I was just thinking about this!!!
For real, though, he's always the protector. Always everyone's "big bro". He needs people to see him as a hero. Especially Chris. Could you imagine all the pressure he must be feeling? All the expectations he puts on himself? And he hides his feelings by being goofy or silly. By playing it cool or fun. But deep down, it eats him alive that there may come a day where he fails to be the hero, and someone gets seriously hurt. Or worse.
NEED ppl to make the fact Martin is so overprotective into angst more often it's so good bro 🙏🙏

Stay With Me
Summary:
Let's just say that sometimes, when you're having an atrocious night, you need that special someone to be there for you...
“Chris!” Martin called for his brother. “Chris?!”
He was nowhere to be found.
Martin was running through a forest, unlike any other forest he’d ventured in before. He dodged branches, jumped over fallen tree trunks... It seemed as though the trail would never end.
The sun was shining through the tree leaves, making his surroundings all but beautiful. Yet, it all felt so... ominous.
Finally, he slowed to a stop. He thought he had caught a familiar shade of green from the corner of his eye.
Maybe even a hint of red.
He backed up and went to take a look.
His face dropped at the sight of his brother lying unmoving on the ground, like a marionette with no puppeteer.
“CHRIS!!!” Martin cried out as he dropped to his knees.
He quickly held his little brother in his lap, and nearly screamed at the sight of blood covering his abdomen. It didn’t take long before his shirt got stained, though it was the least of his worries at the moment as he was too busy trying to put pressure on the wound.
Chris gave a faint whimper. His eyes were closed, almost in a lifeless way…
With a bloody, shaky hand, Martin felt his brother’s pulse: it was weak. Nearly non-existent.
“No, no, no- ” In a wave of panic, Martin held his brother’s face close to his. “Chris, look at me. Look at me, I’m right here!” He begged him as he swiftly brushed his brother’s hair back. He held his hand tight, heavy tears forming in his eyes.
Only two barely audible coughs came out.
“Y-You’re gonna be just fine, I-I promise!” his voice cracked hard.
What even happened? Was it a wild animal?!
“M-Martin…”
Martin gasped softly hearing his brother’s frail voice.
With the little strength he had left, Chris forced his eyes half-open, barely . He was terrifyingly pale; he had lost a lot of blood…
He met his brother’s tormented gaze and, without a word, he simply smiled bittersweetly.
Martin’s eyes grew wide.
No. This couldn’t be happening .
“Chris…” Martin shook his head, his little brother still smiling at him. “Don’t do this to me.”
Chris’ eyes began to close, his hand gradually losing grip on his brother’s.
“Chris?”
Finally, his fingers were resting on the edges of his brother’s palm.
Martin was left staring at his little brother’s lifeless face, eyes wide from shocked despair.
“Christopher…” A pained cry escaped his chest. “Don’t do this to me, bro. Come on…” He gave his body a vain shake. “No, no…” His voice was feeble, nearly broken.
With trembling hands, Martin slowly cupped his little brother’s bloody face. His poor, precious little brother . His tears began to pour down harder than they ever did. He gasped silently as he buried his brother’s numb face in his shoulder. He soothingly ran his hand through his hair, his lips pressed against his forehead. His glassy eyes wandered into nothingness as he painfully processed the fact that he was no longer there, no longer with him.
“No, no, no… Please. Please, don’t do this.”
Eventually, his sobs became louder and interminable, tightly hugging his dear little brother’s limp body in his arms, his tears falling onto his hair.
“ Oh, God. ”
He could already feel the crushing weight of grief pushing down on him, life seeming to have lost all meaning all of a sudden.
“Please, God. No…”
What would he do without him?!
His companion. His best friend.
The world around him began to spin, his tears blinding him from looking at his brother’s face. Then-
“AH!”
Martin’s head was pounding. His entire body was soaked with sweat. He was gasping for air, clenching his chest hard. His heart felt like it would burst out of his chest any moment. Tears were stinging his eyes and staining his face. Heavily disoriented, he couldn’t even make out where he was, and the darkness in the room didn’t help much.
