The first time, he met you through Finn.

One lousy sunday evening Finn invited you over (he will often invite people over to the treehouse with no warning), the sky was halfway dark, and you looked like you walked all the way here.

You wore a large case on your back, hair tied up and a pencil slid behind your ear. Slung across your shoulder was a duffel bag which he would soon discover was full of paper (paper is weird to think about. It used to be trees, and he’s kinda related to trees now. It’s not cannibalism yet, but it’s close. Corpse desecration, maybe. He doesn’t feel that strongly about it anyways, nor does he feel very close to the trees, even if he technically is) with scrawled half-written lyrics all over them.

“Anyone home?” You half-yell from the bottom of the treehouse. Finn was out on the deck, doing who-the-hecking-gob-knows-what with Jake.

Fern sits perched from his up hiding spot (you could only see his glowing eyes, if you were looking up). He slithers down the ladder, remaining unseen (he doesn’t want to be. They’re a new person. New people are scary), tail flicking.

When you notice him, you quickly turn around. “Hey,” You squint. “Finn?”

There is a pause as he is torn between opting out of this conversation entirely and actually talking. “Fern, actually.”

“Oh. Cool name,”

“I picked it.”

“My parents gave me mine, but I’m considering changing it.”

“Why would you wanna change your name?”

You shrug, “I like to live my life on the edge. Me n’ your roommate got a jam sesh happening right now, you should join,”

There’s a beat of silence. “…I don’t think I’m invited. Grass boys can’t play the flute. Grass boys can’t even breathe.” Fern crosses his arms and looks down, frowning.

Worry flickers over your eyes, if you blink you’ll miss it. “Hmm…” You look to the side, in thought. “Well, now you are. ‘Grass boy’.” You smile ever so slightly when using the nickname he’s given for himself.

“Hey! Only I get to call myself that!”

“Sure, grass boy. C’mon, he’s probably out on the deck,” You walk to the ladder, gesturing for him to follow.

And, for no reason he can think of, he follows you. It’s like he wants to be around you, which is weird. He usually stops himself from being around people, they either treat him like he is Finn or like he’s the opposite. He’s not either, though.

He picks off a flower from his shoulder. Where did that come from?

The fourth time, you had a BFF sleepover. Fern had crawled onto the outside of the tree, to both not intrude and not do something wrong (it was the worst thing when Jake looked at him like that. He doesn’t want you to look at him like that too). The distant sounds of the Candy Kingdom and Jake lamenting at not winning card wars are all the sounds there are, up there.

Until the sounds of someone crawling onto the roof with him.

He sharply turns, ready to fight off whatever evil was trying to kidnap Finn or Jake (or both) this time. But no, it’s just you again.

“Was Jake too mean in card wars?”

“No, I just lost. They’re playing elimination, I don’t feel like watching the rest.”

You plop down right next to him.

“Y’ever been there?” You look up at the sky.

Fern squints, “That cloud?”

“No, pom-pom. The sky.” (This was a new nickname, made after the discovery of his dandelion tail).

“No. Wait! Yes. Magic man was doing some b-s with my bro, so I had to meet the immortal King of Mars.”

“Then what?”

“He died.”

You snort. It wasn’t an intentional joke, but he gets that weird buzzy feeling again.

“Whoa, poms. You’re like, covered in flowers.”

Finn groans. “Aghh! Again??” He sits up and rushes to brush the reds, yellows and oranges off himself.

He turns to you smiling at him in his flower frenzy, frown heavy upon his face.

“What?” He asks, accusatory, grass puffed up (the image reminds you of an angry cat).

“Nothing. Just you.”

Fern’s tail twitches, he de-puffs and he brings his knees to his chest.

It’s quiet again, you both sitting in comfortable silence.

You brush the stray hairs out of his face, before climbing back off the roof to probably lose card wars again. Such is the tragedy of sleepovers.

Fern would later wake up, and have an important realization.

Fern messes around with his…Finn’s old racecar track toy. He then drops it to the floor.

“I got a question for you, Finn.”

“What’s up, dude?”

