my oc, cricin, is an elf lady that spent her entire life in a tower, raised and supervised by an animated skeleton she thinks of as her mother. she is lowkey inspired by rapunzel except combined with my never ending love for necromancy

anyway, the tower belongs to a Very Very Very old master necromancer and great mage in general. she is obsessed with power AND beauty, so she keeps herself alive, beautiful and powerful by taking over bodies of young elven ladies. so, the tower pretends to be a small school, and she kidnaps infant elven ladies to raise them into perfect vessels. they all get a magic circle engraved in their body that ensures no matter how they look like, they will grow up looking exactly like the necromancer lady. but! in her original first life before she got committed to black magic and stuff, she was a tallman, not an elf. so thats why all her vessels have black hair even though its not an elf thing. its the magic!!!!!

(lady necromancer decided to use elves for her body farm since the vessels are long lived so she doesnt have to keep an eye on too many at a time, lol)

anyway, cricin is one of the vessels and she finds out about the whole plot at one point and decides to get help so someone saves all the girls and defeats the necromancer. to do so, she uses some kind of astral projection/soul splitting magic that causes her to be able to leave the tower and venture into the world as like... a ghost but with more substance and magic?

theres a lot of more plot because ive had many no mithrun Thursdays to contemplate, but the tl dr is that she forms a party with a couple of canon dunmeshi charas to conquer the tower and defeat the evil lord questline go on and learn about people and the world shes never heard of before. after everything is settled and cricin has both her body and freedom, she decides to travel some to experience the world with her own senses, and managed to convince mithrun to go with her. cue the romance storyline. happily ever after or something, i believe in them

when discussing gwens transcoding i feel like people dont talk about how her being spider women is literally viewed as politics from the start.

people talk about her and the validity of her actions and choices in front of her even before peters death. her dad specifically questions how she dresses. why she need to hide behind a mask. the spider suit was made to hide the identity of the wearer yes but for gwen stacys spider woman thats always been different, even in the comics.

presenting the way she does keeps her safe when she’s gwen stacy but it also represents the choices she makes. her work as spider woman. its her badge. this line is something that always stuck with me in the comics and i love that they didn’t change it in the movie. her suit and mask are not hiding who she is, theyre an extension of it.

being trans makes how you present yourself very complicated at least in my experience. youre constantly worried around new people and strangers, do they think i look like a boy or a girl? am i passing? if im not passing am i safe? its really complicated, passing doesnt make you more or less valid but a lot of society views it that way and how people see you can change how safe you are. these things are nuanced is what im saying and i like how gwen is allowed to do what feels right for her regardless of what others think.

another point is how shes met with violence when she first essentially “comes out” as spider woman. even though its a loved one, her dad doesnt take it well. because of his duty to society he feels he cant accept her as spider woman.

so she has to run away from home. live with the people who do make her feel at home, her own band as she puts it. and only then, when she’s is able to stand on her own does she face her dad.

they both needed time. to work on themselves. and something important is that he stops being a cop. stops this duty he feels he owes to society to get rid of spider woman to protect their children.

only when he takes time to truly understand her perspective and actions is he able to accept her.

as trans people our identities are constantly considered something cis people and the government get to determine. but with spiderverse we see gwens story as being portrayed as a villian by society. we see it from her perspective. not her dads perspective. not miles, an outsiders perspective who has to come and fix everything. her own perspective. and in the end she doesnt want society to accept her. she just needs her dad. her loved ones. because shes never given a damn about outsiders, there’s never a focus on how some random j jonah jameson feels about her. they instead focus on her dad. because he is who hurts her. and for me at least that’s very relatable.

spider man in general is a very trans subject because society hates him and he has to disguise himself to stay safe. but gwen stacy as ghost spider or spider woman really stands out to me. because it feels so much more personal to get to spectate her life. she’s so real, so human. and that is essence of what makes a spidey.

I’m not usually the type to post propaganda, specially when my boy already has a pretty big chance at winning, but I can’t help but want to point out that “a lot more happened also” is a HUGE. huge understatement here. So here’s an list of things that also happened to Nico, since that first propaganda only encompasses his backstory and his second book appearance

Firstly, after exiting the hotel into the early 2000s America after having been raised in pre-WWII Italy, his older sister and only live family members makes a choice to join an all-girls fighter group lead by Artemis, leaving Nico without family to count on and at the mercy of the strangers (ily Bianca but you understand how that hurt him greatly)

After Bianca dies on a quest, he begins his quest to summon her ghost, where he is then manipulated by the ghostly King Minos to do his bidding. Only when he is rescued by Percy does he succeed in summoning Bianca, at which point she tells him she was deliberately ignoring his summons in hopes he’d move on, and was only there bc Percy needed her (ily Bianca but you can understand how that hurt him greatly)

Nico is cast out from Camp for being the son of Hades (or, well, he says so, but iirc that might have just been the depression talking), and he spends his time in the underworld, where he resolves to at the very least contact his mother. He does this by striking a deal with Hades, involving and endangering Percy at a time of crisis, leading to a rift forming between Nico and the last living person who cared about him.

Does he at least succeed at finding his mom? Well, after messing up his last remaining relationship, he only ends up being told that his mother’s ghost is entirely out of reach, and finding out that she was killed by Zeus because of Nico and Bianca’s very existence… So, uh, no.

Years later, in trying to help Percy and his new half-sister (long story) battle against a new threat, he ends up falling into the pits of Tartarus- literal greek super hell holy shit. All alone, he is captured by giants shortly thereafter, who keep him in a fucking jar for an indefinite amount of time (week or more) where he is left to survive off pomegranate seeds on the off-chance someone, anyone, would save him. When he is finally rescued, his eyes are said to resemble broken glass.

That doesnt stop him from continuing to try to help though! The grind never stops! Starved half-to-death and traumatized yet he’s still kicking.

It’s also worth mentioning that at some point during all of this, he realized he was gay! Crushing on Percy, who if you recall, was now very much wary of Nico. This realization can be really scary for any teen, but specially for the ones raised in pre-WWII Italy. We only find out about this crush when he forced to come out by the god of love Eros, leaving him vulnerable in front of a total stranger (but thankfully Jason was a bro).

Where does that lead us? The end of the battle, where Nico has been running on fumes for so long without letting anyone know that his powers are beginning to consume him, leaving him at risk of fading away forever. He would have died in silence, without his new sister, nor Percy, Jason, nor anyone ever knowing why, had he not found a group of people to pick him back up right in the nick of time.

There’s one more book series but tbh Nico’s doing pretty fine and dandy in that one, recovering just fine. But, I believe there is a new book coming out that places him and his new boyfriend Will (among the people who helped him get back up in the end) in a whole new kind of danger.

16: If you could change anything in the show, what would you change?

okay so how i would re-do CANON is completely different from how i would talk abt a reboot so im gonna touch on a couple things in both contexts! the reason for the difference is canon rewrites imply i can go back in time and introduce dp fresh and new, before anyone knows what it is; but for a reboot, id be working with an audience that has a better understanding of the source material, so i dont need to spend as much time explaining, but i also need to keep everything recognizable

REWRITE: i would def make it more danny's fault that her dad lost his job, like danny was intentionally being reckless and shattered some security stuff, and he has a whole mini lesson about learning to not just run in guns blazing. i would probably remove the dating stuff with her and danny (and tuckers crush) too, I think them wanting to be good friends is good enough for freshman year

REBOOT: the fandom already knows valerie exists, so i would actually skip the whole shades-of-gray introductory episode and have her be present as the huntress from day 1-- probably even before danny got his powers. cujo is also HER dog, and her backstory-- we'd find out in like, season 1, that a natural ghost portal (maybe one wulf opened) ripped open on her dog and killed him, and since then shes had a vendetta against ghosts cause of how reckless they are and their disregard for life-- of course, cujo isnt actually dead. cujo is a halfa. a puby halfa. anyway instead of a hoverboard she actually rides cujo around cause he can fly and its big and epic. valerie has BEEN amity parks ghost-eradicating superhero for at least a year (tho shes been in the shadows abt it) and her hatred towards danny actually just becomes really petty, like them flying next to each other chasing skulker just going "I got this. no I got this. no I got this" and they just get in each others' way and its a mutual grudge.

BOTH: i am NOT keeping in vlad giving her the suit to watch danny under any circumstances. it was only utilized half assedly in canon (when vlad couldve just had an invisible duplicate watching him instead) anyway, and I dont have any reason to keep it in a reboot either. instead i want her tech to be a combination of half-stolen and half-gerryrigged stuff and she slowly slowly learns how to build her own.

I also dont want anyone knowing her secret identity, except maybe her dad, and sam or tucker. i think it works better if danny isnt privy to this magic info

Freakshow

REWRITE: i would honestly just remove him. the episodes hes in arent particularly interesting, theyre just generic "we need a plot about x" filler and he's not compelling enough a character (at least in writing) to carry a better plot that another antagonist couldnt. i'm serious

REBOOT: unfortunately in a reboot he's gonna have to pop up somewhere or else ppl will be like "where IS HE" so I'm going to stick with running some kind of ghost circus, maybe a few occult things, but cut out a lot of the spooky magical knowledge and mcguffin stuff. maybe i could make him like, someone from vlad/jack/maddies college who always felt pushed around by them and so he has a vendetta? and theyd be the only reason he even learned abt ghosts in the first place. idk in either way I want to force him into being irredeemable but also include LYDIA (the tattoo girl ghost) way more-- I want to give her an arc that ends in her tossing freakshow aside and running off to be a ghost vigilante.

BOTH: dear god the infinity gauntlet is stupid that needs to GO AWAY. especially for the reboot cause it would exist in a post-mcu world and way too many people would complain about it

REWRITE: amp him up to a far more sinister and villainous character. the crushing on maddie isnt enough, I want to show him on-screen performing experiments on ghosts and himself, dismissing everyone else cause he thinks hes smarter than them. i want him to be actively sabotaging the fentons at every turn. i would also clarify that he doesnt actually want danny as a son, but as a trophy-- a line where danny says something along the lines of "you don't want a son. you want a slave". i want to make him a character who wants to destroy the entire planet and put it in the ghost zone so he can be the true ghost king and i want to make this all evident from day one. if i'm writing a series villain you can bet i'm going to write a GOOD one. less petty drama here and more actual stakes.

