Little Ghost is now also Lord of Shades (pretty sure that's what happens iirc), but in the awake world, just goes back to its vessel body (cuz of shade soul charm or something idk I'm making this up as I go), but its tiny little body can barely hold the void god which presents some problems

Ghost is still them but Something is Definitely Different. The air around them seems colder and more dense in a way you wouldn't expect from someone so tiny. Just makes them all the more unsettling.

Most bugs don't know why, just "hm they're creepier than usual"

Bugs who know enough about the void can figure out what's up (like Bardoon, and WL).

Going back to PK, reincarnated he would be a little more wrymy and a bit less buggy than than the 1st time he reincarnates.

He probably tries to fix up THK some, knows there's only so much he can do with all that they've been through, but 1- he's a bit attached 2- gives him something to do for a while

Ah, I've been asked about the red eyes in chapter 17 quite a few times and if you read the update, I didn't mention it in that either. The truth of the matter is...

I don't remember 😅.

Well, to be more accurate, I remember who I intended it to be, but not the details such as how or why. BUT! I can say that it was not Madara or a shadow clone of Tobi (Tobirama? Or do you mean Obito?). The plot point I sort of recall from back then doesn't make much sense to my current self... though it could be tweaked to work out. Regardless, it would be a big spoiler if told you the name.

A lot of readers who asked me about this usually pointed straight to Madara, but that's not the case. With the way he's written in DoaM, there's just no way in hell he'd be able to hold himself back in that situation. Even in canon, Tobirama seems to be the person he despises the most for many reasons (killing Izuna and always getting in his way). So, he would've been through that window so fast if he saw him hugging Sakura or gripping her wrist.

Anyway, thanks for the ask! Sorry I can't just give you the answer, but all will be revealed in time. I have some details to work out and there's still a lot more of this story to get to. It was originally a one-shot, then kind of a series of one-shots that cover different points in time. Now it seems I'm just running with the current course and seeing where it takes me. That's what I get for being a pantser lol.

Marvus: It's pretty tough since he's a celebrity, so buying him things is basically out of the equation. He seems like the type to buy things and use it maybe once, maybe never. If he wants it, he'd simply buy it. With that being said, there's absolutely nothing better than something handmade. He's very fond of homemade things, especially cooking. He can afford food at the most expensive restaurants out there but it hits dif when your partner cuts the crust of your sandos 😳. If I'm rolling up my sleeves though, he knows it's business, so he very casually follows me to the kitchen and provides very Amazing and Cool commentary on what I'm doing. He really said macaroni in the pot 😔. My spoon and his hand are sworn enemies- since he loves to play taste tester but more often than not, a bite turns into half a plate and he stands like ;o) oops. 

Pair that with a nice cuddle session n it's heaven. Touring for long periods of time can take a lot out of a guy. The energy of the crowd really pumps him up but by the end of the tour, all that fatigue hits him hard n he's ready for some TLC. It's accepted that he loves having his hair played with and I 100% believe that. Gotta do the man a favor and drag his ass to the shower though. I will not tolerate his nasty, sweat and he's like ':o/ dam b'. but it's ':o) damn b' once he realizes it's hair scrubbin time. He knows it's pampering hours and said 'head massage pls n thk u <3'

Zebruh: Same deal. Considering his caste, he's pretty well off and whatever he wants, he can simply buy it himself. This makes it extremely hard to gift him things as well - not like I'd truly go out of my way to gift hunt for him. (To be fair, gift hunting is a pain in general and I'd only do it for a select few people. He is not one of them.) Will he try arguing w/ me in front of other people to 'slam me' with his amazing lowblood activist spiel? Yes. Will he get mad when I make Points and proceed to reject my view bc im a seadweller? Yes. Pampering him means 'mercy' bc I'm too tired to really fight him on anything / I may disagree with everything he's saying but in his mind he's 'dominating' the conversation, therefore he wins because he was not interrupted. 

I digress; If I had to be nice to him, I'd let him drag me around wherever he wants to go n let him fuck around (within reason). Does that mean a weird date? Sure. He's paying so I can't complain that much. Throwing random thoughts, headcanons, and a variety of pasta at the wall (but only those having to do with vessels and/or their biology this time): The Thrilling Third Installment™

Thk's larger form is not the standard, but the exception. Thk was cited as being "raised and trained to prime form", which people take to mean pk assisted in the vessel's natural growth. However, that conclusion leaves a lot of unanswered questions, most important of which being “then what about Ghost?” In short, I think that train of thought is backwards. Vessels can't grow- they are ageless, and immortal. We know this due to Ghost, despite living as long if not longer than thk, being completely unchanged over the years. The only thing pk trained into "prime form" was thk’s mind and fighting prowess. Their body... well, I think it was mutated. Most likely either directly by pk, or ordered by him- and with the shenanigans happening over in the sanctum, I wouldn't be surprised if Soul was involved, too. In any case, it was in no means natural. Vessels are corpses reanimated by void; neither corpses nor void tend to make drastic changes on their own all that often. Whether pk predicted the vessel’s “issues” and intended to manually “upgrade” them from the beginning, it's hard to say. But... yeah. Unless Ghost goes out of their way to make themselves grow- if its even possible, now that pk is gone- its fairly safe to say, they never will.

