10. passing out from pain
"how much... longer?"
"not long," he said, but too long he thought, as he felt the downward drag of her arm across his shoulders, her stumbling feet finding less purchase each step. not half an hour it would have been to get back to the town under most circumstances, but this wasn't most.
the bloodstained arrow fletching stood out from the folds of her cloak shoulder, each step sending a fresh pulse of crimson through the bundled cloth. her arm hung loose, stiffly, beneath it.
he paused, watching her face, the sharp pain-tightness around her eyes and mouth. she shook her head ever so slightly.
"let's... keep going. tell everyone."
left unspoken that even if the news of another troop of bandits in the mountains didn't need to reach the town immediately, she needed to. an arrow through the shoulder was a task for a proper healer, not for makeshift first-aid in the dusk of the mountain paths.
so they kept on, the two of them, making their cautious way down the mountainside, switchback paths crossing and re-crossing the slope, as the light in the sky faded and the glow of lamplight began to shine through shutters far below. she was measuring out her breaths through clenched teeth, shivering slightly against him, swaying now and again but always managing to pull herself back to consciousness just enough for the next step.
"not much longer," he said again, and hoped he spoke the truth.
-
"not much longer," he was still saying, as he helped her lie down on the healer's work table, stepping back to give them space to come closer. and then, "it's all right."
"we're - safe now?" her voice was weak, eyes wandering.
"yes."
then, as the arrow shaft was tugged free of her shoulder, she gave a ragged gasp and clutched his hand bitterly tight, but this time she let her eyes close, and the mercy of oblivion claim her at last for a while.

Okay, hopefully I format this correctly
may I request Rodimus/Hunting/“you said you’d never leave”.
Gn human reader?
WHUMPTOBER DAY 10
“You said you’d never leave”
Warning for slight possessiveness and dark themes
You run. You run like your life depends on it, because for all you knew, it did. Your bare feet pound against the hard ground, otherworldly nature nipping harshly at your ankles. Literally nipping. Venus flytrap like plants litter your trail, snapping at you just like in Mario. Lucky for you, they’re easy enough to avoid.
You continue to manoeuvre through the jungle because as far as you know it’s all you have. It wasn’t like Earth at all but it was organic. Hell did you miss actual wildlife, not enough to stop and take in the beauty though.
The ground quakes, heavy footsteps, rapid, careless. Your heart starts beating even faster than before. If there’s was a contest between your heart and your running power, you think that it’d be a close tie. You try to pull yourself forward more, not daring to look back.
But maybe you should’ve.
A fiery hand encloses around your body, bringing you face to face with someone who you once called a friend. Rodimus narrows his optics down at your small form and you can’t help but freeze. Everyone knows who would win in a fight between a human and a cybertronian.
“Why did you leave?” The mech utters, expression unreadable as he keeps his grip tight around you, “You said you’d never leave.”
Anyone could detect the hurt in his words. And you’d be a liar if you said that I didn’t make your heart sting, “That was before you became..” You trail off, the words seemingly stuck in your throat.
“A monster?” The prime replies with just the right words as if he’s rehearsed it a thousand times. You want to tell him that he’s wrong but you can’t. You also want to strangle him though.
“Yes,” you mumble, your lungs feeling like they’re on fire as the mech holds you even tighter than before. His optics stay narrow, blue slits of disappointment staring down at you. Maybe you should have stayed on the ship

Never Leave
Warnings: captivity, yandere
Whumpee sighed. They leaned their head back agains the rim of the tub, relishing in the heat of the water and the peacefulness of the moment. It had been a long time since they'd been able to relax like this.
Whumper had made it difficult for Whumpee to do anything alone. They always wanted to be with Whumpee, to do everything with Whumpee. Whumpee had thought they were a good match, that they would fall in love and live happily ever after.
They were wrong.
Whumper had been demanding, jealous, and unwilling to trust Whumpee at every turn. They followed Whumpee everywhere. Listened to their calls. Wouldn't let Whumpee's friends come over.
It had taken everything in Whumpee to escape. And now that they were free of Whumper, they realized they were such a fool thinking that Whumper loved them.
The only thing Whumper was with them was obsessed.
But now they were free of Whumper and they could start again. They sunk deeper in the tub, happy to finally relax.
"You said you'd never leave," Whumper's soft voice came from the bathroom door.
Whumpee wrenched their eyelids open as panic gripped their heart. "Whumper...I--"
Whumper stepped into the bathroom, locking the door behind them. "You said you'd never leave me. And yet you did. You lied to me!" Their voice was dangerously quiet. Whumper always got this quiet before they did something terrible.
"Whumper, please, I--"
Whumper beamed down at Whumpee. Their sudden change in demeanor had Whumpee swallowing. This was not good. "Don't worry, Whumpee. We have all the time in the world for you to make it up to me."

Whumptober 2023 Day 10 - Broken Phone
Day 10, we're almost there guys! And yet another movieverse story! This is the last one of the batch though, so savor it while you can. I'm also not super proud of this one, but you can only do so much when you've got thirty stories to write and they're all a minimum of 2k words.
@splinnters ten tags! I'm going to give you a medal honestly
Words: 2.1k
“Shit,” Jay muttered as he tapped his shattered phone screen, “shit, shit, shit-”
It didn’t matter, the thing was dead. Jay’s heart thundered in his chest as he shoved it back into his gi pocket, clutching the flashlight in his hand and pointing it in front of him. The beam was shaking rapidly as his hand trembled, but Jay couldn’t make himself hold it still. Sure, he had just gotten stranded in the forest after the rest of his friends had run away from the shark army with him, but it was fine! Totally fine!
Oh First Master he was stuck in the forest by himself and the others had no idea where he was-
He clutched his orange scarf to his chest, running the thick fabric through his fingers and letting the feeling ground him. He couldn’t start panicking, he needed to find help as soon as possible.
Jay picked a direction and started walking, his sneakers squeaking in the wet grass as he went. The wind was bitingly cold as it blew past him, his jacket flapping and his shirt riding up to expose his skin to the elements. He did his best to keep his jacket around his torso, but the zipper was broken from all of the fidgeting that he had done with it over the years. Wu had apparently not designed their gi to be very weather-resistant, as Jay could feel even the slightest breeze through the cloth.
The bruises throbbed painfully; it was far from the worst beating he’d ever taken, especially from the hands of Garmadon’s minions, but bruises were bruises. He wanted to ice them, but alas he had no ice with which to do so. Everything about this situation sucked worse than the time his bullies had dunked his history textbook in the toilet right before class.
His ankle twinged when he tried to walk on it, and checking under his pant leg only showed a ring of dark purple bruises. Something had happened to it, but Jay couldn’t even begin to guess if it was broken or sprained or anything in-between.
You most likely wouldn’t be able to walk on it if it were broken, Jay told himself, but it didn’t make him feel any better.
This was bad. Lloyd was most likely captured, he had no idea where to find the others, there were Shark Generals running all around this forest, and he could feel the fresh bruises blooming across his chest and down his back. With any luck, Jay would be able to run into one of the others and he wouldn’t be alone; safety in numbers and all that jazz. Every step irritated his ankle and the bruises running up and down his leg.
