Palo and Tigran standing casually in place to provide an outfit reference.
They are wearing the most typical day to day clothing for Galenii monks. This consists of three main parts:
-A simple, ankle-length sleeveless robe (white in initiate monks and black in the fully initiated). -A dark woolen cloak, which doubles as a blanket. This cloak is the foundational item of clothing throughout much of Imperial Wardin as a whole, and worn by all social classes. They tend to be cut shorter and highly decorative in the upper classes, serving only the practical purpose of shielding the arms from the sun. Poor laborers may wear only the cloak and a loincloth and nothing else. In the case of Galenii monks, it is standardized, simple, and dark blue-gray. -The sash. This is a very long scarf that is the primary visual signifier of a Galenii monk. Its open ends drape down the front side of the body and are tied at the chest. It is slung over the shoulders and hangs in a loop around the back. These sashes are dyed an expensive royal blue, indicating the significance and relative esteemed status of this religious order.
Additional elements:
-The sign of the horns: a small iron pin used to fasten the cloak. This is the symbol of the Lunar Face Of God (the specific aspect to which the Galenii are devoted, which is primarily associated with fertility and the cycles of sacrifice and rebirth). This is very common among monks but not standardized wear. Galenii priests wear the sign of the triple horns (though more commonly as an amulet).
-Ear piercings: Galenii monks and priests wear thick earrings of dark meteoric iron and stretch their earlobes. One is added to each ear for each year of the initiatory process. Palo is a year in, and Tigran is fully initiated and has five bands per ear. Body modification is exceptionally rare in Imperial Wardi culture, largely in relation to taboos surrounding body integrity. The exception here is done with great significance and care- these earrings can be made only with true meteoric iron, considered to be the blood of God Itself. Permanently marking their bodies with this metal signifies this priesthood's integral connection to maintaining the continual cycle of sacrifice/rebirth that is believed to keep God's domain stable, and binds them to this role.
-Sandals: usually very simple in construction. Monks are often expected to go barefoot, but the cities are quite dirty so most prefer to avoid this if possible.
-Ceremonial dagger: a sign of a fully initiated monk. It is curved and its sheath is decorated with a tuft of lion's mane (a signal of the Galenii order's close connection to the Odonii order). Most of its uses are ceremonial, but it will be periodically used to perform animal sacrifices. A smaller razor blade is kept in the home for personal bloodletting.
-Hair: Fully initiated monks shave their heads, while those in the process of initiation have relative freedom with hair dressing. Palo is wearing his hair in a single braid tucked around the front. Broadly speaking, braiding the hair is associated with female beauty standards throughout much of Imperial Wardin (though generally in two braids). There is no cultural convention Against men doing so, but it is regarded as mildly effeminate (particularly in the south and southeast).
-Lore Friendly Sunglasses: Palo has photosensitive epilepsy. No effective treatments for epilepsy exist in the setting (most 'treatments' in Imperial Wardin are alchemical in nature, ie: ambiguously helpful at best or literal poison at worst), but understanding of the Nature of epilepsy as a neurological disorder is relatively accurate, and the concept of photosensitivity is loosely understood (though not with great accuracy, it's assumed to be caused by light in General). Palo had this pair of (VERY expensive) sunglasses commissioned as a youth, which Do slightly reduce the frequency of his seizures. Devastatingly stylish as they may be, his glasses do not offer much visual clarity so he only wears them in bright conditions.
#Am working on the dreaded Art Fight References#Also height comparison. Palo looks taller than he is because he's skinny as fuck and next to a 4'9'' guy. But he's 5'10''#Which is above average height for the setting (average man is probably 5'6''-7'') but not huge#I kind of need to reintroduce these guys because I made the earliest posts about them right around when I started actually writing#and a lot of their background lore has changed.#Namely their upbringings- most of the cast of the White Calf are stupid wealthy Imperial Wardi elites and I needed these guys to be like...#Normal people.#Tigran is still from a branch of a family that is wealthy in distant Ubibi but his specific branch is poor agricultural laborers living#around the lower Brilla river next to Wardin (city)#Palo is still better off but not crazy rich- his family were glass workers and traders out of Godsmouth and#would be considered middle class. Wealthy enough for occasional extravagances like sunglasses but nothing ridiculous#Most of the post-White Calf era stuff is now outdated too#AND ON ANOTHER TANGENT- most sun protective eyewear in this part of the setting is less 'elegant' (affordable sunglasses would#be mostly sheets of hammered bronze with punctured holes)#There is relatively sophisticated eyewear produced in Bur and Imperial Wardin (including some actual moderately useful glasses for#correcting visual impairment) but good pairs are prohibitively expensive and made by dedicated craft workers#Palo's pair would have cost about a year of his father's wages#palo apolynnon#tigran otto#the white calf