REBOOT: it seems silly but sense with reboot we have the benefit of hindsight and recognizing that vlad wasn't a big series villain, theres no way i'd actually go back and write him to be such. for starters, of course, theres the fact that anything he does would really be an exaggerated part of the original, and it would bore an audience to see the same story again-- theres also the fact that it doesnt seem right to take a character who was treated as a joke half the time and suddenly make them big and important. no, instead for my reboot i want to lean into the petty gay uncle vibe. he had a crush on jack and now just casually insults him. he moves mansions every now and again by just haunting the family who lives in the one he wants, and taking over-- i mean, who is gonna believe that an actual ghost haunted you. he dislikes danny not because he has some concept of 'evil' and 'good' but bc danny is just too damn active. of course he actually does care about danny and his safety deep down, it's just on the surface they have very conflicting motivations-- not to mention that danny has been raised on legends from his parents of the villainous Wisconsin Ghost, who has to be stopped at all costs.

BOTH: i want jack and maddie to KNOW he's a half ghost and to actively be hunting him down for it, maybe bc they think hes possessed, or been a ghost tricking them this whole time, or the victim of a tragic lab accident who needs to be put to rest, etc. whatever the case it will give vlad actual tangible reason to despise them and genuinely suspect they dont have dannys best interests at heart. i think it would be neat if vlad was cynical and every time danny hit him with the "I'll expose us both. at least theyll still love ME" vlad could be like in the back of his head "oh god theyre going to kill this child"

REWRITE: cut her out. we don't need her character at all. maybe replace her with a more ominous shadow duplicate / clone that actually looks like danny himself and doesnt really have a name? you could probably combine her and dark dans characters for their arcs

REBOOT: instead of a clone from vlad, she's a guys in white creation using some of dannys dna after he was captured (and vlad broke him out bc he was like "ugh i guess i have to save this child")

BOTH: vlad actually cares abt her (duh), shes nonbinary (double duh), she gets the funny dissolve into goo powers

We've been doing that for (2) seasons, I'd love if season 3 could be like, his parents adjusting to this and trying way harder to learn more and accept it (and the shenanigans that could come from that) and for fun, if he didn't wipe the students memories, it could be him being popular for a while, then everyone slowly realizing, oh, he's still Danny. Like. he might have ghost powers but hes Just The Same Guy instead of putting him on a pedestal (and seeing them all try and help him hide it from the giw/people who don't know!!)

You didnt turned around to face Chris ,so you missed the glossy eyes once again that fought back a tear .

You resumes you beating, acting as if you didnt hear Chris

"What . ARE . You . Playing. At !" You said in between the smacks across Scott's head

"Ha ! Ha ! Stop " he put his hands in defence

“why did you do that . i dont have a ..”

Time had passed on ever so slowly for your point of view  , but you had to stay to show how happy you are for the future Mr and Mrs Evans . Staying around the whole day was hard , watching Chris with Minka broke your heart a little more . But surprisingly  it hasn't been as hard as you thought , you have actual found your self laughing a couple of times and forgetting why you are here . This might just be the beginning of a slow healing process that will never truly be healed but at least able for you to move on with your life , or maybe its because you have the best-est friend in Scott who for his own reason which you dont fully understand doesnt want to be here to as much as you .There for making it bearable for the both of you with his bad jokes , like really there terrible  but you love him all the same    .

you were currently in the kitchen getting a glass of water , as an attempt to sober your self up , before you leave .

you let the water run into the glass , once full your bring it to your  lips ,sipping it as you turned around , not quite leaving the sink yet  , contracting on the ice cold feeling run down your throat . “well im sorry “ you whisper shyly , not making eye contact as you tried to get passed him , untill he placed his hand on your upper arm .

“for what the water , or avoiding me ?” he asked , you didnt need to look at him , you could hear the sadness 

“w..what ? i dont know what your talking about im here aint i “ you finally  looked up , it was then you relied how close the two of you were .

“then what ?” you asked confused , generally

he took a deep sigh and stepped even closer to you 

“you've been avoiding me , my calls , texts ..” he sounded like a sad child 

“iv been busy “ you tried to say over him

“i havnt seen you in 2 weeks or so “ he continued looking down , ignoring what you just said “ you havnt spoken to me all day , barley looked my way “ his eyes meet your “ and then i hear ... “ he pause bring his parm to your cheek “ and then i hear you have someone “

You couldn't breath the moment he touched your cheek , your breath was stolen , you could feel the heat raising  to your cheeks , burning under his touch . You almost missed what he said , and if your breath wasnt already gone it would be .

“why is he bothered ? , maybe this is why Scott did this , to see how chris would react ? but why would Chris react? his getting married , and why would Scott care ?”

you backed up till your back reached the sink , all to be followed as once again Chris comes back into the personal space .

“ i...it ..” you didnt know what to say , but your curiosity was wining as you couldnt think straight so you decide to go along with what you think could be Scotts , “you need to ask him later “ you  made a mental note “ why would you care anyway “

“because “  he sighed leaning in

things ive already established r on this post

besties this got so fucking long but heres a giant ramble about cherri

okay so. there are huge differences betwn cherri as a hyperviolent drac hunter and cherri as a friend of the four and cherri as the girls mentor. with the first one he was 17 and desperate to distance himself from his upbringing so he went all in on Being A Killjoy. he was always one of the first ppl to rush into a fight and he fought hard. he blew up his fuckin hand with that attitude. and all the while he was just racking up more unaddressed trauma and eventually he ran away from that, too. giving himself radiation poisoning was more appealing than facing his problems.

so as a teenager/young adult hes kind of constantly in a panicked state. hes scared the people from his past are going to find him and drag him back with them. so he lashes out and he runs away over and over again.

i said in another post that he has some past life shit goin on which usually would give him a connection to the witch that manifests early in life, but with all the stuff hes gone through he has been Preoccupied. he can become oblivious to almost anything that doesnt apply to whatever hes focused on. not in a hyperfocus way its likeeeeee. when u live on survival mode during prolonged periods of stress. hes immune to magic bullshit bc hes too tired and scared.

anyways around his mid-20s he finally has a little more stability (as much as the average person living in the zones can have, that is) and he finally notices that Weird Stuff happens around him. basically: out of my list of Powers People Connected To The Witch Have he has the prophetic dreams/enhanced intuition as well as a form of sensing ghosts where he can see auras and kind of like, echoes of past events in ppls lives. that look like auras. itz complicated and not of utmost importance so im leaving it at that.

anyways thats what makes him start writing poetry. just 4 funsies he'll describe his weird experiences and embellish them to make em pretty. just as a casual hobby n all that.

he would forget fun ghoul in between the times they ran into each other but its pretty easy to be reminded of who fun ghoul is. the most insane 10 year old cherri has ever met. cherri isnt a brother figure to ghoul. hes just. his friend that happens to be more than twice his age. its whatever lmao

to cherri, ghoul is kinda like a stray animal he keeps seeing. which is hilarious. ghoul actually goes and finds him to introduce him to jet when they start running together, and cherri meets party and kobra (spark and birdie at the time) when he drives the four of them to a party. because he has a truck hell yeah. so now instead of one stray animal he has, like, a feral cat colony that he drives around occasionally. i have no real-life human relationship equivalent to them because irl if some guy that is not related to any of you and isnt even a childhood or family friend and theyre hanging out with you? they are usually not a safe person lmao. but this is my fantasy land and im too stubborn to change anyones birth years even though ghoul being born in 2004 makes everything really hard to make not creepy.

so yeah hes a casual somewhat friend of the fab four. hed probably get more and more concerned as they got famous. the beginnings of any sort of protective feelings, awww :) that sets him up for becoming the girls mentor.

OH FUCK. THE GIRL..... i think if i was in my late 20s and i heard that the gang of 13-17 year olds had adopted a 5 year old kid i would go bananas. what the fuck. it is a LONG while before cherri meets her. but he has the strongest affection for ghoul (if you could even call it that) and ghoul absolutely adores the girl and swings her around under her arms like a cat to show her off to cherri and its very endearing and the girl is sweet and funny so its easy to be around her. and (unfortunately) she is somewhat used to interacting with weird easily agitated people so she kinda gives him space. cherri isnt quite the uncle figure the fandom usually makes him (i luv uncle cherri sm but he simply cannot exist in the universe ive created, f), but hes a little similar.

and then the four had to go and pretend to die. lol.

when the girl was kidnapped, fucking everyone who knew her was ready to storm the city then and there. like regardless of how little you knew her, if you had ever met her you would fucking die for her. she is pure childish charisma and shes precious. i love the girl. so cherris immediately on board with whatever plan the four make to get her back. ive already talked abt how it fucked up the girl tho; there was no way to tell her that the four werent actually dead, she sees the building collapse and she shuts down. and cherri has to fight against his instinct to leave the radio station and never come back when he sees an eight year old girl sitting dissociated on the couch. that fucks everyone up.

i just realized i havent talked about literally anyone else at the radio station. i think cherri started lingering around the station bc it was safe and sheltered while also not being a popular spot. there are less kids there (people pass through but its not a hangout spot). he was kind of just hanging around to get away from the heat and noise and dr d took notice. because that man can see ur soul and no one knows if thats literal or not. so theyd chat a few times a day and show pony was the one 2 get him out of his shell a little and also was the first one he mentioned his poetry hobby to. im making this all up right now as im writing bc i dont know anything about LITERALLY any of the ppl associated w the radio like im not even going 2 try with chimp n newsie i do not have the willpower to tackle all that. justttt. cherri pony n D become bros and live 2gether there.

back 2 the regular timeline. the rescue mission happens in 2019. the girl lives at the station until 2023. during that time she is very much depressed and withdrawn and is only happy when the four come to visit. none of the Adults know how to help her so they just keep her safe and cared for and hope she'll open up to them.

she does not. she takes the weird cat thats been hanging around and she runs away.

cherri does not see her for three years. shes still worse for wear in the mental health department and he can see all kinds of visions of what shes been through since the last time he saw her and he fucking hates the ultra vs bc they remind him of his past. he does not want her going down that path but its obvious that she isnt crazy abt the ultraviolence thing either so thats a relief.

they have a kind of tense relationship throughout the comics. he feels like he failed her and that spirals into feeling like he failed the four for not being a good adult to them and fun ghoul for not helping enough when his commune was bombed and all kinds of shit and that irrational thinking mixed with plain old, yknow, caring about the girl, is what makes him take a bullet (laser. whatever) for her.

i was trying to figure out the timing of each of their ghost experiences, but i want both of them to talk to the witch and im just gonna make it like dreams where a whole buncha stuff happens but irl its been like seconds. so its like barely a second while the girl has her Witch Convo and cherri FINALLY gets a straight answer, yes there is weird shit going on with him having powers. he doesnt have any story-significant past lives because im lazy, hes just an old soul. like really fuckin old. the amount of latent life experience and stuff his soul/energy/whatever has picked up along the way makes him VERY noticeable to gods n stuff. he fuckin lights up all the alarms like what the FUCK is that over there. she wasnt rly able to get to him or even properly notice him while he was a kid and a young adult so shes happy to finally see him again. he has a STRONG sense of familiarity with her. they know each other on a wild ass level that he cant really comprehend.

