My feelings towards ao3 this morning.

wow I didn’t think reblogging that tea post and then seeing people’s tags would deal me such strong psychic damage. come over I can fix you I can find a tea you will like. “I don’t like tea” how can you say that as a blanket statement when there are so many vastly different kinds of tea. head in hands

i think the most annoying part of dog food discourse is how many people will act as though proplan/hill’s/Royal canin diets aren’t extremely and prohibitively expensive and that THAT is the reason so many people look into healthy alternatives.

People complain about corn being in the first five ingredients on most of those feeds because, regardless of other factors here, that is not an expensive ingredient. But it makes up a large chunk of the dry food. So the dry food should be fairly affordable, right?

Oh… with tax you’re spending about $100 for one 45lb bag of food where the third ingredient is wheat and the fourth and fifth ingredients are corn.

Oh… well! It’s slightly cheaper! But the second ingredient is rice, third is wheat, fourth is corn, and then fifth is poultry byproduct. None of those are very expensive so this just must be the low end cost of dog food unfortunately. The vets recommend it so surely that means prices aren’t inflated, right?

Oh? This one has similar ingredients with the only real difference being no corn? And it’s half the price?? Well surely that’s just a fluke.

This one even has CORN in it and it’s $20 cheaper?? Wow!

Like listen at some point I don’t care if your dog food has the ichor of the gods in it, I’m not spending $100 every five days if there are cheaper options with just as many “good” ingredients in it. If you think I’m a dog abuser because I can’t afford this overpriced garbage, that’s too bad. I don’t care. My dogs are perfectly healthy with the food I give them. Great weight and great coat. People giving dog food recommendations that aren’t those top three hyper-expensive dog foods aren’t trying to epic own those dastardly vets half the time, but I really don’t blame the ones who do lose trust in vets when the only heartworm protection they recommend lately are expensive triple-action brands like Simparica Trio that costs $120+ as opposed to the other heartworm protections that are only about $40-$60 on average, which is still cheaper even if you add on a $20-$40 flea and tick protection separately, and only recommend dog food that costs $85+ a bag even if your dog doesn’t have specialized dietary needs.

Those top three foods are GREAT at making competent prescription diets, I don’t deny that. I do still have to criticize the pricing of those prescription diets though because I have spoken to DOZENS of people who had to pull their pets off of a prescription diet and struggle to find something comparable because they couldn’t afford the food, and that’s terrible! These are not poor companies! Purina, Royal Canin, and Hill’s can ABSOLUTELY afford to lower their prices to make their food accessible to people who need it for their animals but they don’t. They probably never will. Because at the core they are run by greedy corporations. It doesn’t matter how many good nutritionists are on board if the company is run by people who put profits over customers and make the food impossible for people to afford.

Thoughts on Dalv x Starlo

Corn yaoi isn't really my thing. Part of it is because they've only interacted once, but we can speculate about their future interactions, so it all depends on how the person sees their dynamic.

It's not the differences in personality that are a problem either (it can go either way, again, it's all subjective).

The issue I see are: 1) different climates and locations, and 2) completely different lifestyles.

Dalv would have to move to Wild East, but I don't think he'd be able to adjust to the Ff's goofy antics. WE is a tourist destination and idk, honestly I don't think the vampire man would fit well there. He needs his children's books and his solitude (even tho he's becoming more social). The high temperatures would also be a problem

If Star went to live with him in Snowdin, even bigger problem. He couldn't abandon Ceroba, the group, or his role as an entertainer (his biggest dream), or even his family, which lives nearby. Also, the low temperatures aren't for him. Poor guy would freeze; he's cut out for deserts

El Bailador on the other hand lives in the Dunes + is deeply passionate about something just like Star is so there would be no "You're acting too crazy please calm down" + I feel like Bail would be completely supportive and understanding and open with his emotions (unlike Ceroba who doesn't understand the amount of dedication Star has). I'm not crazy for the Dancing Stars ship, but to me it makes sense in every way.

I'm not sure what it would be like with Dalv since there's been only 1 interaction, but if they can work out their differences personality-wise and if their love languages match, I see the potential 100%. It's the more "practical" side of the relationship that makes me doubt it would work out, though. Only if it's long distance, imo. Who knows, maybe they'd both be ok with that. This is a hc for Star, but I think long distance isn't his thing. Dalv would be fine with it.

frankly i think the best way to differentiate fanon sky and canon sky is to take a look at groose's redemption arc. both forgive him for the bullying but fanon sky says "he didn't mean it!" Canon sky says "i deserved it"

Can’t stand it in stories when some manipulative evil killer manufactures a situation where the protagonists have to play along with some twisted, largely unrelated game under threat of the death of innocent people, and the protagonists always lose the game, because they’re normal human beings with empathy and compassion and emotions like ‘fear’ and ‘anger’, and the manipulative evil killer anticipated that and set up the situation so that it was impossible for such a human being to win, and then the rest of the story is all about the protagonist having an existential crisis because ‘I killed those people!’ My friend you did not. The manipulative evil killer did that. 

And yet somehow none of these protagonists, or the characters who try to reassure them that they’re not actually evil monsters in the aftermath, ever, ever seem to twig that a) the game was rigged from the start and b) they never had any real control over whether those innocent people lived or died.

For STS! Do you believe there are any particular tropes or themes you repeat in your work?

Yes.

I frequently explore themes related to identity (and the lack or construction thereof - often this is where second person comes in), so much about stories (metafiction is my bread and butter even in fanfic), immortality (and what that means/the consequences of it), loss/trauma/grief and how that can change/define a person, redemption arcs so many redemption arcs, and found family so much found family.

I'm also finding that I reuse - how do I word this - ugh, I want to call it the what is meat question, particularly within the context of seeing revolution as the answer to the world's problems - sometimes not revolution, but the radical options people take sometimes to try and fix things - whether they know (or care) that those radical options might also cause harm to other people around them.

That last one I think I do...more often than I like to think. I did it with Jessica Rabbit and the Toons Rights Fanatics (who decided to start turning Toons into reality (which led to Roger dying because he got turned into an actual rabbit) and then eventually started turning senators and whatnot into Toons to get their point across); I'm currently doing it with The Thin Line Trilogy in terms of (spoilers) Ryoko realizing that the world is just heading towards destruction and the only way to fix things is to Junko and Tragedy and rebuild, except that's still radical revolution and it's going to kill a lot of people; I have it in one of profic projects that was a little more ambitious than I could handle at the time.

But I think over and over again I go back to what does it mean to be human - whether that's in the form of personal identity or how other people react to it or what the stories we tell ourselves and each other say about what humanity is.

...that's a long answer. There's probably more.

Oh, also, and back scars. I frequently give people back scars. Just they have scars on their backs. It's just a thing.

I used to have a huuuge crush on this guy here on Tumblr, way back in the early MLP:FIM days