...with that in mind, we are promptly gonna ignore that for the rest of this post lmaooo

Grown-up vessels wouldn't look like thk; while they are described as being raised into "prime form"... prime form, to whom? Rather than looking like an idealized pk soldier, it sounds much more fitting that they’d have an entirely different, natural adult form. Consider: their cloaks being longer and fuller, perhaps filling out into something with a more practical use to their “species”. Better yet, they could even grow up to be more beast-like. Feral vessels, YEhaW

The black egg temple is cited as being "built to sustain [vessels]", yet it can't be their lifespan that is sustained. Rather, it seems the egg is specifically designed to keep the radiance from tearing thk apart, physically and/or mentally. Ngl its p obvious, but worth noting.

Sorta-au where Ghost’s shade has 8 eyes, and/or is generally all-around more cryptid-looking.

@ the sharpshadow charm and the strange, 6-eyed creature their shade turns into: kudos to this post, they bring up something super interesting- the creature not only resembles the Shade Lord, but the lord outright becomes it during the Embrace the Void cutscene.

makes me respect the ol’ civilization a whole lot more if a single charm can turn a baby shade into a baby lord.

The concept of finding ghosts unconscious body, laying next to a corpse, while they battle in their dreams. Alt: when ghost enters the dream realm, their shade leaves their shell... And protects their body from harm.

If steel soul mode is taken as canon, just how did ghost and the shade meet? Alt: Ghost may never have “met” it at all, as it technically doesn’t exist in that mode- instead, its more of a metaphor than an actual entity.

What the vessels looked like- or were supposed to look like- before the void. Alt: a story following a child, alive and untouched, that somehow managed to be spared. They could even have a gender. Alt alt: the void intentionally spared them for some purpose, or even out of simple kindness- or at least, something that resembles kindness.

Re: the shade inexplicably having a nail: all the vessel's swords are crafted from “will-bearing rock”- of which i’ve come to lovingly call living stone- and as such, are of void themselves. That's how the shade seems to conjure up its own copy; it merely shapes it, from the ground, using void. And, while more of a stretch, Ghost’s nail being some sort of living stone/pale ore alloy could explain just how Ghost can do seemingly pretty crazy things with an otherwise ordinary nail. Better, while 100% a baseless hc, its material might actually enable Ghost to build it up and modify it to suite their size as they grow older. finally, a logical reason adult Ghost has an adult-sized nail-claymore. hdsfghjfghdsjf

On that same thought: Ghost outright invented the "art" of manipulating- or creating- living stone to make their nail. ...gimme a sec. The other escaped vessels have nails, too, right? Either meaning they also discovered this ability... or that theres some legitimate ground for the “vessel gang” hc. Or, yanno, i’m reading too much into Ari’s sprites but sHHhh

How did all the vessels know to race to the top? They seemed to be falling merely because they had just been born and had literal, actual baby strength; yet not only did they inexplicably risk everything competing to the top, they somehow knew death was waiting if they lost. Alt: pk just, bringing a fucking megaphone and telling them like a sports announcer.

What if Ghost made it, and instead of falling, they managed to joined thk at the lip? What would pk do? Push them off the edge??? Or just adopt them both?? Oh fuck au where they're raised as twin sacrifices. Or worse yet, they’re raised unequally, and one is trained only as an afterthought. As a backup.

Alternatively, pk keeps all the vessels au, only a few years later when they're grown. Pk now has a literal army of pure knights. Radiance is fucked.

Hm. If vessels were fully coherent entities from the moment of birth, why was there a crib in the white palace? Did... did they use it? I have a feeling team cherry made that asset before the abyss scene lmaooo alt: they did, uh, use the crib. Cue a very awkward scene of thk, clearly not a normal baby, staring at wl with like... idk, the poofy baby hat and pacifier. I can’t tell if the image is more funny or more sad rn shdfgfjsdgg

The og notes that inspired this post, in case my rambling makes more sense (and w/o the awful comic hjsfgjsdfhj): Oh oh OH i GET it now. The void is all about "will" and whatnot, right? And shades are "fragments of a lingering will"- will, like the one you leave after your death, but instead of inheritance its the vessels' desires...last regrets.... DAMN team cherry, that symbolism is clever as heck. That took me a while. Kinda funny how a will is, technically, a person's last regrets Like I knew they were last regrets but I didn't understand WHY. Duh, it's because they're literally Made Of Will. They are the vessel's "wills". I'm so stupid.

