Probably spent about an hour on this; it's not much but the idea popped into my head so I just had to get it out! This is one of the first fics I'm posting so feedback is greatly appreciated. 😬👍🏻
Warnings: none? Pairing: Jim Kirk x reader Word count: about 1k
Half an hour. You were gone for all of thirty minutes.
You sauntered back to your post in the transporter room with a full stomach and fresh coffee in hand when you noticed someone else was in your chair. "Ensign Chekov? What are you-"
"Jim, for God sakes, get outta there!" Bones interrupted, making you notice his presence as he hovered over Ensign Murphy at the other console. You set your mug down and folded your arms.
"Start talking," you demanded, not caring that Bones outranked you. While he hesitated to answer, you checked the maps on the monitor. "What the hell are we doing on the edge of the neutral zone?!"
"Yeah, they're definitely boarding the ship." Captain Kirk's voice came through the coms and a knot formed in your stomach. "There's not enough time for me to do this!" A familiar Scottish accent followed the captain's.
"Who? Where-" you started to ask but the doctor had expected it.
"He's on that ship... with Scotty. Civilians are stranded. They were hoping to get the ship up and running again before Klingons found them but..." he tried to defend his best friend but even he knew the riskiness of the situation.
You took notice of the readings popping up on the radar and your eyes widened. "They're in full Klingon territory! Beam them back right now!"
You had no right to give orders to the CMO but you could however to an Ensign. Chekov immediately did his calculations, locking onto five that signatures not belonging to Klingons and was about to engage the transporter when the captain spoke again.
"Hold on, there's only four... maybe I can-" you spoke over the captain, ordering Chekov to beam them back and with Bones nodding to back you up he did as he was told.
As soon as the glittering light faded and Jim Kirk saw your (y/e/c) eyes staring him down from the center of the room he felt the need to apologize. Still, he was the captain and he knew that, and he was not about to give you the satisfaction.
"I don't recall giving the order to beam us back," he glanced down at Chekov.
"That's because I did." You crossed your arms in front of you, not moving aside as he stepped down off the transporter pad.
"You don't get to do that and I had them, (y/n)!"
"No! If word got out that a Starfleet Captian shot down even a single Klingon warrior in Klingon territory it would mean an all out war, James! And where the hell is Spock?"
He shrugged, "in the lab."
Realizing Spock was either not informed of the captain's impromptu mission or he was not given the full detail of the situation, you pinched the bridge of your nose and shook your head.
"Chekov, how are we looking?"
"We are in the clear, Captain."
"I wouldn't recommend we stick around though," Bones commented and Scotty seconded that with an, "aye."
"See?" Jim smirked at you and you hated him for it. "We're fine. Bones, show our new friends here to the medbay. I will be there shortly to discuss room and travel plans. Chekov, get back to the bridge and plot a course for the nearest star base." With that being said you watched the captian walk right passed you and out of the room. You weren't about to just let him walk away from this so you followed him down the corridor to where he stopped at the lift. You caught up to him just as it opened and he turned to face you, with that award winning smile on his face.
Without hesitation you shoved his shoulder and started waving your hands about. "Are you insane?!"
He laughed. "(Y/n), we're fine!" He tried to calm you down but you couldn't help it. You were heated and, although you refused to admit it out loud, you were scared to death finding out he was on another ship floating like dead weight in hostile, enemy territory. You took a deep breath and let it out. He smiled again, placing a hand on your shoulder, giving it a squeeze. Just when he thought you were done freaking out you smacked his hand away.
"What the hell were you thinking?! You could have been killed!"
"Ok, first off, ow." He paused to look you up and down, a smirk on his lips. "Second, you were scared for me?"
"I," you paused for a moment, not knowing how to continue. "That's not the point, Jim!"
He shrugged. "I don't really think before I act, remember?" He was basically quoting every Starfleet admiral who's ever had the pleasure of knowing him so far. "It's part of my charm really," he added his own opinion this time, making you roll your eyes at him. "They needed help, (y/n)! What was I supposed to do? Leave them stranded? We had to act fast!"
You realize he had a point despite him being reckless. "Ugh," you shook your head.
The lift door was still open, waiting for someone to walk in. You didn't hesitate for a split second. You pressed both your palms against the captain's chest, forcing him backwards through the doorway. As soon as the lift closed his back was against the wall and your lips were on his. Your hand found the emergency stop and hit it before returning to its place on his chest. He placed his hands around your waist, pulling you in closer to him. You tilted your head to the side, deepening the kiss. It only lasted about thirty seconds but it left you both short of breath once you pulled away. You glanced up at him, catching sight of his crystal blue eyes looking down at you and you almost melted on the spot. Your eyes closed slightly, noses touched and your lips brushed against his when you spoke. "I have to get back to my post, but... do that again and I'll kill you myself." Before he even had a chance to respond you already released the emergency stop and opened the door. You turned on your heel and stalked off down the corridor leaving him lost for words. The door shut again and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't wipe the smirk off his face for the next hour.

*Prompt:* "Hello!
Can you write an imagine story, where Jim Kirk fell in love with Pyke’s daughter, plase?🙈"
*Warnings:* Possible out of character Kirk?? And it turned out way longer than I planned. Also, it's probably really bad. I'm exhausted.
Being the child of one of Starfleet's Captains, Christopher Pike, had its advantages, he told you all of his adventures. When you were a child, you loved hearing them. As you got older, you weren't as interested in them. Mostly due to hearing so much when you were younger. And, almost guaranteed admission to Starfleet.
When you got old enough, you decided that you'd join Starfleet as a nurse, you got along well with other people and the blood and gory things didnt bother you. Your father was more than happy when he heard of your decision; your mother, not so much, but she came around shortly after.
After you graduated, you were assigned to your father's old ship, Enterprise. You were excited, to say the least; but, you were also nervous. While you were in academy, people treated you differently. You knew it was because of your father. And you were hoping that on Enterprise, that it wouldn't be like it was then.
As soon as you stepped foot on the Enterprise, you were met with her new captain, James Tiberius Kirk; a deviously handsome man, with blue eyes to kill. You had heard so many stories on the captain, how he was a playboy and never really cared about anyone but himself. He smiled real big when he saw you, "Ah, nurse Y/N Pike. It's wonderful to meet you. I am Captain Kirk. And this is our chief medical officer, Leonard McCoy; but, I call him Bones." He says, as he places a hand on a man in a blue uniform.
"Don't expect any special attention, just 'cause of who your father is." This Leonard McCoy says, rather crossly.
You nod and respond, "Wouldn't dream of it, sir. I'm rather sick of it. Got it all the time when I was in the academy."
"I like 'er already." Doctor McCoy, laughs looking at the captain.
As he walks away, Captian Kirk looks at you, "That's a first." He laughs, rather loudly and places a hand on the small of your back making you jump. "I hop you enjoy your time on the Enterprise. I'll personally show you to your quarters." You nod, as the both of you walk to your quarters. On the way, he asks about you and why you joined Starfleet. You answer all of his questions and in no time you're at your quarters. "This is you," he says as he gestures the door. "Coincidentally, my quarters are at the end of the hall."
You nod, "Thank you, Captain. I think I'll go get settled in." He nods as you walk in. You wave to him and he waves back. As the door closes, you learn against a wall and groan. "He's the captain, a crush is totally out of the question." You sigh, as you get a video call. It's your father. "Daddy!" You say, happily.
"Hey, sweetheart! I just want to see how you like your quarters." He says, smiling.
"I just got here, actually. I haven't got a chance to look around." You say, now looking around. It was rather big; a nice bathroom, a normal size sitting area, and a rather big bed area. "It's nice."
"Good. Let me know if you need anything." You both then say your goodbyes and get off.
You sit on your new bed, it's really soft, like the one you had on Earth.
*Time Skip: a couple months*
A couple months have passed since you arrived, well were beamed on, the Enterprise. Life is pretty well normal; everyone treats you like a friend, not Christopher Pike's child. You are extremely grateful for that. You hang out a lot with Nyota, Pavel, Scotty, Keenser, Hikaru, Bones, Spock, and of course, Jim. Nyota has become your best friend.
"You know he has a crush on you, right?" Nyota says, randomly one day you both are having lunch.
"Jim? No, he totally doesn't." You respond, eating whatever was on your tray.
"I've known Jim for a while, he does have some type of feelings for you." She raises an eyebrow when Jim sits beside you, in toe is Bones and Spock. You smile when Spock kisses Nyota.
"Hello, boys." You say, looking down.
A chorus of "hellos" reach your ears. Most prominent, is Jim's. You look at him and he smiles at you. "And how are my favorite girls today?" He asks, cheekily.
Nyota kicks your leg softly. You frown, "We are perfect. And you? Boys?" Ny responds smiling.
"We're great. Another great day in Space!" Jim answers, still looking at you.
"Yeah, great." Bones scoffs, rolling his eyes.
Jim, while still looking at you, places a hand on your knee, making you jump. "Alright, I'm going to go...." you trail off before finishing your sentence, "uhm, somewhere." You stand up and practically run away. You wonder around for a while, walking nowhere in particular. Somehow you end up, on the observation deck. Sitting on the floor, you look at the stars as the Enterprise soars through space. Alone in your thoughts, you don't hear somone walks up and sits beside.
"I love the stars." Whoever it is says, making you jump again. You look over and see Jim. "According to my mom, my father loved being out here. It's not hard to see why. The stars are my favorite part of my job."
You turn to him and hang on his every word. "I've been wandering around for over two hours. Somehow I ended up here." You reply, "It's still hard to think I'm in space. I heard so many stories from my dad."
Jim turns his body to you, "My mom told me quite a few. I heard the one about when my dad died so many times, especially in the academy. I always feel like I'm trying to live up to a story; or a.." he trails off trying to find the right words.
You nod, understand, "I know exactly what you mean. I mean, dad had such high standards for me growing up. My mom, she was a little more relaxed when he was off up here."
You both continue talking for what seems like hours. Talking about everything, your childhood, his, and what you both want for your future. Surprisingly, you both want the same things. You continue talking, until you start yawning, "Tired?" He asks, brushing a stray piece of hair out of your eyes.
"A little. I have a long day ahead of me. I need to get to bed before Bones kills me." You laugh, as Jim stands up and helps you up as well. "Walk me to my quaters?"
"Of course." He says, holding his elbow out for you to take, as you're a little wobbly. You both continue to talk as he walks you back.
As you get to your door, "Well, this is me." You say, frowning. You notice Jim frowns as well. "Thank you, Jim. I really appreciate it, I would've gotten lost coming back."
He chuckles and replies, "You're welcome. Can I be honest?" You nod, "When you first came on this ship, I thought you were attractive." He sighs and looks you right in your eyes, "But, today, just now, when you were alone on the observation deck, I... I.. I realized that I'm in love with you."
You gasp, "Jim, I don't know what say. But, I think I'm in love with you, too." He smiles and kisses you. You'll need to remember to thank Nyota, later.
A/N: This probably isn"t my best work. I'm so tired, I'll look it over in the morning. -Shawnee

Bad Plan
CHAPTER 1: part 2
5am came way to soon. I sat in the make up chair, feeling like a zombie. The lady putting my make up on was a chatty lady, who to honest should lay off the caffeine pills.
“You know what I mean though?" She asked.
“Yep." It was all I could muster out, not even sure what I was agreeing to. Who cares though, I sipping on my Starbucks like it was life saving miracle drink that it was.
“Morning Renee." I heard that amazing accent come from somewhere behind me.
“Morning Karl." I sounded half dead.
“Someone not a morning person?" He asked sitting in the chair next to me.
“Not one bit." I took another sip of my coffee. "And if Satan were to find out I cheated again and grabbed coffee he would probably attempt my death for the hundredth time."
“Your secret is safe with me." He joked. "So, you remember your lines?"
“I have to talk? I thought I was just supposed to show up."
“Well, that is part of it."
“I think so, I'm still trying to figure out how I drove here to be honest."
“I think we all are." The morning went by in a blur with me trying say the phrase 'Kirk, red alert, we are on stand by. Commander, next order.' Which for some reason my brain kept going red Kirk alert. Yeah, after a dozen or so tries they decided a break was in order.
I went back to my trailer, being ticked off with myself.
“For some reason I can't even say the simplest phrase. 'Kirk, red alert.' With out stumbling over the words or saying them backwards. Oh btw, Benedict is in this movie." I sent my sister a quick text, a knock at the door snapped me back to reality.
“Come in."
“You okay?" Karl had followed me.
“Yeah, just irritated with myself. It's the stupidest thing to get tripped up over." I flopped back in the chair next to me.
“Hey, I get that." He stated leaning against the counter across from me. "It's nothing to get mad about."
“Sure you say that, but you've been at this a while. And your first movie wasn't a major motion picture, not that this is what I was going for but I still don't want to suck at this." I stood up and walked to the fridge, I grabbed an energy drink out.
“Your very correct, everyone gets tripped though. You'll be fine, your doing fine now." He reassured me, a knock on the door grabbed our attention.
“Come in, your just being nice." I replied, Chris came in.
“What if you just say Captian, red alert." He asked.
“I can't just say what I want."
“Why not?" Chris asked, leaning his hip against the door way. "We all do it every now and then.
“That's you, not me." I thought about how arrogant that sounded. "You're a seasoned actor, I'm a nobody."
“So, I'm sure simon's not going to care if you switch Kirk to captain." Chris responded, eyeing my energy drink, I motioned to my fridge. He excitedly rummaged to find himself one.
“Well, I just texted him." Karl announced, finally looking up from his phone. "Chris, your trainer is going to kill you for that."
“Well worth it." He stated after a long drink, ear to ear grin played across his face. Karl gave me a look as I drank from mine.
