On the last one I will not write your request if it doesn’t have to do with Krogan or it doesn’t have Krogan as the whumpee. Sending one will be ignored or will be deleted, depending upon the circumstances.
Plus I would prefer some caretaker!viggo as well:)
these are all going to be written, however whichever one wins will be written and posted first, and then I will do a rehash poll with the ones that lost, and so on. The open requests will be plopped into the voting next round. I’ll provide an in-depth explanation of the summary if needed in this space here.

Febuwhump day 2
Prompt: Failed Rescue Mission
Characters: Viggo Grimborn/ Hiccup Haddock
Whumpee(s): Hiccup Haddock
TW: Blood/ Major character death
Pairing's: Viggo Grimborn/Hiccup Haddock, Hiccup Haddock/Astrid Hofferson
Summary: Hiccup manages to convince Viggo to let him at least try and save him. Though they make it out of the tunnels alive, can they manage to make it off of the island.
"Hiccup you are more ruthless than you realize," spoke Viggo through the pain in his back "I know you will defeat Krogan and Johann." Viggo took Hiccup's hand and gave it a tight and gentle squeeze. When Viggo let go of him, Hiccup held the accomplice in the palm of his hand.
"Viggo just let me try and save you," pleaded Hiccup quietly. Viggo looked at the Skrill who crept up next to Toothless, the longer Viggo was safe the higher the risk of the dragon being injured, or worse. Despite Viggo not wanting to he couldn't risk the Skrill's life. He also knew Hiccup wasn't going to give up so he hesitantly nodded at the boy. Maybe they could use themselves as a distraction to draw fire away from the skrill. As the two mounted Toothless they could hear the hunter's coming closer by the second. Viggo carefully held onto Hiccup's waist as Toothless took off and swiftly flew out of the room before the hunters could arrive. When the three of them made it to the tunnel entrance, they were caught in an air turret.
Viggo shouted in pain as he fell off of Toothless and slid across the ground before the air turret stopped him from going any further. Viggo let out a sigh of relief as he saw the Skrill fly away from the danger. While it was sad to see his friend go, it was better knowing he would be safe. As Hiccup and Viggo looked up, they came face to face with Johann. Viggo closed his eyes tightly as his body tense up while Hiccup screamed in anger. Toothless fired a plasma blast into the dark, night sky. Johann looked up in disappointment then back at Viggo and Hiccup. Viggo new the idea of being rescued was hopeless. Why couldn't Hiccup just listen for once in his life?
"Is that all?" taunted Johann "Your pathetic plan fails and a frustrated yell will be your final words while trying to save this idiot?" Viggo tried to get up on his knees to look Johann in the yes but the pain in his back was too much for him at the moment.
"I expected more from Hiccup Haddock the III and Viggo Grimborn," stated Johann sinisterly.
"Actually it was Viggo's pathetic plan that failed," explained Hiccup angrily "And by the way, I wasn't yelling in frustration.
Viggo's eyes squinted in confusion as an apple that was lit on fire hit the ground from above. As some of the hunters looked at each other in confusion, Viggo heard a voice call out from above.
"Coming in hot and blowin' out snot!" Viggo recognized that voice, it was Tuffnut. As the men shouted in surprise and and ran away from the twins and their Hideous Zippleback, Viggo watched weakly as Ruffnut said something to her brother. Zippleback gas began to fill the air as Viggo tried once more to get on his knees, and lot's of it.
Viggo hadn't noticed that Hiccup had managed to crawl out of the net and was trying to set them free. Once Toothless was out, Hiccup navigated the net around the arrows to untangle Viggo. Hiccup quickly mounted onto the Night Fury and pulled Viggo up on the saddle. As soon as the two were set, Toothless took off flying anywhere out of the range of the arrows. As the fierce dragon gained more altitude Viggo felt something sharp puncture his side. Viggo shouted in pain as he reached for his side to stop the bleeding. That's when he realized what had hit him, it was another arrow that had pierced through his armor on the lower right side of his abdomen. Viggo wasn't going to make it. There was nothing Hiccup could do to fix this problem.
"Viggo please stay awake!" shouted Hiccup worryingly. Hiccup looked over his shoulder to see blood pooling through Viggo's shirt. Hopefully he could make it to the Defender's of the Wing island. Then maybe, just maybe, he'd be able to make it through this.
. . .
"Hiccup are you alright?" asked Astrid frantically as she hopped off of Stormfly and ran over to Hiccup.
"Yeah, but I'm more worried about Viggo right now," answered Hiccup honestly. Soon after escaping the hunter base Viggo began going in and out of consciousness due the amount of blood he had lost. Hiccup and the twins increased their speed and sent a message to the other riders letting them know their whereabouts and everything was relatively okay. Hiccup had the twins explain Viggo's situation in the letter so they'd be aware of what was happening.
"How could you be worried about him?" whispered Astrid furiously as she gestured to the healing hut behind him "After all he's done to us!" Hiccup frowned and sighed. He had no doubt Astrid was obviously skeptical about Viggo attempting to sacrifice himself. Even she knew that Viggo's actions couldn't just go unnoticed though. Whether they were true or not.
"Hiccup!" called Mala calmly. Hiccup turned around and quickly walked up the small steps of the staircase to the hut before facing the queen.
"Is he going to be alright?" asked Hiccup distressfully. Mala took a deep breath and crossed her arms.
"He came to again as we began removing his armor, but he won't let us treat him any further than that," elucidated Mala "He wants to have a word with you."
Before Mala could stop him and say anything else on the matter, he ran into the building to find Viggo. Hiccup exactly which one was his when he noticed Throk guarding one of the many doors filled with the sick and injured. Hiccup didn't bother to acknowledge Throk as he opened the door and barged into the room. No one was in the room but the two of them. Why in Thor's name wasn't any body with him. Viggo must of sensed his anger and spoke up.
"I told them to leave," murmured Viggo with a smile on his face as if to hide he wasn't in the slightest bit of pain. Hiccup stomped over to the shelves and looked for medical supplies fit for treating Viggo's wounds.
"Hiccup," breathed Viggo as the boy began picking up items and shoving them under his arm to take with him over to Viggo.
"Why wouldn't you let any of them help you?" asked Hiccup angrily with a hint of sadness in his voice.
"There's nothing they can do," rasped Viggo "I'm already blind in one eye, my face is scarred, and I have arrows stuck in different places of my body. They'd be wasting their time on me rather than someone who could really need it. Hiccup slammed the several kinds of healing salves and bandages onto the small nightstand as he began to cry silently.
"But you need that hep Viggo, you're one of those people!" cried Hiccup as he reached for the arrow in Viggo's side. Viggo gently grabbed his wrist and held it in place.
"I thank you for trying to save me but you and I both knew how it was going to end," chuckled Viggo "And you taught me another lesson I wish I'd learn along time ago."