Just as he had to say that, his flashlight ran out of batteries, and Jay started smacking the side of it in frustration. Nothing he did was working, even after he cut his fingers fumbling with the panel and switching the batteries around. Where was that stupid lightning power when he needed it? Was Wu a liar?
Shit on a shingle, Wu better not be a liar or Jay was going to send a lot of very politely worded emails because he was not one for physical confrontation of authority figures.
“Could this get any worse?” he said out loud, carefully stepping over the tree roots as best as he could in the pitch-black of the night. Not even the moon was strong enough to light his way, and Jay shuddered as owl calls filled the air around him. He felt like there was something watching him, keeping track of his every move.
If they were big hungry predators in this forest, he was going to quiet full-stop, and no one was going to talk him out of it.
Honestly, he should’ve known better than to say anything.
Because then there was shouting.
Running, Jay didn’t look back as Shark Generals crashed through the undergrowth after him, and he felt the tip of a spear swing past the back of his head. His anxiety fueled his adrenaline, helping his Ninja reflexes as he jumped over tree root after tree root, avoiding various pits and dodging branches as he barreled through the forest.
His heart was going to start beating out of his chest. He needed to find the others before that happened or before he was captured.
The thought of being captured made his stomach churn, especially when it was at the hands of the Shark Generals that he had wronged so many times. Jay was definitely starting to have regrets and not for the first time. He only turned around him to throw the flashlight at the generals, hearing it collide with someone’s head.
Phone falling out of his pocket entirely, Jay didn’t have any time to mourn the loss as the generals pursuing him quickly smashed it to bits as they chased after him. He wanted to pull up his mask and hide, but he couldn’t waste the one distraction he had given himself.
Until he stopped looking where he was going.
Jay yelped as he went down over a large root, feeling his ankle twinge in protest at the movement. He crashed into the ground, and Jay laid there, dazed. He finally moved when he heard the generals’ footsteps in the undergrowth, scrambling to hide behind a large tree to his right. Pulling his mask down over his face, he squeezed his eyes shut, ignoring the pain in his ankle and the new bump forming on his forehead. He had scraped up his hands pretty badly; they stung as he clenched them into fists, feeling rivulets of blood start to drip down into his sleeves.
“Where did he go?” one general asked, and Jay stopped breathing. They couldn’t know that he was here. With any luck, he made himself small enough that the foliage would hide him.
The light from their torches danced behind his eyelids in strange shapes, and the enemies were so close that Jay could smell the smoke floating away from them. He was terrified and his heart pounding erratically, waiting for the moment that someone would push the brush aside and see him sitting there, taking him to wherever their hideout was where he would never see his friends or his city or his parents ever again-
“Let’s go! He must’ve gone that way!” Someone yelled, and the generals were gone as quickly as they had come, but Jay had already spiraled too far in his own head to notice.
How long had it been since he had a panic attack by himself?
Too long, he thought, because he was definitely out of practice.
Shoving his hand against the bark, he desperately looked for something to ground himself with, failing and pushing off to tumble into the clearing. His hands went to tug his mask off and let him breathe, then to yank at his curls since the wet grass just made him panic more. Scalp aching in protest, Jay didn’t stop, instead tugging even harder. He was pretty sure that he had started crying, the tears hot and steady on his cheeks, but he didn’t let himself sob. What if he alerted the guards and they found him again?
Jay didn’t know how long he had let himself break down alone in the middle of a random clearing in an enemy-infested forest during the middle of the night, but it was long enough for his tears to start running dry and to finally catch his breath.
“Need to keep moving,” he told himself, and he stood up on shaky legs as if he were a newborn deer. His flashlight was nowhere to be found and his phone was destroyed, not that they would’ve been of any use to him. Sounds echoed around him, grating on his ears and keeping him on his toes. Every way he would’ve had to navigate the dark was gone; only the moon remained, but its light was so dim that it may as well have not been there at all.
First Master, he was so hooped.
His hands couldn’t stop shaking, and now that the rest of his body was trembling it wouldn’t stop. The cold nipped at his skin, blowing his hair every which way as Jay did his best to shield himself despite his lack of insulating clothing. Was he actually going to freeze out here?! Normally he would’ve had Cole or Zane to hide behind and take the large gusts of wind, or Kai with his unreasonable body heat to hug him close and Nya or Lloyd to reassure him. But now he was alone; the weakest link on the whole team, left to die by himself in the middle of the woods. The last stringer who always had to be rescued.
Die.
No.
No, this was not how Jay was going to go out. He still had to ask Nya out on a date, dammit!
“C’mon, Walker,” he ground out, pushing every bit of his self-loathing and hatred into his voice (luckily there was plenty of it), “you are going to stop crying like a stupid baby and start walking. Lloyd needs you, and so does Nya, and so does everyone else. What would Ma and Pa say if they saw you crying like this?”
Pa probably would’ve tucked his little boy into his lap while he finished the daily crossword, Ma covering him in a blanket with some warm soup and a kiss on his forehead, but Jay couldn’t afford to think about that right now. Not only because he might start crying again if he thought about his parents, but If he stopped to think about how hungry he was or how water sounded really nice or about how much he wanted a hug then he was never going to move from this spot again.
And that was not the game plan if he wanted to look cool enough for Nya to say yes to a date.
Jay regretted trying to walk after the first step, pain bursting from his ankle and causing him to gasp and kneel back down. He grimaced at the sight of his ankle, even more bruised than before with even some blood, and he quickly undid his belt to wrap it around the ankle. His scraped hands wanted nothing to do with the process, but Jay forced them to cooperate. It would help to stabilize for as long as Jay needed it to work, but he should still do his best to stay off of it for as long as possible.
You know, after he found the others.
Biting his tongue proved to be an effective way to distract himself from the other pain, and with every step Jay would chomp down on the muscle until he would pick his foot back up, repeating the process even after a metallic and coppery taste filled his mouth. That water sounded really good right about now.
“Maybe you aren’t as useless as you thought you were,” Jay muttered, even though he knew what the others would say if they were here; they would tell him he wasn’t useless and to stop being so hard on himself. Cole would be carrying him, telling him that he shouldn’t walk on his leg. Zane would be blabbering on and on about what Jay should be doing for a broken ankle, and for as much as Jay loved Zane’s ramblings that is not what he needed to hear. Kai would probably be flipping his shit along with Lloyd, both of them shutting down with guilt and leaving Cole to take the lead, but Nya…
Jay didn’t know what Nya would do, actually. That was a fairly common occurrence.
Every time that he thought he had her figured out, finally able to predict at least one of her movements, she would always surprise him. It was impressive, honestly; Jay prided himself on his ability to analyze data and formulate theories, and Nya gave him plenty to work with; but he didn’t know if his theories were always wrong because of his own incompetence or if Nya was just that good.
It was almost as painful as the bump on his forehead that wouldn’t stop throbbing and giving him a headache.
But with any luck, Jay would find his way out of here in no time, maybe meet Nya along the way and they would finally get to spend some alone time together-
“Hey! There he is!”
