INTRODUCTION! ── ˙ ̟ the echo !!
𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲 :: get to know porsche's bet for the newest legend in the making in formula one, dubbed as the echo.
𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫'𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞 :: i've been absolutely hooked in @disneyprincemuke vettel reincarnated's series and i have always loved fem!drivers so i decided to give my own take on this <3. | can definitely be read as a reader insert, but the driver will driver under a specific flag and related to a famous driver! even so, physical descriptions will not be given, so you can definitely picture yourself
our fem!driver has a few titles to her name! the most well known, echo, comes from her championship winning f3 & f2 seasons, where she was consistently the fastest driver in the grid, leaving behind only a faint trace of her presence for the other drivers to see.
other nicknames include "lightning" due to her great performances on wet races (as the media says, the only thing faster than the rain is the lightning.), "pg" (stands for both princess of the grid, which is an old karting nickname, and parental guide, given due to her young age), and the legacy.
she is the daughter of ex- formula one driver, rubens barrichello. she drivers under the brazilian flag. i picture her as the middle child, so that would place her date of birth between '01 & '04.
has a streak of four consecutive championship winning years: the italian formula 4 in 2019, freca in 2020, formula 3 in 2021 and formula 2 in 2022.
art grand prix girlie! has been with the french team for both her f3 and f2 seasons.
she was a red bull junior, but was suddenly cut from the team after her formula 3 season. helmut mark claimed that she wasn't consistent enough to justify a contract renewal, which was clearly bullshit as she had literally won the championship.
competed in formula 2 without an academy, but was in talks with porsche to join their team.
committing to her lightning nickname, she chose 95 as her number!
grew up in the paddock! her dad loved to take her around the world with him, and she became a familiar face to all crew and drivers. although she is the youngest of the current grid, she is closer to the oldest guys due to knowing them since she was very young.
outside of formula 1, her closest friends are gabriel bortoleto, felipe drugovich, frederik vesti, liam lawson and clément novalak.
within formula 1, she is closest to fernando alonso, lewis hamilton (both who met her when she was a baby), mick schumacher (her teammate at porsche), lando norris, alex albon and oscar piastri. but she is friendly with everyone, and tries to know them better — it does help that she is a social butterfly who could talk to the walls even if they don't answer.
about porsche: have been in the talks of joining the grid for a long time, and finally got their approval for 2023. they could go for veteran drivers but decided against it, placing their bets of mick schumacher, who had just been dropped from haas, and y/n barrichello, the f2 champion.
when the news dropped, it was the talk of the town! not only she would be the first female to compete in formula one in several years, but the duo barrichello-schumacher would be present again in the grid!
actually loves doing grill the grid and other challenges. some people think it's the rookie rush, but she has always loved playing those games.
has the biggest fat girl crush on susie wolff. would kiss the ground she walks if she could.
still needs a lot pr training due to amount of cursing and off-pocket things she says. apparently saying "i'll throw myself in front of verstappen's car and change the trajectory of his entire life" is not socially acceptable, neither is saying that she's plotting his accidental death.
sponsored by vivienne westwood, which she claims is probably the coolest thing to happen to her.

I like separatism, but I don’t practice it fully. After calling three different places to fix the A/C, I’m bound to just go with cheapest and fastest.
I ask, “do you have any female workers that can come out?” The man on the phone seemed flustered by my question. “My dog is aggressive towards men”. But no women work there. Except for the office. Which does employ women, he reassures me, as he stutters.
Clearly, I am the first to ask.
Separatism is psychologically freeing. Why not invest in each other? Anything a man can do, a woman can too. Maybe not every woman—many of us stay in our roles at least partially and this limits us—but enough women pave paths. I offer myself as proof.
But it’s far from convenient. Every day it becomes more difficult to band together… as our language is ripped from our tight hands. White knuckles. Desperation. “It didn’t used to be like this”.
Today the public sphere is online, owned by men and male ideology. Women cannot speak freely, despite the protected right to spew abuse that our male counterparts enjoy.
“We used to be matriarchal, earth-loving”. Can we go back? Is it that simple?
Perhaps if all women just meet on farms and regain independence… “Dependence fosters abuse”. Is a homestead and female community enough to escape it all?
It’s hard to say. How many of you follow through? Why not join one of the 50 or so women’s lands in the United States (where most of us reside)?
In the ’70s and ’80s, there were around 150 such communities in the US. Today, these lands are dying out. Many of the people running them are in their 70s or older. Within a decade, will these women and these lands still be here? We don’t know.
How did this happen? Is it just a cultural shift? Why does women’s culture seem so fragile and fleeting compared to others’? How are we surrounded by ancient male religions and centuries, if not millennia, of redundant male philosophy?
A large part of this has to with how culture is spread. There is a current success rate of 81-89% for political belief transmission from parents to teenagers. Men don’t live as long and yet they are more influential because they are experts at this. It’s why they’re all so desperate to have a partner. To have a “legacy”. It’s why men being unpartnered is considered a crisis.
By having children for free through women’s labor, yet remaining the highest family authority, men get to succeed in spreading their ideologies. Having two children is the baseline, enough to “replace” the parents. More is power. Either way, reproduction is used as a tool of ideological expansion.
To create change, we must ask who is having and teaching children. If over 4 out of 5 children are going to occupy the same political space as their parents, who are the women and men who are raising the future? Or more importantly, why is it not us?
Perhaps it’s worth considering that a woman’s land dedicated to fostering girls is the answer. To keep our rights, we must consider raising feminists. As of 2021, there were 191,037 girls in U.S. foster care. Why not have them be the future?

