Fun facts (Names in Mythology):
Heracles's real name is not "Heracles" but Alkaios (Alceaeus=>Ἀλκαῖος) or Alkides. He received the name "Heracles" ("Glory of Hera") when he went to the Delphi Sanctuary to receive a prophecy on how to cleanse himself from the murder of his children with Megara after Hera made him lose his sanity
Minotaur had a name in birth Asterion or Asterius which means "star-like" and it is believed that is because his body was full of small spots that resemble stars (thus many ancient depictions have him spotted)
Cerberus, the dog of Hades has many etymological roots but one of them seems to come from a term which means "spot" or "spotted". Yes the hellhound could possibly be called "Spot" XD
There is a general opinion that Odysseus would be originally named Polyaretos (Πολυάρητος) aka "Much Prayed for" but that seems to be a mistranslation of the passage where Euryclea tells Autolycus to name Odysseus because he is "much prayed for". But the phrase goas "πολυάρητος εστιν" aka "he is much prayed for". The passage doesn't directly imply that the name was considered but rather how difficult it was for Odysseus to be conceived. So it is more of an interpretation of the passage rather than a fact.
Neoptolemous, according to some sources, was named Pyrrhus (Fire-like) at birth which according to some interpretations was for Diadeima to pay respects to Achilles as well as his disguise as a woman because according to some sources Achilles takes the pseudonym "Pyrrha" while in disguise. The name "Neoptolemous" is a nickname he is known for, meaning "New Soldier" or "New Warrior" indicating how his arrival was basically to replace Achilles
Both the most trecherous slaves in Odysseus's court Melantho and Melanthius share the same name. Both Melantho and Melanthius comes from greek "melas" (μέλας) which means "dark" or "black" and the word "anthos" (άνθος) which is for "flower" or "bloom" Both of them have the name "dark flower" and both are the most clear example of betrayal in Odysseus's court by both being named "dark flower" or "black bloom".
Calypso is a name by general interpretation that means either "καλή οπή" aka "beautiful to see" or from the verb "καλύβω/καλύπτω" which means "to conceal". So indicating both her beauty but also her obsession to conceal or cover Odysseus in her isle.
Anticlea and Euryclea have the opposite meanings of names as well as opposite roles. "Anticlea" comes from "anti" (αντί) which means "opposite" or "against" and the word "kleos" (κλέος) which means "glory". "Euryclea" comes from the term "eurys" (ευρύς) which means "wide" and "kleos" aka "glory". Anticlea who is a queen has a name that means "Without Glory" and Euryclea, a slave has a name that means "Full of Glory". Anticlea died a non-glorious sad death while Euryclea got her own eseence of glory by waiting for and helping her master.
Pyndaros and some later sources in later legends says that Achilles was originally named Lygiron aka "the whining one" or "the crying one".
Antigone literally means "Against one's parents" or "Against one's kin". Indicating how she will go against Kreon and bury her brother
Aias the Telamon's son aka Ajax the Greater was named after the exclamation "Αι αι αι!" which is someone moaning in pain, indicating the painful tragedy of his life.
Both Ajax and Achilles seem to have given the explanation in post-homeric times that their names are somehow linked to crying and moaning in pain, indicating how both of them will experience pain.
Patroclus means "glory of his father", which is ironic given how originally Patroclus hishonors his father by accidentally killing his playmate but he receives honors post-mortem for he is given offerings along with Achilles and Antilochus in the tomb guarded by Nestor.

This is INCREDIBLY EXCITING news, as South Korea lags behind many other Asian countries on public viewpoints about LGBTQ+ rights. Well done, South Korea’s Supreme Court, on equal public healthcare rights! Also note, at the end of the article, how fast attitudes are changing about same-sex marriage in South Korea over the last 24 years. Keep the upward trend going! (I’m calling for more South Korean BLs, obviously.)
Paywall-free paste below:
In a landmark ruling for gay rights in South Korea on Thursday, the country’s Supreme Court ruled that same-sex couples qualify for the national health insurance’s dependent coverage, a decision that rights activists hoped could pave the way for legalizing same-sex marriage in the country.
The decision would allow same-sex couples in the country to register their partners as dependents in national health insurance coverage, as married couples or couples in a common-law marriage can. Numerous other benefits are denied to same-sex and other couples living outside the traditional norms of family in South Korea.
In its ruling on Thursday, the country’s highest court ruled that denying a same-sex couple national health insurance dependent coverage “just because they are of the same sex” constitutes a serious discrimination that infringed upon citizens’ “dignity and values, their rights to pursue happiness, their freedom of privacy and their rights to be equally treated by the law.”
The plaintiff, So Seong-wook, filed the legal complaint in 2021. Mr. So wanted to register in the national health insurance program as a dependent of his partner, Kim Yong-min, arguing that their union should be treated as a common-law marriage. But South Korea’s health insurance service rejected his request and told him to pay a separate monthly insurance premium — a decision later affirmed by a district court.
But in February last year, an appeals court overturned the lower-court ruling. It said that although Mr. Kim and Mr. So’s union could not be considered a common-law marriage under South Korean laws, they should still qualify for the national health insurance’s dependent coverage.
In its final say on the case on Thursday, the Supreme Court endorsed the appeals court ruling. It said that same-sex couples formed an “economic cohabitation tantamount to” married and common-law couples.