And off he ran again, plunging into the darkness and hoping that he could make it out this time.

Whumptober day 10- alternative prompt, panic
Love at twilight!!!! :D it’s a strong focus on Rusl and the Ordon kids and I love it so much. Hope you guys love it too! Uh, this one is very mild, not a lot of whump, but there is a brief moment of panic. It’s a lot more lighthearted than the others. Anyways hope you like it as much as I do 🙃
~~~~~~~~~~
“Alright ya kidlets, are y’all ready for a daring adventure in the forest?”
Rusl looked out at the young Ordon kids who stared at him blankly. Rusl cleared his throat and gestured to Faron woods behind him.
“C’mon, I know y’all are excited.”
Beth yawned while Colin rubbed his eyes. It was pretty early in the morning, and these kids were barely teenagers, the oldest being fifteen, so being awake was clearly not something they wanted. Rusl swore that he didn’t sleep as much as they did when he was a teenager, but regardless they were all very tired and very much not excited for an adventure through the woods. His little three year old stepped up and put her hands on her hips.
“Toughen up ya sleepyheads!” She yelled out in her three-year-old voice, and Rusl chuckled.
“Yeah, you heard her! Wake up, you’re gonna need all your energy for today!”
Talo raised his hand. “Rusl, why are we up so early, and why are we going into the woods?”
Rusl clapped his hands excitedly and walked over to the kids. He’s been training them sword fighting. Mayor Bo believed that if another invasion were to happen, having just Rusl and Link there to defend Ordon would not be able to work, so he wanted the younger kids to learn how to fight in order to protect their home more. Renado wanted his daughter to be taught as well, mostly so she would protect herself in case anything happened. Rusl happily obliged, wanting to start training Colin anyways. The kids were all pretty excited to learn sword fighting, even Beth who didn’t enjoy that type of stuff. Rusl figured since all the kids were so close now that they loved doing anything together, so the training has been easy going for Rusl. But after a few months of training, Rusl wanted them to get more hands-on experience. He faced Faron woods and put his hands on his hips with Rela copying him dramatically.
“Talo, I’m going to see how far along you’ve come on your training, by venturing through Faron woods, and learning how to survive without the comforts of your home!”
There were various mixed reactions from the kids. Talo and Luda seemed pretty excited, Colin was indifferent, but Beth was pretty upset. He figured these would be reactions, so he faced them again and knelt down.
“It’ll only be for one night, we’re gonna practice our fighting skills, appreciate Farore’s gift to us, and learn how to survive in the wild.”
Beth crossed her arms and looked down. “Are there gonna be monsters?”
Talo paled a bit and Luda looked at Beth worriedly. Rusl shrugged.
“Who knows. We’ve cleared it out so there shouldn’t be, but if there are monsters,” Rusl grinned in a teasing manner, “then you’ll have to put your sword fighting skills to the test! Now let’s go!”
Rusl headed into the forest with the kids following him closely behind, making sure to hold onto Rela’s hand as they walked on the trail. When they reached a small river, he picked up his daughter and hopped on rocks effortlessly, landing on the other side. The kids watched him in disbelief and he waved them over.
“They’re nice and sturdy! Don’t worry!”
Talo nodded and hopped onto the rocks. Rusl set down Rela when he reached the other side and smiled. Rusl gave him a thumbs up and the others quickly followed. Rela sat there with her hands on her hips giving them all words of “encouragement”.
“C’mon you slow pokes! Hurry it up!” She would yell at Beth who was being very careful not to fall in the water. “There’s no wind to knock ya over, you can do better than that!” She yelled at Luda who nearly lost her balance on a rock. Colin hopped from one rock to the next, but slipped and fell face first into the water. Rela waddled over to her brother and crossed her arms. “You’re a failure!”
Rusl walked over to her and nudged her over to Talo, who was trying not to laugh at the little girl berating everyone.
“Sweet spirits above, Rela,” he muttered, and offered his hand to Colin. “You’re doing great Colin.”
Colin smiled and took it. “Thanks pa.”
When Beth finally made it to the other side, they continued onward, getting closer to the clearing Rusl wanted them to settle down in. He was relieved that there were no monsters. Although he joked about it earlier, the kids were not prepared to fight bokoblins, and with Rela here as well, Rusl didn’t want to put her in any danger. So the lack of monsters was a relief to Rusl. The others seemed relieved that there was no fighting as well. This adventure was just a lovely walk through the woods, minus Beth’s complaining about her feet. When Rusl saw the clearing, he smiled and turned to the kids.
“We’re almost there, don’t worry!”
The kids all cheered tiredly in response, and Rusl laughed. He spotted Link and Ashei and waved at them, and Link waved back, with his little two-year-old running towards Rusl.
“What’s Ashei and Link doing here? Colin asked, watching Kori slam into Rusl’s legs.
“They’re here to teach you what they know about sword fighting! It’s best that you learn all the different techniques,” Rusl answered, picking up Kori and kissing his cheeks. “Besides, they had actual teachers, they know what they’re doing.”
The kids all ran to the clearing and greeted Link, while shyly greeting Ashei, whom they’ve never met before. Ashei looked more uncomfortable than them, and wandered off to grab the tent supplies.
“I don’t think she likes kids,” Link told Rusl with a chuckle. Rusl shrugged.
“Well she’s a great fighter, and I think she’ll help Luda and Beth feel more confident in their abilities, don’t you think?”
Link shrugged. “I guess. But if she makes one of them cry, don’t be upset when I say ‘I told you so’.”
Rusl smirked and smacked his son’s shoulder. He waved at Malo who was reluctantly manning the tent supplies, handing it to Ashei as if it were his shop. Rusl spun around and faced the kids, gesturing to Link and Ashei.
“Alright, these two are some of the best fighters I know, and they’re gonna show you what they know. Then we’ll set up the tents and make dinner. Got it?”
The kids nodded unenthusiastically and they all got to work. Link showed them what he knew, demonstrating the helm splitter, the ending blow, and the back slice. Rusl still had no idea who taught him those moves, it certainly wasn’t himself who did it. But he never thought to ask, and Link never talked about it, so it was never brought up. The kids all tried out the different moves, some of them failing at the helm splitter, which involved a front flip over an enemy after they'd been stunned.
“I think y’all should wait until you’re better at flips,” Rusl called out, and Link scratched the back of his head embarrassed.
Once Link taught them everything he knew, Ashei took over, teaching them her own moves. She was more quiet and serious with the kids compared to Link, but she showed her different skills with grace and perfection. She’s clearly practiced these moves a thousand times over, and it was almost mesmerizing to see her move. Link and Ashei were great fighters, but they were so different. Ashei’s skills were more so from learning and practicing, while Link’s was from actual experience from fighting. Rusl’s sword fighting was all self taught, so he was never given different sword techniques like the other two were.
Ashei watched the kids as they practiced her moves, fixing their posture and giving them some pointers to help them improve. Rusl watched happily as Beth kept asking her if she was doing alright, trying to be good in front of the cool lady. But he was pulled away when Link walked up to him with a concerned look on his face.
