Recently, I've been thinking about reading for pleasure and reading for challenge and I remembered your answer to that ask game where you mentioned your friend's list of literature. If you feel comfortable, could you share the list?
Sure thing! This is going to get really long so... List beneath the cut.
So my friend split these into two groups: authors you must read for a masters in literature (that you will actually enjoy bc they kick ass) and books you will enjoy that kick ass. Her recs were centered on fantasy and magical realism, at my request.
Magical realism you’d be forced to read in a masters program that’s also good actually (tm) Salman Rushdie
Morrison obviously
Louise Erdrich (tho she’d prolly object to being called magical realism)
Haruki Murakami
Stuff that is Not School Stuff but Actually Good (tm):
The Witcher novels
These are the Witcher novels in order:
blood of elves time of contempt baptism of fire the tower of the swallow lady of the lake
There are also two short stories.
Kingkiller chronicles (unfinished but worth it anyway)
The entire hainish cycle by Leguin
Michal moorecock’s elric saga (as or maybe more influential than Tolkien in pop culture fantasy, why D&D exists) read this before the Witcher books maybe
Pratchett obviously
Kelly Link’s stories (all over the genre map)
Gene Wolfe shadow and claw collection
Books to Grow By
This is a combination of recs from my friend and stuff I found myself, apologies for linking out but typing it again seems redundant.
-List 1
-More on the biographies of women mentioned at the bottom of the post linked above
-More on The Left Hand of Darkness, LeGuin
-More on Beloved, Morrison and how it impacted the writing I was doing at the time, although it's embarrassing to say that bc Beloved is an absolute master class in the novel and is incomparable and I feel almost blasphemous even talking about it, except that it might inspire other people to read it, so I will talk about it!!!! In the hopes that people read it!!!! Please read it.
I haven't spoken about it yet, but I really want to add Ducks, Kate Beaton to the list. It's an autobio graphic novel about Kate, a woman from Nova Scotia who took a job on the oil sands to pay off her history degree. It gets dark fast, I would check out trigger warnings first.
This book is so packed with... So many things that I... I hate that they exist, but I really want people to see them, to know about them. I grew up in a lower middle class family on the east coast of the USA. My parents spoke about money problems constantly, so I legit thought we were poor. We were not, although my parents struggled with money their whole lives and will likely never retire and will pass away in debt.
When I was in college, I made friends with my literature pal above online. We've been friends for... God, probably about 12 years now, chatting daily online. I don't want to get into her life too much on Tumblr.com, but she actually grew up in poverty, and graciously taught me what poverty actually is. That might sound sarcastic, but it isn't at all. Sharing your life experience like that takes a lot of trust, time, and emotional energy, and it isn't something we can just... expect to be given for the sake of our own growth (ick, right??).
Like Beaton, lots of people are born in places where comfortable and lucrative jobs are not readily available. Also like Beaton, many folks earn a college degree that will almost certainly not pay for itself in terms of securing gainful employment. People in those circumstances often end up in jobs that destroy their body, their mental health, and their dignity. Class status isn't only dependent on income; it's also dependent on the type of work a family unit does. Jobs that wreck your body can pay well, but at what price?
There are a million themes and glimpses of humanity and horror in this book, I wish everyone would read it. The book was a huge success, and most libraries carry it, so try to check it out!

2022 genre bingo: Fantasy and New Adult
New update on how this challenge is going. Believe it or not I am almost done with it. I wasn't planning to read either of these books for the challenge. My first idea for the fantasy prompt was a book from the Witcher series, which I have been reading in the past year, but since I got Ariadne before a copy of that I changed my plans. With Neon Gods things were even more random, I was reading the book and saw on TheStorygraph that someone had added the novel to the new adult prompt. I then proceded to copy this random person who I don't know but I thank, because I had absolutely no idea what to read for this prompt. (Full reviews of the books linked in the titles below)
Ariadne by Jennifer Saint for the fantasy prompt
This book surprised me, I was a bit unsure about a couple of things before reading it, but I ended up enjoying it. I particularly like how the author used minor myths to make the story deeper, and create comparaisons. There is one thing in particular that I did not really like, but I talk about it in depth in the full review I posted. Overall I didn't have siper high expectations for the book, but I found it a very nice reading.