Pecking Order (Farmer x Hayden)
I haven't posted fic on tumblr before, but people have been so unexpectedly lovely about this silly fic on AO3 so I thought I'd share it here too 🐔🐣
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
House chickens must wear many hats. To Henrietta’s relief, those hats were figurative; she never much cared for the indignities of clothing. Ribbons were another matter, especially ones bestowed on award podiums. She wore those with pride.
But Henrietta was more than a show chicken. She was a house chicken, and that meant she was a pest controller, a therapist, a taskmaster. A friend.
Well, not a friend to all. Hayden was her person, and she didn’t see much need for the rest of them. At least Ryis had a healthy admiration for birds - she let him pet her, on occasion.
The others were hopeless. Balor, Valen, and Errol gave her a wide berth, which was respectful, but none of them ever bothered to bring her treats. Celine did, but she was too nervous to feed Henrietta by hand now.
She hadn’t meant to peck the girl. It was a simple misunderstanding, one a flattened palm would’ve solved.
March was the worst of all. He didn’t address her by name, only as “chicken.” When she pecked him, she meant it.
But then, there was this new person. “The Farmer.”
Henrietta considered the nickname an impertinence. Hayden was the farmer in Mistria. His people had worked this land for generations.
Henrietta Jubilation Featherbottom knew something about legacies. She was a part of the most award winning lineage to ever grace chickendom. She’d raised a whole brood of blue ribbon birds, and she had Hayden to thank for that. Any affront to his honor was an attack on her own good name.
Hayden didn’t seem to mind the other farmer, though. He even let the interloper join game night. He broke the news to her over a bowl of popcorn, as if it was only natural to include this fraud. “Used to be an adventurer before settling down here. Imagine the stories!”
An adventurer indeed. Sounded like a rootless, chickenless existence - more of a rogue than a farmer, if you asked her. When their new guest arrived, Henrietta clucked with all the derision she could muster.
In return, she received a handful of wild berries. Palm flat, and steady.
“Nice to meet you, Henrietta.”
Well mannered. That was a surprise.
Hayden gave Henrietta an encouraging pet. “Isn’t that thoughtful?”
She kept a wary eye on the stranger while she plucked and pecked at the ripened fruit. Hayden rubbed at the back of his neck - a nervous habit.
Why should he be nervous? Henrietta studied his kind face, the one she’d known since she broke out of her egg. He was blushing.
“Ah, she’s made a bit of a mess. Sorry about your hand.”
Henrietta trilled, indignant. She was a dainty eater. Juice stains were to be expected, and his embarrassment degraded them both.
The so-called farmer smiled at Hayden, and gave him a rakish wink. “Better berries than monster blood.”
The cheek! But Hayden seemed quite charmed - he hardly noticed their other guests arriving, and the color never quite left his face. Valen even asked if he was feverish.
Amusing jokes, exciting anecdotes, nice manners… by the end of the night, Henrietta had to concede that this new human was well socialized.
Over the next few weeks, a routine took shape. Sweetwater was the fastest route to the museum from the other farm. On the way, offerings were made: berries for Henrietta, and coffee for Hayden. Not every day, but close. Henrietta often joined them at the kitchen table - gossip was her secret joy, and there was plenty to go around. Apparently, Valen was spending an awful lot of time with that witch who ran the bathhouse.
Hayden took a sip of coffee. “Good for them. Life’s meant to be shared, isn’t it?” Henrietta watched his warm brown eyes widen. Hayden coughed, and set his coffee down so hard that it sent a spoon flying. The clatter ruffled Henreitta’s feathers, but she smoothed them for his sake. Poor Hayden was blushing enough already.
“That’s why ranching is so rewarding. I’m glad you decided to get a coop - how are the girls doing so far?”
“They’re great. Thanks for setting up the see-saw, it’s been a big hit.”
Henrietta had met the girls once, under Hayden’s watchful gaze. It was clear they needed a strong matriarch, but Hayden scooped her up before her beak could do its work.
That was alright. Henrietta could be patient - they’d be joining her flock soon enough.
After all, Henrietta was nothing if not perceptive. She knew a courtship when she saw one, even if it lacked the usual dropped wing and dizzying dance. The gifts, the fleeting touches, the lingering looks… honestly, she couldn’t understand what they were waiting for.
Once the leaves began to turn, Hayden confided in her. Not just her - Ryis and Valen were there too. They didn’t equal her in wisdom or tact, but such gatherings were good enrichment for humans. She listened politely, and cooed in agreement when Ryis stated the obvious: “Hayden, we know. Everyone knows. You’ve been attached at the hip all summer.”
More blushing. “Why didn’t you say anything?”
Valen shrugged, and swirled her glass of wine. “What’s there to say? We all thought you were already dating.”
Hayden rubbed the back of his neck. “Well, we aren’t. I don’t think so, anyway.”
They all laughed. Or clucked impishly, in Henrietta’s case. Once Ryis recovered, he put a gentle hand on Hayden’s shoulder. “You’d know. The next time you’re together, just speak from the heart. Trust me.”
The four of them were halfway through a fiendish jigsaw puzzle when Errol burst through the front door. Henrietta dropped the piece she was nibbling on and nearly fell off the table in shock - such an entrance!
The man’s face was as white as his beard. He looked absolutely stricken. “Please, come quickly. The mines -”
Henrietta trilled in alarm. Only their semi-retired adventurer would be so foolish. So brave.
The others charged off without her, leaving Henrietta sick with worry. She tore open a bag of premium treats, but the tasty morsels did little to soothe her.
Finally, Hayden returned with Valen and the intrepid patient. Henrietta was ready with a lecture about the dangers of monster hunting, but she received no promises of hanging up the blade. Just a pat on the head, and a crushed berry.
“As your doctor, I can’t advise you to hand feed livestock right now. You’re more prone to infection if she-”
“-she won’t. Here you go, Henrietta. I plucked this off a bush as they were dragging me out of the narrows.”
It was the nicest one she ever tasted.
Naturally, Henrietta was an accomplished nurse. She set to work, nestling at the patient’s feet on the couch while Valen gave Hayden instructions.
“This one has to be taken with food, twice a day. Something simple, like toast.”
Eggs and toast, surely. Henrietta began to doze.
When she awoke a while later, she wasn’t surprised to find another set of feet to warm. The two of them were laying in each other’s arms beneath her favorite checkered blanket.
They were mindful not to disturb her, but Henrietta allowed them their cooing and preening and kissing. Humans were such soft, silly creatures.
And now she had two to look after. Henrietta drifted back to sleep, and added another figurative hat to her collection: matchmaker.

I hope you don’t mind me asking, but how could someone like you, who otherwise has such based opinions, be a fan of Stalin? How do you reckon with his crimes? Especially when Trotskyism is right there for you to follow instead?
i'm not a 'fan' of stalin--i don't consider myself a 'fan' of any historical person. i would not even consider myself a 'fan' of people whom i admire, who have seriously influenced my thinking with their theory (e.g. lenin). and for much the same reason i am not a 'fan' of stalin i feel no need to reckon with 'his' crimes--he was just one person. stalin neither 'perpertrated the purges' nor 'starved ukraine' nor 'industrialized the USSR' nor 'defeated nazism'. he would have had to be a very busy man to execute all those folks and eat all that grain and mine all that coal and kill all those fascists on his own!
i think inasmuch as stalin personally influenced policy in the USSR, he mostly did so for the worse (e.g., encouraging a lot of the social reaction of the 30s in regards to LGBT and women's rights and national minorities, standing by lysenko long after it became clear that his theories were bullshit) -- where he did so for the better, it was usually because he recognised the value of adopting the positions of someone who was a better and more capable theorist. so i don't care for the lionization of the man that goes on in some circles.
however, i'm not interested in condemning him as some cartoonish supervillain either. if you have gotten the impression that i am a 'fan' of stalin, it is likely because i refuse to repeat anticommunist propaganda about how he killed One Gazillion People, because i sharply shut down anybody i see trying to propagate the fascist double genocide myth, because i think that the positive achievements of the USSR in the 1930s and 1940s--improving the lives of millions, performing one of the fastest industrializations in history, defeating German fascism--are impressive and laudable and refusing to learn from them because of a fear of 'stalinism' (something which i don't think meaningfully exists or ever did) is misguided and counterproductive, and because i think that the failures of that period are better understood as the results of the legacy of russian chauvinism and of the strain on soviet political systems caused by the civil war and wwii rather than the liberal conception of history where stalin, god-emperor of russia, unilaterally decided to Be Evil because he was a Sicko
as for why i'm not a trotskyist, i've covered that here. i simply don't think that any of trotsky's critiques were useful to anybody except the US empire, i think most of trotsky's theoretical positions are wrong, and i've had nothing but deeply deeply negative interactions with trotskyist organizations in the real world.