“A bunch of bokoblins showed up in front of the forest temple,” he pointed to the entrance, and up the log bridge, Rusl was able to see a small group of them. It looked to be three bokoblins, which was good. They would be easy to take care of. Link looked back at Rusl and crossed his arms. “Are you gonna have the kiddos fight them?”
Rusl shook his head. “No, I don’t want to risk any of them getting hurt.”
“Really? They’re just bokoblins. I mean, I was fifteen when I killed my first bokoblin.”
“Link, Luda is the only one who’s fifteen here. And you were easier to protect if something went wrong.” Rusl gestured to the kids who were finishing things up with Ashei. “There’s four of them, that’s gonna be harder to keep track of.”
Link looked down for a moment, pursing his lips. “It’s just three measly little bokoblins, pa.”
“I know, but I’d rather not deal with this right now. Bokoblins are stupid but they’re still dangerous.”
“What’s going on?”
Link and Rusl looked over to Ashei walking towards them.
“There’s a bunch of bokoblins up there,” Link said nonchalantly, a little too loud so everyone could hear.
The kids all gasped, looking either scared or excited.
“Are we going to fight them?” Talo asked in a small voice.
“We should! We’ve learned a lot!” Beth yelled out before Rusl could say anything.
“Yeah! We might as well put our skills to the test!” Luda agreed.
“I guess we could try,” Colin muttered, “I mean, y’all will be there to help us right?”
Link smiled at Rusl and walked closer to the kids.
“Of course we will! With all of us fighting together, those bokoblins will have nothing on us!”
The kids all cheered excitedly, raising their swords in the air as Link hyped them up. All except Talo, who was clutching his wooden sword silently. Rusl frowned at him, this didn’t seem normal for the brave and brash Talo…
“Talo,” Rusl stepped up, putting a hand on Link’s shoulder, “do you want to fight the bokoblins?”
Talo stared at him with wide eyes, and Rusl saw that he made a mistake. Everyone turned to look at the boy, and Talo shrunk back, tears starting to form in his eyes. Without warning, he darted away, running out of the clearing.
“Wait— TALO!” Rusl called out to him, and he sprinted after him. “Link, Ashei, take care of the bokoblins! Luda you’re in charge!” He yelled behind him before running out of the clearing. He looked around him frantically, just barely making out Talo’s red headband. He sprinted towards him, afraid that a monster was going to pop out and attack him. That was the last thing he needed. Finally, Rusl slowed down when Talo stopped, sitting by the river that they crossed earlier, crying. Rusl quietly walked up to him and sat down beside him.
“Talo,” he said quietly, and Talo peeked out from under his arm. “We’re not gonna fight the bokoblins, Link and Ashei are taking care of it.”
Talo sniffed and buried his head in his arms again. Rusl sighed and pulled him into a side hug, which he leaned into.
“What’s got you worked up like this Talo?”
Talo hugged himself closer.
“I don’t want to fight bokoblins…” he mumbled.
“Hey, we’re not gonna fight bokoblins, not anytime soon. I wanna start out with keese first, it’ll be easier—“
“I don’t want to fight monsters.”
Rusl stopped and stared at Talo. “Oh, I see…” Rusl stared at the rushing water, trying to think of what to say. “Why don’t you want to fight monsters?” He asked.
“‘Cause— ‘cause they’re scary! Bokoblins tried to eat me and a monkey! They kidnapped me and Malo and they kept us from going home. They—they kidnapped Colin and tried to hurt him, they just—they’re just scary!” Talo yelled out, flailing his arms around in a frustrated manner. Rusl just watched him silently, the events of what happened replaying through his mind.
He remembered when Colin frantically ran up to him, saying that Talo ran into the woods and was in danger, when he found Link bringing Talo back home safe and sound, when the bulblins broke through Ordon and grabbed all the children, when King Bulblin nearly killed Rusl when he tried to protect them, the screams of the children when they were kidnapped, when Colin told Rusl about King Bulblin tying him to a pole to use against Link, all the things that the poor kids experienced during the twilight invasion. It was no wonder why Talo was so scared. He was surprised the others weren’t.
“So, you’re scared of monsters,” Rusl stated, and Talo nodded. Rusl sighed and rubbed his arm. “Do you want to keep learning how to fight with a sword?”
Talo raised his head and looked at Rusl with puffy eyes. “I—I do! But— I—“
“Because you’re learning how to use a sword in order to fight monsters.”
Talon was silent for a moment, and he buried his face in his knees again.
“I’m sorry,” he sniffled, and Rusl gave him a squeeze.
“You have nothing to apologize for. I think that, if you face monsters more, then you’ll find them to be less scary. But we’re not going to face them now, ok?”
Talo nodded, and Rusl stood up. “C’mon, Link and Ashei are dealing with the bokoblins right now. We’re just gonna focus on building shelter and making food with what we got.”
He offered his hand to Talo who stared at him silently, but he finally grabbed his hand and Rusl pulled him up, wrapping an arm around him.
“There’s nothing to be ashamed of Talo, monsters are scary. So don’t be embarrassed for being scared, ok?”
Talo silently nodded and leaned against him slightly as they walked. When they reached the clearing, Rusl noticed Link and Ashei cleaning their swords with the kids all watching. Link spotted Rusl and waved at him, and Rusl waved back. The kids all turned around, causing Talo to shrink into Rusl’s side a little, but Luda ran up to them and hugged Talo, with the others quickly joining in. Rusl smiled as he watched them all comfort Talo, even Rela and Malo joined in the group hug. Link walked up to Rusl as the kids talked amongst themselves, he was holding a sleepy looking Kori and he gestured to Talo with his head.
“Is he ok?”
Rusl sighed. “For now. He’s scared of monsters so we won’t be fighting them anytime soon.”
Link hummed and Ashei stared at the group.
“Well, the girls are ready to fight monsters,” she started, “you can’t hold them back for the boys to catch up, yeah?”
“You’re right about that Ashei. Maybe you could take the girls on a monster hunting trip sometime?” Rusl suggested. Ashei’s eyes went big and she stepped back.
“M-me? No— no way. I’m not good with kids…”
“Beth and Luda aren’t kids, Ash. They’re teenagers. Besides, I think they like you!”
Ashei grumbled and turned away. “They barely even know me!”
“Well, I think seeing a swordswoman gives them confidence in themselves, so I’m sure they’d love fighting monsters with you. But it’s a suggestion of course.”
Ashei glared at him for a moment, then waved them away.
“Let’s just focus on building up camp, yeah?”
Rusl nodded and walked over to the huddled up kids. Talo wasn’t crying anymore thankfully, and he seemed to be laughing at what the others were saying. It warmed his heart knowing that Talo had good friends to help him. And he couldn’t help but feel pride for his own son who was being compassionate towards him. He definitely got that from his dear mother.
“Ok, you four,” he sadly interrupted the sweet moment between the kids, “let’s set up camp ok?”
