Do you mean Law of Surprise? I’m really enjoying it too… I like Yennefer a whole lot, she’s flawed and not perfect. Henry Cavill as Geralt is super good, he’s really nailed the game-Geralt’s laconic attitude.

Yes and no - it’s the Law of Surprise, of course, but they keep referring to Ciri as “Child Surprise” - like, Mousesack did it at the court, and then Yennefer and Geralt have both called it “Child Surprise” and I think it’s funny. Like. The casserole nobody wants.

Things to Take Away from the CP2077 reviews, as a fan

It's an awesome RPG, and player choice is the heart of the game (as expected)

Playstyles are completely individualized and breed unpredictable results

The characters are points of high praise

Night City is dense, lush, and beautiful

Many agree that it was indeed worth the wait

The main questline can be completed without doing any side quests, but side quests massively expand and enrich the three reported possible endings

The writing has been highly praised

The music is amazing

Combat and driving are smooth but not mindblowing

Bugs have been reported across the board, but the majority of reviewers did not play with the Day 1 patch, and the game will likely receive many additional updates in the first month (disappointing but it happened with Witcher 3 as well)

Johnny's character development in main quests apparently doesn't carry over to side quests every time, which can break immersion

The quest log is apparently hard to comprehend

Things to Keep in Mind

The reviewers all were rushed to try and finish as much of the game as possible in just a few days' time. This is very different from the way open-world RPGs are intended to be played so of course the responses are skewed in that regard.

How many bugs will be corrected by the Day 1 patch can't be determined at this time.

Reviewers could not include spoilers in their reviews, so opinions on storylines were not fully explored

Everyone is coming to the game looking for something different. Your enjoyment is entirely dependent on what you're seeking. Take from that what you will.

Notice I said "fans". If you've got a hate boner for this game then DNI.

EDIT: It was revealed by reviewers that there are multiple flashing light sequences in the game (likely Braindance) that are strikingly similar to those used to medically induce seizures. This is a large risk for epileptic players and has already caused a grand mal seizure in a reviewer. Luckily, CD Projekt RED has responded to this and is working to implement options to prevent this (see link).

There’s a glint in Jaskier’s eyes as Geralt tilts his chin up. A soft yet imminent current is present between them, connecting them both, making them feel high like never before. The soft lighting casts beautiful curves of shadow and light all over the room, and Jaskier smells incredible from his bath salts and oils.

It all feels incredibly intimate. Too intimate for two people who have been claiming to be friends, and nothing more, for the last decade.

Geralt takes a moment to look into the blue of Jaskier’s eyes, and gets lost in them just enough to forget how they got here, but not how it’ll hurt when they have to move on from this moment.

“Geralt...”

Breaths mingled. desperate and wanting. Hands all over, warm and determined.

Just like a sailor to a siren, Geralt allows himself to finally dive deep and carelessly into the way Jaskier makes him feel, not once caring about how this will be his downfall.

7 - Raindrops on eyelashes

"Geralt, I love you."

The pouring rain and thunder weren't helpful, but Geralt was sure he heard it right.

Jaskier was seconds away from shivering with cold, and his heart rate was through the roof. Geralt could hear it even through all the white noise from the rain, and he noted how Jaskier was so close to crying.

It was a blessing and curse, to be able to see through people so easily, even when it hurt them and yourself.

It was a blessing and a curse, to note Jaskier's demeanor becoming more and more distant from a lack of response from him and knowing that if he waited long enough to say something back, he would break Jaskier's trust to a point of no return.

Geralt played it all in his mind: Jaskier turning away from him, resulting in a Jaskier-shaped whole in his life nobody else could ever fill. He saw it as a play through the future, a future more probable of becoming reality with each second Geralt stood there in the rain, frozen in time, no response in sight.

Before the bard could turn away from him, Geralt acted on instinct and took him by the arm to under the nearest roof he could find. They were both soaked to the bone, hair sticking to their foreheads and temples, dripping to the dirty floor of the stable they took shelter in.

He found himself brave and placed his hand on Jaskier's cheek.

