love that Beau shows Caleb that she's trustworthy by not sharing his history with the rest of the group, and he becomes immediately ride or die. literally yesterday he and nott still had one foot out the door, and now he's like, casting haste on her to help her win a fight against jester, making horribly awkward friendly overtures, engaging in witty rapport... god he's so autistic I love him so much

Caleb  hums  softly,  his  chest  rumbling  beneath  Essek's  ear.  He  brings  a  hand  up  to  stroke  the  drow's  silky  white  hair,  twirling  a  strand  around  his  finger.  “A  garden  worm,  then.  I  would  keep  you  safe  in  a  little  terrarium,  with  plenty  of  rich  soil  to  burrow  in.  And  I  would  feed  you  the  choicest  leaves  and  vegetable  scraps.”

There  is  no  right  answer  to  this  question,  hopefully,  his  is  satisfactory.  “But  I  would  miss  our  conversations  and  your  brilliant  mind.”

he   smiles   at   the   initial   answer,   shifting   positions   so   his   head   is   propped   up against   the   human's   chest.   his   fingers   run   up   and   down   caleb's   arm,   appreciating   the   soft   feel   of   his   hair.   does   his   partner   run   warmer   than   others?   or   perhaps   it's   the   significance   he   holds   in   essek's   mind   that   always   makes   him   feel   so.

The more I look at widogast and zarra the more absurd this concept is

Lawful neutral warforged, who's 950 years old. He was sent off by the BBEG (a man who presents as a jsut ruler of his kingdom) to help the Golden Kingdom against the goblin hordes. He was part of just thr 2 platoons sent out. Thry all fucking died. His soul? Snatched. Put into a robot. Full memories. Runes in an obelick like substance to have the face. Expected to keep serving. He ran away, everyone in his platoon killed for fear of more runaways. He had a family while serving. Theyre long dead. Its now cyberpunk anesthetics. Hes been avoidant of people but still integrated into societies od the different kingdoms. Steals from other warforged parts he finds or from those he kills to keep his parts maintained. His knees are garbage. This fukcing 15 year old changeling accidentally clocks him while trying to randomly knock him out. Manages to not shoot her, she tells him her secrets. . Now they travel together. She's 20 and he'd die for her. There are no secrets to be had, but he spares her of all the details. Hes in charge of the financials so she doesn't spend it all on coffee. He has a -2 in charisma.

Chaotic Neutral changeling made a pact with the sleep god to minimize need for sleep. Sleeps once a week for 12 hours, unwakable. Coffee isn't addictive but caffeine still affects her, she has to make people sleep in exchange for this. Shes a wild magic sorcerer because of genetic connection to this God as well. Trained most of her childhood into perfecting these magica with her grandpa. Goes to a coffee shop a few months after the pact is made and sees the most pathetically tired middle aged man in her life. Casts sleep. It fails. She accuses him and he panics and she rapid fire shoots some secrets at him to put her at an equal risk or some shit. She manages to convince him to let her travel with him to explore. She's the one in control of the situation. She's the social one, the talking one, the thinking one (even if she's at 16 int and he's at 18 int). She rides the side car of his motorcycle. She has a camel pack full of coffee at all times. She has a passive perception of 17

Hes lawful neutral in terms of his own creed. The creed is to protect his people, his platoon, his men. He won't go out of his way to give a fuck about anyone else. He doesn't believe in getting involved in peoples lives,, but he will if she does. He is the most passively suicidal person you'll ever meet, but then this fucking changeling wormed into his life and now he cant.