"Is it dragon's are magnificent creatures because you've already told me this?" sniffled Hiccup as he pulled away from Viggo and reached for the numbing slave "We're wasting time talking while I could be helping you."
"You taught me how to love," whispered Viggo weakly. Hiccup struggled to hold back a sob as he looked at Viggo's dying form.
"You were the only person who matched my intellect, I became attracted to you for that," laughed Viggo "I love you." Hiccup's breath hitched and began to sob as Viggo's eyes closed and he had to watch helplessly as Viggo took his last breath. Hiccup reached for Viggo's limp corpse and screamed in desperation.
"Viggo wake up, don't go!" begged Hiccup "If you love me than don't leave me!"
Hiccup thrashed and kicked as someone gently began pulling him off of Viggo. As the person began shushing him in an attempt to calm him down, Hiccup recognized it as Throk.
"It's okay Hiccup Haddock," soothed Throk "He's in a better place now."

“It’s okay if you’re scared of dying. Your friends were too.” Krogan’s voice was soft, as if it was supposed to soothe Hiccup, but his words struck him through with both terror and anger and shock. His friends? Dead?! No, no! They couldn’t be! They couldn’t be!
“You’re lying.” Hiccup’s voice shook. He’d been stuck in this cage for about a week now, and he hadn’t seen any of his friends in this cave system that he appeared to be in. That didn’t mean that they were dead though, did it? Krogan must be lying to him.
Krogan shook his head, laughed a little. He had his halberd resting against Hiccup’s cage.
“I’m not lying, Hiccup. Your friends are dead, and you will be next.”
Hiccup screamed in rage. He stood, hit his bound hands against the bars of the cage. That hurt, but he didn’t care. No, no! This couldn’t be the truth!
Krogan just laughed at him. He picked up his halberd and left. Hiccup was alone in the room. He screamed again, hit his hands against the bars even harder, jarring pain through his hands and up into his arms. He looked at his hands, saw blood on them, but that didn’t matter. He had to get out, had to save his friends, had to prove Krogan wrong.
He sat back down, breathing hard. There were tears in his eyes. His friends weren’t dead. They couldn’t be. They just couldn’t be.
---
Another week passed. Hiccup didn’t see his friends for that time, and he was starting to believe Krogan’s words. The man tortured him in that time. Not for information. Just for fun, it seemed. He promised that he would kill him, but so far he’d made no move to do so.
And yes, Hiccup was afraid of dying. Why wouldn’t he be? What was there on the other side? Wouldn’t it hurt? What was he leaving behind? All of these questions made his head and chest ache, even while the rest of him burned with the cutting of a knife.
Would he be leaving his friends behind if he died? Or would he be seeing them again? Where was Toothless? Gods, was he dead too? Was everyone dead but him?
Those thoughts almost broke Hiccup, but he had to stay strong, had to find a way out. He had to rescue everyone.
Because they couldn’t be dead.
Hiccup cried every night. He was hurting badly, inside and out. The thought of his friends being dead tormented him worse than Krogan’s knives and chains and whips. He lay in his cage, wanting to scream, but feeling too weak to.
Dead, dead, dead. They can’t be, they can’t be.
But Hiccup had not seen or heard any sign of them since their capture. The only news he’d gotten of them had been that they’d died, just like he was going to.
So, Hiccup cried. He cried hard, making his body hurt even more than it already did.
His friends were dead. And he was going to join them. He didn’t know if that thought gave him solace or fear.
---
“Hiccup? Hiccup!” The familiar voice pulled Hiccup from his sleep. He blinked in confusion. For a moment, he’d thought he’d heard Astrid. But no, that couldn’t be right. She was dead, along with everyone else. He closed his eyes and decided he would try to go back to sleep. He must have been dreaming.
The cage opening, footsteps coming in. Those were familiar too, but they weren’t Krogan’s. Whose was it? Was he still dreaming? He had to be, because Astrid was dead.
“Hiccup, wake up.” A gentle hand on his shoulder. Hiccup opened his eyes into dim light. He rolled over, looked at who had woken him.
“Astrid?” He almost wasn’t willing to believe it. Maybe this was just another one of Krogan’s games. Maybe he had drugged him and he was hallucinating, only seeing what he hoped to see.
Astrid put a hand to Hiccup’s face, and he looked past her, saw all his friends standing outside his cage. The dim light was coming from a lantern that Fishlegs held.
“Gods, what has he done to you?” They all looked relatively unharmed. That was good. His hallucination wasn’t making him hurt anymore than he had to. But yes, this did hurt. It hurt because all his friends were dead and he was seeing them anyway.
“You’re not real,” Hiccup told her. It was the drugs in his system. It had to be. He couldn’t remember Krogan drugging him, but that didn’t mean it hadn’t happened. The man wasn’t above drugging people.
Astrid drew back for a moment, looking astonished. “Hiccup, we are. All of us are. We’re here to rescue you.”
“He told me you’re dead. And I haven’t seen you since. So you’re dead.”
Astrid cocked her head. “What? Hiccup, we’re right here!”
Hiccup shook his head. He laid back down, curling into a ball. “You’re dead. You’re all dead.” Tears choked up his throat. “Dead, dead, dead.”
“Hiccup, we’re not. Please, just come with us. We know where the dragons are. We can get out of here.”
“Can we?” Hiccup felt like he would be stuck here forever, or at least until he died too. He didn’t know when Krogan would kill him, when he would be done with his games. Drugging him and making him see his friends was cruel though, the cruelest thing he’d ever done.
“Yes. Come on. Please come with us.”
Hiccup stood shakily, and Astrid helped him. Her touch was actually there, but he still didn’t believe it. He didn’t have any reason to. Then, he left the cage.
---
Hiccup didn’t believe any of this was real until he was touching Toothless. He knew those scales, knew the sounds Toothless was making. This was all real! His friends weren’t dead!
“I believe you,” he said, turning to his friends. They all had their dragons and were about to leave the cave system. “I-I’m sorry.” Hiccup shook his head, trying to clear it. “Krogan told me you were all dead. He’s been playing games with me. I thought I was drugged.”
“You’re not drugged,” Fishlegs said. “We’re real. We’re here.”
Hiccup smiled, tears in his eyes. Though, they were happy tears, the first ones of their kind that he’d cried in a while. Recently, his tears had only been ones of pain.
He laid a hand on Toothless’ head. “Okay, let’s get out of here.”
---
The opposition they faced upon their escape was no match for their dragons, who had had enough of captivity and were ready to get in the air. Now, they were flying towards Dragon’s Edge. It hurt to be sitting on Toothless, but flying still felt good. Hiccup was free. Free. And he had his friends with him. Gods, he’d thought he was never going to see them again. But here they all were, surrounding him on their dragons. It made him feel safe, happy.
No one talked as they flew, knowing that there would be plenty of time to talk when they got back to the Edge. It was still night, and they were all tired.