Ghost, walking thru the abyss, getting increasingly fed up / freaked out, ducking into a crack in the wall. They follow the crack into the Scream Chamber, pause, then exhale in relief that this was EXACTLY what they needed.

Ghost's shade rolling up its void-sleeves like “fuck it, ima defeat thk myself”

Why was thk's sword there? Was its pedestal decayed? Did it fall from their body? Was it place there as an afterthought, or hurriedly? alt: taking thk's sword before freeing them, but doing the mom thing like you're grounding them hdhfjchjch

I can’t believe it just occured to me now, but... as objectivley stupid as the vessel’s test was, Ghost... technically came in second place. What if that whole scene was a metaphor? Because really, it’s just too silly to take seriously. To do so isn’t too far fetched, either; many other elements in the game’s story are better taken as symbolic or metaphorical, anyways. Take the PoP cutscene- while it could’ve been a literal moment, where they just happened to find themselves standing around and took the moment to appreciate each other... imo it makes much more sense to read it as the concept of their faint ~forbidden love~ and parental pride itself. Or, better yet, the scene at the end of the 4th pantheon. Sorry, but I severely doubt that was an actual event. What I’m trying to get at is the significance of “second place” in the cutscene. My brain is too fried to chase down any other possible connections to this theme rn (if thats even what the theme is), but even without proof, the theory smooths out a few interesting tidbits related to just how Ghost could tough it out when all others failed. All except for #1, anyway. Either way I’m just happy to take this as an excuse to pretend that cutscene didn’t literally happen because like, l m a o

The story of a small group of vessels as they work together to escape hallownest. (aka the aforementioned vessel gang hc... im sure theres a more formal name but you get the idea). Its impossible to tell how long it took them to discover that near-invisible hole, the last exit remaining after the king ordered the abyss to be sealed up. Once they did, however, the remaining vessels were quick to make a desperate scramble to escape- only for the entrance to suddenly crumble shut, far, far too soon. The remaining 8 slowly made their way through deepnest, their numbers quickly dwindling as the jouney started to take its toll. The group was nearly wiped out by those terrible, spiney-legged creatures that used their own kinship against them. Only three finally escaped the deep, yet only two made it through the basin- the third, largest sibling, left to fight alone againt a hopeless battle, just to buy the others time. It was in greenpath, so close yet so far to their goal, that the second succumbed to the infection. It was a mercy killing, that nail through the heart. The last, after all of that, finally made their way to the very precipice of howling cliffs, hesitating for just a moment to gaze out upon the still-fresh ruins of hallownest. But only for a moment, before Ghost jumps down to begin their journey beyond this wretched place.

A vessel running from its shade as it tirelessly pursues them, the vessel refusing to put it to rest.

Ugh ugh ugh ugh Either thk was fully conscious and in terrible pain for all those years... or they couldn’t feel anything at all. The former is horrible, but imagining thk waking up, chained, unable to do anything but wait for Ghost to heed their call? Did they turn their nail on themselves to help Ghost, end the pain, or some awful mix of both? For someone who has personally dealt with close friends and family that struggled with suicide themselves, hollowknight is one of the worst horror stories I've ever seen. And the fact that the story is so personal, so open to interpretation? The fact that each character is so genuine yet vague enough to be read completely differently to someone else’s biases? Its why hollow knight- the game, and the character- will forever be one of the most powerful stories to me.

The first thing I tried to do was any% because it's a pretty short category and one of the achievements is finishing the game in under 5 hours anyway. I would literally be fine EXCEPT for Watchers. I hate those rolly bastards so much. THK does kill me too but it's honestly a fun fight with that equipment (and no where close to wk kill count)

I've watched a lot of 112 runs. Like. A lot. An embarrassing amount almost. If it wasn't for the skill involved I could follow the route in my sleep. As much as I would like to run it I haven't even achieved 112 in a personal save file yet, which was also why I was so excited about 107 getting an official leaderboard! Also, I was trying to learn all skills before 107 came out, but I got stuck on learning the cpeaks dark room. (Which I mean... you have to learn for most routes anyway :P)

Also maybe worth mentioning I'm a "casual" speedrunner if that makes any sense? I play on my switch and I don't have a capture card, so I won't be able to submit any runs from there. Also I'm not particularly good at the game, I just do it because it's fun. If I actually learn 107 though I will probably at least try to submit something on speedrun.com because like... *buzzes excitedly* fun! Unfortunately due to schooling and other time commitments I can't spend every hour dedicated to playing/ practicing (which according to my file testing the route that is just me dying repeatedly to lost kin I NEED)

5 good qualities:

- gave us hornet!!! god i love hornet. hornet is a good quality.