“If I…hypothetically…liked…someone… how would I go about doin’ that?”

“You got a crush?”

“No! It’s hypothetical.”

Finn squints at him.

“Hypothetical.”

Finn continues to squint.

“Hy-po-the-ti--”

“No no, I got it.”

“Okay.”

“Well…I would say you tell them how you feel.”

Flowers cover his face again. “Noooooo!! What if they don’t like me back? What if they like someone else?”

Fern would appreciate his cheering on, but he’s not so sure Finn would say the same thing had he known it was you, or that he’s got this. He knows you like spending time with Finn more than him.

The ???th time (he’s lost count), you invited him along again, with Finn, (and basically everyone else in Ooo, to be honest. It happens when you’re friends with Finn) to a TV night for your birthday. It was an old one you scavenged up, “My Little Pony” or something (his favorite character is Rainbow Dash).

After many weeks of toeing around the idea of asking you out (that time you guys made pancakes, when you went for a dip in the river He’s going to do it tonight.

You sat next to him (close. to him), singing along to the many, many songs over the noise of the crowd behind the couch.

“No, I do not love the groom, in my heart there is no room—” You lean into him and he mumbles along with the lyrics, small smile on his face.

“Finally the moment has arrived! For me, to be one lucky bride…” Finn is also singing. He pauses, staring off into space, before snapping up. “Oh yeah!”

“Hm?” You look across Fern to him.

“C’mere dude, I gotta show you something!”

You get up from his side, going with Finn, and leaving him disappointed.

He follows the duo, though the mild party and to the hallway where Finn was lugging a huge box.

“I got you a present!”

“Oh, awesome,”

“You wanna open it?”

“Hold on,” You pull a pair of scissors out of your pocket. Why it was in there, no one will ever know.

Fern then gets hit by the realization that he forgot to get you a present. How the heck did he think he could just /show up/ to your party without one?

“Oh, Finn, this is so cool! Thanks so much,” You admire the new guitar you’d window shopped for a few weeks ago, which Finn had apparently taken notice of.

“It’s NP, DW about it.”

“Why are you talking in acronyms?”

“It’s a new thing I’m trying out.”

Fern shuffles over to you. “Hey, um, [ ]? Can I talk to you about something?”

“What’s up?”

He lowers his head more. “Can I talk to you about it in private?”

You look back at Finn, then nod and gesture for him to follow into a more secluded hallway, the muffled sounds of dance music vibrating through the walls.

You don’t say anything, and instead are listening intently (terrifying). Fern has to take a deep breath to steady himself.

“I….um….” He begins to fidget with his hands, “I think you’re really cool. And…you’re one of the only people who doesn’t look at me like a monster. And I like hanging out with you and I wanna hang out more and…”

You nod, urging him to continue.

“…andddddd I—”

“AAAAAAAH!” A scream from the party interrupts him.

“GIANT WORM!”

You both immediately run out, to see a monster breaking through one of the walls of your house, jerking around violently as Finn already had his sword around its neck (?).

Fern rushes in, grass sword already whipped out.

He joins Finn on its head (? Again. It’s a worm) stabbing it, rapidly. Its pink blood drips down the side of its face, onto your floor. It begins jerking and twitching even more violently now, trying to shake Fern off.

Finn struggles, and tries to get a stable footing, before the force it’s using to try and get both him and Fern off plunges Finn’s sword right through its neck.

Its head falls right to the floor, Fern still on it, who is still stabbing.

Finn continues to fight the rest of the worm’s body, which has since retreated outside and is currently trying to spit acid at him, leaving barren spots in the grass with only mildly dissolved dirt.

You crouch in front of Fern, putting your hand on his shoulder.

“I think it’s had enough, grass boy,”

He looks up at you, then back down at the corpse-head, and re-sheathes the grass sword.

“What were you saying?”

Feen blinks. What was he saying?

You stare at him, intently.

Oh yeah, absolute fear. “I…..”

“……reallyreallylikeyou. Alotalot.” He snaps his eyes shut when he says it, only opening one a moment later to gauge your reaction.