Jaskier took a deep breath - what seemed like the first in a while and closed his eyes. As he did, Geralt noticed the raindrops on Jaskier’s eyelashes. He doesn’t know what came over him, but he leaned in and kissed Jaskier’s eyelids. One gentle, innocent kiss on each eyelid, that lingered for a few seconds. Geralt then moved slightly away to kiss Jaskier’s nose, and finally his lips.

That single, tender kiss said more than Geralt could ever say with words. He hoped Jaskier heard them all.

"Jaskier, I..."

Jaskier opened his eyes at the sound of his name. Fear and concern hid in them, as well as relief.

Silence.

“I know,” Jaskier said before he leaned in to touch his forehead with Geralt’s. With a sigh, he said once more, “I know.”

Geralt stares at his hands, silver matching rings shining through the darkness in the room. They’re plain, with no engravings, and not thick by any means. Just two simple bands, and yet they feel heavy, heavier than anything Geralt has supported with his hands, and not because of their literal weight but more because of what they could mean if Jaskier allows it.

He closes his fist, pressing hard as to not lose the courage that comes with the act he’s about to perform.

He turns, facing Jaskier -- who’s sitting on the bed, leaning against the headboard, reading a poetry book, looking beautiful as ever -- and sits on the bed as well.

Geralt keeps quiet for a while, fist still closed. He hasn’t practiced this or thought of it for more than a few minutes. He’s not an impulsive person, yet Jaskier brings out that part of him in the best way possible.

Earlier that day, when he commissioned the Jeweler for the rings, he wasn't even aware he knew Jaskier's ring size. But he did, and that made him realize this was probably a long time coming, his subconscious romantic self already hoping for it ever since Jaskier stepped a foot into his miserable life.

Geralt takes a deep breath, silver cold on his skin.

Maybe he should have bought a matching case for the rings, or found a better time to offer them to Jaskier. He feels ridiculous right now, head down, clenched fist feeling more uncomfortable by the minute, words failing him.

"Is everything ok, dear?" Jaskier says right next to him, his voice settling any anxiety that crept into Geralt's chest.

“Mmm.. yes. I have something for you.” Ever so mechanically, the words force themselves out.

Jaskier lifts his eyebrows and tilts his head a bit. Geralt recognizes that as curiosity but also doubt.

“You do? Oh.” Jaskier puts the book down, straightens up, and focuses all of his attention on Geralt. “What’s the occasion?”

Geralt gets comfortable, shifting closer to Jaskier on the bed. He’s still clothed, contrary to Jaskier who has his sleep clothes. Jaskier’s warmth grows on him, and he steals a quick kiss from him. For courage. Jaskier leans into it like he always does.

“No occasion.”

With his hands resting on his lap, Jaskier stares expectantly.

“It’s something for us, actually.”

No speculation from Jaskier’s part is needed when Geralt finally opens his fist and reveals the two unadorned, unassuming rings, one bigger than the other, right on his palm, looking inconsequential as ever.

“One for each of us, if you’d like,” Geralt adds.

A few seconds of silence, then-

“Matching rings?” Jaskier is gaping at Geralt’s palm.

The witcher clears his throat, “Matching rings.”

Jaskier finally lifts his head, gazing at Geralt. “Geralt, that’s silver.”

“I know,” Geralt says as he places his other hand on Jaskier’s thighs over the cotton sheet. He can’t help but smile, leaning into Jaskier and placing a kiss right under his ear, breathing in Jaskier’s scent, lazing on the present moment.

He can’t remember why he was nervous in the first place.

“Want to try them?”

Jaskier is still gaping at the rings, eyes wide and cheeks red. “Do I- Of course, I-”

Geralt takes Jaskier’s left hand, brings it to lips for a second, and kisses it. Jaskier scoffs at him, eyes glistening.

He watches as the ring slides into Jaskier’s ring finger. As it settles, heavy and bright grey, Geralt sees no inconsequential feature about it. It might be simple and plain, yes, but that ring carries a promise Geralt has never made before to anyone, and will never make again in his lifetime.