- she’s clearly a very strong person!! like holy fuck!! (also i am gay)

- she sacrificed a lot for her kingdom, and wasn’t above working with people she hated to get shit done (hence why i believe in a dreamers alive au she would end up forming an alliance with the mantis tribe at some point)

- good mom herrah is the hill i will die on

- stared down pk and won. i highly doubt hornet was an option until herrah Made Her An Option. being able to stare down a god as a “common beast” is definitely a good quality.

3 bad qualities:

- maaaayyyybe she... should have taken a closer peek at thk. i headcanon her as very much Headstrong, and somewhat inflexible once she has a good plan,,, and that can work very well!!! but also sometimes it,,, doesn’t.

- herrah certainly left hornet with a sense of Debt,, like i know she didn’t think hallownest was going to fall, but she did have a kid as an heir and that is a lot of weight to put on a kid that doesn’t even exist yet. like. i love her lots and respect that she had to do what was best for her kingdom and i don’t know what else she could have done but... hornet is a little Fucked Up for reasons that are at least partially herrah’s fault. i love herrah but as somebody who’s been the kid in that situation i am like “i know this and i love u and i don’t know what else you could have done but also,,, i gotta admit that was a Little Fucked Up”

- okay complicated feelings about herrah over with, her third bad quality is that she’s hard to draw and i want to draw her so bad :(

My thoughts on the Sanders Sides Spotify playlists- Virgil Edition!

Note: this is Purely me saying whether or not I like the songs, not theorising about any deeper meanings. I’ve done them all, so just click on the names to see my reactions to the others: Patton, Roman, Logan, Janus

Impressions from looking through the playlist: I don’t specifically know most of the songs (I know more of the bands), but I feel like that’ll be a recurring theme as I tend to stick within my very specific music taste and only add songs to my playlists if I hear them while I’m out and about and like them enough to find them on Spotify, which means my horizons aren’t broadened very often. The ones I do know do not surprise me that much (neither do the bands, for that matter), as they feel very Virgil

1: ‘Sunrise, Sunset’, by Bright Eyes. I didn’t mind it at first? But the chorus was a bit too,,, shouty for me. Probably Definitely a song I’d skip if it came up on a playlist in the future, as much as I liked the tune(/melody?). Not surprised to find it on Virgil’s playlist though, it gives off Angst. Was very in my face as I tried to continue reading fics.

2: ‘Lets Kill Tonight’, by Panic! At The Disco. One that I have probably heard before, as while I myself didn’t have an emo music phase, an ex friend did. I liked it more, as I expected to as I tend to like p!atd’s songs. Not one that I’d go out of my way to listen to again, but has been added to my 32 hour long playlist on Spotify (not my slightly more curated 10 hour one tho, but I mostly play the 10 hour one while doing work or while others are around soo). Once again felt like it suited Virgil, (as I imagine all of them will, so I might just call out ones that feel Odd if any do.)

3: ‘Sally’s Song’, by Amy Lee. It might shock some of y’all, but not one I’ve really heard before! I live in Australia so Halloween’s not a massive thing and I actually don’t know that many people who’ve watched The Nightmare Before Christmas. Thomas is actually one of the main reasons I know that the movie exists. I really liked it, unsurprisingly, so it too made its way to my 32 hour playlist (not the ten hour one, but only because I try to keep mostly ‘normal’ songs on there so there’s not that many songs from movies in it)

4: ‘It Ends Tonight’, by The All-American Rejects. I recognised the band, but not the title. I think I’ve heard this before though- I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it. I wouldn’t skip it if it popped up in a playlist at some stage in the future, but I haven’t added it to either of my playlists.

5: ‘I’d Hate To Be You When Everyone Fonds Out What This Song Is About’, Mayday Parade. Very long title (ok, I know in emo song title standards it’s not even that long but as I said I didn’t really have an emo phase so these sorts of titles always shock me) that slightly confuses me (who’s you? why is what the songs about bad for them??), but I liked it! Is now on my 32 hour playlist. I suspect that at the end of listening to all of these it will be longer than 32 hours.

