The ad I watched presented ranked choice as "hey did you know you can do this? Wow! How cool!"

The thing is, ranked choice is NOT DONE in the state I live in (Oregon). This means *at best* there were some poor choices in the ad copy stage, at worst this is like...sorry to be paranoid, a psyop. Telling people in a charming tone with friendly looking graphics that " it's easy, just pick your top two!! 😁😁😁😁😁" is going to get people's votes thrown out.

CHECK if your state does ranked choice and if it does, HOW to do it. Regrettably, ranked choice is NOT the default, even in semi-progressive states like Oregon (ironically we vote for or against it this year I think). Do NOT let your vote get ruined by this.

malagender, malasexual, and malaromantic

back during the original run of this blog, at someone’s request, i designed flags for malagender, malasexual, and malaromantic. i’m not sure how i feel about them now but i thought i would repost them for proper documentation, since i noticed the flags on a couple of wikis lacking information that i could very easily provide! if i were to design them now i’d probably do it differently but it’s still worth recording. (if you see them credited to 1nklash, that’s my old deviantart!)

malagender:

a gender that is influenced by one's maladaptive daydreaming or another similar condition. mala- can be used as a prefix to further specify the user’s gender experience. 

the blue and pink are just because those are frequently used on gender-related flags, but the colors are in a gradient to represent the mental transition between reality and daydreaming. the large grey stripe in the center symbolizes the gap between those two states and the gender one feels in those states. the grey stripe can also be replaced with other gender pride flags.

i made malatransgender as an example:

malasexual and malaromantic:

the malasexual flag is purple because that is a color frequently used in flags to denote sexuality. the malaromantic flag is green for the same reason, but with romanticism. i know that purple and green usually specifically represent asexuality and aromanticism but i wasn’t really thinking about that at the time, i just wanted to distinguish the flags :P these flags have the gradients and the large stripe in the middle for the same reasons as the malagender flag.

ok you ask so i Will Be Elaborating. i have notes, wikis open, you know. the shit. i could probably give citations to most of those claims, but some of them are just based on vibes. maybe headcanons. i am honestly unsure at this point.

let's start with the obvious: yes, in my brain Wriothesley is Phoenix Wright-coded, while Neuvillette is Miles Edgeworth-coded. let me explain that first.

their appearance seems to match; both pairs have this "polar opposites" thing that i'll be coming back to frequently, but you can see it first in their design. while narumitsu goes for the funky blue-magenta, wriolette is classy white&blue-black&red (i know they both have greys/blacks but it's about the Themes).

well, Wriothesley and Phoenix might have an opposing color scheme, but they're actually kinda similar. the artstyles wary wildly, but in my head their hairstyles have at least the same vibe. i honestly think if we put a hat and a tracksuit on Wriothesley he would look very similar to Phoenix in Apollo Justice. they are both very much dog-coded (Wriothesley is a fucking cerberus or a werewolf or whatever. Phoenix is a golden retriever. unless you count his Apollo Justice era. then maybe like an evil dingo or smth)

they were both connected to law somehow since they were children (as, respectively, a murderer/convict and... uhh a kid who was accused of stealing some money? but you know, the tonal difference has to be there, Wriothesley is much more of a tragic character since the beginning, but Phoenix gets some more fucked up lore later). they both had hard experiences that left them with trust issues that they both cope with through humor and general snark.

Apollo Justice era Phoenix reminds me the most of Wriothesley here: they are both seen as criminals even though their situations are quite nuanced. their morals are quite flexible and they both do things that aren't really "by the book" for the greater good or to satisfy their own morals, even if they prefer not to. both Wriothesley and Phoenix survived a lot of physical trauma and have good pain tolerance/endurance.

they are both seen as laid back, dependable, sarcastic and sometimes kind of goofy. they are both big softies at heart and like children a lot, neither of them runs away from a bit of kids' tomfoolery. sometimes they even seem/act a bit fatherly (Wriothesley mostly to Sigewinne/the fortress occupants at large; Phoenix towards his little family of misfits and Trucy, ofc). what connects them especially is the general guard-dog vibe they give off - i don't think they could stop it even if they tried, and that makes them especially fucked up.