“Martin?”
He suddenly heard him, his eyes growing wide in the dark. That voice .
As he looked to the side, Martin found a pair of brown eyes glowing in the dark. He wanted to say something, but it almost felt like his voice had been stolen. He was paralyzed .
He sensed someone getting out of bed on the other side of the room.
Click .
A night lamp was turned on.
Chris, who looked very much alive , went over to check on his brother. As he sat on the side of his bed, Martin’s eyes remained fixated on his brother’s visage.
“Hey, are you okay?” Chris asked with concern, as his brother only stared at him like he was a ghost. “Martin, you’re kind of freaking me out,” his voice cracked a little.
Martin was pale as a sheet. His eyes scanned Chris’ abdomen: no blood.
At that moment, the image of his brother’s blood-covered body flashed before his eyes.
“ AHH! ” he let out a loud, panicked CRY .
“Martin!” Chris immediately tried to calm him down.
Martin kept screaming, hot tears flowing down his face.
“HEY! Hey, I’m here. You’re okay. Breathe. Breathe.” Chris held his brother’s hands tight, trying to look into his eyes.
“I-I can’t! I can’t!” Martin was practically gasping for air.
“I’m right here, shh…” Chris slowly leaned in for a hug. He gently rocked him back and forth, just like Martin always does to him when he’s in distress.
It took a while, but Martin finally started to calm down a bit, his eyes now bloodshot from all his tears. He held onto his little brother as if the whole world was about to fall apart.
It was a miracle that none of the crew members had woken up so far. (Although Jimmy could be cast aside for that.) It had been a long day, after all.
Chris subconsciously slid into bed, his brother’s arms locked around him as though he was a treasured possession.
In a way, he was .
Chris tried to get his brother to lie down. He could hear his heart pounding hard; he frowned. His brother’s tears had really soaked his hair. Nonetheless, he didn’t mind. The bed was shaking from his brother’s agitation.
Several minutes later, Martin let out a prolonged, heavy and shaky sigh. He sniffled as he wiped his face in his pillow before taking a deep breath.
“Sorry- I-I’m so sorry- ” his voice was terribly raspy.
“Hey, it’s okay.” Chris rubbed his back comfortingly. “I’ll go get you some water.”
As soon as he shifted to get up, Martin instinctively locked his hand on his brother’s wrist like a handcuff.
“ NO! ”
Chris nearly jumped at his reaction. He looked down at his brother’s pleading eyes, his hand tightening on his wrist so hard that he winced from the pain.
“Martin?” Chris’ brows furrowed.
“S-Stay with me,” Martin begged.
Reading his brother’s eyes, Chris understood. “Okay, then. I’ll help you get to the main room and grab a glass of water,” he suggested with a tender tone.
Martin scanned his brother’s eyes deeply, and with the soreness in his throat, it was all enough to convince him. He gave a small, quivery nod.
Carefully, Chris reached out two hands, one to hold his brother’s, and the other wrapped around him for stability.
Martin’s knees were trembling so hard, doing an incredible job at making the trip from the brothers’ room to the main room a challenge of its own. He felt weak, so close to just collapsing onto the floor right then and there. Despite the fact that his brother was heavier than him, Chris was determined to support his weight as much as he could.
When they made it to the main room, Chris led his brother to the center table where he could rest while he went over to the sink to fill him up a glass of water.
That small, insignificant distance between the sink and where Martin was sitting were enough to make him dreadful to the core. He couldn’t even swallow anymore. His shoulders were tense. He kept his drowsy eyes on his little brother, refusing to even blink , fearing that in that minuscule fraction of time, he would just vanish into thin air.
He watched as Chris brought him a glass full of refreshing water before sitting next to him. It took him a few seconds before having a good hold of the glass; his hands were still a bit shaky. But the cool liquid was all but soothing for his throat, making that small “trip” all worth it.
Putting the glass down, Martin sighed heavily. “Thanks,” he whispered.
Chris put a hand on his shoulder and, thanks to the bit of moonlight shining through the rooftop, Martin was able to see his smile. A smile he wouldn’t trade for the whole world.