Neon Gods by Katee Robert for the new adult prompt
I ended up picking this book up because I have seen so many people talk about it, I was too curious to keep ignoring it. It's not what I normally would pick for myself, but I overall liked it. The modern setting for which I had zero expectations was actually interesting, and the writing is super fast so it worked very well for me. It's a super spicy romance in the end, so keep that in mind if you consider reading it. It's defently not the retelling, but it worked well enough as a romance novel.
With this update on the challenge I have realized that three book out of sixteen are Greek mythology retellings, and I didn't even plan that. Anyway I am surprised to be this far into the challenge. I still have to figure out a book for the contemporary genre, I was considering a graphic novel, but I am not sure at all. If you are doing the challenge let me know what you are reading for this prompt, because it might help me!

Okay, I will say that I think the show de-emphasizing the sheer level of "we want Ciri for her bloodline" in the Witcher books in favor of, idk, everyone being either like "she belongs at my side" (fuck off, Emhyr) or "I can train her on how to use her exceptional power" feels like it is maybe a little bit missing the STRONG Pro-Choice point.
#the witcher for ts#i am NOT articulate enough for this but it is a thought i am having#vilgefortz wanted to artificially inseminate ciri in the books iirc!!! maybe he's just not revealing that hand yet#but i remember a lot of the villains were about gross bloodline shit#i guess i shouldn't complain since it was all very gross. but it felt like A Point.#(the delighted laugh that busted out of me when geralt snarled that OBVIOUSLY it was milva's decision what to do about her pregnancy)#(because 'pro-life' is asinine!)#(the show wouldn't dare adapt that)#anyway#kate watches the witcher#kate reads the witcher novels#blanket book reading tag

September Book Roundup, back-to-school edition aka The Season Of Red apparently?
Here is a selection of the books I’ve read this month. Summer is over, so the little bit of brain power I had managed to scrape together is quickly disintegrating, so enjoying the hodge podge of stories.
Binti
This was probably my favourite book that I read this month. It’s a novella I first heard about hear on tumblr and went to find a copy in my library. I have since bought the collected trilogy so I can read book two and three at my leisure because it was honestly just that friggin cool. This is exactly my flavour of scifi and I tend to be very very picky about the scifi I consume. It’s about a girl named Binti, a member of the Himba people (a real group of indigenous people from Namibia). They are a people well known for their mathematical and technical prowess, but due to their strong connection to their homeland and the earth they choose not to travel through space like so many other humans do. However, when Binti secures a position at Oomza University, the greatest university in the galaxy, she chooses to go against her family’s wishes and traditions in order to set out into space to attend. Everything is ruined though when her spaceship is attacked by a hostile alien race and everyone is killed but Binti, who must rely on all her intellect and abilities if she wants any chance at survival.
A seriously cool book with great world building – it really successfully introduces readers not only to the fictional scifi world and races of the novel but also to the culture and traditions of the Himba people. It’s a quick read, and feels like a cross between Dead Space and Tamora Pierce. Would totally recommend a read.
Fake Blood
A Canadian graphic novel. It was a goofy cute read. It’s about an awkward group of friends in middle school, and one boy with a crush on one of the girls in his class. Knowing her love for vampire stories, AJ decides, like any self-respecting middle schooler, to try to pretend he’s a vampire. Naturally nothing goes right and some things go wrong in unexpected ways. It’s funny and cute. Nothing amazing but it was a cozy evening read.
The Last Book On The Left
I’ve been listening to this podcast a lot since my friend recommended it to me and finally decided to read their book. For those that don’t know, The Last Podcast On The Left is a immaculately researched comedy podcast that’s hosted by Ben Kissel, Marcus Parks, and Henry Zebrowski, and explores the darker realms of human nature. Ghosts, paranormal, aliens, cults, and of course serial killers. In this book they collected several of their biggest name serial killer series, did some renewed research, and put together a book that is both informative, irreverent, gross, and very funny, complete with some really amazing illustrations by Tom Neely. A very cool read (and listen, if you decide to check out the podcast instead), I really love how they tell these stories without idolizing or romanticizing the people they talk about. Their humour always makes sure you know exactly how much of a pathetic loser these people are. Fantastic true crime, from someone who has never really felt the need to read about true crime before.
Midnight Sun
I won’t harp on this one, everyone is already going to firmly have their opinions here. I grew up on Twilight, I was reading them as they came out, and I still love them. Were they dumb? Oh my god yes. Did they have problems? Sure, they came out in 2005 it was part and parcel. Were they also a really fun for a thirteen year old to read? Absolutely, I don’t regret it. Sometimes teenage girls should just to get like things without being mocked.
