A2 Cow Milk – The Right Choice For Your Child’s Growth
Tumblr media
When you are a parent, you begin to worry about the health and growth of your child even before they are born. Every step of change is essential, from a pregnant mother's diet to a growing child's nutrition needs. In addition, choosing the right food is a crucial part of this process. As India struggles with malnutrition, stunted growth, and underweight children, focusing on a healthy diet is essential from an early age. For most Indians, milk is a vital part of our dietary regimen since we rely on plants as our primary food source. However, consuming the right and purest kind of a2 milk is critical.
Making The Choice
From whole milk to toned and skimmed milk, a wide variety of milk is available on the commercial market. In addition, there is milk from goats, cows, camels, sheep, and plants, such as soy, coconut, rice, almonds, etc. With so many options available, it is difficult to choose the right milk. According to various studies, cow's milk is considered the healthiest source of essential proteins and vitamins.
For an infant, breast milk is only food for the first 6 months. However, after six months, when they require alternative foods for nutrition, whole milk mixed with other foods like porridge and fruit is given to young ones. In light of studies, children must receive the right nutrition at this stage of their development, and A2 cow milk (or desi cow milk) has been proven to be the most appropriate choice.
Why A2 Milk?
As far as beta-casein protein is concerned, fresh A2 milk is closest to breast milk. Compared to A1 m, which cannot be digested in humans, this protein chain, which lacks beta-casein from A1, is quickly absorbed by children. As well as being delicious, A2 milk has numerous health benefits, making it an excellent superfood for growing children.
Bone Strength & Immunity
As a source of calcium and vitamin D, Desi cow milk or gir cow milk contributes to bone marrow formation and muscle strength in growing children. Minerals and vitamins are vital for increasing children's bone development and body weight. In addition to riboflavin (important B2) and Vitamin A, A2 milk strengthens the immune system and provides energy to children.
Wholesome Diet
Due to the milk products made from cow's milk, such as A2 curd, A2 ghee, and A2 paneer, which provide significant amounts of protein, A2 milk is a complete food for your children. The A2 milk proteins help children develop their brain cells and grow their minds. Children's brains are most active at just a few months old, and proper nutrition ensures their brain cells divide and grow more rapidly. To add, desi cow milk can be consumed with various other food sources in its purest form, making it a tastier versatile ingredient. So, if your child is not having those raw fruits or bland rice meals, make them a healthy bowl of Kheer or Fruit cup with fresh A2 cow milk!
Milk Needs As They Grow
A child's milk intake must be monitored as they grow. For an infant aged 6 months to 12 months, a cup of whole milk is recommended along with breast milk. For toddlers between the ages of 1 and 4, four glasses of milk or four times a day are recommended for proper growth. For kids over 4, 2-3 glasses of milk and milk products are recommended for a healthy diet.
Know your A2 milk source. Visit Milkmor, meet our happy cows, and choose your best desi cow milk, ensuring the best health for your children.

Wholesome Desi Parent Moments #1
(This is my own experience)
My mom lectured me on how it's important to play stupid when it comes to chores so that when I get married, my in-laws won't take advantage and use me as a servant. She also said that men suck and that no matter what, I have to work and get a good education if I want respect. My dad agreed with her, saying that men suck. I'm so proud of my parents.

Finally got to watch the new episode of Ms Marvel, prepare thyself for my fawning-over-rant.
5th episode spoilers ahead!!!
1. This was basically a historic episode. (Wordplay here hah). WE GOT TO KNOW SO MUCH.
2. India's history was shown so well. The riots, the hate, the divide-and-rule, the trauma!!! I'm so glad Marvel didn't sugarcoat it, and displayed actual events.
3. I FELT Kamala in that scene where she walks around the station hopeless and in despair. The tears the shouts the urgency the chaos the hope the well-wishers - I was so close to crying </3 </3
4. A very minor thing but I love how they use 'British Occupied India' and not 'British India' like yeahhhh it was India. And wrongly occupied. It wasn't British, no sahab ji.