6: ‘A Decade Under The Influence’, Taking Back Sunday. Another one that I liked enough that I wouldn’t skip it in the future, but didn’t add to my playlist. I just didn’t vibe with it enough. Happened to line up with Roman having a Bad Feeling™ in the fic I was reading tho so that was entertaining

7: ‘Thks fr th mmrs’, by Fall Out Boy. This was the first song to invoke feelings of Nostalgia™ in me, and I’m kinda shocked it’s not already in my 32 hour playlist. That has been remedied. This song was played a fair bit in my childhood, both on the radio and by an older sister. I imagine a lotta people my age had a similar thing. Obviously one I Love. Got me to stop reading in favour of being a doofus by lip syncing and dancing around while lying in bed (and deafening my eardrums as I turned it up louder) during the chorus.

8: ‘Be Calm’, by Fun. This was the second song that I didn’t recognise either the title or the band for. I liked it, even though the initial warped carnival-esque tune thing made me think of Pennywise. Pretty much as soon as the singing started I added it to the 32 hour playlist. It might make its way to the shorter one one day, as I actually really like it. It’s just a bit odd, and as I said I try to keep that playlist to more ‘conventionally normal’ songs as it’s designed for me to be able to play around other people without getting weird looks.

9: ‘I’m Not Okay (I Promise)’, by My Chemical Romance. Let’s be real. I would’ve cried if this song wasn’t included in the playlist. You would’ve cried if this song was not included in this playlist. If all of their songs aren’t in their respective playlists I’ll be disappointed. This song being in the playlist prompted me to go back and rewatch that episode. so many jokes originate in that ep. also we only knew one name back then? and the dark sides were barely a blip on our radars??? how????? ok back to the song- not my favourite, but I wasn’t expecting it to be. Probably won’t skip it every time it comes up in the future, but it’s definitely not my cup of tea.

10: ‘Imaginary’, by Evanescence. I laughed when I realised this was next up, as rewatching the q&a reminded me that Virgil said they were his favourite band so I’d noted that I had to look out to see if any of their songs were on the playlist. I liked it enough to add it to the 32 hour playlist, but wouldn’t go out of my way to play it in the future.

11: ‘Soft Shock- Acoustic Version’, by Yeah Yeah Yeahs. When this started my first thought was ‘oh, I think I’m gonna really like this one!’ and my second was ‘I’m kinda surprised it’s on Virgils playlist, but it feels right somehow.’ (It made more sense as I listened to the lyrics, I think I was just massively caught off guard by it being acoustic). I hadn’t heard of either the song or the band before this, but my initial instinct was Correct and it has in fact.... made it onto the ten hour playlist!! Hell yeah!! I actually liked it enough to listen to the og version as well, which I still liked but slightly less. (Also I have heard some of their music before as I realised looking at the album this came from that my one of my sisters used to listen to them, which I’m not that surprised about as we have Similar tastes in music)

12: ‘The Good That Won’t Come Out’, by Rilo Kiley. I liked this enough to consider adding it to my 32 hour playlist, and the lyrics were interesting, I just didn’t vibe with it that much. 🤷‍♀️

13: ‘Sick Sad World’, by Nervus. The bands name feels very apt for Virgil. I liked the rhythm of this one, and it was also a Certified Mood tbh. Got added to the 32 hour playlist!! Also made me wanna hug Virgil.

14: ‘Ignorance’, by Paramore. I wasn’t expecting to love this, as I don’t remember really liking much of Paramore’s music in the past even though I know I must’ve heard some, but I didn’t hate it. Didn’t get added to either of my playlists, but I probably wouldn’t skip it in the future.

15: ‘The Ice Is Getting Thinner’, by Death Cab for Cutie. I was expecting to like this one, as one of my favourite youtuber’s fave songs is a death cab for cutie song and I really like it as well. I did like this one quite a bit, but it only made its way onto my 32 hour playlist.

16: ‘Overkill- Acoustic Version’, by Colin Hay. I didn’t mind this, but didn’t like it enough to put it on the 32 hour playlist. I possibly would like the original version more, but I can’t be bothered finding it especially given my first impression is just meh

17: ‘Under Pressure’, by My Chemical Romance. I didn’t love it as much as I love the original, but it did prompt me to check if I’d added the original to my two playlists. Apparently I didn’t, even though I was listening to a Lot of Queen when I was deeply entrenched in good omens.

18: ‘Everything is Alright’, Motion City Soundtrack. I liked this one! I think I might’ve heard It before, but it’s been a while. It got added to the 32 hour playlist.

19: ‘The Middle’, by Jimmy Eat World. I didn’t recognise the title b u t I did recognise the song. Obviously. Because I’m a gen z with older siblings. It was the second big nostalgia feels song, which was made even stronger by me not immediately recognising the title (unlike thks fr th mmrs). Was added to the 32 hour playlist as soon as I realised what song it was

20: ‘Vindicated’, by Dashboard Confessional. I knew this, but mostly from a music podcast called Punch up The Jam so hearing it in full was weird. Added it to the 32 hour playlist but wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to it again.