Raise our Glass... to the
Story of Us
Le Sserafim is one of the hottest and rising groups in the K-pop world. Filled with the concept of fierce, strength, and confidence, making many people stan, and even support them to the fullest.
As one of the fastest-rising groups in the world, they also achieved some feats that are quite impressive for a rookie group. You can also say that this is because of the members.
We all know Sakura and Chaewon, not only they are part of the Le Sserafim, but they are also former Iz*one members. The experience they have is unequaled, they share their experience with their fellow members, giving them a glimpse of what to expect in the duration of their career.
We can include Yunjin here, as we all know, she also participated in the survival show where Sakura and Chaewon participated. The only thing here is, that she is not fortunate enough to get into Iz*one but enough about that. Yunjin redeemed herself which led her to be a member of the Le Sserafim.
Le Sserafim then continued in their promotions, not even a disappointment from their fans. They continue to grow as time goes on and this time, the group is inside their building, practicing with full determination.
And now here they are, loved by the world and continuing to achieve awards and create their own legacy through their music and charisma.
Also amidst their portrait in the public as fearless girls, they are dorks inside their hearts. With each one having the perfect fit for each other's personality, they go well. This also results in chaos, which is good because if there is no chaos, there is no peace.
"Can anyone remind me why we let Kazuha make a dance on this part again?" Yunjin asked in regret.
"What unnie? It's easy!" Kazuha said with her ever-beautiful smile and did the move again.
"THAT'S BECAUSE YOU ARE FLEXIBLE!" Chaewon the short-tempered radish roared.
"You just suck unnie! Bleh!" Eunchae teased then made the dance move flawlessly.
"I can't you two," Chaewon muttered as she surrendered to the mindset of their maknaes. Sakura who is watching them is doing good than the others.
"Oh, I can't do this shit. Can I just do an opera thingy?" Yunjin asked their director.
"Opera? How do you plan in that Yunjin-ssi?" The director asked.
"It's like I will sing one opera song and then Kazuha will dance her ballet in the opening segment. After that, we will go back to our original concept then voila~," Yunjin suggested which caught the interest of their director.
"That's a good plan. We'll dismiss you guys for now to see the possibility of Yunjin's idea okay?" Their director said which the girls cheered on.