“Let’s get you back to bed,” Chris finally said in a hushed tone.
Without another word, he accompanied his older brother back to their room, Martin seeming a little less shaken. Regardless of how small the change was, it made Chris feel a little at ease.
Once they made it back, Martin lay down in bed, refusing to let go of his brother who had no choice but to stay by his side. He ran his hand through Chris’ hair as a coping mechanism of some sort, cherishing each second of it. Normally, Chris would be giving him a hard time for touching his hair, but this was an exception he was more than willing to make.
Silence.
“You wanna… talk about it?”
Martin’s heart skipped a beat. He shook his head hard, tightening his arms around his little brother.
Chris sighed. “You don’t have to... But it might help you feel better?” His voice was calm and soothing.
Martin swallowed hard.
“I- ” he found it hard to talk. His eyes began to water again. “I’m just glad you’re here. With me .” He pulled Chris even closer.
Chris felt another tear fall on his hair. His brother’s words deeply perturbed him. He remained silent, snuggling deeper into the embrace.
All through the night, Martin was almost certain he’d never be able to go back to sleep. But Chris refused to fall asleep before he did. He could tell Martin was fighting to keep his eyes open.
“You need sleep, bro,” Chris finally said.
Martin didn’t say anything.
“I was running in a forest,” he suddenly started.
Chris was all ears.
“And I was looking for you…” His voice was getting more shaky with each word. “And when I found you- ” A small squeak escaped his throat. “You- ” He swallowed hard. “Y-You were- ” He began to tremble again, sounding as though he would burst into tears once more.
Chris could feel his fingers digging into his shirt and arms. “Hey, it’s okay. Everything’s okay now.” He brushed his hand against his brother’s agonized face. “Whatever happened to me, just know it was never real.” He looked up to find tears already seeping through the corners of his brother’s eyes.
“But i-it felt so real ,” Martin’s lips were shaking badly. He never sounded so scared, so vulnerable.
It almost made Chris burst into tears.
“Hey, look at me.” Chris held his face and looked deep into his eyes. “I’m not going anywhere, you hear me?” His voice was comforting and reassuring. “When you wake up, you’ll find me right here.”
Martin looked down at his brother for the longest time, sensing the sincerity in his eyes. “Promise?” He gave him a longing look.
Chris caressed his hand. “I promise.”
With a tear-stained face, Martin gave him a somewhat relaxed smile. “Okay.” He seemed a little pensive.
After a while longer, Martin finally yawned. “Thanks, Chris.” He gently rubbed his face against his little brother’s hair, scooching as close as possible.
It didn’t take long before Martin gave in as he was drifting back to sleep.
Soon, Chris could hear him snoring softly. With a tired smile, he carefully pulled the blanket over them both, his brother’s arms strongly locked around him.
Chris hid his face in his brother’s shoulder and curled into a little ball, Martin now seeming at peace for the first time since he’d woken up.
At last, Chris closed his eyes, and whispered, “Good night, big bro.”

The angst is STRONG! I love it!
Tumblr media
(Click for better quality)
Not sure what I think about this one but if I try to work more on it I'll go insane so-
Worried/Protective Older Brother Martin is my serotonin.
This will happen again, probably
Tiny little scene:
The forest seemed to grow each second more that they were there, left alone in the dark, the unknown, only with distant sounds of nocturnal animals and the wind softly shaking the folliage to keep them company. They seemed to be out of danger for now, but, for how long?
But that was far from the biggest issue plaguing his mind at the moment.
No, what was gnawing at his brain like a carnivore to fresh meat was the fact that, well, he was the oldest, right? It was his job to keep them safe. It was his job to guide the way and make sure his little brother was kept away from harm.
Then why was Chris the one bleeding right now?
Why was Chris the one who jumped into action to protect him?
Why was Chris the one who got the worst of it?
He couldn't stop blaming himself. If he hadn't been so distracted goofing off he could have-
A weak groan pulled him off of his thoughts. The green-dressed brother seemed to be floating in and out of counciousness, eyes unfocused, but luckily he still seemed to hear the older one, even managing to answer in a quiet, hoarse voice, so different from his usual tone. He made Chris promise he'd never try a dangerous stunt like that again, but knowing his brother, he knew it was hopeless.