5. Aisha, my love, she found a new home outside of her origin and I'm just so sjdkdksjsjsjs for her <33333
6. FAWAD KHAN CAME UP AND NOT JUST AS A PICTURE CAMEO HOW COOL. I WAS SO HAPPY I LOVE HIS MOVIES.
7. The desi actors speaking hindi/urdu was more wholesome and connecting than them speaking English. It's a universal fact.
8. Najma had her whole character arc aaah I went from ugh-najma to ohmygod-wtf-najma to SHE-DID-NOT-JUST-NAJMA within 20 minutes i-
"There is only 1 way. I can close it. Kamran-" *heart cracks*
9. And now Kamran had powers yeeeesssss!!!
10. Kareem better return in the next episode, I like that guy (*_*)
11. LASTLY, yes ofcourse Muneeba being a desi mom MUST KNOW about Night Light or its just....not desi. "Spyware for parents" is a desi mom's blood.
Muneeba and Sana and Aisha and Kamala and basically the whole Khan family supremacy. 👑

I like that Kamala's mom spent a good amount of the season trying to convince Kamala to talk to her family about her issues and promises she'll be there. And then delivers when Kamala does open up. Not a lot of writing in mainstream media that has parents promising to be understanding and accepting and then they actually go through with that. Wholesome content.
YES god yes like muneeba khan i wish u were my mom
like her actually trusting her and being there for her in the right way like god
and i specially like that these are desi parents we’re talking about

Hey, I finished bridgerton a couple of days ago and, being desi myself, I was happy with having rep in a period drama (because there’s a few). I just have a couple of things I wasn’t 100% happy with: (1) that fact that the Sharma family weren’t givin South Indian names. I know it was common for ethnic minorities to go by Christian names when they lived in the West during the 19th and 20th century. However, it would’ve been refreshing to see them go by names pertaining their background. (2) I believe the Hindi they used, was a little out of place and inaccurate. Kate calls her sister ‘Bon’ a lot, which I believe to be common in South Indian. While Edwina calls Kate ‘Didi’ all the time, which is common in North India. Are the Sharma from South Indian or North India? Why weren’t the show runners consistent with the language they used? Should they have done more research? What are your thoughts?
Hi!
1. I think Kate's full name is Kathani. Anthony mentions it in the last ep or something. I think. I think Kate had a tamil/desi name because both her parents were Indians. But in Edwina's case, one of her parents were British (altho Indian origin) so I can see why she as named as such.
note - I agree with the name representation! but also 12% glad they didn't use it because I know white people would have butchered the shit out of it. I mean even the way they pronounced 'Sharma' was was off if you noticed.
2. I cannot speak for the quality of the Hindi since I don't speak the language. As for the inconsistency in language, I tried to find as to the background of the characters but I couldn't find anything related to the books. If anyone knows, do let us know!
But this is my theory.
I think the Sharmas are North Indian. Firstly, they speak Hindi. Also the name itself shows they are not South Indian.
But I think Kate's birth mother could have been South Indian - hence her darker skin tone and her using Tamil words like 'Appa' to refer to the father. She seems to have a more South Indian background. Edwina on the other hand, who is raised by Mary, seems to have North Indian background. Eg: using 'Didi' to refer to the sister etc.