Thinking about Life is Strange 2 and the absolute dust it got paid compared to the other games in the series. It's the ONLY video game I've ever played where someone in the story has Special Magic Powers, but it's not you. It's your little brother. And your father has been killed in a police shootout, and your little brother is just a kid who is so confused and terrified that he levels a whole block with a telekinetic boom. And then you, a teenager just a few years older, have to guide him to safety and try to parent him and help him use his powers for good while also dealing with the same traumas in your own life.
Also, there's a level where you just clip weed buds. Phenomenal game.
#i think about this game constantly actually#i think it mostly got hate because the two romantic options were white people with dread locks#which is a fair thing to hate on#the romance was honestly pretty subpar#but the core of the game? the relationship between the two brothers in conversation with literally earth-shattering trauma?#the other games just arent as emotionally gutting im sorry#and i love the other games too#but god i think about lis2 almost every day#and its been over 3 years since i finished it#i think from what ive read a lot of people found it less accessible than the other games due to the subject matter#but idk i mean im not from an immigrant family and ive never dealt with family death at the hands of police#but this game hooked me emotionally WAY more than the first or third game#its so special to me#life is strange 2#lis2

random sunbringer's song thoughts
so, i think it's canon to bg3/d&d lore in general that there are no physical symptoms associated with being infected with a mind flayer parasite.
but i've decided that, in the specific timeline of sunbringer's song, there *are* some tells that someone is infected.
(putting the rest under the cut just in case this gets squicky for anybody--cw for talk of worms and parasites going inside people's heads)
for about 12-36 hours after the initial infection, the eye the worm entered through is red and swollen, visibly bloodshot, with pupils blown wide.
after the initial swelling goes down, there will be a red ring around the corners of their eye that lasts for another few days, and after a week has passed the swelling and redness is healed entirely.
at that point, the affected eye will begin to develop a thin ring of white around the pupil. the longer the person remains infected without either dying or removing the parasite, the more prominent the ring will become.
if you look into an infected person's eye at just the right angle, you can see the reflection of the parasite through that ring of white.
#multi makes text posts#my in universe explanation for why none of this is common knowledge?#the vast VAST majority of people infected with a mind flayer parasite die within the first week#eden and co. are very rare exceptions and therefore none of them are familiar with these symptoms#but after a while. they'll start picking up on this#and will get to experience a dawning sense of dread as they realize how many people around them have those white rings in their eyes :)#bg3: sunbringer's song#did i decide this entirely to justify volo looking into eden's eye and going EGAD WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT#yeahg#eden linnaeus

Was reading some of Stefania's fashion articles for Bluszcz from the late 20s yesterday and realized the one feature of contemporary European fashion that would likely shock her the most is Tattoos. In one article from 1928 she defines the term tattoo for her audience like it is specialist anthropological jargon in the context of like, Polynesian traditions. I don't think decorative body modification in the West (please imagine scare quotes around the concept of The West) would even occur to her. Facial piercings would also be temporal culture shock
#stefania tag#the second thing that would shock her in Poland specifically#is the prevalence of white people dreads

THE WHITE DOOR
He never called her “the woman he loved” until she was dead in his arms.
Her killer was a a man whom Bastian admired; but Bastian wronged him anyway, and he was savage and exacting in his vengeance. So: Bastian too is savage and exacting, and far less admirable.
Though revenge provided no abatement of his grief, it was required by the circumstances.
It is not enough by far.
He readies his companions to set out for the continent of Death itself. He knows only one man who has been there, and that man returned blinded, bitter, and heartbroken: but the dark prince loves his wife, and a knife will not keep him from her. Nor will the endless miles of the white countries, nor the threat of mutilation, nor the will of any God.
He expects horror. He will bring it himself.
His wise wife, his fairy wife: he trusts she knows that he is coming.
#in the depths of the plague our protagonist sets out to reckon with Death Itself#first of all a thousand props to Emily who did not break character for a second when Bastian found his wife murdered#she roleplayed it to the hilt#exacted a terrible revenge#and then immediately started making plans to set out for the White Door:#the dreaded gateway to the empires of the dead#along the way Bastian discovered how much each of his companions truly loved him#that although he started out viewing all of them as merely tools to facilitate his rise - he has been good to them#he took care of his people#and - to his grief-stricken amazement - they rallied to his side in his calamity#the dark prince - the villain of so many other stories - is more than just the hero of his own#he is the hero of theirs#and soon: the hero of his wife's#I'm so fucking feral to go to the white countries and watch Bastian face The Horrors to save his beloved y'all I'm going Ape Shit#heretic#dice matters