Anyway, I am off my soapbox now (can you tell this is still a raw spot for me?) I unironically loved this book! Getting to see Edward’s perspective was really cool, and since he can read minds it essentially let you get the perspective of everyone else around him too. The Cullens family is a great set of characters so it was really cool to see more of them, and I was very impressed by how Stephenie Meyers took a YA romance she wrote in 2005 and was able to make it feel updated and more appropriate for a 2020 audience even though she couldn’t actually change any of the events themselves. So fans of Twilight, don’t be ashamed, go read Midnight Sun and have the shameless fun you deserve. Is there anymore appropriate book for the bizarre ass year that was 2020 than a return to this goofy nonsense?
The Paperbag Princess
(and Up, Up, Down, and Robert Munsch in general)
I’m back in schools so I’m back to reading children’s book! And honestly, and of you that don’t occasionally sit down and read a kids book out loud don’t know what you’re missing. Anyway, Robert Munsch is a Canadian author, and one of my all-time favourite children’s authors. It surprised me to learn he isn’t as well known in the States apparently? I don’t know if that’s changed or not, but he is a Canadian staple for a good reason, his books have ridiculous premises, are specifically written to be fun to read out loud, and have beautiful, involved, and hilarious illustrations. The Paperbag Princess is one of my absolute favourites, and as a kid it was one of the first stories I had ever read where a princess is the one saving the prince… and then telling the prince to piss off when it turns out he’s a jerk. Up, Up, Down is another favourite I reread this month, because it’s just hilarious funny and makes a fantastic read aloud with kids. Some other Robert Munsch I reread this month include: Mmm, Cookies, More Pies, Ribbon Rescue, Just One Goal, and Andrew’s Loose Tooth. You just cannot go wrong, for kids or adults.
Pit Pony
Another Canadian staple while I was growing up. If you’re a young adult know who went through the Canadian elementary school system, you probably had your entire heart ripped out and stepped on by this chapter book. It’s a historical fiction that looks at the economic hardship, debt slavery, child labour, and animal abuse that was tied to coal mining in the Maritimes. Finding a copy was harder than I would have expected give how pervasive it was a decade or so back, but reading it again was a pure shot of nostalgia.
Seeking Refuge
A graphic novel written by a German-born Canadian about a Jewish girl who flees Nazi-occupied Austria by way of Kindertransport to become a child refuge in England. It follows her as she is moved from host family to host family as the war continues to pick up and gradually makes it’s way to the United Kingdom as well. It’s very poignant and the pencil-sketch illustrations are an interesting change to a lot of the graphic novels that are out right now. This story is still aimed at a younger audience, so it never gets too brutal but it still is a hard hitting story, especially with everything else going on right now.
Silver Spoon #9/10
I know I’ve talked about these books before, but my library got some more since I last read them, so I’m continuing my way through the series. It’s about a teenaged boy who, after having a breakdown from the pressure he was feeling to study and succeeded, decided not to attend an academic, urban high school, but rather to apply for an agricultural high school so he could live in the dorms, far away from his parents. The series just gets more and more heartwarming as it continues. It’s all about failure and overcoming and how worth can be measured in different ways, and about family and understanding each other and coming together… but also about the realities of farming which aren’t always very nice, especially when it comes to finances and survival. It’s written by the mangaka behind Fullmetal Alchemist but I’ll be honest… I think I like this series more. It is honestly one of my all time favourite manga series, it just has so much heart.
Ruby Finds A Worry
aka Ruby’s Worry apparently? I can’t figure out why this has more than one title. I actually read it in French not English, so for me it was Le Souci de Calie. Regardless, this was a nice little picture book for talking about worries and anxieties with children… especially with the amount of Covid stress a lot of kids are dealing with. It explains in a really nice way how talking about anxieties are often the best way to make them more manageable, and how pretending nothing is wrong can just let it grow bigger and bigger. A good explanation for kids and possible a good reminder for adults.
War of the Realms: Journey Into Mystery
I read this because the Mcelroy family wrote it so I figured Hey! Why not give it a go! And I’m glad I did. Their brand of humour was all over it, and it made the story a delight to read. I don’t follow all of Marvel’s weirdness, so I didn’t actually know most of the characters (Miles and Kate were actually the only two I was familiar with) but they do a great job of introducing the characters and making them all feel distinct and interesting. I absolutely adore the Dog of Gods (God of Dogs) who is a very very good boy. And Miles is absolutely always a delight so you can’t really lose. It’s a single book that I think is a part of a larger plotline that I have zero interest in. This book is a fine one to read though if you don’t mind jumping into the middle of the action and just getting swept along for the ride. Also Mcelroys!