The kids wandered over to the tent supplies and with the direction of Rusl, they were able to make pretty decent tents. Rusl kept a close eye on Talo, but he seemed to be doing much better. Though there were some bumps in the road, Rusl would say that this night in Faron woods was a success.
whumptober 2023 masterlist
summary: in small towns where everyone knows everyone and everything, it's hard to escape the actions of your relatives
Tumblr media
You’d always heard about the families of murderers being shunned and outcasted for the actions of one person, but you never thought that it would ever happen to you.
One reason being that you never thought someone in your family would kill someone.
Another being the fact that when Perry murdered Trevor, Rhett went to the hospital in the hopes of not being too late. But Trevor was DOA and both of your brothers were arrested, Rhett getting released because he was in fact innocent except for a few punches, but he wasn’t present during the fatal blow.
It was one person… and Perry was convicted, your family never condoned his actions.
But that changed nothing apparently…
Kids at school avoided you, even your friends shied away from you and started slowly leaving. You got looks in the hall, groups whispered, everyone tried to avoid making you angry.
It hurt. It hurt a lot to see people you were so close to turn on you like that. For something you had no part in.
But you learned to live with the stares and the whispers, just choosing to ignore them as best you can.
And you were managing just fine until the stares turned into cornering and the whispers turned to shouts and punches.
You don’t know what you did wrong and you didn’t know if you could go to anyone because even the staff was careful around you.
So, you just had to deal with it.
Tumblr media
Rhett looked up as he heard the door open. He checked the time, 6:30, you were supposed to be home hours ago.
You walked past the kitchen, arm cradling your ribs as you turned to go upstairs to your room.
“Um, ‘scuse me, what are you doin’?” Rhett asked, walking toward you. You stopped on the bottom of the steps, turning to look at him, “Goin’ to my room, what does it look like?” You were tired, you knew you were late and that you had chores to do but you could some of them this weekend.
Rhett narrowed his eyes. You had been coming in later than normal recently, but today was the latest. He was worried. You started looking tired and more tired everyday, staying in your room more often than not and he ended up doing your chores for the day.
He crossed his arms and leaned on the railing, “What is up with you lately?” You looked down at the steps before closing your eyes and huffing before looking up at him, “Nothing, school’s been kickin’ my ass, so just leave me alone okay?”
You huffed and walked up the stairs, mumbling to yourself, “Not like you fuckin’ care anyway…” “The fuck did you say?” “Nothing! Nothing, just I have homework. I’ll be in my room.”
You didn’t give Rhett time to respond before you went up the stairs.
On your way to your room you pass Amy’s. You stop dead in your tracks when you catch what sounds like crying coming from her room.
Frowning, you dipped into your room to drop your bag off before going to Amy’s room.
You knocked lightly on her door, “Ames? Amy, honey, what’s wrong?”
When she doesn’t respond you open the door and find her on her bed curled up in the corner. “Amy, sweetheart…” You sat down on her bed. “What's wrong?” She sniffled and shook her head, “Nothin’...” “Amy… c’mon it’s me, your Aunt Y/N, you can tell me anything, promise.”
She sniffles and lifts her head to rest her chin on her knees. “The other kids are being mean at school…” Your heart shattered, “Oh honey, I’m so sorry…” “They say all these mean things about Daddy and that I’m gonna be just like him…” Tears lined her blue eyes again.
You felt tears sting your own eyes, realizing that Amy was going through what you were, kids of any age where mean but 9 year olds were mean to your face. “My friends don’t want to come over anymore, they barely play with me…”
“I’m so sorry baby, that’s not very nice of them. You know what they say about you isn’t true right? You are Amy Abbott, you are who you are because it is who you choose to be. A sweet, loving, caring, and hilarious little girl, don’t forget smart. You aren’t who they say you are.”
You gently wiped her tears with your thumb, “Does that make sense?”
She nodded before tackling you in a hug and burying her head in your shoulder. The force flared up the pain in your ribs, but you bit back the cry.
You held her like that as she cried still, falling asleep on your shoulder. You hated that she had to go through this because of her father’s actions. She didn’t deserve it…
Not that you deserved it either, but you could handle it.
Tumblr media
You sighed as you walked in the door, you managed to make it home on time and physically unscathed today.
“Look at that, you’re home on time,” Royal said from the kitchen. “Whatever boy you meet after school have something to do?” You exhaled slowly and looked at your dad, “I don’t meet a boy after school Dad. I’m usually in the library or I stop at the store on the way home.” “Mhmm, okay.”
You huffed and rolled your eyes, before going upstairs.
“Hey! Rhett and I are gonna need your help when he gets back with the hay.” You nodded, “Yes sir, just let me know when that is, I'm gonna get started on homework.” “Alright.”
You went upstairs and tossed your bag in your desk chair and curled up on your bed.
You were emotionally exhausted from the day of constant looks and whispers, you got the occasional shove, flaring up your rib pain from earlier in the week. You still got the occasional, “be careful around Abbott, she might break your windpipe” thrown around when you walked by.
All you wanted to do was curl up, go to sleep and then wake up just for everything to be normal again.
Tumblr media
Rhett walked in the door, dusting his jacket off as he looked for your dad. “Hey, truck’s in the hay barn.” Royal nodded at his son and stood up, “Go get your sister, she’s doin’ homework in her room. We need her for this, we’ll get it done faster if it’s three of us.”
The younger Abbott blinked, “Um, shouldn’t she be focusin’ on school work? We can do it just fine on our own.” “And it’ll take until sundown, since Perry ain’t here we need her. Go get her and meet me outside,” Royal’s tone left no room for argument as he left for the hay barn.
Rhett sighed and looked at his mother, “Don’t you agree with me, Ma?” She shrugged as got ingredients for dinner out, “I think you both are makin’ good points. Y/N does need to make sure she’s not fallin’ behind but doin a whole trailer by yourselves is gonna take the rest of the afternoon. I’m sure Y/N’ll be jus’ fine.”
He exhaled through his nose before turning and going up the stairs.
Walking down the hall, he got to your room and knocked before waiting on a response. “Y/N, it’s Rhett, ya decent?” When he didn’t hear anything, he figured you were listening to music or something.
He opened the door slowly to give you plenty of time to react, but by the time the door was half-way open and he didn’t get a response, he just opened it the rest of the way.
“Hey, Y/N, Dad and I-” he stopped short when he saw you laying on the bed.
He sighed a little and went over to you, “Hey, Dad and I need your help with the hay.” He rubbed your arm hoping to wake you that way, but when you didn’t move he shoved at your back, “C’mon, the sooner we st-”
“Ow, fuck!”
You cried out, the pain waking you up, “What the hell man?” Rhett backed up, hands in the air in defense, “I didn’t do anythin’!” You sat up with a wince, “Yeah, you fuckin’ punched me in the back!” “No, I didn’t, I was tryin’ to wake you up. Dad told me you were doin’ homework.”
His blue eyes scanned over you, taking in the tears lining your eyes and your breathing was calculated. “Are you okay?”
You nodded before standing up, “C’mon let’s go.”
Rhett stood with you and watched you hold your torso as you walked out of your room.
Something was up with you and he needed to figure out why you were lying to him.