Ok tried watching the 2012 JCS live arena tour version bc that’s one a lot of people talk about but
Judas is a white man with dreads and Mary Magdalene is a white woman with dreads too
I cannot watch two hours of that
Also the camera work is horrible it’s constantly zooming in and out and changing angles but this is a stage production it’s mean to be viewed as the full stage… there’s even the screen behind for zoom ins… why is the official filmed version so jarring and incoherent and hard to watch???
Also they have a screen behind with zoom ins and stuff which is cool but they also set it in the modern day so there are text and email notifications which is funny but then one was from a Holly and I don’t want to be inserted into this :/ Jesus suffered enough he shouldn’t have to know what emails are too
#listen Judas reminds me of Jared Leto and Mary is SPORTY SPICE#the aesthetics of this are unwatchable to me <3#also making both Mary and Judas white people with dreads makes that Jesuss Type and that is unforgivable to me#I’m pretty sure both actors are white I tried to look them up

What are your thoughts on the critisism that Neomuna, and more specifically cloudstriders, feel "out of place", or the feeling some have that Lightfall has a whole has thematically defied their expecations in a bad way? (insert that comparison of the key art from the BL reveal vs the current key art here.)
Really hard to critique any aspect of it currently before we know more and play it.
A lot of stuff in Destiny can feel really odd and out of place without any context! I remember similar doubt and questions about Lucent Hive for example. For any serious critique, I'll have to see the expansion first, learn more about Neomuna and Cloud Striders and see if their story fits and has something valuable to add to the setting.
So far, I don't think they're out of place. The ECHO ships and surviving human colonies outside of Earth have been seeded almost 3 years ago and I've quite literally accurately predicted how that specific lore is tied to Neomuna. I think it's a pretty cool way to tie in an older open-ended storyline with something new that they need for an expansion.
A story about "survivors of the Collapse" is pretty much a given, as that's something that we've always wondered about in the setting. Could some humans have escaped? Could they have survived? What would've happened if they did and how would've they developed if the Collapse hadn't stopped us? Going there and examining that story can give us valuable information about our past (Golden Age and speculation on what we could've achieved if it continued) and our fall (the Collapse, how it happened, what exactly happened, how to prevent it a second time). On top of that, it's giving us super cool scifi concepts about neo-human civilisations and advanced development through nanotechnology.
And yeah, the original key art was really striking; no colours, grim, very evocative with imagery of a Pyramid eclipsing the Traveler. It was of course simply just a base for the expansion. It was a placeholder. I've seen a lot of people saying that Bungie "robbed" us of something; they did not. They cannot rob us of something that never existed. Concept art is a really long process with millions of ideas being thrown around, especially placeholder concept art.
For what it's worth, from what we know about Lightfall, the base idea for the expansion is still the same. We are very much in deep trouble, especially if we're correct in our predictions that the Traveler is about to run and if the trailer's footage of a massive battle in Earth's orbit is anything to go by. Neomuna itself is under massive siege by a new disciple and the Witness itself. There are new enemies and enemy threats that we haven't seen for a long time acting up again (the Vex).
Is the expansion much more colourful in comparison with a black and white placeholder image? Yeah. But that doesn't remove the danger the system is in. I'm not sure what people expected. Destiny is not a super edgy setting of only doom and gloom. It certainly has a basis of incredibly terrible stuff going on, but it never presents it without a balance. Even in the Red War and Forsaken, things were still colourful and beautiful and had a lot of different vibes packed together.
To me, a massive fleet of Pyramid ships descending on colourful Neomuna is an incredibly powerful image with a really visceral theme of how nobody can successfully escape the Darkness forever. You can buy yourself time, but ultimately it will find you. I think that's a pretty doom and gloom theme. I feel like the only reason people aren't seeing it is because the original was black and white, while the current is colourful.
My only proper concern is that they're introducing a whole new aspect to the setting this late. Introducing it itself is not the issue as much as that we're 2 expansions (including Lightfall) until the end. There's still a lot of stuff to go through and solve and deal with so I'm not sure how wise it is to introduce a whole new set of characters and a setting of this scale. Of course, as with the rest of the question, we can't really fully make a judgement on that before we play.
#destiny 2#lightfall#long post#ask#i really do think that people are only complaining over colours#a lot of people have this idea of how things can only be presented as bad or dread inducing or horror if they're dark#and as a horror afficionado i resent that a lot. it's an easy way out#giving us such a beautiful environment like neomuna and dropping the black fleet in the sky is so much more powerful#than if we had just everything razed to the ground and black and white and dead and dull#creating something scary or unsettling while still employing vivid colours is a true feat#films like annihilation and nope are the first that come to mind#incidentally annihilation was mentioned a lot by the writers in connection with them making presage#and i am a huge fan of dead and dark space ships but I also like seeing something new and different