Final thoughts: I know I said I never had an emo phase in music, but I do actually like a lot of it even tho I was never That Kid, so I was kinda expecting to at least like a lot of these songs. My favourite song was definitely Be Calm, closely followed Soft Shock and Thks Fr Th Mmrs. 12/20 got added to my 32 hour playlist, and 2 (I eventually decided my love of Be Calm was strong enough for it to be an exception) to the 10 hour one!

curious good-faith q: i always interpreted ghost/the knight as being thk/pv's twin, or at least born from the same egg (the one you see below the abyss), and thus not a child, just not physically developed through the process of training the pure vessel. do u see them as being fundamentally younger than thk/not an adult while thk is? (that being said i don't ship ghost w/anyone and agree w your other points)

I see Ghost as THK's twin, but consider this.

If a child dies, and becomes a ghost, they are still a child as they had no time or room to mature, and develop. They are stuck in a consistent state of childhood.

We see a pre-teen or teenage Vessel in the game, Broken Vessel, and THK being an adult Vessel. Even though THK and Ghost are the same or similar age, Ghost never grew and matured into an adult, while Broken Vessel shows they were on the path to adulthood.

And while I've heard theories of Broken being the original Pure Vessel, thus why they've grown, it has less weight than "this is a Vessel that escaped, and was able to grow up in the time it took them to return to the ancient basin" to me. Being trained to prime form doesn't have to mean that it's the only way of growing. The word just before trained is "raised". They were raised to become an adult, to grow. The training was just an addition. The game even refers to the Hollow Knight as a "fully grown vessel." Implying they are the adult form of a vessel.

I get where many people come from, but the idea of Ghost being an adult despite being in the same body as they were when they were a newborn is incredibly uncomfortable to me. Ghost is just stuck in a prolonged childhood.

Why would they include Mato adopting them, and referring to them as his child. Or include Elder Hu referring to them as a child. Countless monikers that would be given to a child "Little Ghost", "Little friend", "Little shadow". Keeping them the same size and form as the Hollow Knight when they were a child, then having heavy implications they never grew up.

Harry moved closer to Draco and rested his hands over his to stir the sauce. 

“This is ridiculous,” Draco muttered. 

Harry laughed and tilted his head back, but didn’t take his hands away from Draco’s.

“You’ll get it,” Harry said. “I promise.”

Draco rolled his eyes, smiled slightly, and leaned back into Harry just the slightest bit. All of this was so new. This friendship. Draco didn’t know what was too much, and what wasn’t enough. Of course, it didn’t help that everything about Potter’s personality was stupid and adorable and sweet. One couldn’t help but crush on him. 

“You promise,” Draco snorted, leaning away from Harry. 

“Yes!” Harry insisted. 

“Potions is so much easier than this,” Draco said. 

“Well, cooking and potions are pretty similar…”

“Says you,” Draco says, giving Harry a look. 

“Oh hush,” Harry says. “You’re brilliant at potions, but terrible at cooking. And I’m good at cooking, but awful in potions. We’re the perfect team.”

Draco blushed a little. Team. He had said team, about the two of them. Draco and Harry. Who knew they would ever be a team, much less friends. 

“Right,” Draco said, trying to brush off Harry’s words. 

“Okay, that should be good,” Harry said as Draco finished chopping chives and put them in the sauce.

“Now what?” Draco asked. 

“Now we just wait, and let it cook,” Harry said, moving to sit over at the kitchen table. 

“We have to wait? Why can’t we just use magic?”

“Part of the magic of cooking is doing it the traditional way,” Harry said. “You have to wait and put time and work into it. There’s no shortcuts.”

“Magic of cooking?” Draco scoffed. “That’s so Muggle of you.”

“Draco,” Harry said shortly. 

“What?” Draco held up his hands. 

“Don’t say that.”

Crap. Everything Draco said or did seemed to be wrong. He couldn’t do anything right when it came to Harry. Or anyone for that matter. 

When Father was with his friends, putting people down made them laugh. That’s how Father had always been. Draco had never learned that wasn’t how things were supposed to be. It was what he was raised with, and he had never known differently. 

So when Harry Potter hadn’t wanted to be friends after Draco had bullied Weasley that day on the train, Draco had been beyond confused. He just had thought that was how people made friends. 

It had taken him awhile to realize that those people weren’t really Father’s friends, and that wasn’t how good people acted. That process hadn’t really began until after the war. After Draco had really met Harry Potter. 

“Sorry,” Draco sighed. “I didn’t mean that. I’m sorry.”

Harry shook his head. “Draco, you just… I don’t understand you.”

“What do you mean?” Draco looked up. 

