Ok, Bunnies! Here are the before pictures. I’m so embarrassed to even post these. But it makes it real. The scale keeps creeping up but pictures really tell the whole story. I’ve gained almost all the weight back I lost in the spring. ~20#. I’m now back up to 180#. That’s in the obese range. The belly weight is new for me. It makes it very hard to buy clothes that fit. I plan to exercise every day and follow Keto. Let’s see what I can do in 30 days.

I cannot even tell you the last time my triglycerides were in range. In March 2018 they were 155 but since then they’d been fairly high again. I was suuuuper concerned about this test because I’m up 3.5 lbs. since the my last one in mid-September, but I guess this is further proof that the scale doesn’t tell the whole story.
(I also have a long summarial post in the works, about how Whole30 is going this time overall. I could have included this there but was too excited to wait to post about it.)

I forgot I told myself I was going to post my meals before I started eating... I’m starting the Whole30 over on September 1st for a nice round 30 days. Here’s my first meal at work! It’s instant pot chicken thighs cooked in salsa verde, a baked potato with ghee, salt, and pepper, and green beans with everything but the bagel seasoning and ghee, and not pictured kalamata olives!
Chances are working the shift I do I likely won’t get to eat 3 square meals which is part of the Whole30 so I’m just going to do the best I can and make sure every meal I do get is compliant.

My sister and I have decided to embark on a Whole30 adventure! These are just a few of the amazing meals I have made—this really isn’t so bad. Just finishing day 7 and so far I have learned that everything sold in the store (even frozen shredded potatoes) has hidden sugar, and that I don’t need cheese to enjoy my food!
We actually are only doing this for about 2 1/2 weeks because the family is going to DC for the last weekend in September. October 1st we’ll be starting Day 1 again. I’ve found some amazing recipes that I’m in love with so I’m really not finding this to be too difficult!

Weekly life planning. I’m up early for my walk. Day 10/100. Feels good to be on a roll. I went grocery shopping yesterday, mostly keto.
I’m really need a store bought cracker Or low carb carb cracker recipe. So many lunch ideas can include a spread for a cracker. I can use cucumbers BUT I’m not into peanut butter and cucumbers. Celery I suppose?
I have to move out of the apartment next week for the next renovation due to the flood. The floors are being replaced. So much work especially with cats. People with toddlers, I don’t know how you do it!! Bless you!

my skin hates me!! and like i know it’s my fault!! i need to drink more water and cut out sugar from my diet and exercise and all that jazz but i think it’s actually bc i went of birth control for like 8 months and now i’m reconsidering my decision but it’s basically like - do i want to get my period once a month or do i want to have nice skin and I HATE THAT I HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN THEM BC I DONT WANNA SPEND MONEY ON FEMININE HYGIENE PRODUCTS i should just get a moon cup or whatever
i swear once jacque gets back im gonna get this damn gym membership and then IT’S OVER FOR YOU HOES
so the next few months’ goals are as follows - 
july: work out 3x a week
august: no frozen meals! and only eat out during work days/when friends suggest eating out!
september: cut snacks/excess sugar/ice cream out of my diet...whole 30???? death????
october: read at least 5 chapters of my bible every day
november: WRITE 1667 WORDS A DAY AND FINISH A DAMN BOOK YOU LOSER

I was eager to feel a little bit like my old self again, to move my body independently of doing things for my baby, and dear God, to actually be alone and do whatever I wanted for 30 glorious minutes. And yes, I was eager to start working toward my pre-baby body again.

I always thought I would give myself more grace after having a baby, but it was much different psychologically for me at the time from what I imagined. I gave myself all the grace in the world when I had a baby in my belly, but once she was out, I felt like I no longer had an excuse to carry the extra weight (even though, duh, I totally did—I just had a baby and was breastfeeding to boot).
I didn’t anticipate the physical awkwardness of that postpartum in-between phase, when my pre-baby clothes were still a looong way from fitting, but my maternity clothes were pilled and stretched out and unflattering. I didn’t realize I’d have to buy a whole third wardrobe to accommodate that phase (many pieces of which I’m still wearing, by the way, since I don’t comfortably fit into my pre-baby jeans or some tops nearly 17 months later, but I’ve long since accepted that).
Back to that first trip to the gym. The common advice after an uncomplicated vaginal birth is to wait six weeks to do anything other than light walking, and then get cleared by your doctor to exercise again. I felt great by 17 days out, though, and had stopped bleeding (after giving birth, you basically have the longest, heaviest period of your life—woo-hoo), so I figured it was OK. I think I did a slow, gentle stint on the elliptical and lifted some weights. I felt great!
And then I started bleeding again. It was then I realized I had pushed my body too far, and decided to wait until my six-week checkup to exercise again—just like I should have in the first place.
I got the all-clear at that checkup on June 11, then went for my first postpartum run the very same day. I alternated one minute of running with one minute of walking for 30 minutes, with a 13:07 pace overall.

