillset manifests is how the temperature drops whenever she enters a room and the heavy humidity that hangs around her sometimes in thick vapor.
zoya's network of EO's can be considered somewhat of a rebel army. some of her contacts are more loyal to her than others. david and genya are her left and right hand when it comes to day to day operations. david innovates so that their home base is kept up to date in terms of defense and genya assists in spy craft with her tailoring of the human face. base of operations is roughly on the vermont/new york border in the deep forest.
in her civilian life she is currently enrolled at state university in vermont as a graduate student studying meteorology and atmospheric physics. she still a skating instructor on the side at her local rink, which is more for her own fulfillment than monetary gain. she travels often so she is only a part-timer at her current college.

2024 Reading Log, pt 5
21. Spirit Beings in European Folklore 3 by Benjamin Adamah. This volume covers monsters from mostly Slavic countries, ranging as far east as Siberian Russia and as far south as Georgia and Turkey. Some common themes of the monsters covered include vampires and revenants, many sorts of imps and familiars to steal from your neighbors with, and variations on classic Russian monsters like leshies, domovoi and rusulki. The longer articles on more studied and better known monsters, like the aforementioned domovoi, are the best writing in the series so far.
22. Afterlives of the Saints by Colin Dickey. Dickey has written some of my favorite books about paranormal culture, including The Unidentified and Ghostland, and so I wanted to give some of his earlier writing a try. This book is about saints and their cults, and how the cultural legacy of the saint doesn’t necessarily fit into either modern ideas of Christianity by the laity or orthodox Catholicism. No dog saints, sadly, but it does talk about Saint Foy, prone to violent pranks, artistic depictions of memento mori in Bartholomew and Mary Magdalene, the eroticism of art involving saints Agatha and Sebastian, and the ambivalent attitude towards scholarship embodied by saints like Gregory of Tours and Jerome. Highly recommended, especially for the state of reading I’ve found myself in lately—each chapter is relatively short and standalone, making it good for reading in pieces.
23. Crimes of the Centuries: The Cases that Changed Us by Amber Hunt. A true crime book based on a podcast? Alarm bells might be going off for some folks. But this book is a respectful look at the cases involved, especially since most of them date back several decades and are solved. The premise of the book is, theoretically, to look at crimes whose investigations, trials and legacies have had an impact on how law and society are conducted in the United States. In practice, I think it has mixed success, with the legacy material being mostly confined to a sidebar at the end of each chapter. The cases vary from ones that are common historical knowledge (the Salem Witch Trials, the Satanic Panic, the Lindbergh baby kidnapping) to ones that I hadn’t heard of but have left long shadows (like the Bath Schoolhouse bombing, the first attack on a public school). The book is fine; I enjoyed it well enough, but I’m probably never going to want to read it again.
24. The Unnatural Order of the Three Eyed Skull’s Field Guide, Vol. 4 by Andrew P. Barr. After a several year hiatus, more of Andrew Barr’s work has been collected. The death of the literary version of Barr is referred to in the foreword, and then it’s on to more monsters. This time around, the art is in full color and collected into three themes. The first chapter, The October People, includes various monsters that have been witnessed in the month leading up to Halloween, such as mutant pumpkin monsters, the candy ghoul, trick or treating aliens and even victims of the jack o’lantern virus. The second chapter details the host of slashers that attacked Camp Pine River, New Jersey, annually from 1980-89. The third chapter is a miscellany of fungal witches, monstrous invaders, cyclopean crabs and other beasties. The art is as excellent as the other three volumes.
25. Snakes in Myth, Magic and History by Diane Morgan. Another in the list of “fine, but not as good as I wanted it to be” books I’ve read this year. This look at the cultural and mythological history of snakes is pretty good, but not great. It spends a lot of page count on recounting news stories of people being bitten by dangerous snakes kept as pets. This is not a long book—190 pages including bibliography and index, and about 10 pages of that is taken up with these stories. The book could also have used another editing pass, as it makes references to other stories before they’ve been told to us. That being said, the more mythical and folkloric stuff is excellent. And I enjoy the author’s pleasant bafflement on how evolutionary biology and especially phylogenetics works. Reading the book also reminded me of a magical moment from my childhood (when a garter snake seemingly gave me a flower for my birthday), so that was much appreciated.

False Memories from My Favorite Childhood Stories
It's not uncommon for people to have false memories about movies, books, news reports. Scientists call it confabulation. When many people share the same one, it's called the Mandela Effect, after the surprising number of people who distinctly remember hearing the news that Nelson Mandela had died in the 1980s (which he didn't). Sometimes I see people misremember books and movies in ways that I know are mistakes. But just recently, I've realized that I have some confabulation of my own from childhood books and movies.