Witcher Omnibus
Bleh. Absolutely not worth it. All the misogyny and Dumb Bullshit that I hate in the original books and from video games in general. Honestly, Witcher III did way better by its characters than most of these short stories. The only one worth reading in it is Curse Of Crows – that one was actually really enjoyable, probably because it was about Ciri and had an actual fucking woman on the writing team. (Seriously guys what were you thinking with Fox Children that’s literally just a story from Season of Storms but done worse. Fuck off.) If you like The Witcher, go read Curse of Crows and skip every other story in this book.
Billy Stuart: Les Zintrépides #1
Another French (Quebecois) book I read, though I believe you can get it in English as well (Billy Stuart and the Zintrepids). It’s a chapter book / graphic novel hybrid, and was honestly a fairly fun little read. It’s in a similar vein to Geronimo Stilton but done much better in my opinion. The humour was funnier, the characters felt less like caricatures, and while it still used stylized fonts it was also less intrusive and eye-strainy than the Stilton books. Also when the story suddenly pivots into the main adventure and mystery of the series? Fantastic. Was not expecting a hell-beast to appear part way through the story. Very interested in reading more.
Over all, it was cute and funny, and I can see it being a good next step when children have read their fill of the Stilton series and want something similar but possibly a bit more involved and coherent.

1-36 ALL OF EM. ALL OF EM.
THIS IS WHAT I LIKE TO HEAR, BRO. ALL FANDOMS.
1. First ship you remember
Peter Pan/Wendy Darling (Disney’s Peter Pan) is my best guess as far back as I can remember. That’s the original OTP next to Bruce Wayne/Selina Kyle (DCU) and Ariel/Prince Eric (Disney’s The Little Mermaid).
2. Your newest ship
Hmmm,,, I haven’t really watched anything new,,,,,,, but I mean I did get into Geralt/Jaskier (Netflix’s The Witcher) recently. I really like them.
3. Favourite ship ever
STARES LONGINGLY AT PETER/WENDY
I go between them and Mulan/Li Shang (Disney’s Mulan) and Korra/Asami Sato (Avatar: Legend of Korra) and Yuuri Katsuki/Viktor Nikiforov (Yuuri On Ice) and Arya Stark/Gendry Waters (GOT/ASOIAF) for my favorite ships of all time
4. Favourite m/f ship
I grew up on the His Dark Materials books and I always was a Lyra Belaqua/Will Parry shipper and that has never ever changed. They’re so sweet. I WOULD LIKE PHILIP PULLMAN TO BRING THEM IN THE NEXT BOOK THAT IS SUPPOSED TO COME OUT. DO NOT FUCK AROUND.
5. Favourite m/m ship
you really can’t wrong with Ash Lynx/Eiji Okumura (Banana Fish) except you can and I don’t care,,,, everyone’s alive and fine and not depressed,,,,,,,
6. Favourite f/f ship
do you know how much my heart broke when they refused to do Emma Swan/Regina Mills (Once Upon A Time) EVEN THOUGH everything in canon said they were True Love????? now I’m just pissed,,,,, I can’t let go of them
7.Most innocent ship
OH GOD,,, KATARA/AANG (AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER). THE FLUFFIEST. THE HAPPIEST. THE SWEETEST BABIES.
8.Most fluffy ship
WHAT DID I LITERALLY JUST SAY???
9.Most angsty ship
good god it’s Clarke Griffin/Lexa (The 100) but I still love them and I know I wasn’t THERE for Lexa dying but I’m STILL livid about what they did and how they treated the LGBT+ community and I’m gonna throw hands,,,, ever since it happened and Clexa is mentioned in the show,,, it’s always so painful,,,,, Clarke is not letting Lexa go and tbh she shouldn’t and I’m gonna get mad again
10. Most smutty ship
Smut is optional, not a requirement for my ships.
11. Ship that you would never have wanted in canon but like in fanworks
I don’t fucking trust MCU so they can have none of my ships!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
12. Character that you can only imagine in one ship
BOOOOOOOOOOOOORING.
13. Most shippable character
Merlin (BBC Merlin) and Harry Potter.