He couldn't exactly say he wouldn't do the same, in his place.
Even with the dread and the fear and the guilt, he still found a place in his heart to be so overwhelmingly proud and thankful of the youngest. He was so brave the whole time... even if it was very stupid as well. But in the deep end, they'd both be dead if it wasn't for him.
And he just knew deep down that Chris wouldn't blame him at all at the end of the day.
And maybe that only made things worse.
But for now, the least he could do was stay by his brother's side, keeping him safe and awake until the team arrived.
He just hoped it would be soon...
(was it an animal? Bots? Poachers? Who knows? :3○)

Ace Up The Sleeve AU
In this AU, it'll be like an AU inspired by another great creator, only with my twist of the idea!
So the story will be about Martin and Chris getting into a big argument, to the point some hurtful words were said, however, a couple of days of the silent treatment, a villain appeared and the brothers had to fight him, with the two not speaking to each other.
However, tragedy struck as Martin sacrificed himself for Chris, still caring about his own brother, dying in the process.
Obviously, Chris is traumatized, guilty, and depressed after all that since Martin, even after what they said to each other, still sacrificed himself for him, however, that isn't the end of the story as the villain returns with an ace up his sleeve.
Tumblr media
I won't spoil much, but I'll give you the introduction of the au, since I made it in AO3!
Here is the link!

Chimpanzee and Me Spoilers and Review
So I really liked this episode out of the 3 that were released, the animal facts were solid as usual and it was a good watch. It also checked off another thing that was on my "Things I wanted to see in Season 7 list from 2022.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But now for the actual spoilers...
Tumblr media
Foreshadowing... (Chekhov's gun at its finest)
Tumblr media
Bruh not the kid stock image 😭
Tumblr media
I honestly thought Chris falls here and that's how he twists his ankle.
But no... "Green Grape" got ablitorated by Green Grape
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Honestly I watched this scene a few times and I have no clue how he twisted his ankle like that. But I mean I haven't twisted my ankle before so I could be missing something.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm so glad we got another episode where an injury plays a huge part in an episode, haven't see that since Season One's (Flight of the Draco).
Tumblr media
On a side note I love that they are teaching sign language to show how we can communicate.
Overall this is a solid episode! 8/10

I’ll Forever Love You: A Wild Violet One Shot
Tumblr media
@acatinlove Asked this question in response to this post. It’s been a while, but I finally managed to write the piece!
This piece is also a continuation of a question asked by @octoqueen10 a while back regarding Zach and Violet’s wedding proposal. I initially answered the ask with information on their first proposal, the answered ask can be found here.
I’ve had this one shot cooking for quite some time, and I decided to use this as the way to describe their second proposal! I was hoping to get this out on the 10 year anniversary of the proposal, which was September 4th, but I needed some more time with it!
So without further ado…Here is the completed one shot: I’ll Forever Love You: A Wild Violet One Shot!
Tumblr media
Summary
“I'll love you until the day I die and even after that...Never, ever, and forever...I'll forever love you, and I can't spend my life without you...”
Zach Varmitech and his wife Violet Virginia Varmitech née Tyler reconnect after a traumatic loss, a month apart, and a near divorce. Leading to a beautiful moment between them, and an important step forward in their relationship.
Warnings
For this one shot a few warnings apply: ANGST, there is a lot of angst in this one y’all! There are mentions of divorce, stillbirth, loss of child, past character death, and hints of pregnancy that all relate back to angst, so please be prepared to jump aboard the angst train. There are also descriptions of depression, anxiety, and general feelings of hopelessness.
One mild curse word is included. There are references to past alcoholism and mentions of smoking/cigarettes. One kissing scene is described, and the end of the story may be interpreted as suggestive, but there is no explicit or mature sexual references included in this work. Italics are used in a few lines to describe past scenes/memories.