Casual racism in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland – which isn't there. When Alice thinks that she had better check the "Drink Me" bottle to make sure that it isn't marked "poison," the narrator states "...for she had read several nice little stories about children who had got burnt, and eaten up by wild beasts and other unpleasant things, all because they would not remember the simple rules their friends had taught them." But that isn't exactly what I remembered that passage saying. I wish I hadn't lost my childhood copy of the book – which I think was a facsimile of the first edition – because I could have sworn that the passage said "...for she had read several nice little stories about children who had been stolen away by g****es, and eaten up by wild beasts..." etc. (In case it's not clear, the word I've censored is the popular slur for Romani people.) When I recently reread the book and found that it said "burnt," not "stolen away by g****es," I thought that maybe this was a difference between editions of the book, since I know Lewis Carroll made revisions to the text each time it was republished in his lifetime. But though I've searched and searched online, I can't find a version of that passage with the quote I remember. The wording does vary slightly between the different editions online (i.e. "nice little stories" vs. "nice little histories," and "burnt" vs. "burned"), but not drastically. Not that I'm unhappy about that fact – on the contrary, I'm relieved that there's no casual racism in that passage after all! But I can't believe I somehow misremembered it as featuring that racist line! Is there, in fact, an edition of the book that talks about children being kidnapped by g*****s instead of being burnt? Or did I just make it up?
The fate of the ruby slippers in The Wizard of Oz. My false memory is just the opposite of the common one. Dozens of people remember that at the end, after Dorothy said "And oh, Auntie Em, there's no place like home!" either the camera panned down to reveal the ruby slippers under her bed, or else Dorothy got out of bed to reveal the ruby slippers on her feet. Of course neither of those things happen in any version of the movie, and I've never been one of the people who share those memories. But I have a different yet equally vivid false memory of my own. Until a few days ago, I was firmly convinced that during the second closeup of the ruby slippers as Dorothy tapped her heels together, just before the flashback to the house falling, the slippers disappeared from Dorothy's feet, leaving her in just her socks. I could have sworn that this was a decisive "end of the magic" moment that I remembered from countless childhood viewings of the movie. Yet I just rewatched the scene, and it doesn't happen! Maybe I somehow conflated that moment with the earlier scene in Munchkinland where the slippers disappear from the dead Witch of the East's feet. Maybe it was because I had also read the book, where the silver shoes fall off and are lost in the desert during Dorothy's flight home. But whatever the cause, the image stands out in my mind: the ruby slippers clicking together, and then suddenly vanishing, leaving only Dorothy's blue socks on her feet. I can't believe I just made that image up! Is there any place that memory might have originated from?
Mufasa's fatal crash to the ground in The Lion King. One famous case of a widely-misremembered childhood movie is Bambi. Countless people insist that when they first saw the movie, they remember seeing Bambi's mother being shot and falling to the ground onscreen. Of course this has never been the case; her death has always just been signified by an offscreen gunshot. I never made that mistake regarding Bambi. But I did make a similar mistake about the notorious death scene in the beloved "Bambi meets Hamlet in Africa," The Lion King. Until the last time I rewatched the movie, I could have sworn that after Scar threw Mufasa from the cliff and Simba cried "No!" the scene cut back to the falling Mufasa, who plunged straight toward the "camera." Then the screen abruptly went black with a loud thud. Now of course this isn't true: we don't see or hear Mufasa's crash to the ground in any capacity. But I was sure that I remembered seeing the scene end in the way I just described. I think there were probably four factors involved with this faulty memory. (1) At first Mufasa does plunge straight toward the "camera," before the scene shifts to an overhead view of his fall as he screams, and then to Simba's "No!" (2) My memory might have conflated Mufasa's fall with the crash-landing of Dorothy's house in The Wizard of Oz, which is shot in exactly the same way I remembered the former. (3) When I was little, being hyper-sensitive, I always covered my eyes during the stampede scene, so naturally it left a fuzzier impression than other parts of the movie did. (4) Mufasa's death has such a powerful emotional impact, like the death of Bambi's mother, that it's only natural to misremember it as being shown more graphically than it really is.
Maybe there is an alternate universe where the above memories are all true, as some people who study the Mandela Effect think there is. Or maybe it's all just imagination.