Neuvillette and Edgeworth are both seen kind of like dignified older men (even when Edgeworth really isn't). they are always seen in elegant clothing and they both even wear a jabot!!! also they both have an old person hair color. Neuvillette's design is funkier, but Edgeworth also dabs in some aristocratic details (at least in his von Karma era).

they are both kind of old souls (more or less literally) - seen by others as serious, unfeeling and stately. they are both largely unfamiliar with the more emotional and empathetic parts of themselves, or rather they don't have a great understanding of them, even though they both clearly feel A Lot. they are generally seen as complex, aloof and awkward.

they are both mostly referred to by their last name (did you know that no one knows Neuvillette's first name?), they act distant and cold because of... reasons. they are both in clear positions of power in the court of law, and Neuvillette even investigated/prosecuted a few times.

but i think that their most important similarity is: they both have a silly little hobby! Edgeworth loves Steel Samurai, while Neuvillette enjoys water tasting - i think both of those make them seem more... like real people. humanizes them.

both relationships have this "polar opposites that need each other to work at all" theme; narumitsu, of course, as defense vs prosecution in court of law, meanwhile wriolette is more of judgement vs correction as two parts of a whole - after one person sentences, the other manages the prisoners, tries to rehabilitate and have them rejoin society... or whatever Wriothesley is cooking honestly.

it couldn't be said that they met in the same circumstances, but just as narumitsu, wriolette first met during the trial in which Wriothesley/Phoenix was accused. both pairs have deep personal relationships forged on trust. there's also that theme of fighting for each others reputation, though flipped (Neuvillette for Wriothesley's title as the duke/Phoenix for Miles' as the Demon Prosecutor)

(i think its also funny how the four characters kind of uhh. fit together? we have a defense attorney, a prosecutor, a judge and a prison warden - no doubles! all roles taken!)

A Hat in Time Theory IN WHICH HAT KID WAS ORIGINALLY THE DAUGHTER OF VANESSA AND THE PRINCE BUT IN WHICH THAT WAS POSSIBLY CUT OUT below the cut please bear with my ramblings.

First of all, I feel like it’s safe to say that Hat Kid’s home is very possibly in a different time than which the game takes place because why else would you pilot a ship that runs on magic hourglasses? However, if she is originally from Earth during a different time, she does not seem to recognize it. This is the main reason that I think her being from Earth was originally cut and is no longer in the story.

In her diary after Chapter 1-1, she writes, “Why couldn’t I have gotten stranded near a normal planet,” which indicates to me that Hat Kid has no connection to Earth at all. Her diaries continue in this tone of exploring an unfamiliar planet as she documents her encounters. Especially when she writes about the Snatcher or about Vanessa, she appears to have no knowledge of who they were and talks about Vanessa as probably being a creepy old lady and Snatcher being a jerk making her do chores. I feel like if Hat Kid knew the home she’s trying to return to is the past Subcon forest, there would be more hints, at least, where she either reflects on the state of the forest or outright shows more affection for Snatcher or Vanessa. 

However, it is probable that Hat Kid simply doesn’t know. We don’t know how long she was separated from Home, and we don’t know when she was, potentially resulting in a Clark Kent version where Hat Kid was shot out to space as a baby to protect her from Vanessa? This specifically could make sense when considering how the beta characters, Tim and Thor are frozen in Vanessa’s manor on the same floor where there is a nursery. Tim was originally going to serve as Hat Kid’s instructor/tutorial and Thor was an inventor. It makes sense that they might have not only constructed the ship for Hat Kid, but would have helped her escape before being frozen by Vanessa. (Or they’re there so their models get used and it’s not that deep). But, it does seem telling either way that Vanessa’s Manor does hold a nursery. (On a creepier note, the painting in the nursery is slowly filled in with what looks like Hat Kid holding the fox Forest Dweller Mask as Hat Kid goes back and forth to bring balloons to the key on Vanessa’s bed. While this could be just to add extra horror to the spooky situation, it does seem to connect Hat Kid directly to the nursery).

Subcon Forest has the most cut content from what I can tell, and seems to have the most fleshed out characters and world. Focusing on Scenery, there’s the frozen manor and village, the burning forest, the Forest Dweller’s village, the well, the swamp, and most importantly, the area of the forest where the purple time rift is. According to the wiki, this area of the forest is known as the Augmented forest and could have been where Moonjumper lived. The forest is full of crumbling homes and furniture, giant gears, a giant face of a yellow clock with a red hand, and the Purple Time Rift that tells us Queen Vanessa’s story. The Time Rift is inside a large ice shard that varies with hit boxes and a tower with Hat Kid’s Top Hat right in front of it. To my knowledge, there isn’t any similar structure in the other worlds so it’s strange that Subcon has a whole pillar dedicated to Hat Kid’s signature Hat.

Speaking of Moonjumper, he was originally the prince before he was cut and the Snatcher took Moonjumper’s backstory. Interestingly, the outline of the prince in Vanessa’s manor looks, to me, more like Moonjumper’s design with the jagged cloak which doesn’t matter too much to this theory but I thought I would point it out. The moon is always looming over Subcon Forest and the higher you get, specifically on top of the Snatcher’s tree, you can see shadowy buildings with golden windows reaching towards the moon. This is reminiscent of where Hat Adult is found in the beta.