*knock knock*
"Come in!" Yunjin said and the person who knocked entered the room where Yunjin and her members were.
"Y/n oppa! I MISSED YOU!" The maknae of the group ran and hugged him tightly like he was her teddy bear.
"Oof. Miss you too marshmallow," Y/n said while he let go of the plastic bags he was holding to reciprocate the hug of the younger girl.
"Wow, your best friend is here Yunjin," Chaewon with a tone and Yunjin just shrugged and showed a smile that made her eyes wrinkle as her mind was at joy seeing the boy who once confessed to her but only to be rejected because of her decision to become an idol.
Usually, when you are rejected by the person it equates to the two of you being awkward and like your minds separates you from each other. But this unique time, Y/n may be rejected but his heart is not hurt. As one of Yunjin's best friend, he values the time of their moments rather than the day of his rejection.
But there is also one phrase that Y/n held on to until now, and that is
*flashback*
Yunjin and Y/n are sitting on a bench near the HYBE building where the girl is training to be an idol. Yunjin here just got picked up by one of the subsidiaries, Source Music who is creating a debut team that can make the world stage.
Y/n and Yunjin's friendship has been strong from the start, not even a crack is visible on their bond. An extremely extroverted girl is with an introverted boy who is just content with what is going on in his life right now.
Though in the eyes of a stranger, the two are couples, in reality, they aren't. Well now not yet, both are yearning for each other. They are at the point of finding one's comfort and presence but one thing that stops them is their dreams.
You can't go into life expecting full fantasy, you need to be ready for the plot twist as well. Life has never been easy, but when you have a mate that helps you go through it, it feels like you are on cloud 9, floating from the darkness lurking from the bottom.
"Aren't you tired?" Y/n asked the girl that was wrapped in his arms.
"I'm tired. But I'm not the one who gives up on my dream you know?" Yunjin said which made the boy chuckle.
"Ahhh Yunjin~ you are so stubborn sometimes," Y/n playfully scolded the girl, making them share each other's laugh under the beautiful sun.
"So why did you call me here? You're not the one who plans these kinds of stuff," Yunjin asked.
"Damn right. I gathered my whole self for this moment," Y/n said which made Yunjin giggle. Honestly, Yunjin knows where this is going.
"Huh Yunjin. What the fuck did you do to this former quiet boy back then? Why am I rambling now? The things that only you can do to me, the fuzziness I feel when you are near me, the butterflies when I see your smile, you make me flustered when you tease me even though it's bullshit," Yunjin laughed at Y/n's confession since it's her first and didn't expect it that it will be this good.
"But in the end, it's you. It's not your body, your beauty that makes me like this. It's you, It's your charms, the way you take me as your own. Every alone time we have you make me the happiest person alive and for that I made my decision," Y/n stopped and breathed deeply before looking into Yunjin's eyes.
"I may not be the one who expresses myself a lot but with you, I feel I can. So Huh Yunjin, will you be my girlfriend?" Y/n dropped the biggest question he asked and Yunjin stared at the boy with a smile.
Yunjin then steals a peck on Y/n's lips which surprised the boy. Yunjin then holds Y/n's hands making them look at each other's orbs that captivated their heart.
"I cannot, for now. We are preparing for our debut and I don't have the heart that can leave you alone in the air. So for now, I will be straight in my answer," Yunjin said even though her heart was telling her to tell Y/n the opposite. The boy on the other hand is not sad nor disappointed, but he understands where Yunjin is coming from. Though there's a tinge of scratch in his heart, Y/n keeps it cool and Yunjin then puts her hands on his cheeks, caressing it with a smile.
"Wait for me. I promise you that I may not be the best girlfriend ever but the happiness we had will be more and more. When the right day comes, I will ask you the same question and there if you still love me, let's be together for the rest of our lives. Okay?" Yunjin said full of gratitude and sincerity as she knew Y/n could be disappointed but the boy held the hand that was on his cheeks with a smile.
"Whatever or whenever that happens, I will be waiting Huh Yunjin," Y/n said, making the both of them smile.
Y/n may not have achieved what he wants, but the promise is enough for him to have faith in, especially for the future.
*flashback end*
For Y/n to wait for Yunjin until she is ready and in control of her life carrying her career. Juggling love life with a career will be hard and Y/n understands this and for that, he is ready to do what it takes to wait for her beloved girl.
"Sup Chae, anything interesting?" Y/n asked the leader of the group.
"Nothing as usual, how bout you? You creating music again?" The radish asked him back and the latter nodded.
"Yep, this one is good. In my opinion tho," Y/n said as he carried the maknae who was hugging like a koala.
"Oh? Care to share?" Yunjin said as she took a seat beside the boy.
"I plan for it to be sung by you so for now, wait," The boy said to his best friend and she just pouted but later nodded.
"Okay. Oh, wait, where are the chaotic Japanese sisters?" Y/n asked as the other members shrugged.
"Zuha is probably buying snacks at the vending machine and Kkura, may be sleeping in the corner," Chaewon said, and true to her words, the girl who has beauty in her name is sleeping at the corner like a princess.
"Damn I know I have my sight at Yunjin but you cannot ignore noona's beauty," Y/n said which made the conscious members giggle.
"Can't even argue with you there," Yunjin said while nodding while the maknae who was hugging me earlier was now sitting beside me.
"How about me oppa? Is Eunchae beautiful?" The maknae cutely asked and this one is a no-brainer.
"Didn't even need to think twice Manchae," Y/n said and ruffled her hair.
"I swear that you are siblings at this point," Yunjin said.
"Hey, I'm the only child. Having a lil sis like Eunchae is awesome," Y/n said and Eunchae nodded like the child she is making Chaewon and Yunjin squeal in awe.
Asked time went by, the Fimmies' break time ended and there, the Japanese duo noticed Y/n. Kkura greeted him with a chill and calm hello while Zuha... Let's just say she managed to plan a prank in about 3 seconds which is hella scary but is successful in pulling it on Y/n which the latter groaned at.
The Le Sserafim girls continued their practice afterward with Y/n still watching them go into their position and as always, they slayed. There are times when the maknaes live up to their name as they begin annoying their unnies but other than that, there's nothing special happened.
Of course, the maknaes targeted Chaewon first which to their credit, made her annoyed which was a win and Sakura just shrugged as she was immune from the attacks, while Yunjin, just laughed at them. Overall, the Le Sserafim is still humans! That is what makes them better! So to y'all bashers out there, grow up!
Anyways, Y/n excused himself at one point and the girls just nodded at him and the boy immediately ran to the toilet, visibly, he had many to unload...
_______________
Hours passed, and Y/n arrived at the HYBE in the morning and now, the sun is preparing to set from the horizon, giving the time to her partner, the moon along with its star friends. Not only the sun, but the girls will also take a rest now as if they want proficiently, they also need to listen to their body.
Wrapping up their dance practice, the instructor said goodbye and left while the other staff helped the idols who were cleaning the practice room now. Y/n as he saw them, he is proud. Proud that the idols that befriended him were not just for fame, but also full of humility and responsibility. As Y/n is sitting, he decided to help them too to somewhat ease their workload even if it is a wee bit.
After a bit of cleaning everywhere, the girls then went to their plans for the night. Y/n heard from Chaewon that she and Eunchae will go their home as she promised the maknae for a meal which sounds amazing while the Japanese duo will eat sushi as they crave it, then this leaves me with Yunjin.
The said girl and Y/n now are on the rooftop of the HYBE building as there is a garden on it for the idols to have a safe even if it is not that big. Since Yunjin is now well known as a celebrity in the area, having her with a boy can cause rumors not only for the company but ultimately for herself and her group. It's not a good time for them to have a rumor especially since they are still planting their name with one of the best in the industry.
Now that the two are outside, the sky is the time that everyone calls the golden hour. The orange skies and the sun peek at the horizon, ready to bring light to another part of the world. Sometimes, we just ask how did it happen. The beauty of nature is incomparable to anything man-made.
As Y/n was watching the sunset, Yunjin was at the back, looking at the boy with a small smile on her face. Yunjin couldn't be more happy as she found the greatest gem in her life, in this case, you. Y/n really did what Yunjin said, he waited patiently and this time, she wanted to end that wait for your end.
Yunjin thought about this after their Unforgiven comeback, this is also the time when she has control of her schedules, making it possible to make some time for Y/n.
Now with full confidence, Yunjin stood up and slowly walked closer to Y/n until she stopped. The boy who has his eyes closed and enjoying the natural air doesn't know what the girl behind her is planning. Yunjin then took this chance and wrapped her arms around Y/n's torso, making the boy widen his eyes as the girl who was hugging him nuzzled her head on his back.
"Y-Yunjin?! What are you doing?!" Y/n stuttered making the girl laugh.
"Thank you for waiting Y/n," Yunjin softly said, and the once-flustered Y/n calmed down and turned to face the girl who hugged him.
"Three years is a long time. You could have loved other girls than me, you may see and court some beauties as well but here you are, with me today, still clinging to the promise I made years ago. Jung Y/n, just like what I said in the past. Will you be my boyfriend?" Yunjin asked as she put her hands around his neck.
Instead of words, Y/n went for the kiss as his answer. Back then, Yunjin stole a kiss from Y/n, but now Y/n is here to take back what his from the start.
Their lips moved as one as the love that was stuck in their hearts was now free and they had the right to dance and show the hidden love but now, without limitations.
Fireworks after fireworks, Yunjin thought that this was worth it. Not a hint of regret from her past because now, she is ready to make it up for the future. Y/n on the other was overjoyed as his wait had now come to an end.
As they share their passion and love, the skies illuminate the gold and orange skies. Just as how beautiful the sky is, the love between former friends who are now couples illuminates it, making it one of the most beautiful moments in their life.
_______________
"Y/n, you can start now okay?" Yunjin said as the other members were behind her, eager to hear Y/n's voice singing in front of his now girlfriend.
"Hey Y/n, make Yunjin face what she missed for the last three years," Chaewon teased.
"CHAEWON! What was that?!" Yunjin said like she was insulted but the other members just laughed at her with Y/n giggling inside the booth.
"Oppa! You are gonna do well! I trust you!" Eunchae cheerfully said.
"Yeah! After this song, Yunjin unnie will marry you!" Kazuha said, garnering another round of laughter from the group while Yunjin was just blushing right now.
"Okay, stop punishing my girlfriend now. I will sing now, start it Yunjin," Y/n said proudly which made the girls coo loudly at him. Yunjin smiled at Y/n and the boy reciprocated it.
"Ready when you are Y/n," Yunjin said and Y/n raised his thumb. Yunjin then muted her microphone and started the music.