CHARACTER BASICS
Name: Beckett Rhodes
Age & Birthday: 49, October 27
Gender/Pronouns: cis man, he/him
Species: Witch
Birthplace: Phoenix, Arizona
Job/role: Owner of Anvil, Music Manager (bc I can LMAO)
Positive personality traits: efficient, intuitive, patient, protective
Negative personality traits: distrustful, intense, reticent, stubborn
ABOUT
Born in Phoenix, Arizona, Beck grew up the oldest of two brothers, looking out for them when he could and helping provide for their family from a young age. When he was 18, their coven was attacked by hunters and the Rhodes parents died, leaving Beck and his brothers amongst the survivors. Now their guardian and barely an adult himself, Beck took them to California, trying to get away from hunters who might be looking for them still and to a place where he might be able to find work.
He got work as a bouncer at first, before eventually moving his way to a private security firm where he began to work with stars. Through RP magic he ended up making solid connections and proving himself to have good instincts (sometimes they'd ask for his feedback or his opinions) which eventually led to him becoming a manager.
By the time he was 25, he'd begun to work with some smaller stars, gaining a reputation as a steady but discerning presence. He was able to support his brother's ventures as well, and had a solid career for several decades. In that time, he met and married Natalie (insert last name), a gallery director from New York. They were happy together and ended up moving to the east coast to be in the city near her family and Asphodel – a place she had deep connections to.
Beck's career began to taper off a bit in the late 00s, and he considered doing something new as times and music shifted. Recalling his early roots with the security firm in California, he saw a need for security to work closely with Asphodel and the talent they recruited, someone who understood the supernatural. So Anvil security was born about 15 years ago.
He still had a few music clients for a while before stopping altogether when Natalie passed away 10 years ago. Can't decide if she got sick or was killed so if you have thoughts lmk.
Anyway, he ended up spending more time with Anvil, career pivoting almost entirely until X months (or year) ago when he met Odessa. He'd heard her singing a few times at a club downtown and eventually got his card, thinking that he could connect her to some managers who'd help her career. When he went to find her, she was being harassed outside said club and intervened.
Since then, he's somehow become her manager, roommate and quasi body guard (still has Anvil). And while there are feelings there, he doesn't want to impact her career and thinks that she can do a lot more without him by her side. But obvi that's until they bangarang and admit they LUVV each other. There are tiktok reels with him and fan edits LOL which his brothers give him grief for but, ultimately, Odessa has sparked life back into him, bringing color into a gray world.

Nostalgia Rewatch: Witches Of East End (2013-2014)
Another show I haven’t rewatched in a long time, so I almost forgot how much I liked it, though sadly it was short lived with just 2 seasons. Based on a novel series (which I haven’t read so no idea how much the story was altered compared to the books) the show focuses on the Beauchamp family of witches who have all been cursed in different ways. By whom and why, that’s one of the big mysteries the show is building towards through the season.
From the tone and atmosphere, the show feels a lot like Charmed and Practical Magic with some very soapy drama, interweaving “adventure of the week” plotlines with the overarching mythology, but it’s a fun ride with some compelling witch drama and that’s mostly thanks to the 4 leading ladies and their wonderful family dynamic.
I liked all of the Beauchamps right from the start. Each have their separate personalities and backstories reflecting their individual journeys and struggles but at the same time the family dynamic and the different relationships of the four witches remain the center of the show. I never had a hard time believing they were family because they all worked so well together with both funny and very emotional moments. I especially enjoyed Joanna’s and Wendy’s interaction as mismatched sisters.
There’s a love triangle which I have never been the biggest fan of but then I didn’t really mind it that much because the show's not very good at hiding how it would be resolved. That’s one of the problems of the show - making some stuff too obvious, spelling out too much so you can smell what’s coming miles away. Like I knew who was the big bad of the season from early on though I still enjoyed the tacky over the top act and how the shifter brought in other baddies from the witches’ past lives in attempt to throw the characters and the audience off.
Another thing I really enjoyed, is the show’s focus on curses, cycles and fate, leaving you to ponder questions like how much of your fate is really in your hands and how much set in stone, predetermined and affected by past lives. Do the Beauchamps even have a chance to break their curse and if they do, at what cost?
I also really liked the ending of the season which did resolve season 1 main plotline but at the same time setting up what’s to come and hinting at even bigger mysteries with multiple cliffhangers - some people died, some people got powers and a dangerous portal got opened...
Season 2 here I come!
#nostalgia rewatch#witches of east end#i will reblogging some stuff about this show again#maybe even make some edits#not sure if there's a fandom left#but with my luck probably not