Hat Adult, another scrapped idea, exists a bookstore in a grey looking world with shadowy structures and golden windows. Hat Adult has a song called “Hat Adult Masked Song” with lyrics that seem to tell the story of the Prince and Vanessa and was supposed to be played over “TheSubconForest_Masked” (as explained here) And interestingly, the lyrics seem to refer to Moonjumper instead of the Snatcher, saying, “Skin so blue/His eyes shot red.” Which better matches Moonjumper’s blue skin and decorated red eyes. So, at least in the beta, Hat Adult seems more connected to Moonjumper and his story. I think it’s worth noting that it’s also snowing in the area with the bookstore, almost like tying in Vanessa’s icy influence as well. Whether the bookstore is in fact where Hat Adult calls Home or not, it seems odd that there’s a lot of connections between Hat Adult and Subcon in general.

Mentioned in the same video I linked at 9:23, there’s an art piece of Hat Kid and Hat Adult, a Rocketship, and Penguins under a moon (also boy with a sword but idk I’m focusing on the moon right now). The only other place, to my knowledge, where we see the moon is where DJ Grooves films his movies, which is supposed to be on the moon. This might explain the penguins in the pic but the rocketship and Hat Kid and Hat Adult seem to further emphasize that they need to get to the moon for some reason or other. Most likely because it is connected to Home.

This is all hypothetical, but in my gut I want to connect “Time’s End” to the Horizon, which is where Moonjumper would have been trapped. I feel like if there’s going to be a place where time is unmoving/doesn’t exist it would be the Horizon? Again, connecting Moonjumper to Hat Adult.

In the wiki there’s also a very interesting quote from the Snatcher that takes place some time during the Death Wish DLC. He says, “You look just like your parents, you know that? At least I think you do-their spirits are looking kind of hazy. Just kidding! Or maybe not, who can really tell.” Assuming this is directed at Hat Kid and not a depressing quip about her parents’ souls being with the Snatcher, it could be a hint that the Snatcher is talking about himself and Vanessa. We don’t get a lot of specific facial features for human Vanessa or the Prince, but the Prince’s hair does seem similar to Hat Kid’s hair color and the fact that the Snatcher admits their spirits are looking kind of hazy could refer to the Snatcher and Vanessa’s shadow forms.

Also this is small, but the amount of character dolls and the fact that right at the beginning of the game you can find a snatcher ball even before the time pieces are lost seems suspicious if Hat Kid was never supposed to have been on the planet before or know any of the characters...

Finally, there’s a picture of an idyllic wooden home by river in a lush green forest in the kitchen on Hat Kid’s ship (even at the beginning of the game). This could be a picture of Subcon Forest before Vanessa changed as the building structure is similar to the wooden homes in the frozen and burning parts of the forest. Also, the picture of Hat Kid’s home on the screen keeping track of time pieces looks like a shorter version of the picture in the woods, complete with trees growing beside it. Coincidence? Probably. JK I totally think it makes sense that Hat Kid was at least born in Subcon Forest pre Vanessa turning it to ice.

TL;DR: Hat Kid was at least originally planned to be the Prince’s and Queen Vanessa’s daughter but that part of the story was probably cut because of all the beta content cut and all the ties Hat Kid has to Subcon Forest.

Somehow i like that phoenix has heterochromai too... too bad that according to cannon (and wiki) his eyes are dark blue. Although in roginal trilogy they appred black or grey I guess then they agreed on blue. Btw should be Phoenix like partially japanese as ryonusuke is his ancestor right? Figure since tbis is japanifornia I wouldnt be suprised if every sceond person there had japanese or part japanese origins...

Honestly, it is an intriguing idea. I’d explore that with Maya since her eye colors are all over the place as well. I just can’t think of anything that would cause her eyes to become that way though.

And yeah, Phoenix is partially Japanese. I pretty much think that the AA characters are descended from Japanese immigrants unless stated otherwise.

Sometimes I miss writing essays so I’m sharing a thought I have.

I think it’s interesting how “those colors between blue and green” is one of the choices over Black, White, or Grey; there’s no direct citation for this on the Wikipedia page for color terms that I can find (although it may be in one of the sources once dug through), but the Wikipedia page for Color Terms states that, “An example of a color that comes close to being a basic color term in English is turquoise. It is monolexemic, but is not very high frequency, especially compared to alternatives teal or cyan. It also generally fails the [litmus test to determine if a word is an established color term, in which one uses approximate color-terms and sees if the usage of that approximation is jarring or not] in that most people do not find the use of the approximation of other basic color terms (blue-green) to be jarring.”

I find it interesting since turquoise is not an established color term, meaning it is not one of the “official” colors of the English language that is studied when observing the evolution of color terms across languages. However, the usage of that color in this poll implies that color is still distinct enough to be classified as its own category of colors, over colors that ARE official color terms of the 11 color terms of English (Black, White, Grey; black and white being statistically amongst the first colors to be named within a language alongside red). Not distinct enough to have it’s own name (being called blue-green), but unique enough from blue and green that it has to be specified :p

CURTAIN!