Upon returning to the Edge, they had Hiccup take his shirt off and lay on one of the tables to be inspected. He was covered in various wounds, some older, some newer. Fishlegs got out the alcohol and the stitches. He didn’t have a very strong stomach, but he was the best healer they had.
“He made you think we were all dead?” Snotlout asked. Hiccup winced as a cloth covered in alcohol was pressed to a wound in his abdomen.
“Yeah,” Hiccup answered. His chest ached thinking of that. He’d spent so much time thinking they were dead. And yet here they were.
“How did you not… break?” Ruffnut asked. For once, she and her brother were being serious.
“I think I did,” Hiccup responded honestly. There was no other explanation for the way he’d lost his will and anger, for the way he’d stopped fighting Krogan. “I believed it for so long, and I never saw any of you.”
“We… we thought you were dead,” Astrid said. She was by Hiccup, holding one of his hands. That helped with the pain he was feeling. There were tears glimmering in her eyes. “He told us he’d killed you, that you’d begged him for death in the end.”
That made Hiccup’s chest ache. So his friends had thought he was dead all this time.
“But you still came looking for me.”
Tuffnut nodded. “Well, duh. We had to! We didn’t believe him for one second!”
“I’m… I’m sorry I believed him,” Hiccup said. He flinched a little as Fishlegs started with the first stitch, grunted. “He just repeated it, every time he was torturing me. I thought it was true.”
“I’m glad we’re all here together,” Fishlegs said. That made Hiccup smile despite the pain he was in. Yes, he was glad they were all here together too. He wasn’t dead, and neither were his friends. But…
“Are any of you hurt?” Hiccup asked.
“Not really,” Snotlout answered. “He didn’t really touch us. Kept us fed too, actually.”
“Huh.” Hiccup wondered what the point of that had been, wondered what the point of this whole captivity had been. He hadn’t asked him for information, not once, and based on the state of his friends, he hadn’t asked them either.
“What is it?” Astrid asked. “You’ve got your thinking face on.”
“I’m just wondering why he did all this,” Hiccup told them. “He didn’t try to get information out of me.”
“He’s sick,” Astrid said with a shake of her head. “He must have just been playing with us.”
“Yeah. He must have been.” The fact that they’d been made to think they were dead was pointing to that.
But no one was dead. And they were all together. That was all Hiccup could ask for, all he ever needed. He had his friends with him.

it's not quite on prompt but this reminds me a lot of a fic i'm working on! the whumpee is on a mission to help a tenuous ally, and once it's over, the ally turns the tables. nearly two days pass before anyone realize’s the whumpee’s in trouble.
"And you remember the terms of our arrangement?" Shepard asked coldly when all was said and done. Petrovsky was dead, and Omega had been retaken by its queen. His job was done.
Aria turned slightly at the waist to look at him, arms crossed with deliberate ease. "Of course I remember. Drop your weapons, Commander.” "Like hell—" he spat, caught off guard. But the shock was short lived, and a defensive anger flashed to the surface at the unexpected threat. In defiance, Shepard drew his assault rifle. Did she truly intend to betray him? "I said," the asari repeated smoothly, cool tone tipped with venom, "drop your weapons. Do it and you will have my army for your precious war." Shepard was unsure of the asari’s intentions, but if she meant him harm, he would certainly return it in kind. And for all that he had seen during his time on Omega, recent or otherwise, he was inclined to fear the worst. Decidedly, the Commander steadied his aim, finger tensing on the trigger of his rifle; hauntingly, his eyes’ damaged cybernetics glinted red. Ever aloof, Aria's lips curled into an easy smirk. "Go ahead, shoot me,” she challenged, “I'm sure you'll make it off this station alive if you do." "Try me," Shepard spat, toying with the bait, "You won't make me your prisoner." "Don't be so sure about that," the pirate queen responded coolly. She tilted her head in a slight nod, eyes flitting to glance somewhere behind Shepard. "You've been my prisoner since you first set foot on my ship. I’ll give you one more chance, Commander: lay down your weapons."
“Go. To. Hell.” In immediate response to the ultimatum, a massive krogan stepped forward from the shadows behind Shepard. He lifted his shotgun, before bringing it down hard against the back of the Commander's skull. Shepard's eyes went wide, their red glow flickering as the world suddenly closed in.
He dropped to all fours, dazed and barely clinging to consciousness.
Taking a smooth step forward, Aria kicked the weapon from away from Shepard’s hands, sending it skittering across the room. "Even a fool like Petrovsky knew when to surrender, Commander. You. Are. Mine."
The whumpee is sent out on a mission that will take a while and requires little contact. It makes it so much easier for the whumper to capture them without the team realizing until the mission is supposed to be over.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hiccup is no stranger to torture. It's a sad thing to acknowledge, but he isn't. So when he's captured by Krogan and Johann, that is what he expects, and he's prepared for whatever these two plan on throwing at him.
Or that is what he thought when he was brought to this room and strapped to this chair. Because it isn't a beating that they give him, they don't whip him or hold his head underwater. Instead, they put him through something he could never have prepared for.
Tied to a chair, his everything hurts. He's bruised all over, his nose is bloody, but so far, it's nothing he hasn't suffered through before in any other scuffle or battle he's been in before. The strangest part is that his current injuries are mostly caused by the crash that resulted in his capture, including the possibly broken wrist.
A little suspicious as Krogan loves squeezing every little bit of fun he can out of every chance he gets to torture someone, especially when that someone is someone he has a particular dislike for.
Sniffing and smelling a mostly metallic tang in his nostrils from the blood, Hiccup flexes his fingers curiously, not quite as able to on one hand. They haven't been dislocated or broken, his ribs are fine, besides those bruises. He's just fine and that is a worrying thing.
His prosthetic isn't even missing and his tunic and armor, everything is still in place.
What are they planning on doing to him to get him to talk? Do they have some sort of ace up their sleeve?
But he shouldn't jump to conclusions. Doing so will only result in him stressing himself out for nothing. Who knows, maybe his friends are keeping them busy and that's why no one, but the guards right outside of this room are here and he's fine.
Wouldn't he hear the sounds of battle if they were, though?
No, again, he shouldn't worry.
But then, there are footsteps and Krogan enters. He looks just as pleased with himself as he always does, his hands together behind his back.
Hiccup doesn't like it, because this means that he might've brought that little surprise with him.
He wants to stress, can't help his worrying, but all he can do is the one thing he can do whenever he's captured.
"Finally, a visitor! I would've rather had Viggo because he's more interesting to talk to, but I guess you'll have to do." He used to be scared of Viggo, of what that man wanted him from and was willing to do to him, but ever since the destruction of his empire, he's somehow different.
He almost seems... less likely to hurt him. Hiccup isn't sure how much he can rely on this character growth, but maybe it's better than spending his time with Krogan.
"Even when you're captured, you will not stop running your mouth, will you?" Krogan asks, standing before Hiccup with an air that is at least a little less amused than when he came in.
"Not likely," Hiccup tells him. He plans on keeping the sass going for however long he's still able.