While I do know it's confusing, I actually appreciated it because it represents bilingual households and that kind of upbringing and the wholesomeness of it. I'm the same. I call my mother 'Ammi' (one language) but I refer to and talk to my sister in another language. Because both my parents speak to two different languages. So, I actually thought it was kinda cool :)

Eli×Crystal (also omgg you're desi too)
OH MY GOD HELLO FELLOW DESI (im bengali btw!!!) nice to meet you and ily
ALSO WAIT I HAVE THIS ONE PIC IN MY GALLERY FOR ELI AND CRYSTAL
Tumblr media
jk ofc
now srsly... definitely a slippery slope bcz i kinda uhh don't see it chemistry-wise? literally that like i wouldn't even say one-sided because ptj could've delved deeper into the reason behind eli's interest in crystal idk
however crystal validating his efforts at being an actually good parent, was definitely wholesome. eli very much needed that assurance during the god dog arc, when he was taking care of yenna all alone without his hostel family... like they have potenitial, but ptj doesn't explore it however
not a personal favorite but they could be cute in a "when both of u are dominant and infertile"kinda way lmao

now see im an indian kid who grew up listening to taylor swift this includes songs from fearless, red and 1989. but the thing is when people ask me how i listened to it becomes so embarrassing. in the early 2000s no desi parent was going to buy one cd for one album cause they used to be super expensive. and streaming platforms were like non existent. radio never played taylor swift. so we used to get these kind of illegal compilation cds which you would get at a local shop and they used to call them "20 top hits of 2011" or "top hits of the year." and each cd had like 1 or 2 songs by taylor swift which i jammed to like a maniac. and we kept buying more becuase each cd would have some new taylor swift song we never heard of.im not sure if they were 100% illegal but the shop is still up today 😂 and they have zero business cause of spotify. anyway i know this is super long and u probably wasted ur time reading it. but I saw a fellow swiftie and got excited
hii bestiee sorry it took so long to answer my brain could not comprehend anything apart from red tv this morning lol.
i 100% understand this feeling omg. growing up ppl have always made fun of me for being a swiftie and i remember getting into this very intense argument with a directioner when i was in middle school. but ig now ppl are realizing that it was their own internalized misogyny that was making them do this cause a lot of my irl friends have started appreciating her music now.
this makes me sound so old but when i was in middle school ytb didn't upload the non single songs so for a lot of time i just assumed that only music vid songs existed lol. 1989 was the first album where i heard the full thing at the time of its release🤍 thank god we have spotify/apple/gaana/wynk now. and same my parents would never buy cds cause it was too expensive 😔
omg saameee!!! i get sooo excited meeting indian swifties because of how less swifties i have irl and thank you for sending this it was very wholesome and i enjoyed reading it <333

My mom is going through some personal issues where she’s feeling really betrayed by her family, and she told me today that I have to become a doctor no matter what, because if I don’t, the little respect and dignity my parents and I have left will be gone. It made me tear up, because most people make fun of Desi parents forcing careers on their kids’ heads, but they have a reason for that and that reason is that they just want what’s best for their kids.

Quarantine Harry Potter Fanfiction *READING LIST*
I’ve spent the past months reading copious amounts of fanfiction and now my amount of AO3 bookmarks is absurd. I really need to share these because if I don’t I think I might implode. Drarry-centric but not all!
These are in no particular order nor is there a particular time frame that these were all posted. I have a little bit of everything in here just you wait.
On Punching Gods and Absentee Dads by Enigmaris
56 Chapters, 247k Words, Complete, no slash, T Rating
Marvel, Norse Mythology, Harry Potter Crossover
TW: Past Abandonment
Harry finds out that his dad is alive, has been the whole time. Instead of being overjoyed, Harry's disgusted. His dad left earth and abandoned his friends. Every painful thing he's ever gone through can be traced back to one man. Now Harry's got super strength he can't control and an almost unnecessary amount of magical power. His dad might be living it up with the Avengers now but not for long. With the help of his friends, Harry comes up with a plan for revenge. Get ready Avengers, Harry's out to punch a god.
We’re starting off strong with a Marvel crossover fanfic wow. Who knew that crossovers could be done tastefully as 2013 Wattpad kind of ruined it for us. However, this fic changed my mind! This fic is funny as fuck and is just a goodass time. I love a good multi-chapter fic (as you’ll soon see) and this one is a showstopper.
The Man Who Lived by sebastianL
42 Chapters, 254k Words, Complete, Draco/Harry, E Rating
TW: Major Character Death, Graphic Deptictions of Violence
Draco breaks a cup, and one thing leads to another. A story of redemption, tattoos, dreams, mistakes, green eyes, long conversations, and copious amounts of coffee.