“I hope today’s ruling will serve as a steppingstone toward enabling sexual minorities to gain equality in the system of marriage,” Mr. So said in a news conference on Thursday.
Mr. Kim said while he describes himself as Mr. So’s “husband and “companion,” he has never been able to enjoy those titles legally in South Korea.
“I am so happy that the court recognized some of that today,” he said.
Borang Jang, an East Asia researcher at Amnesty International, the rights group, described the ruling as historic.
“The court has taken a significant step towards dismantling systemic discrimination and ensuring inclusivity for all,” she said in a statement. “The case itself is a sobering reminder of the lengthy judicial processes that same-sex couples must endure to secure basic rights that should be universally guaranteed.”
There is no official data on how many people live together in same-sex unions in the country. But between 2016 and 2022, the number of people who live together in “non-kin households” — people living together outside legal marriage — doubled to 1 million, according to government data.
Conservative Christians in South Korea have long campaigned against legalizing same-sex marriage or introducing an anti-discrimination law that protects people of any gender, age, sexual identity or physical ability. But attitudes are changing. At the turn of the century, only 17 percent of South Koreans were in favor of legalizing same-sex marriage, according to Gallup Korea, a survey company. By May of last year, that figure had grown to 40 percent.

Ok. I’ve been compiling my thoughts on the pathologic 2 endings for a while now, and I’ve finally pinpointed my feelings on them (enough to share at least). I’m desperate to hear what others think about them too.
Lengthy Kin-themed rant oncoming? Perhaps.
More under the cut.
CW: Spoilers for Pathologic 2 (of course).
- - -
To preface: As I am Māori, not Buryat or of the other cultures I have heard the Kin to be based on, my perspective is more from *my* understanding of what it means to be Indigenous than anything else. There are probably many things I’m missing. But I’d like to throw in my two cents, however relevant they are.
Suffice to say, my feelings are complicated. Stylistically and narratively, there was a lot that I enjoyed. From a reconnecting/ mixed Indigenous perspective, however, I still feel unwillingly bisected, torn.
At the culmination of everything, Artemy Burakh and the player are roped into a cruel, two-pronged choice. Destroy the Polyhedron along with the miracles of the Steppe, or let the plague devour the town as you lead the Kin back to its heart. In these scenarios, you either assimilate the Kin into the town, which many of them will despise you for, or push out the nonindigenous townsfolk by force, letting nature run its course. Any third option has already been amputated, beyond your will. You cannot protect the Kin completely either way, some will likely die from the plague in the latter, and the more fantastical will in the first, by being cleaved from the earth’s dying magic.
Diurnal, or Nocturnal. No matter how you look at it, the kin cannot thrive in either. For it to be a choice at all, hurt, to say the least. After playing the bachelor’s route in the first game, I’m sure that was deliberate in an anti-utopian sense, perfection is impossible etc, etc. But the first lens I saw it through, stuck with me.
When I initially read Isidor say this after Artemy’s trial in the abattoir:
“Facing the Future is the way of Love. Facing the Past is the way of Love. But the two are incompatible, and it broke my heart.”
I was devastated. The hopeless dichotomisation of future and past… and I could only construe it as assimilation or death in some manner (but I could not see what role it took yet). That feeling festered for a while, but I wanted to see it from another angle. I think it's natural to be sensitive to the words “progress” (which is usually linked to “civilisation” and colonisation) when anchored against Indigenous culture, but I didn’t want that to blind me completely.
On its own, I do like this line. It’s weighty. And I think it articulates aspects of Indigenous struggle well, to some degree. Going back to the “past” is somewhat impossible for many reasons. Decolonisation is needed but I don’t believe it means restoring the “past” fully by any means. Culture is not stagnant, and neither is the future. To say they are incompatible though pains me. Especially when contextualised inside the divide between the kin and the town. It is an intentionally agonising line, and successfully so. Pitting the themes of Past/Future, against, Kin/Town, is something I find hard to reconcile with. Even just the first part irks me; personally the past walks with me at every step, the future is void and useless without it in full view. But I wouldn’t say a line from Isidor (or Artemy’s subconscious) necessarily defines the game more than it does his perspective. For me, it is the patterns that follow and precede it.
Aspity is a very obvious portrayal of what it looks like to “face the past” completely. Visiting her sanctuary, It becomes very evident that her opinions of the non-Kinfolk sway towards genocidal. They must “flood the town”, as she put it. Considering their treatment on the Bull Project and well… everything else, It’s not unfounded. During the night visits, we develop a growing understanding of what is at stake for the kin. Their language, legends, arts, and traditions, and too many Kin are dying from pest and persecution (Its a familiar story). Herb brides are forced to sell their cultural dance to get by (another familiar story for Māori, kapa haka and tourism, our culture has also become a commodity out of necessity). Legends like the shabnak adyr too are warped by the townsfolk (as it is used as an excuse to target Kin women). Assimilation means these things for them too.
