Genuinely confused at the reaction to the Pokémon folk tales. Do people not realize most of them are repurposed from many different cultures?

Apart from that, it's very clear that the Pokémon that appears does not matter at all because there are many different versions of a single tale. The infamous Thyplosion tale was originally about Slaking, then about Piloswine. The Lapras and Octillery tales are the exact same. There's at least three variants of the Ursaring tale, and one of them is a Rapidash.

Why is everyone so shocked? Have you never heard a folk tale at all? Just off the top of my head, Greek mythology has a LOT of stories about Zeus fucking around as an animal, Rome's founding myth is literally fratricide, Egyptian mythos has a human heart being put in a scale... And suddenly you forget that exists because I guess dogshit interaction bait is too good to pass up?

Anyways. Diving deep into the leaked myths many interesting things come to light. None of the myths were used most probably because the Time/Space duality made more sense than Light/Time (the most mentioned combination), I think.

On another note, some original text has been repurposed in modern games. For example, Old Verse 18 (iirc) is identical to s mantra repeated all over the different versions of the Creation Myth: "Do not anger [Palkia]. Do not sadden [Dialga]." etc. The names are censored in the Old Verse and in the Canalave Library, but it's very clearly rhe exact same composition.

anyways, I'm currently working on a big Pokemon theology worldbuilding doc for ME and ME ALONE and it goes so deep you wouldn't believe. it also is so much fun it's as if a new game just dropped.

Since it's come to my attention a lot of folks don't know ATDAO....... here's an intro post :3c

All the Doors are Open! A funky lil sci-fi-ish, fantasy-ish, horror-ish tale about some South Australian kids going about their daily lives... oh, and also reality is collapsing and cracks between universes called Ports are appearing, letting otherworldly energy leak through and wreak havoc.

Four plotlines intertwine into one big stupid plotline, n the key players are as follows:

Tris Greer, panic attack in human form, who just witnessed a freak car accident that somehow caused his older brother to blip out of existence. The relevant authorities prove supremely unhelpful, so he takes it upon himself to find the truth and bring his brother home, even if it means a daring trip into an unstable air bubble between dimensions - a task easier said than done when he’s anxious enough just leaving the house.

Yun Sung-won, edgy intimidating badass hiding nooo insecurities or trauma whatsoever, who can suddenly bend and break the reality around her the same way Ports do. The shiny new destructive powers might be kinda cool - if the crack in reality inside her wasn’t chaotically deteriorating... and if she didn’t work for the Department of Interdimensional Instabilities, whose whole shtick is eliminating dangerous interdimensional energies.

Shara Aleng, conspiracy enthusiast and amateur paranormal investigator, who's new in town and on a mission. She's been able to see cracks in reality no one else notices since she was a kid, and, armed with just a handheld radio, she's mapping interdimensional fault lines and hunting down the source of the apocalypse.

Kai Lancaster, peddler of haunted antiques and mender of cracks in reality, who went to investigate an abandoned house for an hour and emerged to find seven years had passed. They're now grappling with the emotional and social repercussions of their trip out of time, having been tossed into a life that's moved on without them. And how can they try and re-enter their family's lives when their family has spent seven years grieving them and fighting to get back to any sense of normality?

Anyway. It's a cheesy power of friendship story about the human capacity for kindness and connection! It’s also full of horrifying things that will make your skin crawl <3 We got existential horror, we got body horror, we got cosmic horror... we got love and courage and joy in the face of despair! Also, we got mentally ill heroes, including one with psychosis and one with a dissociative disorder, whose experiences are never demonised or used as cheap plot twists :3

i got an email today from my uni that was sent to all students from the faculty i'm in and it's a job offer for a project from the uni's school museum where they catalogue and analyze old school note/exercise books from 1820-1950s and...idk i should probably apply right??? They're not even asking for a CV (mine would be empty), how often do you get that lmao. And it's only 6 hours a week, starting this October and the project is supposed to last 3 months and there is a possibilty of the museum hiring you for longer. And i mean, if it sucks i guess i can push through the 3 months? should i do it ahhhh my panic brain is screaming but it's not often that there is a job offer that is that nice

Sparkstember Day 30: Whatever!