“Hey, I disobey mine everyday. So satan should just get used it." I shrugged as Simon walked in. The little trailer was getting crowded quite rapidly.
“Hey girly, I've heard you've been having problems with one of the lines." He looked tired, "if it's to much trouble go ahead and switch the wording."
“I'll be fine," I was getting annoyed with this, damn it I was going to say the line if killed me now. "I just needed to let my brain wake up."
A buzzing sound let us know that break time was over. We all got back on set and found our places. True to my word, I just needed to let my brain wake up and I finished the scene without anymore hiccups.
Filming went well, my sister responded to my text telling me how jealous she was that I was working with Benedict. The fact he was reprising his role as Kahn was weird, but it was more for a flashback then a major role this time.
After I was done filming for the day I had to go spend a couple hours going through hand to hand training. Not going to lie, it's pretty bad ass that they were training me instead of subbing me out with someone else.
“So, we are going to partner you up with who your going to fight in this scene." He told me as we stretched. So the whole thing went down that I was being forced by an enemy race to fight my own crew. Brain washed into helping the alien race, which was commanded by Tom, Loki anyone?
“Who am I sparring with?" I asked looking around, over stretching my arms. Being double jointed had its perks, for one dislocation doesn't happen often.
“Mr. Urban." He was very formal, for the first month he referred to me as Miss Winter. I had to win a bet to get him to stop. "But let's go while we wait."
We spent the next two hours sparring, throwing and blocking. Yes, it was all preplanned, but he wanted it to look real. Which meant I still ended up taking a hit or two on accident. Karl showed up just as the trainer was leaving.
“Sorry, I got caught up." He apologized sincerely.
“It's alright, man. I just have to go, I have a prior engagement. The two of can hang around and practice though." And out the door he ran. Suddenly I felt very awkward. Shorts and sports bra, I had given up on shoes a month ago. I couldn't move around in them and make it look fluid.
“Hey kid," he dropped his gym bag on the floor, I wiped the sweat from my forehead with the back of my hand. Kid? Really, he's only ten years older then me. "Ready?"
“Sure, but shouldn't you, I don't know, stretch first? I mean getting up there in your age a could fall mess up your hip." I quipped back. A coy smile played across his face. Oh yes, I just went there. "You started it."
“Your right I did." He suddenly sprang forward with a striking kick, I side stepped last minute as he caught me off guard. "Let's see if you have the endurance to keep up."
We both had been practicing the same set a moves for a long time. This was the first time we had done them together. I found myself tripping over my feet and forgetting what came next. Karl could see my frustration, especially after being kicked in the same leg for the third time because I kept forgetting to roll out of the way.
“Why am I sucking at this? I just went through all of this with Mike and didn't mess up once!" I sat on my ass, head in my hands. He just shook his head at me.
“It's like a dance, you are used to Mike’s moves. Even if it's the same steps over and over again." He reached down and pulled me to my feet. "Your not used to how I move, your body it's trying to figure it out and the brain is trying to keep up."
He went throw each punch, and kick toward me at a slower speed. Allowing me time to dodge and strike back.
“He became routine, comfortable." He stated as he grabbed my hand and pulled my feet with his. "Fighting is just as intimate as dancing, bodies respond differently to differently people." This is where his character was to render mine unconscious. "Shall we try it again?"
“Uh, sure?" Super hot guy, extremely sexy voice and body to body contact and your asking me if I want to go at this again?
*****
I walked into my house hours later, sore and tired. The last thing I wanted to do was walk up the stairs to my room. My sister and I live in a five bedroom Victorian home, so the stairs are narrow and steep. I wandered into the kitchen and made some hot peppermint tea.
“How was filming?" Her voice bubbled over, I jumped as she startled me.
“Ow!" I groaned. I motioned her to follow as I made way upstairs to the large bathroom.
“So?" She asked as she handed me the Epsom salts.
“Long, so very long. And painful." I responded drawing a hot bath. "I never realized how much energy it took not just to remember lines, but to be someone other then myself." She followed me to my room as I gathered my stuff.
“Why do you hurt then?" She grabbed my bathrobe I had dropped.
“There's a fight scene, I needed to go over it one more time before we film. Though I get a gut feeling I'll be doing that first thing in the morning."
“Ok, well, tell me more when your done." She backed out as I disrobed and lowered myself in. Steam curled around me and the heat penetrated my sore muscles. My phone went off on the edge of the tub.
‘How ya feelin', kid? That last throw, it looked like you took it wrong' it was from Karl. I sipped my tea and leaned my head back.
‘Feel great, like I could do that a million times.' I responded, letting the water work it's wonders. 'However on an unrelated note do you know any amazing chiropractors?'
‘I was about ask if you serious, cause you didn't move for a while after that.'
‘Yeah, that one sucked. Tomorrow is going to be painful.' It kinda felt odd to be texting Karl just cause of who he was but at the same time it felt really normal.
‘Just take a hot bath with some Epsom salts and take some Motrin. It will still hurt tomorrow but hopefully not as bad.' I laughed to myself.
‘Already doing that dr but thanks for the advise.'
‘Ha ha! Nice joke. I feel horrible, btw'
‘Why? Not your fault I twisted wrong.'
‘Still, I feel bad. Can I please get you a coffee tomorrow morning?' I couldn't help but smile.
‘Sure, sounds good.' My sister knocked on the bathroom door.
“You need anything?" She asked.
“Some Motrin."
******
I woke the next morning feel stiff, it hurt to move but I had a job to do and I needed to get going. I stopped by the kitchen and took Motrin and put a heat pack on my back before I left the house.
I stopped by make up and wardrobe before I found a nice place out of the way to stretch out my sore muscles before I did anything else. It felt amazing and painful at the same time as I was stretching.
“Morning kid." Ah my coffee was here. I threw a look over my shoulder, Karl was carrying two cups of coffee.
“Morning Urban." I walked over, taking my coffee as he handed it to me.
“How you feeling?" Concern washed over his face.
“Stiff, alittle bit of pain." I took a long sip, rejoicing in the caffeine.
“You took something for it, right?"
“Nah, I though I'd wellow in the pain. Of course I took something, Dr." Might as well call it like I see it.
“Well in that case, I'm going to have argue with you on working today." His natural accent disappeared, replaced with one that had a slight southern drawl to it. He had instantly snapped into McCoy without notice.
“Okay, the whole dropping your accent thing freaks me out." I responded going back to stretching.
“And why is that? You've already admitted you didn't even realize it was me when you first met me because I have an accent."
“Because, sir, I have gotten used to you talking normally when your not acting and it sounds odd now." I leaned to the side and then down. My back seized for a mintue, and I lurched.
“Hey now, take it easy." He was right behind me, hands on my waist. "Don't injure yourself further before we even start today."
“I'm fine, really." I stated, trying to get the fact he was touching me out of my head.
“You know you keep using that word, I don't think you know what it means." He whispered into my ear, Tom and Zachary had walked up and Karl had let go of my waist. Leaving me slightly confused.
“Morning boys." I announced, grabbing my foot and bringing it my hip from behind me.
“Good morning, Renee." Tom replied, Zachary just nodded and took a long drink from his coffee mug, looks like I wasn't the only one who didn't care much for mornings.

ST: The Next Generation S3 Watchthrough Episodes 18-21
Allegiance: So we have Picard whisked away while minding his own business and ends up somewhere with three other people while a copy of him is hanging out on the Enterprise. Don’t you just hate when that happens? It was alright. The concept is an interesting one, a race of hive0mind aliens kidnap people to see how they interact in a bubble while they leave a fake on the Enterprise to see if the crew will keep following Picard. Naturally the crew turns on the fake when he gets out of hand and Riker taking a stand was freakin’ badass, so glad that no one’s a mindless officer who will follow blindly. While the aliens don’t hurt anyone, they DID still kidnap and endanger a lot of people, so Picard telling them offat the end is justified. The whole episode hinges on Patrick Stewart’s acting ability as both the real and fake Picard, and to the shock of no one, he knocks it out of the park. They could make him act as a tree and he’d somehow make it into a worthwhile performance. Picard’s certainly not my favorite character, while S3 has had him grow on me the rest of the cast are more appealing to me and as far as overall captians go, TOS Kirk just had a better balance of serious and laid-back for me… he’s topping AOS Kirk though. Also… I know it was witht he fake Picard, but why are we starting the Picard/Crusher ship tease again? They had dropped it since Crusher came back and Picard seems even more married to his job than Kirk was, so… why are we doing this? But ah well. Still, it’s a strong episode for Picard as he shows his natural leadership and Patrick Stewart is having fun as the fake especially when we get to the song number XD It’s a nice episode about authority and when to follow (regular Picard is a reasonable leader who knows how to deal with various individuals to get the job done with the least amount of damage possible) and when to not (when the authority is outright leading you and others to certain death with no regard for those lives). In other words, don’t live in a hive mind. and don’t imprison people no matter if you intend no harm 3/5.
Captain’s Holiday: And speaking of Picard! I guess a requirement for Starfleet Captian is ‘be an utter workaholic who cannot and will not understand the concept of taking a Shore Leave’ and that hasn’t changed since Kirk’s time. Hell, Crusher pulls the same trick Spock did to get Kirk to take one… albeit Picard picks up on it much quicker than Kirk did and he doens’t end up on a planet that causes illusions that involve an annoying classmate, an old crush, and believing that his CMO/best friend got killed via a knight lance… boy Shore Leave was a trip, huh? I love how the entire ship was in on the scheme to get Picard to take the vacation, Riker’s smugness over it is freakin’ amazing. So Picard goes to Risa… and ends up tangled in utter insanity involving a weapon hidden on the planet, the Ferengi, two beings from the future, and a pretty woman adventurer. Guess the other Starfleet Captin requirement is ‘be prepared for your vacation to be derailed even when it doens’t involve Starfleet business because you’re just cursed now, sorry!’ This was fun! I like seeing Picard get to break from his stuffy Captain persona and get to go full-on adventurer and clearly having the time of his life doing so, it fits him really well~! Vash was also really fun and why we haven’t gotten an ST spinoff that would essentially be Indiana Jones in Space after this I’ll never know. It’s kinda nice to just have an episode like this with no complex morality or political/social themes, it’s just a fun adventure to let Picard let loose and the setting is a nice change of pace from the Enterprise. 3/5.
Tin Man: Tam’s inability to stop hearing most everyone’s thoughts which leaves him unhinged gives me major Mao from Code Geass vibes… well, except less sociopathic/stalkerish. I mean imagine being born a telepath/empath with all those senses turned on and being unable to shut them off and thus are overwhelmed by everyone’s thoughts/emotions all around you… yeah I think that the man has every reason to be out of it. I almost wanna say this kinda feels like an allegory for mental illness/schizophrenia, but given that this was in the 90’s when we weren’t that great at understanding that and my own lack of knowledge on those topics, I’m reluctant to say that with certainty. So we have him an an intelligent ship (the tititular Tin Man) drven to despair due to it’s fallen crew and in the end they essentially merge into one being… yeah it’s as wild as it sounds. Oh and they have to deal with Romulans… again. Also not quite sure what happened at the end, but hey it’s an ending. So it was fine. Not really anything else to say on this one. 3/5.
Hollow Pursuits: So we meet Lieutenant Barclay, a nervous, timid man who is constantly late, frustrates his superiors due to his demeanor/insufficiency, isn’t really fitting in, and he vents it out via living out his fantasies on the Holodeck. It’s… oddly relatable. Now mind you I’d probably be as squicked out as Troi was if someone had a hologram of me acting all intimate with them, but hey it’s not like he’s forcing it on the actual Troi. Riker comes off as an asshole though… though him, Troi, and Geordi seeing themselves in the holodeck was funny XD. It’s understandable why Geordi and the others are frustrated with him.. but like Data points out, name-calling behind his back is pretty mean and maybe if they tried to be more understanding and reached out, maybe it would help Barclay. As someone with major social anxiety and poor social skills in general, I could relate to how Barclay felt and it was nice to see an episode focusing on what would otherwise be a nameless nobody in the background. There are more people on the ship than the main group, several of whom they’re the superiors over, so it’s nice to also see Geordi struggling as a superior to a subordinate that he’s having issues with. When Guinan pointed out that maybe Barclay’s late and nervous because everyone acts like they don’t want to be around him or talk to him… damn, that articulates exactly what I felt. Also, you’d think that the Holodeck would… you know, make it so one can’t walk in on someone’s privacy unless it’s an emergency. Just saying. But yeah for an episode in the ’90s, while it doens’t specifically bring up social anxiety or mental illness that one could associate with Barclay and the Holodeck sequences might be more… concerning in a modern light, it does have the message on treating those feeling withdrawn, nervous, and struggling with those kinds of things respectfully and to reach out to them with understanding and openness, not to dismiss or demean them. It’s a lesson I wish that was more clear in the ’90s, it might have helped me with my problems… ah well! 3.5/5.
Alright, we’ve got five episodes of the season left. So here’s how we’re going to go from here. Tomorrow will be 22-25, which I read the title for one and it’s gotten me super excited~! Then we have the finale… which is one part of a two-parter with Part 2 being the beginning of S4. I’ve been thinking of how to deal with this in the watchthrough since I consider parter episodes essentialy the same episode but divided up. What I decided is that on the wtchthrough post I’ll review both parts in one post, give the rating for both as seperate episodes, and then give a rating for them together. When I do the Top 5 Favorite/Least Favorite Episodes of S3 post, it will be counted as one episode if it makes the list and this will be the same for all the other two-part episodes at least for now. After I do the S3 finale/S4 premiere I’m gonna take a break until Monday, and then I hope to go through S4-7 without any stops. So here’s hoping that all goes according to plan.