Links
Inspiration Song
The one shot is also heavily inspired by this song, the title comes from this song and this is a line that Zach uses/references in his proposal 🥰.

Just Resting
TWs: death and a lil gore Ship(s): none Notes: they didn't request it, but this is dedicated to @ilovevirgilsanders4ever Word Count: 1594
Martin gripped Chris' hand tightly, a little too tight in Chris' opinion. But Chris didn't comment on it. He knew exactly why Martin was gripping his hand so tightly. They were in a life or death situation. Which made Martin scared for Chris' safety. When Martin was scared for Chris' safety, Chris had realized Martin would go to almost any length to keep him safe.
It shocked him when he first realized that. Chris hated that he couldn't quite return that feeling. Chris really wanted to. He didn't understand why he couldn't. He loved Martin, Martin was his best friend. Martin would give anything for him, but Chris couldn't extend the same curtesy.
Chris turned his head to look back. Which had been a mistake.
The brothers Kratt were running from some malfunctioning Zachbots. It wasn't their normal, almost silly malfunction. This malfunction was dangerous, Chris could almost see murder in their robotic red eyes.
He swallowed thickly and looked back. Chris was so glad his older brother was leading him along. If Martin wasn't, Chris would've stopped and gotten hurt. Maybe even killed. But Martin was there. He was always there. Martin would never let Chris be injured or upset whenever he could. Of course, Martin was only human and couldn't protect Chris from every little thing.
But Chris used to think Martin was unable to get hurt. He had been a little kid, and only could see his older brother keep him safe from harm. That belief had changed when Chris was seven when Martin had gotten into his first fight. He could remember his parents yelling at Martin then taking him into another room. It was a room that Chris wasn't ever allowed to enter, but Martin seemed to go in often.
They jumped over a rotten tree. Chris stumbled just a little before running faster. He could hear the Zachbots beeping. The beeps never sounded more terrifying.
Martin looked around and noticed a small cave. He stopped running and looked at Chris. He tilted his head towards it while he let go of Chris' hand. "Go to the cave. I'll be there soon."
Chris hesitated then ran to the small cave. He crouched down and made sure he was hidden. He could still see what was going on, watching his older brother make a loud noise then run in the opposite direction of Chris. The Zachbots followed.
His whole body froze, his heart seeming to stop beating for a few seconds. Chris realized what Martin was doing. He shrunk more into the cave, terrified for his life. Terrified for Martin's life.
Much to his horror, he heard a loud scream. A scream that was clearly of pain. And it was Martin's scream. Chris tried to get himself run towards it, but his feet felt glued to the ground.
The younger swallowed thickly and pulled out his creature pod. He called the Tortuga, his whole body shaking so much more than it usually did. Which wasn't a lot.
Aviva answered. "Hey, Chris. What's up?"
He opened and shut his mouth, tears starting to flow down his cheeks. Eventually he managed to squeak out, "Martin."
"What about Martin."
"Z-Zachbots went crazy. H—" Chris was cut off by another scream. He flinched and squeezed his eyes shut.
"Where are you?"
"He told me to hide in a cave. He went the other direction. I don't know where he is now."
She nodded and took a deep breath. "Alright. I'll see if Koki can pinpoint his location. Do you think you can find the Tortuga?"
"I can try." Chris hated that he was doing this. Martin needed his help, but he wasn't giving it. "But if you find Martin before I get there, let me know. I'll find somewhere to hide. He needs your help more than I do."
"Alright. Stay safe." Aviva hung up.
Chris ran a hand through his brown hair then left the cave. He was quiet and slow so the Zachbots wouldn't hear his movements and find him. Once he was sure they wouldn't, he bolted. He ran as fast as his body could go.
Soon enough, he heard the Tortuga flying over him. One of them must've noticed him because it stopped and a rope ladder was dropped down. He started climbing it.
"Go!" he shouted when he got up. The Tortuga flew while he sat on the circular table in the middle of the room. He pulled his knees to his chest. Chris almost expected Martin to come and comfort him, Martin always did, but he knew it wouldn't happen. Martin wasn't there. Martin might not even be coming back.