There's also the case of how the Kin are depicted as more animalistic than the “more human” townsfolk. Oyun, Big Vlad, and even Artemy have a long history referring to them as such. To make the Kin less than human is inherently othering (as is any case where the empire views us as inherently more primitive or unevolved). The importance placed on Aurochs and being one with nature in Kin culture paints this in a less hostile light (Big Vlad’s view not so much). But I fear the effect this might have on player perceptions of the Kin will be negative regardless. I’ve seen a few statements about the Kin being a “hivemind”, I can't say I entirely agree. Many are divided on how they view Artemy, as well as what they desire for the future. I’ve also seen this in reference to when a few odonghe gift you organs for your tinctures, but at this point everyone in the town is desperate for a cure no matter the cost. Their more violent practices appear to weaken many fans' empathy for the Kin, painting the Nocturnal ending darker and darker. Getting rid of herb bride “marriages” would be a good thing at least right? Assimilation might be a good thing then? Nothing good comes without cost, and for the Kin this cost is too steep. Survival doesn't have to mean losing yourself piece by piece.
I will say that despite liking the non-Kin townsfolk, I do wish there was a larger Kin presence among the main roles. While we have Nara, Aspity, Oyun, and Taya, I understand how their presence does little to assuage the dread of seeing the rest of the cast wade out into the Steppe. For me, seeing Murky and Sticky in such a lost state during the Nocturnal ending, made me unable to see it as anything but a mistake.
Two other alternating themes are present through the endings. Childhood (miracles and dreams) and adulthood (waking up and walking forward). The dominant presence of children in Nocturnal, and the fact that walking through the near empty town really does feel like a nightmare, showcases this. The impossible has been made possible, the earth sleeps, sated. The endless cycle of responsibility, from father to son, from parent to child... Children rule the future here. In Diurnal, this cycle, at least, has some room to be broken. Responsibilities are weighed more evenly. Letting go of miracles and childhood dreams, that is the only future in this end. I’m not sure If i have to discuss how problematic it might be to place indigenous revival in the realm of childishness, and assimilation in the realm of growing up, but i thought i'd leave the notion there regardless.
Leaving how you view the two ends aside, it's obvious that Nocturnal has a heavier, gloomier tone.
Maybe having a third ending would’ve been reductive, to have one person so easily find a solution to unifying the town. But, it hurts so deeply to have that choice wrenched from your hands. The choice might have been severed by Isidor, but it felt like so much was possible for Artemy. With one foot in both worlds, the potential of true reconnection, i thought we could move past what was possible for his father. It felt like that was the direction Artemy was moving in, seeing the choices before him and bullheadedly trampling through the middle. Just like he did with the cure, finding the impossible connection.
As it stands, the endings are brutal. Survival for the kin is held by a thread, regardless of the direction you look. They either die a physical death, or a cultural and spiritual one (the two could very well be interpreted as present in both depending on how you look at it). By your conversations with Aspity, even if they survive, the Diurnal end is hinted to lead to an essential “dissolution” of the Kin as they know it. Wherein the differences between the Town and Kin will become so negligible that the two are no longer distinct. Which from my perspective is its own, however voiceless tragedy.
Ok, that was a lot of negativity but I’d like to be candid. Even despite all that, Pathologic is still one of my favourite games of all time. I saw someone say on here that Pathologic 2 is most interesting when allowing the player to decide where love takes them (even if they are led to extremes). Love being at the forefront, regardless of the choices you make, no wrong answers, that's what I appreciated most when playing as Artemy. Whether you chose to kill the three odonghe for Rubin, begged him to stay despite everything, killed Oyun, the Oglimskys, or the pest, it was for the love of something. The internal strife of having a mixed identity too, the rejection and affection from both sides, is something I related to even if the circumstances were miles apart from my own. I wish that Nocturnal aligned with that energy, that the nuances there were a little less stark. That opposing assimilation felt like less of a mistake.
There's a lot more I could delve into but this is pretty long already. This post could all read like nonsense/surface level, but I’m curious to see what other people think! Especially other indigenous folk, I’m dying to know how others interpreted the endings regarding the Kin.

I just really wanted to tell you, that i already imagine how I am going to make two of my MCs, one is going to be heavily inspired in Princess Diana and the other will be equivalent of Catherine the great, those are just fun ideas that I already have for the MCs that I made in your game that I'm already hyped up for!
Princess Diana style would 100% have to be a charisma and politician run, as she would be able to charm the pants off everyone while still knowing how to play the game! Catherine the Great would be a INT (Major skill) and CHA (Medium skill) as Ekaterina was more than anything fiercely intelligent. ANd oh course, go with either a politician (historical run) or a Military Historian (fantasy run)
Princess Diana style would get you the masquerade balls, the public events, charity events, and your main weapon would be getting the public, and majority of the political players, to support the MC.
Way more backroom deals and ruthless navigation of the public sphere. Youll be the face, the reputation, and key to your faction's goals.
The Russian Tsarina style will be more about the Royal Court, who you ally yourself with, when you betray them, and knowing who to send for specific problems. Will you send the boisterous and energetic Veriel to aid the Eastern Kin who got hit with a mudslide, or will you send the intense and anti-social Zera, who actually has a connection with these people?
Basically, delegation for military campaigns, and political assassinations/assignments to office is the game here.

If I were to take a shot every time Gabi got mischaracterized, I would be dead
Little rant, but I’ve noticed this a lot and just can’t help but point it out. The vast majority of arguments I see from Gabi-Antis fall into two categories:
Pure Emotion: “I hate her cause she killed Sasha” there’s no real problem with this, art is subjective, love or hate whatever characters you want to love or hate. This however, does completely fail as an argument for the quality of a characters writing.