(Ctto; Better to listen to this cover for this part)
Y/n POV
It's kinda shitty isn't it
Not the way we pictured it
Feels like an existential crisis
Or am I being dramatic?
I looked at Yunjin as the first part commenced. Yes, we do have an interesting friendship, we may be close now but back then, many factors tried to separate us two. Does it reach the point of what are we gonna do from now?
I wish the world would shut its mouth
Give me space to fucking sort it out
Like, I'm fine, just leave me alone
I'm great on my own
The world is a bitch sometimes, but these words are not for me, it's for Yunjin. One of the most painful things to see is the hurtful comments thrown not only at her but also at the rest of her members. Many people don't know the hardships their girls went through.
But if I'm being honest
I'd hate to waste us on this
But I truly hope they find their own peace of mind
Yes, it's true, who are they to meddle with someone else's life? We live in different areas with people of different mindsets, but for now, we'll focus on ours.
I don't know what I'd be doing without you
You love who I am
'Cause I don't care as long as I'm with you
I'll reach for your hand
In this ugly world where the color is fading
You're beautiful in every color and shade I~
Don't know if you drink
Yeah, Huh Yunjin. I can't imagine a life without you. From the moment we started, it was all happiness. Our journey was not all rainbows and sunshine but heck, you made my world colorful, even just with your smile. With this Yunjin,
But raise a glass to the past in the story of us
A little bit of complication never hurt my body I know
But it's different when the target is your mind
The world targets everything in you, yet here you are my girl, still strong not only for yourself but also for your members. You are a vitamin, giving me a reason, all of us a reason to be happy.
And everybody's talking shit
No bigger hypocrite, it's fine, though
My sisters and I we sympathize
And I can see your unity with your members, the way you move as a team. No matter what words are being thrown into your head, you don't mind them.
But if I'm being honest
Never thought that I would have this
Back when all I needed was people who will stay
You stayed with me in all my lows Huh Yunjin, you didn't even hesitate when I called you for help. You made me the person I am today and for that,
I don't know what I'd be doing without you
You love who I am
'Cause I don't care as long as I'm with you
Yeah! I don't care about anybody, when I'm with you I'm happy, and that is now my promise to you.
I'll reach for your hand
In this ugly world where the color is fading
You're beautiful in every color and shade I~
Don't know if you drink
But raise a glass, 'cause
I will not get tired of saying these words to you my love. To be honest, I don't like to drink, but to the story of us, it needs exemptions hehe...
It took a while to get here
I'm fearless but I still fear
You'll disappear
'Cause I couldn't be
The person that you need
I won't ever leave
We made a promise back then, many days, weeks, and months has passed but neither, but neither one of us even tried to weaken our strong bond. My nightmare is when I'm not with you, because Yunjin, my life has been you. Now, that we're a couple, listen my dear.
I don't know what I'd be doing without you
You love who I am
'Cause I don't care as long as I'm with you
I'll reach for your hand
In this ugly world where the color is fading
You're beautiful in every color and shade I, I~
In this ugly world where the color is fading
You're beautiful in every color and shade I~
Don't know if you drink
But raise a glass
To the story of us
3rd Person POV
Y/n sang the last lyrics and not even a minute passed, Yunjin barged into the booth with tears on her face, she then hugged Y/n as tears of joy, pain, and gratitude combined in her mind.
Y/n smiled and hugged the girl back, also rubbing her back to calm her down. Yunjin nuzzles her face to Y/n's neck and she enjoys the warmth of his boyfriend, who stayed with her and treasured her. The loyalty Y/n presented to the girl is enough for Yunjin to love him unconditionally.
The Le Sserafim members saw this moment and smiled. They may not speak but internally, they all agreed to go out for a bit just to let the two have their comfort and privacy.
"Didn't know that you are that talented," Yunjin said with sniffles in between as she calmed down.
"I just wrote that based on what we and you've been through. I think it went well?" Y/n asked, unsure of what to say.
"More than well. Y/n, many problems dawned upon us but we stayed strong, it's like our problem doesn't even make us flinch anymore. We are fearless when we're together and I can't even thank you enough for what you've done. Like what you said at the end, raise a glass, to the story of us," Yunjin said with a smile and looked up on my face.
The two slowly attracted each other and slowly, their faces leaned closer and again, the love, the spark, and the passion inside them strengthened once again.
The two of them have been loyal to each other. They may have their choices, but they never forget one another.
Not long after, they ended the kiss and looked at each other with hearts shooting from their eyes. The warmth radiating between them is so strong and maybe, it will be stronger in the future.

NASCAR Pantera ‐ First To 300
A reporter sat in a late-night cafe, sipping coffee and attempting to calm his nerves after a high-speed ride with Gary and his Pantera. The deafening roar of the V-8 engine still echoed in his mind, and his hands shook as he held his cup. It was as if he had just escaped from the clutches of the devil himself. Tragically, a few minutes later the devil caught up with Garry Mitsunaga and his red Pantera!
For students of Japanese car culture, the Mitsunaga Pantera that graced the cover of Option Magazine is a significant page of Asian tuning lore, as it was the first street-legal vehicle to achieve a recorded speed of 300 km/h in Japan.
Actual speed was 307.69 km/h on the infamous Yatabe Test Circuit in November 1981, making it the most legendary Pantera in all of Japan. Figuring Yatabe was too dangerous for civilian drivers, and wanting to take the human element of unpredictability out of things, driving duties at this event were performed by professional racer Kunimitsu Takahashi, who is considered the father of drifting.
Yatabe was the preeminent destination for high-speed testing in Japan from the 1960s to the 1990s. However, it was closed two decades ago due to a tragic accident involving Masa Saito, the editor of the tuning magazine Option. After the accident manufacturers started shifting towards more contemporary testing facilities.
Prior to the Porsche-vs-Skyline dreams of the 1990s, the streets of Japan were ruled by the infamous Midnight Club running Pantera's, Firebirds and American V-8s. For those unaware of the Pantera, it is an Italian-American sportscar with a Ford 351 Cleveland engine and were sold in the early 70's through Lincoln Mercury dealerships.
Leading up to November 1981, top speeds were achieved by vehicles such as the S30 Fairlady, tuned by SS Kubo, which reached a maximum speed of 257.60km/h. The fastest imported car, surprisingly, was the Trust Firebird Trans-Am, which recorded a top speed of 264.71km/h. So when the Pantera eclipsing the 300km/h mark it was a huge leap forward and a landmark achievement, becoming the benchmark for all the street racers and tuners to beat.
Mitsunaga was not entirely content. Only a speed above 320 km/h (200 mph) would suffice. It is said that Takahashi advised him against driving the Pantera outside of a racetrack. Mitsunaga disregarded the warning.
Just before the accident, he was transporting a journalist down a 38 kilometer (24 mile) stretch of the Tomei Expressway. With a recorded time of 6 minutes and 20 seconds he averaged 250 KM/H ( ~160 MPH).
Not long after dropping off that rattled journalist, he supposedly totaled his Pantera while avoiding a taxi. They meet their end at approximately 1:40 a.m. on November 28, 1981. Tragically, Mitsunaga died in the accident, instantly.
At the moment of his death, Garry Allan Mitsunaga was already a legend in the Japanese dragstrip and top-speed racing scene. He was an American, born in Hawaii and employed by the Harman Kardon audio group. The company sent him to Tokyo in 1975 to work for one of its Japanese divisions, in sales.
Upon his passing, he was revered as a patron saint of street racing, inspiring countless individuals to pursue ever-greater velocities. Despite his non-Japanese origin, he was a hero to the local community, and his legacy lived on through the Mitsunaga Pantera, a symbol of both the thrill and the peril of this high-octane pursuit. Although the whereabouts of the Pantera are unknown, its engine showed up for sale in 1995.
NASCAR
Mitsunaga's Pantera, was tuned by Masaru Hosoki from ABR, one of Japans most famous tuners. It also featuring a 600hp engine built by Mario Rossi, an American NASCAR mechanic and crew chief for the likes of Bobby Allison and Glenn “Fireball” Roberts. Rossi was also the guy that built the only Dodge Daytona to compete during the 1971 season. It's only race was finishing 7th at the Daytona 500 with a de-stroked Plymouth 340 TA engine to meet the new 305ci engine displacement mandate for the five Ford & Chrysler aero cars during the 1971 NASCAR season.
Rossi has been embroiled in controversy since his involvement in the $300 million drug smuggling scandal that shook NASCAR in 1982. Four days after the 1982 Daytona 500 in Florida, authorities arrested 66 people, including several associated with NASCAR teams, on what has been labeled “Black Thursday.” Among those implicated in the scheme that authorities believe grossed $300 million were owner Billie Harvey and driver Gary Balough from the team on which Rossi was working as a mechanic. Rossi’s role (if any) in the drug operation is unclear – though his own daughter implicates him.
Rossi's whereabouts have been a mystery since his disappearance, with some believing him to be in the witness protection program in the United States. Despite claims of his death in a plane crash off the Bahamas in 1983, the insurance company asserts that the plane in question has been sold multiple times without any recorded accidents.
What’s legend and what’s fact we are unlikely to ever know for certain. What we do know, however, is that Garry Mitsunaga and his Pantera dared to dance with the devil in the witching hour.