With all of the Black Lives Matter protests happening right now, I think that this fic is super relevant. Draco has moved to New York City and is working as a receptionist at a tattoo shop and a mentor for inner city kids, but he accidentally gets forced to work out his differences with Harry, who at this point hates his guts. This fic is pretty serious, tackling themes of mental health, suicide, and police brutality. Every OC in this story is completely lovable and I cried my eyes out many times. When people ask me for a fic reccomendation this is the one I give people. Dare I say that this is my all-time favorite fic.
Warm Bodies by Betty_Hazel
Work in Progress, 37 Chapters as of 6/12/2020, 108k Words, Draco/Harry, E Rating
TW: D/s Dynamics, Graphic Porn, Dubious Relationship with Food
Draco Malfoy has spent his whole life wanting to go down on his knees for other men, and that's by far the least of the depraved things he fantasises about. He's wanted it all for so long that he's stopped believing that there might be someone out there who might be able to give it all to him; it comes as something of a surprise to find that maybe Harry Potter can, and that maybe Harry's looking for something too.
ALRIGHT MY PORN LOVERS THIS ONE IS FOR YOU! Don’t lie I know you’re horny. Somehow this fic is so fucking gorgeous and sweet yet so sinfully hot. It’s literally two boys who have never felt like their emotional needs have been satisfied learning to help and love each other like how much more wholesome does it get. I mean it’s all fine and wholesome until you get to the kinky sex which is WONDERFULLY WRITTEN MIGHT I ADD! I always say that if porn can make you feel something other than just horny, you’ve found a winner, and this story does just that.
Definitely check all the tags and I mean all the tags before you read this, but this is definitely one of my favorite porn with plot stories.
Running On Air by eleventy7
17 Chapters, 75k Words, Complete, Draco/Harry, T Rating
TW: No Archive Warnings
Draco Malfoy has been missing for three years. Harry is assigned the cold case and finds himself slowly falling in love with the memories he collects.
Might I just say that classics are considered classics for a reason. This is one of those stories that has the vibe of high school summer after senior year where all you do is try to escape reality and figure out your place in the world. While the plot is wonderful and the characters are great, I think what shines the brightest from this story is the writing style. It’s so enchanting and poetic with the best one-liners that make your heart hurt. On my AO3 bookmark i captioned it, “This just ripped my soul in half and restitched it together again,” and I still stand by that.
Lokison (Series) and How To Train Your Godling (Series) by sifsshadowheart
Main Story (Lokison): 33 Chapters, 244k Words, Completed, Harry/Various Characters, E Rating
14 Spinoffs/ Sequel Stories, Completed, Harry/Various, Various Ratings
Norse Mythology, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Various Fandoms Crossover
TW: Major Character Death, Graphic Violence, Underage Sex, Spiralling Mental Health
James and Lily Potter had a secret, one which led to Thanatos saving young Harry from a dreary life with the Dursleys and changed the face of the Second British Wizarding War before it ever began.
This story feels much more like a 12 season television show than a two hour movie if you know what I mean. The plot is pretty slow going but the character development and interation makes it worth it. The story blends the lore and events of the HP and PJO to make a completely new story without making it feel like a goddamn recap. The reader follows Harry from when he’s young all the way into adulthood and it’s a fun time to watch him grow as a character and bond with his parental figures. Also some of the spinoffs are really wild and I never would have thought of the pairings but they just work somehow?? My personal favorite spinoff is the Pirates of Caribbean/Calypso and Leo arc like HELLO?! hot pirates. The total word count of the two series is 465k so beware it takes a hot second to chug through this one.
This Worship of an Extinct Fire by Lomonaaeren
Oneshot, 30k Words, Draco/Harry, M Rating
TW: Graphic Depictions of Violence, Emotional and Physical Abuse, Deppression
Unspeakable Draco Malfoy has planned for nearly six months how to take down Thomas Linwood, a man who has discovered the secret of converting wizard bodies to pure magic. He was prepared for anything--except the discovery of the missing Harry Potter in Linwood's compound.