Ummmm The lsit wasn’t full full cuz like I have some AUs tied into others and some I’ve made since then... Like i have a number of Aus I don’t talk about since they are mostly JUST RuClipse focus like I have a Kelpie AU in which Arulius is a Kelpie who’s been trying to eat Eclipse since she was a child but winds up falling for her when she’s older because she’s facinating and eventually starts staying with her because humans age too fast. I also have a Red Riding Hood AU that’s cute fluff. Plus my Fairy Cinderella one.

IDK an exact number tbh I’d have to like. Sit and count.  I just like to write them cuz it’s relaxing and I really need that (like man i need relaxing... i had a break down at my day job and my manager had to drive me home by force cuz I wanted to keep working----but that’s because im a severe workaholic with some trauma involved with perfectionism)

Which are my focus/most lore

Right now it’s @eclipseofthehat that’s a big one!!! I’ve been working a lot on the comic scripts and figuring that plot out since I consider that AU kinda my “hub” Au in which everything else is the AU of if that makes sense?

Other than that I’m slightly obsessed with the Nutcracker AU and the Triassic Planet AU but I’m not the main writer on those so I can’t do much lore there.

Well I’m making a shit ton of angst in the Triassic Planet AU but that’s cuz Gin  is as angst fueled as I am.

The thing with me is I get inspired off pretty much anything and can come up with a full damn lore plot in a matter of hours.

Sometimes I go ham on them and they become full-fledged things (like the Lamia AU i have was based off of the simple fact of I was watching Anime, a lamia showed up and I went ‘hey what if’ and now I wrote about 7 short chapters i need to finish) or I just do a snippet (the phantom of the opera au. Like i do have the full plot figured. but I really just wanted to write a small snippet)

I have a lot of like partially written things I just worked on while I was bored, sometimes I sketch things randomly and run off.

I get stressed out pretty easily and over whelmed with day to day stuff so I use this as my escape.

Lawbound (Hattie summoned poor law student Prynce Arulius Law who is dead by his fiancee’s hand and trying to solve his own murder. Chapter one is written to post Im doing the cover. chapter 2 is started. Epilogue is also already written)

Red is the Wolf (Red riding hood au, Eclipse is a young woman who’s slowly become a wolf forest spirit due to being born with too much magic. If she interacts with humans she’ll remains human. however she has a terrible fear of people. Her life gets thrown when she accidentally encounters the Prince in the woods and discovers he’s similar to her but his curse is more damaging. She winds up trying to break his curse while slowly falls for her)

The Snake prince (based off my favorite fable from childhood ‘the enchanted snake’ in which Arulius is a Prince who was turned into a snake for the sin of signing the order to execute the forest guardians. his fiance was unable to bear his snakeness and had him trapped in her basement where he escaped injured. he was found by folklorist Eclipse who is a witch and the lone survivor of the massacre. they have no idea of the other’s identity but this is the one AU he’s pretty open about his feelings and while she’s trying to break his curse they end up in love and eventually she has to do the kings trials and Ru semi breaks his curse and the two flee his father who wants her dead. I actually drew a really cute picture of right after eclipse properly breaks his curse. it’s a super fluffy au tbh)

Sunken Ship (new au from the past week. Eclipse is a sea witch who loves ship wrecks. she met the ghost of Arulius Law, a law student who passed away when his fiance shoved him off the sinking ship. She took his skull back to New york with her so he can try to move on. Bittersweet story of them growing close but he’s dead... but mermaids live a long time. and im a slut for reincarnation)

Whipped Water Horse (this is the kelpie au i talked about above. Arulius is a Kelpie who’s been threatened with a whip by Amaris Nightingale since she was a small child and she doesn’t fear the fae. ends up falling in love with her and saving her several times from her human suitors under the guise of “youre my target so no one can have you” has some major angst and some not so fun stuff nearly happen)

The contractor’s wish (Snatcher is a demon who has to grant the whims of those who form contracts by writing in the book he’s bound to. Eclipse found the book while cleaning her attic out and ends up freeing him without question. he sticks around and slowly recalls being human and how he wound up in his situation while trying to figure what his actual wish is)

Cute Barista (a coffee shop au with a cinderella twist. Amaris is a graphic design student who works at her brother’s cafe “the horizon” and attracted the attention of a law student named Arulius law who visits daily. Her brother tried to get him to piss off but sadly the two actually enjoy chatting with each other. As a peck you to her brother they start going on dates. She’s very down on herself and he’s secretly the reclusive prince who���s been in hiding because he’s afraid of peoples reactions after he was scarred by an accident in his youth. he’s trying to find the best way to tell her the truth but also doesn’t want to scare her away. He’s a single father in this having adopted Harriet while doing volunteer work)

the Art Student’s muse (this one is fully written i just haven’t posted it. Basically, Arulius is an art student who became obsessed with this one nude model they had. Like not persay in a creepy way she just captivated him. he gets a lot of shit from his best friend Vanessa but winds up keeping the model in mind despite not seeing her. In his senior year they cross paths again and she has a break down but they wind up together.)

Swapped (a short one shot chapter in which TLC eclispe wakes up as Moon guardian Eclipse and gets very confused emotions when snatcher kissed her)

Darkrai’s Wish (a pokemon au Ive posted one chapter of already in which Arulius is a darkrai but used to be human and doesnt remember this. he has to deal with being human again thanks to a little jirachi and dealing with the fact he loves Eclipse who has issues cuz he used to be a pokemon)

Wolf bite (Prince Arulius was cursed as a werewolf in his youth. as an adult when he got out one full moon he bit a village girl giving her the curse as well. She winds up nearly being burned at the stake for witch craft and he has her saved and brought to the castle. he’s trying to make it up to her but she’s understandably pissed off. It’s a lot of him trying to get her to be not angry but also they start liking each other and she helps teach him a lot about how the world works because he’s naive and sheltered)

Familiar (Amaris lives in a world magic exists. many people have famialars to help do day to day tasks and the more impressive your family the better. Most meet their famialar when they are children, however, Amaris didn’t. But one day her past returns and she is taking care of a small chubby dragon who to everyone else looks like a deformed ferret and has to learn her magic may not be as limited as thought as well as the truth behind her familiar and the strange young man who keeps stopping by her work with flowers for her)

The Prince’s Pet Snake (this is the lamia au. Eclipse is a dangerous lamia with venom to take down an army. Arulius is a naive prince who thought of her as an animal and came to realize she’s far more human than he thought and being dumb to the fact he loves her despite he’s engaged. Has a sad ending)

Tangled Adventure (tangled au: Arulius law was cursed by his wife and is now trying to find the horizon and the daughter of the moon to break it. he picks up a changling child along the way who’s also searching for the horizon to find out where she came from. they meet the daughter of the moon but it seems to break the curse isnt as simple as they think and after making a deal with her to show her the outside they get into trouble when the queen comes looking for her lost prince)

Going Ghost (a danny phantom au idk if i’ve mentioned at all lol. hat and bow are twins and friends of arulius and they are inspecting a weird floor at his girlfriend's house. he winds up getting stuck when they trigger a gate to the horizon and becomes the snatcher. thankfully MJ and Eclipse where there and can somewhat help him calm down but it’s nuts)

Princess and the Rogue (a fantasy Au in which Eclipse is a runaway princess who became a fighter and teamed up with the rogue Snatcher who was cursed after wooing a noble woman. the two have been traveling for a few years and have one of those totally love each other but wont say it but also the search for the princess is getting intense and his curse is getting worse.)

Undergrounded (this is just my undertale au. )

Skates on Point (an ice skating au. Arulius is part of a famous olypic duo, Amaris is a selective mute woman who teaches at her daoptive father’s rink and an ex-ballet dancer. her brotehr was the gold medalist in the olympics but had to quit when he lost the use of his legs in a car wreck. Arulius is stressed over his realtionship and skating and winds up going to skate at the owl express rink where he sees the young woman skating alone in the morning. the two wind up bonding and spending more time togehter and she with his urging and her brother’s urging starts skating competitivly while he starts show skating under and alias and the two wind up performing togehter and realize they may have a thing. Eclispe is in teh process of adopting two little girls but having issues and ru helps and its jsut a lot of healing for everyone. Chapter 1, 2 and 3 typed as well as various snippets)

The little sea wolf (a little mermaid au but eclipse is the mermaid and a sea witch who winds up befriending teh prince after she saved him from thugs. things get sticky when the mermaid princess fell for him after seeing the sea witch save him from a shipwreck and deamnds to have him. the sea witch beause of teh strain of her magic starts to break down and unless she gains a soul she’ll die. Sena punches ru in this one and its great)

SoulmateAU! Duncan doesnt care about his mark. He loves Michael. He loves Jim. And when he meets Reader, his soulmate, he loves her too, but he wants to keep everyone. Except that Michael and Jim are afraid that he will love Reader more and so they are a little mean with her when Duncan isnt here (even if they dont hate her). The poor girl is sad, because she likes them and think she should leave for them to be happy. Duncan must quickly find a way to reassure everyone ! (sorry its a bit long)

WARNINGS: Jealous, Abandonement Issues, People Being Idiots.