Tumblr media
Rhett looked at you as you sat across from him at the table. He noticed you grimacing and gritting your teeth as you slung bales of hay out of the trailer. And now you sat here at the table, poking at your food and shifting in your seat to get comfy.
He looked at his parents and neither seemed to look at you or notice that you were different.
“May I be excused?”
Your voice, all though quiet, cut through the silent kitchen.
You had only plated what you thought you could handle, that way you didn’t waste what was on your plate. You weren’t hungry, the pain and exhaustion had zapped your appetite.
Your parents glanced at you and then at your plate, “Put your plate and cup in the sink. Did you finish your homework earlier?” You shook your head, “No, but I only have a little bit left. I can finish it after my shower.” “Alright, go on.” You stood up with a nod and did as you were told.
You gave Cecilia a quick hug and thanked her for dinner before making your way upstairs to shower.
Rhett watched you the whole way before sighing and turning back to his family. “Have y’all noticed anythin’ off about her?” Your parents shared a look and shrugged a little.
“I mean, other than her comin’ home late, I ain’t noticed much,” Royal said with a shrug. He didn’t pay much attention to begin with so that wasn’t all that surprising. Rhett looked at your mom, “What about you?” She shrugged as well, “I mean yeah, what your father said. She’s comin’ home later and maybe she seems a little tired but nothin’ concernin’.”
Rhett nodded, rolling his lip with his teeth, “Alright, jus’ wonderin’...”
Tumblr media
The next day goes by fairly quickly, Saturdays are usually light during rodeo season. So by 5 you’re done and getting ready to go to the arena.
You hummed as you plucked a t-shirt out a drawer and turned to the mirror.
As you raised your arms, you caught sight of the bruises on your ribcage. They were healing, green and yellow on the outside, red, blue, and purple on the inside. You sighed and just pulled your shirt down the rest of the way.
Throwing on a hoodie, you grabbed your keys and left to the arena.
Tumblr media
After his ride. Rhett went over to the fence to talk to your parents and Amy before heading home.
“Hey, where’s Y/N?” He asked, immediately noticing your absence in the small group. Your parents glanced around before shrugging, “She drove herself here. Probably went home after your ride.” Rhett shifted his a little bit before nodding.
He thought that was weird, normally you’d stay and give him a big hug with a huge smile on your face. But he couldn’t be too suspicious, maybe you had some last minute stuff you needed to get done for school.
“Yeah, she left after your ride Uncle Rhett. But I think she was sad when she left,” Amy said, having watched you leave while wiping tears from your face.
“Why do you think that?”
Amy shrugged, “She was upset, I could hear her snifflin’ but after your ride she left pretty fast. I think it had something to do the people sittin’ behind us, they were sayin’ stuff but I couldn’t hear because they were whispering.” Rhett just nodded, clenching his jaw a little bit as his chest puffed with an inhale.
Well, that explains why you had been so different lately.
Tumblr media
Rhett had tried to talk to you that night but you were asleep and you avoided him like the plague on Sunday.
On Monday he had done his work with you on his mind and hoped that you were okay. That it wasn’t as bad as he was thinking and that you were capable of handling yourself.
But when sundown came and you weren’t home, Rhett was leaving to go find you.
Tumblr media
You groaned as you got out of your truck. Your body was sore and your face was throbbing.
“Fuck, tomorrow’s gonna be awful,” you grumbled as you walked into the dark house.
Your phone had died so you had no idea if your family had been looking for you or trying to contact you. You were late, so late.
You tried to get in your truck before you got caught, but you weren’t fast enough. This ass kicking was the worst. You were punched and kicked, pushed around. You got thrown into the bed of your own truck when they were done as words were thrown at you. Your ears had been ringing at that point so you couldn’t hear them.
When you regained consciousness, you got in your driver’s seat and went to the hospital, you knew better than to go all the way home and have no one even care.
Sighing, you opened the fridge and took out a beer. Everyone was asleep, it didn’t matter.
You cracked it open on the side of the table and sat down with a wince before sipping it.
You got halfway through it before Rhett stormed in.
“Where the hell have you been?” He asked immediately as he walked into the kitchen. “You were supposed to be home hours ago! I went out looking for you, where the fuck where you?”
You kept your head down, Rhett, please don’t yell…” Your head was still pounding and your face hurt, his volume just made it worse. “I was drivin’ around. My phone died.”
He stood next to you but you didn’t look at him. He took the bottle from your hands and poured it out before tossing the bottle, “Why didn’t you come home?” You shrugged, eyes fixated on your lap. “Answer me.”
“Because I didn’t want to…” You mumbled.
“What was that?”
“I didn’t want to.”
“Why not?”
You huffed and finally looked up, “This. This is why, Rhett.” You watched his eyes widen as he took in the busted lip and bruises on your face. “What the fuck happened? Do I need to take you to the hospital?”
You shook your head, “No, but some ice would be nice.” He nodded and went to the freezer, grabbing a towel and putting ice in it.
He handed it to you and sat down, “Now what happened?” “Asshole kids at school…” you said, defeated. There was no point in hiding it anymore. “Ever since Perry’s arrest and trial it’s just been shit… friends leaving me, people whispering, and then it turned physical…”
“Why didn’t you say anything?” Rhett asked quietly, honestly hurt that you didn’t come to him about this. “We were all dealing with it… Ma and Dad are just kinda going through the motions right now, this can’t be easy for them either. Amy has no parents and kids were picking on her at school too. My problem just seemed smaller than that…”
Rhett shook his head, “It’s not…” You just shrugged and rested your head on your arms on the table.
“Maybe I shouldn’t’ve gone to the hospital… you wouldn’t-” You sat back up, shaking your head, “No Rhett… you did the right thing. Please don’t blame yourself for this, it’s not your fault.” “It kinda is…” You reached over to grab his hand. “It’s not. I don’t blame you, don’t blame yourself.”
He cleared his throat and nodded. “Okay..” “Okay?” “Yeah, I got it,” he said with a small laugh, making you smile a little. “I love you kid…” “I love you too, Rhett.”
You both shared a gentle hug, Rhett apologizing when you wince a little.
“You need to go to Joy about this Y/N…” You swallowed nervously but nodded, “Will you go with me?” “Of course I will.” You hugged him again before pulling back.
“I’m not supposed to look at screens for a few days, but can we go listen to a movie in the living room while I ice my face?”
He nodded and helped you stand, “Yeah, let’s go.” You smile and make a fresh pack in a zip-loc before going to the living room and snuggling on the couch with your brother.
It wasn’t going to be fixed in a day, but you felt better knowing that you had a confidant in Rhett and that he would be there for you whenever you called him.
Whumptober day 10: I see Your Fire Spark
Whumptober day 10 prompt: Blow to the head| Slurred Words | Passing Out from Pain | "I can't think straight." -
Gricko knew the punch was coming far before it happened.
He had been warned in the past over… the possible problems that gideon would have with him, the whole train thing that he had heard vague stories of the torment and enslavement that had occurred throughout the over ten years the man had been trapped there. He didn't know much, but he did know, Gideon hated Hobgoblins.