Krogan hums, just sigh of sighing deeply. Does Hiccup know how annoying he is?
"No matter, I have my ways of silencing your sarcasm." Upon saying this, he removes his hands from his back and shows what he's been hiding. It appears to be an opaque bottle of some kind.
Hiccup leans forward as if it'll help him look through the bottle to see the contents inside. He may not know what it is, but he can tell it's nothing good. He sits back and eyes it warily.
"Any guessed to what this could possibly be?" Krogan asks, but Hiccup simply stares at him, not answering.
And then.
"Do you want to find out?"
"I'd prefer not to actually." But Krogan isn't about to listen to Hiccup and he uncorks the bottle.
Grabbing him by his possibly broken nose, he forces him to open his mouth if he wants to breathe, to then dump the contents of it in his mouth. Dropping the bottle and still pinching his nose closed, Krogan covers his mouth next and Hiccup has little other choice but to swallow it.
Only once he's sure that Hiccup has swallowed does Krogan let go and Hiccup can finally breathe again. He coughs, his lungs attempting to draw in as much air as they can at the same time.
What was in that bottle? It tasted horrendous.
"Want to make a guess before it sets in?" Krogan asks, grabbing the nearest stool he can find and sitting down in front of Hiccup. This is something he wants to see up close.
Another concerning thing. Hiccup, in response, tries to lean away from Krogan as far back as he can, which isn't very far at all.
"No, no guesses." Besides, Hiccup has a feeling he's about to find out soon. Krogan specifically used the words "sets in". Is it poison? If so, will he survive? They need him for information, so surely, they won't just kill him?
Is it just because he's stressing out over this that he suddenly feels a little warm? Or is he coming down with something?
It worsens and it does so quickly. Hiccup begins to pant as he feels his temperature rise dramatically.
He looks around him, but there is no fire in here. So where's the heat coming from? Is it really coming from within him? Is it even heat? No, it begins to feel different, like electricity tingling underneath his skin, like lightning.
No. No wait, it's different again. It's turning into a burning sensation, like something inside of him is heating up, becoming warmer and warmer. He can't help but sweat, his body attempting to cool itself down, but it doesn't help. All sweating does is make him feel even more uncomfortable than he did before.
Something is burning up inside of him. Something is boiling. His blood... His blood feels like it's beginning to boil inside his vein, spreading the fire from his center to the very tips of his fingers and toes.
Within seconds, it's everywhere.
"It's... It's Triple Stryke venom." Hiccup recognizes the sensations and states, swallowing.
Krogan smiles in satisfaction.
"Can you tell which one?" He asks next, happy to see the effects take hold so quickly, but then, he did give him a good dose.
Hiccup is already flushing red, already panting, and attempting to control his breathing when it wants to become faster and faster, his heart palpitating inside his chest. The boiling of his blood grows more intense.
"The-the painful one." He gasps and it's all he manages to say. It's not its scientific term, but he can't even remember what it is. All he thinks is "pain".
He begins to shake in his chair, the symptoms of the venom unpleasant, but not wanting to show how much of an effect it already has on him.
But Triple Stryke venom isn't known for being slow and the symptoms intensify with such speed that Hiccup wants to panic.
No, he can't let it get to him, that's what Krogan wants. He wants to see him cry and scream.
He's sitting opposite to him, smiling expectantly as he watches the panic take hold despite Hiccup's best efforts to keep a level head.
He's trying to hold on.
A shaky moan breaks free and Krogan's sadistic expression grows deeper, satisfied with such quick and pleasing results. Oh, he can already tell how much he's going to enjoy this.
"I'd ask you about the Dragon Eye lenses, but Johann implied that we should let you suffer first and I was not about to disobey an order, was I?" Krogan says and, of course, he wasn't going to disobey that order.
Hiccup can already imagine the way he must've gleamed when Johann implied that Krogan could go ahead and torture him before asking questions. Compared to Viggo, Krogan takes more after Ryker in smarts, but his cruelty is without a doubt unparalleled.
Hiccup is experiencing first-hand how cruel he is. Krogan could've done anything to him, beat him, break his bones, cut him, whip him, instead he's making him feel like he's being boiled alive. And because he won't be dying, the pain will continue for however long Krogan sees fit.
Tears grow in his eyes and he wonders how long the dose given to him will last. An hour? Two? Three? How many?!
"The antidote. Krogan, please?" Hiccup doesn't like to beg, his pride doesn't allow it, but as the pain intensifies and the tears glide down his face, it's becoming harder and harder to hold on.
Oh, it hurts so bad. It hurts so, so bad and it hurts everywhere.
"Oh, that silly thing? I don't happen to have it on me." Krogan replies nonchalantly because, of course, he doesn't. And he doesn't intend to go get it either, if they even have it. He is much too content to watch Hiccup suffer and writhe.
His blood continues to boil, new surges of pain course through his veins, traveling through every little part of his body from his head to his toes.
And then he can no longer stop himself. He screams and Krogan's smile breaks out into a smirk. That sounds like music to his ears.
How much time passes between his first scream and now? Everything is a blur, the concept of time slips from his grasp, but it feels like hours have passed and Hiccup is still screaming.
His face a deep red, streaks of tears and snot on his face, and his voice is hoarse. Still, the pain draws more shrieks out of him and it might give up on him any minute now. And the excruciating sensation of boiling alive, it's still going strong.
Hiccup doesn't know the amount he's been forced to ingest and at the current time he's not in the right mindset to think about it either. His every nerve screams with him and Krogan enjoys it too much.
He hasn't moved from that chair, still smiling fondly at Hiccup's display of pain.
"I was going to ask you what you knew about the Dragon-Eye lenses, but it would seem that you're a little preoccupied." Going back on what he said earlier, he speaks to him again. If Hiccup even hears him over his own yelling, Krogan doesn't know and he doesn't care.
"Oh please!" Somehow, with a voice so tired and strained, words are still possible.
"Please, I can't take this anymore!" Hiccup begs him, writhing and squirming and finding no relief anywhere. The ropes are digging into him and he's starting to wonder if it isn't possible that his skin might be peeling and his flesh might be slipping from his bones. It certainly does feel that way, yet it never happens.
And he can see now why they left his clothing on his person. His woolen tunic scratches and itches his sensitive skin and his armor weighs heavily on him.
"Krogan, please!" But Krogan doesn't move from his spot. His rear is feeling a little numb from the sitting, but he doesn't mind.
"Krogan! I can't- Please, I can't!" He cries and he begs. How much longer until the pain subsides? His throat hurts and he can't stop screaming.
But then completely out of nowhere, Krogan stands up and leaves with anger on his face.
Does he suddenly have enough of Hiccup's suffering? Is he no longer a joyful sight to him?
With the assault on his senses, body, and mind, Hiccup misses the explosion rocking the cave system the Flyers and Hunters are using.
The Dragon Riders are here and not a moment too soon.