Unbelievable... I told myself that I'd do something (something pretty damn ambitious for what I usually manage to do at that) and then I actually did it! I hope you liked the posts because I really loved preparing them!! <3 Sparks mean so much to me, which is probably very easy to see by now, haha... So I'm glad I could celebrate that with you all for this entire month!

I think this is also a good time to say thank you to this whole fandom... Because as someone who was once seriously the MOST anxious person on earth that you could possibly imagine, who couldn't even bear to be perceived by anyone or participate in any community, I feel so lucky to have you all!! I've been here for only about 4 months, but it feels like much much longer than that, because my life is completely different now in a major way. I'm no longer so terribly scared to do things I want and express myself openly, and this whole month was also an amazing opportunity for the latter! And now I truly feel stronger and more ready to face new challenges and try new things than ever before! <3 Also, thank you to the folks who have shown me support when I really needed it over those past couple of months, because without you it would have been a much much harder time :) :')

Thank you all once more and see you NOT next year, I mean, yeahhhh I'll see you next year during the next Sparkstember that's true, but I can assure you that I'll still be sparksposting and sharing more doodles in the meantime!! Hi y'all, I just wanted to talk a little about the behind the scenes of what I've been up to, to give y'all a little transparency and to open myself up for any tips or input! 🙏 Thank you for your continued support and for taking the time to look at my art 🫶

First and foremost I wanted to give some transparency about my art capacity.

As og followers may remember, I started this blog when I was doing art full time. Eventually my living expenses grew and I had to go back to work. I find myself in a cycle of "I'll make more art soon, once I get a job!" And "I'll make more art soon, once I am done with this job!" I lost my most recent job suddenly, having had an extension waved over my head until the last day(October 7th). Now I'm excited to have more time for art, but I am also feeling a rush to get a new job ASAP as I've been living paycheck to paycheck. I dream of doing this work full time, I'm just scared it's not quite there yet and I worry that I come off as scammy or dishonest when I anticipate more stability around the corner.

Second, I've been struggling with the Patreon. It's taken me a while to come to terms with this, but from what I've seen Patreon is not intuitive at all from the creator end. It doesn't do a good job of organizing addresses, emails, showing who or who isn't subscribed to me, or organizing and displaying the work I put on there. I've been really shocked by this experience, since lots of big names use Patreon. It's been a great way to streamline support, but it's been unhelpful in every other regard. I would like to continue using it, but I will most likely post more wips or process videos there in the future.

Which brings me to my third point, zines. I love making zines so much, it feels personal and fulfilling and fun! However the Patreon issues make it harder to keep information in order about where to send zines, or even where to message folks about them. In addition to this, the post office has been a big barrier to me, oftentimes only being open at the same time as my dayjob. Making zines can take days, then sending them out is a whole other monster.

This work is so important to me. Drawing peoples fantasies, representing body types, creating work around sexuality and the human experience feels like what I'm meant to do. I've made comics since I was a kid. This is the dream to me. The friends I've been able to make through this work are so important to me, and the conversations have been invaluable. Not to mention fun! I wanna doodle, I wanna draw hot stuff, I wanna thirst over these dudes! I want to play!

But I also just want to be transparent about the barriers I'm working around to share that experience. I'm completely self taught, both in art AND in running shops, building websites, running 8 accounts, etc. I take a lot of time to learn the logistics of these things, and try to make them make sense for my relationship with y'all (I do not want to paywall my art!! I don't want to!!!). This year my desktop broke down (the main one I use for all paintings and digital art). I've paused my Etsy shops and my Patreon to try to catch up with things. Trying to learn to paint in a completely different program. Then lost my job with no savings.

At the end of the day I don't want anything to come between me sharing my art with you. I wish I could doodle a thing, take a picture, and post it here. No third party site, no shop, no subscription. Just sharing my art with you. I promise I'm trying to figure out how to stay as close to that as possible, and I want to thank y'all for sticking with me as I untangle all of that.

So, what can you expect in the near future?

I'm working on a couple of painting commissions right now, which you should be able to see in the next couple of days! I want to catch up on kinktober and get those posted as well. There's a comic commission in progress which I'm very eager to work on, and which I think y'all will be excited for! To ease the weight of the Patreon I think I may do less zines/polls there and more wips and process videos! If possible, I want to do more full colored work too.