It had happened almost as a fairytale: she had been the poor and starving journalist meeting Duncan Shepherd, the rich heir to the Shepherd Foundation at a gala, when he had accidentally drenched her with expensive champagne.

She had been dabbing her shirt, with him helping her dabbing the liquid, excusing himself in a way that she hadn’t expected him to.

He had been gentle and modest, almost as if he was just a fellow colleague.

It was in that moment that he had noticed on her wrist a little sign, the same one he owned on his matching wrist, the obvious sign that they were soulmates.

At first he had simply asked her on a coffee date, more as friends than lovers, but he had kept asking her out and she hadn’t been able to stop herself from accepting, although slowly she had discovered more and more out of the busy man’s life, such as his two other fellow “friends”, which were actually his partners in life and work: Michael Langdon and Jim Mason.

When she had first met them, they had been pretty nice with you, but as soon as Duncan had left the room, a glacial silence had appeared for the entire time they had spent together and no matter how nice she was with them, they didn’t seem to share the same predicament, teasing each of her insecurities.

At first, she had thought it was simply some initial jealousy, but as she had settled in Duncan’s house, they hadn’t been very welcoming alongside acting as brats with her and as saints with Duncan.

She had tried with anything: gentleness, bribing them with their favorite food and gifts, trying to spend some time together in their favorite activities and even going as far as to push Duncan away so, the three of them could spend more time together.

But it never worked, and then in the end she had ended up feeling left out as if she was the problem.

Then she was the one who needed to leave.

She had been packing her suitcase, after she had gotten a friend to host her for a bit, till she found a nice apartment to rent for the rest of the year, meanwhile she worked onto forgetting Duncan Shepherd.

She honestly had fallen in love with him, and hadn’t Michael and Jim been a tad nicer towards her she thought that she would actually like them.

But she just couldn’t think about this anymore, or she would cry and lose all her resolution.

She was packing her suitcase, when Michael walked in without knocking, a donut in his left hand and his face smeared with vanilla sugar on it, which was a truly adorable sight, but she was too focused on closing her suitcase before he could notice it.

She hadn’t wanted them to know just yet.

That night she would call Duncan and break it off on the phone, since she thought that challenging him face to face would make her break all her resolutions and go back,

But she just couldn’t.

She was the one who was out of place with them: definitely not as divinely gorgeous as them and charmingly delightful.

“What are you doing?” asked Michael, eyeing her strangely, and she was expecting some insult to came, but he was just looking at her curious, and she would have sworn that she saw him being almost worried.

“Oh, a friend of mine needs a luggage and I am giving her mine, since hers broke” she lied, quickly, although she knew that it was extremely bad, but Michael didn’t seem to mind it too much and she thought that he had gone back to his usual behavior, so she turned to get back to her things.

But he surprised her again.

“… do you want to come with us downstairs?” he asked, eating up a bit of his donut “… we are sharing a box of donuts, do you want to join us?”.

She was extremely surprised by the proposal since they hardly ever shared Duncan with her, so she was surprised that they would be willing to actually share their precious donuts, but she rejected the offer, because it might all be a very unfunny joke of theirs: like they would have given her a donut, just to smash it in her face.

They would have thought it was funny, but she wouldn’t.

“I can’t, I have to bring this to my friend as soon as I can” she replied, pursuing her lips to seriously fake being worried about the time, shooting a quick look at the clock.

Michael nodded slowly and turned around without talking, but in his movements, she couldn’t help but see some kind of sadness, as if he had seriously wanted her to join them.

But she just couldn’t let got to her mind: she was a woman on the mission.

She went down with the luggage to take her car keys, meanwhile the boys were in the kitchen, where she could hear them giggle, and she shout a quick “see you soon”, welcomed by two “have a nice day”, which was strange since the boys never ever seemed to notice whether she was out or in the house.

She proceeded with her plan: driving off to her friend house, who was already waiting for her with a mug of tea and chocolate, to comfort her tormented heart, meanwhile they gossiped about anything but her relationship, till Margret, her friend, mumbled:

“Are you sure about having done the right choice?” she had been the one who had insisted on her talking like a civil woman to Duncan about the situation and get the two “idiots” kicked out “… maybe they’ll miss you…”.

“I don’t think, Meg” she replied, rather quickly and without thinking, although her mind went a bit back to that morning, when Michael offered her to eat donuts with them “… I felt so unwelcome, but at the same time, I was the problem, they weren’t”.

“That’s (Y/N)’s mentality” tried to make her reason her friend “… Meg’s mentality is��� you should have talked with Duncan”.

“I am!” she exclaimed, before she blushed, hiding her face in her mug and hoping it had been something stronger “… tonight, maybe…”.

Her friend just smirked sadly, before the intercom ringed and she moved to hear who was bothering them, meanwhile she searched a more comfortable position on the sofa.

Just as she had found it, her friend came back to her, with a face that made it seem like she had just seen a ghost, before ending up in a laughing fit, which she didn’t understand, looking at her confused.

“Apparently I have the police under my house, searching for you”.

Which was extremely strange: yeah, she had been staying at Meg’s house for a few hours, definitely not enough for anyone to be worried.

“Why are they searching for me?”.

“I have just let them up, before they accuse me of kidnapping you, so you can ask them yourself”.

The little policeman who had come to search for her, was actually the type of investigator that she would have found in a comedy and both she and Meg had had to stop each other from laughing at his face.

“Mrs (L/N)?” he asked and she nodded, thinking whether she needed or not to show him her ID, but the man just huffed relieved “… Mr Langdon and Mr Mason are extremely worried for you, they said that this morning you left with a luggage and they were worried you were trying to run away”.

Which had been her plan, but she didn’t think that they would have cared, or noticed.

“Ahem… I just went to Meg’s house, to leave a luggage and we ended up chatting for a bit more than we had thought, I am an independent lady, I am allowed to go anywhere alone”.

The policeman seemed to completely agree, but what he said further, surprised even more.

“I know, Mrs (Y/N) and personally… I think that both the misters might have overreacted a bit: we usually don’t warrant a missing person warning till twenty-four hours are passed., but Mr Langdon wasn’t able to calm himself till I told him that we would rush the procedure and I would personally search you for the city”.

This was rather surprised and Meg almost looked like she was going to choke on biting too hard her tongue not to laugh.

She hadn’t expected the boys to even notice her absence, she almost thought they would party on her finally leaving them.

She hadn’t definitely thought they would be worried for her.

“… so, if you don’t mind it, Mrs (L/N), can you come with me to the police station, so that Mr Langdon and Mr Mason might stop pestering my agents?”.

Although she was almost tempted to stay here at Meg’s house just to make them panic even more, she went after the policeman, since he honestly seemed too done with this entire situation.

Meg smirked, meanwhile she hugged her goodbye, whispering about the fact that she needed to confront them now.

When she came at the station, the total chaos was happening there, meanwhile Michael basically screamed at every police officer in the station on how they should rush what they were doing, as Jim looked like he was a step from crying, surrounded by many secretaries who tried to get him to be slightly happier.

But he only brightened when he saw her coming alongside the detective, immediately pushing them all away to run into her, to hug her, meanwhile Michael stopped his screams to turn around, also catching the sight of her, but standing behind with a mysterious expression she didn’t understand if it was cooled rage or true surprise, as if he hadn’t expected her to be back.

“Ladies and gentlemen, Mrs (Y/N) is back” mumbled the detective, meanwhile she thanked and everyone erupted in an applause from which she hid, hiding her face in Jim’s shirt, who was more than happy to bring her under his wing, gently hugging her, meanwhile Michael escorted them out.

The drive back home was silent: she hadn’t been able to disentangle herself from Jim’s hug, so she was still stuck on his chest on the backseats of the car, meanwhile Michael drove, with an eye on the road and another looking at her from the rear window, as if he was expecting her to disappear in thin air.

When they came back home, she almost rushed to her room, but she was stopped by Michael who looked at her with a heavy expression.

“I think we need to talk”.

“I’d prefer to go to my room, to settle some things” she replied, knowing that “talking” might entail them making fun of them as they always did.

They might have been extremely worried about her but, did they seriously care?

“Sweetie, I do think that we need to talk” commented Jim, backing Michael off, but she was convinced by his tone and followed them to the sofa, and she took a seat on the chair in front of it, where they settled, putting some distance.

“Why did you run away” Michael Langdon was never one who liked to play around with things, mostly when they personally mattered to him.

“What are you talking about?” she tried to play dumb, meanwhile an exaggerated laugh left her mouth to hide her embarrassment “I just went to Meg’s house to give her the luggage and I stayed to talk with her, I didn’t even think that you would notice me missing”.

She knew that she was being unfair and definitely a bitch, but they had been terrible to her, so she didn’t owe them any gentleness.

They both grimaced at the screeching words.

“We did notice it, and Michael saw that your luggage was full” shittity shit, she thought, meanwhile Jim withheld her sight, as if he was an abandoned child “… and you wouldn’t come back or pick up your phone”.

“We were worried” summarized Michael, looking at her deeply with those shards of lethal glass, but she refused to give in.

“Yeah… I am sure that you were worried on how to explain to Duncan how you hadn’t killed me and buried me in the graveyard” she mumbled, meanwhile she crossed her arms over her chest to push them away from her mind “… you were just worried it might get you in trouble”.

“Yeah we were worried of what Duncan might do, if he didn’t find you tonight” mumbled Jim, his voice just a shade apart from totally becoming a crying “… he wouldn’t have been ok, without you, his soulmate”.

“We didn’t do this only for that” mumbled Michael, this time lowering his face as if he was ashamed to say that “… we were seriously worried about you… I know we might not show it much, but we seriously care about you”.