Mischaracterization Reliant: “she’s a sociopath/psychopath/saristic/etc” these are the main focuses of this post. Arguments that present a false version of Gabi in order to condemn her, allow me to explain.
Allow me to paint a picture of the average Gabi hater season 4 viewing experience: An arrogant girl is introduced and destroys a train full of people in cold blood, laughing as she does so. She then cruelly murders a girl, and gets her closest friend hurt with her own blabber mouth. Then, she cries crocodile tears to convince the friends of the woman she killed to help her. Eh, little exaggerated but not far off.
But as many of you know, this is not actually the case. Gabi is not sadistic, or a psychopath. She’s a deeply misguided kid. There are two scenes of hers that often go overlooked, but are vital to her character:
Her conversation with Reiner: in chapter 93, we see Gabi show very clear care for Reiner as she confronts him about how off he’s been. Ending the conversation, she expresses her desire to understand him deeper.
Her conversation with Falco During the Liberio Raid: here, we see her say very bluntly that everything she did was to prove to the world that Eldians were not bad. Now, her methods are misguided, but her intentions are unquestionably good.
when one takes this care she has for her friends and her people into account, one simple truth becomes apparent: Gabi’s primary motivation is love.
does she bear hate in her heart for a time? Yes. But that is not the deeper thing driving most of her actions, what drives her is love. She doesn’t put her own life at risk to take out the armoured train because she loves killing people, she does so to prevent a mass charge of 800 of her kin (anyone who knows a thing or two about WW1 tactics knows how much of a bloodbath this would have been).
She wouldn’t have gone after the Scout’s airship if it wasn’t for her witnessing the brutal deaths of her two closest friends and the destruction of her hometown.
everything she did in the warrior program she did because she believed she was furthering her family (and her peoples) advance towards equality.
when Falco gets hurt because of her, her immediate instinct is to die in his place.
and when she learns she’s wrong, she immediately changes her ways and feels remorse for her previous actions.
While she obviously does bear incorrect views for a great portion of her time in the story, her intentions were always pretty pure.
And it is with understanding this, that most arguments against her fall apart. Most arguments rely on this idea that Gabi is in fact sadistic, and Isayama is justifying the acts of sociopaths through her. This is not the case. Isayama is explaining the actions of child soldiers through her. Acts which, mind you, have a lot of historical precedence.
there is much of Isayama’s post timeskip writing I am critical of, but Gabi is easily the best character introduced post time skip and frankly, it’s not close.
Unlike other parts of the timeskip, Isayama did not chicken out on Gabi when his vision and general reception began to diverge. Despite the hate, he did not stray from his vision, because his vision (in this case) was ultimately correct.
Gabi is one of the redeeming aspects of post-timeskip AOT and one of the best depictions of a child soldier in fiction. Isayama did not shy away from the ugly reality of child soldiers, but more importantly he asserted strongly the compassion required for a solution to this problem.
so yeah, that’s about it.

Me, defending Daenerys Targaryen: Her existence is meant to break the shackles that is often associated with Targaryen madness and tyranny. Just as Aegon the Conqueror came and reshaped Westeros, Daenerys is meant to do that and go further. Aegon did not radically changed the dynamics of the Seven Kingdoms, though his and his sisters' unification did lead to a lessening of yearly wars that the kingdoms were often associated with, but Daenerys goes beyond that. She seeks to dismantle ancient institutions that keep man enslaved and submissive--she is a revolutionary. Attempts to degrade her actions against slavery should be taken under suspicion, for no other character calls for greater reform, not even the common-born Davos. Daenerys' Meereen arc is meant to display the reality of leadership, something which male characters such as Tyrion, Robb, and Jon deal with, to a variety degree of success and failure. Yet, only Daenerys and her actions are held to higher scrutiny, meanwhile Tyrion, Robb, and Jon's fates all occurred by their own choices and actions - Tyrion actively maintained Shae at court, and though he meant well, pulled political blunder when he threatened Cersei, even though it was a noble cause to defend Alayaya; Jon's choice to remain reclusive regarding his designs weakened his overall support in the Night's Watch, especially as he received it under very peculiar situations. Meanwhile, there is less focus on the community about those political blunders and consistent critiques regarding Daenerys' actions, and given the show's canonization of Jon as a "legitimate" son of Rhaegar and Lyanna, any nuance toward her and her potential claim to the Iron Throne is often discarded and forsaken as Jon is considered the "rightful" heir to many members of the fandom. Referring to her as the potential mad queen not only fails to recognize that Daenerys likely is meant to break the common traits of her kin, but also simply ignores the parrallels between Cersei and Aerys. Having two mad queens is reductive, and ignores Martin's anti-misogynistic attempts through Daenerys. The Dance of Dragons only occurred because of misogyny, not because Rhaenyra herself was unfit to rule. That is meant to be something in which Daenerys is expected to break.
Me, defending Queen Marika the Eternal: Yes, she committed multiple cases of genocides...but she was a hot MILF while doing it, soooo

this fandom….man, oh, man….they believe anything and everything. it’s actually insufferable. we have less than 2 weeks until season 4 starts filming, i need them to put out the sophie announcement NOW. this is just ridiculous, like this is not marvel. it’s bridgerton. i still believe masali is 100% sophie. these people don’t get she cannot be a gender bent michael, that’s literally incompatible with how they wrote the world of bridgerton. it doesn’t work lol.