This one, I don’t know how it’s not considered a classic. I’ve seen it floating around on drarry tumblr and wow is it good. I especially like the detailed magic system and mechanics that Draco is investigating. How the author managed to have so much detailed and gracefully planned out backstory in 30k words is beyond me. Also gentle Dracoo Malfoy is my favorite Draco Malfoy :) absolute angel mode.
Little Compton Street (One Rainy Night in Soho) by LLAP15 and Writcraft
Oneshot, 66k Words, Draco/Harry, Past Sirius/James, E Rating
TW: Implied/Referenced Homophobia, Light D/s Dynamics, References to Cancer, References to HIV/AIDS
Draco is lonely, Harry hates the press and it won’t stop raining in London. Harry discovers a magical street that’s close to disappearing forever and Draco realises he’s one rainy night in Soho away from finding everything he’s been searching for.
This fic is, in every sense, a masterpiece. Especially for pride month, the story surrounding LGBTQIA+ activism, the AIDS Epidemic of the 80s, and the gentrification of historically queer communities is one that should be read by everyone. Every single place, OC, and historic event has real world ties and is historically accurate, making this fic even more enchanting. Everything about this fic is graceful and slow burning I can’t help but fall in love with it. I’ve only seen this fic once on HP tumblr, but I feel like it should be considered a classic as it is truly a moving piece. This fic is one of the biggest reasons why I became so enthralled with LGBT history and am writing a fic that takes place in a wizarding version of the AIDS epidemic.
Sensitive Touch by Raserwolf
45 Chapters, 194k Words, Complete, Draco/Harry, E Rating
TW: Racism and Racial Slurs, Homophobic Slurs, Ablism and Ablist Slurs, Rape and Sexual Assault, Sensory Overloads and Mental Breakdowns, Extreme Bullying and Hate Crime, Past Abuse, Anxiety Disorders, PTSD wow this is a long list
When Draco Malfoy encounters a struggling and frustrated Harry desperately trying to tie his shoes after a meltdown in the Great Hall, his curiosity regarding the incident leads him to seek the help of the two people closest to Harry: Ron and Hermione.
After even they are shocked to hear the extent of Harry's issues, though Hermione had her suspicions, he discovers more about the man than he ever thought he knew before.
As a Neurotypical, I found this fic to be absolutely wonderful. I don’t know much about the typical traits of those who are one the autism spectrum and how they affect their everyday lives, but from what I was reading in the comments from those who are on the spectrum or who have family who are, this fic was pretty accurate and realistic. Harry, who lives with aspergers, goes without a known diagnosis until 8th year and it’s just heightened by his PTSD and anxiety and ugh I just want to hug the boy. The story follows Harry and Draco and the rest of the 8th year gang through the year and has multiple arcs in which the wizarding world are just dumbass bitches who can’t fucking seem to accept people for who they are. Not only is Harry on the spectrum but he’s also Desi with a purpose and not just mentioned and forgotten which is wonderful. The boys go through a lot of trauma in the story but there’s also a lot of teeth-rotting fluff that I live for. This is one of the fics that I have read and reread because I love it so much.
This definitely is not my full list I have a ton more stories in my bookmarks if you are curious. I’ll probably post a part two to this just cause I have so much and read so often. These, however, are definitely the biggest highlights.

“you’re my mariah carey” :: a david/patrick fanmix
schitt's creek is over but my feelings aren't. here's the evolution of d & p's relationship through songs you know and songs you don't, folk/indie (because patrick), pop (because david), and some obligatory fire metaphors. also people from broadway because of who i am as a person.
listen here
track breakdown below the cut!
o1. someone to you // BANNERS :: "he’s a business major who wears straight-leg, mid-range denim. he’s not into me.”
o2. softly // clairo :: (except patrick is more into david than he’s ever been into anyone else.)
o3. mystery of love // sufjan stevens :: a first date and a first kiss.
o4. fired up // grace carter :: david, slowly learning to trust.
o5. i’ll get the coffee // kathryn gallagher :: new-relationship bliss.
o6. simply the best (cover) // noah reid :: open mic night.
o7. safe (acoustic) // shook twins :: “you stood in front of me and told me to trust people ... when i was perfectly fine not trusting people. not trusting people is what i’m used to.” (or, “the barbecue.”)
o8. you & me // james tw :: “you make me feel right, david.”
o9. the best // tina turner :: an olive branch.