“You say you’re trying so hard to change and unlearn your childhood, but sometimes it feels like you’re not trying at all.”

Draco immediately recoiled. Of course he was trying. Didn’t Harry see that? It took everything in him not to bite out some sort of insult and to walk over to sit next to Harry at the table. 

“I really am trying,” Draco said, looking Harry in the eye. “But maybe instead of trying to unlearn what I was taught, I need to…. use that to get better.”

“Okay…” Harry said. 

“It’s just,” Draco took a deep breath, “I keep trying to get rid of the past. The Dark Mark, the stupid choices I made, the person I was. Everything. I want it to go away, to forget about it. I tried to put it all on my parents. But I made the choices too. I knew people were being hurt, and I still didn’t turn it away. Because I was a coward, and because I was a bully.”

“Draco…”

“But maybe what I need to try to do rather than erasing all of this is to try to grow from it,” Draco said. 

A smile slowly took shape on Harry’s face. 

“What is it?” Draco asked, suddenly self conscious. 

“I’m just proud of you,” Harry grinned. “You’re a right git, you know.”

Draco rolled his eyes. 

“But you’re a git working for good.”

Being friends with Harry was hard. But in some ways, that was what made it so worth it.

“Love, the only Brazilian thing I know is the Lambada, I'm not ready to meet your family,” Ben whined, as you straightened his black t-shirt on his chest with both your hands, looking at him closely.

“It's already enough, we'll add some dancing moves and they'll think you're Brazilian too,” you joked, your hands on his chest and grinned.

“It's not funny, y/n,” he complained, putting his hands on yours. “I'm a mess, I'm not ready to meet them at all!”

“You're not meeting the Queen of England!”

“Would have been easier,” he sighed as you smacked his lightly and from his lips an “ay” escaped.

“See? Already having the good reflexes,” you stated, “besides, you're meeting my mom, dad and brother.”

“Oh my God, I'm meeting your brother,” he whispered looking down at his shoes.

Months of preparation. Months of telling him that he is perfect. Months of telling your mom that yes, your boyfriend existed but was too afraid to show up in your house. Months leading to right here, right now, Ben ready to chicken out as you were almost ready to go out and meet your family, the ones you loved the most.

And Ben had to meet them, there was no excuse. Now he stopped working for his movies, the hollow part of the year, or something like that, it was the right time to meet your family, right after Christmas and all the ecstatic movement around this. And as much as Ben looked confident in any situation, you knew he wasn't and this situation was the peak of the things he couldn't handle. A week before the d day, he began to tell you how sick he began to feel and that you should reschedule probably, but you insisted on taking care of him so he wouldn't end up totally sick, he also told you that probably his mom would call him and... And then you knew that the problem wasn't coming from the outside, but from the inside. As if you didn't notice. You took his hands in yours, smiling and kissing them, reassuring him that your family would love him as much as you love him. And you succeeded. Until now.

“My brother won't eat you alive Ben,” you said, a bit exhausted by all of this. “We'll be late if you don't speed up a bit, and my mom doesn't,” you had to stop mid sentence as you saw horror in his eyes. Your mom didn't like people being late, and he seemed to remember it, just right now.

“Oh bloody hell, I'm getting my car keys and we're going,” he urged you, storming out the room, “grab your purse and we're going!”

You smiled. How much you loved this man was insane.

“You think it's too late for me to run away,” he whispered into your ear after you rang the bell and your turned to look at him, with big, scary eyes, “joking. Joking. I won't run away. Don't look at me like that.”

“Don't be silly,” you whispered back, squeezing his hand quickly before you could hear anybody coming from behind the door. “They'll love you.”

“Minha filha,” you heard as the door opened, and your mother took you into her arms, hugging you really hard. “Missed you so much.”

“Missed you too, mama,” you replied, your voice muffled into her shoulder. “This is Ben, my boyfriend,” you presented him as he awkwardly smiled and reached for your mother's hand but instead she hugged him.

“Nice to meet you Ben,” she then said, pulling off and smiling. “Come on, come on! We're waiting with dinner for both of you, your brother is already cursing you for being late!”

“We're not even late,” you protested.

“Filha, you know for your brother's stomach it's always too late,” she laughed as she watched both of you enter the house.

“Heard it,” your brother yelled from the living room before showing up to greet you with a smile. “But you're forgiven, mama made some delicious food because you and your boyfriend would show up so, you're forgiven. Hey, I'm [brother's name], nice to meet you Ben,” he said to greet Ben and offered him his hand.

“Nice to meet you,” Ben smiled, you could see how uncomfortable he felt with your brother's hand in his, anticipating any move he would make.