Bruce’s unfinished masterpiece...
Titled ‘Bruce’s Unfinished Masterpiece’ in honour of Bruce McLaren, the founder of McLaren, the M6GT is the latest race car to be stripped bare in INK’s signature minimalistic aesthetic. INK’s commemoration of McLaren’s vision revives the lost history of a car that almost slipped into obscurity.
An homage to speed and form in the purest sense, the Plainbodies series takes historical race cars and peels away their classic liveries to reveal the practical beauty in the bodies underneath. Rendered in white, the McLaren M6GT is the latest to join a line-up that includes the Ferrari 250 GTO, Ferrari 330 P4, Ford GT40, Jaguar D-Type, Porsche 917 and Porsche 959, to name a few.
Bruce McLaren, pioneering race car driver, designer, and engineer, began to conceive of the M6GT in the late 1960s, imagining it as the fastest road car in existence. Bruce McLaren’s vision for the M6GT is the genesis for all McLaren road cars. Based on the latest race technology, the M6GT was superlight, blistering quick, confidence inspiring and safe, and continues to define the McLaren brand today.
In 1969, new manufacturing regulations required McLaren to build 50 identical models of the M6GT car, a requirement that McLaren could not meet at the time. This rule would ultimately doom the M6GT, leaving it confined to the pages of history as an unfinished masterpiece.
Unfortunately, just one year later in 1970, Bruce McLaren passed away and his vision for the M6GT died with him. His legacy lived on through a race-spec prototype, the OBH 500H, which continues to tell the story of McLaren's innovative ambition to race at Le Mans and deliver a road-legal supercar only a few years after the establishment of his company.

charles leclerc - an enigmatic figure, a mysteriously open figure. washed in red, seeping it, gushing rosso corsa passion in every interview he does, and so strangely open about the gut-wrenching knife wounds of his grief.
the driver who, for so many, embodies formula one and racing passion more than any other - born in monaco, the shining jewel in formula one’s crown, raised by ferrari, the scuderia which forms the backbone of formula one’s history and its legacy and its future. was there any chance he wouldn’t be revered by those who watch him dance around racetracks across the world, any chance at all that he wouldn’t be raised effectively to canonisation by the religious fervour of the tifosi?
sanctified once in monza, in his first year of driving in bleeding red, twice again in gorgeous monaco, the stunning streets of his hometown, cheered on, willed on, wished on to victory with the screams of his beloved fans in his ears, the thoughts of those he’d lost playing in his mind as he approached the final laps. charles leclerc wins in monaco, victory in the same red car he once saw win, propelling him into his driving career.
a legend in his own right, the man who has scored ferrari’s 250th pole position, his own twenty-fourth, bringing him to be the driver with the second highest number of pole positions for ferrari, after michael schumacher himself. already, he had outstripped legends such as fernando alonso, kimi raikkonen, alberto ascari for number of pole positions in his career and he perhaps will go on for a decade or so before retiring.
charles leclerc is not at the peak of his career - i would argue he is approaching it. so many victories thrown away due to bad strategy, his car failing, finally, finally, finally he has his team behind him and a car that is capable of just enough performance to win - he may not always have the fastest car on the grid, but who needs the fastest car when you can outdrive your opponents?
he won in spa - he won in monza - he wins in monaco. the man who knew better than most how getting pole position does not guarantee you the top spot of the podium, the man who had never stepped on the podium at his home race before, he took that top step flying monegasque colours, to the tears and raucous affection of everyone present - royalty to marshals they celebrated their hometown hero in his long awaited victory of their streets.
he went from taking the bus to school on part of the track, to taking it by storm. charles leclerc is a monaco grand prix - i think perhaps not for the first time. the boy in red has realised his godfathers dream, his father’s dream, his dream.
beloved by all, the red prince of monaco rises resplendent.
Forza Ferrari! Forza Charles!
Beautifully written anon, thank you for blessing us with these words <3

Erin Reed at Erin In The Morning:
Yesterday, news broke that transgender woman and computer pioneer Lynn Conway passed away at the age of 86. Her story is nothing short of remarkable. Conway helped pioneer early supercomputers at IBM but was fired after she transitioned. She went “stealth” and had to rebuild her career from the ground up, starting as a contract programmer at Xerox with “no experience.” Then, she did it all over again, pioneering VLSI—a groundbreaking technology that allowed for microchips to be made small enough to fit in your pocket, paving the way for smartphones and personal computers. In 1999, she broke stealth, becoming an outspoken advocate for transgender people.
Conway first attempted to transition at MIT in 1957 at the age of 19 years old. At the time, the environment was not accepting enough for transgender people to do so. She would have faced enormous barriers to medical transition, as few doctors were knowledgeable enough to prescribe hormone therapy a the time. Like many transgender people seeing enormous barriers to care, she spent the following years closeted. Eventually, she was hired by IBM where she helped develop the world’s fastest supercomputer at the time on the Advanced Computing System (ACS) project. The computer would become the first to use a “superscalar” design, which made it capable of performing several tasks at once, dramatically improving its performance and making it much faster than previous computers. Despite her pivotal role in the project, she was fired when she informed her employer that she wanted to transition.
What she did next is nothing short of remarkable. Realizing that as an openly transgender woman in 1968, few companies would hire her, she went “stealth” and pretended she had no significant prior experience in computers. She quickly advanced through the ranks and was hired by Xerox, where she famously developed VLSI, or Very Large Scale Integration. This groundbreaking technology allowed for thousands of transistors to be packed onto a single chip, revolutionizing electronics by making cell phones and modern computers possible through miniaturization and increased processing power. Conway didn’t stop there. After gaining fame for her computer innovations, she came out in 1999 to advocate for transgender people. She was among the early critics of Dr. Kenneth Zucker, an anti-trans researcher still cited today by those working to ban gender-affirming care. Conway slammed Zucker for practicing “reparative therapy,” a euphemism for conversion therapy. Notably, Zucker’s research continues to make false claims that “80% of transgender kids desist from being trans,” numbers based on his clinic's practices, which closely mirrored gay conversion therapy. That clinic has since been shut down over those practices.
RIP to Lynn Conway. She was a tireless fighter for trans rights in a time that publicly supporting LGBTQ+ causes (let alone trans causes) wasn't popular, and that led to her firing from IBM in 1968.
Conway helped develop the supercomputer while at IBM, and later on at Xerox, helped developed microchip technology found in cell phones. 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈

