Tony pressed into bucky back, a quiet line of Arabic tickled his ears. Bucky held onto the hands that covered his chest right where his heart thudded.

The wind pushed the snow to cover the windows in a tinted Frost. Tony own body shudder against his snow. The first time he seen Tony react in a visceral fear, "Its like sand, softer but can still kill you."

They stay there, huddled, in covers. Coffee cups by their sides. Bucky standing guard because it calms him knowing he knows everything around him. Tony covered but his own back in the corner. A laptop in front of them.

"My sorae, I am here," he breathed out stiffly kissing the knuckles that were marred from the work he loves to do. Down to the small faint stitched up scar on the wrist.

He felt lips pepper at his back, down from the left of his shoulder were the skin met metal down to where he could reach, the largest of his scars. From. The fall.

Another line, now in sicilian warmed his ears, Bucky held Tony as both laid against the wall. Amidst the howling snowstorm. They watched the time finally tick from 16, 12, at 11:59pm over 17, 12, at 00:00AM.

Another year.

A Way With Words

This is a fill for today’s  @fluff-cember prompt  Day 23: Confessions and my @buckybarnesbingo  U5- Secret Admirer square, as well as the December WinterIron Gets It Done bookmark bingo square Handle With Care and a belated @fictober-event prompt Day 20: “I saw your eyes light up”.

Fandom: MCU/Marvel Pairing: Bucky Barnes/Tony Stark Tags: High School AU. Secret Admirer, Crushes, Confessions Summary:  Bucky gets a poem from his secret admirer; Steve has his suspicions as to who the author is.   Word Count: 550 words

“What’cha reading, there, Buck?”  Steve asked, peeking over Bucky’s shoulder.  “I saw how your eyes lit  up.” 

“It’s another note  from my secret admirer. This one is a poem.” Bucky frowned slightly.  “At least I think it’s supposed to be a poem.” 

“What do you mean?”   Steve snatched away and started reading aloud. 

You enter the room   and a magnetic pulse pulls my gaze toward you.  I fall into your orbit,  a comet facing the brightest body in my universe..

Steve raised an eyebrow.  “Well, that’s certainly… something”

“I like it,” Bucky grabbed it back, carefully smoothing out the paper.  “It’s pretty nerdy, sure, but it’s sweet.” He sighed. “I just wish I knew who it was.” 

Steve gave him a thoughtful look.  “Let me see that again.”    Bucky handed over the note and Steve gave it a closer look.   “I think I recognize this handwriting.” 

“Really?”  Bucky’s heart skipped a beat; torn between wanting to know who his secret admirer was and keeping the mystery going.    “Who is it?” 

“Let me do a bit of investigation first,” Steve replied with an unexpectedly grim look.  “Don’t want to get your hopes up.” 

“Okay.”  Bucky tried to push the whole situation from his mind; after all,  it was the end of the semester and he had papers to write and exams to take.   But the thought that one of his classmates had a crush on him was a bit of a distraction.   

Was it Carol?  She was in his advanced math  and physics class, and they had a friendly grade rivalry going.  Or maybe it was Bruce -  they were both in the science club together.   

The last person Bucky would have guessed was his secret admirer was who Steve brought over to him three days later.   “Tell him what you told me, Stark,” he said brusquely.   

Tony turned his big brown eyes to Bucky.  “I’m the one who’s been writing you notes.” 

“You are?” Bucky breathed, scarcely able to believe that the smartest and most charming guy in school was  interested in him.  “Wait, is this a joke?” 

“That’s what your pal wanted to know!” Tony exclaimed with an offended expression.   “Just because I’m the class clown doesn’t mean I’d be cruel enough to lead someone on like that.  It’s just… well …” he looked down and scuffed his foot against the ground,  “I didn’t think you were interested in guys.” 

“I didn’t think you were either. I mean you and Pepper are always together.” Bucky had nursed a bit of a crush on Tony earlier in the year, but he’d put it aside after seeing the two of them in constant company.

Tony shrugged.  “I’m emotionally needy and she’s a chronic caretaker.   We’re platonically co-dependent.” 

“I’d be happy to abdicate that role,” Pepper announced as she joined them.  “Especially if it means I don’t have to read another one of Tony’s poems.  Be thankful he went with blank verse - originally he was trying to rhyme  ‘palladium’ with ‘give you some’.” 

Bucky swallowed his laughter as his companion’s cheeks blazed red.  “I really liked what you wrote,” he told Tony as he took his hand.  “And I like you too.  Want to go see a movie together this weekend?” 

Tony’s face lit up with a broad smile.  “I’d love to.”

Hurrying was a bad idea. Bucky’s foot hits a patch of ice and slides out from under him in what would have been a comical cartoon banana-peel-like trip, if it wasn’t happening to him, and he braces himself to hit the ground. This is going to hurt.

“Fuck,” Bucky screeches, but as he lands on his back, it’s not the cold hard concrete he expected, but a solid mass beneath him. Oh god, Bucky thinks as he realises he smacked into the person behind him and took them down with him.