Five ships I’m still not over
Beleg Cúthalion/Túrin Turambar
Universe: Middle-earth, first age
Ship name: Nothing that’s widely used in the fandom, I don’t think. But I like to think of them as ‘Black Sword (referring to Turin’s cursed weapon) and Strongbow (direct translation of Cúthalion)’
To me, there's no character more tragic than Turin son of Hurin, and no pairing more tragic than him and Beleg. And no clearer love, too. I don't know if J. R. R. Tolkien intended for them to go that far, but their emotional connection is so deep and powerful that whether you ship them or not it's undisputedly one of the most beautiful relationships in Tolkien's lore. Alas! It's not powerful enough to undo the curse placed on Turin and his clan, which ends both his and Beleg's life all too soon and all too tragically. So, yes, I count Beleg as one of the elves who die for love.
Favourite quote: 'I would lead my own men, and make war in my own way,' Turin answered. 'But in this at least my heart is changed: I repent every stroke save those dealt against the Enemy of Men and Elves. And above all else I would have you beside me. Stay with me!' 'If I stayed beside you, love would lead me not wisdom,' said Beleg.
Uh, I love this so much because it shows the difference in their temperament and maturity. Beleg's an elf who has lived through and fought in so many wars. He's an (elf)man of duty, honour and intellect, and Turin is still a young man whose pride and stubbornness can seriously get in the way of a grown-up conversation. And Beleg is so not having any of that in this scene. He’d do anything for Turin, including ditching his command to find him, but he can pull some tough-love moves, too, when Turin’s unreasonable.
Uzumaki Naruto/Uchiha Sasuke
Universe: Naruto
Ship name: sns, narusasu, sasunaru
I think Naruto and Sasuke canonically love each other, I really do, but I don’t think they are together romantically at any point in the series. And that’s by design, really. Sasuke -- the last of the Uchiha, the tragic figure of the Naruto series (still not as tragic as Turin, but let’s not do this morbid comparison) -- has too many issues to work through, and Naruto isn’t in the position to really help him through them. So as soul-deep as their bond is, they couldn’t have been together and survive each other. Although, I really want that to happen. That’s what fanfictions are for, I guess.
Favourite quote: ‘If you attack Konoha, I will have to fight you... So save up your hatred and take it all on me, I'm the only one who can take it. It's the only thing I can do. I will shoulder your hatred and die with you.’
Honestly, Naruto might just as well propose to Sasuke with that because he’s essentially saying ‘give me your worst, I’m not leaving and never will’. I know friends could be like that, too, but normally not to this degree and not with this kind of commitment. I’m not surprised at all when Sasuke has to ask Naruto why the hell he is doing all this for him. It just goes beyond reason, really.
S'chn T'gai Spock /James T. Kirk
Universe: Star Trek
Ship name: K/S, Spirk
The Daddy of all ships! Pun intended! Spock and Kirk's friendship really walks that fine line of are they/aren’t they. I personally think they aren’t (another controversial statement coming from a shipper), but they’re so cute together you just can’t help think: what if they are? They have this deep trust and affection for one another anyway; why not push it a notch further? ‘This simple feeling,’ as Spock calls it, might as well be love.
Favourite quote:
Kirk: How's our ship? Spock: Out of danger. Kirk: Good... Spock: You saved the crew. Kirk: You used what he wanted against him. That's a nice move. Spock: It is what you would have done. Kirk: And this... this is what you would have done. It was only logical. I'm scared, Spock. Help me not be. How do you choose not to feel? Spock: I do not know. [tears fall] Right now, I am failing. Kirk: I want you to know why I couldn't let you die... why I went back for you... Spock: Because you are my friend. [Kirk places his hand against the glass and gives the Vulcan Salute as he dies]
It’s actually really hard for me to pick a quote for these two because I think every ‘Jim’ from Spock does the job except nobody else would understand it but me. (Second to that is, ‘Captian, not in front of the Klingons.’) While I love them teasing each other a lot, I think Kirk’s death scene from Star Trek Into Darkness has all the right punches to it. Spock has been unable to accept the feeling of friendship towards Kirk (actually just feelings in general) until the moment he watches Kirk dies behind the glass door. And all just comes out like BOOM! Not to mention how close Spock comes to killing Khan for revenge before Uhura tells him that Kirk can be saved but they need Khan alive. Honestly, that’s the only reason Khan’s head doesn’t go plop in Spock’s hands.
Morgoth/Sauron
Universe: Middle-earth, first age
Ship name: it just came to my attention that the fandom is calling this ship Angbang (a wordplay on the name of their home/fortress Angband). Nicely done, you naughty people. Also Melkor/Mairon if you’re going by their proper first-age names.
I think a lot of people seeing this ship would go ‘what?!’ Like, how is that even possible when Tolkien didn’t write a single scene with the two of them in it. I’d say in this case the absence is more powerful. Tolkien wrote the Silmarillion and the Unfinished Tales as lore, so they necessarily come from the perspective of the tellers; i.e., humans and elves. That doesn’t mean Tolkien didn’t drop hints about the complex characters that the dark lords of Middle-earth are. He even has Elrond says that people don’t start out evil, not even Sauron. So the question becomes, what the heck happened? And the heck that starts it all out is pretty much in the first few chapters of the Silmarillion where Morgoth is clearly a powerful and inventive figure but in many ways an outcast and shunned by everyone including the very power that made him. (*cough* daddy issue *cough*) And then we are made aware of the fact Sauron, who is also powerful and creative, isn’t on Morgoth’s side from the get go but decides to join him later. The power-hungry dark lords we are later told about aren’t that at all, so it raises the question of their true characters and motives. If anything, I think the length in which Sauron would go for Morgoth thousands of years after his master is defeated and shut away says something about their bond with each other. And if I know one thing, it can’t be fear or respect. If I have to make a guess, I think it is akin to love.
Favourite quote: There isn’t anything I can quote from the source material since there hasn’t been a dialogue or anything they say to an audience that could be trusted as genuinely representing who they are. One thing I do scream about is the scene in the Return of the King movie when the black gate opened and behind there isn’t just the tower with the eye of Sauron but Mount Doom next to it in the same frame. I was like ‘I know Morgoth’s not here but isn’t that him in spirit.’ Yes, I’m a proper trash for these two.
Also, there’s this awesome comic series (unfortunately discontinued) by Suz. It’s legitimately hotter than the fire of Aule’s forge, honestly.
Beren/Lúthien
Universe: Middle-earth, first age
Ship name: I’m not aware of any ship name for these two but ‘Beren and Luthien’ is catchy enough as it is.
How else to finish this list but to dedicate the last entry to the greatest love story of Middle-earth, and, yes, I'm saying that with a straight face because, holy hell, this couple defies expectations left, right, and centre. Luthien, our elven princess, is an active participant in her own fate. She falls in love with a human who, in an act of valour, accepts her father's stupid, impossible task to steal the most treasured jewel from Morgoth the Dark Lord himself. Luthien basically runs away from home, finds her man captured and tortured, and tears the goddamn fortress down in a showdown with the-dark-lord-to-be Sauron himself (which makes you question the competency of everyone else in Middle-earth). They then proceed to steal the jewel together. They don't quite succeed in bringing it back and Beren loses his hand in the process, but hey, they could say it's in his hand, somewhere, and now could they please marry because otherwise I have a feeling that Luthien is going to elope with her boyfriend and her mom and dad won't be seeing her again ever.
And this is really just scratching the surface of Luthien’s feisty personality quite unbefitting of most princesses until the recent overhaul of attitude by Disney. And all this came from a man who was born in the Victorian era when women's autonomy wasn't given or respected. But I think Luthien's depth of character comes from the fact that she has a real-life counterpart, and so she feels more like a real woman. And the love between Beren and Luthien feels compelling because its the love the professor himself had for his wife and life-long partner, Edith. You can check out their gravestone. I'm so not making this up.
Favourite quote: The song of Lúthien before Mandos was the song most fair that ever in words was woven, and the song most sorrowful that ever the world shall ever hear. Unchanged, imperishable, it is sung still in Valinor beyond the hearing of the world, and the listening the Valar grieved. For Lúthien wove two themes of words, of the sorrow of the Eldar and the grief of Men, of the Two Kindreds that were made by Ilúvatar to dwell in Arda, the Kingdom of Earth amid the innumerable stars. And as she knelt before him her tears fell upon his feet like rain upon stones; and Mandos was moved to pity, who never before was so moved, nor has been since.
It’s not a scene between them, but this is how far Luthien’s love and badassery goes. She loses Beren in a battle to protect her father’s kingdom, and she dies grieving him. In the afterlife, she gets to meet the god of death Mandos and sings him a song of their love and her grief. Apparently, she’s so good with words and music that Mandos is like, ‘I can’t handle the feels. You can have your husband back and have a mortal life with him.’ And Luthien takes the deal, of course.

The One, Part 7
Tumblr media
Jim Kirk x Reader
Warnings: angst.
Summary: It had been years since you had last since Jimmy. The two of you were highschool sweethearts, until you parted ways. After a horrible breakup with your two timing ex-fiance, you transfer to the U.S.S Enterprise. Finally coming face to face with the boy you left behind. Can the two of you work alongside each other in peace? Or will the past come back to haunt you?
Masterlist
“I hope you’re happy, I told him,” you stood in front of Leonard, eyes red and puffy. He sighed in relief, but brought a hand to your shoulder.
“Don’t be mad at me, he had to be told.”
“I know,” you smiled weakly at your friend. “I’m just projecting the guilt and anger I feel onto you.”
“Oh, so you’re taking it well I see,” Leonard smirked and motioned for you to follow him into his office. The door closed behind you and the doctor walked over to his desk, “I think it’s time for a little afternoon delight.”
“That’ what got me pregnant in the first place.” The sarcasm rolled off your tongue and the man just snorted.
“Oh, you’re just one fluffy ball of delight. Come on, a little whiskey will ease the guilt.”
The two of you sat at his desk, you took a extra large sip of the whiskey and rejoiced in the smoothness that ran down your throat. After a few minutes in comfortable silence, Leonard asked how Jim took it.
“Superb! He was just so elated!”
“Come off it,” Leonard scolded.
“How do you think he took it? He looked so devastated, but we never got beyond the “Jim, I was pregnant ” part. He was called to the Bridge.”
Leonard leaned back into his desk chair and gave you a soft smile. “You two just need to talk it over. Explain what happened, Jim’s a reasonable man.”
You raised an eyebrow at the doctor’s sweet notion and he rolled his eyes. “Well, he can be reasonable.”
“Leonard, he loved him once and I kept the fact that he had a son hidden for years. He’s not going to forgive me and he shouldn’t. I hope he hates me,” you looked down at your drink and brought it to your lips. “I should transfer back to the USS Inquisitor. Or better yet, leave the Fleet altogether. Go home for a while, I miss my folks. Maybe finish my art schooling, it’s never too late.”
Leonard sat up and frowned at you. “You’re the best head nurse I’ve ever had, you can’t just run away from your problems.”
You sat quietly knowing what he was saying was true, but still. Jim didn’t need you around his ship, as a constant reminder of the son he never had the chance to father. It wasn’t fair to him and if it meant that he could have some sort of peace, you’d gladly give up being a nurse.
Truthfully, you never really wanted to be a nurse. The night of the argument Jim and you had, his words had stung you badly, especially when he mentioned the plans you two had. “That wasn’t the plan! You left to study art and you’re a nurse! A nurse!”
He was right, you’re entire life all you ever wanted was to focus on your artwork. To be a painter and open your own studio, but everything changed when Sammy was born. Even after you had him, being at the art school felt empty. It was a nagging reminder of all the things you gave up, specifically Jim. You had lost all the motivation and passion you once had for creating new art, so you finished the high school program and graduated, switching to nursing after Thomas mentioned he could help you get into the Academy eventually.
“I can’t be here anymore, it’s not right,” you downed the rest of the drink and stood up, the alcohol rushed through your body. “I need to do what’s best for Jim. And if that means leaving, then well, it was good working with you Leonard. You’ve been a great friend.”
He opened his mouth to speak, but the door to his office slid open and Jim walked in. His eyes immediately went to the glass in your hands and he looked over to Leonard, who groaned. You placed the glass down and quietly thanked your friend for the drink, with your head held high and liquid courage running through your veins, you strolled over to Jim. The hurt on his face killed you and only made what you were about to say easier.
“Captain, I’m putting in for my official transfer. I’ll fill out the report and have it sent to you,” you voice was steady, but a tiny part of you, the childish part of you, wanted him to refuse. To hold you and tell you everything would be fine, but the two of you weren’t 17 anymore. This was the right thing to do, to disappear from Jim’s world.
“Are you sure?” His eyes flickered to you and in that instant, you almost broke. But you cleared your throat and nodded. “I-I’ll send it to Starfleet and I’m sure they’ll find a place for you somewhere else.”
Letting out a soft breath, you smiled weakly and walked out the room.
“She’s not  planning to transfer to another ship,” Leonard looked up from his drink and leaned forward, resting his elbows on his desk. Jim turned around to see the door close and walked over to the desk, lifting the glass you had just drank from.
“So you’re drinking together,” he haphazardly set the glass down and crossed his arms against his chest.
“The pair of you are going to kill me, have a seat Jim.”
The captain does what he is told and takes a seat across from Leonard. “She’s leaving Starfleet.”
Jim’s eyes jerked from his lap, “What are you talking about?”
“She’s quitting.”
“Why would she..” Jim’s voice trailed off, bringing a hand to the back of his neck.
“Listen don’t be mad, but I know about your son,” Leonard’s eyes watched Jim for any distressed, but he just let out a soft sigh. “I accidently found out, saw her medical records. I was gonna tell you, but I knew you needed to hear it from her. I’m sorry, Jim.”
“Don’t be,” Jim looked up at his best friend and shrugged. “It’s fine. You weren’t the one hiding the fact that I’m someone’s dad.”