"Meghan became the first royal to guest-edit an issue of the fashion bible for its September 2019 edition, which she collaborated on with then-editor Edward Enninful.
"The duchess chose to spotlight 15 high-profile women who she considered to be Forces for Change and included them on the cover shot by favorite fashion photographer, Peter Lindbergh, along with a mirrored square intended to represent the reflection of the reader.
"The issue also included a personal interview conducted by Meghan with former first lady, Michelle Obama, and an interview with conservationist Jane Goodall conducted by Prince Harry.
"It became British Vogue's fastest selling edition in history and was the biggest-selling issue of the past decade.
"Now, five years later, the legacy of Meghan's issue lives on. The publication has marked...the anniversary of the Forces for Change concept by asking the initial 15 trailblazing women selected by Meghan to nominate their own candidates for the honor."
#meghan the duchess of sussex#the only 'controversy' was tabloids doing their best to unleash abuse on Meghan as per usual#I remember one of the talking points was 'why didn't she nominate the queen' which is just so dumb.#Queen Elizabeth was a force for stability and continuity. The opposite of change#but of course the haters don't actually have principles. they just want to tear down Meghan#so they'll take any line of attack no matter how ridic because they simply cannot handle a progressive biracial princess#and they will never stop trying to destroy her

Day 10 A-The Grey Ghost
Day 10 A-Great
Other Stories
Other Days
USCG Enterprise WCV-6 sat outside the Newport Shipyard, fighting off the urge to doze. It was a beautiful day, the sky was clear, with just enough of an ocean breeze to keep her cool. It wasn't often she could truly relax outside of port. Even now that she was in service with the Coast Guard, she almost always had aircraft aloft, patrolling the surrounding waters. She would launch her aircraft soon enough, but for now she was waiting.
The Navy had finally finished her successor. CVN-65, the first nuclear powered aircraft carrier. Enterprise didn't quite understand the concept, something about radioactive rocks making steam, but those in charge believed it was the future. CVN-65 was not only supposed to be the largest carrier afloat, but the fastest. Enterprise had been shown the stats for the new ship to bear her name, and she had to admit they were impressive.
A horn sounded, and she glanced up as a large bow rounded the corner. The ship that was revealed was nearly half again as long as her, over twice as wide at her widest point, and nearly three times her displacement. She was also brand new.
CVN-65 U.S.S Enterprise, eighth of her name was untested, had never seen combat, not even war games…but WCV-6 had a good feeling about her.
“Hello little sister, I've been ordered to oversee your sea trials.”
“Little sister?” CVN-65 glanced down at the lead tug guiding her curiously. “Aren't I the only member of my class so far?
The tug chuckled and spoke to WCV-6, “We hadn't told her about you yet, we wanted to surprise her.”
Enterprise chuckled, “Of course. CVN-65, has anyone told you the significance of the name you have been christened with?”
“The name Enterprise is one of the United States longest legacys,” CVN-65 recited dutifully, “from the first ship to bear the name serving in the revolutionary war, to the latest and most famous of the line, the recently retired Yorktown class U.S.S. Enterprise CV-6, which served with distinction in the Pacific theater of the Second World War, becoming the most decorated American vessel of the war.”
The new supercarrier tilted her head curiously at the smaller carrier. “If it's not rude, may I ask what class you are? I don't recognize it, but you're oddly familiar…”
The tugboats and WCV-6 chuckled. “I've been refit since my Navy days,” the Carrier explained, “I am a Yorktown class.”
CVN-65’s eyes shot wide, “But that means…”
A whistle sounded and her Coast Guard Flag was lowered and replaced with the Flag of the United States Navy.
The Carrier smirked, “I was transferred, not retired.” She corrected, “and I’ve been temporarily given back to oversee your Trials. For the duration of your trials, I am once again, CV-6 U.S.S. Enterprise.”

Greek Goddess Legacy Challenge: Generation #10 Nike: Completed
Why compete if not to win? Please welcome goddess of Victory, Nike!
Growing up with 2 older brothers, you felt the constant need to prove yourself to them. Be as cool as them. as Strong as them. Be better then them, even thought they try to keep you small. and when you grow older, they find they can’t anymore. you’ve found that your strength lies in sports. running, swimming, lifting; anything you can win medals with, you love. And it so happens your favorite color is gold. so it’s decided then: you will win all gold medals in sports you can. you will be the fastest. the strongest. the best. you will not back down before you have reached your goal. You are a winner.
Little bit explanation with the sheets: - First sheet is for describing your current generation, with the challenges you need to do each life-stage. Also, because I love the myths, a bit of mythological background. May it inspire you :) - Second sheet is the preparation sheet for this generation, with important characters for your story. It is technically optional, but I love seeing sims with a backstory in my world, so I would highly recommend it. - Third sheet is for your gens children. They all have their own little challenges if your interested in those. I try to make all of them a bit different from each other, so it doesn’t get boring. Your heir is also on this sheet, but I’ve put their challenges on their own sheets. Stay tuned for those ;)
Next Generation is Artemis! Previous Generation was Nemesis First Generation is Gaia
The Greek Goddesses Challenge by LJJ-Sims is a challenge based on the ancient mythical creatures and stories from Greece. I fell in love with Greek mythology in high school and have not let that love go since. In this challenge you will follow 10 deities in their journey through life. Every goddess has a different take on and goal in life. Special about this challenge? All your kids have little challenges of their own, not only your heir. These challenges are optional, so if you feel like these are too much or just too restricting for you: by all means let them go. I also have sheets for characters that you can make before you start each generation. This gives your challenge a lot more personality and makes it frankly easier and more fun!
A little disclaimer: because I made these gods and goddesses into a legacy challenge, the relationships in the myths don’t exactly match the relationship in this challenge. There is a lot of keep it in the family in mythology, to put it lightly. And apart from the fact that you can’t do that in the Sims, I don’t really like that part. So I didn’t include it, thus the inconsistency. An example: Ares is now Hera’s stepfather instead of her son, which she conceived with her brother and husband Zeus. This inconsistency can also be found in the stories. It’s just based on and not copied exactly, as Sims live lives that are a lot shorter than those of immortal gods. And it takes a way from the creativity if we just copy the myths. Even if we wanted to do that, it’s quite hard, as every myths has its fair share of variations and some are just completely different stories.
I use the MCCC-mod to alter the length of life states. You can find the days-years ratio here: the boring stuff.
I get all the information from several sites about mythology, but mostly use https://greekgodsandgoddesses.net/goddesses. This is a great place to start if you want to know the myths surrounding a certain god or goddess. Wikipedia is also a friend of mine in this challenge, although I automatically doubt a lot of information that is on there. More of a book person? I absolutely adore Stephen Fry’s Mythos, which is very beginner friendly, and Nathalie Haynes Pandora’s jar. For little synopses of gods, I would recommend Greek Mythology: The Gods, Goddesses, and Heroes Handbook by Liv Albert.