“Yeah I honestly and truly believe that you were” she spit sarcastically, meanwhile she just made to raise from her chair, but then Jim started crying and gently hugged Michael, who immediately welcomed.

“We are sorry for the behavior we have displayed with you, it’s just...” but before he could finish his discourse.

“… we were worried that you might take advantage of Duncan” shouted out loud Jim, before he hid his face in Michael’s chest so what he said next was a bit mumbled “… he is generous with the people he thinks that love him, and you appeared so suddenly in our lives… I just didn’t want him to suffer”.

She had never seen this side of the story, but she could see Jim’s worriedness, he had been there before both her and Michael and he clearly was extremely attentive at whoever came in their lives, mostly after what had happened with his mother, something that Duncan had whispered to her, when she had asked what to avoid with the boys.

“I was jealous” confessed instead Michael, although she would have obviously guessed it since he wasn’t as subtle as Jim, so she had caught him many times looking at her with green eyes, when Duncan would lean into her or circle her waist with his arm “… I honestly thought that you had some favoritism which you didn’t deserve just because you were his soulmate”.

She wanted to tell him that she had never wanted anything like that just because she was Duncan’s soulmate, just as him and Jim, who were each other’s soulmates, didn’t distance or made any favoritism towards each other in spite of Duncan.

“It was stupid, I have to admit it, but it felt easier to hate you than admit the fact that maybe you deserved Duncan’s love” he mumbled, biting his lips, meanwhile he focus his attention onto Jim “… but the fact is that he truly loves you and we have been assholes not to notice him”.

She was without words, and she was unable to breath properly meanwhile she thought about what to do, the two boys gently comforting each other, and she took a chance.

She raised, immediately feeling the boys’ eyes onto her and gently moved next to the two boys, enveloping them in a hug, extremely careful as if they were two cats ready to attack her at any given moments.

Jim was the first who leaned into her, gently grabbing her waist with an arm and pushing her onto his laps, completely smashing his face in her chest, in a soothing manner, for Michael it took him a tad more but he leaned into her touch, gently hiding his face in her hair and kissing her neck, softly.

They stayed like this enough not to be surprised from Duncan finally coming back home, who looked at three of them who he always found fighting, all entangled but didn’t say anything, instead gently he leaned in and kissed their foreheads, joining the hug.

Explanations could wait.

BACKSTORY

haneul madison ko was born september 18, 1999 to two immigrant parents from S.K. her birth name is haneul, but she went by the name madison since it was easier to pronounce + madi began to almost detest her culture??

it was just that growing up she would sometimes get bullied for looking different at her school, for the way her packed lunches smelled/looked, the way people would stare if she spoke korean to her parents, how other kids would make fun of her english since she didn’t pick up on vocab/grammar as quickly since she didn’t practice at home with her parents. she just became SO insecure about it that she rejected her culture. she wouldn’t bring her mom’s food to school, if her mom ever forced her to take it she’d throw it away  and choose to starve instead. she wouldn’t speak korean back to her parents in public, barely even in private (which reeaaallly upset her parents). this also REALLY destroyed her korean language skills. she can understand still, but she can barely hold a basic conversation anymore.

as she grew up, and continued this sense of distancing herself from her culture, she ultimately distanced herself from her family. which left her feeling -  - alone often, even though it was all due to her own choices. in this loneliness, she found her escape in music. she would wear headphones constantly through the halls, in car rides, in her room when her parents yelled at her to turn the music down. she just loved music. she saved up the money her parents gave her whenever she worked at the nail salon (her parents owned it!!) to thrift an old keyboard. she became self-taught by trying to copy melodies of songs she’d listen to, thrifting piano lesson books, staying after school with the music teacher learning to play. sometimes she’d even skip lunch to sit in the chorus room with her choir director and play.

it’s not that she had a LACK of friends growing up, maybe just that she lacked a best friend. she had a lot of friends, but no one that she felt so connected to in the way she felt connected to music. perhaps, she was addicted to her loneliness.

she spent a lot of time playing the piano and dabbling in writing music that her grades started to fall (not that she was ever the BEST student) and her parents literally took away her piano. they said it was a waste of time because they wanted her to focus on doing well, so she could get into a good university, and then live a good life. music was just a distraction

but that didnt work

she would sneak out into the city to go to concerts and poetry readings. she’d sneak out and go to indie songwriters scenes while her parents thought she was at the library with one of her school friends

This underground scene had her full heart!! she was surrounded by likeminded people who just lived for music. she was hearing all of these incredible people who were all looking for their start. maybe not looking for anything at than just to sing their songs. tbh i think this was the point she was happiest. she was completely enveloped in music, just for the sake of music. There wasn’t any pressure, just music. Just the songs. she was wide eyed looking at this whole underground scene of artists. So maybe some plots from these underground charas?!

she’d perform some songs at karaoke nights and the indie sessions, and a producer took a keen interest in one of her songs. basically im kind of stealing halsey’s career start, but she posted a song Came in Close on SoundCloud and just blew up overnight. in the morning, she woke up to a record label asking her to fly to LA for a meeting.

and thus, Madison Ko began a career as Madi Ko where she’d release her debut album, Honey, a few months later. (DISCOGRAPHY HERE). her music is very 80s synth inspired!

PERSONALITY

right off the bat, madi is an absolute firecracker!! she’s loud, bursting with personality, has a lack of inhibitions that CHAOTICALLY mixes with her spontaneity

part of this is projecting her insecurities. she felt lonely as a child but doesn’t want to be seen as that to the world. it’s not so much a persona but an exaggeration of who she was. 

she likes to show off her glam bc it, once again, hides her insecurities.

May Reading Wrap Up

I'm actually really proud of myself. I finished 13 books last month. Spent a lot of extra time away from screens and focusing on my mental health so I burned through way more than I normally would. So anyways, here's my reviews. - Also please understand that these are just my opinions and if I shit on your favorite book I'm sorry that I didn't enjoy it as much as you. Also, also Im terrible with character names.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor ⭐⭐⭐

I actually started this book at the end of April but didn't finish it til May 1st so whatever, here it is. This books is a YA urban fantasy novel about a girl with a double life. She spends half her days studying art in Europe and the other half running errands for a tooth collecting wish monger. I don't want to say a whole lot more because I dont want to spoil anything important about the plot. So, I'll try to be vague. Let me start by saying this story is amazing. I loved the writing and the world. I rated it so low solely because I can't stand the two main characters and it really dragged down what would have otherwise been an amazing novel. So yeah, great book but its a preference thing. Also took points off for the insta-love but not really insta-love shit. Idk. I have a lot of mixed feelings about this read even a month later. Gonna read the second to see if maybe my hatred of the two mains was just a fluke.

This is the third book in the Hex Hall trilogy. Not much to say about it. It was a meh ending to an overall pretty good series. 3/5 stars. Moving on.

The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw

Realizing now how many of my reads this month were pretty middle of the world. Hopefully next month will be filled with 4 and 5 stars. Anyways, this book was honestly a struggle for me to finish and Im not sure why. It's a YA mystery magical realism story about a tiny coastal town that is cursed by the spirits of 3 sisters who were suspected of witchcraft and drowned 2 centuries prior. Because of this, every year the sisters return from the sea to take the lives of teenage boys by luring them to the sea. We follow the life of kind of meh and standard YA girl #1. She meets a strange non tourist boy and hires him to work in the lighthouse her family owns. Her dad randomly disappeared years ago and her mom is a loon. So yeah... I dont know. I kind of felt like this story was hot garbage in places. I usually dont have any trouble with the suspense of disbelief in magical realism stories but this one just had too many plot holes. Like, I get morbid stuff becomes tourist attractions but why wouldn't someone have stepped in and evacuated the town if at least 3 teenage boys die there EVERY SINGLE YEAR without fail? I honestly feel like the FBI or some other government agency would have cleared the place out after the first 20 or so deaths. There was also the whole MC can see the ghosts of the girls possessing people but chooses not to tell anyone? Like, I get it. You dont want people to label you a freak or think you're crazy but come the fuck on. You live in a tourist trap where people flock to watch local teenage males wash up on shore and you really think the authorities arent going to take you up on the help? It wasn't an awful book by any means. It was well written and extremely descriptive. Just had major beef with some of the details. Anyways, I wont say much more so I don't spoil the whole book.

An Enchantment of Ravens by Maragret Rogerson

Finally, I get to talk about one of my favorite reads of the month. I love anything to do with the Fae in my YAfiction and this was literally everything I wanted in a Fae novel. It takes place in a town called Whimsy, a humanish town in the world of Faerie. The fae cannot do any Craft, or what we would consider craftsmanship. Art and humans who can do it well are very precious in this world because the Fae can't ever do it themselves. We follow the adventures of a girl who has been commisioned to paint the portrait of the Autumn King and the chaos that ensues. Let me just start by saying this is one of those insta-love situations where I feel like it's genuinely ok. I might be making excuses because I loved the title so much but whatever. It's explained and I accept it. Also, I realize that Gadfly had a lovely description but my brain willl not let me picture him as anything but Mr.Waternoose from Monsters Inc.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

This book started out so good and went downhill very quickly. It follows the story of these two magicians who were fated by their Master's to one day fight to the death. There were so many things I loved about this book only for the last 100 pages to just take a firey dump on my face. I loved the setting and the majority of the characters. The supporting characters were so deep and interesting that I almost cared more about them than I did Ceilia and Marko (Im proabably wrong and I dont feel like googling but I think that was his name) . I don't know. I don't want to complain about anymore meh books.

Went into this book expecting to hate it. I usually don't like contemporary love stories but this had major City of Ember meets The Giver vibes and it just appealed to that 14 year old girl in me again. That seems to happen with a lot of dystopian utopia stories. Anyways, story is about a girl who lives in this town where when you hit a certain age you are brought to a place and told who the government has chosen for you to marry. She is matched with her life long best friend and all is well. Except that her little Get To Know Your New Husband microship thing showed her two guys instead of just one. And lots of bullshit ensues. I honestly think I rated this so high because I enjoy the world and not so much whats actually happening to the kids. Like, I loved the idea that art is harmful so the government chose 100 acceptable pieces and thats all these people know. I loved the brutality of the government in general. I can't say much more without spoiling some of the twists but geez did it have me hooked. I'm going to be started the second one soonish, though my TBR for June has gotten intense so we will see.

