Alright I feel like my problem with the Eustace Winner name (Sebastian my boy I'm so sorry) is that he's a really major character with depth and development.

From the start AA has had really stupid pun names and I loved them. April May, Redd White? I thought those were the best when I was playing ace attorney for the first time.

But characters who were actually important -- Phoenix, Maya, Edgeworth, von Karma, I could be wrong but their names aren't as stupid of puns as Redd White or my beloved Detective Detective Detective (love you gumshoe). I mean, Wright is literally just a play on right, but it's not a phrase, like I feel Eustace Winner (Useless Winner?) Is supposed to be. And Phoenix is a reference to his nature, how he "rises from the ashes", it's about his general overall character and doesn't feel like a mean joke. To me, naming Sebastian Eustace Winner is like if Edgeworth was named Meenin Evil so you know he's a bad guy when you meet him.

Poor Sebastian though, he has a LOT that happens (I never finished aai2 actually but I want to give him a hug and a mug of hot chocolate), hes a very important character, and it feels like they gave him a side character name? When he has a lot more importance to the story than just one case

Hmmmmm... I wouldnt call Off a horror game, and theres no jumpscares iirc, but it definitely takes a turn and deals with some dark and disturbing content. Id call it haunting rather than scary imo

It really hits you with the absurdism right off the bat(HAH. OFF THE BAT.) and definitely makes you go "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON" immediately and just doesnt let up on this weird abstract sort of world with such a weird set of rules, and youre just hit with constant "This might as well happen!"-isms. This isnt a complaint btw I adore the game for how weird and avant garde it gets, but its absurdity could be a turn off for others

There is dark content though, be warned. Dealing with death, religious themes, morality, and free will, etc etc. Many of the monsters in this game have body horror elements and are very much meant to be disturbing, so while its not scary scary, its very much meant to unnerve and unsettle

Less of a game thatll leave you awake at 3am scared of the monsters, but more... A game thatll leave a philosophical argument in your heart that you just cant help but think about even years down the line

Off was inspired by Earthbound, so if you can handle the most absurdist horror in that game, you would probably be fine here

Toby Fox was very inspired by this game! Dedan's appearance inspired Papyrus, Zacharie inspired Sans, and the signature battle track Pepper Steak was an inspiration for Napstablook's theme! So its really cool seeing things come full circle with him working on the remaster's OST!

Actually speaking of Undertale, I've got a good litmus test! If you can handle the True Lab segment of Undertale and like- pretty much the whole Genocide route of Undertale or the Snowgrave route of Deltarune... If you can handle those, plus a bit of disturbing character design, youre probably fine

But yeah, not scary, but definitely disturbing and haunting. So approach at your own risk! If you can handle that kind of stuff ough i 100% recommend. The more blindly you can go into it, the better.

All jokes aside, it's very telling how Roy was meme'd as "uwu racist" in FEH because of his skills, when Roy is arguing for coexistence between humans and dragons to Zeph, who wants to get rid of humans.

Roy wants to tell Zeph to still have faith in humanity - and not write it off - so humanity can still live and thrive and prosper alongside dragons!

Usually the other antagonists want to erase or look down on the non human race to prop up humanity - but in FE6, Zeph's reasoning is reversed!

And Roy's solution is the same as every other lord faced with this issue - Fodlan excluded because Fodlan treats this issue as horse piss, only relevant, fittingly, in Tru Piss - it's not X over Y or Y over X, it's X and Y living together.

It's kind of frightening how the newest FE games (bar Engage, so maybe it's just a Kusakihara thing?) completely elude the "live together solution" and end up pushing the "Humanity fuck yeah" answer...

You know you're cooked when one of your favourite games has your heart beating a million miles per hour when you're doing well. genuinely gives me an adrenaline rush. Pure elation when I win and absolute devastation when I don't. The highs are so high and the lows are so low and my brain is melting out of my skull

going off something i was talking about the other day. i think i know why i took sriv’s terrible quality so personally. like why i felt so insulted and angered by it. it felt like a slap in the face to anyone who cared to take the early games seriously. even if that wasn’t the intention, it doesn’t really matter if that’s how it ends up coming off regardless.

sr1 is a tragicomedy, it has elements of heightened reality but at its core is a very genuine and grounded piece of work. the tone was meant to be based off (specifically) hip-hop music videos, which in and of themselves are incredibly sincere pieces of art—the visualization of something you can’t see, or in some cases the visualization of literal lyrics. pieces of art that have a point to get across, oftentimes ending in either bittersweet or sobering ways (see: playa’s death at the end of sr1). sr1 hits the beats it wants to and tells the story it wants to tell, even in the face of being a GTA clone or whatever. it had real heart. it had a point to its narrative. and i’ve actually written a longer piece discussing the use of music in the games and its love/hate relationship w gangsta rap and hip-hop if you’re curious. whether you think it did this well or not is up to your own tastes, but the intention and end result is clear.

so all that to say when sriv came along and was just unfunny jokes and badly written irony, parody, and quips placed against painfully bathetic moments and quite literally blowing up its worldbuilding. it’s like. oh. that’s how you’re sending this off. if the intention was just to “make a fun game” then sure, fine, whatever, but there’s really no need to just be so…dismissive of what came before. you’re just lying when you say the narrative of the games was never meant to be taken seriously from the start. sorry for caring?? i forgot it’s not cool to be sincere anymore. forgot we’re all supposed to have this sense of ironic detachment to all art. ok. whatever.

Been doing a bunch of cleanup + maintenance on my laptop for the past few days and it makes me so happy lolol. I just like seeing her all cleaned up and getting to brush the dust outta her. Its fun and i'd bet it makes her feel a lot better than she was...

I also had a new SSD come in for her today that a friend helped me install so she also has more space! plus after moving her files over/cleaning up some apps i don't use it feels like she's running a bit quicker now (that could just be the new drive tho) <3<3<3
