Was experimenting with halftone effects after watching this video and it almost has spiderverse vibes honestly. I actually learned some neat things about why printers use CMYK instead of just CMY so I thought I'd share !!

So in our optimal little computer space, Cyan (0,255,255), Magenta (255,0,255) and Yellow (255,255,0) all multiplied together gives us a perfect black (0,0,0) Awesome! The issue is that ink colors irl arent exactly perfect like this, and color is a bit more complicated irl compared to how computers represent it, so they aren't the greatest at combining into black if they aren't those perfect CMY values:

(thats not even black, its a dark blue in the original image but dark colors just look so much richer)

An important step to make sure you arent doubling up on the black values though is to divide the image by it's own "value" (the max of all 3 color channels) that way the value is equal to 1 everywhere, and you're letting the black ink take care of the value on its own.

Now obviously the grids of dots cant be aligned perfectly with each other because you'd just get a bunch of black dots in unwanted areas, but if the grids are misaligned, then some dots become more prominent than others which tints the whole image. This was an issue because older printing methods didn't have great accuracy and these grids were often misaligned.

The solution was to rotate these grids such that they can move around freely while getting rid of that tint effect if they aren't perfectly aligned :D

(I have no idea how they came up with these angles but that might be something to look into in the future who knows)

SPEAKING OF MISALIGNMENT

I wanted to implement that in my own filter to get some cool effects, and I discovered another reason CMYK is better than CMY for lots of stuff !!

With CMY, you're relying on the combination of 3 color channels to make the color black. This means if you have thin lines or just details in general, misalignment can make those details very fuzzy. Since CMYK uses a single color of ink to handle value, it reduces color fringing and improves clarity a lot even if you have the exact same misalignment as CMY!

ANYWAY I just thought there was a lot of cool information in this tiny little day project, I also just think it looks really neat and wanted to share what I learned :3c

EDITING BECAUSE THERE'S ONE MORE THING I WANTED TO ADD

So, I talked about how to get K in addition to CMY instead of just CMY, but how exactly do you separate CMY from an image in the first place?

Well, CMY is a subtractive color space, meaning the "absence of color" is white, compared to RGB where it's black. This makes sense because ofc ink is printed on white paper. You can use dot product to get the "similarity" between two vectors, and this can be used to separate RGB actually! Using the dot product of a color and red (255,0,0) will give you just the red values of the image. This is cool though because if we get the dot product of our image and the color cyan (0,255,255), we can get the cyan values from our image too! If we first divide our colors by their value to separate the value from them, then separate CMY using those dot product values, and using K for our final black color value, our individual color passes end up looking like this:

While it's called a "subtractive" color space, I find it more intuitive to treat white as the absence of color here, and then multiply all these passes together. It makes it much easier to understand how the colors are combined imo. Notice how cyan is the opposite of red: (255,0,0) vs (0,255,255) and magenta and yellow are the opposites of green and blue respectively! This means you can actually kinda get away with separating the RGB values and just inverting some stuff to optimize this, but this example is much more intuitive and readable so I won't go too deep into that. Everything else was something someone wanted really bad but he happened to fill up the categories perfectly! “I understand but why in front of all the others?” It was pretty obvious as to why the others didn’t know about the relationship going on between you too, but wouldn’t they be the first to know?

“Ha! They would be the last ones to know about such a thing Cher.” The speed that he can change moods scares you quite a bit. Even with it being as simple as him being tired to him enjoying the presence he brought to the room.

alright- bare with me because my thoughts are everywhere lol

random various au information:

the fear entites are instead more general gods, much like those from various mythologies (greek, norse, egyption, etc.) like the eye, rather than an entity that feeds on the fear of being watched, is rather the god of knowledge and sight!

all of the gods have influence over the world, some mortals will devote themselves to one specific god entirely, others will become devout to multiple, and some will simply be neutral among all 14 and live life out as they please.

avatars are mortals who have been blessed with power by the gods while creatures (like mr spider, the not them, etc) are simply beings who have been born into the world by the gods power seeping into it. artifacts are items that have either been blessed/cursed by the gods or avatars, or have been affected by the gods power seeping into the world also.

theres multiple sects, cults, and churches for each god much like how many real life religions have different sects with their own rules and standards. some have beef, others do not.

the gods themselves are entirely morally neutral, they have their own interconnected relationships with eachother, and kind of view mortals as pets in a way, picking favorites and seeing them as of lesser importance in comparison to themselves.

since the gods here arent necessarily evil and theyre actually sentient beings, their titles are changed to be more fitting (the mother of puppets -> the mother of fate as an example)

the story is set in an era resembling the early 1900s because idk. vibes are neat i guess

thats all the basic world building crumbs for now, ill go deeper into it when i have more art and story stuff ready!