You knew this already, but you wanted to wait until he was sure of his feelings.“Awww, I like you too! you little pom-pom.” You squish his (flower covered) face.

- hawks’ wings reflexively like. splay out when he snzs but hes sooo embarrassed by that so to counter it he closes his wings around himself (when he actually feels it coming. surprise snz is a whole other story) which is!! so cute!!

- mentioned in a post before butttt when hes at home hawks paces around the room fanning his face just. desperately when he needs to snz (like why does it always take so long to come out) he just cant keep still

- hawks’ colds are always sooooohohoooo sneezy like he just cant catch a break from it. he’ll snz like five times back to back without a pause and as soon as he thinks hes done he’s gearing up AGAIN

👋 hi, i'm back again already :)

i'm so glad i'm not alone in being completely feral for those set pictures. like it's insane what just seeing them has done to my brain chemistry. i saw them like an hour or so before i had therapy on wednesday and i felt like i was going insane for the rest of the day. the frank brainrot is real and i will be binge-reading ur fics again (bc i love ur portrayal of frank and i need that man in my life) and just UGH, i can't even explain how this man makes me feel without sounding fucking nuts.

and okay after finishing season two, i just, i have no words. i know that the fandom doesn't always love amy but genuinely, she has such a special place in my heart. and the lengths that frank went to protect her actually just made me want to sob. he absolutely melts my heart and i remember when i watched the start of season 2 all the way back in like september last year, i literally sobbed at the end of the first episode after he had that conversation about maria with the woman he met at the bar. like i am such a simp for this man, it's insane how emotional i get over it sometimes.

also i know you've watched criminal minds (the two fics u wrote were absolutely delicious btw) so i feel like you will understand this but pilgrim's actor being the same as will's just made it slightly hard for me to take him seriously. like the actor did a phenomenal job but i just couldn't help but see him as will. it was so jarring and also just a little bit funny. either way, i didn't hate the storyline as much as i thought but the connection between him and the schultz family did seem a little jarring? or like out of the blue? but i'm not sure if that's because of the writing or because of how long it took me to actually finish the show. but i think it was such an interesting way to connect the two plots even if it confused me?

then okay, like billy this season, he was a complete fucking psycho and usually ben barnes can make psychos be so hot but after he and dumont tried to like break frank by making him think he killed innocents, bro i was not on this man's side anymore. like i honestly was so mad at him. i haven't like been that mad at a character in so long, i was concerned for myself. honestly, i could have strangled billy in that moment. also dumont was just such a kind of dull character? i think the scene in like episode 12 when dumont and madani are having that conversation about like the trauma she (and billy and frank) went through was so good but that was like the most interesting i found her. i'd love to know your thoughts on her!

and like madani? i can't talk about madani without going too feral. like her and frank are my definition of bisexual panic. any time they are on the screen together, i go insane. the thought of the two of them actually is just- it's too much. i feel like madani doesn't get a lot of love in the fandom which always makes me sad because she is (to me) a literal goddess. but anyway.

I loved season 2, personally. it felt a little rushed, but I think that has to due with the fact that they planned more storylines and got cancelled because of the disney plus thing. I liked that we got to see a more fatherly side of frank with amy because it added so many more layers to his personality. we got to see it with the micro's kids, but we got to see it so much more with amy and I loved that

(Y/N) had always been bad about apologizing. To them, any form of apology was admitting defeat or weakness, and no one defeats (Y/N). When they say or do something someone doesn’t like, they usually just laugh it off and continue with what they’re saying, but becomes annoyed when the person doesn’t reciprocate after the fact. They also did this with their own feelings: ignoring them or pushing them to the back of their mind and laughing as a result.

When (Y/N) hung out with Leo, they didn’t have to worry about hurting his feelings because he would always have something snarkier or ruder to say, sometimes sending a pang of irritation through their body. They didn’t think anybody could legitimately offend them, much less a walking talking turtle. But here they were sitting in (Y/N)’s bedroom floor, hysterically laughing at each other’s insults.

“No, because, you swing your sword like you’re carrying a ton of bricks. You should retire it if it’s too much to handle.” (Y/N) quipped.