WinterIron Round 1 Masterpost

Hello friends, I wanted to start the year by sharing my masterlist for the @bingowinteriron round 1, for which I joined in a total of 21 creations going from general to explicit rating, getting a blackout! (and some super cool badges I attached at the end! thanks the mod team for all of this) 🧡

8 of these were Round Robin fics and this was my first time trying them out, so I’m glad I did because they were so fun! Juulna's 2022 reading stats - fics and books too!

Wow, so many statistics and so little time! Let's see... what are the most pertinent and interesting ones...? Thanks to the @fanfic-reading-challenge I got to read some pretty interesting things this year! The new one starts soon. :D

How many books did I read?

177, wow! My goal had been to read 100 (you can set a goal for yourself and keep track on Goodreads, which is awesome) so I definitely surpassed that. I used HowLongToRead to get an approximation of how many words I read in books, and it totalled 16,700,982 words. Nearly 17 million! It's actually more than my total in fics, hah.

Now let's talk about fanfiction...

In total, I read 15,832,562 words, 4,017 chapters, and 589 fics. That works out to about 26,880 words per fic on average. But what's the monthly breakdown of all that? Some of those words, chapters, and fics are ones I did not finish (yet), but I did count as finished those WiPs which I'd caught up with.

The least I read in a month was 470,293 words in April, with 22 fics read. Not even sure what was going on with me back then. The most I read in a month is actually December! I attribute that to me finishing off or at least reading as much as I can of some long fics on the back burner. Also, there were a lot of WiPs which had updates in December, and fics I'd been reading a little at a time month after month, which I finally completed. So yeah, I read 2,030,497 words in December, fairly closely followed by October. Pretty sure I was just drowning out the lack of light these last few months. :P 7/12 months I read more than a million words, and 4/12 months were over 1.5 million, plus those labelled incomplete for both those stats.

I read 137 different romantic pairings which were the main relationship(s) of the fic. I also read 49 distinct fandoms. I definitely dug into my past and some of my favourites from when I was a kid! It was quite neat, actually!

Hello everyone! While I do have a few holiday stories I'm working on, I wanted to give myself a fun holiday challenge again - to give you a gift! I’m looking for this to be in three main fandoms:

-Naruto - my main fandom, so a wide range of characters but admittedly I'm not strong in the founders era, and don't followBoruto

-Marvel - Stucky/Stony/IronPool/WinterIron are my experienced pairings as well as platonically general Avengers

-DC - Superbat, plain and simple for a pairing, but could do a range of Batman/Gotham characters for platonic

(Those are my strongest pairings etc in those fandoms, but other secondary characters/pairings are welcomed too!)

The challenge for me is that I'll basically stick to like 1-2 hours to write it/maybe stay under 4k because lordy knows I can write veerrry long ones!

For the ask game: how do you decide what fics to write?

4. How do you choose which fics to write?

I'm unsure if this means what fics to write out of all the ideas I come up with or what fics to write on a day-to-day basis, so I'll just answer both!

When it comes to deciding what ideas will move on to the next stage and actually get written, it's usually the ones that give me something new to explore or, alternatively, a challenge. I have SO many ideas and so little time (and also can't write short fics to save my life) that I have to be pretty selective. I can't just go with ideas I think are fun or exciting in the heat of the moment, but rather ones that will give me something in the long run.

It doesn't have to be something spectacular, though. Just being able to explore new characters is more than enough, which is also why my first fics in a fandom are usually set in the canon verse (if with a twist sometimes), detailed, and focus heavily on characterisation and capturing the tone and voice of the characters and world as a whole. Or at least focus on the characters and their dynamic more so than outrageous plots or AUs. Because those are the fics I choose to prioritise and write first. THEN I might branch out a little and try new things.

(The only real exception is my first Winteriron fic (Autonomy, a huge, sprawling space opera) but that was mainly because I started writing it back in December 2015, before Tony and Bucky had really had any shared screen time in the canon verse, so making it an AU just gave me more options xD)

As for choosing what fics to write from day to day, that's usually based more on my mood. I'm someone who usually finishes my fics before I post them so I can work on them at my own pace and in whatever order I choose. My readers (or potential readers) usually have no idea what I'm working on so I can usually do so without any external pressure.

That... has changed with Who Holds the Devil, though. Which means I'm honestly a little lost at times because I DO have several other WIPs I would like to work on (like the sequels to Gravitational Pull) but I feel guilty as soon as I do, since I know that people are waiting for the next update on Who Holds the Devil. And I admit I don't really like the feeling. Sometimes it's like I only have a very small window to work on other fanfics before I start feeling guilty and have to focus back on Who Holds the Devil. Which is still a delight to write, make no mistake, but, sometimes, it is definitely also a must rather than a want.

Long story short: I should definitely avoid posting WIPs if I can because they mess with my head in a way that's just not good for anyone involved x'D

F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom?