The curtain parts and we are greeted with a big ass title card that states in what can almost be described as a whisper that the year is

2141 The place? Marlborough Lines, Andover, Hampshire, in the United Kingdom. 51° 12′ 32.72″ N, 1° 31′ 17.65″ W.

As we cross non league football grounds, a railway station and a flour mill, we can see a mostly industrial town, in which the clouds are grey, yet cool.

Not your stereotypical English weather here, folks!

In this sort of lifeless small town, rooted in traditional thinking, we approach the very basis of this old timey tree of a town: Marlbourough Lines, the official Army Headquarters of The United Kingdom.

At first glance, the building would seem unimportant to most: Beige walls, multiple green doors, surprisingly miniscule.

In fact, its most striking external feature would be its oddly shaped roof.

Ah, but you see…

It is what inside that is important.

And it is definitely true with Marlborough Lines, and as we enter the doors, the hustle and bustle of Behind The Scenes army management is shown to our curious eyes.

Here you will not see men and women in green practice their shooting, however.

Here, my dear friends, is where we find the minds behind the operations.

Men in dark blue high neck tunics and elaborate headwear shuffle along importantly, discussing matters with a dry, formal air.

Everything, even the most trivial of conversations is gravely important.

Bushy beards and wrinkled faces nod and harrumph, and sounds of hurried typing and fax machine dials reverberate in a light room.

One of these bearded men, a Sergeant Arthur Wilson, former bank clerk from Thetford, Norfolk, currently twiddling his thumbs and pacing agitatedly near a big, wooden brown door, made of the oldest and finest yew,  is tasked with a most unenviable errand: Deliver the Chief of the General Staff bad news.

The polished wall clock tick tocked the seconds away, causing more and more sweat to glisten on Sergeant Wilson’s forehead, as he took out a hankerchief to wipe the droplets away.

“Just get it over with, Arthur old boy…”, he told himself, trying to ignore his heart’s desire to leap out and travel the world as a minstrel.

Or a dog show judge. He hadn’t chosen yet.

“You may come in, Sergeant Wilson.”, the gruff yet deathly serious commanding tone of the Chief of the General Staff sounded from within the office out to poor Arthur’s ears.

Arthur gulped, his throat almost croaking like a toad as he edged nervously towards the shiny brass metal door knob.

As he wiped his brow once more, he tried to settle his irate nerves.

“Take it easy, old chap. It’s just routine. Yes, routine.”

He nervously turned the handle.

“Why, you’ve told him this a million times.”

Of course, a small voice inside him couldn’t help but retort “Well, he’s also massacred you every single time you’ve said that.”

But there was no time to dilly dally.

Otherwise Arthur would get massacred twice.

And there were only so many times that could happen in a day.

Arousing last bits of blind courage, Arthur swung the door open wide, entering the office with a frenzy.

“Sir, I have bad news to report!”, he shouted out in attention, saluting the currently turned with his back to him chief.

The office was quite a sight to see: Swarms of medals decorated the walls, maps and diagrams of key hot spots and defensive positions hung on every spot that wasn’t filled with pictures of important people meeting the Chief, and shelves upon shelves of thick, detailed books on military history stood proudly, knowledge practically oozing from their yellowing pages.

However, that was not what caught Arthur’s eyes, and certainly your eyes would agree.

All eyes would and should dart towards the Chief himself, his imposing and towering stature present even when seated.

His back was hunched in thought, but since no one could see his eyes, no one could tell whether said thoughts were stormy or cordial.

One thing for sure: He would not like the news.

And that was immediately apparent in his dark, turquoise eyes that almost cut Arthur to ribbons without a single word.

The rest of the slaughter would be done with his piercing and sharp voice, one that could slice through air like it was… Well, air.

“What… Bad news, Sergeant?”, The Chief asked with a decidedly displeased tone.

Sergeant Wilson took a moment to breath as his voice trembled.

“Well… You see… It’s about… Um… Oh, you know…”

“This never gets easier, does it?”, he thought to himself.

The Chief, his rifle green high neck tunic and monocle now present, stood up, his large form now even more apparent as he strode towards Arthur, each step echoing in the halls of Arthur’s mind.

“In actual fact, Sergeant Wilson, I don’t know. If I did know… The matter would have been resolved long ago.”

His hands crossed behind his back, his head now lowering to meet the meek man below him, The Chief stared him straight in the eyes. The whites of his eyes to be specific.

“Refusing to report under order could lead to serious trouble for you.”, He said with way more than a hint of a threat in his words.

He tugged at the cross adorning Arthur’s chest.

“Would be a real pity if someone as essential as you lost their privilege to serve the Queen’s army over something as trivial as… Bad news.”

His words were loud and clear, and as Arthur gulped one last time, he choked out the message he so feared.

“Understood sir. It’s… It’s about your son, sir.”