I felt great, but certain body parts definitely jiggled in a way they never had before. I must have either fed Evie or pumped right before I left, but my chest was still… a factor… in my running that I’d never experienced before. The larger sports bra I’d worn throughout my pregnancy was laughably way too small now that I was feeding a hungry baby, so I bought a Fiona bra at a local Brooks outlet store to keep everything nice and strapped in.

Side note: Now that I’ve experienced what it’s like to have a larger chest, I have major sympathy for ladies who have dealt with that their whole lives. It’s a real pain in the ass. I nursed for 13 months, so it’s been about four months since we stopped and I am thrilled to be back in my pre-baby bras.
I ran/walked a few times a week until the end of July, when Evie was 12 weeks old and I went back to work. I should also mention that Aaron and I did Whole30 during the month of July. I was inspired by Cely writing good things about it, and I really needed to do something to clean up my eating and gain some body confidence before going back to work.
I was particularly mortified by this photo taken in June, where I still looked quite pregnant.

I was less than two months postpartum, so of course I recognize now that looking like this is totally normal and perfectly fine. But I also wasn’t eating very well at the time, and knew I could do better and feel better in the process.
I did a lot of research before starting Whole30 about how to do it as a nursing mother, and about whether or not it would impact my milk supply. (Please do your own research and talk to your doctor about what’s right for you; don’t go by my decisions!) Typically snacking between meals is discouraged while doing Whole30, but nursing moms are free and encouraged to snack whenever they need to. 
I also read many accounts from moms who said that Whole30 either had no impact on their milk supply or actually increased it. Whole30 is all about eating real, unprocessed, nutrient-rich, calorie-dense foods, so it made sense to me that it would only improve the quality and/or quantity of milk. I obviously can’t be a judge of quality, but I can report that I experienced no negative impact to my supply. In fact, July was the month I really focused on pumping as much as I could to build up my stash of frozen milk before going back to work, and I was able to do that just fine.
By the end of the month, I had lost eight pounds, was sleeping better (when I was able to; I was still waking up several times a night) and had so much more energy in general. Whole30 was a great success, and I went back to work feeling awesome!

I had always been pretty sure I wanted to go back to work—I enjoyed my creative job and just never pictured myself as a stay-at-home mom—but I still cried leading up to my return. I knew it was the end of the first phase of Evie’s life, when her mom was around 24/7 to take care of her, and the time had gone by so quickly. It felt like I was losing something I’d never get back. I get teary-eyed even now thinking of those feelings.
But the first day I went back to the office, I knew I’d made the right decision. I still missed my baby like hell, and fumbled my way through pumping three times a day while trying to catch up on everything that had happened at work while I was gone, but it felt so good to be showered and dressed in real clothes and doing grown-up work with other grown-ups. 
I have so much respect for stay-at-home moms; it is truly one of the most difficult jobs in the world. It just wasn’t right for our family.
It helped me a lot emotionally that Aaron had a month of paternity leave left to use, so he stayed home with Evie through August before she started daycare. The transition to daycare was pretty rough as she adjusted to being cared for by complete strangers and being around other babies all day, but she was completely settled in after about a month and grew to love it. Even though she’s now in a toddler room, she still loves her teachers from the infant room and will leap into their arms for big hugs whenever she sees them. It’s so sweet.
Anyway, I’m getting off track! After I started back at work, making exercise a priority became a lot more challenging because all I wanted to do when I got home was snuggle my baby. More often than not, I chose to do just that—which was totally the right decision. Even though in those early days, when you’re barely sleeping, it feels like your baby will be a squishy, helpless, cuddly little thing forever, that stage goes by so fast. Everyone says it, and it’s annoying, but it’s true. I’m glad I savored every chance to have my little squishy baby take a sweet, open-mouthed nap on me.
Evie began sleeping through the night around six months old, after several grueling nights (weeks? who knows) of letting her cry for certain amounts of time and then comforting her until she learned to soothe herself back to sleep.
This. Was. A. Game-changer.
Evie now had a predictable bedtime and was (almost always) guaranteed to sleep for 12 hours, so I knew I had plenty of free time to work out once she was down. We had also just bought our house and moved to a different town, so I enjoyed going on short runs to explore the new area.
Still, I struggled with the transition to fall—colder temps, more rain, and nights that became dark earlier. Looking back on my GPS records, I didn’t run for the entire month of September… and also for another entire month between Thanksgiving and Christmas. (I decided to embrace the holiday season and just go all-out with eating and being lazy).
When 2017 rolled around, Aaron and I decided to do another round of Whole30 as a post-holiday reset. I lost another five pounds in January and effectively kicked my sugar cravings.
My friend Hallie invited me to join her team for a relay in April, so I had an actual goal to motivate me to run on a regular basis. The fact that I’d be part of a team of five women was a big motivator because I didn’t want to be the out-of-shape weak link.