Honestly it’s no coincidence that those peddling this crap all have variations of the same MO.
I was not born yesterday. Anybody can come into someone’s inbox (anonymously) and say whatever they please. Anybody can claim they have a source/friend who works in the industry/at Netflix/is a journalist(seriously I’ve never seen this many people who have such friends). Anybody can claim they are a journalist or work at Netflix.
These people have claimed it all yet no one has provided a shred of actual evidence(ex. stills or audio) to back up their claims. Most of their claims don’t make any sense(Benedict is next yet they haven’t casted Sophie and he’s going to have a threesome with a man?) and they constantly contradict each other(sister vs. cousin thing when John is a confirmed only child; Eloise is next, no Benedict is next, no Francesca is next🤦🏽‍♀️).
If you’ve read the books or paid any attention to the show at all those claims straight up make 0 sense. Benedict is supposed to be just floating around fiddling life away right before Sophie comes in. He’s right on target in the show.
Michael’s gender is just as integral to the plot as Sophie’s. Michael becomes the Earl of Kilmartin because he is John’s closet male kin(they are first cousins via their fathers who were twins). He has severe guilt because of that. He is a rake and had quite the reputation because he is a man and men are afforded to do as they please. Fran struggles with her fertility and decides to remarry because she wants children. You change Michael’s gender and you change everything about WHWW.
Not to mention that as the Bridgerton verse stands gay marriage is illegal. Gay people have to live in hiding. Fran and this fanmade character they have come up with cannot have a happy ending.
I see y’all trying to compare your delusions to Benophie, but while they aren’t exactly taking part in society, Sophie was Benedict’s legal wife. They have children and they have a life together where they don’t have to hide their love and their union.
If that isn’t enough think of the money Netflix/the pun locs hers would be losing out on making such a fucking idiotic decision. Selling a gender-bent WLW tragic romance to a mostly straight women audience will not go over well.
Or how about how it would look casting Masali, a dark skinned Black woman, in a role meant for a man.
I’m just going to come out and say it, a large part of this fandoms gullibility is due to the fans inherit anti-Blackness.
Even though this show is a Shondaland production, Shonda herself is a Black woman, and she prides herself on creating content for Black people, they don’t want a Masali to play Sophie Beckett.
That’s where these rumors begin and end. With people not wanting Masali or any other Black woman(cause even if Masali isn’t Sophie not for one moment do I think that Sophie won’t be Black) to be Sophie Beckett.
So with that said, until I see the last two episodes with my own eyes (or by some miracle they let Masali appear with Luke on The View or GMA next week)I refuse to believe the lies of the deluded.

House Velaryon and House Arryn owe Queen Rhaenyra big time!
Time to talk about the two “great” Houses who should have been supporting Rhaenyra for years, long before the war started (and failed miserably). Let’s begin:
1. House Velaryon (richest House in the Realm and kin to the Targaryens)
Where can we begin? Perhaps the day King Viserys landed on the shores of Driftmark to propose the marriage between his eldest daughter and Heir to the Iron Throne, Princess Rhaenyra and the only son and heir of the Lord of Driftmark, Laenor Velaryon.
Viserys offered the Velaryons more than enough. He gave them, above all other great Houses, the chance to enter the line of succession, he gave them the hand of his eldest and most precious daughter, and the possibility for their children to be named Velaryons, until the eldest of them would inherit the throne.
This was an arranged marriage, basically a business transaction between two Houses who wanted to give something and get something in return. The Velaryons, as the richest house in the Realm, would provide resources, riches and an army for the Crown, and in turn, the son and heir of Driftmark would be Prince Consort and his children would inherit the Iron Throne (something Corlys has always wanted).
And this marriage was a perfect fit, since Rhaenyra and Laenor were also close in age. Perfectly appropriate (unlike the original agreement which included Viserys and Laena). This was the perfect chance for the two great Valyrian houses to unite, and support each other.
But, there was a small little problem which both Corlys and Rhaenys were aware of before agreeing to this marriage pact: their son was gay. Rhaenys had her reservations, but Corlys wouldn’t hear of it. All he cared about was for his blood to finally end up on the Iron Throne, as he has always wanted. The Princess and Heir to the Iron Throne would marry a gay man. What could be the problem here?
The problem came soon enough: Laenor couldn’t provide Rhaenyra with children, something which was basically included in the marriage agreement. She was the Heir to the Throne and it was his duty to give her the heirs she needed to secure her position. He didn’t/couldn’t.
I have seen antis commenting on the whole “bastard children situation” and always blaming Rhaenyra for it. I haven’t seen a single post which held the Velaryons responsible for it. Well, they are. They are more to blame for this than Rhaenyra is.
When the Velaryons entered into the marriage pact, they were more than aware that Laenor was gay. But they hid that fact and didn’t care. They knowingly put Rhaenyra in a situation in which she had to find solutions to a problem that wasn’t even hers to begin with. The problem was the Velaryons, and it was their responsibility to find a solution for it, not Rhaenyra.
Corlys and Rhaenys should have attempted to help with the problem. They should have been the ones to arrange for a Valyrian lover for Rhaenyra in order to produce the children she needed. Because these children were not just for her. House Velaryon needed those children too, to cover up and put to rest the rumors that the heir to Driftmark was gay.