Jonah magnus is basically eye jesus. thousands of years prior to the start of the story, the eye favored him and he became a messiah of sorts.

the House of Magnus is a church sect of the eye founded in what is now london. but it doesnt operate JUST as a simple church. many sects of the eye devote themselves to gaining knowledge of the world around them and the House of Magnus is no different there. operating with a library, research centre and all. the research not just on history and knowledge, but also the holy and divine. documenting stories that deal with the divine powers and researching cursed/blessed artifacts aswell.

its a common legend that if one tells their story under the eyes watch (either in a church of the eye or directly to an avatar of the eye) that theyll receive good fortune and foresight, and since the House of Magnus has become a well known sect of the eye, many will come far and wide to detail their accounts under its roof

all of this documentation leads down to the Magnus Mythos, a large archive under the church where the written documents are filed, curated and cared for by the head Archivist. as such, the position of Archivist has become a most sacred role among worshippers of the eye comparable to the head of the church itself.

they arent just revered for their care of the mythos (though the devotees of the eye view the care of documented knowledge to be a sacred and ever important responsibility) Theres a prophecy, hand woven by the Mother of Fate herself, one that states an ordinary archivist will one day be gifted by all 14 of the gods and awaken the great change, bringing about a new and blessed age.

but is this newest archivist even ready for such pressure and commitment? and what if the prophecy is more devious than one might think?

i think i have before but its spread out across multiple posts so i will just go ahead and put everything into one place lol

trigger warning again for light reference to s/a cause i'm referring to what happened in the odyssey

positive:

i think they have clever word play. i made a post before about how the "i've got you, don't worry, circe's got you now" has the neat dual meaning with "i've got you" in its positive reassuring meaning and "i've got you now" in it's sinister "you're trapped i've got you" meaning. same thing with zeus' "a foe who won't run, unlike anyone you have faced before" sounding like he means some big dangerous enemy when he's actually referring to an infant.

the songs are catchy, i must admit! the musical scores are impressive too. i also like how the use the instruments to tell the story. like how each character has an instrument thats associated with them, and how you can tell the penelope in suffering is not actually penelope because her signature instrument is missing. neat stuff. i also like how eurylochus' instrument is the crew themselves.

negative:

i think some of their creative liberties undermine the point of the story or just do it a disservice, something i've said before in other posts. to be specific, i feel they have made this into a story of a Good character who turns ruthless after everything he's had to endure, and while that is an interesting story to explore, it's not odysseus' story. odysseus is, for lack of a better word, morally gray from the start. i think morally gray is really too simplistic to describe him as he is a rather complex character but what i mean is he is not a Good guy but he's not entirely a Bad guy either, you know? the odyssey is not about a honorable hero who sacrifices his morals by the end, it's a guy who's already kinda questionable who continues to do questionable things at times. for example "lets lead from the heart, see what starts" is just not something he would really say 😭😭 also in monster when he says "what if ive been far too kind to foes" hes not really kind to his foes. yes, he is capable of mercy, but hes not always approaching things with a "lets be kind ❤️" attitude.

having him spare polyphemus out of mercy was stupid to me, personally. in the odyssey he doesn't kill polyphemus because he needs him to move the boulder blocking the cave exit, and also, given his size, odysseus isn't fully certain they can kill him. blinding him instead of killing him was not an act of mercy, it was a strategic choice. and also having them kill his sheep first was senseless to me. the whole thing in the odyssey is polyphemus is in the wrong, and odysseus is in the right. they don't kill his sheep immediately, and polyphemus violates xenia, because polyphemus doesn't care about xenia. this why odysseus feels comfortable to reveal his name at the end, because he knows he's in the right, and he assumes he has delivered a punishment in accordance with the gods for the violation polyphemus has committed. it's still unwise of him to do so, but at least you can see where he's coming from. in epic it kind of makes no sense because they came into his house, killed his sheep, and then he reveals his name and home address after that?!:?:?:? and then athena fucking off forever like okay?:$:?:?: what was that about.