Got sucked into this book by the cover and honestly that was the best part of this book. Its about this world where necromancy is pretty highly regarded and used to resurrect the royals after they die. The only downside is that if a living person ever lays eyes on the resurrected person's skin then they turn into these horrible monsters. Maybe it's just me but like that absolutely does not seem worth the risk. Plus, in order to bring the person back, these reapers have to go into the death world and bring the spirit back. And it's HELLA DANGEROUS. So like, WHY? Anyways, there is this stupid underlying love story that I absolutely wasn't invested in. This just all around was not a good book.

Little known fact~ I'm obsessed with Monster High and Ever After High. So yeah, I realize this wasn't targeted to me as an adult but even going into it with an open mind I was disappointed. Granted I didn't read the description of the book prior. I just saw this franchise I love and grabbed it. First, if you are a fan of the mini series and the movies do not read this. It doesnt follow the cinematic canon and I think that was my biggest problem with it. Frankie's character was all wrong and I hated the whole"Normy" cast. Was really excited for these but I definitely won't be continuing the series. I don't even want to torture myself with seeing how they manage to ruin my sweet baby Draculara.

Have had this on my TBR for a while because of how many Booktubers have hyped the series. Buy, was I disappointed. I was soooooooooo bored. Maybe it's because I don't really enjoy this type of fantasy or maybe it was just the slower paced story but I just slugged through this book. Both of the main female characters were bland to me and I didn't care about their friendship. The world was cool but not enough to keep me invested. Just wasn't my cup of tea.

Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

Picked this up because of how much I loved The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein and it didn't meet my expectations. It follows this girl who works for a paranormal gorvenment group. She has a special ability that makes her really useful to them so they are trying to groom her basically. They capture this changeling and she befriends him and there is an overarching plot that I just didn't get invested in. The friendship between the two main characters was pretty much the only thing that I enjoyed in this title. The mother figure was insufferable and I just didn't really understand the whole org that they worked for in general. Not an awful book but not fantastic.

Solid 3/5 stars.

The Siren by Kiera Cass

Going to preface this by saying I might be biased. I love Kiera Cass and have enjoyed almost everything she has written. That said, this wasn't nearly as good as The Selection series but it was a pretty good stand alone novel. It about a girl who becomes a siren on her deathbed and spends the next 100 years serving the sea by luring people to their deaths. After doing this for 70 years, she falls in love and pretty much ruins everything. Loved the characters, especially the male lead. The insta love was a little pet peeve of mine but the love interest was so sweet and genuine that I was willing to overlook it. Pretty good read if you dig supernatural romance.

Boots Reads Homestuck Epilogue(s) Part 10 - Candy Part 1 again

I was told that finishing the epilogue MAY make me feel better by some with opinions, with some vague hints that the ridiculous start of Candy may have underlying reasons, so now that I’m awake again (though my stomach is roiling a bit again) I’m gonna take another crack at it.

Alright, so I was also hinted that this Candy part ends with a different cliffhanger, so maybe those two will cancel out?  That’s my hope anyway.

Reading page 1 again since I didn’t finish the very tail end of it... alright, so WHY IS ROXY CRYING again????  Was she just PRETENDING that she didn’t know it might turn out bad for John if he went at the end of the last one?  Was there some weird mind-rewriting going on?  Is the crying a symptom of this whole thing potentially being an our!Callie fanfic and she knows what’s being dodged??  Don’t know.

Alright, let’s have him save Gamzee and... is Vriska going to get saved in this version?  Or is that descent into the black hole without seeing what happens her well-deserved comeuppance while only the ghost version of Vriska truly figured out how to be happy?

...Yeah, Gamzee immediately being repentant is weird as shit.  Maybe he Chucklevoodoo’d Callie into escaping him into this whole candied mess so he could start shit, I dunno.  That or this isn’t really Gamzee or someone’s manipulating him or etc etc etc.  The hint I got earlier was that if I thought Calliope wanting to bring Gamzee back and everyone just rolling with it was a little out of character, there are “reasons”, so I’m just going through all of this under the assumption that some emotion-manipulating weirdness is going on regardless.

Oh shit, Gamzee’s going to start recounting his character reasons for doing bad stuff in a surface-hope of justification and understanding.  All the characters immediately recognize how painfully groanworthy this is going to be.

For some reason, this doesn’t settle my stomach much?  It’s clear Andrew wove this in here so that if you read Meat first, you’d be able to acknowledge readily how this diverged in a way the characters kind of recognize, and... I’m not sure what I’m even saying.  It’s like there’s hope that this is TRYING to take the bad taste out of my mouth, but I don’t believe it overly much.

ohhh friend you have opened a pandoras box and i hope you are ready also thank you aha

so i started…….. picking some lines and made the Executive Decision to just do one fic because i was planning on doing a couple from a handful of fics but turns out im far too prone to waffling about this kind of stuff because i love picking things apart and figuring out why they work because i love fuckign words and the things they evoke and stuff so yeah this is just some fave lines from most recent fic, requital. 

this was part of a ‘directors cut’ writer thing and if anyone has any more prompts, feel more than free to send them my way! 

Requital, Chp. 1: 

His honesty, wrapped tightly underneath a chivalrous act; a throwaway comment to soften the exposure of such a question, draws her closer.

She kisses him, and hopes that even though the motion is countless in the amount of times they’ve come together, that the answer is plain enough. A claim, she hears her own words in her head, tasting the tobacco of his morning cigarette on her tongue, the warmth of the pull at his hands on her hips.

so whilst i cant say this section was directly inspired by the ecdysis book, what i can say is that there is definitely some influence going on here, in particular these two lines from the page ‘synesthesia’:

“Wu Ming is a bonfire in the darkness, and she crawls toward his warmth.”

“Wu Ming leaves his questions by the wayside as he is drawn inexorably into the gravity well of her desperate honesty.” 

and thats not something i realised until i was writing the final draft, and im pretty pleased with myself considering not only is requital going to examine some of the similarities between avia and drifter, but also the fact that ecdysis is probably my favourite book. i mean…… ‘drawn inexorably into the gravity well of her desperate honesty’ what the FUCK KIND OF LINE its gorgeous i cant deal with it or this book or this page or how desperately gorgeous the tragedy of drifter and orins relationship is 

also…… look. im a hopeless romantic. always have been, probs always will be, so when i say avia and rook are soulmates i mean it in the cheesiest way possible. right before this is rook feeling a bit self-conscious about the whole awoken engaging thing, and theres no way avia can actually put into words how irrevocably in love she is with rook. so she kisses him, and hopes beyond hope that she can put those feelings into motions if not words. i also enjoy the small bit of possessiveness that came out of her too, because the whole ‘claim’ thing with the awoken was there since the first draft but this section came in the final edit, she thinks of it so casually but when she goes on to say that she’d actually duel anyone who came between them i…….. would not put it past her to be 100% down to do that. 

rook isnt a bonfire in the darkness, he’s an anchor in the deep, a solid tether when the sea becomes a storm.

Requital Chp. 2:

Here’s the thing, if you’ve gone through the trouble of decrypting this (a fortified certain-eyes-only encryption that took me a couple of hundred years to perfect, thank you very much), it at least means you’re interested, so hear me out.

i like this line a lot, for a few reasons. drifter knows avia well enough at this point to be well acquainted with her temper and lack of time for dealing with his nonsense. it’s the first flick of the coin between the two of them, drifter laying the proverbial gauntlet down and at the end of the day, its up to her whether or not she picks it up. 

and she does, avia asks levi to decrypt it, and the first thing she sees is drifter acknowledging that shes done so and asking her to at least hear him out. he’s kind of caught her out, and she can respect that even if thats not at the forefront of her mind. avia also has her own brand of curiosity when it comes to people like the drifter, so this is kind of the first inkling of that. and it also (i hope) makes you wonder if drifter is aware of that curiosity that she has, if he sent the message decrypted on purpose to get her interested. 

She smiles at the note, throws her legs over the bed and stretches around a yawn. Five minutes later, Levi puts her in her armour.

“Are you sure you don’t want to stick around?” The Ghost asks. “We don’t have anything urgent to do. There’s breakfast here.”

Avia hums, considering. She moves into the kitchen, glances over the fridge, the cupboards. She looks then onto the sofa, the sprawled pillows, untidy blankets. Suddenly the armour on her body feels heavy, out of place, like the metal has no right being somewhere like this.

“No. I’m not hungry, let’s go.”

“Okay,” Levi says in that tone of voice that lets her know they aren’t buying it. “Should we walk, or transmat?”

Avia notices the balcony door is still open. She walks over and closes it, the streets barely alive as one or two civilians walk to and fro, glancing idly at each other as they pass. “Transmat.”

avia immediately makes an comment about being all domestic with rook in chapter 1. its just not something that suits her in her own mind, and that line (even though i havent waffled about it bc dear god theres too much here already) was something i immediately knew i wanted if i was going to write a day of domestic bliss with her and her fiance, because i knew it’d be a hard thing for her to just get on with like a normal person aha. 

so, we get this part in chapter 2. the domestic bliss is over, and what avia knows best, what shes always known best, is a set of armour and getting back to work. however this part of herself contradicts that which she’s experienced for the past day, and especially the line ‘Suddenly the armour on her body feels heavy, out of place, like the metal has no right being somewhere like this.’ i put in to really reinforce that idea. its not the metal that feels out of place in this scene, its the person in the metal. and her eagerness to transmat straight to the tower rather than walk through the peaceful city streets shows her tendency to run from such thoughts.

this part came really naturally, actually. its a small snapshot into a bigger struggle avia has with herself (especially given the dreaming city, the reef, petra and now potentially going back to the worst part of the shore with drifter) of where she belongs, and more importantly, if she deserves to belong. which is why levi talks to her in that tone because they know what shes doing, theyve seen it so many times before – avia in a scenario that resembles something normal and running from it with no one around to stop her, because in her subconscious she doesnt believe she deserves it. 