Of course by sole relation of looks and name, he was terrified of Goblins all the same.
It wasn't that he had particularly been… avoiding Gricko, no in fact he had kept such a close eye on him that Gricko had started internally calling Gideon his ‘ seeing eye warden’ a nickname that wouldn't go over well with the group but none the less was his nickname at the time.
The way he stared at Gricko, as if expecting him to suddenly change and go drag him to the Train once again was off putting, it would have hurt if it wasn't for the idea that he had been out of a very long term enslavement, for only near one or two years at this point.
So the group had vowed to keep the two away from being alone with one another, instead of having Gideon and Gricko go search, it would be Gideon and Kremy, or Gideon and Frostie on occasion. But never Gideon and Gricko. Not that he minded since Gideon was usually the first to go in, meaning he was far from the front lines if there did happen to be a fight, but it still felt off that he was unable to bond with his other party member.
Well, they didn't leave them alone until today that was.
- or Gideon and Gricko are trapped alone and Gideon panics
Whumptober Day 10: Scaring
(Continuation of day 6: Mind control and Forced to hurt someone else, here)
Also on AO3 Here.
---
From the moment he woke up, Warriors felt that something was wrong. Terribly so. Not including the headache.
The first indication of that was the fact that he was laying on his bedroll in his chainmail.
The second was the fact that all eyes were on him when he sat up.
Even Sky, who was notorious for sleeping in and being nearly impossible to wake, was sitting next to the fire, intently watching.
“Good morning.”
Warriors turned to the familiar voice next to him. Time sat beside the bedroll with his sword, oiling the blade.
“...Morning.” His own voice sounded dry and almost unused in return. Which was also strange, as he generally didn’t have a ‘morning voice’ unless he had overused it the day before. What had he done… yesterday? His mind only drew a blank.
Time didn’t seem to take notice. “How are you feeling?”
The Captain frowned, why did he ask that? Was there a reason why he was feeling so off? He looked back up at the others, most of whom had gone back to whatever activity they had been engaged in. Twilight caught his eye with an unfamiliar expression, before turning away. “Uh, feeling a little off. I guess. My head kinda hurts.”
“To be expected,” He set his sword back in its sheath, “You were out of it for a time. Do you remember anything from that?”
With a shake of his head, Warriors drew his knees up to his chest. “Was I sick? What happened?”
“Something like that, yes.” Time stood. “I’m just glad you’re improving. The others are pretty high strung at the moment, but they’ll be happy to see you too. Don’t think too hard about it.”
He watched as Time walked away.
‘Cryptic Old Man.’
---
Now, weeks later, Warriors had been able to fall back into a familiar rhythm. The others, however, did not.
They were distant, careful, always keeping an eye on him like he was bound to drop dead any minute now. They were anxious, alert at the sound of a twig snapping. There was no denying that. The only question was why?
His questions were left unanswered when he brought it up, and he tried to not push too hard, but if it was him they were worried about- Shouldn’t he get to know why? Was he so ill before that his existence had been so thin? Had his life been hanging on a thread? Were the others literally waiting in fear of something overtaking him again? Things just weren’t adding up.
So, during Time’s night watch on the first shift, he asked.
Time stared into the fire, a bitter laugh sounding before he finally answered. “I was wondering how long it was going to take you.”
Warriors frowned, but gestured for the older to continue.
“It had been a simple battle, ‘too easy,’ as you had put it. You were double checking the battle field when something just… overtook you. Not physically, but mentally.” He glanced at the Captain. “It wasn’t you, but something took control and attacked. Us.”
What? “I…attacked you guys? Was anyone hurt?”
“Thankfully, no, not seriously, at least. But hey,” Time grabbed Warriors by his shoulders and made him look him in the eyes. Plural. The scared one was looking into him too. “This was not your fault.”
Warriors pushed his hands off and stood. “Yeah right. And cuccos aren’t demon birds.”
Time followed suit. “I’m serious, Captain. Would you blame me if I was in your shoes? What about if it was Sky, or the Sailor. They might say the same thing, but the facts ring true. It was not you who did the attacking.”
“Well you’re not in my shoes. What if I hurt one of them? What if, since they thought the battle was over, they weren’t ready to defend themselves?”
“We weren’t.”
He paused, “What?”
With a sigh, Time grabbed the hem of his tunic and lifted it up, leaving the other with a clear view of his torso. Along with the new, white scar that ran across it, from sternum to hip. After a moment, he let the tunic fall back into place. “And yet, who was the first to speak to you after you woke?”
The question hung in the air, a few heroes stirring from the conversation, but none fully woken from it.
“I would say I forgive you,” Time continued, “But there’s nothing to forgive. Do you understand?”
Warriors thoughts were racing- ‘The liar,’ ‘I hurt him,’ ‘How could he possibly forgive-‘ ‘this is why everyone is one edge.’
“Do you believe me?”
The silence quickly fell back into place.
10. stranded
"we need to have a talk, all right? about this whole holding the bridge thing."
"I hate to pull rank," she said, from the better-lit side of the office, where she sat cross-legged on her cot, "but I'm the captain here, and I'm trying to follow the orders we were given."
they chewed their lip for a moment, their eyes straying to the shuttered window, the roar of the river distant in the night stillness. "three, four days till the main army reaches the river. if it's not our post, it's somewhere else... but what are we supposed to do then if we still don't have reinforcements?"
"we're going to."
"you keep saying they'll come for us. but - what if they don't? it's been weeks since we sent the messengers. maybe - maybe we're meant to fail, you know. maybe they're just going to help the South Rapids folk instead."
"we don't know that." she rubbed at the hollows beside her eyes, wind-reddened from watch earlier that evening. "we just have to trust the others, and do what we need to in the meantime."
-
"this whole thing is ridiculous. I know you're the captain, I know it's orders, but - really." they were taking advantage of the situation a little, because she was leaning on them for support on the way up the staircase, leaving haphazard splashes of blood on the stones behind. talk of a captive audience.
"only ridiculous - thing here - is how long - these stairs are." she had bitten her lips white, and her voice was clipped. "this was - just a skirmish - just a test - "
they didn't speak again until they were in her office, among the scattered papers and bits and odds and ends of fort life, the cot in the corner passing for a good rest. she sank down there gratefully and accepted their help undoing what was left of her jacket, the arrow shaft still tangled in fabric and flesh halfway between shoulder and elbow.
"don't move. lie down. I'll get Thomas."
"he's got enough to do - with the other wounded. worse off than me. you've - helped me before, now help me again."
-
the sharp flush of fever on her cheeks, the guarded way she held her sling-wrapped arm against her body, showed them all they needed to know that evening. that, and the sinking sunlight not quite dim enough to hide the sight of approaching horses and riders in the distance, a wider spread of the advance than any of the little scouting bands that had tried their fortress's strength before.
behind them, the river; before them, the enemy; and she was leaning on them for help again, as she organized that evening's guard assignments, the nervous-looking soldiers forcing grim smiles to match her confidence.
they weren't ready yet to contradict her in front of the others. insubordination wasn't a good look, and would make no difference anyway at this point.
only to catch her as she staggered on the way off the walltops, and steady her on the descent into the main keep, and then to pray to whatever merciful Heaven might be listening that her hopes were not misplaced.
although if the lot of them truly were stranded here - abandoned to the incoming attack - then they would stay with her, in any case, till the end.