circe saga really irked me, aside from the compliments i've already given. they removed the aspect of him having to sleep with circe by just having him say no. the situation is not this simple. he literally could not say no. one, because hermes already warned him on the way there not to say no to anything she asks of him and two because shes literally a goddess. like yes the moly protects him from her spells but she could still very much kill him if she wanted. and there's also the factor of her having his men captive as swine. in the odyssey this shows you how powerless he is before the gods, which, is a pretty important aspect of the odyssey! also it's just simply unlike circe, as a character, to be like "ah i'm so moved by your faithfulness and acts of kindness i think i will just let your men go and aid your journey for absolutely nothing in return ❤️" whole saga just came off very sanitized. curious as to how they intend to approach calypso.

underworld saga like i said before its the sudden switch of him being about "leading from the heart" and "kindess" to "then i'll become the monster" like woah... just felt like abrupt 180 to me. and again it just annoys me in general cause this character arc is simply not accurate for him 😭 i've also said this before somewhere but sometimes i feel like the odysseus in epic is more like an oc than an adaptation of homer's odysseus. hence why i see him as a completely separate character (and get annoyed when people conflate them as one)

thunder saga i had more minor gripes with like the fact that odysseus also had the beeswax in his ears unlike in the odyssey where he doesn't and has his men tie him to the mast while he listens. this is just simply because i thought a song from odysseus' perspective while he's deluded by the siren song and begging to be untied would have been really interesting. but oh well ☹️ i actually will admit i didn't complete hate the change with his mens death for the cattle. obviously, in the odyssey, he's not given a choice by zeus—they kill the cattle, they leave eventually, zeus strikes the ship and odysseus is the sole survivor. however i do think this is interesting to explore. odysseus obviously cares very deeply for his men, and would do near anything to bring them home. he's not the type to just sacrifice them willy nilly like they don't matter. (the bit in the circe saga where eurylochus wants to leave them behind and odysseus says no we need to at least try is biblically accurate, that does happen in the odyssey) but at the end of the day... getting back to penelope trumps all else. so would he, do you think? if he had been given the choice, would he let them all die to see her again? i think he would have. especially by that point. so that's one change i'm like, okay, that's kind of interesting. i don't hate this.

so overall, theres multiple things i do like about it! and i do appreciate the creativity and effort that's gone into the project and it always makes me happy to see people passionate about greek mythology. i just think they've lost the plot a little. i feel like it's become a story about a Good man who continuously gets punished for being good until he caves to ruthlessness which like i said, is an interesting concept, but just not the story of the odyssey.

The Taenarum Moon Revolution was caused by one of Hypnos's moons getting mad that the planets didn't have restricted orbits. With her resolve, she gathered some of the moons who agreed with her sentiment and led an attack. Thankfully, it ended like the revolution in Solarballs. And fun fact, it happened because the Taenarum System moons heard of the Solar System Moon Revolution! In an AU, where the Solar System planets inhabit the Taenarum System, it would be stopped by Titan, since he doesn't want a repeat of his actions to happen again, lest in a Planet System with a planet with 1000+ moons. (answer each individually!)

Lee Kanker is in last place. She gets lower than F tier. Where Marie and May had moments where they seemed to genuinely care about each other, Lee just sits there, manipulates, and spreads cruelty. And as for the times where Marie and May were fighting/being mean etc? Well, I have a theory. Remember in Big Picture Show where we see that Lee has a third eye? You know who else has a third eye for no good reason…?

I REALLY wish we could have seen more of what happened to Jonny post Big Picture Show. Him being “The Gourd” and having a villain arc just sounds super fun. Other than that he’s just a weird kid. I like him.

Don’t let Jimmy fool y’all. He’s a lil maniac. He probably gets it from Sarah. And it’s always a shocker to me given how much he acts so innocent and harmless. He’s a pretty neat anti hero.

I KNOW I SHOULD HATE SARAH. But I feel like there’s more to her than meets the eye. I honestly think her parents taught her the hate her big brother. If they weren’t around, she probably wouldn’t been to mean to him. Making me feel extremely sympathetic for both of them. And at least she looks after Jimmy, giving her redeeming qualities.

To be honest this show needs a character like Nazz. Everything has to be balanced out with someone who isn’t constantly out to get something, being mean, or acting like a weirdo. But yes, she does have her moments, which are rightfully deserved. Plus, I just really like her chill and hippie way of going about.