The Chief’s composure died alongside Arthur’s words, his monocled eye twitching and his dulcet tones now replaced with rage and frustration.

“You don’t mean…”

He seethed and huffed, slamming the door aside, knocking Arthur down to the ground with a loud thud.

“Back to your duties, Sergeant Wilson!”, The Chief barked as he marched down the hall towards the entrance doors with great intensity.

“I will deal with Balthazar personally!”

As the doors swung wide and the sun invaded the premises, a doozy Arthur weakly saluted from the ground.

“As you wish, Chief Cavendish…”

1. Just seeing that there’s a title and a tagline and that this story is finally happening is magical to me. A friend of mine and I came up with this back in October 2018, and I’ve been adding more and more to it ever since!

2. Believe it or not, back when I was consistently making stories for the wiki, the plan was to post this on December 2018 (preferably Christmas). There would be a sequel (which I hadn’t chosen yet, and would end up becoming WaffleTail’s requested “Is This A Crossover Fanfic?”) and the threequel, “The Question”, was scheduled for Serend’s birthday. As you all know, the reverse happened.

3. Only a few things were clear to me from the start: The title, the plot (at least, parts of it), the villains and the ending. The musical parts were only thought of back in September 2019 after a first viewing of Steven Universe: The Movie left quite the impression!

4. The purple font that stops after Cavendish is on purpose: Purple is the official BI-Sexual color on the LGBTQ+ Flag. It represents his denial. The World is black because most of it (outside of a few close friends) want him to be someone else.

5. I like the intro! The story is written as a movie, a musical and a play, so the whole curtain shebang was fun to add!

6. I must say that another inspiration comes from MelissaFan’s musical about Milolissa! It sparked something in me, so thanks, Colleen!

7. 2141’s green font (that you can't see) is because of Cavendish, and because it felt kind of soft and homely, before everything goes to the shit.

8. Every detail in this one, from the military uniforms to the longitude and latitude to the locations are accurate. Lot’s of research for this one!

9. It was fun writing this chapter! This story HAD to be different to my usual stories, so I spend a lot of time on locations. It feels slower than most of my work, and it was fun to try doing that!

10. It is what inside that is important isn’t very subtle, true.

11. Arthur Wilson is one big “Dad’s Army” reference, and I love him for that!

12. In general, writing this scene was so different! It really feels like nothing we’ve seen before in the AU, which is most of this story. It’s easily the most mature, adult and sad story yet, and it takes us to places we’ve never seen!

13. And we finally see Cavendish’s Dad! He did appear as a ghost in “This Date Must Work” but it is here that is his true debut! He doesn’t feature that much (in fact, once this prologue ends, you won’t see him again until the end), but he is important! His presence is the reason Cavendish is the way he is, and he is arguably the biggest figure in Cavendish’s life!

I’m sure some of you may find this chapter a tad disappointing: Only 1k words? And it’s not even about Cavendish? Yes, I get you. But don’t worry! Not only is this chapter important, it will  be continued on Monday, where some REALLY big things happen!

In short: Lil’ Cavendish. Nuff said.

Lord Eddard Stark has a long face and long brown hair. His closely-trimmed beard is beginning to grey, making him look older than his thirty-five years. His dark grey eyes reflect his moods, turning soft as fog or hard as stone. Eddard is shorter and less handsome than his older brother Brandon had been, according to Catelyn Stark; however, she also states that Ned has a "good sweet heart beneath his solemn face". He keeps faith with the old gods. He is fiercely protective of his wife and children, whom he loves deeply.

Lady Catelyn Stark is beautiful, with fair skin, long auburn hair and blue eyes. She has long fingers and high cheekbones. Her own sons Robb, Bran and Rickon, and daughter Sansa take after Catelyn in their coloring. Catelyn is peaceful and holds duty over desire as a governing principle of behavior, but she is fiercely protective of her beloved family. She is wise and cunning. Her attire includes gowns and a woolen dress of Tully red and blue.

Lord Robb Stark is his father Eddard's son, with a keen sense of justice and courtesy. He shares his father's devotion to honor and is frequently accompanied by his direwolf, Grey Wind. Robb's appearance favors his Tully side, with a stocky build, blue eyes, and thick red-brown hair. He is strong and fast. He opens the series as a boy of fourteen years. Robb wears a white cloak and surcoat over his mail. He wields a longsword and an oak shield decorated with a direwolf's head.

Jon Snow is the bastard son of Eddard Stark, Lord of Winterfell. Jon has more Stark-like features than any of his half-brothers. He is graceful and quick, and has a lean build. Jon has the long face of the Starks, with dark, brown hair and grey eyes so dark they almost seem black. Jon looks solemn and guarded, and is considered sullen and quick to sense a slight. Jon has resented his bastard status most of the time. He desires to be viewed as honorable and wants to prove he can be as good and true as his half-brother, Robb.