“Maybe you should retire considering your massive Kroger coupon collection.” Leo referred to the time he found a binder full of expired coupons underneath their couch.

(Y/N) snorted, attempting to stifle their laughter. “Hey, that’s called being resourceful. You should try it considering how broke you are.”

“I’m a ninja.” He shrugged with a smirk on his face. “What do I need money for? At least I’m not spending daddy’s money like you.”

(Y/N) chuckled, the familiar pang hitting them in the chest. Time to up the ante. “At least I have a dad that cares about me enough to get his ass up off the couch to make me a few bucks.”

Leo’s cocky smirk faltered into a concerned half smile. “Hah… yeah…”

“And I don’t have a bunch of butt-ugly brothers running around. Especially the red one.” They continued, grinning all the while. “I mean, come on! I dunno about you but I’d totally end my shit if they were my brothers.”

The turtle furrowed his would-be eyebrows as (Y/N) went on, wondering what they’d meant by that. “What?”

“Y’know, like I’d”—they took their thumb and ran it across their neck one side to the other—“my shit. Or the fact that you only surface at night like a vampire or something. And when someone sees you, they’re like, ‘oh my god, look how ugly it is! Run, Susan! Go on without me!’” (Y/N) rolled onto their back, the only one in the room laughing.

Leo looked down at them before pretending to check his phone and see a message from Raph. “Hey. Bros need me. I gotta head home.” He stood up and headed towards the door.

“Aww, I didn’t hurt your feelings, did I?” (Y/N) coos sarcastically before resuming their laughter.

“‘Course not.” Leo spun around to face them. “Why would calling my dad a shitty parent and my brothers ugly hurt my feelings?”

They rolled their eyes and scoffed. “Calm down, they’re just jokes. You made fun of my dad, too.”

Leo didn’t feel like explaining himself. (Y/N) had pissed him off. Again. They have done this in the past, but he just went with it because he always had a comeback, but his family was off limits and he thought they would’ve respected that. He had only brought up their dad to insult their lack of personal funds, not to say he was a bad father or anything.

He didn’t know what their deal was, so the turtle quickly left the apartment, (Y/N) still laughing.

Over the next few days, Leo texted (Y/N) less and less. He had tried to remain cordial with them, but he couldn’t seem to shake their past comment about his family as well as the fact that they didn’t even feel bad about it.

(Y/N) tried to text Leo multiple times to hang out, but he would either say he was busy or just leave them on “read” hours after they initially sent the message. After a while, (Y/N) started to become lonely in their mom’s huge apartment. After the divorce, she was usually out working or with her friends while (Y/N)‘s father would stop by once or twice a week to asking how their day was, give them money, then leave.

They didn’t want to admit it, but they missed Leo. (Y/N) pretended that they weren’t sure why he had stopped talking to him, but they knew it was because they had once again “gone too far”. It was annoying that Leo took it the way he did when all they were doing was joking. They didn’t actually think Leo had a shit dad or shit brothers. Leo had to have known that since (Y/N) had hung out with them when he wasn’t around, so why was he so pissed? He was the only person that understood their snark, and sometimes that pang of insecurity would make their heart race and their cheeks flush.

He would tease them about their red face, saying something along the lines of “you’re the only person I know that gets flustered after being insulted”. But it wasn’t just the insults that would embarrass them. It was the cleverness of them and the smirk that was plastered on Leo’s face during his delivery.

They could sit here and feel bad for themselves all night, but they decided to go downtown and get him a “Peace” talisman he could attach to the handle of his sword. After they’d purchased it and returned back home, they texted Leo to come over. I have a surprise for you!, they said, hoping for that to get his attention. Hours passed and it didn’t seem like he was going to text back until (Y/N)‘s phone went off. Ok, see u in 5, he’d replied.

The mutant turtle soon arrived and entered through (Y/N)’s bedroom window. He didn’t even try to quip or tell a lame joke. His face just held an unamused expression. “Can we hurry with this? I got things to do.”