Marie Kanker and May Kanker are being ranked together. The potential they have to be redeemed is through the roof. They deserve so much better. If Lee wasn’t around to mess with their heads, I think they would be truly happy. Marie could spend her days jamming out and living on the edge, while May is cute and ditzy and a voice of reason at times. Plus both of their hairstyles are really eye candy for me.

The Ed boys are also being ranked together. What else can I say that hasn’t been said already? The way these three bounce off of each other is extremely enjoyable and definitely gets good laughs out of me. I know they have their moments where they aren’t so friendly, but you don’t always have to get along with someone for you to still love them. And when the gentle giant goof, the soft hearted nerd, and the selfish man with a heart of gold do get along, it’s sweeter than jawbreakers :)

AND NOW WE HAVE ARRIVED AT THE TRUE GOD. THE LIGHT IN DARK TIMES. THE DIAMOND WITHIN THE DIRT. THE ONLY BOY ON THE SHOW WITH A GOOD HAIRCUT.

ROLF. THE SON OF A SHEPHERD.

Rolf is hands down one of if not the best side character in animation history. He’s a goober for one thing. But a goober that’s gets us to take him seriously. You do not mess with this man. His pride is enough to break you leg. And yet, he still manages to be one of the nicest characters in the show. He’s so friendly and upbeat! And when he isn’t… his dark side is also a fun time.

And another thing, he’s a fish out of water. Which also allows the viewer to feel sympathetic for him. Like in Wish You Were Ed. Seeing Rolf cry is something you’d never think you’d see, but when you do, it makes you feel a somber emotion you had no idea existed. It’s amazing.

re: that one quote that absolutely emotionally obliterated a decent chunk of the fandom

alright fuckin bear with me i have some Thoughts and Feelings about particularly how the Close-Foster-Swifts deal with a) parenting and b) intergenerational trauma Anthony: 'As you're saying this, without even wanting it to, tears are rolling down your cheeks. And in that moment, you, and Taylor, and Nick all realise... That there is no fixing this. That this is as good as it's going to get. That you are stuck with each other in the forms that you are now.' this fucking DESTROYED ME and, from what i can tell, a lot of other people in the fandom also. i think this brings up some really important points that resonate w/ me personally about intergenerational trauma, and that are super important to talk about like with the wilsons and the oaks, they manage to (in varying degrees) realise what they did wrong, or what they could do better, and actively try to do better. they actively try to go out of their way to fix things, which is great! breaking that cycle is important, and it takes a while, but they're trying. with the stamplers (+ marlowes), specifically ron and terry jr, they do the 'acknowledging i havent been good enough' to 'trying my best to be what you deserve' pipeline and its Beautiful. and we get a little of that with terry jr and scary too, with terry jr just trying to do his best and scary slowly coming around to realise that she does, actually, care about her stepdad. and its so wholesome and good. it really pays homage to the ron and terry jr relationship i feel, where they end up before he died (F). BUT THE CLOSE/FOSTER/SWIFT FAMILY. i fucking. it hurts. but its the one that hits the closest to home. 'This is as good as it's going to get' fucking resonated with me. im sure it resonated with a lot of people. intergenerational trauma and the effects it has on people is such a core theme of dndads, and the way its handled so differently through each family line is honestly artful. but an important part of the story of intergenerational trauma is when it's not something that you can fix, or go back and apologise for, or something that you can become better from. sometimes trauma just is. sometimes you can't recover from it. families will break up, lineages will die out, stories and lives will be forgotten. and as tragic as that is, as much as it hurts, it's so real. in a way, its a double-edged sword that they all still talk to each-other, that they still cling to what they have, what they wanted to have. especially in the case of Taylor, who does spend a lot of the series with questions about his dad but ultimately thinking he's pretty neat, to then break down to wishing there was time travel so Nicky could be there for him, so they could re-do childhood. i just. screams. thats such a pivotal moment for him. to finally come to terms with and admit the fact that no, things aren't okay, this isn't what he wanted, and if given the chance he would go back and fix them himself. that his father, and his father's father, have failed to do it, and now it falls upon his shoulders. (this also resonates very well with the whole 'our parents unleashed the doodler and both our grandparents and parents failed to fix it so now that's our burden to bear') i wonder if we'll ever get to know if the teens from this series go on to have families. if Lincoln ever introduces his children to grandpa Grant, or if Normal ever feels, well. normal enough to even consider the possibility of raising kids. if Scary ever takes her children to visit Terry Jr's grave, or tells them about his exploits, or recounts to them the things he did for her before she grew to appreciate him. i wonder if Taylor will ever even consider the concept of having a family, upon looking back like this at his own, upon knowing first-hand the stakes if he gets it wrong. would he think that he can break the cycle? that he could be better? or is it, truly, as good as it's going to get?