“You get it, right?” Leonard grabbed a clean glass and poured some whiskey into it, sliding it over to Jim. “I mean, the two of you were kids! Listen, I love Joanna, but I don’t think I could have been a dad at 17.”
“She hid it from me, Bones. I lost all those years with my son,” Jim pushed away the glass and leaned back into his chair.
“She shouldn’t have lied, don’t you think she knows that? Can’t you just for a single moment imagine how she feels? She had to keep it locked away for all these years, it’s been eating away at her all this time.”
“I would have wanted to keep him,” Jim admitted freely, not bothering to look at his friend.
“Maybe she knew that,” Leonard pointed out with no satisfaction. “You’re the damn Captain of the greatest ship in the fleet! God man, do you think this would have happened if you stuck around Iowa raising a kid?”
Jim pursed his lips, because he was rendered speechless.
“Can’t you see it, man? I wasn’t there, I don’t know what she was feeling, but I know that she was a kid. A scared kid that made the best decision she could at the time and before you let her walk away. Talk to her, try to see where she is coming from. Get the answers you need and then if you have to, let her go man. Just let her go.”

You were busy stretching your sore and tight muscles. It didn’t seem to be doing much good, unfortunately.
“Honestly, there’s really not a whole lot that we can plan.” Paul said glumly “You know the only thing we can do to get you and Jo out of here.”
“I was really hoping you’d say that you know of a super secret escape hatch,” You said wistfully with a sigh.
“I wish, lass. I wouldn’t be here if I knew of one.” Paul laughed, shrugging his shoulders.
“Well, there’s nothing for it and we can’t just hide in here.” You said as you started to gather up your bow and arrow, which Paul had brought into the cave earlier with Jo.
“You never told me why you’re helping me.” You said as you slung the bow over your shoulder.
Paul snorted “because screw Ajek, and screw this place. I’m done playing by his rules. Besides, he’s never dragged a kid into this before. That’s low, even for him, offering her up as bait like that.”
Paul walked up beside you and handed you a rock sharpened into an arrow head, tied to a branch with twine. “For the little lass” Paul said quietly.
You took the crude spear from his hands silently. You look to Jo as she’s staring at the last of the fading fire. You have an internal struggle. She’s too young, she shouldn’t have to have any reason to use a spear. On the other hand, there’s no reason that the two of you should be here either. You can’t just leave her completely unprotected. You cursed inwardly.
“Hey, Jo. Come here.” You asked quietly. Jo turned and strode over to you, looking up into your eyes. “Jo, you know what this is?” You asked gently while holding out the spear to her.
“Yeah…” Jo trailed off apprehensively, eyeing the long piece of wood.
“I want you to hold onto this Jo, and keep it close.” You said as Jo got the implied meaning. She really was too smart for her own good.
“You want me to… use this?” Jo looked at the spear like it had just turned into a snake.
“I want to be smart Jo.” You began, phrasing your words carefully “I don’t know what else is out there. I’m going to do my best to protect you, but it’ll make me feel better if you at least have something.”
Jo regarded you and the spear for a few seconds. “You’re right Aunt Y/N.” Jo tightened her grip on the spear.
“Thank you, Jo.” You said relieved as you kissed the top of her head.
As if the universe had just heard what you had just told Jo, you heard a soft snuffling sound coming from the larger cave you came in from. The snuffling noise sounded deeper than what any wolf could make. “Great”, you thought, “just perfect.“
You immediately grabbed Jo to keep her calm and placed your finger on her lips. You looked to Paul, his face steeled but still showing slight lines of worry. You closed your eyes and groaned softly. Here you go again.
You went out of the small cave first, with Jo clinging to your shirt with her good arm, and Paul close behind. You made your way to the front of your little off set room and stole a glance out into the larger room. Well, unfortunately, you were right. It was big, really big. Your eyes went wide. It looked to be a bear, a really, really big bear. It’s giant white face was matted with blood. You hoped it had saved you the trouble and killed one or two rivals.
“Its blocking the entrance.” You whispered to Paul, pointing toward the exit.
“We need to distract it.” Paul said, looking around the room. You looked around the cave floor looking for a rock or anything you can throw. You managed to find a few that you hope will make enough noise and threw them against the other side of the cave. It seemed to work.
The bear began to lumber to the other side of the cave. You slowly made your way out and around the off set door way. You waved your hand to Jo and Paul for them to follow. You made your way to the entrance of the cave slowly.
The bear snuffled and made a low growl, getting frustrated at not finding the source of the sound. You stole a glance to see that the bear was still investigating. That is, until Jo, turning around to see the bear for the first time, made a small gasp.
“Oh Jo...” You cringed inwardly. The bear turned around at the noise and growled loudly.
“RUN!” Paul screamed. His yell snapped you to attention and you’re turning to run before you can even think.
“Come on Jo!” you yelled, grabbing Jo by the arm.
“I’m sorry!” Jo tried to apologize, stumbling along the cave floor.
“Just run!” You ordered, as you took Jo’s good arm and pulled her in front of you, putting yourself between her and the bear.
“What do we do now?” You yelled at Paul “where can we go?”
Paul was quiet for a few moments, which felt like years when there’s a gigantic bear, behind you. A gigantic, fast bear. “Why is everything around here so damn fast?” You curse inwardly. Why couldn’t it be killer turtles, or violent snails?
“Follow the stream!” Paul yelled, pointing at the long stretch of water “it gets bigger down river!”
You pretty much have no choice but to trust him. You kept the steady pace as you guide Jo closer to the stream so you can follow it easier.
You could hear the bear crashing through the trees. It was like a juggernaut. Instead of being slowed down by the trees and foliage, it seemed to just be gaining momentum with every stride.
You weren’t sure which is worse, being torn to shreds by wolves or mauled by a bear.
“We’ve gotta pick up the pace!” Paul yelled “we’re not going to make it if we don’t.” The bear roared loudly behind him, as if to reiterate his point.
“Jo!” was all you managed to say, lungs burning.
Paul picked up on your thoughts and maneuvered his way around you and picked up Jo, who yelped in surprise, and sprinted ahead.
“Damn” was all you could think as you watched Paul sprint almost effortlessly ahead. Then you suddenly realized you were now at the back and promptly quickened your pace. You ran a few hundred more feet until you noticed the stream getting wider and starting to flow faster.
“It’s just up ahead!” Paul yelled. You noticed that he was beginning to tire as he continued to run. Him carrying Jo had helped to put a little bit of distance between you and the bear at least. Not nearly enough though, the bear was relentless.
Soon, you reached the part of the river Paul must have been talking about. It was quickly turning into a roaring river. You didn’t have a good feeling about this at all.
Paul ran further down to an overhang before suddenly screeching to a halt. You ran right into the back of him and almost sent you all toppling over the edge.
“Paul what...?” You breathed out, chest heaving.
“Quick, there’s no time!” Paul said quickly as he handed Jo to you. You took Jo and held her close as she clung to your neck.
“Paul, don’t. Whatever crazy thing you’re thinking, don’t. We need you.” You pleaded as you could see the bear bounding closer in the distance, looking madder than ever. Jo whimpered into your neck quietly.
“You know this has to be done. It’ll just follow you downstream otherwise. Good luck Y/N, now GO!” Paul shouted as he pushed you forcefully, making you lose your footing as you topple over the edge.
You’re quickly enveloped in an icy cascade of water. Somehow in your surprise, you lost your grip on Jo. You kicked frantically as you tried to break the surface. You gasped as you’re finally able to take in a mouthful of air.
“JO!” You screamed out, choking on the water trying to escape your lungs.
You don’t see Jo anywhere. She couldn’t have possibly gotten that far, she was clinging onto you as you fell, wasn’t she?
“JO, where are you?” You cried out once more. You searched around frantically until your eyes land back up at Paul.
“You stupid son of a bitch, Paul!” You screamed up at him, watching him twirl the spear that he took from Jo in his hands.
“I know, lass.” he replied, steeling himself for the oncoming attack.
That was the last you saw of Paul before you were swept down river and around a bend.
You smacked the surface of the water in frustration and said a silent curse for his stupidity. Not wasting anymore time, you resumed your search for Jo.
“Jo!” you screamed desperately “please for the love of god, answer me. JoJo!”
You searched frantically as the river became wider and more swift. You’re having to kick, and strain harder to try to keep your head above the water and go in a semi straight line to avoid rocks and fallen branches.
“Please, Jo. I’m begging you, kid. Answer me! Anything!” You pleaded as your eyes scanned everywhere.
You were close to having a meltdown before you finally saw the hint of pink from Jo’s favorite shirt 50 yards away or so.
“Oh thank god!” you murmured. Your thanks were short lived as you notice she’s face down and not moving in the swift current.
“Shit! JO!” You screamed, trying desperately to get your arms and legs to start working together to try to reach Jo.
You were making good progress as the river started to pick up even more. Worry flitted across your mind of another cliff. You pushed it down and concentrated on swimming. You grimaced every time Jo would bump into a branch or into a rock.
You noticed in your peripherals the river turning fierce. Rapids, and not any gentle ones either. They encased your body and began thrashing you around, head bobbing under and above the water repeatedly.
“Shit!” You exclaimed, coughing up water. You thrash around trying to get your bearings back, trying desperately not to take your eyes off Jo. You should have though. Then you would have seen the jagged rocks sooner.
Your eyes went wide. With the current of the river not only getting faster, if that were even possible, hitting those rocks was going to hurt and Jo seemed to be drifting right to them.
“Dammit Jo!” You cried, as you went into overdrive. Jo was still, maybe, 25 yards away and those rocks weren’t much further out.
You kicked and paddled as hard as you could. You tried to work with the river instead of against it. You pushed off from branches and rocks, clawing at the water, desperate to gain any ground, willing your body to work harder.
Your hard work paid off and you finally made it over to Jo with one last push off a rock. You grabbed Jo by the ankle and pulled her toward you and lifted her head out of the water. Her head lolled back onto your shoulder, she wasn’t breathing and she was beginning to turn blue.
You were so focused on Jo, you had forgotten about the rocks until it was too late. Having no time to swim out of the way, you do the only thing you have time for.
You quickly moved Jo behind you as you slammed into the rock hard, Jos added dead weight, not helping. You gasped and sputtered as pain shot through your ribs, making nothing but white explode in your vision. You tried to take in a few breaths but even that’s excruciating. It’s all you can do to keep your vision focused and keep a hold of Jo.
“Fuck it.” You breathed out, not having much other choice. You launched yourself and Jo from the rock. Your chest exploded with pain, but there’s nothing you can do about it for now. You have to make it to the bank, or you’re both dead.
This time though, you started making your way across the river, towards the bank. Every movement sent pain flaring from your chest, but you grit your teeth and choked it down.
You’re finally able to make it to the bank after what seems like an eternity. Being out of the water and having your ribs feel the full weight of gravity and pressure on them was absolute agony. You had bigger issues to deal with at the moment.
You hauled Jo up on the bank and immediately open and sweep her mouth before beginning CPR. You frantically began humming “another one bites the dust” to match your compressions.
“Damn, why do they pick the most morbid songs?” you thought as you pinched Jo’s nose and gave her small puffs of air.
“Come on Jo, don’t you dare give up on me” you cried as tears streamed down your face. You switched to “Stayin’ alive” as you restarted compressions. Not a lot better, but it helped.
You continued chest compressions and breathing for what seemed like hours, but it had probably been only minutes. Your chest was continuing to protest angrily.
“Jo, come back to me!” You ordered, getting angry “after all we’ve been through Jo, I am not letting you give up! Not now!”
You gave Jo another breath and she started to sputter and tried to cough up the water in her lungs.
“Jo!” You yelled “That’s my girl! Come back to me Jo” you encouraged as you began to tilt Jo on her side as she choked and spit up all the water.
“Atta girl Jo, you’re ok, get all that water out for me.” You said quickly, as you rubbed her back.
Jo choked and sputtered for a few more moments before finally taking a deep breath and gulping in all the air she possibly could, like she had never breathed before.
“You’re ok Jo, you’re alright. Calm even breaths for me Jo” You encouraged, patting her back softly.
“Y/N...” was all Jo could croak out.
“I’m here Jo, I’m here. I got you.” You reassured her. At those words, Jo began to sob.
“Hey now Jo, it’s okay, you’re safe. I’m not going to let anything happen to you, I promised.” You said softly. Jo sat up now and turned to you and went to wrap her arms around you and squeezed you tight. You yelped at the pressure.
Jo immediately withdrew. “Did I hurt you, Y/N? I’m sorry.” she said softly.
“It’s not your fault Jo.” You said as you began to press in on your ribs. You grimace as you hear a slight crunch each time you did. “Yep” you thought “definitely broken”
“Jo, help me take off this shirt.” You asked, thinking quickly.
“What are you doing?” Jo asked, moving to help.
“I have to splint these ribs Jo. This is all I got.” You said as you pull your shirt over your head gingerly, leaving you in a tank top. You folded up your shirt the best you could and lay on top of it.
“Alright Jo, I need you to push in right here for me, okay?” You say as you guide her good hand to your broken ribs.
“Is this going to hurt?” Jo asked, grimacing slightly.
“I sure hope not Jo, but probably. No matter what, don’t let go, okay?” You ordered. Jo just nodded in response as she moved into position.
“Okay push in.” You said. Her little hand felt like a 20lb weight. The pain made you see a few stars. You tried to muffle your cries, but despite your best efforts, a few get through. Jo is a trooper though, and doesn’t let up. You maneuvered your shirt around your chest the best you could and tied it tight.
“Okay Jo, you can let go now.” You said, completely out of breath. You laid there for a few seconds trying to catch your breath and wait for the pain to settle down to a manageable level. You had hoped it would anyway.