Lady Sansa Stark is traditionally beautiful, taking after her mother's family with her high cheekbones, deep blue eyes, and thick soft auburn hair lighter than her mother's. She is eleven years old at the start of A Song of Ice and Fire. As she has grown up, her figure has been described as tall, graceful, and womanly. Sansa is described as soft-spoken and sweet-smelling. Like many girls her age, Sansa is enthralled by songs and stories of romance and adventure, particularly those depicting handsome princes, honorable knights, chivalry, and love.

Lady Arya Stark is a spirited girl interested in fighting and exploration, unlike her older sister, Sansa. Arya wants to learn how to fight with a sword, to the horror of Sansa, who enjoys the more traditional pursuits of a noblewoman. Arya is particularly close to her half brother, Jon Snow, who encourages her martial pursuits. She is said to take after the fiery Lyanna in temperament. Nine years old at the start of A Game of Thrones, Arya's appearance is more Stark than Tully, with a long face, grey eyes, and brown hair. She is skinny and athletic.

Lord Brandon Stark is a sweet and thoughtful boy, well-loved by everyone at Winterfell. Like his siblings, Bran is also dutiful and tough-minded, but also possesses a propensity for adventure and excitement; he yearns to see far off places one day and dreams of becoming a knight. Bran favors his mother Catelyn in appearance, having the thick auburn hair and deep blue eyes of the Tullys.

Lord Rickon Stark is playful but temperamental and stubborn. He has a breathless laughter and fiercely tries to be like his older brothers. Rickon's family often thinks of him as a baby. Rickon favors his mother Catelyn in appearance, having the bright blue eyes, auburn hair, and easy smile of a Tully.

Laito Sakamaki

Permissions

Shipping?  Yes, but extremely difficult if you’re aiming for something more than physical.  I will not count “physical relationships” as a genuine ship, so Laito will wander around and be with whomever he wishes until/unless he settles on a particular person, Yui or otherwise.  Singleship per verse with limited verses.  Please note - as stated on the rules page, orientation is typically listed as what the muses think they are.

Duplicates? Multiple ‘Yuis’?  What about character that aren’t on the dedicated castmates list?  Yes.  You can thrust Laito at Laito.  There’s also no issue with duplicates of canon, crossover, etc. characters that Laito is already interacting with.  You want it, you got it.   To prevent destroying the validity of duplicate muses, I will sometimes think of things as ‘A Kanato did this’ instead of ‘Kanato did this’, which is a very subtle difference but prevents another muse from having to deal with the blame of an event they were not responsible for.  This will only be differentiated as necessary within writing.  I repeat: all duplicate muses will be treated with respect, not as ‘fakes’.  Any Sakamaki brother is a brother of his, regardless of how many Kanatos there are (for example).  We’re just going to, uh, slide past that as often as possible (and occasionally make jokes).

Multiple Laitos will be treated as though they’d somehow wandered into one’s world or the other via some enchanted, strange object or doorway in the Sakamaki household.  This allows them to interact, but prevents the concept that one is a ‘true’ Laito over the other.  I do not necessarily recommend having two of them meet if there’s a Yui present.  Ideas may arise.  You have been warned.

Fighting?  A-Okay, but Laito will probably run away, avoid, escape, etc. unless there’s a real need.  He prefers nonviolent confrontations.  I’ve done a lot of fighting roleplay but it was in the past and I’m way more interested in the storytelling of it.  It’s better that we discuss the end result beforehand for smoother sailing, but we can improv it as well.

Harming? A-Okay!  Just be aware that this muse may harm or kill yours in turn!

Killing? A-Okay!  Please be aware, however, that should the need or desire to continue the verse arise, the death scene will be considered a what-if.  In addition, it is very difficult to kill this muse due to the pureblood resurrection abilities.

Can we send shippy memes / etc.? Sure, we can still explore what-ifs, drabbles and oneshot threads, but the main focus will be on the storyline here!

Can we know Yui has Cordelia’s heart, is possibly turning into a vampire, is surrounded by vampires, etc. and reference this to Laito? On a case-by-case basis.  It should be discovered organically if it’s not something your character would be able to know already.  There’s plenty of situations where this would make sense.

Can we know about Laito’s past before interacting?  No, not unless you have genuine reasons for it like being one of his brothers.

Can we have characters comment on the events of the timeline? Yes, if they “catch sight of”, “overhear a rumor”, “a familiar saw X”, or any other sensible reason, then characters can be aware of and comment on events.  I wholly encourage characters participate in Laito’s life!  Please tell the story with me!

Can we rescue Yui Komori from the Sakamaki household? Unlikely.  At best, if you succeed in the first place, it’s entirely likely that they will find you, they will take Yui back, and they will kill one or both of you for this.  Or the Mukamis might take advantage of the situation!  Obviously, the exception here is the Mukamis, who are entirely expected to attempt this from time to time.