Aviva and Koki were lowered down on a platform with a stretcher. Chris watched them go. Aviva had her Creature Power Suit on. The reminder that he had forgotten his and Martin's had been on the frizz hit him like a wave. It wasn't like Chris to forget something so important.
Jimmy walked out of the cockpit and sat next to Chris. He didn't say anything as he pulled Chris into a side hug. Chris really hoped that Martin would bounce back, but he couldn't help but break down in Jimmy's arms. Jimmy then pulled him into a proper hug then rubbed his back.
Koki and Aviva came back up and ran too fast for Chris to see what state Martin was. Not that he really could since his back was towards them. Jimmy tightened his grip a little.
It took hours for Aviva to come back out. She noticed that Chris was asleep in Jimmy's arms. She sat next to him.
"He cried himself to sleep," Jimmy explained in a whisper. "How's Martin?"
She took a deep breath and shut her eyes. "We tried our best."
Jimmy knew what that meant. "It was that bad?"
"He had lost a lot of blood. None of us match his blood type."
"What kind of injuries did he get?"
"Well, the Zachbots had cut off one of his hands. I think it was after he managed to break one with a stick. There were some pretty deep cuts in his chest and some on his face. If Koki and I didn't get there when we did, it would've finished him right there."
His eyes widened, and he looked down at Chris. Chris hadn't woken up during their quiet conversation. He pulled Aviva into the hug. "Are you okay after that?"
"No. But I'll heal. Koki went to her room after we cleaned up. I'll be changing Martin's clothes into a different outfit in a little while. I just wanted to tell you and Chris what happened."
"I'll tell Chris when he wakes up. I'll probably make something to help him cope. Food always helps."
Aviva gave a weak laugh. "I think you should make everyone something."
Jimmy nodded and gently kissed her forehead. "Let me know if you need anything, okay? I'm always here to help in anyway."
"I don't want to put that onto you."
"Hey, no. I don't mind. Maybe we should all get into therapy. I'll listen until then."
She smiled weakly. "Thank you, Jimmy. I'm here for you too." Aviva then left.
Chris, about twenty minutes later, woke up with a hum. He let go of Jimmy and stretched. He chuckled a little when he noticed that Jimmy had fallen asleep. Chris hopped off the table and grabbed a blanket. He draped it over Jimmy then walked to the med bay.
No one had been able to tell him what happened. But he did notice that the med bay's door was shut. Chris sat on the ground, leaning his back on the wall right next to the door. Hopefully it was just that Martin needed time to rest and not... the other option.
Chris knew he would struggle if Martin was gone. He realized in the cave that he depended on Martin maybe a little too much. But Martin was his big brother.
The person who's always defended and protected him. The person who made sure that he was happy and healthy. The person that made sure that he knew that he was loved and cared for. That person couldn't be gone.
He knew the rest of the crew loved him, but it wasn't the same. It would never be the same. A brother's love was so different.
Someone sat next to him and started to rub his back. Chris didn't bother to see who it was. It wasn't Martin. Martin was resting in the med bay.
"How are you feeling?" Koki's soft voice came. She could tell he hadn't been told.
"Worried. I want Martin to be okay."
"I know you do." She put her cheek against his. "But—"
"Don't say it," Chris cut her off. "Just don't."
"Chris, he's gone."
"No. He's not." He pointed to the med bay. "He's in there."
"His body's in there," she corrected softly.
He shook his head. "He can't be gone. He just... can't be gone."
Koki pulled him into a hug. She didn't say anything. Nothing she could say would convince Chris that until Chris saw Martin's lifeless corpse.
She stood up and unlocked the door. Koki silently led him inside, hoping that this was the right idea.
Chris stared at the body then slowly walked over. He grabbed Martin's hand and pulled it to his chest. He looked at Martin's blue eyes that were staring at the ceiling, unblinking and starting to glass over. He blinked back tears and sank to his knees.
He's just sleeping, Chris thought. He'll wake up soon and we can go on another creature adventure.

Too Close
Summary:
“The Cobra King” episode, but things go wrong at the end. Enjoy! :D
Notes:
Rewatch the episode if you're afraid of confusion.
