Nice and simple, minimal haversack kit. Enough for at least a night in the woods. Light and fast, it's easy to cover ground when you aren't weighed down with too much gear.

so i applied for a DREAM JOB and out of 6000 applicants!!! I ended up in the final 15 😟
…and I did SOOOOO soooooo well til the very last round 😔 i accidentally became privy to some scathing information from the judging panel. ouuuuuuuchhhh lol my insecurities.
proud of myself for being true to myself and getting far as i did, though.
#also i got covid so feeling a bit self pitying at the moment#i honestly have massive beef with their criticisms#i left this country when i was 5 and have ended up with a lot of cultural differences#sorry English ppl reading this but i feel like the UK is very caught up on appearances. for example:#it’s an outdoorsy job and the panel were unimpressed i didn’t come in my hiking boots + wet weather gear#umm…. yeah because we are SITTING INSIDE ON A SUMMER’S DAY???#it felt like posing to me? i grew up in rural NZ so I’ve spent majority of my life in the bush#PS most of the hiking boots i did see were obviously pristine and never taken on an actual hike 🙄#yes i own that stuff. no im not gonna wear it just to prove a point. i wore jeans and the same shoes ive been wearing while hiking across#europe these last 2 months.#also the NZ wilderness is so much more rugged like these hikes in UK/europe would barely count as a casual day walk to me#so our standards are very different#and we both left feeling quite unimpressed with each other I think#i’ll provide one more rant: one of the exercises involved wiring up a plug. i did it successfully but failed cos I didn’t plug it in after#well um. my mama is a scientist and taught me not to fuck with electricity unless i’m 100% sure#yes I did all the wiring right but it was still my first time so I’m being cautious. apparently that’s a bad thing 🤷‍♀️#enough rants from me but basically yeah lots of little things like that which I disagree with

Any conspiracy theory about people going missing in National Parks is automatically silly to me. Like "Why are National Parks such a hotbed of disappearances???" because they're full of idiots. You've got thousands of people who've never pissed outdoors in their life wandering around the woods/desert/mountain with zero experience and zero gear and zero understanding that this place can kill them. You don't see as many disappearances in wild areas because people don't go to them unless they have some background knowledge. Whereas you get tour buses full of old folks and suburban families shuttling people into National Parks 365 days a year. If you took the same amount of buffoons and dropped them in the actual wilderness the disappearances would be significantly higher than at the parks. Use your brain.

Not sure what should go with you into the woods? Don't want to pack too much stuff and tire yourself out? An easy way to figure out what you do, and don't need is to think about how difficult it is to create that item in the bush.
Besides the fact you should always carry a first aid kit, alot of things can be crafted in the bush from the natural materials instead of brought with you. However, this can be incredibly time consuming, and the results are sometimes only marginal.
-Making a container is the biggest pain, so a metal water container should always go along.
-Making your own cordage is time consuming, the good stuff weighs almost nothing and packs easy.
-Making a cutting tool can be a difficult skill to aquire, and sometimes there just isn't a good rock present to break for a flint blade. I wouldn't travel in the woods without a good fixed blade. A saw is optional but it makes everything easier.
-A small tarp or poncho is great to have along for the trip. Rain, snow, bad weather, and a scorching sun can all be kept off you with one. There are light and heavy options, but they all will work. Just pick what makes the most sense for your area.
-Having ways to start a fire is a must. A ferro rod and a lighter are as easy as it gets. If your knife is made from a carbon steel, a sharp rock can be struck on the spine of it to throw sparks. You can make or collect tinder from the landscape. The more you do it, the easier it gets. Commercial tinder will work, but the vast majority of them can be made at home for much less.
The best tool is knowledge. Get out and use what you got. The more seat time with your gear, the more comfortable you'll be with carrying less. Learn what's edible in your area, learn what you can use for tinder, and learn the terrain. All those things can help you find food, fire, and water. A picture in a book telling you how to carve a figure 4 trap won't do you a lick of good when you've never carved one before and need to make one right there. Practice is the only way to make sure you'll be able to replicate something in the field.
Safe travels.

I wanna make a dnd setting where the world is made up of different demi-planes that just so happen to connect. Some planes are suitable for habitation so cities pop up there while other demi-planes are their own self contained worlds with their own lore and creatures.
The problem with travel is that each plane has to be linked via portal, but there are HUB planes adventurers can access that allows them to travel to specific planes similar to an extraplanar airport.
It’s the internet. The whole thing is internet.