“How are you doing Jo? Are you okay?” You breathed out, trying to take your mind off the pain.
“I’m okay Y/N. I just want to go home.” Jo said, as a tear slipped down her cheek. You didn’t blame her one bit, you were ready to cry and get off this damn planet too.
You lifted your hand to wipe Jo’s cheek, “You’ve done so well Jo. You’ve been so brave. I’m so proud of you. I know this has to be hard for you Jo. This is a scary place, but I’m going to get us out of here, I promise.” You said as you gave her a tiny smile.
“I’m trying.” Jo said as she sniffled and gave you a tiny smile back “and I know you will, you’ve gotten us this far”
“You’re damn right, Jo. Now let’s get going. Help me roll over?” You asked. Jo leaned against your the best she could and helped you roll over to your side. You took a short breath and steeled yourself. You slowly got up to your hands and knees.
“Whew, Jo, this sucks.” Tou joked, trying to take your mind off of the pain.
“You move around like daddy after he works out too much.” Jo observed, also trying to help. You gave out a tiny laugh. What you wouldn’t give to see that right now.
You crawled your way to a rock and hoisted yourself up slowly. Jesus, that sucked. If you ended up on your back again, you would be toast if your lives depended on it. You decided to keep that bit of information to yourself.
“Where to now, Y/N?” Jo asked, looking around the open landscape.
“I really don’t know, Jo. Were in new territory now.” You admitted defeated, as you made you grab your bow once more, thanking the heavens you didn’t lose it in the river.
“I guess we just pick a direction and go.” Jo said as she took off first, you right  on her heels as you made your way through the foliage.
You had been following Jo for what seemed like hours. Every breath and step made your chest flair in agony.
You felt warm, was it warmer outside than what it had been earlier? You lift your hand to your face where you’re greeted with a slight sheen of sweat and felt your forehead. You feel warm. “Fever?” you question. Surely not, you began to go over your symptoms in your head.
“I need to sit down for a minute, Jo.” you said as you plop down on a rock, not waiting for a response.
“Are you okay, Y/N?” Jo asked concerned, giving you the once over.
“Yeah Jo, I just need to rest a minute.” You replied tiredly.
You sat on the rock for a while trying to regain your strength. You began to wonder if this place had a beginning or end. While you were deep in thought, you notice a big flock of birds take off and fly away, accompanied by a soft rumbling noise.
“What the hell?” You ask thoughtfully as the rumbling began to get louder. Your thoughts immediately went to the bear, had it finally caught up with you? What happened to Paul? You put those thoughts aside as you noticed the rumbling sounded like hooves thundering against the ground.
You stand up on your rock and begin to look around. In the distance you noticed a herd of what look like deer. “Huh, finally, something that won’t try to eat us.” Tou thought fleetingly.
Your thoughts then went to, “what might be trying to eat them?” The thought didn’t comfort you one bit.
“Come on Jo, we need to get going.” You said as you went to grab her hand. As you go to reach out for Jo, you heard another type of rumble, not of hooves, nor footfalls. This was a deep earthen rumble that shook down to the very core of where you were standing. The whole landscape began to shake.
“Y/N, what’s going on?” Jo asked beginning to get scared
You begin to panic slightly as the landscape began to shake even more. How the hell do you outrun an earthquake?
“Come on Jo, we have to get out of these trees.” You yelled as you grabbed her hand and headed for the clearing. You ran out of the edge of the forest and to a more rocky terrain. The ground shook violently and you wondered how long this was going to last.
You held Jo tight to you and crouched where you stood, trying not to lose your footing. You looked down at your feet as you noticed tiny cracks starting to dance across the ground.
“This is not good” you think to yourself “shitshitshit”
“Jo, we gotta run!” You screamed as you grabbed her hand and pushed her in front of you. You couldn’t run back to the forest for the falling trees, the only way to go was forward and that didn’t look promising, but you had to try. Taking in a breath and tightening your t-shirt around your ribs, you took off.
The cracks started to move more swiftly through the rock laden earth as you tried to outrun them. It wasn’t helping that the earth’s shaking was throwing you two off balance as you went.
The earth was quickly giving way to the relentless shaking and it started to open all around you, making you have to jump over small fissures. You were looking around trying to figure out where to go, when you started to see a break in the earth unaffected by the shaking.
“Jo, that way!” you yelled as you changed her direction. You two made a beeline for the edge. The earth is breaking up faster than you thought. The crack ran by you swiftly and the earth began to open up before your eyes at an alarming rate.
“Shit Jo, brace yourself!” you screamed as you did your best to pick her up with your chest screaming in utter agony from the running and the shaking. You managed to pick her up enough and toss her across the gap, as the earth opened up even more and swallowed you whole, disappearing from sight.
Jo skidded across the ground from where she fell. “No! Aunt Y/N! Aunt Y/N!” she yelled as she picked herself up and ran back to where you fell. Thankfully the relentless earthquake was starting to calm.
“Aunt Y/N, where are you!?” Jo screamed as she skidded to a stop at the edge and tentatively looked down.
“I’m here, Jo. I’m okay, kinda...” You yelled up as your finger tips were clasped onto a tiny outcrop to cling to and your feet barely finding a tiny ledge to rest on.
“What do I do?” Jo asked as she tried to reach her little hand down to you “I can’t reach you” as tears began to fall down her cheeks “please tell me what to do”.
“I don’t know Jo, let me think a minute.” You replied quietly. You had no idea what you were going to do. Your arms and legs were shaking from the strain of trying to hold yourself up and close to the edge. Your chest was on fire from the running and shaking and now trying to hold yourself up. There was no way you could climb up the side, even without broken ribs, there was nothing to cling onto.
“Aunt Y/N, please..” Jo trailed off choking back a sob “I’m scared”.
“It’s okay Jo, go see if you can find something to lower down to me, vines, stick, anything. But be careful and watch your surroundings.” You yelled up at her. You heard her little footsteps race off into the distance. You hoped she’d be okay off on her own.
You rested your forehead against the cool earth. You sent Jo on a fool’s errand you begin to think. Even if Jo did find something to pull you up with, Jo wasn’t big enough to hold your weight and you didn’t know if there was anything big enough around to tie anything to.
And your ribs? Could they even handle the force and pressure of trying to haul yourself up? Tears slipped down your cheeks, you were exhausted and angry. It couldn’t end here could it? You’d come so far, you had to get out of this somehow, if only for Jo. She didn’t deserve to die here.
You clung to the side of the earth for what seemed like ages. Your arms and legs were beginning to turn to jello. You began to think even if Jo did by some miracle find something, you didn’t know if you’d have the strength to do anything with it.
“JO!” you yelled out, starting to get worried “Jo where are you?” as your feet began to slip off their small crevice. This wasn’t going to last much longer and you had no place to go.
“Aunt Y/N!” You hear Jo yelling faintly in the distance “Aunt Y/N! I found the perfect thing”! Jo’s tiny footfalls fell softly on the earth as she came to a stop at the edge. Jo peeked over the edge down at you and smiles.
“I found the perfect thing!” She said triumphantly, grinning from ear to ear.
“What did you find Jo?” You replied as a hand is shoved roughly in your face.
“What the f…” You said staring at the hand and followed an arm up to the owner’s face.
“PAUL! Oh my god, Paul, you glorious bastard! You have no idea how glad I am to see your ugly mug!” You said as tears now streamed down your face in relief.
“You didn’t count me out that easy now did you, Lass. I have to say I’m a little hurt.” Paul smirked down at you “now let’s get you topside”
“Thank god, but I broke some ribs, I dunno if I can..” You began to explain.
“Shut up lass, I don’t want to hear any excuses from you. We’ve been chased by a bear and you went swimming in those rapids, you can do this. Time to put up and shut up” Paul said sternly “Now take my hand.”
“You’re right” you replied as you grasped his hand, steeling yourself for what’s to come. You link your hand and arm together as Paul slowly started to shimmy his way backwards. The sudden expansion of your chest makes stars explode in your eyes. You bit on your tongue to keep yourself from screaming out and just focused on getting up. You scrambled the toes of your shoes against the side of the earth, trying to get as much traction as possible. You neared the top and stretched out your free hand to grasp the side of the ledge.
“Come on lass, almost there, put your back into it. It’s like I’m doing all the work here.” Paul grunted, trying not to hurt you too much as he pulled you up further.
“Shut your face, Paul.” you wheezed out, utterly spent. Paul just chuckled.
“I got you Y/N.” Jo said as she put her hands under your armpit and tried to heave you up with as much strength as a ten year old could muster. Paul repositioned himself further down your arm and hoisted you up the rest of the way.
You flopped down on your back, so thankful to be on the flat surface once more.
“Solid, flat ground! I will never take the ground under my feet for granted ever again.” you panted out of breath. Jo immediately coming to sit by you and taking your hand into her lap, holding it tightly.
“I’m just glad the little lass found me. I’ve been looking everywhere for you two. I followed the river and saw the indention of where you crawled out on the bank, but there wasn’t much else to go on.” Paul said, panting slightly
“I am too. You did a good job Jo, I’m proud of you.” You said softly as you squeezed Jo’s hand tightly.
“We’ll give you a few minutes to rest, then we better get going.” Paul said as he stood guard.
“Just… just 5 more minutes.” You wheezed as you again check your shirt “help me tie this back Jo”. After your shirt was securely back in place, Paul helped you slowly to your feet.
“You gonna to be okay, lass.” Paul asked, giving you a once over.
“You kidding? I’m alive! I could run a marathon!” You exclaimed and went to take a few steps and winced in pain “Okay maybe a half marathon”
Paul just laughed at you and patted your back softly “Whatever you say lass”. Paul started off in front of you and you and Jo follow closely behind.
You had begun to walk back through the forest. It at least provided some shade from the relentless sun. You had been walking for what felt like ages. You were exhausted, you were hungry and your mouth so very dry.
“Jo, Paul, I gotta stop for a minute.” you said as you sat down on a rock, as a wave of nausea hits, not even waiting on a response.
“Are you ok, Y/N?” Jo asked concerned.
“Yeah, Jo. I’m ok, I just need a rest.” You answered, winded. The nausea got increasingly worse. “Please don’t puke” you plead with yourself, not wanting to imagine what retching would do to your poor ribs.
You closed your eyes and focused on just breathing. Paul came and sat beside you and started rubbing your back with his hand, his gesture oddly comforting. Jo crawled over to your side, rubbing your arm gently.
“I love you, Jo.” you said as you head is between your knees.
“I love you too, Y/N.” Jo replied as she rested her cheek on your back.
The three of you must have dozed off because you didn’t hear the commotion before it was too late.
You heard a twig snap, and voices coming from the trees. Your eyes flew open. You and Paul leapt to your feet, much to your ribs protest, and swallowed down any hint of nausea that might have remained.
You immediately unslung your bow and had an arrow knocked in two seconds flat. Paul had his trusty spear out, covered completely down the hilt with blood.
“Jo stay close.” You whispered. You didn’t have to say anything as Jo was already attached to your leg. You and Paul scanned the forest for the owners of the voices. You didn’t have to look long before you found the source of the noise before four men stepped out from the tree line.
“Son of a..” You thought to yourself.
“Take one more step, and this arrow flies in between your eyes.” You said threateningly, knocking an arrow.
“Aye, we don’t want to have to hurt the lot of ye!” Paul added, equally as menacing. Apparently his accent came out in full force when he was stressed.
Three out of the four hesitate slightly. The fourth just gave you a smug smile and began to advance. Not giving him one more step, you released your arrow. True to your word, the man fell backward with an arrow planted firmly in between his eyes, a look of shock forever strewn across his face.
“Holy hell, lass. Where’d you learn how to do that?” Paul asked, clearly impressed.
You don’t reply. You quickly knock another arrow and are faintly aware of Jo clinging even tighter to you, burying her head in your hip.
“Anyone else want to try?” You ask menacingly, moving your bow from person to person.
“Give us the girl.” The one with the mace said “our beef isn’t with you.”
“If you want her, then your beef is entirely with me. You’re going to have to get through me first.” You warned, pulling your arrow back further.
“Aye, me as well, ya bloody wankers!” Paul said as he twirled his spear around.
“Very well.” The man replied as the remaining three began to spread out “this should be fun”.
You let another arrow fly as they began to advance. They were expecting it now, and quickly dodged out of the way. “Damn” you thought glumly. You reached back into your quiver for another arrow, last one, better make this count.
Since they were expecting head and upper body shots, you decide to take a different approach. You quickly loose the arrow before they could react, hitting your target. You took out the guys knee, who was carrying an axe, with a clean shot. He dropped to the ground in agony, that quickly turned to rage as he broke the arrow in half and pulled it out.
“Shit” you said quietly to yourself.
“Leave him to me, lass.” Paul said as he advanced, tightening his grip on his spear.
“Now what are you going to do sweetheart? You’re all out of arrows.” The man with the mace asked.
“Don’t count me out just yet, asshole.” You muttered as you turned to face him head on. You weren’t quite sure what you were going to do honestly, you were still outmatched and your ribs were still on fire.
That is until you felt Jo, moving beside you. Before you had a chance to see what she was doing, you saw a rock whiz passed your head and hit the man squarely in the nose. “Kids got aim” you thought as she kept throwing rocks, one after the other.
“Cut it out you little runt!” The man growled, focusing his attention on Jo “I’m going to enjoy gutting you.”
You saw nothing but red at his words and you used the temporary distraction to charge the man and tackle him like you did the very first. This time though, your tackle wasn’t quite as efficient thanks to your broken ribs and utter exhaustion.
You did at least manage to knock him off his feet, but he grabbed your pants and brought you down with him, as his mace tumbled out of his hands.