“AH!”
It started off as a minor mistake.
“He got me, bro!”
He always forgot his stuff, especially in the wild.
He just never thought it would lead to this.
Chris struggled as he held onto a tree branch for dear life. “But it’s a good thing I have Cobra Powers right now.” He looked down at his elbow, the bar on his immunity meter beginning to rise. “Venom immunity to the rescue!”
“Yeah, but it won’t last forever.” Martin quickly slithered toward the Cobra’s behind before he started pulling. “G-Gotta get him off!”
He yelped as he easily got whacked away by the Cobra’s tail, his long, serpent-like body ending up rolled around a nearby tree branch, head upside down.
It was then that Aviva and Koki showed up.
“Um, Martin. What are you doing tangled in a tree?” Koki asked, perplexed.
“Argh, long story. But just get me down. I gotta get to Chris!” He pointed at his struggling brother, the Cobra’s fangs still sinking into his green tail.
“Oh, no. The immunity meter is rising! The suit can’t take this much venom,” Chris let out when he realized that the bar on his wrist was reaching a dangerously high level.
“Oh, no! We gotta help Chris! Here, Martin, use this.” Aviva popped out a mini Creature Power Disc out of her MIK.
“King Cobra Power!” Martin exclaimed with excitement. “Oh-ho, that’ll help even this fight.” He eagerly inserted the disc, before Koki helped him out of his tangle.
“I’m coming, bro!” Martin quickly slithered back toward the back of the Cobra, touching its tail for DNA activation.
“Activate King Cobra Power!” Martin’s suit flashed a familiar blue as he grew a bit larger than before. “Now, it’s king versus king.”
“Sorry buddy,” Martin tapped the back of the Cobra’s hood. “Cobra strike!”
Martin attacked the snake with his own fangs. The creature hissed as it let go of Chris’ tail.
Chris slithered up the tree until he felt that he was safe. His eyes quickly went down to check on his immunity meter…
His heart skipped a beat.
Meanwhile, Martin was battling against the King Cobra all on his own.
For a split second, his focus shifted toward his brother, who looked frozen in his spot.
The Cobra would’ve struck him if it weren’t for Koki throwing a rock at it to chase it away.
Martin looked stunned. “Woah, thanks Koki.”
She gave him a thumbs up. “You should’ve been more careful.”
“Yeah, I know,” Martin laughed sheepishly.
Beep. Beep.
Everyone’s attention turned to Chris, who was still hanging around that tree.
Martin and Koki seemed perplexed. Aviva, however, gasped loudly.
“Oh, no. No, no, no…” she muttered as she ran to help Chris back on the ground.
Chris lay against the tree with his eyes wide, circled by everyone.
“Bro, what’s wrong?” Martin approached him before noticing his brother’s immunity meter beeping a bright red.
Oh God.
Martin’s stomach dropped at the sudden realization.
“Less than half an hour,” Chris muttered under his breath.
By now, Koki had caught up; she put a hand over her mouth.
“The anti-venom,” Aviva ran a stressed hand through her hair. “He needs my anti-venom ASAP!”
“I’ll call Jimmy and tell him to fly the Tortuga as close to us as possible,” Koki declared, already making the call on her Creature Pod.
During all this, Martin’s world started spinning. His background went silent, pierced by his own heart beat.
…rtin…Martin…
“MARTIN!”
Martin’s eyes went up to Aviva’s.
“Martin, deactivate Chris’ suit right now. The venom will take longer to affect him if he’s human sized,” she explained.
Without a second thought, Martin went over and pressed his brother’s deactivation button, before deactivating himself.
Flashes of green and blue blinded the girls.
Chris’ head fell on his brother’s shoulder. He groaned from his aching muscles.
Martin’s arms instinctively wrapped around him in a securing manner.
He swallowed.
A familiar engine sound burst through the air.
“Look!” Koki pointed at the Tortuga, landing not too far from their spot.
“We gotta move!” Aviva urged.
Martin immediately slid one hand under his brother’s legs, quickly standing up with him in his arms.