Can we reference interactions we’ve had with your Kanato, etc. to Laito?  I mean...sure?  If you want?  I’m fine with using my muses for plot and timeline advancements for myself and those I interact with (within limits) but I’d also prefer to not be my Kanato’s Laito and vice versa, so this would probably be limited.  You can still act like what’s happened has happened, though.

Appearance

Laito has shoulder-length reddish-brown hair, with lighter blondish color to the tips, a mole on the right side of his chin and green eyes just like his triplet brother Ayato.  He has fair skin and is usually seen in a pose where he holds the tip of his hat as it looks like he is trying to pull it down.  He has a slender figure and is often seen smirking.  He has two piercings on his left ear.

In HAUNTED DARK BRIDAL, Laito’s casual wear is usually an unzipped blue hoodie with white cuffed sleeves over a striped sweater with sleeves that almost cover his hands and a white dress shirt with a red tie.  He wears it with brown pants along with his hat that has a red ribbon around it.

In MORE, BLOOD, Laito wears a dress shirt with a grey vest and two scarves, one white and one black.  He wears this with black pants and his signature fedora hat.  

His uniform consists of the black uniform jacket over a red jacket that has fur bordering the hood.  Under that is a white dress shirt with a skinny black tie.  He wears black pants that go only to his knees and his signature hat.

Personality

Infamously, Laito is perverted.  He’s been suspended from school multiple times over his perverse behavior.  Despite his masochistic-seeming tendencies, Laito is a ‘Do-S’ and extreme sadist like all his brothers.  Though his methods may, at a glance, seem far softer than some of his brothers, he is extremely sexually aggressive and manipulates the mindset of others’ based on his whims.  If he distresses someone too much and picks up on it, he may either fully break the individual or turn soft for their next engagement, ensuring the person is clinging to the nicer, lovelier moments together.

Cheerful, playful and friendly, Laito adores teasing and messing with others, especially Yui.  He enjoys others watching him tease an individual.  He enjoys watching other people bite and mess with Yui, but ultimately turns possessive and jealous over it.

History

CHILDHOOD. The oldest triplet by birth order, the triplets consider each others’ ages via an old tradition where the last one to be born in a multiple birth is the oldest.  Thus, Laito is treated as the youngest triplet and, in addition, the fifth son of the Sakamakis.  When Laito was a child, Cordelia had no purpose for him and ignored him even more than Kanato, whose voice she at least appreciated.  Though he tended to be a softer, more sensitive boy, he would often play with the louder Ayato and the temperamental Kanato when the opportunity arose.  More often than not, he was left to his own devices and felt truly unloved and neglected.

Once he was “old enough” (by Cordelia’s standards apparently), Cordelia began an incestuous relationship between them.  This went on for quite some time until Karlheinz found out about it and tossed Laito into the dungeon.  When Cordelia went to see him, Laito thought he was someone precious to her and that she wanted to rescue him.  Instead, she showed him her “love” for Richter while he watched, forcing Laito to see that he was never special to her among all the other men in her life.  Unfortunately, their “relationship” continued even after he was freed and Laito was unable to see her actions as anything but cheating on him.  He frequently murdered her lovers but was forced to promise that he would not kill Richter.  The ongoing stress of being forced into sexual situations (witnessing his mother’s acts with others, etc.) that he did not necessarily desire and his mother’s inconsistent behavior towards him led to Laito growing into a pervert with a very warped understanding of “love”.  

Eventually, Cordelia was attacked by Ayato and came to Laito for help.  Rather than harm Ayato or allow Cordelia her wish to be killed “by the only man she loved” (his father), he pushed her off the balcony so that he could keep her to himself for eternity.

NEAR CURRENT.  Karlheinz manipulated circumstances to keep tossing experimental sacrificial brides at his children.  None could endure the blood loss, physical and emotional torment.  The sacrificial brides were too fragile and the Sakamakis broke their toys.  

CURRENT. A single sacrificial bride is surviving and enduring: Yui Komori.  Whichever brother obtains her will become the Sakamaki heir.  Without directly entering into a “relationship” with any of the Sakamakis, she endures her stay there.

Spatula, by far one of the silliest genus names for any dinosaur, is a group of dabbling ducks with extremely long and flattened bills, hence the name. These birds live around the world and come in a wide variety of colors. Very similar to typical dabbling ducks, they were originally pushed into Anas, the genus of ducks including typical ones such as the Mallard. However, genetic evidence has since indicated the necessity of splitting it out.

The Garganey Duck, S. quequedula, is a small, nonthreatened species in the genus, found during the breeding season in Europe and West Asia, before migrating to southern Africa, India, and Australasia during the winter in large flocks. Though not sporting a particularly spatula-like beak, it is genetically most similar to the members of Spatula, and so it is placed here. The males have brown heads and a broad white crest over the eye, giving them a very distinctive look. The females have strong face markings as well, though they are very visually similar to females from the Common Teal. They feed by skimming, and breed in quiet marshes in Northern Europe.