You managed to land on top of him, and got in a few blows first, successfully breaking his nose. This made him angry, he bucked you off and grabbed you by your waist and threw you down hard. You grunted from the pressure and pain flared up through your chest once more.
The man gladly returned the broken nose you gave him. Stars once again danced in your vision as blood poured down your face. You struggled violently until he rendered you immobile by punching you in your ribs. You screamed an ungodly scream as pain seared through your abdomen.
You figured you were done for, as your body shook as pain ripped through every fiber. So many things went through your head, from Jim, to Leonard, to Jo. God, how you completely failed them all by not being able to get you two back safe.
You stole a glance over at Paul, who was busy getting his face beat in, trying to reach his spear. Hot tears began to streak down your face.
“That’s it, cry for me you little bitch. I’m going to have so much fun with this.” the man smiled menacingly as his hand began to play with the top of your pants and started to slip a couple fingers behind the seam.
The man suddenly shrieked in pain as something thudded against his temple.
“Leave my aunt alone!” Jo screamed with all she had as she held the mace in her hands. The man was stunned to say the least, but not for long. He began to recover.
“You little RAT! That’s it, I’m done playing games!” He yelled as he went to grab Jo. Jo wasn’t fast enough and only made it a few feet before he grabbed her and began to choke her.
“I’m going to enjoy this.” He said, tightening his grip. Jo tried to scream but she couldn’t.
“Hey, jackass!” you shouted from behind him. Startled, the man turned quickly, just in time for you to run the other man’s axe across his throat. He immediately released Jo and clutched his throat.
Blood cascaded like a waterfall down his neck and down the front of his shirt.
“If you relax, you might have four minutes to live, less if you panic.” You said coldly “each beat of your heart is just going to push more out.”
You leave him to his slow agonizing suffering and turn toward Jo. She’s just sitting there watching the man, slowly bleed out, rubbing her throat absently. You quickly go to her and turn her around.
“Jo, hey, are you okay?” You asked and she just nodded in reply, as you lifted up her chin gently with your hand as you inspected her throat. Slightly red, but not too bad.
“Can you speak for me, Jo?” You asked quietly, trying to get Jo to focus.
She nodded “yeah, just sore” she replied.
You pulled her in for a quick hug as you survey the scene. One man with an arrow between the eyes, another with Paul’s spear through his chest, with an unconscious Paul laying beside him, and thanks to other man’s axe, one was seconds away from bleeding out in front of you.
You pause for a second. “That’s 3” you muttered “wasn’t there…” you began to think, but were cut off as you look down as you feel a pinch and see a shiny red gleam now protruding from your stomach. “Four?” you finished in you head as the man twisted and yanked the sword back out.
How could you have lost track of how many men there were? How did you not hear him sneaking up behind you?
You were vaguely aware of Jo screaming and yelling your name as you drop to your knees as blood began to pour from your wound and your mouth. You wondered if he punctured your lung as well as your breaths didn’t seem to be doing much good. The man moved in front of you and pushed you onto your back.
“I want you to watch as I kill you.” The man said. You’re not sure you could anyway as your eyes are beginning to lose focus as you lay choking and sputtering as your own blood began to fill your lungs and mouth.
As the man brought up his sword to deliver the final blow, all you could think was of everyone you were leaving behind. The people you loved, who you would never see again. The things you wanted to do but would never be able to now.
You waited for the blow, but it never came. You could make out some commotion and some voices here and there as your hearing and eyesight began to fade.
“Uncle Jim!” you swore you heard Jo yell. Jim? It couldn’t be. Could it? You continued to choke on your blood, slowly losing consciousness from lack of oxygen.
“…choking, Unc- Jim… her over” you heard faintly as you felt pressure on your side. You figured if by some chance you weren’t dead yet, you were fixing to be as you felt your eyes roll back into your head as you began shaking violently and uncontrollably.
“Shit… seizure… Scotty…. us up”  was the last thing you heard before darkness consumed you once again.

The One, part 4
Tumblr media
Jim Kirk x Reader
Warnings: angst, a little twist at the end of this one
Summary: It had been years since you had last since Jimmy. The two of you were highschool sweethearts, until you parted ways. After a horrible breakup with your two timing ex-fiance, you transfer to the U.S.S Enterprise. Finally coming face to face with the boy you left behind. Can the two of you work alongside each other in peace? Or will the past come back to haunt you?
The One Masterlist
“They should call you the Meddling Doctor, ” you teased Leonard. The two of you were comparing reports on your PADDs and he had mentioned yet again what had happened nearly a week ago.
“I'm just asking, I can ask questions right? This is my Medbay, or has Jim transferred the duties to someone far less qualified?”
You snorted and placed the PADD down, “What do you want me to say? That I completely embarrassed myself in front of my fellow crew mates? Or that I'm pretty certain Jim hates me? Because that is all just fine and dandy, Lee.”
He rolled his eyes, “You are being over dramatic. Jim doesn't hate you.”
“Well he should,” you muttered under your breath.
Bones gave you a long and hard look, before opening his mouth once again. “So you covered up some silly tattoo. You've said it yourself, it's been years since the two of you were together.”
“So he told you about the tattoo,” you perked up and smiled slyly at the doctor.
“What can I say? I'm just so easy to talk to,” Leonard grinned and you rolled your eyes. “But come on darlin’, what happened between the two of you?”
“Bones,” you warned pushing away from counter and toward the patient in bed 2. Thinking the relentless doctor was done interrogating you, you proceeded to look over the woman in the bed. Until Leonard came up behind you and started pestering you some more.
“Are you speaking on behalf of Jim? Or is it pure curiosity? Because you do what know happened to the cat, right?”
Leonard let out a rough huff and followed you away from the patient, “I'm not going to meow for you, but sure out of pure curiosity.”
You walked over to one of the empty beds and sat on the edge of it, “I'm only going to say this once, so listen up.”
The handsome doctor stood in front of you, hands crossed against his chest waiting for you to go on.
“We were 17, Lee. Kids. I had left for the summer for an art program and well, I never came back.”
“Jesus, so you left Jim behind? Didn't even tell him?”
You winced at his words, because the truth hurt. But you had your reasons. “I did and that's why he hates me.”
Leonard stood quiet for a moment, adding things up in his head until he slowly shook his head. “That can't be just it, you're not telling me something.”
You sighed and ran a hand over your face. Standing up from the bed, you patted a hand onto Leonard’s shoulder. “Somethings are better left unsaid, we all have our secrets Lee. Just leave it alone, please.”
“So she thinks I hate her?” Jim scoffed and leaned against Leonard’s desk. His friend leaned back into his chair and shrugged.
“That’s what she told me, said that some things were better left unsaid. That everyone had their secrets. And then she told me to drop it.”
Jim’s eyes darted to the doctor, “Secrets?”
“Secrets.” Bones repeated, his hand opened the bottom draw of his desk. Jim watched his friend pull out a bottle of whiskey and two small glasses. “You look like you need a drink.”
“Thanks, Bones,” Jim reached down for his drink and quickly took an extra long sip. The drink ran smoothly down his throat and he let out a soft ‘ah’ before nodding to Leonard.  “What secrets?”
“How am I supposed to know? You’re the one that was with her.”
“I know, I know. I just don’t understand,” Jim’s eyes peered down into his drink, he whooshed the alcohol around and wondered where it all went wrong.
“What do you mean you’re not coming back!” Jim’s panic voice hit your ears harshly, tears welled up in your eyes. He was staring at you in disbelief, his eyes scanned your face for evidence of humor.
“I'm sorry, Jim. It’s just this place is great and they said I had real talent,” you summoned up a smile and tried to shrug it off. You were dreading this video call for weeks and now this was it.
“But you’ll be back eventually, right?” His face lit up in hope as he brushed hair from his handsome face. You could almost feel his touch on you and it killed you.
Your lips trembled and you wished you could tell him the truth. That you didn’t want to stay, that you wanted to rush home. Right into his arms. But you were scared, terrified.
“I-I don’t know. Maybe, someday,” you whispered, hoping he’d understand.
Jim stood there in silence as his heart dropped hard. What did he do? He must have done something to drive you away, to make you want stay away. He ran a million different moments the two of you had through his head, trying to find the one that made you change your mind. That changed the way you felt about him.
“What did I do?”
“Oh god,” you stuttered pulling back a sob, Jim ran a hand over his face. “Jim it’s not that, I want to be here. I need to be here.”
“You were always a terrible liar,” he laughed dryly. He wanted to be strong, he was strong. “Listen, just have fun. Work hard. Call me in a few weeks. I’ll be here.”
You wiped the tears from your eyes and took a deep breath, “Okay. I have to go now.”
“Alright,” Jim’s voice cracked as he said goodbye. But then he steadied his face and smiled brightly at you. He leaned forward and stared right into your eyes. “I love you, Y/N.”
“I love you too, Jim. Bye.”
Jim took another sip of the smooth whiskey and thought of that video call, because it was the last time he saw your face. He had lost you for good and he never knew why. And now you were here, nearly 13 years later. For the life of him, Jim could not get over the fact that you decided to board his ship. To transfer knowing he was the Captain. Was it like you said? That you had the desire to be on the best ship in the Fleet? Were you just running away from a cheating ex? Or did you come back for unfinished business?
“Maybe I’m playing myself, Bones,” Jim glanced over to the man, his eyes somber and light. “It has been a long time, we hardly know each other now.”
“That’s all true.”
“Exactly, I’ve gone all these years without thinking much of her,” Jim’s eyes caught Leonard’s unconvinced smile, “Okay, so I thought about her, but she obviously has moved on. So I will too.”
“If you say so,” Leonard finished his drink and stood up from his seat. “Maybe you should start by filling in that little tattoo of yours.”
Jim smirked setting his empty glass down. “I suppose so.”
You stood on the observation deck, staring out into the vast darkness. The stars were so different from up here, you felt homesick. You thought about your parents and if they were okay. You probably should call them soon. Sighing you grip the sketch pad in your hand and flipped it open, you landed on a small sketch. A pair of mesmerizing blue eyes smiled up at you, a pouty little mouth and cute little dimples. You grinned and bit down on your lip.
“I should have never came here,” you whispered to no one. Tears fell down your face, so you moved closer to the window and pressed a hand on the glass. You should have stayed on the USS Inquisitor, but instead you ran away. Ran away from Ranin and his cheating, just like you ran away from Jim. You were cowardly and this time age was not a factor, you couldn’t put the blame on being a sullen teenager. It was time to face the past, to tell the truth. No matter how badly it stung and pained you, it was no longer easy to hold on to. The truth was baring down on you, crushing everything inside you. It needed to be released.
Leonard strolled into the SickBay, assigning a few tasks to the nurses on duty. He took his cup of coffee and walked over to where he had left his PADD, but there were two. He groaned because the other was most likely yours. Setting his cup down he grabbed one of the PADDs and turned it on, it was not his. He flipped through the report, wondering what patient report you were looking over. It was a medical history, intrigued the doctor went through it contently, humming away until something caught his eye. A single line in the report.
Stardate 2250:  Gave birth to healthy male.
Leonard quickly scrolled up to the top of the report, trying to figure out who the medical history belonged to. His heart pounded away and he hoped it wasn’t who he thought. But sure enough when he reached the top, your name was right there.
Secrets, he thought. We all have secrets.

If you don’t want to be tagged, then shoot me a message and I will try to keep my tears to a minimum, and go to my room and think about what I did. Be gentle. I am a delicate flower.
Special thanks to: @outside-the-government for encouraging me to write again, and for being my beta and idea bouncer. Also @imoutofmyvulcanmind for being an idea bouncer, and letting me torture you with snippets, yay!

This is becoming quite the list of tags. No pressure right? *hyperventilates*
You came slowly back to consciousness. The blood in your ears was roaring. Finding yourself coming back from unconsciousness was beginning to be a really annoying habit you thought to yourself.
Wait a minute, that roar, that’s not blood roaring in your ears. That’s a waterfall you conclude. Waterfall? “Jo..” your eyes snapped open and you sat up immediately.
“Jo?” You tried to say, but you began choking on a lung full of water.
“Hey, easy there. Take it easy, lass. You took quite the tumble.” You heard a voice say that was definitely not Jo’s, but belonged to a man.
You heard the man walk up behind you, then felt their hand on your back and the other start to snake underneath your arm to help you up.
You rocketed to your feet and turned around to face the man, putting space between the two of you.
Your hands immediately started fumbling for your bow, only to have your heart sink when you don’t feel the bowstring across your chest.
“Easy lass, easy. I’m not going to hurt you.” The man said as he raised his arms in the air.
“Forgive me if I don’t believe you.” You said, regarding his every movement and giving him a thorough once over.
“Wheres Jo?” You asked, looking around and fearing the worst.
“Relax, shes further inside, getting warm by the fire. Which is what you should do, you’re soaked and shaking.” The man replied, his hands lifted slightly in the air in surrender.
You stared at him and noted the look on his face and he seemed to actually look concerned about you. He was right though, you were shaking. Although you weren’t sure if it was from being cold or from the adrenaline.
You reluctantly took your eyes off the stranger in order to take in your surroundings. You realized you were in a fairly large cave, a cave behind the waterfall.
“The names Paul, what’s yours?” Paul asked as he offered out his hand. You made no move to shake his hand or offer your name. Paul almost looked hurt.
“You don’t trust me, I get it, but if I wanted you dead, you’d be dead, both you and the girl.” Paul stated matter of fact, lowering his hand.
“He's right” you thought. He could have easily killed you both and been done with it, so why hadn’t he? Curiosity getting the best of you, you relent and extend your hand.
“Kirk, Y/N Kirk.” You said as you put out your hand to shake his.
“Kirk?” Paul questioned quietly and surprised, taking your hand “makes sense.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” You asked, arching an eyebrow.