14. Character that you can’t imagine in any ship
Any character I don’t like.
15. Favourite poly ship
I love love love love Rey/Finn/Poe Dameron. Finnreypoe. Jedistormpilot. I fell in love with Rey/Finn and Finn/Poe through “The Force Awakens” and then saw in the novelization that there was hints of Rey/Poe Dameron and LATCHED onto it. Don’t even fight me with “The Rise Of Skywalker” because it was COMPLETELY a Jedistormpilot movie and that’s all I was there for. Those three characters.
16. Characters that you kinda ship but prefer as brotp FRIENDSHIP
since I think Katniss might be aroace,,, I wanna say Katniss Everdeen/Peeta Mellark and don’t get wrong,,,, I do ship but more platonic ship
17. Characters that you ship and can’t imagine to be friends
Spike himself said that Buffy Summers/Angel (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) dynamic could never be friends and only friends and he’s right
18. Guilty pleasure ship
GUILT IS CRINGE!! CRINGE CULTURE IS DEAD!!! YOU SHIP THINGS TO YOUR HEART’S DELIGHT!!!!! HAVE FUN!!!
19. Ship that you never expected to ship.
I was straightbaited by Black Sails while watching as it aired and never saw Captain James Flint/Thomas Hamilton coming,,,, or them unburying the gays,,,,, I thought the whole time Thomas and James were sharing Miranda,,,
20. Ship that you liked but don’t anymore
at one point I liked Callum/Soren (The Dragon Prince) but I’m over them and I’m over that show and I don’t support Aaron fucking Ehasz
21. Ship that one day you were thinking of and thought “wait, when I started shipping it?”
I DO THAT LITERALLY WITH EVERY SHIP I HAVE
22. Ship that you immediately fall in love with after one scene despite not considering it before.
aahhhh I saw Toni Topez interact with Cheryl Blossom from Riverdale after their confrontation which was like,,,, the first time they ever spoke to each other,,,, but then the diner scene happened, and now I ship them. And they’re canon.
23. Poly ship that you ship despite not shipping some of the characters in it outside of poly ship.
I only ship Ryn/Maddie Bishop/Ben Powell with each other. That’s it. IT’S A CANON INTERRACIAL LGBT+ SHIP. IT’S REAL. I’M SO HAPPY.
24. Biggest notp
Dick Grayson/Barbara Gordon (DCU),,,,, oooh don’t get me fucking started
25. Favourite foe yay ship
L/Light (Death Note). That’s a classic. I know Light made sure his ass was murdered but c’mon,,, c’mon,,,, THE CREDITS TO THE LAST EPISODE THO??? DID YOU SEE THAT SHIT???? THAT WAS GAY AS HELL.
26. Characters that you like in every dynamic (lovers, friends, enemies)
we gotta go with Doctor/Master (Doctor Who),,, they’ve been all three,,,,, nobody can tell me otherwise and that’s the beauty of these two! My favorite versions are 1) Thirteen/Dhawan!Master, 2) Ten/Simms!Master, and 3) Twelve/Missy and if you add Simms!Master with the last one then it’s GOLDEN
27. Ship that you expected to ship before reading/watching franchise and you do
I saw gifs and things of Anne Lister/Ann Walker (Gentleman Jack) before I started watching and I already knew I was gonna fall in love AND I DID
28. Ship that you expected to ship before reading/watching franchise and you don’t
this might be a weird one but I really thought I was gonna ship Victor Van Dort/Victoria Everglot or Victor Van Dort/Emily (Corpse Bride) and I just didn’t for either of them. I DO HOWEVER SHIP EMILY/VICTORIA EVERGLOT.
29. Favourite crossover ship
OHHHHH we gotta go with Kate Kane/Kara Danvers (Arrowverse) like look at them look at the gay it’s like SuperBat but the female millennial version
30. Favourite canon ship
Princess Bubblegum/Marceline (Adventure Time)! I’m overjoyed they are canon! I’m not done watching all of this show but still,,,,, and that means we can get Prince Gumball/Marshall Lee to be confirmed canon too?? Yes??
31. Favourite non-canon ship
I know we can’t like CONFIRM in canon but Frodo Baggins/Samewise Gamgee are in love and there’s no denying this. They’re canon enough to me.
32. Favourite ship for hurt-comfort
All of my ships are good for hurt/comfort and whump. I don’t discriminate.