House Velaryon may have provided for the Crown but they didn’t do anything for Rhaenyra. The marriage was supposed to be FOR HER, to consolidate HER position as the future Queen. And they did nothing to help her. Her husband spent his time sleeping with men, traveling, horse riding - basically took advantage of all the privileges at Court and offered nothing in return. Rhaenyra was alone at Court for years after she married Laenor. In those 10 years, the vultures had all gathered up to nip at her heels and she was left defenseless, by her father, the King and by her kin, the Velaryons.
What exactly has Rhaenyra’s marriage to Laenor brought her? Nothing!
Her half-brother Aegon spent his time drinking and raping servant girls, while Rhaenyra was doing her best to have the children she needed and her own husband couldn’t provide, stayed at Court (when she should have been on Dragonstone) in order to try to secure her position BY HERSELF, and was present at Council meetings (clearly taking on her role as the future Queen seriously).
When her half-brother was doing nothing at all, he had his mother at Court as the Queen consort (who was turning her children against Rhaenyra’s and clearly creating a division line between her family and Rhaenyra’s), his grandfather, while he was not Hand for a long period of time, was no doubt plotting in Oldtown to secure Aegon’s succession along with House Hightower. The majority of the Council consisted of misogynists and people who had benefitted from doing business with Otto Hightower (like the Lannisters). Without doing anything, Aegon was secretly supported for all those years by the Queen consort, her family, House Hightower, and by the Council (minus the Strongs).
Rhaenyra didn’t have anyone on her side, helping secure her position for all those years. Her only ally was her ill father who was oblivious to everything, including the abuse she endured. Where was House Velaryon, her husband’s family? What did Corlys do to help secure his daughter-in-law’s position? Nothing! And despite all that, Rhaenyra did her best to maintain appearances and protect both House Targaryen and House Velaryon from shame.
She could have admitted to her children being bastards and she could have gotten an annulment (which could have given her a fighting chance to get a better husband for herself). But where would that have left the Velaryons? Laenor’s nature would have been exposed and the Velaryons would have been humiliated. Rhaenyra chose not to do that to them. She protected them! She protected Laenor! Corlys understood this and always acknowledged Jacaerys, Lucerys and Joffrey as his grandchildren.
While Rhaenyra was protecting House Velaryon from shame as well as confronting the rumors about Laenor’s nature, the Velaryons didn’t do anything to help her! Nothing! She could never count on them, and they were her kin. When the Velaryons entered into that marriage pact with the Targaryens, they were under obligation to consolidate Rhaenyra’s claim to the Iron Throne, support and protect her. They did none of that. They let her deal with the vultures at Court alone, they didn’t provide her with solutions to have pure Valyrian children (even though the problem was theirs, not Rhaenyra’s. It was Laenor who couldn’t have children), they let the rumors about her children spread, and they did nothing to protect her position as Heir.
House Velaryons’ duty, as kin to the Princess Rhaenyra and Heir to the Iron Throne was to protect her, support her and eliminate her enemies. They did none of that. It was their reputation too. Rhaenyra’s gain was theirs too. THEY…DID…NOTHING! It was their duty to DO SOMETHING!
So don’t you dare tell me that Rhaenyra “shamed” a “great” House. A House who did nothing for her for all those years. A House who abandoned her, although it was in their interest to do something, because they were linked to her through that marriage.
Rhaenyra married Laenor for political advantage. It was all for nothing, as far as I am concerned. I am also astounded that Corlys even had to consider whose side in this war he should choose. He should have been on his hands and knees before Rhaenyra, begging for her forgiveness. Because a lot of the blame for Rhaenyra having to fight for her own right to the Throne belongs to the Velaryons. They are completely indebted to her for protecting their reputation and never confirming the rumors about her husband or her children (when she could have, and an annulment could have gained her a whole lot more).
House Velaryon has a lot to make up for now, as far as I am concerned.
2. House Arryn (Paramount House and kin to Queen Rhaenyra)
Another great House, which failed the rightful Queen, their own kin.
House Arryn had been brought in the Royal fold when the Good Queen Alysanne married her two grandchildren, Viserys Targaryen and Aemma Arryn to one another.
Queen Aemma was half Targaryen (daughter of Princess Daella Targaryen and granddaughter to King Jaehaerys and Queen Alysanne) but also half Arryn, as the daughter of Lord Rodrik Arryn. That makes her daughter, Rhaenyra, a quarter Arryn.
When Queen Aemma died and almost immediately after Viserys decided to marry Alicent Hightower, the Arryns were out of the picture. A Paramount House was put to shame in favor of a vassal House.
The beloved Queen Aemma was not even cold in the ground when the King made a girl who used to be Princess Rhaenyra’s handmaid, the new Queen. House Arryn was never seen to protest this absurdity and this humiliation addressed to them. They had every right to do so, especially under the conditions in which Queen Aemma died. But they never did. And in doing nothing, they hurt the position of the Crown Princess, Queen Aemma’s only child, and kin to House Arryn, who was set to become the future ruling Queen of Westeros.
Years later, when Rhaenyra was grown and trying to consolidate her position at Court as the future Queen, where exactly was House Arryn?
House Hightower, a low branch House, was secretly conspiring and supporting Aegon, while the guy was masturbating from a window and doing nothing for himself. His mother’s house was 100% behind him.
Where was Rhaenyra’s mother’s house when she needed them? Where was House Arryn? Why weren’t they actively supporting Rhaenyra against the son of the lowly House who humiliated them and cast them aside?