“Ada-1, I believe, has fully settled into the Tower. She becomes more and more tolerable of the Guardians by the day. And with the discovery of Niobe labs, her mood has been favourable.”

i had no idea how fun scarlet was to write until i got to this part. she almost has her own language, really. writing ‘im really proud of ada because i spent all morning with her and she was only snippy with like two guardians and shes been really uplifted and im really happy for her since they found niobe labs’ in scarlets own ‘okay but heres the relevant information’ way of explaining things is a challenge but FUN. like, really fun?? 

because scarlet wouldnt be mentioning adas mood if she didnt care, ya know? and its not that she cant say that longer thing about being proud and stuff, its just that she doesnt see the sense in it and its not important information. like, if avia and eden were to spend a dedicated amount of time whittling her down she would absolutely say ‘i am so proud of ada and also i wanna smooch her face how do i do that as an exo’ but its just not a thing for her. but part of the reason why ada and scarlet being together was an idea that i had was because i imagine that line of thinking probably suits ada. 

“It was at Ada’s request. I had more knowledge of the area in its current state, and felt more comfortable talking to Ikora and her Hidden agents than Ada did…”

“Hmm,” Ada wears a concerned stare masked behind a formal rigidity that Avia knows her Warlock teammate best for.

if im being honest, i just really enjoy this line. i imagine its hard for exos to show concern, esp a character like ada and my girl scarlet, so avia has spent a lot of time dissecting certain facial cues and yeah im proud of how this description came out aha

…as if she hadn’t spent the past few months clipping sidelong comments and threatening him when his Gambit veered out of the realm of her control.

avia is a control freak. plain and simple, and i wanted to make that as obvious as possible considering this sentence is only a few away from avia choosing to go and talk to drifter. 

there’s a certain amount of ‘i need to understand this thing that i have limited knowledge on so i can predict/control/plan for it in the future’ in how avia views drifter in general, its a kind-of warlock way of thinking about things but the big difference is avias need for control in these situations is a) selfish and b) only applies to things that she knows she has a good chance of understanding/taming. shes not going around learning about the hive because she has a good understanding that thats a cosmic threat that can only be defended against until it comes. drifter on the other hand is on her doorstep.

i also really loved the contradiction in putting ‘gambit’ and ‘control’ next to each other in a sentence, i kinda hoped it showed how conflicted avia is about going and talking to drifter, and maybe even how naive it is of her to think that it could turn out okay. 

She was incensed, maybe, at the way he spoke to Ada, needed to go and stomp the idea out of his head but he got her talking, like he does

i like this line bc its avia acknowledging that she knows how shes viewed. she knows everyone sees her as a hot-head, she knows her anger veers away from her sometimes and whilst she’s gotten better at getting a handle on it, it’s still an aspect of her that people who dont know her well enough find it hard to get past. 

i also enjoy how new people to this fic/avia in general might not know that this is a big part of her? so she’s trying to use it as an excuse, ‘well no one can blame me if i say i got really mad because thats what i do’ and it (hopefully) tells new people about that aspect of her character without having to show the worst part of it, the convo with ada being an introduction to it i guess – especially since the past few scenes have seen her a lot softer than im used to writing aha. 

“Dammit,” she mutters under her breath. And walks towards the Drifter before she can make a better decision

fun fact – this line was originally ‘and walks down the corridor before she can make a better decision.’ 

i changed it because i wanted to make it more obvious that avia is making a conscious decision to choose drifter, that she’s walking towards a path that she knows is not a good idea. it provides foreshadowing for the allegiance quest and referring to him as ‘The Drifter’ cements it as an idea that she’s walking towards and not necessarily a person.

Mystic Messenger Pokemon AU!

I’m so glad you guys seem interested in the Pokemon crossover! I’ve been sitting on it since last July and it’ll be nice to write it all down! Since the MC is a self insert, they're the only one without a team ^^

I’ll put it under the cut because it got to be a little long @.@

Saeyoung:

Seven is still a hacker in this AU. He has a special affinity for fire types for some reason, and Chimchar was both a gift from V and his starter. Instead of his father being Prime Minister, he was the champion. His mother used her Ghost and Psychic types to hide him and Saeran away, and his backstory parallels his regular one, with V getting him out and into the agency where he works. However, in this AU he works with Looker and Vanderwood, which makes for some interesting missions.

Along with his main team, he also has a rotom that lives in his cellphone and isn't normally used for battle. He's not above pulling out his secret 7th party member when needed. It may be “cheating” but he doesn’t really care.

Despite Emboar being his strongest Pokemon, he is rarely used bc he prefers to trick his way out of situations, and leave less of a trail back to himself. This is something Chimchar and Gliscor are pros at. All his pokemon are high energy like him except for emboar actually, he prefers to laze about and nap whenever possible.

Yoosung:

Both Shinx and Electrike have been with him since he was really really little! It’s part of the reason why he acts like such a puppy, haha. Electrike was a gift from Rika. He was a puppy from Rikas Maniktrike and, just like Yoosung, adores her. Duckett was also the offspring of Rikas Swanna, and Yoosung had to deliver her himself bc Rika was gone. When she got back, she was impressed and Rika let him keep her. 

That's when Yoosung decided to go to school to become a Nurse Joy! (bc he wants to be a vet in mm i thought it fit). Audino acts like a mom to Yoosung and keeps him on track. Bosley’s most used move is fake tears bc yoosung cries so often. Dewgong he actually caught on a whim. He’s very sweet, good natured, and surprisingly lazy.

Instead of LOLOL, Yoosung loves going to the game corner and gets caught up playing games there for hours.  

Zen:

Zens a contest coordinator and participates in pokemon musicals as well as regular musicals, like My Fair Ledian. Feebas was his starter bc his parents are horrible people and thought "an ugly boy should have an ugly pokemon!" 

Well he showed them!! He gave her all the love in the world and didn't even know she could evolve, but as soon as she did, he ran away with her to do musicals. Soon after, Absol was drawn to him bc Zen has the ability to see into the future (he keeps his ESP from the game, but it’s even more pronounced in this AU). Also his ninetails is shiny. He is basically a mini Zen. They share a spiritual connection, haha. Scizor likes to dance and Glade is a perfect gentlemen. 

All his Pokemon minus Alteria (whos acts nuts bc i thought it'd be funny) are amazingly well behaved but get a little too ruthless in battle (Since Zen was in a street gang when he was a kid in the actual game, I’m gonna say he was in team rocket for a while and his pokemon picked it up from there)

Jaehee:

Mienfoo was her starter pokemon whom she loves dearly. They're both very detail oriented and Mienfoo is very patient as well, as the two of them understand each other very well. Onix she has just because I just love the idea of Jaehee having an onix. Like, people see she has her Cinccino sitting in her shoulder and challenge her for easy cash. Then she just sighs, and has onix crush them bc she is a very busy women with many errands to run, thank you very much. 

Cinccino she has bc she gets stressed if there are messes. Cinccino was actually a gift from Jumin bc he's not as cold as he seems and feels guilty when his pokemon shed all over her house when he leaves them with her~~ Cinccino is very thoughtful and makes sure Jaehees work station and house is clean so she doesn't have to stress out about it. She caught alolan ninetails thinking it was a shiny (like Zens) and she was excited bc Zens her hero (its rly cute, she's still his biggest fan). When she found out it wasn't she was a little disappointed but kicked herself in the butt and took responsibility, and now ninetails is her most doting pokemon. She also is a big fan of Zen’s ninetails lol. 

Sawk she received as a sparring partner for her martial arts (Jaehee can and will murder you). He's very driven and stoic but also very mom like  (funny enough) and has told Jumin off more then once (not that Jumin understands or cares tho). She very recently obtained stufful bc she's been feeling lonely and she heard they were popular with single women. Her only regret is the increase in her weekly food budget.

Jumin:

So Empoleon was his starter pokemon and, like him, is very formal. His name is Sir Rupert Esquire, or just Sir Rupert. The two aren't very touchy feely but that's only bc Jumin has a steel wall up around him and whenever hes feeling extremely vulnerable he tends to stand extremely close to him, and Empoleon gets it.

Serperior is named Ribbons and he caught her when she was a Snivy on a business trip. He's very fond of her and likes to watch her lounge around in his penthouse. Scolipede just seemed right somehow? Idk, it just fit. Staraptor is another of his childhood pokemon. Sometimes Staraptor gets a little ruffled tho bc Jumin doesn't like letting him roam to far. Jumin is a clingy baby, at least with his pokemon bc he feels like no one else was ever there for him fully besides V and Rika, and with Rika’s "death" V has been distant. Jumin’s a mess man, he just doesn't want to admit it. 

V gives him Lilligant as a gift to make him feel better about V being gone so often. Jumin kinda projects onto her alot and tries his hardest to make sure she's safe and well cared for since he cant to the same for V. Lilligant loves him so much it's not even funny though. Jaehee can tell how he's feeling based on whether or not she can smell aroma therapy on him, as Lilligant tend to spam it to try and help when he's upset. 

The pokemon Jumin most dotes on is Elizabeth the 3rd (Persian) tho bc just like with Lilligant, he projects Rika onto her. Elizabeth was a gift from Rika afterall. Jumin feels the most connected with Elizabeth as well because she doesn't respect his boundaries like the rest of his team. She likes to coddle and groom him and all in all is a sweet, spoiled girl who loves her dad very much. Jumin's the son of his regions pokemon mart branch owner, making him super freaking rich.

V:

Okay, so I made V's team really cutise looking but I swear it has good reasoning. Okay, so his starter pokemon was Primarina and they are very close. He takes amazing care of her and she sings to him and gets him to open up a bit when he’s closing everyone out. She is very fond of Zen and mother’s him often bc motherly pokemon are #the best. Also V becomes a musician in one of his endings so I thought it was fitting. 