thinking about them ( blair - takenaka hotaru , the guardian ) and how much they love lumax ( the ghost with the most, the best blorbo )

like i cannot stress how much hotaru and lumax are so inseparable that i consider them to be two halves of a whole. functionally you cannot have a guardian without their ghost, sure - a ghost is literally the prerequisite to BE a capital g Guardian, your connection to the light of the traveler , and the reason why guardians can't stay dead and are functionally immortals. and yes, the young wolf and little light ( the player character and ghost ) care for each other! there are also guardians and ghosts who hate each other . katabasis from presage comes to mind, specifically- his ghost kept rezzing him so he could die repeatedly. & to a lesser extent, the drifter and his ghost also do not get along, at all. but i'd argue that hotaru and lumax are closer than even the young wolf and little light are.

on this blog, hotaru and lumax will always be presented as two halves of the same "character" of the guardian. outside of that, you'll probably notice that lumax pops up even in non-destiny aus. she can be hotaru's human bestie, a spider that bites her & travels with her in earth-404, an A/I hotaru programs, a robot hotaru builds, or even just Hotaru's Cat. but the constant is that somehow, some way, hotaru and lumax always find each other, because they are two halves of a whole. and i think that's beautiful. you can't truly have hotaru without lumax, and you can't have lumax without hotaru. they are inseperable & they genuinely love each other & consider each other family in a way that transcends the ghost / guardian bond. hotaru protects lumax out of love and respect, and lumax would lay down her life for hotaru as much as they actively try to discourage her from doing so because hotaru fears the person she would become without her.

and on that note, fun fact: hotaru actually sleeps curled up around lumax! either that or lumax will nestle in her hair or hotaru will cradle her to their generator. it goes all the way back from hotaru's initial resurrection - the first thing lumax heard when she succeeded was hotaru's heartbeat and the whir from her generator, and the first thing she felt was being held by her guardian's hands. it also stems from the fact that hotaru and lumax are from the dark ages, a period in destiny lore thats ruled by violence and some Evil Ass Lightbearers called warlords. it's a survival instinct for hotaru to protect her smaller-than average ghost at all times as much as it is for comfort. lumax WILL cry if she's forcibly separated from her guardian and hotaru will do ANYTHING to get her ghost back, which has resulted in serious violence on hotaru's part. the quickest way to make an enemy of hotaru is to upset lumax, and the quickest way to get lumax to absolutely despise you is to upset hotaru. you cannot have one of them without the other. hotaru will not even consider being friends with you if you aren't at least civil or kind to her ghost.

just like you can't have lightning without thunder, you can't have hotaru without lumax. and i think that's neat.

i was expecting a lot more from prime but this is very very clearly not the end, it's clearly not even the whole of season 1 and is being split up into different release chunks for netflix (like glitch techs is 1 season but was released in two seperate chunks as "seasons 1 and 2"). i personally hoped to see more worlds, but i'm also glad what we DID see was fleshed out. i was expecting a more episodic format in terms of visiting the worlds so i'm happy we get to spend actual time in each of them and get to know the characters and their problems

i'm wondering if sonic erased his original friends out of existence when he shattered the paradox prism (like how green hill doesnt exist anymore) or if they also landed in different worlds. or the void. or something else entirely

speaking of green hill, isn't it super weird that they just... decided all of sonic's world is green hill. i guess it's for budgetary reasons? and to control the scope? but it's super fucking weird right, like, i'm not the only one that thinks that's weird? there are. other places in sonic's world. sonic doesn't live ANYWHERE he just ends up in green hill a lot. maybe it's also for a point of comparison, like how the loop-de-loop is always in the same place? just to have more solid landmarks to see what's different. i just wish they did that with like. multiple areas of the world. instead of multiple landmarks of Just Green Hill

i dont love p5 its not my favirote, but i think its such simple things as like it might not be a part that suits my taste. it also have a lot of characters i really could be bothered to care for one way or the other. like i love bruno a lot i think hes sooo well written, and trish is great... i think mista and naracia are fun.. mm.. i dont really think i care much for any other characters? in that part? shrug

but also like pacing and not having character who just flow with the narrative. i know they all have their excuses as to why but everything works its way to where its supposes to go so quick and easy with no hiccups or anything. nothing feels suprising or interesting, just feels like its happening. which i guess is the theme of destiny at play

but the only time i was engaged witha character ard was probably Bruno. i Really love trish but she does NOT get enough time to shine she really doesn't

and im not a fugo hater im just a fugo neutral, i did REALLY like araki's choice to stick to fugo's character in that moment and have him not go with.