33. Ship that you ship in one installment of franchise but not in other (for example in movie, but not in the book this movie is based on)
I ship Hannibal Lecter/Clarice Starling in the movies for Hannibal related things, even though Will Graham exists in them, but I ship Hannibal Lecter/Will Graham for NBC’s Hannibal 100% and won’t ship them with anyone else
34. Ship that you never expected to ship when you were younger but here you are
I never expected to ship Harry Potter/Ron Weasley/Hermione Granger all together years down the road,,,,, since as a kid I flip-flopped between Ron/Hermione & Harry/Me,,,, er,,,,,,,,, I mean Harry/My OC That Was Definitely Not Me At All and Harry/Hermione but here we are
35. Ship that you have kinda love/hate relationship with
right now it’s Rue Bennett/Jules Vaughn (HBO’s Euphoria) because they’re so cute,,, they really are,,, but they can be so bad together and I hate that! I just want it to work out but Jules doesn’t understand her own feelings,,, and is kinda fucking around with Rue’s feelings,,,,,, and Rue needs to deal with her drug addiction problems first,,,, but let’s see what happens for Season 2
36. Characters that you can’t decide if you prefer as ship or brotp
okay FIRST OFF we don’t “brotp” anything no more because the term was created with homophobic connotations so replace it with “friendship” and honestly I can’t decide if I like Lucifer/Chloe Decker (Netflix’s Lucifer) as a romantic or platonic ship or somewhere between. I haven’t decided.

expected updates timeline for @affcgato!
please note, any dates are deadlines for me to get my shit together & not hard limits.
Star Wars, p2 (redux)
I hard originally included this in p1 but apparently I underestimated how much time I’d be spending on the prequels so uh whoops. Jyn will officially be added! & I’ll start laying the ground work for Leia a little more firmly.
Expected: May - June. It’s going to take a while because after Episode III, I have no less than fourteen fucking novels to get through before I start Rebels.
Muses affected: Leia will be worked on slowly in terms of her pre-canon & original trilogy verses. Poe has skipped the queue & is officially on the multi as of this time.
Canon bracket: everything between Episode II; Attack of the Clones through Episode VI; The Return of the Jedi. ( incl. The Bad Batch, releasing May 4! )
Minor unrelated updates during this time:
The Old Guard’s newest installment, Tales will start releasing in April
The Falcon & The Winter Soldier will run from March through April.
I’ll be reading the Shadow & Bone trilogy between SW novels to give myself a break.
Loki, starting June 11.
Star Wars, p3
holy shit I am so tired send help. FINALLY I will start moving into the sequel trilogy. this will finish out Leia, & also will finally mean I can get the info for Ben / Kylo officially up on the blog JK just like Poe the fucker jumped the queue.
Expected: July/August! I finally finish Episode VI on the literal first of July, so fucking finally.
Muses affected: Leia ( will be fully finished & added ), Kylo/Ben ( will be started & hopefully finished in one go ). Poe has already been added, the fuck.
Canon bracket: everything from Shattered Empire 1-4 through Episode IX; The Rise of Skywalker, to include released books in the Aftermath trilogy.
Minor unrelated updates during this time:
Black Widow. Likely will not directly influence other MCU muses, but may provide further context for worldbuilding.
MISC muses!
this chunk requires very little in terms of me reading or watching literally anything so there’s a chance I might slip a few of these updates in between all of the others, but largely I just feel like this will be a great break after the canon marathon that was star wars.
Expected: September into October. I don’t have a concrete date for finishing the sequel trilogy, but that doesn’t have nearly the canon novel companions the others do so I should be sliding into this endeavor around here.
Muses affected: Daphne Blake, Layla Williams, & Brock Rumlow.
What it will be: Daphne, & Layla will be officially added if they haven’t snuck on already, Brock may also get an update to his Resident Evil verse. Other muses may end up with verses, if there’s a request for it.
Note: some of this might end up happening concurrent with the OG & Sequel trilogies after I finish the fourteen novel sprint immediately at the end of the prequels, it just depends on my headspace entirely.
Note: this will coincide with September 03; Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.
Reading: the only reading I’ll have during this period is the 7 short novels encompassing the Resident Evil series, & they’re relatively short. Unlike SW, I’ve also read every single one of them before so it’s mostly skimming for details.
Norah & her weird niche canon + Ersken
Despite not being an OC, Norah will be treated as such, & her information will be updated to the blog as needed while I read through The Meg series + Goliath for her, then I’m trading Sci Fi out for Fantasy & delving back into Ersken’s lore.