“I'm not going to eat you alive,” he teased Ben as you looked at him, sighing, “might just cut you in half and grill you.”

“You, shoo to the living room,” your mother urged your brother to move as he winked at Ben with a smile and disappeared behind a curtain.

“Nice to know I'll be the dinner,” Ben said, making your mother and yourself chuckle.

“Wait until you know who'll be the desert,” your mother added looking at you.

“Mooom,” you whined, looking at her as she disappeared into the living room. “So? Still scared to death,” you asked Ben, putting up your sleeves a bit.

“We'll see if they really eat me or not,” he joked which made you roll your eyes and smile.

“Come and meet my dad!”

And that was the moment when Ben lost it all. You took him by the hand and he, mechanically, followed you, a hundred and one scenarios playing in his head about your father and how he should present himself politely.

And your dad sat on the couch, in the living room, your brother helping your mother to set the table for all of you. His palm began to sweat, but you were so genuinely happy to see your dad again that you somehow ignored it. But Ben didn't. Ben felt absolutely lost, and afraid, more frightened than afraid.

“Papa,” you said, as he looked at you fondly.

“y/n,” he said, standing up and hugging you; and then he looked at Ben.

“It's Ben, my boyfriend.”

“It's a pleasure Sir,” Ben solemnly said, holding his hand towards your father with a very shy smile. “Your daughter is an absolute treasure.”

“Oh yes she is,” your dad replied, taking his hand and shaking it before grabbing it with his two hands, “and I hope you are a treasure to her too.”

“Papa,” you complained, again, “why are you all doing this to me? Trying to get me all flustered?”

“Because we love you, stupid,” your brother yelled from the kitchen, “and because thanks to you mom made delicious food. Hope Ben will like it, otherwise I'm eating all that he leaves on his plate!”

“You stomach on two legs,” you complained, “Ben will eat his plate, don't you touch it you glutton!”

“Glutton yourself,” he said back, appearing in the living room with a plate of farofa in his hands, “as if some farofa wouldn't...”

“Ben, you'll love this,” you cut your brother off, taking your boyfriend by his hands as he just looked more and more confused. “My mom makes the best farofa in the world I swear!”

“Filha, that's nothing, it's nothing great,” your mother humbly replied as she showed you the table to sit. “Let's eat before it becomes cold and our new member of the family runs away before we can actually eat him properly,” she joked and Ben felt less and less tense.

He probably found his lambada, sun and sea, his lover and a new family gathering him with love, and acceptance. And he would be lying if he said that your brother didn't make him laugh as they spoke about football, that your mother didn't make him feel like home, that your father didn't impress him by his calm attitude and acceptance, that you didn't make this day so much better than he imagined and feared. The lambada of his dreams.

so, the point I really want to drive home is how much I am fascinated with godhome's ending once you have defeated the absolute radiance. at that point, according to hollow knight lore, you have attuned to every single godlike being there is in hallownest by defeating them at their ascended/most powerful form, and you are (to put it simply) on their wavelength.

so, what happens when you defeat an ancient god like the absolute radiance, the most powerful being in existence, and become attuned to it? you become that same creature.

in the godhome ending, ghost becomes pure void and devours all around them, starting with the godseeker (I think that's their english name?) and spreading all around. some make the point that they have successfully defeated the radiance in the dream's world, therefore the infection has been cured, others say that what was first the infection is now void (hence why the vines in the forgotten crossroads turn from orange to black). I believe it's the first option, and that's just the vines' natural color, but that's beside the point. whatever your pov is, there's a new god in town that has no purpose but devour; and THK was specifically raised to eliminate that, hence why they are seen leaving the black temple egg and meeting hornet.

in that ending, to put it as simply as possible, my personal read is that the player turns into a new, more fucked up version of the radiance.

now, in the "canon"* ending, when Ghost is climbing up to the radiance to defeat it once and for all, it's the opposite; the siblings aren't turned against each other - Ghost is helping THK fulfill their destiny. And it's the destiny they were ALL created to fulfill. The void swallows the radiance whole and all siblings die peacefully. after all the pain they have endured for what could be decades to centuries, it's over because they have fought alongside each other. THK even helps you by stabbing themselves multiple times during the fight as a sign that they want the player to meet and fight the radiance, to stop the infection. it's a desperate ask for help.

in one ending, Ghost and THK - separated by the pale king when one of them was chosen - realize that the only way to kill the radiance is by doing it together. in the other one, they are pitted against each other because little ghost becomes what they "should" have tried to kill.

idk. maybe I'm reading too much into it. maybe I'm just emotional. but the godhome ending left me so shocked the first time I saw it, I can't stop thinking about it.

*we really don't know which ending is canon. I guess silksong will have to clear that up for us