House Arryn was in the position in which they had a woman leading them too, the Lady Jeyne Arryn, who had known Queen Aemma. They knew how difficult it was for a woman to keep herself in power at the time. There was no way for them to not know that Rhaenyra would be facing the same difficulties.
I repeat, where was House Arryn? They were waiting for an invitation from Rhaenyra or what? They waited for her to be usurped, and then called upon to finally offer the support they should have been giving her for years???It was in their interest to come to King’s Landing and support Rhaenyra, their own kin. She was the King’s chosen heir AND an Arryn by blood. They are a Paramount House, with more resources and influence than the Hightowers, which could have helped her.
House Arryn is completely indebted to Queen Rhaenyra for their negligence.
Their motto is “As High as Honor”. Where were they when they were supposed to defend Queen Aemma’s honor, or Rhaenyra’s?
Bottom line: Two great Houses with riches and influence in the Realm, who were Rhaenyra’s kin, Velaryon and Arryn, failed to support Rhaenyra when she needed them and left her alone to the vultures. So I don’t want to hear anymore of anything Rhaenyra “did” and more of what the Houses who were supposed to be by her side didn’t. And yet, Queen Rhaenyra, is showing her loyalty to the Houses who are supposed to be her family and did nothing for her.
Honestly, I would be ashamed to be a Velaryon or an Arryn right about now.

I know v0id-clawz is one of the recent people wa came after and you can see some of the asks on their blog. Its unfortunately quite real; thestargayzingetherian has a series of docs with receipts and miraculoustakes was also talking about it because they used to do the same thing to miraculous ladybug fans
If you search “salty kinkshamer” on wa’s blog you can also see some messed up stuff from like 2016 for yourself. She’s lying about not having seen the docs because everyone who contributed has been getting slammed
I know this is your friend and I’m not asking you to change that but she’s hurting people and has been for a long time
thank you for at least providing something for me to work with. while i still don’t know the full story, i can address a bit of research i did.
the only asks on the blogs of v0id-clawz (who is a catradora anti so i'd rather not dive too deep and break their boundaries or make myself uncomfortable) & miraculoustakes that i could find from searching "witch apologist" are VERY recent, like... as of yesterday recent. and there aren't more than 2-3 on each. not to mention, these still carry the same issue as you in that it’s all words from unnamed blogs with no proof. the fact that it’s multiple people means nothing when we know there’s a whole clique of people supposedly trying to “cancel” (for lack of a better term sorry) WA. also, i don't want to accuse you of anything so this isn't an attack because i'm still open to reading from you, but it looked to me like those anons' typing styles were similar to yours. not sure if that says anything (or enough) but i’m throwing it out there anyway.
i couldn't find anything on @thestargayzingetherian by searching "witch apologist", "doc", "document", and "receipt." do you have any other suggestions, or a link? or would she know what you're talking about since i tagged (feel free to ignore this btw; i apologize if you didn't want to be involved but i don't like mentioning people without them knowing)?
i don't really have an opinion about kink discourse, at least not one i'd like to share in public on any of my blogs. if you're going to assume my stance from this, make it neutral.
i'll be wary of stuff that went down in 2016-2018 since holding people accountable is important, but it's also important to remember that was 6-8 years ago, so i'm not too keen on defining someone by their actions after so much time. i had mindsets that i wasn't proud of as little as 3-4 years ago (although it didn't directly affect anyone nearly as much), so i believe in improvement. i mean, hell, i'm literally a catra kin/stan. that being said, i appreciate that you’re not trying to force me to break it off.
now, i’m speaking for WA here since i sent them a screenshot of this before posting, and here’s what they said (paraphrased):
1. they can’t access the google doc because it’s limited to invitations, and they’re not willing to give their main(?) email. they can’t create a new burner one because they need an extra phone number which isn’t readily available, but are currently looking into if they have any old ones from a while back. that being said (i have only partially brought this up in a different way), i can volunteer to do that with my own extra email and screenshot parts of it or something, or send a recording of me scrolling through. i’ll just need a link. UPDATE: they suggested the same thing right as i was ready to post this, and have already sent me the link. i’ll see what i can do.
like i said, i won’t reveal whether i’m positive or negative about kink stuff, but obviously i have to stand against certain dark themes people are into initiating such as CSEM, rape/CNC, actual incest (as opposed to catradora lmao), etc, which is what they claim to have been shaming years ago.

Factions of the Grand Alliance
"Our enemies are numerous, powerful, insidious, and dangerous beyond reckoning. Tis good we have friends just as formidable. I cannot fathom having to stand alone in such a galaxy." ~ Imperial Diplomat toasts his allies during a feast on Craftworld Ulthwe
The Brightest Night AU is a lot more clear with who it counts on the good end of the moral spectrum and who it doesn't. This doesn't mean people are perfect, but they're at least mostly good by nature and try to be better. The Grand Alliance is what stands of the "civilized" races of the galaxy, an united bulwark against the abyss that threatens to consume them all.