“Come on, we’ll talk by the fire. We don’t need you getting hypothermia. I’ll also bet you want to see your daughter.” Paul said as he made to lead you further inside.
“My daughter? Oh, no, Jo’s not my daughter. Everyone seems to think so apparently, which is probably why she’s in this mess with me.” You grumbled as you followed Paul further in, still not completely letting your guard down.
You began to smell the telltale scent of a fire. As you got closer, you could see a tiny shadow dancing on the wall in the fire light.
“Jo!” You yelled, pushing your way past Paul.
“Aunt Y/N!” Jo exclaimed “You’re awake! I was so worried!” as she ran up and gave you a hug with only one arm. You held Jo close, soaking her shirt once more in the process.
“Come on Jo, let’s get dry.” You said as you moved to usher her toward the flames. You noticed she’s holding her arm close to her chest.
“Jo, are you ok?” You scrutinized, taking in Jos body language.
“Yeah, I'm fine Y/N.” Jo replied quietly. Afraid you would beat yourself up if she admitted you hurt her when you fell.
“Jo...” you stopped walking and put your hand on her tiny shoulder “don’t lie to me Jo, please. Not now, not here.” You pleaded. Jo just looked guilty and stared at her feet.
“I think she hurt her wrist, but she won’t let me get close enough to have a look.” Paul said quietly, trying to help.
“Good girl Jo. Now let’s have a look.” You said once again, leading Jo to the fire.
“This might hurt a bit, okay?” You said as you went to lift her arm to you.
“Okay...” Jo breathed out, letting out a tiny whimper as you take her wrist in your hands gently and start feeling and manipulating it around. Jo winced at your movements and tried to yank her wrist away involuntarily.
“I’m sorry Jo, I’m done now. I’m pretty sure its broken.” Jo let a tear roll down her cheek in response. You’ll feel better once we set it and get that bone lined up. I promise.” You said as you reassured her with a hug.
“Paul do you have any sticks, ropes, anything?” You asked finally acknowledging his presence.
“I can probably come up with something.” Paul replied as he left the small room.
You sat down on the ground next to the fire, up against the cave wall. You encouraged Jo to sit on your lap, which she was all too happy to do so. She curled up in your lap with her head on your shoulder. You leaned your head over and rested your cheek on the top of Jo’s head.
You were tired, no, exhausted. You hadn’t slept since that night in the cell, and that wasn’t very long. That tumble off the cliff had completely done you in. The warmth of the fire began to seep through your still damp clothes and warmed your core. You began to doze off.
“Here you go, lass.” Paul said quietly as he came back in the room.
You snorted yourself awake. When did you fall asleep? How long had it been? Paul had brought some straight sticks and some twine and fabric. It wasn’t much but it was better than nothing. You took the supplies from his outstretched hands gratefully.
“Thank you.” You mumbled “okay Jo, let’s get this set. I’m not going to lie or sugar coat it. It’s going to hurt because I’m going to have to pull your wrist back so the bones will line up right”
“I understand, just please hurry.” Jo asked. Jo had always appreciated you talking to her like she was an adult and not glossing over any details just because she was a child. This time, however, she was not appreciating it one bit.
You took her wrist and began to get to work, explaining everything you were doing before you did it.
“How does that feel, Jo? Feel better?” You asked, concerned with the amount of pain poor Jo must have been in.
“Yeah, thanks Aunt Y/N.” Jo replied sniffled slightly, hugging her arm back to her chest.
“You did great, Jo. I’m proud of you. You’re one tough little girl.” You said smiling down at her.
“I learned from the very best.” Jo replied sleepily, letting out a yawn.
“That you did, Jo.” You said as you gave her a kiss on the top of her head “you need to get some sleep. I’ll watch over you”
You pulled Jo back in close as she laid her head in your lap. You began to run your fingers through her hair until you heard her soft snores.
You chuckled to yourself “she takes after Leonard” you thought as her soft snore comforted you. You sighed as you laid your head back against the cave wall.
“Go ahead and get some sleep, lass, you look like hell.  I’ll take watch for a few hours, we’ll talk in the morning” Paul offered, trying his best to help.
You thought about protesting, but you were too damn tired. Against your better judgement, you closed your eyes and promptly fell asleep.
“Aunt Y/N, Aunt Y/N, wake up!” Jo repeated as she shook your shoulder “get up, it’s breakfast time.” You snorted awake and groaned, you ached in places that you didn’t even know existed.
“Breakfast?” You asked as you gave Jo a questioning look “Jo.. what?..”
“It’s not much, but it’s really all there is that’s edible around here.” Paul walked in the room and offered you a leaf full of what looked to be fruits and nuts.
“Thanks.” You replied quickly while giving it a once over.
“It’s not poisoned” Paul laughed “when are you going to trust me?”
“Maybe when you tell me who the hell you are and how you know me.” You said as you take a tentative bite. Whatever it is, its pretty good. You began to inhale it, realizing how hungry you really were.
“I’m just like you, someone who pissed them off. Weapons deal gone bad, specifically. So here I am.” Paul replied stretching out his arms.
“How do you know who I am?” You questioned as Jo moved to sit in your lap with her own fruit and nuts. You squeezed her tightly.
Paul snorted “Who doesn’t know who you are, or at least your brother. Everyone has heard about that little incident.”
“Oh” you grumbled “just great. I should have figured. So how the hell did you find this cave, and figure out what’s edible in this hellhole in the span of a day?”
Paul was silent for a few moments as he stoked the fire. “I’ve been here before” he said finally.
“Come again?” You questioned, forgetting your breakfast for a moment.
“I was the winner of the last games.” Paul replied glumly “There is no escape, just this arena. You either keep winning and coming back over and over, or you die. Either way, there is no escaping, there is no going home.”
“This is wonderful news, here I was beginning to think the Romulans would be true to their word.” You replied sarcastically, rolling your eyes in disgust.
Jo looked pretty glum “what do we do now Y/N?”
“I don’t know Jo.” You said, letting out a large sigh “I don’t know…”
“Well you’ve really only got one option.” Paul replied.
You squeezed your eyes tight at his suggestion, you know he’s right. You were going to have to suck it up and just do it. Turn off everything in your mind but getting out alive. You couldn’t let Jo or yourself die in this hell hole.
“I know, you’re right.” You said as you nudged Jo off your lap so you could stand. Good god you needed to stretch.
“What’s the plan?” You asked, looking to Paul.
Jim was in his quarters, standing in the shower. He let the scalding water cascade down his back and face as it mixed with his hot tears. He had finally allowed himself to breakdown, he felt so lost. He wished he could be like Leonard, who probably hadn’t been sober for more than five minutes since you two were taken, but he had a ship to command.
Jim sighed and shut off the water just in time to hear his comm go off, he didn’t care. Jim slowly got out of the shower and dried himself off, while his comm went off yet again.
“Leave me the fuck alone!” Jim cursed as he rubbed his face and hair with a towel. He looked like hell, felt like it too. He hadn’t eaten, hadn’t slept since you two were taken. He and Leonard were complete wrecks and Jim didn’t know what they were going to do if he couldn’t find the two of you. He didn’t want to think about it.
Jim sighed and closed his eyes and placed his head on the mirror, tears prickled threateningly at the corners of his eyes. He forced himself not to cry anymore. He took a deep breath, as his comm rang yet again.
Getting angry, he stomped out of the bathroom and picked up his comm and answered it angrily, foregoing any pleasantries.
“What!?” Jim spat, clearly on edge and his nerves shot.
“Captain, your presence is requested on the bridge immediately.” Spock’s voice filled the room.
Jim pinched the bridge of his nose.
“What is it Spock?” Jim asked frustrated, he didn’t have the time nor the patience for guessing games.
“We found them, Jim.” was all Spock replied. Jim dropped his comm where he stood and put on the nearest clothes he could find and raced to the bridge.
Jim arrived on the bridge in no time flat. “Where?” was all Jim said in greeting.
“Kepler, Captain.” Spock replied.
“Kepler? The hell are they doing on Kepler?” Jim mumbled, glancing at the screen.
“They seem to have established a new colony there, Captain. Uhura was able to pinpoint around where the hail came from and we used the videos of Y/N to confirm that the terrain matched up. It’s a 91.6% match, Captain.” Spock stated, looking pretty proud of himself.
“That’s good enough for me, what are we waiting for? Get us to that planet Mister Sulu.” Jim ordered, plopping himself in his chair and going over all the new information they had found.
“Aye, Aye Captain. We should be there in approximately 8 hours, sir” Sulu replied, punching the throttle.
Jim groaned, “8 hours”? This was going to be an excruciatingly long wait.
“Bones” Jim thought suddenly. In his haste and excitement, he completely forgot to comm Leonard. He didn’t figure he would have answered anyway. He had holed himself in your room and refused to come out or talk to anyone. He’d have to go in person, he needed to check on him anyway.
Jim made his way to your quarters, punched in the door code and strode in quickly.
“Bones?” Jim yelled, almost knocked off his feet. It smelled like a damn brewery in here. Y/N was not going to be happy if she found out Leonard was drinking himself stupid.
“Bones, where the hell are you?” Jim called out once more. No reply, great. Jim made his way to your bedroom and saw Leonard lying on your bed, passed out with a couple empty bourbon bottle on the floor.
“Christ, Bones.” Jim murmured, his heart breaking for his friend. Jim made his way to the side of the bed and began shaking Leonards shoulder.
“Bones, wake up. Come on, up you get” Jim said “come on you idiot, wake up!”
Leonard just groaned in reply without moving a muscle or opening his eyes.
“The hell for?” Leonard said as his words slurred together.
“Jesus, are you still drunk? You know Y/N is going to murder you, right?” Jim asked as he took the covers and tossed them off the bed.
“The hell Jim?”  Leonard complained, almost looking like he wanted to murder Jim “leave me alone”
“No, you’re getting out of bed and taking a shower and that's an order.” Jim said using his Captain voice and continued to try to get Leonard up.
Leonard cracked his eyes open enough to glare at him before slowly making his way to getting up “I hate you, Jim.” Leonard said as he glared at Jim and rubbed his face.
“You won’t for long, now up.” Jim ordered again as he went to grab Leonards arm to help him up. Leonard swatted at his hands.
“Get off me.” Leonard grumped as he went to stand on his own, and began to sway dangerously on his feet. He had to grab Jim’s shoulder for support, Jim just smiled smugly at him.
“Shut up, Jim.” Leonard said as he let go of Jim’s shoulder and slowly made his way to the shower.
Leonard staggered into the bathroom as the door swished softly closed behind him. He walked over to the mirror and placed his hand on it to steady himself. He looked sidelong at his reflection in the mirror.
He looked like a complete wreck. His eyes were bloodshot and puffy, his face was getting a 5 o’clock shadow, and his hair was a complete wreck, sticking up all over the place. He didn’t care. You and Jo were god knows where and he was stuck on this god forsaken ship, helpless to do anything about it. He punched his reflection in glass in your bathroom full force, shattering it all over the floor, as sobs began to wrack his entire body as he slid down the cabinet onto the floor.
Jim came running into the bathroom “What the hell Bones? I heard..” as Jim looked down at the defeated, sobbing man on the bathroom floor, surrounded by glass, with his hands gripping his hair and blood dripping down his arm from his hand.
“Jesus Christ Bones, what the ever living fuck?” Jim exclaimed as he made his way over to Leonard, crunching on the glass as he made his way to his friend. He went to grab Leonards hand so he could get a better look at the damage. Leonard tried to yank it away.
“Bones, stop it, let me have a look.” Jim said sternly as he inspected Leonards hand closer “just looks like you cut it up pretty good, you might need a stitch or two.”
“I’m the doctor, I’ll be the judge of that, Jim.” Leonard replied, sharply yanking his hand away from Jim.
“Like hell, Bones. You aren’t fit to be the judge of anything right now. Now you are going to sober up and take a shower. Trying to destroy yourself isn’t helping anyone right now, least of all Y/N and Jo.” Jim said sternly “now let’s get your lushy ass up and into the shower”
Jim helped Leonard get undressed and into the shower, to make sure he wasn’t going to do anything else stupid. Once satisfied, Jim left Leonard to himself.
Leonard stood in the shower, letting the water run over his front, and down his arms. He watched as the water mixed with the blood from his knuckles and swirl down the drain. The pain of the water washing over the cuts on his knuckles helped sober him up.
He knew that Jim was right, what he was doing was stupid. He just couldn’t seem to find it in him to care. He lifted his bloody knuckles and pressed it against the shower wall, hard. He winced as tears streamed down his cheeks, relishing the pain.
“God dammit.” he hissed “I hate it when Jim is right.” He needed to start caring, he had to think about you and Jo first.
He dunked his head in the water and let the scalding water run over the back of his head, washing away his tears and blood. He grabbed your shampoo and he poured it in his hands. It smelled like you, and it comforted him as he slowly started lathering it on his head.
Leonard finished up and slowly made his way out of the shower and grabbed a towel and dried himself off. Leonard glanced in what was left of the broken mirror and decided he looked somewhat better now.
Leonard rummaged around in your cabinets, where he knew you kept a med kit. He opened it up and took out some antiseptic and some gauze and began to wrap up his seeping hand. Leonard winced as he wrapped the dressing tight, but he welcomed the pain once more, craved it. It kept his mind at ease from the dark abyss that was ever present on the edge of his thoughts.
Leonard padded out of the bathroom to grab a spare set of clothes that he and Jim both kept in your place, in case they ever fell asleep on your couch. He quickly threw the clothes on and headed out to the living room with Jim.
Jim was waiting on Leonard with a cup of coffee. He handed it to him as he made his way to the couch.
“Thanks.” Leonard said “I hope there's liquor in this.” as he took the coffee with his good hand.
“No more liquor for you Bones, I mean it.” Jim ordered, crossing his arms.
