Okay thinking of Sixth Sense reader just look Jake straight in the eyes and pulling out her hearing aids and Jake just instantly switches to sign language so she can't even rub from him when they are disagreeing and everyone is losing their shit over it

Jake doesn’t tell anyone he’s learning sign either. The only reason and I mean the only reason he starts learning more than a few signs that he picked up from you and Mickey is so he can’t ever lose in an argument with you.

He absolutely hates when you just go offline. So he gets a teacher and he learns how to sign and one day, the two of you are arguing across the bar. He’s just in a mood and you’re feet hurt because you’ve been on them all day and Mickeys child is using your bladder as a baseball bat and who the fuck does Hangman think he is arguing with a pregnant person?

So—you just look him dead in the damn eyes and switch off. It’s music to your fucking ears, the quiet. You shrug and pretend you can’t hear him, because well, you can’t. But then Jake signs back to you.