"No! No, don't go! Please!" Hiccup begs him to stay, the only one who he believes can take this pain away from him.
But Krogan walks away without looking back once, leaving him behind.
"Krogan! Please! I can't take this anymore!" He wails, pulling at his unforgiving restraints as if to chase after him.
Oh Gods, he's leaving him! He's going to die now, isn't he? He's not as fun to watch anymore because he's about to die, that has to be why Krogan left.
Hiccup continues to howl Krogan's name, begging him to come back and bring an end to his misery. He no longer cares how it ends, so long as it ends!
And then suddenly, his screaming stops.
His blood still boils, that hasn't gone away, but his voice has. Maybe it really has been hours and his vocal cords have finally given up on him. If so, how much longer will this torture go on?
At least with his screams now soundless, a mere pitiful wheezing, he can hear the rumblings of a battle raging outside. Though still going mad with agony, he knows now that the Dragon Riders are coming for him.
Where are they? When are they coming? The battle outside stretches on endlessly.
Eventually, even his silent screaming comes to an end and it's not because the torment has ended.
After however long he's been in this chair, it's almost like he's shutting down. His struggling has stopped, his tears merely fall with every blink, he shivers, and stares ahead.
The explosions and shouting outside continues, but a new sound just barely registers in his ears. Footsteps come running his way and there's more than one.
Opening his eyes, he can't remember closing them, Hiccup sees a dark shape coming in from the hallway through a blurry gaze.
"Toothless?" He mouths silently.
It is his dragon. Within an instant, he's in front of him and his dry and scale nose nuzzles his face. It hurts so bad and Hiccup turns his head away.
That puzzles the dragon, who realizes very quickly that something is wrong.
"Son!" To Hiccup's surprise, his dad is here as well and he lays a heavy hand on his shoulder.
Hiccup no longers writhes and screams, but at the strange expression he's wearing, Stoick can still tell that something is off. Is he tired? In pain? Now if only he would realize he's the one doing the hurting.
"What's wrong, Hiccup? Where does it hurt?" His father asks, grabbing his other shoulder as well, which he doesn't take kindly to either.
"Everywhere!" Hiccup croaks out inaudibly, going unheard by his dad.
At the very least, Stoick manages to figure out why the screaming he'd heard upon first entering this confusing cave system suddenly stopped. Hiccup lost his voice and Stoick can only imagine for how long he must've been screaming for that to happen.
But Toothless perks up, the only one still able to hear his Rider, and bites down with his gums on Stoick's arm to pull the limb away.
On any other day, he would've given the dragon a look, but fortunately, he understands what Toothless is trying to do.
"Oh Gods, I'm so sorry, son." He apologizes when he realizes he must've been hurting Hiccup somehow and he lets go. But whether Hiccup understood him is up for debate, his lost expression betrays little.
All that's left for him now is to stare listlessly in front of him, head slumped at an angle.
"Son? Hiccup?" Stoick tries to make him look at him, kneeling in front of him, but it's as if he's looking right through him.
Whatever mindset he's sinking deeper into to escape whatever's been done to him for hours, it's taking him far, far away.
He can see him fading away, it's almost like falling asleep without actually falling asleep.
What if this is a permanent thing? Great endless pain can do strange things to a person's mind and Stoick feels the much too familiar twinges of fear in his heart. Gothi needs to take a look at him.
Toothless can see it, too, and he whines at Stoick.
"I know, Toothless, we have to take him out of here." He agrees. He may still not be able to understand the Night Fury as well as his son does, but he understands that much, at least.
Assuming that Hiccup can no longer "be hurt", he takes this opportunity to undo his restraints.
Hiccup slowly looks over, but that's about the only reaction Stoick is getting out of him.
"Don't worry, Hiccup. We'll take you out of here soon enough. We'll make the pain go away." He promises, Toothless moaning in agreement and nuzzling his human's face again. Unlike moments earlier, he doesn't receive a response. Instead, Hiccup closes his eyes.
Once he's untied, Stoick cautiously lifts his light weight into his arms. They can meet with the Dragon Riders outside and head for Berk.
The Edge would be closer, but with Hiccup in the state that he's in, Stoick would rather go straight home and not wait two to four days for Gothi to be brought.
Hiccup stirs ever so slightly in his arms upon being moves, but whether he's unconscious or not, his father doesn't know. His head rests on his chest.
"Come, Toothless, we're leaving." He tells the Night Fury and they make their way out. The sooner they can meet with the rest, the sooner they can leave for home, the sooner Hiccup can be helped.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
It feels like his mind must've somehow turned itself off, because Hiccup doesn't remember leaving that chair or the long trip home. It's like he fell into a long sleep, just like he did after the battle with the Red Death when he lost his leg.
When he wakes up, he's on Berk. He can gather as much from seeing his room when he opens his eyes.
He's sitting in bed and Toothless is at the foot end of it. He appears to be resting, but he isn't asleep. Hiccup can tell, because when he moves just a tad, the dragon's eyes open and look at him.
Purring happily, the Night Fury comes closer as quietly as he can and he nuzzles Hiccup's face.
"Oh, Bud." He gasps, his skin still sensitive, but no longer as unbearably hot as before. He feels strange, but fine.
Hiccup smiles and pets his Bud on the nose, happy to be home and to be rid of the sensation of his blood boiling. It is such a relief.
But there is one more thing that draws his attention.
His hands scratching Toothless' chin, Hiccup looks behind him to see that he's sitting up in bed because it's his father he's lying against.
The man is asleep with his back and head leaning against the headboard and the wall behind it. There's a secure arm around his son to keep him close.
He must've been keeping watching over Hiccup while he slept along with Toothless. Hiccup doesn't remember being found, but evidently, something must've scared his father for him to keep this close of an eye on Hiccup.
This brings him a sense of nostalgia as the last time Hiccup was held like this, he was still a very, very young boy.
So Hiccup decides against waking the man up. He settles instead, choosing the safety of his father's hold over rising him.
Besides Krogan and the blinding pain, he doesn't remember much. But he hopes it's okay to stay like this for a little while longer before he eases Stoick's worries, sinking deeper into his father's hold with Toothless' head on his lap.

Comfortember Day 11: Enemy to Enemy
Summary: Set during RttE, somewhere after the Shell-shocked two parter. Hiccup doesn't always sympathize with his enemies, but when Viggo is triggered by fire, there's a part of Hiccup that can't help but aid him.
Rating: General
Characters: Hiccup, Viggo, Krogan
Pairing: None
Words: 1 121
Fandom: How to Train Your Dragon
Prompt: “PTSD”
Whumpee: Viggo
Author’s Notes: Hopefully, I pulled this one off right. It's also quite late, so I'm not sure how decent this one-shot is. At least decent enough to post.
I thought it was really interesting to have Viggo experience a panic attack and have Hiccup be the one to help him out.
Constructive criticism is appreciated!