i think im just not that into a lot of characters and i dont know if thats something that can be 'fixed' lol like their characters arnt bad, i just dont care for them. except Giorno. i think Giorno was written bad. i think Giorno has soooo much potential to be a very fun character, but araki blew it imo

i think! trish and giorno shoulda been one role. Because giorno and trish both have fun neat personalities that we dont get to actually explore and enjoy because araki kinda side lined them. even Giorno in his own part. Like Giorno gets more screentime at least... but Trish kinda takes what Giorno coulda been with the complexities of the history of his father and does it actually good. I just think Giorno/Trish fill out similar roles but trish is more enjoyable at filling out the role but gets less screentime than giorno who already feels like a tourist in his own part. idk! i think i just wish Trish played a bigger part and was the one who got to kill her dad...

also id change that fucking last batch of story with them following requiem for wht felt like a million episodes, that the fuck was that...

found P5 sooo slow and boring at times and very unengaging. i often forgot Giorno was there and literally couldn't remember his name until a lil over halfway through watching p5. Depite growing up in the area, he acts like he knows fucking nothing and is a tourist rather than a long term citizen. Barely any on the team pays much attention to him and no one feels like their friends despite establishing they have been together for years and care about each other. and im not talking about the silly bullying each other like pour soda on naracia speakers. It just feels like their all their own separate guys who sometimes remember they care about each other, or remember Giorno is there.

Shauna: OK LETS TALK ABOUT SHAUNA!!!! I don't think I paid much attention to her as a kid but now adays I love picking apart her character. She's by far the most flexible of the the Rivals. In the game she's Sweet but doesn't seem to have a whole lot going on besides being really supportive and upbeat and I may have missed something while replaying the story of X but I don't think she really had a unique goal? Besides being the Rival who has the starter weak to yours. Which SUCKS cause she's such a charming character for what she is in the games. I know she states she's enjoys making memories with you and her friends and honestly I wish they did more with that. Shauna could have been the Rival who was in it for the adventure! maybe have a scrap book of all the things she saw and enamored with exploring the region. In the Anime (my personal favorite version of her due to nostalgia) She's energetic and social and has a established dream a goal! She wants to be a performer, she wants to be Kalos queen and knowing she succeeds brought me a lot of joy! I love that she's not above snarky remarks, I LOVE IT! She's a teen girl and Im glad she acts like one. To this day the playful "You're so slow" directed at Trevor in the summer camp arc lives rent free in my head. You can FEEL that they've know each other since for as long as she can remember. Or her "wow you don't know anything!" when talking to Serena and Bonnie about Pokémon showcases like YES I LOVE THAT! It doesn't really feel mean but rather like she's being playful. In the manga (I love her so much in the manga) the bluntness is bumped up to a 10, I lost my mind when she calls Trevor a wimp. She makes a snide remark about X or Y and again it doesn't feel mean spirited rather that's she's really comfortable with them and calling it as she sees it. And honestly I love that. She's down to earth. She's not afraid to call bullshit and make a scene if she has too. AND despite all that she's still a 12? (based on X's wiki age being listed at 12) year old girl who's still sensitive and has moments of vulnerability. She cried over her furfrou she cried when she hurt Viola while under the influence of Honedge. Then cried harder when Y scolded her before Y ALSO burst into tears. She cried over Pokemon getting hurt. like SHE STILL CARES DEEPLY SHE JUST ACTS TOUGH. (Also furfro groomer Shauna was so neat too! I'm just bias to Performer Shauna because pokemon performances blew my mind as a kid and still do)