“Yes, mother.” Leonard replied, as he took a sip “Oh, god, real coffee” as he savored another sip “So what the hell is so important, Jim?”
“We found them, Bones.” Jim said simply, relaxing his stance.  It took Leonards bourbon soaked brain a few extra seconds to process what Jim had just said. Jim saw the glint in his eyes when the gears finally clicked.
“YOU WHAT?” Leonard roared, almost spilling his coffee everywhere “When? Where? How?” Leonard was in high gear now.
“Easy Bones, we traced them from…” Jim trailed off. He wasn’t sure he wanted to tell Leonard about the video that he had watched, that he had been watching ever since Ajek hailed you. With the fragile state his friend was in, he decided against it.
“..from the call when Ajek hailed the ship. A planet called Kepler. We should be there in about seven hours now”
Leonard just nodded his head in response and let out a huge sigh and ran his hand through his damp hair, making it stick up all over the place. He sat back down with his arms on his legs, rubbing his hands up and down their length, and staring at his coffee cup.
“Are they even...?” Leonard trailed off, not able to even say the word.
“We don’t know. they had better be, or else Ajek will pay dearly. Come on Leonard, we’ve got work to do. You need to go to med bay and get a hangover cure or something and get that hand looked at. You really do look awful” Jim grimaced.
“Thanks a lot kid.” Leonard rolled his eyes but got up from the couch to make his way to medical.
He felt somewhat better from the news, you and Jo were found. He just hoped you were both okay, still scared to death of the alternative, to possibly living in a world without one or both of you in it. He couldn’t live with himself if something were to happen to either of you, before he could confess his feelings to you, before he could make it up to Jo for being an absent father. He shook his head and forced the thoughts out of his mind. They would find the two of you and he would finally tell you how he felt, then he would never let you or Jo out of his sight ever again.

2,364 word(s) of angsty, sad goodness.
Chapter 1 - Chapter 2

Jim sat in his Captain’s chair, wound up tight, barely hearing all the commotion around him. He had all the crew looking and listening to anything and everything that could possible give him a hint or a clue as to where you and Jo had been taken.
“Were being hailed Captain” Uhura exclaimed as she punched away at a few buttons.
“On screen” Jim ordered, tearing his face away from his hands to glace up.
The face of the Romulan who took you captive filled the screen. Jims eyes narrowed with anger.
“Greetings, Captain Kirk. So nice to finally meet you.” Ajek said, giving Jim a smirk.
“Where is my sister?” Jim asked frostily, gritting his teeth.
“Ah, straight to the point I see. Well, no need to leave you suffering. Your sister is suffering plenty enough for you both.” Ajek said as his face disappeared from the screen and video of everything you’ve been through so far began to flash on the screen.
From Kujeth cracking you in the head, to being roughly examined, to being chained up in the middle of the forest, to you attacking the man, to running from the wolves, to you finally flinging yourself and Jo over the cliff. The video feed cut out and Ajek’s face came back on screen.
Jim didn’t realize he had stopped breathing and his fingers were dug into the chair so deep, that they started to leave marks. His lungs were screaming for oxygen as he struggled to take in breaths, trying not to make it obvious. He had to keep it together.
“As you can see Captain, she is still alive, at least I assume. That tumble off the cliff did look like a long way down” Ajek sneered, trying his best to dig into Jim.
“Who the hell are you and why are you doing this to my sister?” Jim eyed him, barely keeping himself contained.
“Your sister asked the same thing, Captain. I’ll save you the agony of waiting and get on with it. My name is Ajek, but you might be more familiar with my father… Nero.” Ajek finished, reveling in the hushed silence that fell across the bridge.
There was a pregnant pause before Jim leapt up from his chair, yelling.
“You sick son of a bitch! This is about revenge isn’t it?! We offered your father help and he refused! It wasn’t our fault he chose to die rather than swallow his pride. My sister has nothing to do with his decision or his death” Jim spat venomously, hands resting on the back of his chair for support, chest heaving after his outburst.
“Captain…” Spock said quietly, coming in slowly to Jim’s side.
That was all he needed to say to get Jim to realize that he needed to calm down. Jim came back over and sat down in his chair heavily, still trying to catch his breath.
“That doesn’t change the fact that you let him die, Captain. He’s still dead because of you, is he not? You took away everything from me on that ship. Now I have everything important to you!” Ajek sneered “You will watch her suffer until the end. I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to it. Until next time, Captain.” Ajek’s face disappeared as the video cut off suddenly.
The bridge was grave silent as they either continued to stare at the screen or stare at the Captain waiting for instructions. Jim sat there staring at the screen before he snapped out of it.
“Trace that call, run algorithms on it, do whatever you need to do. I don’t care what it takes, you find out where that came from. That’s an order”
The bridge came to life with a bunch of “yes Captains, right away Captains” as people returned to their stations.
Jim was still planted firmly in his seat, trying his hardest to keep it all under control, failing miserably. He didn’t even notice when Spock came to stand beside him.
“Captain” Spock began cautiously. He placed a hand on Jim’s shoulder lightly. So lightly that if Jim wasn’t seeing it, he wouldn’t have realized it was there. Jim sat there, staring at the screen where you and Jo were seconds before, barely able to breathe, his mind reeling.
“We will find them, Jim”. Spock promised quietly, staring at his friend in concern.
“You have the conn, mister Spock.” Jim said quickly as he shot up out of his chair and made his way off the bridge.
Leonard. He needed to find Leonard.
Jim had been searching and trying to comm Leonard for an hour to no avail, giving him the time to cool off before he had this talk with him.
“Where the hell are you, Bones?” Jim muttered to himself. Suddenly he had an epiphany. Jim about faced and headed quickly down the hall. He stopped abruptly and punched in the code on the keypad.
As the door to your quarters opened, Jim could see Leonard sitting at the kitchen counter, staring at a tumbler filled to the brim with bourbon.
Jim made his way inside and approached Leonard. “Jesus Bones, how much have you had?” Jim asked eyeing the empty bottles on top of the counter.
“Not nearly enough.” Leonard mumbled, slurring his words, his drawl out in full force.
“Well I think you’ve had enough for now.” Jim said softly as he moved the glass and pitcher slightly out of Leonards reach. Leonard made no movement to protest, only staring at the now vacant spot the pitcher previously occupied.
“Talk to me Bones, what’s on your mind?” Jim asked sincerely, trying to get his friend to look at him.
“You don’t wanna know Jim.” Leonard replied, refusing to look Jim in the face.
“Sure I do. Let it all out, It’ll be good for you.” Jim told him. Leonard said nothing at first and only steeled his gaze at the counter.
“Where the fuck do I start, Jim? I just lost my daughter, she wasn’t even here 12 hours and she gets kidnapped! What kind of father lets that happen?! God dammit, Jocelyn is going to kill me, Jim!” Leonard yelled, then paused for a moment and continued in a hushed cracking voice “Joce is never going to let me see my little girl ever again, Jim.” Leonard finally finished, slouching his shoulders forward in defeat.
“Like hell you won’t, Bones. Joce will have to get through me and Y/N first if she even thinks about taking Jo away from you” Jim said threateningly “Y/N would murder her, she already hates her guts anyway. That would just give her a good excuse”
“What about Y/N, Jim?” Leonard asked quietly, changing the subject. Jim sighed and rubbed his face with his hands.
“Despite my obvious calm, cool, and collected exterior, I’m about to lose my fucking mind Bones. Were all each others got and I swear to God, if they hurt her or Jo…” Jim trailed off, taking Leonards grim demeanor into consideration.
“Bones, if anyone can protect Jo, its Y/N. You should be glad that she’s with her” Jim said, changing directions.
“Why is that, Jim?” Leonard asked, still looking the complete opposite of glad. Jim sat down next to Leonard, not looking forward to this conversation.
“I know I’ve told you some of our past, but never any details” Jim started, wringing his hands slightly.
“Details of what?” Leonard asked, finally looking over to Jim, knowing where this was probably headed.
“Tarsus IV.” Jim said quietly “this is going to require a lot of alcohol...” he trailed off as he made to grab  Leonards full tumbler. Leonard sat in silence as Jim drained the glass in a few long pulls. He sat the glass down softly and refilled it, placing it back in front of Leonard. Leonard ignored it, giving Jim his full attention.
“You know the surface details, all the stuff in the news and the articles. What you don’t know is the lengths we had to go to to survive. Jim said as he began to stare at the place Leonard was staring at previously, trying not to concentrate too much on what he was saying.
“They had put us all in a group, all the children. The ones who were too young to be of any good, just a waste of resources. They led us out into the woods, and we knew what was coming. We had heard the previous screams and gunfire, despite them trying to keep us separated in a building. As they led us out into the woods, Y/N and I made a break for it, a few of the other kids followed our lead. Thankfully it was getting dark so it was hard to see, but still some of us didn’t make it” Jim closed his eyes trying to keep it together, taking a breath before he continued.
“We were out there for two months, give or take. Y/N was the only girl and the youngest to make it in our little group of eight. She had to work twice as hard for everything, fighting, hunting, climbing, getting enough to eat, you name it”
Leonard was completely silent, eyes wide, barely daring himself to breathe. Jim and Y/N never talked about Tarsus IV, and here Jim was, spilling his guts, trying to make him feel better. He felt a twinge of guilt but decided to ignore it. He wanted to know, he needed to know.
“And boy did she ever. The first month was hard, we barely had enough to eat, almost froze to death multiple nights, or almost eaten by predators. The other kids would pick fights with Y/N over food, sleeping space, anything and everything. Even though it sucked, it ended up helping us, by the end of the first month, Y/N could outfight any of the others, hunt better than any of them, and climb trees faster than anyone. That’s when we decided to go off on our own, and spent the last month just the two of us. Y/N kept us both alive for the most part, Bones” Jim paused, staring vaguely in the distance, as if in another place.
“Jim...” Leonard said softly, trying to bring Jim back to himself.
“Sorry Bones, that’s enough of that” Jim said crisply, making it clear that the subject was closed “so Bones, if anyone can take care of Jojo, and keep her safe, its Y/N. She would do anything for that little girl” Jim finished, grabbing Leonard’s ignored glass and downing it in one long pull.
“I know, that’s what I’m afraid of Jim.”  Leonard replied softly, picking at the edge of a mat on the counter.
“What do you mean?” Jim looked up at Bones confused, sitting the glass down softly.
For a moment Leonard didn’t answer. When he finally went to speak, his lips parted but no words came out.
“Spit it out, Bones” Jim encouraged.
Leonard sucked in a deep, jagged breath. “I love her, Jim” Leonard finally spat out, looking Jim in the eyes.
“YOU WHAT!?” Jim’s eyes went wide in shock, practically leaping out of his chair.
“I love her, Jim.” Leonard repeated, the words tumbling out more freely this time.
“HOW, WHEN, WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME?!” Jim proceeded to flip out, trying to think back and figure out when this all started and how the hell he seemed to miss it.
“Jim, calm down, please.” Leonard asked softly. Jim placed his hands on the back of the chair and lowered his forehead to rest on the edge of it.
“You love my sister?” Jim suddenly calm, lifting his head and slowly allowing a glare to overcome his eyes.
“Yes Jim, I do. I have for a while, mostly since working together in med bay. There’s just something about her, Jim. She’s like my rock. She keeps me calm, cool and collected when all I want to do is freak out. She makes me feel more like myself when I’m with her, more than I have in years. I don’t know what I’d do without her. I don’t know what I’ll do if we can’t get her back Jim, or Jo. I can’t lose them… My baby girl... I can’t…” Leonard confessed as a tear fell down his cheek, giving him the most heartbreaking look that Jim had ever seen on his face.
Any anger that he had for his best friend falling in love with his sister, immediately dissolved. If anyone deserved his sister, hell, it was Leonard. Jim poured Leonard another glass and handed it to him. Leonard took this one without question and quickly downed it.
“We’re going to get them back, Bones. I swear to you, we’re going to get them back” Jim said resolved “The whole crew is working on it. We all want them back”. Leonard just sat there and wiped his cheek with his hand.
“Alright, Bones. I’m cutting you off for the night” Jim said as he took the tumbler from Leonards hand.
“I know, you’re right, Jim” Leonard said defeated, not even arguing with Jim.
“Want me to walk you to your quarters?” Jim asked, moving to help Leonard stand.
“No” Leonard said quickly “I’d like to stay here”
Not having the heart to refuse his friend, Jim just nodded in agreement. “Alright Bones, go get some rest. I’m going back to the bridge to see if anyone has found anything yet.”
Leonard only nodded in reply as Jim clasped his hand on his shoulder and gave it a slight squeeze.
“Hang in there Bones.” Jim said softly as he turned to leave and headed back to the bridge.
As the doors swished closed quietly, Leonard let out a large sigh and took a look around your empty quarters. Tears prickled at his eyes once more as he ran his hand over the back of the couch, where you all sat barely two days prior.
Leonard lowered his head in silent defeat as he rubbed his face with his hands as he staggered into your bedroom, maybe he did have enough he thought, as he leaned against the door frame for support. He slowly made his way over and crawled into your bed. He traced his hand over the sheets where you usually lay, still ruffled slightly from where you had slept last before leaving the ship.
Leonard looked over to your end table and saw Joanna’s favorite teddy bear that he got her for her fourth birthday sticking out of her backpack. He reached out for it and took it in his hands, looking into the teddy bears eyes for a few moments. He then placed his hand on the teddy bear’s head, feeling its softness, and closed his eyes. He pulled it close to him, squeezing it tightly, as the tears finally began to fall and soak into its soft fur. He buried his head in your pillow and inhaled deeply, letting your soft scent calm his frazzled and bourbon soaked mind as he slowly drifted off into a restless sleep.