How To Use All-Purpose Stir-Fry Sauce
My Whole30-friendly All-Purpose Stir-Fry Sauce helps frazzled home cooks get quick, easy, and umami-packed meals on the table! Not sure what dishes you can make with it? The possibilities are endless!
Whenever anyone asks me for my favorite recipe from our second cookbook, Ready or Not!, I always blurt out, “All-Purpose Stir-Fry Sauce!” This fab sauce takes just a couple of minutes to shake together in a mason jar—and once you have some in the fridge, you have no excuse not to make dinner!
If you’re doing a Whole30 or just committing to cooking more often, you can’t go wrong with this indispensable sauce. You really can use it to make everything!
After I published the recipe here, y’all seem to have fallen head over heels for my All-Purpose Stir-Fry Sauce. I love seeing all the creative ways my loyal Nomsters have found to utilize this awesomely versatile flavor booster! Still, over the past year, I’ve received some commonly-asked questions about All-Purpose Stir-Fry Sauce:
What if I’m allergic to orange juice?
No problem! My All-Purpose Stir-Fry Sauce can be made with pineapple juice if you can’t do orange juice. (Shh! Don’t tell anyone, but some of my readers actually prefer it with pineapple juice!)
How do I make this sauce with no fruit juice at all?
You can totally leave it out, but you’ll need to adjust the amount of rice vinegar to balance the flavors. Alternatively, you can sub out the rice vinegar for aged balsamic vinegar to add a bit of sweetness.
Is All-Purpose Stir-Fry Sauce Whole30-friendly?
Yes! Just remember to read your labels carefully for non-compliant ingredients, especially on the fish sauce and rice vinegar.
Do I REALLY have to add fish sauce?
Yes! Fish sauce adds an indescribable deliciousness (a.k.a. umami) to the sauce! (You’ve already listened to my podcast dedicated to umami, right?) Look—if you have a fish allergy, FINE—you can leave out the fish sauce and add more coconut aminos and some salt to compensate, but it won’t taste quite the same, I’m afraid. Alternatively, make this vegetarian fish sauce recipe and use it in place of the fish sauce in this recipe.
How do I thicken the sauce?
You can make an arrowroot slurry by whisking ½ cup All-Purpose Stir-Fry Sauce with 1 to 2 teaspoons of arrowroot powder. The sauce should thicken as soon as you bring it to a simmer. If you like a thicker sauce, add more arrowroot powder.
How long does All-Purpose Stir-Fry Sauce last in the fridge? Can I freeze it?
It’ll last in a tightly sealed container in the fridge for at least a week. And yes, you can definitely freeze the sauce for up to several months. I normally freeze the All-Purpose Stir-Fry Sauce in ice cube molds so I can pop out a cube when I need it.
(The commercially bottled sauce that you purchased at Whole Foods Market is good for at least 6 months in the fridge after it is opened due to the acidity!)
But…how should I use All-Purpose Stir-Fry Sauce?
There are SO! MANY! WAYS! Read on for some of my favorites…
Stir-fries!
My All-Purpose Stir-Fry Sauce is fantastic for stir-fries (duh!). If you follow me on Instagram, you know that stir-fries are one of my go-to weeknight meals ’cause they take no time at all to make. If you’ve never made a stir-fry before, our Ready or Not! cookbook includes a step-by-step recipe for Asparagus Beef, and it doubles as the perfect blueprint for do-it-yourself stir-frying. No cookbook? I recently revised my Spicy Asparagus and Pork Stir-Fry to include directions on how to make it with All-Purpose Stir-Fry Sauce. See? No excuses, people!
What’s fantastic about stir-fries is that you can modify the ingredients to use up whatever’s in the fridge. As long as you vary the veggies and protein, your family won’t even notice that you’re using the same sauce as a flavor base! Got more questions? I have my best stir-fry tips in this post.