1o. like mariah // fifth harmony feat. tyga :: patrick says “i love you.” he also says "you’re my mariah carey,” which david physically and emotionally cannot handle. pop music ensues.
11. finally (beautiful stranger) // halsey :: “i’ve been burned so many times i’m basically the human equivalent of the inside of a roasted marshmallow. but ... sometimes it does work out ... when you’ve got it, don’t let it go.” (or, david says “i love you’ back.)
12. bonfire heart // james blunt :: they’re not boring. they just don’t need anything else when they have each other.
13. adore you // harry styles :: “i couldn’t do it ... david, i love you, and i appreciate what you were trying to do for me, but i don’t feel the need to meet up with other guys right now.”
14. all my days // alexi murdoch :: patrick’s parents come to town. patrick reflects on just how transformative his relationship with david has been.
15. map of your soul // desi oakley :: “you made everything okay.” (or, patrick in the exact moment he realizes he’s going to ask david to marry him.)
16. fred astaire // jukebox the ghost :: general season 5 wholesomeness. season 5 is a good look for these two. i mean, look at “the mvp” alone. also, patrick can’t dance.
17. i choose you // sara bareilles :: a hike and a proposal.
18. ease my mind // ben platt :: the incident, aka the one where david’s anxiety is at an all-time high and patrick still makes him feel safe and loved.
19. home // phillip phillips :: “i’m gonna make you so happy here.” “you fucking better.”
20. precious love // james morrison :: the wedding, featuring a song that carries multiple layers of significance for one david rose.
21. always be my baby (cover) // tim halperin :: vows.
22. lover // taylor swift :: david and patrick in their new little cottage, married, running their business together in the town where they fell in love. this is the ever after.

I read all of The Henna Wars today (quick summary: romcom about two girls with rival henna businesses) and really enjoyed it!
super super cute!! the only book I’ve ever read with a queer desi protagonist, and the way her parents responded to her coming out resonated so much. I also loved how the sisters relationship was at the forefront of the book, and the romance was sweet too.
The theme of cultural appropriation & why Nishat was so upset felt way more, idk, authentic than a lot of discussions I’ve seen, like you could tell that it was written by a person who understands and experiences this.
some of the drama was annoyingly juvenile (to be fair they’re in high school) and I wanted the wrapping-things-up part of the story to be longer, it felt a little unsatisfying. but overall a fun and wholesome read :)

MARY WICKES
June 13, 1910 - October 22, 1995
Tumblr media
Mary Wickes (nee Mary Isabella Wickenhauser) was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to parents who were theatre buffs. A smart student, Mary skipped two grades and graduated from High School at age 16. In college, she majored in English and Political Science, though shifted her career goals to acting at the suggestion of a professor.
Tumblr media
Wickes’ first Broadway play was Spring Dance in 1934, acting alongside Phil Ober, who married Vivian Vance in 1941. Her second Broadway role was in Stage Door (1936) although she was not asked to repeat her role in the 1937 film. One of the RKO contract players cast in the film version was Lucille Ball.
Tumblr media
In The Man Who Came to Dinner, her seventh Broadway show in 1939, she played Nurse Preen, a role she repeated in the 1942 film, her Hollywood debut. She did the role twice more on television in 1949 and 1972. During her busy film and television career, she often played prim, professional women, secretaries, nurses, nuns, and housekeepers, who made sarcastic quips. She left Broadway in 1948, and did not return for another 30 years.
Tumblr media
Wickes did not do nearly as much radio work as many actors in Hollywood did, probably because she was busy on Broadway, but she did act opposite Lucy and Desi’s friend and house guest Orson Welles doing radio plays for  the “Mercury Theatre” program. She was also sometimes heard in the 1950 series “Crime Does Not Pay.”