Do you mean active participation in., or from inception? Because I don't really consider myself as having left very many fandoms even if my participation in them faltered and lay fallow for a while. For active participation, Supernatural is probably the longest I've been continuously a part of, which is funny since it's the one I resisted getting into the most. From inception, though, probably Animorphs.

I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?

Tumblr actually made me dislike a fandom before I was even in it to the point that I refused to even watch the series for ten years before a crossover fanfic piqued my interest in the characters enough to go looking for more and eventually reading fanfic for it without the crossover element, and even then I resisted actually getting into the fandom until I started getting plot bunnies I couldn't ignore anymore and now I've been in the Supernatural fandom for seven years and counting. Go figure.

L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves. (Characters you’re neutral about are fair game, as are characters you merely dislike. Characters that you absolutely loathe with the fire of ten thousand suns are exempt, as there is no point in giving yourself an aneurysm over a character that you hate.)

Lucifer had the potential to be an amazing, complex character full of head-twisting theological implications of free will and the nature of angels, the incredible and infuriatingly human potential to grow beyond the limits of what he was created to be, and he deserved better than to be Bucklemming's yoyo.

V - Which character do you relate to most?

In which fandom? I don't think I could pick just one, anyway. Online quizzes have put me as "Sam-coded", if that helps?

Z - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go! (Prompts optional but encouraged.)

Gah! Every time someone asks me to talk about some unspecified "something", even with the codifier of "fan-related", my mind goes blank. I have no idea. I'm tired and need more sleep than I get and I could really use a hug. One of the best hugs I ever got was from Jared Padalecki at JAXCon in December of 2018. It was warm and solid and felt like hugging a flannel-wrapped tree, and I'm amazed my eyes were actually open in the photo op. Second to that was also the hug I got from Misha Collins that same weekend during an earlier op. Something about him, his presence, was just so incredibly calming that I felt like I had been dropped into a liminal space where a full thirty-minute meditation was compressed into one and a half seconds, and it left me feeling so relaxed for the whole rest of the day. Hugs are really nice, and those two in particular had to have hugged a LOT of people just that weekend alone, but it still felt special and briefly connecting. Good memories, and I'm glad all of us were in the right places within ourselves to make those memories. (I rather doubt I stand out in their memories at all, or at least I hope I don't, I was an awkward bean that weekend and I just hope I'm part of the more positive background blur in their minds.)

Just in Case

This is a belated fill for  @fluff-cember  Day 17: Snowed in as well as the WinterIron Discord Monthly Bingo December prompt  Snowball Fight 

Fandom: MCU/Marvel Pairing: Tony Stark/Bucky Barnes Rating: General Tags:  Established Relationship,  Romantic Getaway,  Cabin,  Snow, Fluff,  Summary:  Tony had assumed that Bucky would hate snow and cold and everything associated with winter.  He was wrong.   Word Count: 417 words 

Tony had assumed that Bucky would hate snow and cold and everything associated with winter.   He certainly hadn’t expected him to suggest they rent a cabin up in the Adirondacks for the holidays.   

“You know they’re expecting a record snowfall upstate.” 

Bucky shrugged.   “So we’ll make sure to bring plenty of food and maybe a generator.  Probably want somewhere with a fireplace, too, just in case.”

Tony found a cabin that fit the bill and made all the arrangements, including packing the back of the  SUV he’d rented full of the supplies Bucky had suggested.  They left in what should have been plenty of time to beat the storm howling in from the west, but that wasn’t the case. 

The last ten miles of their trip to the cabin took them nearly an hour and a half; it was snowing so hard Tony barely spotted the turnoff that wound through the woods and ended up in front of their new home for the long weekend.  

 While carrying everything into the snug cabin - already cozy and warm thanks to the caretaker - they managed  to track in enough snow to leave puddles on the floor.  Bucky volunteered to clean up if Tony would get the  generator prepped.   “You know, just in case.”  

It didn’t take Tony long to set everything up  - at their request, the caretaker had left them a couple of 5-gallon gas cans; In a pinch, they could power the fridge and a couple of lights for roughly a day and a half.  

The last thing he expected was to see Bucky standing on the porch with a snowball in one hand and an impish look on his face. “None shall pass!” he declared, and Tony barely had time to react before the softly-packed missile  hit him in the chest.     

“Oh, it is on, sunshine.”  Tony ducked behind the woodpile as he bent to scoop up a double-handful of ammo.  Their mock-battle raged for fifteen or twenty minutes, until they were both breathless and covered with snow.   

“Guess I shouldn’t have bothered to mop the floor,” Bucky laughed, brushing ineffectually at his sweater.  Tony joined him on the porch and shook like a dog, yelping when a bit of snow slid down the back of his neck.

“How about we get out of these wet things and slip into a nice warm tub?”  Tony suggested, waggling his eyebrows.  “Just in case the power goes out?” 

“Yeah,” Buck replied, a smirk lighting up his face, “Just in case.”