Enjoy!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When captured by the Dragon Flyers, Hiccup expects many things and not one of them are good. But what he hadn't even considered in his top 20 of "things that can happen" is witnessing his foe, Viggo Grimborn, be triggered by a spooked Terrible Terror and be the one to keep him grounded because his sense of compassion would not allow him to just let it be.
Krogan, Viggo, they wanted to take another look at something on the Dragon Eye and Hiccup's reason for being here has not yet been revealed. They wanted to use the fire of a Terrible Terror when Krogan spooks the poor thing and he spews a burst of fire before escaping Viggo's grasp.
"ARGH!" Viggo isn't the most vocal of people, but he is the closest to the Terror's burst and a cry still leaves him when the fire comes too close for comfort. He covers the scar on his face, backing away. The blast of a dragon that small isn't big, but it's enough to be felt.
Hiccup, too, jumps back and minds the Terrible Terror as he hurries into his cage to cower behind the Dragon Master.
And Krogan, like the sadist that he is, laughs at both the Terror's fear and Viggo's reaction to the fire.
Viggo comes to stand next to Hiccup's cage. He holds his face and breaths deeply, eyes closed as the little dragon's fire so close to his face brings him right back to the volcano of Dragon's Edge.
Hiccup watches him, sees him tremble and pant and try desperately to keep a hold of himself when it's clear that he can't. His legs feel weak.
"Afraid of a little fire, Viggo Grimborn?" Krogan asks, laughing at the display.
Viggo would've done something about his laughing if he was able.
Krogan's joy comes to a slow end as a Flyers comes to get him with news, news Hiccup and Viggo don't get to hear. The Flyer leaves again, giving just as little about Viggo's distress as Krogan does.
"I would love to continue to watch this display of weakness, but I must go. I have more important matters to attend to." Krogan says, his delight with the situation still present even as he makes his exit and leaves the two of them behind. He doesn't care much about the Terrible Terror with Hiccup, not thinking so highly of dragons in general and certainly of one so small.
Hiccup watches him go, glaring at the back of a man who apparently thinks things like this are hilarious. Viggo is having a panic attack and Hiccup is all too familiar with them, they're not a laughing matter, they're not funny.
But to see Viggo have one, Hiccup just assumed nothing really fazed the man.
It's pitiful, but in an understandable way and Hiccup finds himself feeling compassion for him.
And Viggo is standing so close to him, too.
So Hiccup makes use of this opportunity to reach, not for the key Viggo has on him, but for the former Hunter's Chief's wrist.
On instinct, Viggo attempts to pull away, but Hiccup is stronger than he looks. The years of blacksmithing and dragon-riding can be thanked for that, so he doesn't let go.
"Viggo," He talks to him, swallowing the apprehension of having him so close. "I need you to breathe for me."
Hiccup can see the rapid movement of his chest, hears the short and shallow intakes and exhales, he can practically see the sweat dripping down his brow. Hiccup isn't expecting a response, but then one comes.
"I can't." It's almost too silent, but Hiccup picks up on it.
"Yes, you can. If it helps, I can breathe with you. Can you do that, Viggo? Can you follow me?" He asks and is given a nod.
"Okay, in." Hiccup exaggerates his breathing and Viggo attempts to follow.
"And out."
He can see it becoming black before his eyes, he needs to get his breathing under control before he passes out completely.
"Let the memory play out, let it pass. You're not at the Edge, you're not in any danger. Though I wouldn't say you're exactly safe either." Hiccup tells him and he can't keep the sass from showing.
"Are jokes supposed to help me through this, Hiccup?" Viggo asks, incredulously.
"Humor can be a solution to a lot of things, you should try it sometime." Hiccup claims, much to Viggo's agitation. And yet, he can feel the panic ebbing away. Something about breathing together and distracting him seems to work. Hiccup has clearly dealt with these before.
Viggo holds onto the bars of the cage as he calms down. His vision returns, though he's left feeling shaky and tired. He gazes at Hiccup.
He isn't sure what to do now. Does he thank Hiccup for the help? His pride almost doesn't want him to.
"Thank you, my Dear." But he does and realizes Hiccup has yet to let go of him. He doesn't comment on it and Hiccup releases him shortly after.
"Don't mention it." He tells him, knowing that the chances of Viggo ever returning the favor are very slim, but still feeling like it's only natural that he help. His compassion and morals wouldn't allow him to just wallow.
Hiccup steps away from the bars and picks up the Terrible Terror, who takes this as an opportunity to climb up on his shoulder to settle there.
Not saying another word, simply not knowing what else there is to say, Viggo steps away from the cage. He plans on grabbing the Dragon Eye and leave, but then he hesitates.
Glancing back at Hiccup, he finds him lost in thought, scratching the Terror's chin. He takes the key from his waist and approaches again to hand them to him. Hiccup stares at him in surprise.
"Take it and leave. If I'm right, that was a Flyer coming to get Krogan because your Dragon Riders have arrived. Take your dragon and leave." Viggo tells him when Hiccup takes the keys. He turns to leave.
"How do I know this isn't a trick?" Hiccup asks, though there's a part of him telling him that it isn't, he can't shake his distrust either.
"Consider me letting you go as returning you the favor I owe you. Now go." The Grimborn replies and then leaves and rather hurriedly, too.
Hiccup approaches the door cell with the Terror still on his shoulder and feels an explosion shake the ground he stands on. So Viggo's assumption is right and that must be the Dragon Riders coming to get him and Toothless.
The door soon unlocked, all Hiccup has to do is free Toothless and leave.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
His head pounding and the metal taste of blood on his tongue, that is what Hiccup wakes up to. That and the dusty smell of old wood mixed with dirt. Neither of those three are all that pleasant on their own, let alone mixed together in such a way and all Hiccup can do is groan in displeasure at this sensory experience.
He attempts to bring a hand up to his forehead to hold his head, but finds it blocked by the wood that he's smelling. His hand thunks against it painfully, without a doubt chafing the skin on his knuckles and fingers.
It's right in front of him for some reason and it's a struggle to bring his hand up and feel the drying blood staining one side of his face.
A head wound. He's had so many by now that he can just tell. He hopes he hasn't been out for too long or he might be in more trouble than he can afford.
With this sudden resurfacing to the land of the conscious, his groaning is met by muffled chuckling and something being dropped with a scrambled thud on something hollow. Like dirt being shoveled.
It isn't until it happens a second and a third time that he realizes that this sound is much too close for comfort and specks of dust fall on his face that he realizes that dirt is being dropped on him.
"He-hey! What's-" He coughs, turning to not get lungfuls of dust only to find that this space is too small for him to even properly turn.
Opening his eyes, or trying to with all that dirt, he sees old wooden planks with the occasional mistreated spider's web in front of him. A quick look provides him with no comfort and he finds he's surrounded by these planks. He swiftly realizes the position that he's in.
He's being buried alive.
"Oh no... Oh no, no, no, no, no, no!" He repeats it over and over again, coughing more than once with all the grime falling between the teeny tiny cracks between the uneven boards.