Solrock helps him with lighting for indoor photos and also on bad days for his depression, it likes to light up his room. Espeon is not only an empath who helps him through emotional stuff, but after he goes blind she helps him around and makes sure he doesnt hurt himself by tripping over things by letting him grab onto her tail. Vivallion he caught in a different pokemon (it’s a sun form but you know the team builder only has the generic art so shrug). V just thought he was pretty and photogenic. Chimecho was his mother's pokemon and after she died he took good care of her. And as for Maractus? V likes cacti and I just couldn't see him w a Cacturne.

Saeran:

Saeran built up his team to counter anything that could be thrown at him. Lucario, as a Riolu, was both his starter and a gift from Rika when she recruited him into Mint Eye. He is her most trusted admin, and can usually take out a threat before it has time to get serious. He’s intense in battle, but is also very doting on his pokemon and can’t stand it when they’re hurt. He also dotes on Rika’s pokemon when they let him. 

Porygon is meant to directly counter Seven’s Rotom, and Vileplume is fitted with multiple different powder moves for any situation. In this AU, Saeran’s mental breakdown in the secret ending is directly pareled by his attempt to use mega evolution with Lucario, who isn’t at a high enough level to keep himself under control while using it. Incineroar was another gift from Rika, and she likes to walk around outside her ball too keep an eye on her trainer. Everyone of his pokemon has cutesy nicknames that he only uses outside of battle.

Rika:

This is Rikas team. In this AU, she runs the Villain team, Mint Eye, like in the actual game. She had a Maneiktrike on her team till it died, which actually is what started her on her quest to catch the lake trio, which is Mint Eyes goal in this AU. She, like in the game, wants to get rid of all sadness in the world by getting rid of bad emotions and memories, as well as taking away will power that you could use to hurt other people. 

And until she can use the lake trio for that, she's using her trusty hypno and musharna to do it in their place. They’re a deadly duo. Swanna is pretty but also brutal so I thought it fit her well enough, plus it gave me a good reason to give Yoosung a duckett, haha. I gave her volcarona because it fit well, and also my own personal love for Volcarona. 

Sunflora is a pokemon that looks soft, but Rika’s has Leech Seed, Toxic, Worry Seed, and Attract. Rikas favorite is worry seed since she finds it easier to manipulate people after inducing an insomnia based paranoia. It helps with conversion. Alolan persian is her spoiled baby boy whom she loves. Imagine Garfield, but also with the alignment of John Arbuckle.

Languages.

Because I don’t feel like writing a prompt today doesn’t mean I shouldn’t try writing at all. I actually thought of this as I fell asleep. I’m just... relieved I remembered. Going to switch up my On The Spot tags so I’m not spoiling who the fuck I’m writing for, that’s why they’re under the tag in the first place.

“What are you doing, Sergei?” Dot laughed, amused. “I know you’re not an entire mute.”

Sergei Dragunov’s hands moved; she knew them to be rough and callous at the fingertips. They were large enough to cup her entire face in the palm of his hand, but surprisingly warm sometimes. That must be because he always had them in his gloves. He was signing to her and for some reason, refusing to talk. Their mind link was always an option but there was a deliberate reason he was doing what he was doing.

“What’s he saying?” There was no mistaking the annoyance in Bennett’s tone as he lowered his head and nearly growled in Dot’s ear. Bennett Graves was a very big person in everything, it seemed. Personality, height, build, and attitude. He clearly did not like the fact he was kept out of the loop by Sergei’s swift signing. He didn’t know sign language!

The three of them sat together this morning; Bennett was always attached to Dot in some way as the overprotective father and Daddy to three pups and His very special little girl. And since the pups, he’s only seemed to have gotten worse in terms of his jealousies and possessiveness. The youngest of two elder brothers, the one of which is his very own twin, he was the baby. He was used to getting away with a lot because Aiden never really pulled his ass in line when they were younger and why shouldn’t he had? There was no real reason to curb the destructive path all three brothers were bound. At least, not until a few years ago. Now Bennett found it hard to be his “normal” self breaking old and hurtful habits to trade them in for gentler hands, kinder words because he wanted to know how to be with Dot without seriously hurting her in any way. He was getting used to the fact that he’s not the center of everything. Dot was. But that was more than okay with him and Bennett was content to tell every-fucking-body who listened the same thing. She and the pups were his whole world and he stubbornly, protectively, and possessively held on to his whole world with both hands.

“Tell him it’s none of his business.”

Dot laughed again. “He says it’s none of your business.”

Bennett’s golden gaze snapped to cold, uncaring blue ones. “Why the fuck can’t he tell me that himself?”

“Yeah, why can’t you, Sergei?” Dot grinned.

Sergei’s hands paused and Dot thought she imagined his expression getting harder. If that were anymore possible. Finally, he signed, “It’s a conversation between you and I.”

“Well, that’s true.” Dot admitted.

“...What did he say?” Bennett repeated, moments away from spitting the next thing through his razor sharp teeth.

“He said it’s a--” Sergei signed again and the movement caught out of the corner of her eye.

“Don’t tell him a thing.”

“I don’t know how you managed to make that sound demanding through your hands...” Dot muttered before looking hopelessly at Bennett. “Sorry, Daddy. But i can’t tell You anything.”

“That’s bullshit!” Bennett shouted, nearly jostling Dot as he stood to his feet. Bennett was always a step away from a aggressive punch in the face and it looked like Sergei was managing to hit all the right buttons -- all without saying a word.

Somewhat.

“Perhaps he should have picked up the habit of signing. Didn’t he say he was going to learn?”

“...Yeah,” Dot said, turning from Sergei’s hands to Bennett again. “Didn’t You say You were going to learn how to sign from Lu?”

Bennett blinked and almost immediately, the flame was snuffed out as the subject caused him to think for a moment. He sat down as he asked, “Lu? Yeah. I could have asked him. But then he said somethin’ stupid and I got mad. So, we don’t like Lu right now and I’m definitely not learnin’ anything from him.”

While Dot would agree that her brothers were stupid, Bennett was more likely to get pissed off by something Luvon said that happened to be an observation he pointed out and it wouldn’t entirely be off the mark. But she didn’t say anything after that, she only reached over and gave her Daddy a comforting pat on the knee. However, Sergei was a lot more open to the idea.

“I like Luvon.”

Dot laughed. “Yeah, well, you would.”

“He would, what?” Bennett asked, a little prickly.

“He said he liked Lu.”

Bennett snorted, “babygirl is right. You fuckin’ would.”

“I like Benedict, too.”

“Aww,” Dot sighed, placing her hands over her heart, happy to hear about Benedict in any capacity. But then she paused as she thought over that group of selective men. “Yeah. I bet the three of you get along really well.”

“I don’t need to know sign language to know his ass lumped Bene in there, too, huh?”

“Wow, Daddy, you really didn’t!”

“He’s not as dumb as he looks.”

Dot hadn’t meant to laugh. It was just such a blunt statement and it had taken her off-guard.

“...What?” Bennett asked.

“N-Nothing, Daddy. He asked how Benedict was doing.”

“That is not what I asked, little fibbing girl.”

Dot ignored that particular phrased sign. Bennett was already talking which spared her from looking Sergei in the face to see the matching expression.

“How should I know? The three of y’all hang out so much, it’s annoyin’. Shouldn’t you feel him in your dick or something?”

“I take back what I said about him not being as dumb as he looks.”

Dot breathed in deeply through her nose. “No, Daddy, that’s You and Cavon.”

“...Is that what he said?”

“That’s what i’m saying!”

“Oh. Then you’d be right.”

“We exchange messages through our phones like normal people.”

Dot laughed again and Bennett immediately looked suspicious.

“I really don’t like that I can’t fuckin’ understand him.”

“He just said they exchange texts. Like normal people.”

Bennett’s closed fist came down upon the coffee table in front of them. “THAT JUST MAKES ME AND BRO-BRO SPECIAL. SUCK THAT, YA DEAD LOOKIN’ BASTARD!”

“Daddy, that’s not very nice...” Dot scolded gently, turning to look over at Sergei. He wasn’t signing anymore. But his face certainly didn’t look too bothered. He was regarding Bennett the exact way Benedict or Luvon would -- almost with boredom and he’d let Bennett throw his fit, to let him do all the work of making himself look ridiculous, and getting mad all by himself.

And Bennett caught on.

“GODDAMN IT, THEY DO GET ALONG STUPIDLY WELL!” He threw his hands up, standing. Not as a means to throw a punch at Sergei but he was starting to walk out.

“Where are you going?!” Dot laughed.

“I’M NOT TAKING LESSONS FROM LUVON!” Bennett huffed and growled over his shoulder, “I’M GOING TO FIND YOUR GODDAMN APES AND HAVE THEM TEACH ME!”

“Makes sense he would understand an ape better than any of us.”

“DON’T TELL ME WHAT HE SAID!” Bennett shouted, noting that Sergei had been signing again. He paused before he reached the door, pointing at the both of them. “I’m going to learn my own damn self and then kick his ass for talking shit! BECAUSE I KNOW HE’S TALKIN’ SHIT!”

Dot was laughing into her hands, trying her best to compose herself but the image of Bennett sitting in the middle of all that misty jungle, shirt off, trying to learn sign language with the giant apes was something that kept popping in her head. “Daddy, please, come back.”

“I’M ON A MISSION, BABYGIRL!” Bennett shouted, shutting the door behind him. “I”LL COME BACK WHEN I’M READY!” came his muffled reply before his stomping boots faded down the hall.

“I could have taught you myself!” Dot shouted but Bennett was out of earshot and she knew this because his ass would have come running back, sounding like a rhino. Finally settled back in her seat, she turned to Sergei with a hand lifted towards the door. “Look at what you did.”

Sergei turned her face her again from that uninterested gaze he had kept on Bennett to a softened expression only reserved for Dot. The corner of his scarred lip was faintly tugged upwards in a ghost of a smirk. He didn’t say anything after that but the look on his face said it for him. 

He was entirely proud of running Bennett away to spend the rest of this quiet time with Dot where he can finally put his hands to good use on something, no, someone else.

And Dot realized this way too late as he scooped her up.