Shes chaotic neutral in thr way she protects her own, but does whatever it takes to get there. Getting her fix is huge too. She's fine with murder, robbery, high stakes, low stakes. She is incredible charismatic, able to get her way. She respects his opinion, but knows he'll fall to hers at a moments notice. Subconsciously, she's abusing this fact, but she'd kill for him as he'd die for her.

absolutely devastated over how fondly caleb looks at essek. like he looks at him with this half-cocked eyebrow and soft little smile, like he knows him better than he himself does, like they're sharing a million secrets without saying a word, like essek is the only person on his eyes; just deeply intimate and simply fond. and i know this is just the way caleb is, i know that when he looks at somebody he stares right into their soul and leaves a piece of himself there too, i know this is just how he is, but that does not make it any less special, any less butterflies-on-stomach inducing, maybe it even makes it even that much more earthshaking. like i cannot believe they get there, that against all odds, against all the squints and distrustful, distasteful, deceiving and calculated, cold, cold looks they shared before they get there; caleb gets to the point of looking at essek fondly, tenderly, and essek looks back just as soft, just as all encompassing, all consuming. they look at each other like they're in a joke that nobody is on, like the world around them is hazy around the edges, like they're both constantly, always, privately, in the ninth floor of the tower or the astral sea or the inside of a beacon, where all the infinity possibilities are on the table. they look at each other like they are endless & starving for it. im dizzy i need to sit down

I love the idea of the onwatch discussion about Caleb's feelings and I totally can see Jester forcing it out if him but given that Caleb has also had feelings for Jester making it challenging for him to talk to her about new romance, I would LOVE to see Beau call him out on his crush empire siblings style and then talk about how she got over Jester and found Yasha and how happy she is now and she can just nudge him in the direction of being open and honest the way Beau often does with Caleb. Idk maybe I just want the wlw and MLM solidarity or just the sibling dynamic but I would love to see that.

Alternatively! Beau calling Essek out on HIS crush in a protective older sister way but like ending with a "obviously you dorks are perfect for eachother but if you hurt him I'll kill you".

YESSSS yes yes it would be so great! The empire kids totally need to talk about that. I absolutely love the way you described it, it would be so on brand. I am here for both solidarity and the dynamic. Can’t wait for the conversation to happen, whoever it may be, really. (And considering the CR Relationship Development Pattern™ the chances are not so small 👀)

Also, Jester interrogating Essek about his so obvious crush during a night watch is an image that got stuck in my head lately. Just imagine the chaos and the sheer panic on Essek’s face. Beautiful.

The thing that gets me sometimes is how Caleb reacts to the Brenattos in general.

Let me explain.

Caleb, despite being jealous is one of the biggest voices that reminds Veth of her family, of Yeza, but he will consistently leave Yeza out a lot, avoid speaking to him unless it is absolutely necessary and sometimes even tacking him on as an after thought.

People can argue with me of course, but Liam O’Brien is one of the most specific people I have ever watched deliver a scene and in the dome he says “Veth and her child” not “Veth and her family” just “Her child.”

Which would lead a person who sits there and visualises a scene to draw the conclusion that Yeza is absent from the illusion, which seems very intentional to me as an artist and a storyteller, it’s a glimpse and it is one I do not forget lightly.

However Caleb, reminds Veth that she’s married, which can also read as him reminding himself that she’s married and thus unattainable.

When Caleb must interact with a member of the Brenatto family outside of Veth he chooses to talk to Luc, he chooses to remember Luc exists, for he is the one that Caleb places in the Dome for Veth to look at and remember.

In 112, Caleb doesn’t reassure the one who is worried about Veth, he chooses to reassure Luc, who finds the situation cool and hopes for a good story when his Mother returns.

In the tower, he makes Luc a play room, himself and Veth a workshop and adds on that Yeza could use it as well, Caleb acts with purpose in these things and it doesn’t escape my notice that Yeza is either presented as an immediate thought, a reason why or is an after thought or worse forgotten entirely.

There’s a pattern to it and a methodical element that raises my eyebrows.

And dammit, if I was right about not giving up on Fjorester because I could see Travis’ body acting and language usage change, I can be a little right about this I think.

i wasn’t expecting caleb to act on his knowledge of essek’s attraction to him (presumably what he learnt from the whisper, and from what liam has said on talks machina), and this changes so much, because essek was always seen as the one who’s flirtier, but now caleb is stepping that up (definitely for his own and the nein’s gains, mind you)

i personally adore the ship, and i know there’s the power imbalance and the way they’re mutually using each other, but this makes everything so dramatic and i am HERE for this