-
she was finally asleep, sweat-matted hair pinned to her temples, the blankets tousled around her restless form. they opened the door of the office as quietly as they could in answer to the low knocking, trying not to rouse her, the dull sick ache of fear in their chest.
"Captain - oh, lieutenant, it's you, sorry."
"Captain's resting. what's the news?"
another attack, no doubt. more scouts, or archers, or a force organized enough to try undermining the walls. the possibilities were truly endless at this point, and universally unpleasant.
"messenger from the south." the soldier's grin was genuine this time, one of the most credible smiles seen for days if not weeks. "there's five companies on their way to us, should be here by dawn."
they felt their own face pull into a smile, rusty and unpracticed.
"thanks for the news," they said, and found their voice hoarse suddenly, "I'll tell the captain when she wakes."
tell her that she was right, after all; that they weren't alone.
When Charlie logged onto the QSMP today he wasn’t expecting everyone to go all out for him.  The entire server came together and set up a scavenger hunt for Charlie’s Birthday.  Tallulah, Chayanne and Dapper went around giving Charlie hints as to where his birthday presents were hidden around the server.  Everyone was having a grand ole time, laughing, playing pranks, Tallulah taking lots of pictures for Charlie to have for his birthday scrapbook.  Charlie was laughing so hard he started to get the hiccups and he was smiling so much that cheeks began to hurt.  But Charlie didn’t care.  This was the happiest he’s ever been in a long time.  It was so nice to just have a relaxing day with his family.
When Charlie dropped off the kids and headed to his own home.  He still had a huge grin on his face, looking through the scrapbook and rearranging everything that Tallulah gave him.  Charlie’s heart swelled at the gift.  Tallulah kept getting better and better at taking pictures and making scrapbooks.
Charlie entered his house ready to turn in for the day when he noticed something on the table.  A small book that read, Go Out Back.  It wasn’t signed or anything.  Was this another present from someone that was just late in getting it to him?  Maybe it was from Bad?  Or Fit?  Or Phil?  Smiling to himself, Charlie went out to the back and his mouth dropped.  There sitting in the back of his house was his own personal train!  Charlie got inside and began looking around grinning ear to ear.  Charlie always loved trains, ever since he was kid.  He was always fascinated by them.
Climbing into the train, Charlie flipped the lever and the train started to go, speeding up a bit going down hill and around the turns.  Charlie let out whooped and laughed all the way down.  When the train stopped, Charlie got out and for the second time that day, his jaw hit the floor.  It was a beautiful little cabin.  Made out of oak in the Mountainside, with a beautiful pound, and stone step walkway.  The pound had a few different kinds of fish and sparkling lights.  It reminded Charlie of the cabin he was going to build for Juannaflippa.  Near that fishing point that Flippa loved so much.
Charlie went inside the Cabin, he couldn’t wait to see what surprise his friend had done for him.  Was this a Surprise Party for him?
“Well this is ominous,” Charlie said, seeing that the Cabin was pitch black with one candle lit.  Curiosity getting the better of him, Charlie moved forward and saw there was a small birthday cake with the candle that was lit and a note next to it.  Deciding that he was more hungry then scared, Charlie took a piece of the birthday cake and ate it.  It was surprisingly really good!
“Phil?  You here?  Bad?  Fit?  Cellbit?  Anybody?”  Charlie called out looking around the Cabin and noticing how eerily quiet it was.  The only thing making any noise was the crickets and fish outside and Charlie’s footsteps inside.  “Guys?  Haha, good prank everyone.  You really got me.  You can come out now.”
No one.  No one answered.  Charlie let out another nervous laugh and decided right now would be as good a time as any to read the note.  1 M1ss Y0u (I miss you) it read.
“What?”  Charlie said softly.  I miss you?  HUH?  Then he heard it, if he wasn’t so focused on the letter then Charlie might have missed it.  It was really soft, like someone was trying not to make a noise.  It was footsteps coming from the corner of the Cabin.
Charlie walked over to the corner of the Cabin and was surprised to see another room was there.  “Okay, well this is certainly not ominous.  Wait, is this the part where Bad releases one of his captured Mobs on me?”  Charlie said to himself with a shake of his head.  Yeah, that would be exactly what Bad would do!
But it wasn’t.  Instead of a capture Mob meant to spook Charlie, out came a very nervous and timid  .  .  .
“JuannaFlippa?  Is that - is that really you?”  Charlie asked in disbelief.  His daughter, his beautiful wonderful chaotic daughter, that he lost due to a bug in the system and a misclick.  Was standing right in front of him.  Head down, and walked very softly as if trying to not draw attention to herself.
“JuannaFlippa?”  Charlie breathed and his knees gave out.  Crashing to the floor on his knees in front of his daughter.  Charlie, grabbed her and pulled her in a bone crushing hug.  Why was his cheeks wet?  Why was it so hard to see?  Why was there water on his glass?  Must be a leak on the roof.
“Flippa?  Is that really you?”  Charlie pulled away for a bit looking at his daughter.  “Oh, you have a few scares there, but that’s okay, Flippa.  You’re still as beautiful as ever and scares just show how tough you are.”
“H1, D@ddy! (Hi, Daddy!) 1 m1ss3d y0u! (I missed you!)”  Juannaflippa said.  It took Charlie a minute to figure out what she said.  It almost sounded like there was a bit of static there.  But he understood what she said.
“I missed you too, baby girl.  I missed you too!”
“Daddy, I have to go,” Flippa said.  “I just wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday.”  Flippa then turned around and began running up the stairs above the lava.
“What?  No!  Flippa come back!  FLIPPA!”  But there was no sign of her.  “Flippa!  Come back, Flippa!  Is this a prank?  Is this a prank, where you hide and I have to come find you?  FLIPPA!”
“Hahahahah!”
“No!  Bring her back!  Cucurucho!  Bring her back!   Please bring her back!  I’ll do anything.”
Cucurucho stared at Charlie for a few minutes then handed him a book.
“Are you willing to do anything to get your daughter back?”  Charlies read it out loud.  “Yes!  I’m willing to do anything!  Just name it!”
Cucurucho gave Charlie another book to read.
“Then I know what you can do to get your daughter back.  Help the Federation bring forth the Angel of Death.  The Angel of Death can bring the Eggs back from the Dead,” Charlie read.  “Wait, the Angel of Death?  It's here, on the island?”
Cucurucho gave Charlie another book.
“Its vessel is.  If we control the vessel then we can control the Angel of Death.”
Charlie had a bad feeling about this.  The Angel of Death was no joke.  He heard the tales, and knew the legends and stories about people who have crossed the Angel of Death’s path and the Angel sent them all to void.  Never to be seen or heard from again.  But this was for his daughter.  All Charlie had to do was something for the Federation and then he would get his daughter back.
“What do you want me to do?”  Charlie asked.