Paleo Moo Shu Pork!
You can use it to make Paleo Moo Shu Pork, too!

But don’t feel like you’re stuck making only stir-fries with this sauce. You can also use it to make Paper-Wrapped Chicken!
Kalbi (Korean BBQ Short Ribs)!
These thinly-sliced, marinated Korean BBQ short ribs (also known as kalbi or galbi) will be the hit of your summer cookouts. Best of all, this tender and flavorful kalbi recipe is paleo, Whole30-friendly, and amazingly simple to throw together!
Dipping Sauce!
It also makes a great dipping sauce for homemade Paleo Potstickers!

Salad Dressing!
Want to use it in no-cook recipes? I love using All-Purpose Stir-Fry Sauce as a tangy and savory salad dressing as well. I often whisk All-Purpose Stir-Fry Sauce with some avocado oil (in a 4:1 ratio) to make a quick and easy salad dressing to toss with mixed greens.
But when I’m feeling a little more fancy, I like to use All-Purpose Stir-Fry Sauce to make Paleo Hiyashi Chuka (Cold “Ramen” Salad), Warm Asian Brussels Sprouts Slaw, and Smashed Cucumber and Carrot Salad!
All-Purpose Stir-Fry Sauce also makes a fab dressing for Chinese Chicken Salad! Paired with Cracklin’ Chicken, you can’t go wrong!
Craving a Whole30-friendly poke? Make my Tuna Poke With Avocado!
Instant Pot Stews!
It ain’t just for stir-fries and salads, though. If you’ve got some braising cuts in the fridge and want to pop ’em in the Instant Pot or slow cooker, a cup or so of All-Purpose Stir-Fry Sauce makes a fantastic Asian-inspired stewing liquid. Simply season the meat with salt or Magic Mushroom Powder, and add a cup of All-Purpose Stir-Fry to the cooker. Then, program your Instant Pot or slow cooker for the cut of meat you’re using, and presto-change-o: An incredible (and incredibly easy) dinner!

Hello!
I’m not new to Tumblr but I did decide I wanted to start a new one for my weight loss journey (Take two). Promise this will be my longest post but its just to inspire anyone who has been down the weight loss road, back up the weight gain road, and back down the weight loss road again.
Between October 2013 - March 2014 I managed to accomplish the first before & after you see in the gray shirt. I lost most of this weight unintentionally, I was a broke college student eating two meals a day (Eggo w/ peanut butter and a Subway Salad). I was busy as a full time commuter student with an internship and a pt job, and by the time I felt like I blinked I had lost about 30lbs, weighing at my lowest weight since 6th grade of 170lbs. At no point during that time had I exercised or regained a healthy relationship with food I was just too busy (and broke) to care about much other than making it through the school year. 
Fast forward to 2016, the year my world was flipped upside down. I had definitely gradually gained weight over the two years since losing 30lbs but after losing my grandma in February and then my Grandpa in April I didn’t think it could get worse until fall when my boyfriend was hit by a car and became an amputee. I hardcore turned to food during the last year and greeted 2017 at 215lbs.   
As my life has finally started “settling” down this year I decided at the end of May to do my first round of Whole30 (I jumped in no prep, nothing) and made it through successfully with no cheats. Doing that taught me so much about my body and how much sugar is in everythingggg. However, I am finally easing my way into a healthy balance which for me is eating as if I’m on Whole30  during the week and on the weekends I don’t “cheat” or have cheat meals but I will have some Halotop if I want dessert or a glass of wine to celebrate my new job.
Which brings me to here and now, the last pic in the yellow, I am down from 215 to 189lbs and am working to get to the 170s by my bday (September 8th).