Those cracks are the only reason he can even see as slivers of moonlight can still wiggle their way inside.
The chuckling from outside comes again and two people are talking about something he can't quite understand. He doesn't recognize the voices either, but remembering the predicament he'd been in before he blacked out gives him all the answers he needs.
Dragon Hunters. Not Viggo's men, not anymore, not since Krogan took over. But though their master has changed, their hatred for the Dragon Riders has not. They've managed to get their hands on him and now they are trying to dispose of him in an utmost terrible way.
There's no reasoning with them, not with these people. So all Hiccup can do is try to break free.
There is very little he can do. A panic causes him to slam his fists on the boards, he kicks them until his toes hurt, and almost too late does he see the nails poking out of some of them. Clearly they'd torn down some aged rickety whatever to quickly put a poorly made coffin together. No care had been put in removing unnecessary nails.
One of the nails scrape against a pinky finger and the burning causes his hand to start trembling. He's glad he noticed the nails before he impaled his fist on it, but that scrape is still worrying. His skin broke just enough to bleed and the last thing he needs is to catch tetanus.
But he can't let those concerns stop him. He needs to get out of this coffin before he's been completely buried and he can't get out anymore.
They can hear him struggle and it's reason for humor amongst the Hunters burying him. They find his growing panic hilarious. Every pounding of his fist on the top of the coffin in the hopes of breaking through the wood, of dislocating a board just enough to tear it away, it brings forth new chuckles and he can imagine the smug smirks on their faces. The sound of his struggling must be like music to their ears.
Hiccup coughs again, tasting the dirt and the falling webs on his tongue and gags. What little light there is in this death trap is being taken from him as more and more ground is shoveled on his coffin. His heart is racing.
His fists and kicks are doing nothing. Besides a scrape, he can't muster up the strength required to do any real damage even to himself in such a small space. And he can't turn in some vain attempt to push with his shoulders or back.
"Bud! BUD! TOOTHLESS!" So Hiccup shouts at the top of his lungs as his list of options is depleted much too quickly. He's hoping beyond hope that his Night Fury's exceptional hearing will pick up on his calls.
He should be conserving his air and just hope that his Dragon Riders will find him in time. They should know by now that he's missing, they rarely separate for long as it is. They should know he's missing and know that this means he's in trouble.
"GUYS!" He shouts and hears his voice reverberating off the walls surrounding him and make his eardrums protest. It does his headache little favors as well as his growing frantic need to get out as well as the steady loss of air.
And then the last of his light is stolen, that little bit of airflow is cut off, when they finish covering the top of his coffin entirely with loose dirt.
How long will it take them to finish leveling this unmarked grave they've thrown him in? How long until they leave? How long until his air runs out? Surprisingly enough, he never thought to research for how long you can breathe when you're buried alive before the Outbreak.
"Please, please find me." He pleads for no one to hear.
Hiccup grabs fistfuls of his shirt, attempting to calm his breathing even as the gravity of his predicament threatens to suffocate the life out of him. It takes him everything not to hyperventilate. He can feel tears welling up, can feel the lump in the throat and he holds his breath for a full three seconds before he dares to breathe out.
His effort to keep his emotions in check is almost in vain, and tears do wet his face before he can feel the need to cry slowly ebb away, forcing that overwhelming emotion to back down.
He's been doing this for too long to let something like this break his control over himself, the control he's been so carefully protecting and crafting this entire time.
Though getting buried alive is certainly a first for him.
'Please find me. Someone, please find me. Please, please, please. Please, Toothless. Astrid.' He has to think his pleas as saying them will only waste what precious air he has left for now.
It's what his Dragon Riders have been counting on for the past three years and a half. His level head, his creativity, his ability to sometimes have control over whatever situation they find themselves in this time. He can't lose that.
They count on him. They count on him, he just has to remember that and hold onto that fact.
Attempting to imagine their fear, them realizing that they can't rely on their leader, he wants to use the discomforting thought of his loved ones being afraid to keep himself in check.
It's working.
They need him and that means he can't die. He just has to tell himself that.
The sweating and trembling of his body, his heart racing, his headache's pounding worsening aren't signs that he's failing. And neither is the near bruising grip on his arms or the nearly dried tears returning with a vengeance.
His squeezes his eyes shut, they streak down his temple.
"C'mon, Bud. C'mon." They leave as whispers as he can feel these cramped walls closing in on him, he can't keep them down. It's getting harder and harder to breathe and he's not sure if it's because of his panicking or because his air is already running out.
How long has it been? He hasn't owned a watch or a digital clock, like a phone, in such a long time. He hasn't missed a mobile device or even thought about having one since he's lost his months after Outbreak Day after it had run out of battery long before that. But the light would've been appreciated. He has a lighter, but a flame, even as little as that one, will only eat away at what little oxygen still present.
Oh, where is his trusty flashlight? Where is it?
"C'mon, guys. C'mon..."
It's just as he's starting to lose hope and his panic is nearing a point of no return that the sound of hurried shuffling finally reaches his ears. The layers of dirt above his coffin are quickly being removed.
He dares to open his eyes, but his bruising grip or his hurried breathing don't let up. He has to blink a couple of times as more dust falls, but then the layers go and he hears voices. He recognizes them instantly and they become clearer and clearer.
It's them. They found him!
"There! There, I can see wood!" He can hear Tuffnut shouting, immediately followed by impatient whining and claws clawing away the last layers to then scratch at the box itself.
"Toothless?" Hiccup asks and the slivers of moonlight returns to him.
"Hiccup? Hiccup, can you hear me? We're here!" And that's Astrid. He can just barely hear her over the clawing, but that's definitely her.
His panic doesn't leave. It isn't until Toothless manages to grab hold of the lid and rips it open that light and air wash over him like a rampant wave crashing on a rocky cliffside.
His Night Fury is the first one he sees.
"Bud," He whispers.
The fresh air hits him like a truck and Hiccup inhales as much of it as he can. Toothless lets out a pained moan and smashes their faces together in his want to touch his human, to feel his warmth and his presence, to be comforted by the fact that he's still alive and they got to him in time.
Their cheeks pressed together, Hiccup holds his dragon's cheeks to keep him close. His hands are still shivering and he has to suppress the sobs of relief.
"Toothless, how about we get him out of there?" Astrid suggests, laying a hand on his shoulder, and the Night Fury reluctantly moves out of the way.
Once they can, the Riders grab him and swiftly haul him out of his would-be grave. Fishlegs and Snotlout each grab an arm to pull on.
Out of the box and into the open air, Hiccup stands on his feet only to find his legs too wobbly. So they lower him down onto the ground and Toothless is by his side again. Astrid kneels at his one available side and dusts him off.
"Are you okay? We got worried when you didn't return from your supply run and..."
"We were expecting to find you bleeding out or in trouble or something. Never would've thought they would bury you alive." Ruffnut speaks up, her hand holding her other arm.