Tumblr media
On December 19, 1949, in a one-hour live “Studio One in Hollywood” presentation on CBS (a weekly anthology series), Mary Wickes became the first actor to play Mary Poppins, almost 15 years before Julie Andrews immortalized the magical nanny on screen.
Tumblr media
Lucille Ball and Mary Wickes were more than just co-stars. Wickes was a close personal friend to Lucille Ball, who often went on vacation with the family.  According to Ball’s daughter, Lucie Arnaz, Wickes was her mother’s most constant friend throughout her life.
Tumblr media
Wickes was actually a regular on television a couple of years before Lucille Ball, as part of the cast of “Inside U.S.A.” (1949-1950).  Lucille Ball guest-starred on the series in November 1949. The show was done in New York and Lucy was delayed in getting to the studio for rehearsals, so Mary Wickes was asked to stand in for her. When she finally arrived, Lucy observed Wickes and was impressed with her work. They were friends from then on.
Tumblr media
A year later, Ball joined her film co-star Bob Hope on his television show, “The Star Spangled Revue”, which also featured Mary Wickes.
Tumblr media
In February 1952, Ball hired Wickes to play one of her most memorable characters, Lucy Ricardo’s ballet mistress, Madam LaMond, on “I Love Lucy.” This would be Wickes’ only performance on the series.
Tumblr media
Although she did not return to “I Love Lucy”, Wickes still maintained a relationship with Desilu, appearing on 21 episodes of “The Danny Thomas Show” from 1956 to 1958. She played Danny’s no-nonsense Press Agent, Liz O’Neill.
Tumblr media
At the end of the first season of “The Lucy Show,” however, Wickes returned to Lucy’s TV family. In her first appearance, her character actually used her birth name, Mrs. Wickenhauser in “Lucy and the Runaway Butterfly” (TLS S1;E29) in 1963.
Tumblr media
A few months later, Wickes is back. This time as Frances, one of Lucy’s friends, at the start of season two, which was shot (but not aired) in color. Fran takes the role of Charmian, opposite Lucy’s Cleopatra, at the Danfield Community Theatre.
Tumblr media
Fran was also a member of the Danfield Women’s Auxiliary Fire Department, alongside Lucy and Viv. So when they form a softball team, Fran and Audrey (Mary Jane Croft) also get involved.
Tumblr media
Fran’s final appearance finds her and the other volunteer fire fighters taking life-saving courses in order to impress Mr. Mooney and the bank trustees to save their brigade.  When that fails, Lucy sets a small fire in the bank, intending to be the hero and put it out - but naturally the plan fails.
Tumblr media
When the series re-set the action in Los Angeles, Fran was left behind, and Wickes instead appeared as a series of different characters, starting with Lucy’s Aunt Gussie, in “Lucy and the Sleeping Beauty” (TLS S4;E9) in 1965. The dozing beauty of the title is not Wickes, but guest star Clint Walker.
Tumblr media
In 1966, Lucille Ball’s favorite game show, “Password”, hosted not one, but two ‘Lucille Ball & Friends’ weeks!  Mary Wickes played during the November week. When Mary Wickes learns they are playing for money, she says “We have to give it to Lucy and Gary.”  Lucy says “That’s not true!”  Lucy and Mary win the second game in 28 seconds.
Tumblr media
In 1967, Wickes returns to “The Lucy Show” to play Mrs. Winslow, a mother in urgent need of a babysitter.  Lucy answers the call, not knowing her little ones are actually chimpanzees!  Oh, and there’s a baby elephant, too!
Tumblr media
A few months later, when Robert Goulet guest stars, Wickes plays his frazzled assistant, Miss Hurlow. With Goulet having three personalities, it’s no wonder she’s frazzled.
Tumblr media
On her final “Lucy Show” appearance (her 8th), Wickes plays another eccentric aunt of Lucy Carmichael’s, Aunt Agatha, a mystery guest who comes to visit  and makes turns Lucy’s life upside down by making her take part in her strenuous health and fitness routine.