“My turn,” Jaskier murmurs, and takes the bigger, matching ring, and carefully places it into Geralt’s finger. “There.” He kisses Geralt’s hands, just like he did with him. “Not that I’m complaining but... do you want to tell me what this is about?”

Crossing his legs, Jaskier allows himself to lift his hand, looking at the ring in the low light of their room, getting a feel of it. Geralt feels the ring's solid presence on his left hand and fights the will to look at it just the same.

“I want to be with you.”

“You are with me.”

“I don’t want to hide it-- and I know we don’t hide, but I want people to know,” Geralt swallows. “I wanted to make you a promise.”

“Then,” Jaskier says, and slides even closer to Geralt, putting his hands on Geralt’s arms, sliding them up to his neck, “make me a promise, Geralt of Rivia.”

Geralt kisses him first, deeper and more daring than the previous kisses. Jaskier responds to it, and before they know it, he’s on Geralt’s lap, his legs wrapped around his middle, crossed on the ankles.

They’re getting carried away, heavy breathing, restless in their position, hands eager for more. The bed creaks. Geralt moans. Jaskier buries his hands in Geralt’s hair, leans back, pushing Geralt back with him.

“Forever ain’t half the time I wanna spend with you, Jaskier,” Geralt whispers into Jaskier’s lips.“But if that’s all I have, I’ll cherish you every single minute of it.”

Jaskier cradles Geralt’s face, caressings his cheekbones. The urgent energy between them fades into something much more vulnerable, fragile. Jaskier is tearing up. The tears fall shyly from his cornflower blue eyes, landing on the pillow instead.

“Spend forever with me?” Geralt asks, the question slipping from the deepest corners of his heart.

“I thought you’d never ask, dear witcher,” Jaskier answers, and kisses his forever once more, silver bands linked as they hold their hands.

Now that all three of the major characters — Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri — have more or less converged in one place, The Witcher Season 2 will become more linear. And the next time we see Jaskier rejoin the group, it will have been about six years since he sought a dragon with Geralt and Yennefer. Will he have his signature bonnet and a goatee at this point? We can only hope.

So this masterpiece is only 2 days old and y'all should head over to AO3 right now, read it and give it some love.

Why should you care:

Perfect length for an evening read, 25K. You'll read it in one sitting.

The pacing is incredible. The story will sink an iron hook into your brain because the plot is very well interwoven. Menaing that there's a really clever progress, nothing feels forced and there's VERY good foreshadowing.

If you're getting a bit tired of retelling of the show plot, fret not dear heart! Different first meeting and fresh new perspective on pivotal scenes await you here!

Geralt is the narrator and the insight into his psychology is again rather novel. You definitely have that self-loathing (it's Geralt, y'all). But his motivations, while in-character, are still fresh and interesting. That's some clever-ass writing, y'all!

Jaskier's backstory is super fucking interesting! I won't say any more on that so as not be Spoiler Susan.

The romance is for the ages ♥️

Tldr, it's great. The whump is whumpy but you'll survive unscathed. Go read it and give the brilliant, brilliant author some love ♥️

I haven't even finished the first episode of S3 Vol 2 but I want to kill Vilgefortz for what he did to Tissaia. It was so cold.

I thought he was gonna try to convince her to join him, that he was evil but did love her. Did not expect him to just drop her like that. I hope she gets to go full kill mode like Yen in S1.

i don't know how to respond without spoiling!! but vilgefortz is absolutely stone cold, if you remember in s2 we saw some cracks through his act of what was to come...

I'm so confused about time in the witcher. I thought everything was happening at the same time but then it's the witcher and Jaskier going to Calanthe and Ciri is not born yet. He met Yennefer in one ep and in the other seems that they have an on off relationship without any indication of time passing.

I know we all respect george blagden for his I will follow you into the dark cover but I do frankly think joey batey spending three seasons (!) of creative freedom on unrequited love songs directly and specifically about geralt against the wishes of the showrunner and her interpretation of his character is the new title holder of that particular shipper on deck category