The Dragon Riders are gathered around him, both the humans and the dragons. Hookfang blows some grime out of his hair.
"Yeah, I'm happy to be out, too." Hiccup tells him, scratching the Nightmare's chin.
"Well, we're happy too, but can you answer my question now? Are you okay?" Astrid repeats her question as Hiccup has neglected to answer it before.
He looks at her for a moment and nods.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm fine, I just-I just need a moment." He tells her, though it is the opposite of how he actually feels.
He feels awful. Though he's out now, he's weak with fear. This won't be an experience he'll just get to forget like some others.
But he'll just have to suck it up.
That's what he's been doing for well over the past three years, just sucking it up and accept that this is his reality now. No harm in repressing this bad experience as well.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Krogan has always loved the deep scarlet color of blood. The way it shines in the light when it's fresh, the way it stains skin and soaks clothes, and splatters the ground, even how it dries. Blood is a medium of art to him. Especially when he covers his empty canvas, his prey, with it and they leave a trail as he runs.
The door to his personal torture chamber is open when he reaches it. He was planning on having another fun session with his honored guest, but it seems like the guest in question has other ideas.
No matter, this just means more fun for him.
There is red everywhere. On the chair his work in progress had been tied to, on the lock and the door handle. There is a trail of blood in the form of large splotches on the floor, too, and they lead outside of the room.
With his eyes, Krogan follows it and sees the occasional bloody handprint on the wall and he can only smile at the perfect prints, smudged just right to be perfect.
These create a good path to follow to wherever his little toy has run off to. He shouldn't be too hard to find with the state that he's in, though the mere fact that he even tried is certainly fun.
Krogan follows with the kind of air someone would wear when they've found a random piece of gold on the ground. Not silver, not copper, gold. Hands folded behind him, a joyous expression on his face, he walks in the direction the trail is taking him. He isn't in a hurry. No way the other has escaped.
"Krogan!" A Flyer approaches from a different hallway, probably to tell him of the escape.
"Don't worry, our guest can't have gone too far. Ready a healer, I'd hate for him to die on us when there is still so much fun to be had." He tells the Flyer, sending him off with a job to do.
While he runs, Krogan continues his relaxed chase.
He has to admit that he's gotten quite far considering his condition, the trail of blood keeps on going for quite a long while. In some places the splotches are much bigger, indicating that he might've taken a pause occasionally. Understandable, all things considered.
And then he finds him and Krogan's joy grows tenfold.
"Found you." He sings and his shadow looms over the figure curled up against a wall, facing away from him and holding his middle as his torn tunic runs even redder with blood.
"Did you really think you were going to escape?" He asks, causing his prey to look up to him.
"Well, you know me, always gotta do it the hard way." Hiccup attempts to sass to show he's unaffected by his failed escape attempt, but it is ruined by the way he trembles and the look of pain and exhaustion that he wears. He's pale, too, it's a result of the blood he's lost along the way. There is a shakiness to his voice.
A crash has left him with this gash in his abdomen and it's what caused him to be captured. Krogan has been... generous enough to get him a healer after he was brought back to his base. But it was admittedly all to keep him from dying too soon for his liking.
There isn't any specific information that he desires to know from him, not at the moment, Krogan is just keeping him alive for the enjoyment of it.
The fingers of his left hand have been dislocated and then put back in place just to have them dislocated again, it's caused them to swell. If the pain wasn't already keeping him from using that hand, the swelling certainly made it too stiff to use properly. His face is all bruised up with his nose bloody and a lip split, it pounded terribly. His ribs ache, too, and Hiccup can't tell that if they're broken or bruised. Lastly, his arms and torso are full of shallow cuts from a dagger, some of which are bound to scar.
Krogan's been having fun with him in the two days since he's been captured. He's taking his time, wanting to enjoy every day they get to spend together before death or the Dragon Riders come, whichever is faster.
"My, my," Krogan kneels next to him, grabbing his chin to look him over as he marvels at his work, forcing him onto his back.
"You do look pretty all covered in blood like this." He says with genuine delight and Hiccup finds himself tiring with villains who take some sort of interest in him. Though, Krogan's is purely based on how bloody he can get him to be before he eventually passes out and can no longer scream.
He lets go and Hiccup's head drops back down on the ground. He's too tired to keep it up.
If his stitches hadn't torn during his efforts to get free, he would've gotten out. That he failed frustrates him and he feels like crying. He won't give Krogan that satisfaction, but the urge to do so is terribly strong.
Gods, how he wishes his friends were here. He doesn't even know if Toothless has been captured, too, though he has a feeling his tormentor would've gloated by now if he had.
Krogan is almost gentle as he helps Hiccup up to his feet, mindful of his every move. Can't have his guts falling out, that would just ruin their fun all too soon for his liking. So he's careful and already thinking of ways to punish the escape artist after he's been stitched back up and bandaged.
Hiccup follows him, hating every second of the way back, of needing to count on Krogan for support. His only comfort is knowing that Toothless is most likely still out there and that his Dragon Riders will be coming any day now.
They'll have figured out something's wrong by now and with Stormfly's nose, they can find them anywhere in and outside of the Archipelago, so long as the trail is fresh enough.
But for now, Hiccup has to simply wait it out and endure whatever his captors have in mind for him. He knows now that escaping on his own is impossible with his injury. He won't underestimate the fragility of such a wound a second time.
He doesn't like it, but it seems like he has little choice but to wait.

[1/3]So I was thinking back to that one ask I send a long time ago about an injured Hiccup being stuck somewhere with both Krogan and Viggo and Krogan pretty much hounding them both for Viggo's interest in Hiccup. But what if Krogan took it a step further? What if it lead to Viggo actually taking advantage of the situation and Hiccup? And when Hiccup is finally rescued by the other Dragon Riders, he's mentally and emotionally shattered? Or maybe he desperately tries to keep it---
[2/3]--- together in front of the others, who just know something is wrong, but don't want to bring it up until Hiccup is ready to talk about it. And then eventually the moment comes when Hiccup just... breaks down. Maybe after they leave on a mission expecting to find Viggo only to find out that it was a false alarm all along. Like a "last straw that breaks the camel's back" sort of situation. That the stress finally got to him and he just collapses out of the sheer relief that he didn't---
[3/3]--- have to face Viggo or Krogan again. And then there is also Stoick, who may not know yet what happened, but does welcome back a son, who isn't quite the same one he said goodbye too weeks earlier.
Oh this is so perfect. I love everything about the whumpee keeping what happened to them a secret, especially with something so devastating. Such a secret weighs on them and really ruins all their interactions with others. And that would be tough with Hiccup because he and the Dragon Riders are so close and touchy. Like, they would know something was wrong and he would try his best to conceal it, which in the long run would just make him feel worse. And then breaking down after so long? Finally! Yes! The reveal of what happened is also perfect. This is great. It would make a fantastic fic.