Rivals: Jack Brabham v Stirling Moss
Alright, this is part of my series on F1 rivalries throughout history. Enjoy!
(Moss on the left, Brabham on the right)
So, sticking with the more classic era, I wanted to discuss the Brabham and Moss rivalry of the 50s and 60s. This rivalry, like many later, would be a result of differing driving styles, methods, and philosophies, but above all else an almost equal level of skill that led the two to be each others main competitors.
These two drivers knew each other before they entered F1, crossing paths multiple times in other motorsport series. Brabham, from Australia, was a methodical, collected, and engineering-driven driver, who played a massive part in the development of F1 cars. His personality was also the more reserved one, being quietly determined for most of his career. Moss, an Brit, on the other hand was regarded as the most naturally gifted of his generation. He was confident, aggressive, instinctive, and had a rather flamboyant personality.
(Moss taking a swig of a drink with his arm around Brabham)
Straight away you can see the heavy contrast between them. But how did it start? Well, in the late 1950s these two were at the top of the field. They had been competing for years at this point, but it wasn't until 1959 that they truly fought for the title. This was also a big technological shift in F1, which added to the complexity of the season. Brabham's consistency throughout the season would win him the title, but Moss put in some fantastic races and wins, memorably a brilliant Monaco GP. But when Moss had to retire form the US GP due to mechanical failure, the title was Brabham's.
(1960, Brabham leads with Moss behind)
The rivalry continued in 1960, and although Brabham dominated (winning five races) he had to battle Moss the entire way. Their contrasting fortunes was a big part of this year, as Brabham seemed on top of the world but Moss continued to suffer more mechanical problems with his car. It seemed like this rivalry was destined to remain this way, as Moss' car continuously showed as a lesser one compared to Brabham. This did not stop Moss from fighting for wins, which displays his incredible skill.
(Brabham in 1961)
1961 and 1962 were much the same, but 1962 saw Brabham found his own F1 team, Brabham Racing. In this he took a much more engineering side to F1, while still driving. 1962 also saw Moss get into a near fatal crash, which marked the end of his F1 career.
(Moss whispering in Brabham's ear, allegedly with advice, right before a 1963 race)
Throughout all of this the two drivers had the utmost respect for the other, much like Ascari and Fangio. They openly admired each other and had a strong understanding of how the other driver operated. Moss often praised Brabham's technical prowess, and Brabham lauded Moss' natural skills, saying he was often the fastest driver on the grid. Beyond that, they were also good friends. Brabham went down as one of the greatest technical drivers in F1 history, and Moss as one of the greatest who never won a championship.
They left behind a legacy of technical innovation (Brabham), but also a rise in the prominence of natural talent (Moss). Much like Fangio and Ascari they also created a tradition of opposite style drivers being rivals, and a strong mutual respect that still translates to many modern F1 rivalries.
(Moss and Brabham in 2008)
Alright, that is a quick look at the Brabham v Moss rivalry. Just a note, during this time both drivers were also considered rivals of Juan Manuel Fangio, so just remember that most drivers are heavily connected, and had multiple rivals. I just focus on certain pairings that are particularly memorable and impactful as rivals.
Cheers,
-B

NSF NOIRLab astronomers discover the fastest-feeding black hole in the early universe
NSF NOIRLab Astronomers Discover the Fastest-Feeding Black Hole in the Early Universe — Observations from JWST and Chandra reveal a low-mass supermassive black hole that appears to be consuming matter at over 40 times the theoretical limit
Supermassive black holes exist at the center of most galaxies, and modern telescopes continue to observe them at surprisingly early times in the Universe’s evolution. It’s difficult to understand how these black holes were able to grow so big so rapidly. But with the discovery of a low-mass supermassive black hole feasting on material at an extreme rate, seen just 1.5 billion years after the Big Bang, astronomers now have valuable new insights into the mechanisms of rapidly growing black holes in the early Universe.
LID-568 was discovered by a cross-institutional team of astronomers led by International Gemini Observatory/NSF NOIRLab astronomer Hyewon Suh. They used the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) to observe a sample of galaxies from the Chandra X-ray Observatory’s COSMOS legacy survey. This population of galaxies is very bright in the X-ray part of the spectrum, but are invisible in the optical and near-infrared. JWST’s unique infrared sensitivity allows it to detect these faint counterpart emissions.
LID-568 stood out within the sample for its intense X-ray emission, but its exact position could not be determined from the X-ray observations alone, raising concerns about properly centering the target in JWST’s field of view. So, rather than using traditional slit spectroscopy, JWST’s instrumentation support scientists suggested that Suh’s team use the integral field spectrograph on JWST’s NIRSpec. This instrument can get a spectrum for each pixel in the instrument’s field of view rather than being limited to a narrow slice.
“Owing to its faint nature, the detection of LID-568 would be impossible without JWST. Using the integral field spectrograph was innovative and necessary for getting our observation,” says Emanuele Farina, International Gemini Observatory/NSF NOIRLab astronomer and co-author of the paper appearing in Nature Astronomy.
JWST’s NIRSpec allowed the team to get a full view of their target and its surrounding region, leading to the unexpected discovery of powerful outflows of gas around the central black hole. The speed and size of these outflows led the team to infer that a substantial fraction of the mass growth of LID-568 may have occurred in a single episode of rapid accretion. “This serendipitous result added a new dimension to our understanding of the system and opened up exciting avenues for investigation,” says Suh.
In a stunning discovery, Suh and her team found that LID-568 appears to be feeding on matter at a rate 40 times its Eddington limit. This limit relates to the maximum luminosity that a black hole can achieve, as well as how fast it can absorb matter, such that its inward gravitational force and outward pressure generated from the heat of the compressed, infalling matter remain in balance. When LID-568’s luminosity was calculated to be so much higher than theoretically possible, the team knew they had something remarkable in their data.
“This black hole is having a feast,” says International Gemini Observatory/NSF NOIRLab astronomer and co-author Julia Scharwächter. “This extreme case shows that a fast-feeding mechanism above the Eddington limit is one of the possible explanations for why we see these very heavy black holes so early in the Universe.”
These results provide new insights into the formation of supermassive black holes from smaller black hole ‘seeds’, which current theories suggest arise either from the death of the Universe’s first stars (light seeds) or the direct collapse of gas clouds (heavy seeds). Until now, these theories lacked observational confirmation. “The discovery of a super-Eddington accreting black hole suggests that a significant portion of mass growth can occur during a single episode of rapid feeding, regardless of whether the black hole originated from a light or heavy seed,” says Suh.
The discovery of LID-568 also shows that it’s possible for a black hole to exceed its Eddington limit, and provides the first opportunity for astronomers to study how this happens. It’s possible that the powerful outflows observed in LID-568 may be acting as a release valve for the excess energy generated by the extreme accretion, preventing the system from becoming too unstable. To further investigate the mechanisms at play, the team is planning follow-up observations with JWST.