The Interstellar Imperium
The Imperium of Man as we would know it and the successor state to the Greater Human Dominion from before the Dark Age of Technology. Ruled by the God-Emperor Aurelian, they are far less totalitarian and xenophobic than in canon, their faith is far less fanatical and count abhumans and even some xenos as Imperial citizens. As demonstrated by his marriage to Isha. Instead of the glorification of a holy human form in a physical sense, they value the concept of Humanity as people who can work together towards a greater goal. They can be seen as a galaxy spanning Interex and have adopted their method of dealing with Chaos with mixed results. People are generally more aware and can protect themselves better, but those who do fall often fall faster and further than they otherwise would have. As the Horus Heresy never happened, the idea that betrayal can happen at any time from within while still present, it not all-encompassing. However, plenty of planets and forces have been corrupted, just never all at once in an empire-splitting civil war. Faith remains a pervasive aspect of life in the Imperium, especially Emperor still being alive who is able to put some top down power to reign in the worst parts of the Imperium at times.
The Mechanicum
The largest of Survivor States that rose after the fall of the Greater Human Dominion, they are the most heavily intigrated of them. As the Imperium in this AU operates more akin to a federal system instead of an autocracy, the Mechanicum retains enough independence to the point of never having been forced to integrate and become the Adeptus Mechanicus. Still steeped in their techno-mysticism, technological advancement is glacial at best and often just as restrictive in canon. While technology is still stagnant and they hold the lion's share, some technology remains available in M41 such as jet bikes and volkite weaponry (albeit expensive and rare). AI remains completely outlawed in Mechanicum space and they're constantly pushing against the Tau's utilization of it. Their worst tendencies have mellowed out, going from callously apathetic to just iron-plated dicks. Given the Imperium can rely on other Suvivor States, the Tau, and even the Kyn Leagues for some tech, the political influence they wield is strong but not overpowering.
Confederation of Eldar Craftworlds
Less arrogant and self-assured of their own supremacy than in canon. Especially after Eldrad Ulthran brokered a pact between the Craftworlds and the young Imperium to aid one another in the War of the Beast and then an impossible raid on Nurgle's Garden to free Isha. It was this Hail Mary sucess that formed the foundation of the Grand Alliance and the eventual marriage of Isha and Aurelian. In exchange for their aid, the Eldar repaired and upgraded the Astronomicon and shared anti-Chaos technology and measures to the Imperium. With the rescue of Isha, hope has been restored to the Eldar. While they are a long way off from being a "dying race", their population at least grows even at a tectonic pace. Although their corrupted kin, the Shadishari, or "Chaos Eldar", still vastly outnumber them. She is the most potent anti-Chaos weapon the Alliance have, able to use her divine power to cleanse corrupted worlds with her presence but even with the constant movement of the Celestial Court, she can only be in so many places at once.
The "Imperial" Aquilla (the Alliance Aquilla in this timeline) and its twin heads in this AU actually represent the Imperium and the Craftworlds, not the Imperium and the Mechanicum.
The Exodite Enclaves
Also known as "Medari", they continue their low-tech existence on Eldar Maiden Worlds. There is usually a singular, technologically advanced settlement on their worlds, meant as a space port for their Craftworld cousins and the Imperium, but even then the technology is heavily regulated. Exodites are far more prickly and selective when it comes to dealing with outsiders and are granted special rights upon their worlds that not even the Craftworld Eldar can ignore. They exhibit more Wood Elf-tendencies as well, favoring the use of Ghostwood over Wraithbone which they cultivate in Ghostwood Glades. While often relying on treaties of defense with the Craftworlds, they are capable of rousing "forest spirits" in the form of Ghostwood Dyrads, Ents, and Treekin. Not to mention the various dangerous fauna they keep, most famous being the dinosaurs their knights ride into battle.
The Tau Empire
The largest of the allied Xenos races, they were independent for several millennia, resisting the advances of both Humans and Eldar until they finally joined in M39 after a series of devastating catastrophes and a brief civil war that saw the Farsight Enclaves break away. Their caste system and loyalty to the Ethreals is the result of cultural traditions and social engineering; it's possible for a Tau to go against an Ethereal but those who do probably aren't welcomed in the Empire to begin with or often feel deep shame for doing so. They're genuinely well-meaning with their entrance into the alliance being the biggest boons in millennia, but they're coming to grips with the reality and the vastness of the galaxy as well as its dangers. They weren't stupid enough to trust the Dark Eldar with cultural exchanges, but the Drukhari still took their due with successive raids during their "Bloody Teared Years" leading to a huge amount of animosity that is uncharacteristic for an otherwise famously, levelheaded people. Their AI technology is still highly advanced and they do butt heads with the Mechanicum over it. They are technically immune from its anti-AI strictures but a close, covert eye is kept out of fear they might trigger another Men of Iron-like revolt. Most of the time though, the Tau don't really quite believe the scale and scope of the universe they're in, still somewhat sheltered by their relative youth.
The Leagues of Votann
Technically abhumans, they are officially classified as "Xenos Amicis" (aka Friendly or Allied Xenos) in Imperial and Alliance records for what amounts as galactic tax evasion as being counted as an abhuman Survivor State would involve a great deal more integration than what most Leagues are comfortable with. Not to mention the additional burdens Survivor States are expected to provide for one another. However, they're still happy to work with the other members of the Alliance, giving tech, resources, and expertise in exchange for goods and oaths of defense. The true nature of their Votann AI is a closed secret known only to the Emperor with not even the Mechanicum fully let in on it. Some have their speculation, but it is a "don't ask questions to answers you don't want" situation for everyone involved.