Once Lucille Ball re-boots “The Lucy Show” as “Here’s Lucy” there is an attempt to make Wickes into a recurring character. She plays Isabel, a secretary in the same building as The Unique Employment Agency.
Tumblr media
The attempt only lasts two episodes, however: “Lucy Goes on Strike” (HL S1;E16)...
Tumblr media
...and “Lucy Gets Her Man” (HL S1;E21). Wickes only has 40 seconds of screen time at the very start of the episode. Mary Jane Croft joined the show shortly afterwards as Mary Jane Lewis, serving much the same function.
Tumblr media
A few months later, however, she was back. This time returning to her nurse’s uniform she filled out so expertly in The Man Who Came To Dinner (inset photo), to play Nurse Hurlow in “Lucy and Harry’s Tonsils” (HL S2;E5). Perhaps coincidentally, Wickes uses the same surname she used as Robert Goulet’s secretary on “The Lucy Show.”  Perhaps it was the same woman who got fed up with the craziness of show business and went into nursing?  Or, more likely,  the writers just ran out of names!
Tumblr media
For the first time, Wickes’ character doesn’t have a name, but she gets most of the laughs, as the personal care attendant of a germ-phobic little old lady with a gigantic diamond that needs cutting. Wickes spends most of her screen time spraying everyone she meets with an aerosol disinfectant!  Wally Cox plays the nervous jeweler.
Tumblr media
Wickes then gets into a habit she finds hard to break, when she plays Lucy’s sister-in-law, Sister Paula, in “Lucy’s All-Nun Band” (HL S4;E8) in 1971. Although Wickes only played two nuns on the big screen, in The Trouble with Angels (1966) and Sister Act (1992), both films had sequels where she reprised her roles.
“Women like me. They think I'm wholesome or something.” ~ Mary Wickes
Tumblr media
At the start of season 5, with Lucille Ball / Lucy Carter’s leg in a cast, she naturally returned to her whites to play Nurse Sylvia Ogilvy in both “Lucy's Big Break” (HL S5;E1) and the next episode, “Lucy and Eva Gabor are Hospital Roomies” (HL S5;E2).  The two episodes are both linked by Lucy’s recovery in the hospital.
Tumblr media
In “Lucy Plays Cops and Robbers” (HL S6;E14), Wickes plays Violet Barker, Lucy’s neighbor. Her husband is played by sitcom veteran Al Lewis of “Car 54″ and “The Munsters”. They are part of Lucy’s neighborhood watch group. The surname Barker will also be used for Lucy’s character on her final sitcom, “Life With Lucy.”
Tumblr media
In her final appearance on the series, Wickes goes to the old west when Lucy is elected honorary sheriff of a one-horse town called Cartridge Belt. Wickes plays Clara Simpson, the town philanthropist.
Tumblr media
In the last episode aired of “Here’s Lucy” there is a character named Mary Winters, a character written to be played by Mary Wickes, or at the very least, with Mary Wickes in mind. The role was filled by a very Mary Wickes-like actress, also named Mary, Mary Treen.
Tumblr media
Lucille Ball and Mary Wickes collaborated one last time on television in “Lucy Calls The President” a 1977 TV special that reunited Lucy with many of her favorite supporting cast members. Wickes once again plays Lucy’s aunt, Miss Millie Baker.  The special has the Whittaker family rolling out the red carpet because they believe that President Jimmy Carter and family are going to visit!
Tumblr media
Life after Lucy included appearing as a recurring character on “The Father Dowling Mysteries” from 1989 to 1991, as well as her film roles in Sister Act and Little Women.
Tumblr media
In 2013, Steve Taravella wrote a biography of Wickes titled Mary Wickes: I Know I’ve Seen That Face Before.
Mary Wickes died of complications following hip surgery on October 22, 1995, aged 85. She made a $2 million bequest in memory of her parents, establishing the Isabella and Frank Wickenhauser Memorial Library Fund for Television, Film and Theater Arts at the Washington University in St. Louis.
“I love playing good comedy with a heart, comedy which touches the audience.” ~ Mary Wickes