Chris moaned at the sudden movement.
What started as a fast paced group walk soon turned into a race against time.
Aviva and Koki were in the lead, guiding the way as Martin followed them, his mind on auto-pilot.
All he could think at that moment was, ‘It should’ve been me.’
It was his Creature Pod that got lost.
Instead, here he was running with his brother in his arms, knowing that his life depended on it.
He could already feel his brother’s pulse getting weaker and his breathing getting faster.
“Martin,” Chris manages. “If I don’t make i-”
Martin refused to let him finish that sentence.
“SHUT UP! YOU’RE GONNA BE FINE!” he cried out, holding back tears.
Chris winced at his reaction, then sighed as he closed his eyes.
Finally, after a few minutes, Martin could see the entrance of the Tortuga.
Aviva and Koki cleared the way as much as they could for Martin to get through with his brother.
“JIMMY!” Aviva and Koki called out as soon as they stepped foot in the main room.
“Over here!”
As quick as a dash, Jimmy had already set up the center table with the proper equipment, including Aviva’s anti-venom shot.
Martin - who was breathing heavily, both from the running and panic - hurried over before gently laying Chris down on his back.
Even though he only had a few seconds to look at him before letting his friends do their job, it wasn’t hard to tell that the venom had taken a toll on his brother.
His pale face, pain written all over it. His eyes were closed shut. His body was covered in cold sweats.
Yeah, Cobra venom was known for kicking it pretty quick.
Martin stepped back a little, nearly tripping over his own feet; his legs felt like spaghetti. He put a hand over his mouth, the corners of his eyes slowly watering.
He finally collapsed in Jimmy’s nearby cushion chair, watching from a distance as his brother was being given the shot that would save his life.
He ran a shaky hand through his hair. He looked to his side. He looked down, his hands covering his face.
He didn’t dare to look up. Too afraid he might find faces saying, ‘we’re sorry.’
He thought about when he yelled at him back there.
Regret ran through his guts.
What if that was the last thing he said to him before-
NO.
Don’t think it.
His heart was beating louder and louder by the second.
Lost in his own thoughts, he hadn’t noticed someone approaching him.
Startled, he was surprised to find Jimmy looking down at him with a reassuring smile.
“Don’t worry, Martin,” he said softly. “Chris will be just fine.”
Martin blinked for a few seconds.
How was he so calm?!
It was kind of out of character for him.
Martin peeked behind Jimmy and saw Aviva and Koki putting away some of the medical equipment.
Chris was still laying on the center table; he was out of it. A pulse oximeter was attached to his fingertip
Martin sighed heavily; Jimmy put a hand on his shoulder.
That was close. Too close.
A few hours had already passed.
Chris was resting in his and his brother’s room.
He was lucky that the suit prevented a bite mark, but that didn’t stop the venom from doing its job any less.
He opened his eyes and stared at the sealing for the longest time.
He heard the door open, snapping him out of his thoughts.
Somehow he already knew who it was.
“Hey bro,” he said without even looking at the entrance.
Sure enough, Martin passed by his brother’s bed and placed a cup of water on his side table.
He then sat on the side of his bed.
“Hey,” his voice was hushed, his eyes dull as he looked away.
“I’m sorry,” he finally said.
“I know,” Chris replied almost instantly. “Don’t worry about it.”
Martin’s lips started shaking.
“I almost lost you, today,” he whispered to himself.
Chris reached a hand.
Martin shakily held it.
“I almost got you killed,” his voice was filled with guilt. “It should’ve been me.” He gritted his teeth, tears slipping through his eyes.
Chris shook his head as though telling him, ‘No. Don’t you dare say that.’
“I am not dead.” Chris brought his brother’s hand to his heart. “Thanks to you, guys.”
Martin shook his head.
“You saved my life.”
“I was so scared.”
“I’m here.”
“I-I know.” His voice cracked. “I’m glad you are.”
He forced a half-smile, his face wet from his tears.
He squeezed his brother's hand.
Chris gave him a tired smile in turn.
It was all okay, now.
