I can't seem to turn this into a story (yet) but picture this:

Dwarves who age dwarven wiskey in barrels in their underground caverns, but don't bother with proper ventilation because they have such high resistance to alcohol that the fumes do not bother them

Unfortunate side effect 1: the fumes are very flammable

Unfortunate side effect 2: delinquent teenage dragons sneak into the cavern to get drunk off the fumes

Happy Audio Drama Sunday! I heard so many good shows this week, let’s goooooo

🥃 I started listening to @breakerwhiskey this week, and I’m on episode 21 (which is nothing, it’s microfic), and it is so compelling. Lauren Shippen said in episode zero that she misses the improvisational feel of early audio dramas and that really comes through in this show—the wandering of the story reflects the wandering of Whiskey herself. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

🎵I am not alone in my reaction to the new season of @hellofromthehallowoods, which I think goes something like, “Wh—who—but—Arnold?????” (Seriously, Arnold???) but I love a mystery, and I love how linear this season is starting out. I’m sure that it’ll all get more complicated soon.

💔 Have you all heard Josie’s Lonely Hearts Club? It’s a call-in advice show from a fictional radio station and it is HILARIOUS. Until this last episode, which got SAD. It's a partially improvised show, so the whole thing feels so incredibly human and it always hits. Please listen, more fictional advice shows all around.

🐺 The Midnight Burger/The Amelia Project crossover was exactly as delightful as I expected. We got two shows that love historical figures and putting people in the deep freeze. What could go wrong! Absolutely nothing. With a crossover episode I always wonder if there will be enough character interaction to slake my insatiable character dynamic thirst and for this one I definitely think there was.

🍺 Inn Between dropped an episode of Dragon’s Rest on their feed this week, and I'm here to say that we did that because it's frikkin hilarious. This last episode was so good, especially with Shax trying to talk to a bartender and the bartender getting mad that Shax was complaining about her friends and not having a professional business conversation. I love you, southern-sounding bartender, and I love you Shax.

🩸Hemophobia continues to scare the heck out of me. This series, Camp Havenside, ended exactly how I expected it to, with the extra twist of that horrible half-possessed state Sam is in. Lordt. Listen to this show. Mind the content warnings. Then like, message me about it, it has taken permanent residence in my brain.

🎭 Oh Malevolent, you never disappoint me. I adore the twists the season finale took, and the real danger Arthur and John were in had me on the edge of my seat. How are we gonna get outta this one boys! Frikkin Kayne.

💎 As it ever is, @kingmakerpod was a blessing visited upon my podcatcher. Oh man though, Lucas Lando, what a scuzbag. Like maybe the worst villain yet in this series for me, and I'm including the psychic child. Lando's just unsavory. The action scenes in this episode were excellent, and I love the use of Pocket Cinnamon. For a minute when they were looking for things in the barn that don't conduct electricity, I was very worried for the cows. Honestly now a little surprised they didn't explode a cow. Hey guys, why didn't you explode a cow?

🌈 I've been listening to this actual play, @ourstoriedinsight, and it's about all the typical actual play stuff--a party of misfit adventurers, thrown together by circumstance, trying to stop the end of the world. What stands out about this one is its wonderful sound design and its tone--it's so introspective and kind. The characters are great too. I would die for Vishakapar. If you like an actual play and you don't want to wait for it to get really good, please check out Our Storied Insight.

As for personal news, boy oh boy am I working hard on the Dead! Pray for our recording schedule these next couple weeks. As for Inn Between, we'll be putting up an episode this week that is a true banger, I hope you like it.

"Colin?"

He hums, his face pressed into the crook between Dragon's neck and shoulder. She's cooking something. She can't eat--although they are working on adding some functionality to her android body that could introduce taste, which is coming along nicely, but the actual consumption and disposal of food would be a waste, so they're still trying to workshop some workarounds-- but she says she likes cooking anyway. Something to do with her hands, something productive, that isn't just building machines. They're lucky he can eat, otherwise she'd be cooking for nothing.

"What would you do if... if Saint locked me away again?"

The question gives him pause. "That won't happen."

"But what if it did?"

"He can't." He tightens his arms around her middle and takes a deep breath. She smells like machine oil and warm circuitry.

"But someone theoretically could." She pokes at whatever's in the pan in front of her with her hand. Looks like a stir fry. Her synthetic skin doesn't burn. "What would you do?"

He watches her add some spices to the food as he considers it. The first time it happened--fuck, he doesn't want to think about that. That was probably the worst--shit, how long even was that? The worst time of his life. When Saint "killed" her, Defiant had never been more angry--and more devastated--in his life.

He hadn't talked about it. Not even to Chevalier, his closest--well, only friend outside of Dragon, aside from Hannah, but she wasn't exactly the type to talk about these things. He had liked to think that he'd gotten better, that he's gotten more open, but the moment Dragon wasn't in the picture, he shut down again, throwing himself back into work, desperate to find a way to bring her back, or do something good at least, if not that.

If someone got rid of her--if they killed her again, refused to bring her back, he would kill them. He knows that. It's undeniable.

He doesn't say that.

Something happens in his brain, a twinge in his circuitry. She's in there. He can feel her. It was almost unsettling the first time she poked herself into the cybernetic components in his brain, but it was something he swiftly got used to. It feels natural now, her coding intertwining with his neurons.

She knows what he's thinking.

He almost feels bad about it. Colin Wallis, Defiant, the hero, wanting to kill some imaginary someone for a crime they haven't yet committed. Sure, he'd let some people die before, but he'd never killed with own two hands.

She says nothing about it. No scolding, no disapproving comments. She just curls around his neurons like she belongs there, and there's a jolt in his system as she makes a connection from his brain to her android body, and then it's just the two of them, intertwined, both of them feeling the sensations of both of their bodies, pressed together in the kitchen, warm and safe.

He would kill if anyone took this away from him.

They smell something burning and snap out of it. "Oh, shit." Dragon reaches into the pan and stirs the food. He just snorts and keeps his head tucked into her shoulder.

He doesn't need to read her mind to know she would do the same for him.

I finished one of my dnd notebooks over the weekend. It’s great looking back through all the notes I scrambled to write and the doodles I kept of characters I’ve loved playing. Featuring: Moss, my beloved crustpunk rogue/druid and his dog, Dirt. Hackette, the most challenging character I've had to play because I had to be nice and helpful to people, my bugbear fighter. Whiskey, my catfolk pirate seeker, from my current ICON game Nyx, my dhampir rogue, from my current DnD game who I love because I get to be creepy and gross on purpose.

Another Artfight attack, probably my last one for the year (unless I get something done quickly today)

This has been one of the biggest pieces I have ever made, it took me anywhere between 22 and 32 hours over the course of the last two and a half weeks. There were a lot of things happening in between working on this which is why I’m not entirely sure about the time. The full timelapse video is 16 minutes long. I’m really glad I pivoted from trying to make this into a comic, I don’t know that I would’ve finished it if I had. This is one of the only pieces with full shading I did this artfight, I didn’t draw in a light source but I really tried to work off of one. Even though I had a reference photo for the sketch, a lot of these poses were new to me and some were difficult to figure out (a couple of legs are missing, and one of the mugs are weird)

Overall I wanted to draw a bunch of pirates (loosely inspired by a scene in Bloody Cape) and that’s what I did and I’m pretty pleased with how this turned out