“So impatient, yeesh,” (Y/N) chuckles. Leo didn’t laugh like he usually did. They awkwardly chuckle and grabs the box containing the talisman off their bed and offers it to him. “I got you a present!”

Leo takes the box and lifts the top. He grabs the talisman, a question on his face.

“Guess what it says!” (Y/N) said quickly.

An awkward silence filled the room as the turtle stares at them blankly.

“Uh… it means peace.” They rocked on their heels back and forth. “Like, a truce? Between us?”

Leo sucked his teeth and sighed before placing the talisman back in the box. “Thanks but no thanks. I gotta go.”

The turtle turned to go back out the window, but (Y/N) grasped onto his shoulder to stop him. “Wait, wait, uhm…” they looked around their room and their eyes landed on their PS4. “W-we could finish Detroit: Become Human! Even though you totally got Markus shot by the police, we could finish out Kara and Connor.”

Leo rolled his eyes at their casual dig and gently pushed their hand off his shoulder. “I already told you I was busy. We can do it next time.”

“But when is next time gonna be?” (Y/N) asked a little too speedily. “Er—I mean—you like, don’t even text me anymore so like, how’re we gonna finish it? Since it’s like, our game and all.”

He shrugged before leaping out the window and into the night.

God, why does he have to be so difficult?, (Y/N) thought, it’s not like I meant all that stuff…

They went over to the window to close it, but was suddenly overcome with guilt. Even though they didn’t mean it, their joke affected Leo in a way they didn’t intend. If they had known that joke would’ve ruined their relationship, they wouldn’t have said it. There was one thing they hadn’t tried; something they hated more than anything else. But if it would get Leo to wipe their slate clean, they didn’t feel like they had much of a choice.

“I can’t believe I’m doing this.” (Y/N) mumbled before sticking their head out the window and calling out to the turtle. “Leo!”

To their luck, he had stayed on the fire escape after getting distracted by a game on his phone. He jumped when they yelled, almost dropping his phone. He leaned over the railing and stared down at them.

“What?”

(Y/N) gulped nervously. “I-I… I don’t wanna fight with you anymore. I didn’t mean anything I said that time and you know that. It didn’t mean anything.”

A half smile slowly returned onto his face as he dropped down onto the railing next to them. “Do I?”

“Ugh…” (Y/N) groaned. “Yes! You do! I literally have hung out with them before with and without you. And I’ve told you Splinter was chill, too.”

After a few seconds of silence, Leo held his hands out protruded his neck. “So, is that it?”

“Uh… no,” (Y/N) looked off to the side. “Like, everything has been so boring with you, like, not really talking to me and it kinda sucks ‘cuz like… you’re the only person I really talk to like that. And you’re like, funny or whatever. Prolly the easiest person I’ve talked to, but that’s besides the point.”

“What’s the point then?” Leo raised an eyebrow.

(Y/N) could feel their cheeks warming despite the cool night breeze. “I-I… I’m not sorry for joking, but I’m sorry for making fun of your family. And making you feel bad. It’s just like, you’re really cool and maybe I wanna hang out with you more ‘cuz—well—for reasons I won’t disclose. I’m sorry, okay? Now will you forgive me?” They’d never stuttered worse and honestly they’d wished for a moment that this whole thing was a dream.

Leo chuckled a bit before seizing (Y/N)’s hand. He lifted it to his face and pressed a kiss against the back of their hand. “Just the two words I was looking for.”

(Y/N) blushed madly as he then winked at them. “Well—good. Can you come inside now so we can finish the game? I know you aren’t actually busy.”

Instead he was raised by a father and son in Springvale. But unfortunately after getting in between a father/son quarrel and trying to prevent it from escalating, he obtained a vision ‼️ and ofc nothing goes right and he couldn’t actually gain control over it, so he did de-escalate it. his adoptive father and newfound best friend died 🤷

so he ran away, changed his appearance and his name, and became sort of a scholar?? not really. he just wants to find some kind of answer as to why he feels out of place. he’s one of those characters that’s on the road with traveler a lot, but doesnt actually get involved unless it’s useful for him.