The Northern Shoveler is by far one of the most distinctive looking ducks, also thankfully not threatened with extinction. They breed in northern Europe and Asia and North America, and then spend the winter in southern Europe, Africa, India, Southeast Asia, and Central - South America. They breed primarily along large bodies of water, such as the Great Lakes. They live primarily in open wetlands, especially marshes and wet grasslands. They are very migratory, and are found much further south during the winter, with their seasonal ranges not overlapping. More than five million birds can even be seen in a flock at a time.

The Northern Shoveler is especially distinctive due to its very long spatulate bill, which they use by swinging from side to side to strain food in the water while dabbling. They forage for aquatic invertebrates by using comb-like projections, called lamellae, on the edges of the bill that aid in skimming off crustaceans from the water’s surface. This gives them a huge advantage over other species of duck in gathering food, and they specialize in muddy marshes with a lot of invertebrates to get the most food. They nest in grasses away from open water in shallow holes, with the males defending the females very extensively during the incubation period. They are fairly quiet ducks, weighing only about 600 grams.

The Hottentot Teal, also not threatened with extinction, is a dabbling duck in this genus from Africa - specifically Sudan, Ethiopia, Niger, Nigeria, South Africa, and Namibia. They breed year round, depending on the rainfall, living in small groups or in pairs. They build their nests in tree stumps with vegetation, and they have limited parenting after hatching, mainly just providing protection. They live primarily in shallow bodies of water, feeding on both plants and animals.

The Puna Teal is another very distinctive species in this genus, with a beautiful blue beak in both sexes. They’re found in the Andes Mountains of Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina, primarily in lakes and pools. They live in small groups, laying their eggs in long grass sometimes far away from water. They may even be monogamous for life, or at least for many breeding seasons. They are about the same size as the Wood Duck, and are brown and black speckled on the rest of their bodies.

The Silver Teal also has a bright blue bill, with yellow patches on the top. They are not threatened with extinction, and currently found in Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, South Georgia, the South Sandwich Islands, and the Falkland Islands. They then migrate to Brazil during the colder months, those that live in more southern and chilly lands. They are very protective of their young, with both parents rearing the ducklings, and potentially pair-bonding for a long time. They feed on vegetables in freshwater in small groups.

The Red Shoveler, also not very threatened with extinction, sports a very spatula-like bill, though not quite as distinctive as that of the Northern Shoveler. The most distinctive thing about this duck is its bright red plumage, spotted black. They can weigh up to 600 or so grams. They breed in Tierra del Fuego to Chile and most of Argentina, as well as the Falkland Islands. They live primarily in shallow lakes and pools with dense reeds and marshes. They then margrate more northward during the winter. They can sometimes be found in brackish water and estuaries as well.

The Cinnamon Teal is found in Western North and South America, breeding in the western United States, wintering in Mexico, and found year-round along the western coast of South America and in southern Argentina. The males are distinctively reddish brown, hence the name; while the females are brown and mottled like most other female ducks. The males also have bright red eyes, while the females have black eyes. They are not threatened with extinction, and feed by dabbling on plants, molluscs, and aquatic insects.

The Blue-Winged Teal is found primarily in North America, and isn’t considered threatened with extinction. They breed across northern North America, migrate through the central United States, and winter in Mexico and northern South America. These ducks are mottled brown, with blue patches on their wings and blue-grey bills. They migrate in large flocks between their breeding and wintering ranges, sometimes flying over open ocean. They live mostly along the shoreline, preferring calm bodies of water such as inland marshes, lakes, ponds, pools, and shallow streams. They build their nests in dry grassy sites like meadows and hayfields, though fairly close to open water. They feed on a variety of vegetation in mudflats and shallow water, though they also can be found feeding on mollusks and other invertebrates. They are the first ducks south in the fall and the last ones north in the spring, giving them a limited breeding time; they are usually the last dabbling ducks to nest. The Cape Shoveler is known primarily from South Africa, though is sometimes found as far north as Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Angola, Lesotho, Mozambique, and Zambia. They are non-migratory and form very large flocks. Their large spatula bills are once again used for filtering food by swinging from side to side, though they primarily eat vegetation and only eat molluscs and insects during the nesting season. The Australasian Shoveler is our last species in this genus, also not threatened with extinction. They live in Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand. The males have reddish feathers like the Red Shoveler, and grey and white patterned heads; while the females are more brown and mottled throughout. They have extensive courtship vocalizations, and unfortunatelymales will often pursue females already paired up for the season. Courtship fights are, thus, very common. Sometimes the females will even defecate on males who they find unworthy in the middle of flight. Mating usually happens around October, though it can occur as early as August.