Tierno: I often feel bad that when I was younger I didn't really like Tierno all that much as a character because when I got back into XY I was like WOW HES SUCH A COOL CHARACTER. ESPECIALLY IN THE MANGA. In the games he's a sweet kid who loves dancing and is self admittedly not that great at battling. He often gets distracted by the moves the Pokémon are using rather than the battle itself and that's really sweet. In the anime he's a skilled battler that integrated his love of dancing into battling and going so far as to use that to deflect opponents. He has a rhythm with his Pokémon and it strengthens their bond in a way that isn't as traditional as most other trainers and its COOL. And in the Manga he's sweet but not a pushover. He loves his friends, cares deeply for those around him, and went so far as to take care of X's Pokémon while X locked himself away. He wants just as much as the others for X to come back out of his shell but when X blows up on him early on he stands his ground while remaining civil about it. I was in awe of his sheer strength. He can do a flip on skates while carrying Shauna and Trevor like!? THATS SO BADASS ACTUALLY. and while he doesn't battle a whole lot in the manga he can handle himself pretty well. I love that his weight is not used as a joke. He's a fat kid who loves dancing and never he's a fat kid isn't that soooo funny like no its not funny I'm glad he's just allowed to exist as he is and love dancing. I love that the manga made his strong and sweet. I'm sad that he like the Kalos rivals as a whole tend to be ranked really low on tier lists or are just blatantly forgotten due to the time constraints and the in Game story suffering because of it. (READ THE XY MANGA PLEASE I BEG YOU IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE)

Trevor: I've talked about Trevor a ton because I constantly put him through the horrors. But It's wild to know that of all the kids Trevor has this vague hidden lore just chucked into an interaction with his sister if you just happen to talk to every npc and end up in the right house in Jaune Plaza. Its just sitting there. It really makes me think he was intended to be a bigger character in the games. I felt like I interreacted with him the most while replaying the games so maybe he was. He's your Dex rival. he wants to fill the pokedex and its not until you happen to talk to his sister that you find out why he's so fixated on doing it. Its like he's coping with the fact his parent's left him to train Pokémon. Trevor is also not the best at battling in the group so maybe filling the Dex is the next best thing to him. And the lack of parents is never touched upon in the manga or the anime as far as I'm aware so its just this little piece of trivia sitting abandoned in the game. I love that Trevor despite being shy is kind of snooty in the anime. He can be full of himself or a bit of a smartass at times and I like that. Makes him feel less like "oh he's just the shy kid" and more like he's a teen boy who can be a bit full of himself its a welcomed change of pace. I love that the anime makes him a photographer. Its a neat idea. Making a Photo Dex is so unique and the fact he's determined to photograph every Pokémon and hopefully discover a new one is sick! The scene where he's geeking out about Spewpa (I think?) is cute. Like of course he as a photographer and a huge nerd is gonna notice the little things. And in the manga they just commit to him being a huge Pokémon buff by making him a Professor. His dynamic with Sycamore is just Adoptive father and son to me because of the manga and the one in game interaction. Trevor clearly looks up to sycamore but even better is in the manga Sycamore RESPECTS HIM. And of all people Sycamore is (by game lore) the only known positive adult figure in his life. I like to think sycamore has been helping his sister and him for years and honestly the thought that Trevor probably has slipped up and called sycamore dad and then died inside is so funny to me. (Unrelated tangent but I love that they keep giving Trevor scary dog privileges with huge Pokémon twice his size being on his team like why do you have an Aerodactyl and a Tyrantrum Trevor!? and I love that he specializes in Fairy egg and Fossil Pokémon exclusively in the games like what a weird restriction but also a fun one)

X/Calem: WHY ISNT HE IN THE ANIME WHY WHYYYY. I love X a lot. I like the concept of his character I like his dynamic with his friend group and the fact that he clearly has a favorite (Trevor)/j. But more than anything I love that X is a burned out gifted junior trainer. One who locked himself in his room to avoid the fame. Its such a neat angle to go with for a Rival. He never deserved to have his privacy invaded so consistently. He never deserved for people, grown adults even, to disrespect his boundaries. And the fact of the matter is that it traumatized him. Enough to give up what he loved. it's so upsetting and yet so real. His whole arc is one I really enjoy. His trauma feels real. His depression and anger breathe a lot of credibility to it. Child stardom does tend to do a lot of harm. He felt so unsafe to the point he chose to shut himself away to avoid it. And it wasn't even just him it was his Pokémon too. He didn't want them involved with what he saw as his problem. its just GOD!! I know he doesnt have an anime counterpart but personally I think an anime Calem could have worked. They made a rival for ash in the series and I get that they tend to avoid making anime rivals based on the male player character cause that's what Ash is meant to represent but like DUDE. In my mind an anime verse Calem (as opposed to X and game Calem) is a really lax dude who loves being a trainer (And just happend to be really good at it). He like the rest of the rivals in the anime could have been traveling separately (Maybe even returning from traveling abroad for training) and been introduced in the Summer camp set of episodes along side the other rivals. How funny would it have been if he recognized serena as his neighbor. I have more thoughts on an anime Calem but I feel like at some point ill just make him real and properly flesh him out.