Expected: Full TBA. At this rate it is what it is.
Muses affected: Norah, largely, but also Ersken will get some additional lore as I re-read through two books that encapsulate some of his core lore.
other updates of note!
November 02: Queen’s Hope. potential canon update for Sabé & Leia.
December: The Book of Boba Fett
TBD: Andor
TBD: Obi-Wan Kenobi
TBD: The Acolyte
March 2022: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
May 2022: Thor: Love and Thunder
July 2022: Black Panther II
November 2022: Captain Marvel 2
2023: Rogue Squadron (SW)
TBD: Moon Knight
TBD: Secret Invasion
TBD: Wakanda series
currently unscheduled!
the witcher (s2 + novels)
shadow & bone (novels + netflix series)
a court of thorns and roses (series)
scooby apocalypse comic
kate kane comic sprint (paused)
MCU comic sprint: Tony
MCU comic sprint: Bucky
MCU comic sprint: Loki
MCU comic sprint: Steve (for supplemental info for Brock)

For the EotY asks : 5! 14! (Also the lyrics in your blog title absolutely blasted me straight back into the past, in a good way)
5. TV show of the year? To the surprise of absolutely no one, I’m going with The Witcher on this one. On the Case with Paula Zahn is close second, because I managed to watch almost 18 full seasons while on maternity leave. Oops!
14. Favorite book you read this year? So...I have not read a book this year. I feel no shame for having replaced the cheap romance novels that I use to read with fic. I read nearly every day, but it’s always fic. So I’m going to say my favorite fic this year was time to wonder, do I dare? by @norationalthoughtrequired. If you haven’t read it, give it a shot. It’s Geraskier modern au with the full ensemble cast.
“Kate” by Ben Folds Five has resonated with me since it came out (in 1997 oh boy!). There was finally a song with my name in it! I love it. Ben Folds remains one of my favorite artists, too.

🌹best advice you’ve ever had: that sounds lame but one time someone told me that i should follow my guts, and as someone who overthinks everything and doesn’t have a lot of confidence or faith in myself, it actually kind of a revelation. and i’d never heard anyone say it out loud irl and not just in a movie before lol

GETTING TO KNOW THE MUN :
NAME : zelda. NICKNAME : zel. FACECLAIM : it varies but i don’t have one atm. PRONOUNS : she / her & they / them HEIGHT : height is a social construct BIRTHDAY : september 3rd AESTHETIC : uhhhh???? too much coffee and anxiety medication ???? also soft grunge 90s punk. also also being That Bitch. LAST SONG YOU LISTENED TO : wildflowers by the wailin’ jennys FAVORITE MUSE (S) YOU’VE WRITTEN : cirilla fiona elen riannon, emily kaldwin, kate bishop.
* GETTING TO KNOW THE ACCOUNT : WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO TAKE ON THIS MUSE : honestly as much as i shit on tw3, playing tw3. my friend got it for me for christmas and it reignited my love for the series and i reread all the books again in a week. my portrayal of her is based so much on real-life experiences i’ve had, and i’ve never been able to incorporate my own life into my writing quite like i have since i started writing ciri. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE ASPECTS OF YOUR CURRENT MUSE : how absolutely ready she is to give everything her all. her self sacrificial tendencies may be seen by some as toxic to herself, but someone who is self-sacrificing to the nth degree its amazing to see characters in media who aren’t just self-centered, or who are the valiant hero type. WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION WHEN IT COMES TO WRITING : i’ve amassed this playlist that has evolved since i started writing ciri, and you can see the clear difference from when i first started writing her to now. i like to see that type of gross in some sort of physical form, esp as someone who is inspired by music in most of my life. FAVORITE TYPES OF THREADS : i love slice of life threads. the witcher is based in such a fantastical world, and we read it exclusively through the lens of a high fantasy novel, so i love writing domestic witcher lifestyle. i also really love ciri’s black cat AU. BIGGEST STRUGGLE IN REGARDS TO YOUR CURRENT MUSE : there are times where interweaving my own experiences into my writing just puts me in a bad place. that, and a lot of the witcher fandom ( not the witcher rpc ) is just......... nasty. it feels weird to write a character who’s so popular and yet their interpretation is so different from my own.
TAGGED BY : @redqheen ty bb !!!
TAGGING : @unwest @mistricked @prrowess @mergiold @putrefactie @cthlicdevil and you !!! steal it