Y/Serena: Honestly I've always played as the female player character and since Cal and Serena are the same as far as I'm aware in the games I'm gonna jump to the anime. UNPOPULAR (?) TAKE BUT I HATED ANIME SERENA FOR A LONG TIME. I know why of course. I was mad because of how much they pushed the crush on Ash. It really pushed me away from her character. I never liked how it ended up reducing her character at times to "she likes Ash" when there was so much they could have done with her. I've since come to accept that its not her as a character I hate but how she was handled that I hated. I like her dynamic with Bonnie in the anime. They act like sisters and its fun to watch them hang out. I liked her in the first 2 episodes when we see her interacting with her mom. I like her being bitter about her mom pushing her to train as a Rhyhorn racer. I like her making snide remarks about it. I like the episode where she teaches ash how to Race. I like episodes where the focus is on her and not on her Crush. I just wish she had of been more than what they made her at times. In the games your rival is a skilled trainer. Why couldn't Serena have been? I never really saw the chemistry between them and it really hurt Serenas character. I like parts of her but I feel like there was more that could have been done. IN COMPARISON Y IS SO WELL DONE. Shes pissed her mom kept putting her in the spotlight and being expected to follow in her footsteps so instead she becomes a sky trainer!? BAD ASS AND REALLY FUNNY. Shes the groups glue and holding them together!? INTERESTING! Shes stubborn but well meaning?! COOL. Shes a strong trainer and a force to be reckoned with!? SICK! Despite her strained relationship with her mom she still worries about and misses her!? NICE! Y is what I wished Anime serena could have been. I don't mean that to down play Anime Serena I've come to like her but Y is so strong of a character while Serena was just beginning to get there. I wouldn't say I want A!Serena to be Y I just think if she had at least one of Ys characteristics she would have been stronger. If I was given the chance to change Serena in the anime Id keep the Performer aspect and the lack of serious interest in battling those are fine but I'd think adding naturals leadership skills or hell having her develop an enjoyment for racing would have given her a little more grip. at the end of the day I want her to be better because I do care about her character

Clemont: Anime Clemont my beloved. Watching this kid fail time and time again only to keep trying is everything. I like his dynamic with Bonnie in the anime he's a good older brother stern with her but not mean to her. Keeping dedenne for her until shes old enough to be a trainer. Protecting her when theres danger. Correcting her behavior. You can tell he cares about her and it never feels like he hates or resents her. I like his dynamic with Ash in the anime they really admire each other. His whole deal being that Ash gives him the confidence to venture out of his comfort zone is sweet and fun to watch. I love seeing his wacky invention of the day. And I LOVE CLEMBOT BAYBE!!! Anime Clemont is really fun to watch in general. Hes sweet yet very awkward but doing his best to better himself. I like how much he cares for his Pokémon and his friends. I find the running gag that hes a terrible runner funny. I think about how much that backpack must weigh too given his inventions. I love his team in the anime straying from that of the games with Bunnelby and Chespin being my favorites. Overall I understand why I liked him so much when I was younger because hes just enjoyable to watch (Talking about the anime cause my memory of Manga and Game Clem is basically sticker residue)

Bonnie: I ADORE BONNIE. Usually I have the hardest time enjoying little kid characters in a show because they tend to be written for the sake of annoyance or just poorly developed but Bonnie is a delight. She's a kid yeah she does childish things but its never pushed to the point where its actually grating to me. She gets upset, sometimes irrationally so but she's a child. That makes sense for her character. Like her puffing her cheeks and arguing that she wanted to hug Pikachu because it was cute only for Clemont to ask if Pikachu liked it is Kid behavior. and she apologizes when corrected that good! her finding every Pokémon super cute or getting sleepy because it past her usual bedtime its like YEAH she's like 6 -8 ish if I had to guess. She loves taking care of pokemon and I kind of wished we got to see her as a trainer starting her own journey. I love the bit of her trying to find clemont a wife because like SHES A KID SHE DOESNT FULLY GRASP THE WEIGHT OF THAT SHE JUST WANTS SOMEONE TO KEEP AN EYE ON HER BROTHER CAUSE SHE CARES ABOUT HIM. I love bonnie focused episodes. She's very well done for a little sibling character
